Basically, Rad has a natural, insatiable curiosity about all things. Unfortunately, this curiosity goes unchecked when he's hanging out with his best friend [[Carlos Lopez|Carlos]], so it takes the watchful eye of the intelligent-but-much-more-reserved [[Alexis]] to keep them both out of trouble. His parents hope that some day Rad can channel this curiosity more productively.

One day, Rad and [[Carlos_Lopez|Carlos]] went exploring into the caverns deep beneath the local [[Cosmoscope_Research_Center|observatory]]. Inside, they found the curious remains of a clearly artificial construction, seemingly far in advance of human technology. Against the advice of Carlos, Rad was drawn towards a [[Mini-Con_storage_panel|glowing green pentagonal artifact]] half buried in the rubble. Touching it, the entire structure began to shake, suddenly springing to life as thousands of computers lit up the walls.

At home, [[Alexis]] felt the tremors and used her computer to pinpoint the epicenter of the apparent earthquake as the mountain caverns that Rad and Carlos were exploring. Similarly, the scientists and researchers at the observatory were baffled by the sudden movement of the Earth. As Rad and Carlos made their escape with the artifact, a bright light engulfed the chamber they were in, simultaneously shutting down all electronic equipment in Licoln, as well as emitting three distinctly coloured distress signals beams into the sky.

One beam, green, reached an [[Exodus|ancient starship wreck]] on the dark side of the moon, causing it to fire hundreds of smaller beams of green light at the [[Earth]]. The two remaining signal beams, coloured red and purple, continued deep into space until it reached [[Cybertron_(planet)|a cold, distant metal world]].

Little did Rad know that he had unwittingly set in motion the next destructive phase in the great Transformers war, an endless battle of rage and hatred between the heroic [[Autobots]] and the evil [[Decepticons]]. Thanks a lot, kid.

Much later, Rad is made a prisoner of the Mini-Con [[Destruction Team]], held captive on their moonbase strapped to a bomb. He's saved in time of course, then told by Prime in the final issues to again take a flying leap as the Autobots departed to confront [[Unicron]].

Rad whines a lot about Alexis being worldy and active as a peace activist, she tried to tenderly say goodbye, but he brushes her off and upsets her. An attack from Battle Ravage forces causes a series of explosions that seem to eliminate Alexis, dismaying Rad. Alexis turns out to be alive, and he embraces her before urging her to get into his jeep to escape the destruction.

'''Starscream''' is disillusioned by his leader [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]]. It took a while for Starscream to come to grips with Megatron's faults, but there's no turning back. Megatron doesn't respect him, doesn't appreciate him, and would casually toss Starscream's life away if it got him something he wanted. If following Megatron is the school of hard knocks, then Starscream is the valedictorian -- but not without a few scars. Starscream may have once been compassionate, he may once have known what true friendship is, but all that has been replaced, scab for scab, with the lessons of Megatron's abuse.

Unwittingly, Megatron may have created a monster even he cannot ultimately control.

Starscream's nominal [[Mini-Con]] partner is [[Swindle (Armada)|Swindle]], thought he has been seen to work with [[Zapmaster]].

Accompanying Megatron's forces to [[Earth]], Starscream was deliberately made to be the last of the Decepticons to acquire a personal partner Mini-Con. Infuriated by this mistreatment, Starscream's resent for and hatred of Megatron made him a chink in the armor of the Decepticons that could be easily exploited by the manipulative [[Sideways]]. {{Storylink|Rebellion}}

Initially, Sideways coerced Starscream into a duel with Megatron, which he promptly lost. A short time later, [[Thrust (Armada)|Thrust]], acting under the instructions Sideways, further exploited Starscream by making him the patsy in his latest plan. Starscream was given the [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber]] and allowed to run riot to draw the [[Autobot]]s out of their base, but was then abandoned on the battlefield so that the other Decepticons could invade the base and steal the [[Requiem Blaster]]. {{Storylink|Sacrifice}}

Surviving to return to the Decepticon base, Starscream went on a rampage with the sword and disowned the Decepticons, siding up with the wary Autobots, not out of any desire to do good, but simply out of sheer hatred for Megatron. After a clash with [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]] and a trip to [[Mars]] with [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]], Starscream befriended the Autobots' [[human]] allies, particularly [[Alexis]], and then gave the Autobots access to the Decepticon base, resulting in a raid that freed all the captive Mini-Cons. Starscream's defection was not a smooth process, however; he constantly clashed with his new teammates over morals and battle strategies, but nonetheless proved a capable, and on at least some level, willing Autobot. {{Storylink|Regeneration}} {{Storylink|Rescue}} {{Storylink|Mars}}

Soon thereafter, Sideways and Thrust approached Starscream, planting seeds of doubt in his mind. This eventually caused him to steal the [[Skyboom (Armada)|Skyboom shield]] from the Autobots and return to the Decepticon fold, giving the Decepticons possession of all three Mini-Con weapons. {{Storylink|Crack}}

As Megatron readied his new super weapon to attack Earth, Starscream began to suffer a serious moral crisis. He had returned to the decepticons but he still viewed those he'd left behind on Earth as his friends, and was torn between following orders, and a desire not to harm them. At times he found compromises, for instance, as Optimus led an attack to stop Megatron using the three minicon weapons, Starscream, currently battling Jetfire, spotted one of the decepticons sneaking up on Prime. Starscream then atacked Jetfire, allowing himself to be thrown away, and collided with the decepticon who would have attacked Prime.

