==Synopsis==

[[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] general Magmatron travels back to the era of the [[Beast Wars]] on prehistoric [[Earth]]. He's supposed to pick-up where [[Ravage]] failed and retrieve the rogue [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], but his actual plan is to gather an army from the Axalon's [[stasis pod]]s and return home to conquer Cybertron. [[Lio Convoy]] has inserted [[Razorbeast]] into the Predacon forces to stop him. Razorbeast manages to keep some of the awakened protoforms [[Maximal]] and then stalls for time and tries to contact Cybertron. Finally the new Maximals arrive in the nick of time and defeat the Predacon forces. Magmatron is sent unwillingly back to the future, while Razorbeast all the other characters settle down in the past, to wait and see if Cybertron got their call and will send help.

==Errors==

* The cartoon suggests that most of the stasis pods were either damaged or destroyed, so their undamaged status is something of a minor [[retcon]].

* The writers of the series, in explaining [[Depth Charge]] as a Transmetal, said the Earth's atmosphere was permanently charged by the [[Planet Buster]] explosion, causing the process. In light of this (and even regardless of it) how the pods spew forth 'standard', Transmetal and [[Transmetal 2]] Transformers is a mystery.

* [[K-9]] is featured, even though Alsatians wouldn't exist for another 4 million years.

==Items of note==

* This series takes place during the third season Beast Wars cartoon and disregards the finished and unfinished 3H [[Universe (comic)|Botcon/OTFCC Comics]]. Both comics play around with this era and the non-show BW characters.

* Razorbeast's decision not to fool with the timestream by eliminating Megatron is questionable at best, since Megatron was originally from his era and was himself messing with time. Though it might be argued that any changes Megatron were going to make in the past were already (from Razorbeast's perspective) part of history, when Razorbeast went back, and so stopping him now could theoretically affect the specific future from which Razorbeast came. (Neither Ravage nor Depth Charge, who both traveled back in time shortly before Razorbeast did so, seemed to be concerned about this.) Yeah, time travel gives me a headache too.

* The control art for the robot mode of 6" [[Titanium]] [[Optimal Optimus]] can be found among Don Figueroa's concept work in the back of the collected volume.

*The Gathering and The Ascending both feature numerous characters who were previously exclusive to Japan, including Half Shel, Magmatron and both Big Convoy and Lio Convoy.

{{Template:Disambig3|Megatron}}

:''Megatron is a [[Predacon]], a [[Vehicon]], and a [[Decepticon]] in the [[Beast Era]] portion of the [[Generation 1]] [[continuity family]]. He's a busy villain. Yessss.''

[[Image:Megatronbw.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Next person to make a Barney joke gets this tail/weapon shoved deep somewhere uncomfortable. Yessssss.]]

'''Megatron''' has one goal -- restoring glory and power to the Predacon race, with himself at the helm. What distinguishes Megatron from the countless others who share this goal is his chutzpah. He is willing to risk everything &mdash; time, space, himself &mdash; if need be.

Megatron is skillful at orchestrating vast schemes by manipulating others into doing them for him -- an idle suggestion here, a conspicuously-planted object of interest there. He knows his enemies inside and out and exactly how to provoke them. He has no friends, only pawns. Because of this attitude, this superiority complex, he despises working with the very troops he needs to carry out his plans. His hubris does not make him very popular, and so he must rely on power and fear to rule them.

Megatron is a gambler and can sometimes be a ham. (His manner of saying "Yesss..." is practically vaudevillian.) He has a twisted sense of humor and an over-developed sense of drama which rule everything he conceives, both long and short term. When he destroys you, he wants you to know that it was he who did this, and just how badly you were had. This is his greatest weakness. Like a Bond villain, he'll gladly boast to the hero at length about how smart and clever he was, giving his victim time to formulate a counterattack (he admits the Predacons sometimes gloat too much). He often sabotages himself by neglecting the quick and easy solutions for the bigger, meaner, and more complex.

