Separate movie and non-movie figures?
Shoudl we separate the Movie and non-Movie figures apart so as to not confuse which characters are and aren't Movie ones? Like, perhaps put all those under the "Hunt for the Decepticons" subline in one list, and those that aren't in a second list. Or, if that's too much trouble, then perhaps we could somehow label those that are Movie/HftD figures to identify them? --Sabrblade 19:15, 7 March 2010 (EST)
: At the moment, I think all of them are under the HftD subline so far, but that'll likely change when that promotion is over. And, man, IF we could separate these guys by continuity, that'd actually be really great, and I wouldn't be pulling my friggin' hair out. But we really don't know, besides the Obviously Movie Guys Because They're In The Movie. --ItsWalky 19:17, 7 March 2010 (EST)
:OK, thinking about it some more, I'd say "Tracker Hound" is obviously "Hound" with a random adjective added. And since Hasbro only adds random adjectives to the names of established characters, this Hound must be an established character. Which established character? There is only one real choice in this case, the Hound he is redecoed from (which is usually when Hasbro adds a random adjective) so I'm gonna say he is Hound (G1). In package images of Hasbro's Masterpiece Grimlock show it to in packaging under the simple "Transformers" name (like all the other products in this toyline). But, the deep red color scheme of the packaging matches that of the Generations line instead of the yellow in this line. To further complicate things, the cross-sell advertises the Leader Class Optimus Prime figure (the one with hooks and the Buster OP mouthplate-less head), which is in this toyline. So, which toyline would this figure belong in? The brand and cross-sell suggest this toyline, but the color scheme and history with Starscream and Skywarp suggest the Generations line. --Sabrblade 14:18, 31 May 2010 (EDT)
: He implied that the TF2010 franchise is generic Transformer stuff that is packaged and sold to retailers as being live-action movie stuff. Generations is a Classics-sorta line that helps grant Transformers additional shelf space by being a separate line. That's the difference between the two lines, since it was kinda fuzzy before. I don't really think it changes much. We're certainly not gonna move anybody in the TF2010 line to the "(Movie)" disambiguation, because "(TF 2010)" is still the franchise of origin. --ItsWalky 15:12, 29 June 2010 (EDT)
:I asked him why there was both a Generations package style and a 2010 goldbox style if they were both supposed to have the same internal conceit: representing characters from all throughout the history of the franchise, not bound by any singular storyline. He said it was to make retailers happy, because they were more interested in giving shelfspace to a toy from the blockbuster movies than one from, quote, "a comic book from 20 years ago". He said that as far as he was concerned, some of the offscreen movie / goldbox toys were really "supposed to be" Generations, particularly Bludgeon, but, again, retailer considerations are a big deal. --Thylacine 2000 15:15, 29 June 2010 (EDT)
::Cool, thank you. I'm actually in favor of pushing the 2010 stuff as far into the Movieverse as we can, but I don't know if the pebbles we've collected so far have added up to the necessary avalanche yet. We've got the aesthetics, the reference to RoTF Devastator in PCC, and now the behind-the-scenes marketing... am I missing anything? - Jackpot 15:21, 29 June 2010 (EDT)
:::So basically, any 2010 characters are from the Movie-verse unless specifically stated otherwise? --Khajidha 16:39, 29 June 2010 (EDT)
::::Depends. Is "Stated otherwise" via author intent or by what's presented in fiction or the bios? For example, Bludgeon was stated to be a Universe toy by intent, but he shows up in Cyber Missions to fight Movie Ironhide, placing him squarely in the live-action universe. The same for Sea Spray, but his nemesis according to his packaging is another movie-verse dude. --ItsWalky 16:47, 29 June 2010 (EDT)
:::::I was going by fiction. Also, did anyone think to ask about how PCC fits into all this? Is it a completely separate franchise (like when Animated and Movie were being sold at the same time), a separate toy line in the same continuity as 2010 (like Activators or Fast Action Battlers) or a subline within the 2010 line with a unified packaging call out (like Powerlinx Battles during Energon)? --Khajidha 17:01, 29 June 2010 (EDT)
::::::I don't know about BotCon, but within the PCC fiction, Devastator is used as an example of the gestalt process, which eliminates the individuality of the components and produces a monster. :Where do the G1 Legends you saw at BotCon fit? They're obviously G1 characters, but Generations doesn't have a Legends assortment.
That's a pretty clear reference to the RoTF Dev, but beyond that there's no other evidence that I know of. - Jackpot 17:08, 29 June 2010 (EDT)

:::::Hm. I wonder how many 2010 characters we could tie to the movieverse, especially given the little chains of association formed by the this-guy-totally-hates-that-guy relationships in their bios. And then I wonder how many of these characters can be established as NOT-movieverse. The only one I can think of is Masterpiece Grimlock, by dint of being seriously so goddamn G1 it hurts. - Jackpot 17:08, 29 June 2010 (EDT)

:Where do the G1 Legends you saw at BotCon fit? They're obviously G1 characters, but Generations doesn't have a Legends assortment. Do we wait for bios and presume (in the meantime) that Legends Sandstorm, Tracker Hound, Scout Windcharger and Voyager Grapple are "TF2010" characters instead of G1? --FFN 23:04, 29 June 2010 (EDT)
::The poor Legends guys won't get bios and probably won't appear in fiction. But if you take the "Legends" moniker seriously, they are probably intended to be legendary characters, not nobodies. Plus "Tracker" modifies "Hound". So "Tracker Hound" is a modification of "Hound". "Tracker Hound" is "Hound" modified. G1!
Item42 13:38, 30 July 2010 (EDT)
:A lot of them use regular ones, but I don't know about all of them. Even Night Ops Ratchet has a regular symbol. On the character pages some of the new characters use regular symbols for icons and some use movie symbols. What should be used on character pages? Should the icon reflect what is on the toy? Or should we use a movie-style symbol for live-action characters regardless of the toy? Or maybe it was a mistake to use movie-specific faction symbols. - Starfield 22:09, 13 August 2010 (EDT)
As far as I understand, some of the un-subtitled 2010 boxes are gold, some are red, and all of the Generations ones are red. Some people seem to want to call all of the red-boxed toys "Generations", but is there any reason to? For instance, these guys are really obviously movieverse. - Jackpot 18:33, 29 June 2010 (EDT)