Subsequently, Starscream was among the Transformers injured battling [[Nemesis Prime (Armada)|Nemesis Prime]], and who then received "[[Powerlinx]]" power boosts from their Mini-Cons. Starscream gained a new, blue coloration that he commented made him look like his contemporary, [[Thundercracker (Armada)|Thundercracker]], with disgust just ''dripping'' from his tone. Returning to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Starscream pursued Thrust into the depths of the planet when the turncoat tactician revealed his treachery by stealing the Requiem Blaster and Skyboom shield. Starscream took a fatal shot from the Requiem Blaster as he battled Thrust in the subterranean tunnels, but the Mini-Con [[High Wire]] used his powers to restructure the timeline, saving Starscream (and throwing the human kids back in time, and.. well it's confusing).

Thrust escaped and delivered the weapons to Sideways and his master, [[Unicron]], presently disguised as Cybertron's moon. Following Thrust through a warp gate and briefly reuniting with Alexis, Starscream entered the belly of the beast along with Hot Shot and [[Wheeljack (Armada)|Wheeljack]], but the unlikely trio were stymied by Unicron's [[Bug Drone|internal defenses]] and failed to stop Sideways from using the weapons to begin Unicron's reactivation.

Megatron - now Galvatron - was unwilling to acknowledge Unicron's threat, dismissing it as an Autobot trick, but Starscream knew the threat was real, and that only united under a true leader like [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] - whose strength of character and nobility had touched Starscream during his time with the Autobots - could the Transformers hope to stop him. To show Galvatron the error of his ways, he challenged him to a duel in which he allowed Galvatron to run him through with the Star Saber. Galavatron realized what happened and demanded to know what possessed Starscream to do such a thing.

Starscream told him that he tried to gain Galvatron's respect, but nothing was ever good enough, no matter how many battles he fought, his leader always found fault. Optimus Prime treated his men with respect, and was thus a leader of integrity, unlike Galvatron. But that didn't matter anymore, and after tearing the Star Saber out with his bare hands, Starscream turned his full firepower onto Unicron. The Chaos Bringer promptly obliterated him, to the shock of both Galvatron and Optimus Prime. When the dust settled, Galvatron stood reflecting upon Starscream's last words, and as a gesture, handed his enemy the Star Saber.

Unfortunately, Sideways ran off with it two seconds later. But it's the thought that counts. {{Storylink|Cramp}}

Ten years after Starscream's death, when Megatron seized control of Unicron's body by ousting its former occupant, the alien being [[Alpha Quintesson]], the evicted extra-terrestrial needed an assassin to eliminate Megatron so that he could return to his original task of recreating the worlds destroyed by Unicron. Using what little [[energon]] he had left, Alpha Q recreated another victim of Unicron - Starscream. However, Alpha Q ran out of energon before the process could be completed, leaving Starscream incomplete - his memory blank, and his body unstable, constantly shifting from a physical to an ethereal form, able to teleport by "ghosting" from location to location. {{Storylink|Megatron Raid}}

Alpha Q unleashed Starscream upon [[Ocean City]], where he battled Optimus Prime and then tracked Megatron back to Unicron's body. Even his awesome new abilities proved no match for the Decepticon leader, who used Unicron's power to brainwash Starscream, turning him into his right-hand man and most loyal subordinate. Rather ironically, Megatron now treated Starscream with far more respect than previously, even entrusting him with some of the most difficult missions.

Later, when Megatron became Galvatron again through immersion in a subterranean reservoir of [[super energon]] on Cybertron, Starscream was allowed to do the same as a reward for his loyalty; the influx of power stabilized his physical form, while allowing him to retain his teleporting powers. When Galvatron was subsequently possessed by Unicron, [[Primus]] used the super energon to create a sun, and Galvatron plunged himself into it in order to contain Unicron's spark within it. A decade after the [[Powerlinx Battles]] (as they were called), when [[Primus]]'s plan to contain Unicron's spark at the core of the energon sun failed, the sun collapsed, becoming a deadly [[Unicron Singularity|black hole]] that threatened Cybertron. Freed from his imprisonment in the sun by Megatron, Starscream's mind was his own again, and his body was refurbished into yet another new form.