Prior to the signing of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], Megatron was a field commander in the Predacon army, where he learned much about strategy and tactics. Upon ratification of peace with the [[Maximal Imperium]] most Predacons laid down their arms. Megatron refused and went rogue.
On planet [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Megatron once disagreed with [[Galvatron (BWII)|Galvatron]] over opinions on galactic conquest, and engaged him in battle over it. At the time, Megatron momentarily let his guard down, and was defeated. Galvatron declared "Your era is over, Megatron!"

Later, Megatron noted that while Galvatron was ambitious, he cared for his underlings - and although he was loathe to admit it, he acknowledged that Galvatron probably had all the regal bearing of a new [[Emperor of Destruction]]. {{storylink|Beast Wars II catalog}}
After stealing the [[Golden Disk]] ''(wrongly drawn as the [[Alien Disk]])'', Megatron broke into [[Vector Sigma]] along with [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] and reviewed historical files on many of the Autobots and Decepticons from the [[Generation 1]] era. He told Dinobot to refer to him henceforth as Megatron. {{storylink|Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye #8}}
[[Image:Megatronbwsuit.jpg|thumb|150px|Megatron's technicolor dreamcoat.]]
On Cybertron, Megatron wore removable transformable armor, which transformed into a missile-launching armored platform, over his basic bodyframe (which transforms into a hovertank). This quickly-discarded outer shell was possibly used to comply with the ratification of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], which required Predacons to lay down their arms. A Predacon field commander before the peace, Megatron refused to comply with these new regulations and struck out on his own to destroy the [[Maximal Imperium]].

With some [[Cryotek|help]] from [[Divebomb (G1)|various sources]], he assembled a crew of ragtag criminals and miscreants for the purpose of stealing the Golden Disk and using it to find [[Earth]]. Succeeding in stealing the disk, he, [[Dinobot (BW)|his lieutenant]], and [[Scorponok (BW)|another accomplice]] fought their way out of the [[Archives]], eliminating [[Unit 1|one guard]] and dodging [[Tigatron|another]]. They were swiftly picked up by the ''[[Darksyde]]'', a ship stolen by the rest of their crew.

Megatron instructed [[Tarantulas]] to study the disk for the coordinates of Earth while the ''Darkside'' battled its several pursuers. Although they were followed by the Maximal ships [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']] and the ''[[Chromia 10]]'', the ''Darksyde''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s mission was also aided by a third ship crewed by the Predacon agents [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] and [[Buzzsaw (G1)|Buzzsaw]]. Though the ''Chromia 10'' and the Predacon ship were destroyed, the ''Darksyde'' was still followed by the ''Axalon''. Megatron removed his transformable armor and patched a video feed through to the ''Axalon'''s captain, [[Optimus Primal]]. Declaring himself the leader of the Predacons, Megatron opened a [[transwarp]] portal through which both ships travelled. {{storylink|Dawn of Future's Past}}
After stealing the Maximal relic, the [[Golden Disk]], and [[Darksyde|a ship]], he and his crew were followed through a [[transwarp]] portal by the [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']]. After crashing on a planet that was supposed to be [[Earth]], yet seemingly wasn't, both the [[Maximal]]s and the Predacons took organic beast forms to protect themselves against the massive amount of Energon radiation. Megatron now transformed into a purple ''Tyrannosaurus rex''.

Dinobot chastised Megatron, accusing him of leading the Predacons to the wrong planet and challenged Megatron for leadership of the Predacons. Megatron simply ignored the challenge and had Scorponok dispose of him. {{storylink|Beast Wars, Part 1}}

Despite the loss of a formidable crony, Megatron positioned himself on the new world and the "Beast Wars" began. Being on a world filled with Energon allowed [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]] to find a superhorde, and power himself to great levels. With this power, Terrorsaur was able to demolish Megatron in battle and take over the Predacons. However, through the Maximals' actions, the superhorde was destroyed. Terrorsaur was eventually ridden of his newfound power and returned to an angered Megatron, who was rebuilt by [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]]. {{storylink|Power Surge}}