Megatron began his campaign to acquire the legendary [[Cyber Planet Key]]s by stealing the map that showed their locations from the ancient Transformer, [[Vector Prime]] while Starscream created a diversion that kept the other Autobots busy. During the fight, Starscream sent [[Landmine (Energon)|Landmine]] tumbling into the black hole, but Vector Prime saved him at the last moment, opening a dimensional gate that teleported him to Earth. {{Storylink|Fallen (Cybertron episode)|Fallen}}

The Autobots and Decepticons followed, and when it was deduced that the Cyber Planet Keys' focusing device, the [[Omega Lock]], was hidden somewhere on the planet, Megatron charged Starscream with locating it while he focused on acquiring the Cyber Planet Key of [[Velocitron]], the Speed Planet.

Little did Megatron suspect, however, that Starscream had evolved a new ambition - now, he sought to oust Megatron and become the leader of the Decepticons, then the universe. Unlike [[Starscream (G1)|those with similar goals]], however, Starscream was smart enough to keep his intentions to himself, quietly working to achieve his goals through subtle means. While on a brief mission to attack [[Red Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]] on Velocitron, Starscream was able to secretly switch Megatron's map with a copy that would play an important role later, and in an attempt to acquire more troops loyal to him, recruited the disillusioned Autobot [[Mudflap]] into his service on Earth. He later crossed paths once again with the mysterious [[Sideways]], who saw in him the best chance to achieve his own goals.

With the Autobots having successfully acquired the Omega Lock and the Cyber Planet Keys from Velocitron and the [[Jungle Planet]], Starscream realized it was time to step up his agenda. His duplicate planet map led Megatron and the other Decepticons to a dead sector of space and sealed them within a metal sphere, freeing Starscream to search for the third Cyber Planet Key, from Earth itself. Encountering the Autobot monster-hunter, [[Crosswise (Cybertron)|Crosswise]] - one of the ancient Transformers whose ancestors had come to Earth with the Cyber Planet Key eons ago, who had recently been reactivated - Starscream discovered a vast underground holding cell in which Crosswise had imprisoned the ancient Decepticons of his time. {{Storylink|Trap}} {{Storylink|Invasion}}

Liberating them, Starscream took command of their forces and began a planet-wide search for the Cyber Planet Key, fighting back the Autobot and human military resistance. The Autobots had Crosswise's ally [[Evac (Cybertron)|Evac]] recover the key from its hiding place in preparation for a retreat to Velocitron, but Starscream fought his way through the entire Autobot army and confronted Optimus Prime himself, successfully purloining the lock and all three keys by endangering the Autobots' human allies and drawing Prime out of the fight. {{Storylink|Retreat}}

Retreating to a small volcanic island in the South Pacific, Starscream attempted to harness the power of the Cyber Planet Keys. Megatron, meanwhile, had been freed by [[Scourge (Cybertron)|Scourge]], and immediately sought retribution, only to wind up clashing with the Autobots first. The extra time this afforded, along with the distraction of having Starscream's new troops (including [[Thunderblast (Decepticon)|Thunderblast]] and [[Lugnutz]]) defending him from both sides, allowed Starscream to tap the power of the keys and harness a fragment of the spark of Primus, growing to a gigantic height and besting Megatron in combat. With an extra power boost courtesy of his combination with [[Wing Saber]], Optimus Prime was able to defeat Starscream, but Sideways teleported his body away to the ancient starship [[Atlantis]] to recuperate. {{Storylink|Starscream (Cybertron episode)|Starscream}}

When the Cyber Planet Keys were used by the Autobots to awaken Primus and transform Cybertron into his body, Starscream successfully attempted to drain more of his power and grew to planetary size. He was defeated in one-on-one combat with Primus himself, battered into submission by Cybertron's moons, and drained of his excess power. The discovery of the fourth Cyber Planet Key on [[Gigantion]], the Giant Planet, set Starscream racing to acquire the key first, but Landmine reached it ahead of him and was able to use its power to pay him back for past indignities by growing to his size and pummeling him.

With all four Cyber Planet Keys finally acquired, Starscream challenged Megatron - now Galvatron once more - to a final battle for possession of them. So incredible were the energies released during the clash that space and time itself was rended by the final explosion, and Starscream was hurtled into another dimension along with the interfering Sideways and [[Soundwave (Cybertron)|Soundwave]]. He would appear for one final time before a defeated Galvatron, his spirit reaching out across the dimensions to encourage him to fight on - leading Galvatron to his final demise at the hands of Optimus Prime on Cybertron's [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]. {{Storylink|Unfinished}}

As the Autobots made preparations to begin their new galaxy-spanning [[space bridge]] initiative, [[Wing Saber]] - having departed from the rest of the Autobots to continue with his "loner" lifestyle - radioed Optimus to report that he had found a lead on Starscream's trail and was pursuing it. Starscream was stationed in Antarctica, overseeing [[Decepticlone]] operations in recovering the [[Mini-Con storage panel]]s found in the area, using a human research center they overran as his base of operations. When the Autobots ventured too close, Starscream attacked (blowing up the hangar he was holed up in first), but was shot out of the sky and left for dead.