[[Image:Megatronbwtrex.jpg|150px|thumb|Ah, today is a beautiful day to be out stomping on things!]]
Again, Terrorsaur tried to usurp Megatron, this time using an apparently-turned [[Rattrap]], who used a device to paralyze Megatron. The Predacons argued over who would be leader, but agreed to put Rattrap and Megatron away for the time being. Megatron was able to easily escape using his secret voice commands, leaving Rattrap to his fate. Revealing himself to have escaped, Megatron allowed Terrorsaur to lead the Predacons in battle with the Maximals. Terrorsaur failed miserably, showing his ineptitude to the Predacons, which was Megatron's plan all along. {{storylink|Double Jeopardy}}

Megatron later formulated a plan to get off Earth. First, he had the other Predacons act dissatisfied with his leadership, causing a battle that apparently destroyed the Predacons, using a Maximal spy camera that he was aware of to play out the trick. Then, the Maximals scavenged the ''Darksyde'' for parts to repair the ''Axalon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s stardrive. Dinobot discovered the deception and rushed to warn the leaving Maximals. In the scuffle, Megatron snuck aboard. In the ''Axalon'', he managed to knock out every Maximal on the ship but Rattrap, who he started crushing to death. An angered [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] woke up and threw Megatron off the ''Axalon''. However, Megatron's tail weapon was stuck in the console, causing the ''Axalon'' to crash. Again. {{storylink|Victory (Beast Wars episode)|Victory}}

Later, Megatron caught wind of the return of the [[Vok]] and called a ceasefire between the two factions, realizing he had more important things to worry about. The Vok did indeed return, and planned to destroy the planet the Transformers were on with their massive [[Planet Buster]] (cleverly disguised as the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]). Optimus Primal managed to stop the planet buster after flying close to it within a modified stasis pod. Megatron added a little surprise for Primal within the pod, though; locking the door so that Primal could not escape and was destroyed when the planet buster exploded. {{storylink|Other Voices}}

The [[quantum surge]] from the exploding planet buster bathed Megatron in quantum energies, upgrading him into a [[transmetal]]. Megatron quickly rallied his forces and attempted an all-out attack on the leader-less Maximals. Megatron and the Predacons took the upperhand in battle until a transmetal Optimus Primal (brought back online by [[Rhinox]]) saved the day. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors, Part 1}}

With both factions now aware that the planet they were stranded on was really prehistoric [[Earth]], Megatron was free to put his full plan into motion. Locating the crashed [[Ark]], Megatron attempted to alter history by assassinating the unconscious [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. By doing so, he intended to ensure the defeat of the [[Autobot]]s and thus the victory of the [[Decepticon]]s and Predacons. (For unknown reasons, he showed no concern that such a drastic change to the timestream might erase his own existence.) {{storylink|The Agenda, Part 3}}

The Maximals managed to save Prime's life by having [[Teletraan-1]] repair his body while Optimus Primal kept his spark within his own structure, transforming his body into a more powerful form. The Maximals defeated Megatron and returned Prime's spark to its proper place. {{storylink|Optimal Situation}}

[[Image:Megatrontm2render.jpg|left|thumb|250px|Two Megatrons for the price of one.]]

Megatron was not to be outdone. He managed to sneak inside the Ark (which was now the new Maximal base) and take the spark of the original Megatron, seeking to replicate the effect Optimus Prime's spark had on Primal's body. He placed his namesake's spark within his body, transforming himself into a powerful dragon. With this newfound body, Megatron was able to give Optimus Primal a sound beating, until chased away by the entire Maximal group. {{Storylink|Master Blaster}}

Megatron's next evil scheme involved the legendary Decepticon battleship, the [[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]. After finding the ship deep beneath the ocean, Megatron intended to pilot it back to the future and lay waste to the Maximals on Cybertron. {{storylink|Nemesis, Part 1}} First, however, he planned to annihilate the Ark on prehistoric Earth. Primal infiltrated the Nemesis and kept Megatron busy until Rhinox could fly a shuttlecraft through the bridge and take the Predacon out. The Nemesis crashed a second time and thus preserved history.

After returning the original Megatron's spark to its proper body, the Maximals headed back to Cybertron with the incarcerated Megatron shackled to the outside of their ship. {{Storylink|Nemesis, Part 2}}
Taking advantage of the [[Blasty Zone]] as a means of time travel (and apparently size-enhancer), Megatron journeyed to a point in history where the original Megatron had gone missing, leaving the [[Decepticon]]s without a leader. "Beast Megatron" took command of the Decepticons, leading them on a quest to collect a powerful element, [[solitarium]], from within the Earth. Beast Megatron's plans were quickly thwarted by [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and a troop of time-displaced Autobots and Maximals, including [[Star Saber (G1)|Star Saber]], [[Victory Leo]], [[Lio Convoy]] and Beast Megatron's arch nemesis, [[Optimus Primal]].

Beast Megatron later discovered a large deposit of solitarium beneath [[New York City]], and along with [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], [[Smokesniper]], [[Gigant Bomb]] and [[Wingstun]], laid waste to the Big Apple. The Autobots, accompanied by [[Reverse Convoy]], arrived and dealt with Beast Megatron's forces quickly. However, Reverse Convoy revealed himself to be the original Megatron in disguise and betrayed them. Now going by the name [[Megatron (G1)#Robot Masters (Japan-only)|Rebirth Megatron]], he teamed up with Beast Megatron and the pair made trouble for the Autobot commanders. However, the Autobots were able to defeat the two Megatrons, sending the villains into retreat.

[[Image:Megatron for life.jpg|right|thumb|Whaddya mean, 'Triumph of the Will'?]]Breaking free from his constraints on the Autobot shuttle while it traveled through transwarp space, Megatron arrived back home on Cybertron well before the Maximals did. Using technology of his own devising and of [[Cryotek]]'s, he took over the entire planet, and stored the [[spark]] of every last inhabitant under his citadel. At some point in this period, Megatron became convinced that beast modes and other vestiges of the organic were an abomination that should be scoured from Cybertron, leaving only technological purity. (Whereas before he had seemed perfectly pleased with his dinosaur and dragon beast modes.) Additionally, Megatron seemed to have undergone a change. Gone was the ham who sought conquest for the sake of glory and power. He now spoke as if a god, almost reminicent of his quotes from the Covenant of Primus. His actions were based not on the thirst for revenge on Maximals but in hopes of becoming a grand liberator for their kind. in addition where as recently as the final battle of the beast wars, he would flatten a subordinate for even mentioning "the H word" he now would keep his word even at the risk of future losses. This was a new and even madder Megatron.

When the Maximals arrived in their shuttle, they found the planet empty aside from countless [[Vehicon|mindless drones]] controlled by Megatron. Megatron's drones immediately bombarded the Maximals with [[devolving gas]] to revert their powerful [[Transmetal]] bodies to normal beast mode bodies, and they were also affected by a [[transformation lock]] virus which Megatron had used to help him conquer the planet in the first place.

Despite his best efforts, the Maximals escaped, and learned to transform again after Primal used the [[Oracle]]'s power to [[reformatting|reformat]] them. They began making short work of his Vehicons, so he removed three sparks from his collection to create [[Vehicon general]]s which could think on their feet in battle. For the generals he chose sparks of Transformers that the Maximals already knew, such that if they ever discovered the sparks' identities, they would be reluctant to destroy them: [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]] became [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]], [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] became [[Tankor]], and [[Waspinator]] became [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]]. After Jetstorm was reformated into Silverbolt and Rhinox reawakened and destroyed, Megatron used the sparks of [[Obsidian (BM)|Obsidian]] and [[Strika]] to replace them.

However, Megatron still retained his own beast mode, unwilling to take the momentary risk of transfering his spark to a new body. After releasing the energies of the [[Key to Vector Sigma]] and the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]], Megatron attempted to transfer his spark to another body, but wound of stuck in [[Savage/Noble]], a purely organic creature. Eventually, Megatron would transfer his spark to the [[Grand Mal]], a vessel shaped in his own head. He attempted to consume the captured sparks, but [[Nightscream]] managed to depolarize his spark, causing it to jump between discarded shells and attack everyone in a zombie like fashion. Rattrap would use a [[spark extractor]] to repolarize his spark, allowing Megatron to regain his senses, but trapping him in a [[Diagnostic Drone]].