Having survived his initial defeat, Starscream followed the Autobots to Alaska. There he collided his starship into a mountain in an attempt to crush them, but the Autobots escaped unscathed. This also gave them the chance to infiltrate the downed ship and free the captive Mini-Con [[Aftershock]] from the control room. Starscream used his null laser cannons at full power in an attempt to finish off his foes, but only succeeded in cutting the rock face below the ship, which collapsed and sent the precariously-blanaced ship plunging into the valley below. The impact of the crash buried the bow deep into the earth, forcing the Autobots to climb their way up and out to the surface.

When the Autobots pulled free from the buried ship and got back to ground-level, Starscream attacked again. But this battle too ultimately ended in defeat, leading Optimus Prime to interrogate him as to the whereabouts of Megatron. When Starscream refused and attempted to fire his functional null ray at point-blank range, Optimus knocked him unconscious with a well-aimed punch. He then ordered Red Alert to hack the treacherous Decepticon's warp transponder, which led them to Megatron's [[Pacific Island]] base.

When Megatron stole the Golden Disk and fled to prehistoric [[Earth]], Dinobot was among his followers. But immediately after crash-landing, Dinobot turned on his leader, claiming that he had led them to the wrong planet. {{storylink|Beast Wars, Part 1}} Unfazed by the tirade, Megatron had Scorponok blast him, and he left Dinobot for dead.

Focused solely on Megatron's destruction, Dinobot sought out the Maximals and attempted to take command of that group. He forced [[Optimus Primal]] into a fight to the death, which was interrupted by a Predacon attack. After Dinobot helped the Maximals, Optimus accepted him into the fold - not as a leader, of course, but still as a valued team member. This didn't sit well with the other Maximals, particularly [[Rattrap (BW)|Rattrap]], but over time the two became a strange sort of friends. {{storylink|Beast Wars, Part 2}}

Dinobot provided not only brute force, but an understanding of the enemy: When [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]] infiltrated the Maximal base, Dinobot feigned a desire to team up with him and overthrow Megatron. Lulling him into a false security, Dinobot eventually took care of him with the trash disposal unit - all without firing a shot, and the other Maxies never even knew. {{storylink|Equal Measures}}

But through it all, Dinobot had only one true loyalty: to his personal sense of honor. This he described as Predacon in nature, although he often appeared far nobler than his former comrades. Still, he was really no Maximal either; his ethics stemmed from his hard, warrior outlook. Always the first to call for action, he was often the recipient of Primal's lectures. For instance, when the Maximals unexpectedly created a transporter to the [[Darksyde|Predacon base]], Dinobot demanded they send a bomb to destroy them all. Primal, however, insisted on a thirty-second timer to allow them time for evacuation, along the theory that if they lose their base, they're helpless anyway - no need to kill them outright.

As time went on, Dinobot inevitably became attached to the Maximals (This was especially obvious in his love hate relationship with Rattrap, and the respet shared between Optimus and himself). When a Cybertronian probe was detected, he helped his teammates attempt to contact it, despite the fact he dreaded a return home. After all, he was a criminal even in Predacon terms, and he had no hope for a warm Maximal reception. {{storylink|The Probe}} Thus, when the Maximals later thought that Megatron's band had been destroyed, Dinobot elected to remain on Earth while the Maximals repaired their ship and launched it. However, just as Dinobot wandered off to explore the world that had become his, he stumbled across the not-so-dead Predacons, who attacked the Axalon and grounded the Maximals once again.{{storylink|Victory (Beast Wars episode)|Victory}}

Despite his increasing loyalty to the team, his violent heart occasionally created rifts. Most notably was his reaction to [[Tigatron]]'s pacifism: When the tiger tried to leave the Maximals in grief over the accidental death of his best friend, Dinobot argued vociferously with the "coward." He simply could not comprehend what Tigatron was saying: that in order to stop the fighting, someone had to lay down his gun. Dinobot could only see desertion, and for that he nearly killed Tigatron, who refused to fight back. But Primal interrupted before any damage was done, and Tigatron later came back to battle to save Dinobot from a Predacon attack, making the whole point moot. {{storylink|Law of the Jungle}}

The confrontation with Tigatron revealed more than just Dinobot's warrior ethic. He explained to Tigatron a bit of his motives for turning against Megatron: He feared that if Megatron used Earth's energon supply to wage a new war, Cybertron would burn as a result. But, of course, Dinobot had helped Megatron steal the disk in the first place, the stated goal having been to find energon. This appeared to be a contradiction (or massive change of heart) on Dinobot's part, but later revelations would fill in a larger picture.