Ultimately, Megatron succeeded in capturing the sparks of all the Maximals, leaving just Optimus Primal and himself as the only two Transformers on the entire planet. At the end of a fierce one-on-one fight, in which Megatron wore a copy of the powerful Optimal Optimus body, Megatron began consuming his amassed sparks, growing ever more powerful. However, when he attempted to use the [[Key to Vector Sigma]] to transform the planet's [[organic core]] into [[technomatter]], Primal managed to dislodge them both. They plummeted into the planet's goopy core and, somehow, Primal was able to reformat the entire planet, destroying himself and Megatron completely, but freeing all the lost sparks to repopulate their newly redecorated planet.

====''Beast Wars Reborn'' text story====

Both Megatron and Optimus Primal awoke inside a bizarre temple-like spaceship which was hurtling through space. Neither had any memory of who they were or how they got there, only their own names and a feeling of discomfort between one another. The pair went about investigating the ship in search of answers. While Megatron's memory was lost, his personality remained mostly intact: he was more concerned with sezing control of the ship before Primal did in order to gain the upper hand.

They eventually found a data log and discovered that their sparks had been taken and they were reborn into new bodies (unbeknownst to them, bodies identical to their original forms). However, their memories were intentionally not uploaded into their new bodies. While searching the log they discovered that the ship's main power source was a [[Golden Disk]] lodged within a giant pillar. Megatron immediately raced to obtain the Disk and Primal followed him. The closer they got to the disk the more the ship attempted to thwart their advance by manipulating its atmosphere conditions.

Once they reached the chamber the ship's environment suddenly morphed to that of a decaying planet littered with the corpses of robots. The corpses came to life and began shambling toward them, intent on eating their sparks. They made short work of the zombies, leaving Megatron to obtain the Golden Disk and Primal with a feeling that he shouldn't entirely trust Megatron.

From another dimension beyond time and space, [[Primus]] recognized that something was amiss and sent one of his messengers to meet Primal and Megatron within the spaceship.

====''Universe''====
When [[Optimus Primal (BW)|Optimus Primal]]'s spark is revived from the within the Matrix to protect the multiverse, this action freed Megatron's spark as well. The reborn Megatron returned to the ranks of the Predacons, but this time, Optimus Primal found himself in an uneasy alliance with him against Unicron. Megatron traveled with his old nemesis from universe to universe, wherever the growing multiversal conflict had spread. But now with Unicron disappeared into the [[Unicron Singularity]], it remains to be seen whether Megatron's insane ambition will resurface.

Prior to the Universe Conflict an alternate dimension's Megatron was killed by a [[Razorclaw (Universe)|Tigerhawk]] who was corrupted by the Vok. Yet another dimension's Megatron was killed by it's realities [[Obsidian (Universe)|Obsidian]] and [[Tankor (Universe Decepticon)|Tankor]]. All three Megatron-murderers were eventualy promoted to the rank of [[Unicron's General]]. It seems that killing Megatron may be part of Unicron's criteria for choosing a General.
: The third ''Beast Wars'' Megatron toy transformed into a mechanical Tyrannosaurus. In beast mode he has some useful articulation, located in his legs, jaw and tail. As with all ''Transmetal'' toys, he has a 'third' vehicle mode, in this case a tyrannosaurus with rollerskates (which flipout from his legs) and jet engines on the sides on upper thighs.

: Really.

:In robot mode, he finally has two hands, with his tail becoming a flexible, segmented cutlass weapon, though it was depicted in most media as a new version of his main cannon. This cutlass/cannon weapon can be stored at his side on the connector piece it was attached to when it beast mode.

: There are some color differences between this the American and Japanese versions: the American had a light purple-ish glittery plastic for the beast-mode hands, tail, and skates while the Japanese had simple light gray instead. : The final version of ''Beast Wars'' Megatron transformed into a mostly mechanical dragon, with articulation in his legs, little dragon arms and his flexible, rubber neck with vacuum metalised overlapping plates attached on top. The neck was flexible able to be controlled and locked into position by a small lever located at its base. Two projectiles stored in his wings can be fired from a spring-loaded launcher inside his dragon's mouth.