The catalyst for these insights would be the destruction of the [[Planet Buster]] moon and most of the energon deposits, making it obvious that they were on Earth after all. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors, Part 1}} Dinobot broke into the Predacon base and stole the golden disks. He gave the [[Alien Disk|Vok disk]] to [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]], but the Voyager disk he hid from both sides. He knew that it contained information about the future, and it cut to the core of his being: "If the future is indeed immutably foretold, then my demise is but moments from that confirmation, for I could not live if not the master of my fate."

His desire to discover whether the future could be changed kept him focused on Megatron's actions. When Predacon installations were placed in a Voyager-disk-like pattern, Dinobot remarked, "So, Megatron, your plan proceeds even without the disk." {{storylink|Maximal, No More}} This apparent knowledge of Megatron's plans had two implications: It explained Dinobot's original allegiance to the thief, which had nothing to do with energon-gathering. And it gave him reason to rejoin Megatron's circle as the possibility of the original plan's fruition reemerged.

Thus, he resubmitted himself to Megatron's command, but the Maximal influence still showed itself. When he was pitted in a deathmatch against [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]] in a bizarre test of loyalty, Dinobot subdued his foe but refused to kill him, offering to train him instead. But Megatron accepted the prodigal son anyway, as long as he returned the Golden Disk. Dinobot complied. He admitted to himself that he might be sacrificing his own race, but "either way I will know the truth at last."

After the artifact was back in Megatron's hands, Rattrap attacked and was quickly immobilized. As a final test of allegiance, Dinobot was ordered to kill his former teammate. This task proved too much for him, and he turned once again on the Predacon leader. Megatron retreated with the disk in his possession, and it's implied that Dinobot then told Optimus about Megatron's plan to attack [[Ark (G1)|the Ark]].

After contemplating suicide and enduring Rattrap's recriminations, Dinobot decided to set things right. {{storylink|Code of Hero}} He tracked Megatron down and found him testing the Voyager disk. Megatron had discovered a mountain whose image was recorded on the disk, and he was blowing the peak up just as Dinobot arrived. From a distance, Dinobot saw his greatest hope and worst fear simultaneously: The disk's image changed. Dinobot's future was his own... but Megatron had virtually limitless power.

When the Predacons launched an attack on a tribe of proto-humans, attempting to destroy the future human race, Dinobot singlehandedly took all of the Predacons on. Ignoring the damage he sustained, the warnings of his own internal computer, and the danger to himself, Dinobot defeated everyone save Megatron. Mocking the weakened Dinobot, Megatron tallied the score firmly in his own favor: He had unimaginable power via the disk, the valley of the proto-humans was in ruins, and he had hostages. Refusing to quit, Dinobot jammed a rock through a stick and attacked with the makeshift hammer. Megatron dropped the disk, and Dinobot blasted it to pieces with his last bit of energy. A short time after the rest of the Maximals arrived, Dinobot's spark left his frame.

He was given a hero's funeral, with his body cremated as the Maximal fliers executed a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_man_formation Missing Man formation]. His legacy remained even with the anthropoids, who found his hammer and used it as a weapon.

Starscream helped invade the [[Ark]], got deactivated. Woke up, questioned Megatron, got deactivated. Fought Omega Supreme, got deactivated. Was mysteriously active when meeting [[Cobra]]. Rescued by [[Ratbat]]'s forces on the Moon, Starscream later discovered the story of the powerful [[Underbase]]. He then set about a chain of systematic betrayals in order to gain access to that power. He set loose [[Buster Witwicky]], whom the Decepticons had been holding prisoner, with equipment that would lure the Autobots to the Decepticon's [[Antarctica]] base. The ensuing battle served to distract his fellow Decepticons as he then stole a ship from [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] to look for the Underbase. {{storylink|Cold War!}}

Upon finding it, he began absorbing its power but was unable to finish the task as he was interrupted by Ratbat's ship, piloted by a temporary Autobot/Decepticon alliance. Starscream however survived, thanks to the power he absorbed. After throwing Scorponok's ship at Ratbat's, he loudly proclaimed "I go now to destroy the cities of [[New York]], [[Tokyo]], and [[Buenos Aires]]!"

The Autobots and Decepticons traveled to those locations to try and stop Starscream, but they ultimately failed, as a massive amount of the Transformers active on Earth were badly damaged and incapacitated by Starscream's Underbase-powered rampage. The [[Aerialbot|Aerialbots]], [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]], [[Bluestreak]], [[Brawn]], [[Gears]], [[Goldbug]], [[Mirage (G1)|Mirage]], [[Hoist (G1)|Hoist]], [[Hound (G1)|Hound]], [[Jazz]], the [[Seacon (G1)|Seacons]], and [[Blaster]] were offlined in New York, although Ratbat escaped. The [[Throttlebot|Throttlebots]], [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]], [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]], the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] (including [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]]), and the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]], were decimated in Tokyo, though Scorponok left before he was destroyed as well. The Underbase eventually realized it was acting insane and regained control, but as soon as it did, Dreadwind and Darkwing siphoned all the power out of it and Starscream's corpse returned to being an inanimate pile of scrap which the pair quickly collected.'' {{storylink|Race with the Devil}}

His self-esteem crumbled every time the other Decepticons refused to speak to him or spoke about him behind his back. In reality, the other Decepticons were terribly frightened of Starscream (thanks to that whole Underbase thing) and were avoiding him so they wouldn't be killed. Starscream sulked about it for a while until he defeated and captured a few Autobots and his confidence began to return. ''

Starscream fled [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] with [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] in the [[Ark]] after [[Unicron]]'s assault. Shockwave and Starscream found Megatron and Ratchet awakening from the [[Nucleon]], both very confused and addled due to their mind-link. Ratchet collected enough sanity to direct one of Starscream's null-rays into the Nucleon, causing enough of a chain reaction to send the Ark into a crash-landing on Earth, once again resulting in Starscream's deactivation.

Megatron revitalized Starscream who then, predictably, betrayed Megatron and the Decepticons once again. This time by giving [[Jhiaxus]] and his troops information that allowed them to take control of the Decepticon's [[Warworld]]. Starscream then double-crossed Jhiaxus, stole the [[Creation Matrix]] (which Megatron had stolen from Prime earlier) and used its powers to merge himself with the Warworld, becoming an unstoppable force of destruction. As Optimus Prime and Megatron entered the possessed ship to try and stop him, Starscream discovered firsthand the dangers of stealing the Matrix as it rewrote his programming to better suit its own tastes. As a result, Starscream soon became a snow-white boy scout with no mounted weapons that would never hurt a fly and went out of his way to help old ladies across the street. (More or less.)

He fervently hopes the effect is only temporary.

He and his colleague [[Skyfire]] were exploring an unnamed planet - the ancient [[Earth]] - when severe atmospheric conditions separated the two friends. Starscream's rash and spiteful actions led to the resurrection of the Autobots on Earth, when a blast intended to trap the Autobots there forever caused Optimus Prime to fall into the life giving rays of Teletraan-I, who soon had all his fellow Autobots ready for action again.{{storylink|More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1}} Starscream would always demand action rather than waste time with planning, often calling Megatron a coward or taking action himself without waiting for the order. Needless to say, this got him nearly killed by Megatron on more than one occasion.

Starscream's status probably came from the fact he had command over the other [[Seeker|Jet Fighter Decepticons]], which formed pretty much 50% of the entire Decepticon force at the time of the first and second seasons. Megatron, very desperate for troops (especially ones who were so predictable), kept Starscream around.

Starscream's ambition was also great, and often sought to take command away from Megatron. One such attempt was to challenge him to a duel, and shoot him in the back when he turned away laughing. His "victory" here was short lived, as Megatron was just stunned, shot Starscream, and banished him from his forces. This led Starscream to "create" the [[Combaticon]]s, from a bunch of wrecked army vehicles he found on the island he was deserted on, and some Decepticon "Brains" he stole from a Decepticon prison on Cybertron.{{storylink|Starscream's Brigade}} Megatron let him, and his newly formed army, back into the Decepticons soon afterwards, despite the fact they were all Decepticon outcasts and criminals.{{storylink|The Revenge of Bruticus}}

Starscream's thirst for leadership led to his death when, during the Decepticon's dramatic siege on [[Autobot City]], Megatron would fight his final battle with Optimus Prime. By the end of it, the Decepticon leader was battered beyond repair, left on the verge of stasis lock. Starscream, who if nothing else can see an opportunity in every situation, took advantage of this moment of weakness to rally the healthy Decepticons that remained after the battle, ejecting the "dead weight" of his wounded former comrades into space. Starscream, with transparent satisfaction, threw Megatron out personally, before closing the door on that part of Transformers history and beginning an inter-Decepticon brawl that would eventually place him at the head of the ranks.