:In robot mode, Megatron resembles a winged demon, appropriate given his characterisation. His chest is dominated by a small cockpit with a control chair inside (see Trivia). Megatron's dragon neck and head replaces his left arm, with an additional missile launcher above his helmet.

: ''Transmetal 2'' Megatron has a third 'vehicle' mode, which appears to be an afterthought, as it basically involves the dragon sitting very low to the ground so the wheels mounted on the legs and body can make contact and roll.
*Throughout the series, Megatron seems to have a mild obsession with creating clones of Dinobot, as seen with the purely biological clone, the cyber raptors and Dinobot 2. Some peopple never know when to let a relationship go.

*The Japanese dub of Beast Wars chose to interject humor at every available opportunity. Due to this, Megatron's personality and character were taken on a complete U-turn. Instead of being a smooth and charismatic leader, he was a screaming maniac and a bumbling oaf. His most notable character-trait in Japan was that whenever he was fired-upon or startled he would let-out a high-pitched shriek like a '''[[Scorponok (BW)|little girl]]'''.''

*Megatron's initial basic Beast Wars toy is a [[retool]] of [[Iguanus (BW)|Iguanus]] with new alligator and robot heads, and no frill. The screw hole for the frill bracket remains. Both toys were released at roughly the same time.

*The concept art for the original Ultra class figure was largely the same, except in one minor difference: The left arm would have housed an open three clawed hand. The idea of that wouldn't be revisited until the 10th anniversary Deluxe Megatron.
==Quotes==
"Destroy this valley, and everything in it! The human race shall never have existed!"
:-- '''Megatron''', announcing the impending genocide of the proto-humans.

"The question that once haunted my being has been answered. The future is not fixed, and my choices are my own. And yet, how ironic - for I now find that I have no choice at all! I am a warrior... let the battle be joined."
:-- '''Dinobot''', realizing his destiny.

"One lonely turncoat, battling on against impossible odds. (Wiping fake tear) I'm almost touched... fortunately such moments pass quickly. Quickstrike, scrap him!"
:-- '''Megatron''', observing '''Dinobot''''s fight to save the valley single-handedly.

"What's a warrior without weapons, eh?"<br>
"A warrior ''still!''"
:-- '''Quickstrike''' goading '''Dinobot''' into a fight.

"Hmm, my ears are burning! Yesss! Why, Dinobot, what a delightful surprise! Let's see, where are we now? I have the Golden Disk. I have the power to change the future. And the only obstacle in my path to unimaginable glory... is ''yourself''. Exhausted. Damaged beyond recovery. ''Defeated''."<br>
"Not just yet!"<br>
"Uh-uh-uh!"<br>
(Megatron reveals a proto-human bound in energon bindings)<br>
"One more step and it's raining bits of early anthropoid, yesss. Oh dear, how positively ''Maximal'' of you. You were weakened before you started, Dinobot. Weakened by ''compassion''."
:-- '''Megatron''' confronting the severely damaged '''Dinobot'''.

"Oh, hohoho. Really, Dinobot? A stick, against a ''Transmetal''? I think ''not''."<br>
"Final Warning: Power failing. Jeopardy extreme. Repeat: Extreme."<br>
"Please. Face it, Dinobot. You're old technology. ''Obsolete''. What could ''you'', possibly ''do''?"<br>
"Improvise."
:-- '''Megatron''' arrogantly mocking '''Dinobot''' while the Maximal's computer warns him of his injuries.

"Well fought my friend. You saved the valley. You saved the lives of those who live here... and of those who are still to come."
:-- '''Optimus Primal'''

"Like I said, you're just a blasted slag-spouting saurian, but... its nice to know where you stand."<br>
"Upwind of you, for preference, vermin."
:-- '''Rattrap''' and '''Dinobot''' sharing one last banter.