Starscream couldn't have known, of course, that Megatron would be found and reshaped by the godlike [[Unicron]] before his Spark faded completely. Reborn as [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], he made it his first order of business to take back what Starscream had taken, interrupting the pompous and overblown coronation Starscream had set up for himself and killing him with a single, terrible blast, likely setting a record for the shortest reign in Decepticon history.{{storylink|The Transformers: The Movie (1986)}}

This was not the end, however, as his ghost came back, with "cunning" schemes. First he possessed [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]], and handed Galvatron over to [[Rodimus Prime]]. Rodimus didn't kill or even imprison Galvatron however, and he came back angered and shot his second in command, not realizing he had not been himself.{{storylink|Starscream's Ghost}} Starscream had already found a new host in [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] by this time, whom he used in his next "master plan". This one involved making deals with Unicron, who requested Starscream help him find new body parts, in return for a new body for himself. Starscream followed his orders exactly, until his host ran off before his could connect Unicron's head to Cybertron as a new body. This is where Starscream showed his "true cunning", stating that if Unicron wanted him to connect him to his new Planet, he would have to give him his new body first. Unicron did so, repeating his request to finish connecting his head to his new body, however Starscream turned on him immediately, telling him mockingly to do it himself. At this point, the Autobots set off a load of explosives, unaware of these turn of events, that sent Starscream, in his new body, spinning out of control through space, past Galvatron and his crew (Galvatron took this chance to fire at what he thought was a ghost), and never to be seen again.

One last thing to note is Cyclonus's line after the last glimpse of Starscream: "Wait a minute... since when do ghosts stumble out of control through space?"{{storylink|Ghost in the Machine}}

Between the events of "Starscream's Ghost" and "Ghost in the Machine" the 5th issue of the Transformers 2010 manga (simply called "The Transformer") takes place. In this story, Starscream's ghost teams up with the [[Quintesson|Quintessons]] who build him a powerful new body. The new body, equipped with attacks such as "Right Arm Destron Gun" and the "Revolver Laser", was created using a combination of Optimus Prime's and Megatron's designs. The result is [[Guiltar]].

Guiltar joins the Decepticons and quickly becomes Galvatron's right-hand man (literally, in like, 5 seconds). Galvatron compliments Guiltar on his power and loyalty, and instinctively, Guiltar beats the crap out of Galvatron and declares his ambition to take-over the Decepticons. Rodimus Prime and Galvatron call a truce and join forces to defeat Guiltar. They wreck him something fierce, destroying his body and forcing Starscream's ghost out. They then end the truce and go about their business.

Starscream's ghost traveled through time and space to the prehistoric earth of the [[Beast Wars]], where he possessed [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspinator]]'s body during an electrical storm. He ingratiated himself with Megatron, claiming that he had been destroyed by [[Unicron]] while protecting [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]. After leading a successful raid on the [[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]], he was left in command of the captured Maximal ship, along with [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] and Scorponok, the former of whom he took as his 'protégé'. When the defeated Maximals surrendered to him, he took Dinobot and [[Optimus Primal (BW)|Optimus Primal]] hostage and ordered the remaining Maximals to attack the [[Darkside]] - Scorponok objected, but he was very forcefully overruled. Shortly after the attack began, the two captive Maximals broke out and drove the Predacons out of the Axalon. Starscream fled, pursued by Primal, and abandoned Blackarachnia to her fate. After a spirited chase, Primal cornered Starscream at an [[energon]] deposit, paralyzing him. As he tried to bargain his way out of his predicament, his vengeful ex-partner Blackarachnia detonated the energon, blowing Waspinator to scrap and forcing Starscream's spark out of his body.

Adrift in space once more, Starscream's ghost screamed vengeance into the void...

Starscream was a competitor in [[Cybertron|Cybertron's]] underground gladiatorial matches, the breeding ground for what would eventually become the Decepticons. He enjoyed baiting his fellow combatant, [[Grimlock]]; in fact, he was a master at it. Once war broke out, he kept taunting his old friend, which eventually backfired when he told Grimlock exactly where the Seekers were going to attack, giving Grimlock time to set a massive bomb. Starscream's life was saved only by the fast action of Skywarp.

In typical fashion, Starscream tried to seize power. While Megatron was deep within the bowels of Cybertron, Starscream instructed [[Scrapper]] to initiate the planet's long-hidden transformation sequence, hoping Megatron would be crushed in the process. Some people never learn.

A few millenia later, after the apparent death of Megatron, Starscream created a splinter group of Decepticons called [[Predacon (War Within)|Predacons]]. However, when your smartest subordinate is [[Motormaster]] you can't expect much of your forces.

Starscream was among the Decepticon boarding party that attacked the Autobot flagship ''Ark'', causing its crash landing on Earth and putting all both Autobot and Decepticon alike in emergency stasis. In 1984 a volcanic eruption awakened the Ark's computer, Teletran-I, and it repaired all on board. In 1998, the combined forces of the Autobots and Earth defeated and captured the Decepticons. Starscream secured on board the ''Ark 2'' along with the other Decepticons when the ship exploded, killing the human crew and scattering the Transformers across the ocean. Arms dealer Adam Rook (aka. [[Lazarus]]) recovered several of the Autobots and Decepticons and used them as a reprogrammed weapon for hire for terrorists and despots. {{Storylink|Prime Directive, Part 1}} As part of a demonstration to prospective buyers, Rook had Starscream join an assault against the Smitco Oil Refinery alongside half a dozen Transformers. The reactivated Starscream, along with his Seeker brothers Thundercracker and Skywarp, took a particular pleasure in dismantling the Autobot Minicars. When Megatron complained that he didn't rewire them so they could sit around and do nothing, Starscream playfully said they were only having some fun with their new ''toys''. Megatron ordered the three Decepticons to follow him, and when Skywarp asked Starscream what their leader's plan was this time, the air commander casually tossed [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]]'s head over his shoulder said that he doesn't care, as it was going to be evil, and evil is ''always'' fun. Soon afterwards, the Autobots arrived and attacked. As Starscream attempted to choke [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]], [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]] paid him back, with a nice throat punch. The Decepticons escaped and attacked [[San Francisco]]. Starscream went head to head with another time-displaced transformer, [[Star Saber (G1)|Star Saber]] only to find himself defeated once Optimus Prime arrived as back-up. Beast Megatron, arriving on [[Smokesniper]], saved Starscream from a crashing into the ground but quickly chucked him aside after lamenting over the Decepticon's worthlessness.

Later, Beast Megatron discovered a large deposit of solitarium beneath [[New York City]] and ordered the Decepticons to tear the city apart. Starscream, Smokesniper, [[Gigant Bomb]] and [[Wingstun]] did just that, blowing up buildings and razing a good portion of the Big Apple. Starscream was then shot out of the sky by another time-displaced Autobot, [[Reverse Convoy]]. Reverse Convoy quickly gained the trust of the other Autobots after being seen blasting Starscream. 10 seconds later, Reverse Convoy reveals himself as the original Megatron, now going by the name [[Megatron (G1)|Rebirth Megatron]]. Makes sense.

Starscream, along with his comrades, Skywarp and Thundercracker, were recruited by Soundwave when Megatron requested fliers. They believed they had been called to join Megatron's gladiatorial team, but accepted the offer to join the Decepticons, Starscream pronouncing how much of an honor fighting along side Megatron would be. After going through some upgrades to boost their fire ppower, the Seekers' first duty was to capture a senator, who would be executed at Megatron's recruitment rally. When the security forces intervened, Starscream was captured, and, surprise, surprise, offered to reveal Megatron's plans to save his own neck. Plans Megatron regretted giving him everything on.

Later, Starscream, now an F-22 Raptor, is the leader of a Decepticon insurgent cell that has operated covertly on Earth for at least four years, working to destabilize Earth's governing organizations and create global anarchy. However, since the discovery of the mysterious, Energon-like substance, [[Ore-13]], Starscream has stepped outside standard procedure, establishing a second command bunker in [[Oregon]] above a richer seam of the ore than the one in [[Nebraska]] and ordering [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]] and [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] to cover his tracks. : ''Classics'' Starscream is a faithful reproduction of his original toy, but with modern standards of toy engineering, transformation, sculpting detail and articulation. He still transforms into an F-15 Eagle, but has the nose of an F-14 Tomcat fighter jet. His colour scheme is inspired by photolab-edited photographs of the prototype F-15 Eagle, as the original photos and the actual colours of the prototype fighter were actually sky blue with bright orange markings.

: In robot mode, Starscream is essentially a very detailed version of his cartoon robot mode, with many design elements that would also find their way into Masterpiece Starscream. He is armed with two (overly large) null-ray missile launchers, which are so large that they restrict his arm movement due to them bumping into his wings.

: Later versions of Starscream saw a [[retool]] in the jet intake area first seen on Classics [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]]. The slope of his shoulders was decreased, and a rectangle added to the vertical area, making the number now five instead of four. This version of Starscream is the harder to find of the two. This retooled version was used for Classics Skywarp, [[Ramjet (G1)|Ramjet]], [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]], [[Thrust (G1)|Thrust]], and [[Dirge (G1)|Dirge]].

He is sculpted holding Megatron in gun mode in his left hand, and holding up is palm outward with his right, while using his jets to fly up. EXCITEMENT.

* In the French dub of Transformers: The Movie, Starscream (along with [[Shrapnel]]) inexplicably became a woman. This change, however, was only for the movie, as it used a different dubbing team from the cartoon. Most likely, the movie's French dubbing team mistook Starscream's rather high-pitched voice for a woman's voice.
* The G1 executive script consultant, [[Flint Dille]], has claimed in personal interviews that [[Chris Latta]] had to frequently be bailed out of jail by members of the production staff. This apparently caused so much annoyance that it was a major factor in phasing Starscream out of the series.