"He lived a warrior... and died a hero. Let his spark join the Matrix. The greatest of Cybertron."
:-- '''Optimus Primal's''' eulogy to '''Dinobot'''.

A Maximal science vessel and a fugitive Predacon starship crash land on a mysterious, primitive world.

==Summary==
[[Image:BWPart1_strangenewworld.jpg|thumb|left|200px|We're goin' down]]

[[Image:BWPart1_entryburn.jpg|thumb|right|200px|The one time they forgot to buy flight insurance]]

In an unknown star system, a [[transwarp]] portal opened, releasing two combatants: a stolen [[Predacon]] [[Darksyde|starship]] and its pursuer, the [[Maximal]] science vessel ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]''. Already carrying the scars of battle, both ships immediately opened fire upon each other. On the ''Axalon'', a youthful crewmember reported on their damaged condition, to which another crew member bitterly complains about their non-combat exploration vessel not being cut out for this mission. Their commander, Optimus Primal, stated that they were the only ship in range capable of intercepting the fugitives. On the Predacon starship, the first officer urges his leader, Megatron, to finish off the Maximals while their shields were down. Megatron arrogantly rebuffed this suggestion, preferring to toy with his opponents by luring them into the orbit of the nearby planet. As the ''Axalon'' passed the Predacon starship's starboard side, Megatron fired the side guns, hitting the Maximals with a broadside which crippled their engines and caused significant damage to their stasis hold. Optimus Primal ordered their cargo of [[stasis pods]] be released into safe orbit, before firing the forward plasma cannons, strafing the Predacons' hull and taking them down with the ''Axalon''. With no engines, both ships were caught in the planet's gravitational pull and crashed onto its surface.

[[Image:BWPart1_beastmodes.jpg|thumb|left|300px|Megatron gets poison insects, arachnids and dinosaurs. Optimus gets...a rat, a cat and a fat.]]

Crashing on a cliff above a lake, Optimus Primal asks for a damage report, and the youngest crewmember said that he didn't want to know. Meanwhile, Predacon warship landed smack in the middle of ash-hardened opening of an active shield volcano, faring considerably worse. Megatron ordered the navigation computer to tell him if this was the planet he had sought. The computer replied that it was unknown, as while the course settings were accurate, the readings were not consistent with what was to be expected of the location. Dismissing this for the time being, Megatron demanded to know if the mysterious planet had [[energon]], which the computer confirmed to his elation. But, it warned that there was so much energon that exposure would permanently damage their robot modes. Furious, Megatron ordered his science officer to scan for local lifeforms which they could adapt as alternate modes to survive on this world. The Predacon ship launched a drone, scanning the fossils of a tyrannosaurus rex, velociraptor and pteranodon, as well as living a living spider and wasp. Back at the cliff, the Maximals had the same idea, scanning a gorilla, rat, rhino and cheetah. The youngest crew member, adopting the form of the cheetah, declared himself to be Cheetor and was very pleased with himself. An older, cynical member of the crew has taken the form of a rat, dissed his young comrade for his suppose lack of taste and introduced himself Rattrap. The oldest and strongest of the crew told the pair to cut out their bickering and to call him Rhinox. Optimus Primal exited the [[CR Chamber]] and ordered the crew to moderate their conflict circuits, reminding them that their new beast forms are to protect them from the long term effect of the abundant energon fields, and while they need energon for power, their robot modes would short out after a few minutes of exposure. After Optimus comments that this world was one unusual planet, where ever it was, Rhinox pointed out that the transwarp drive allows them to journey from space and time, so they could be in any place, any time. Optimus was concerned about the stasis pods in orbit, as it meant the Maximals were outnumbered.

[[Image:BWPart1_beastfaceoff.jpg|thumb|right|200px|"What we have here is a Mexican Stand-off!" "Actually, amigo, down here we just call it a stand-off."]]

Back at the other crash site, the Predacons were testing out their new beast modes, bar one. First officer Dinobot studying the Golden Disk, was furious, declaring that it was 'all wrong', and that this world was not [[Earth]]. He turned to Megatron and spat that the latter was a failure, not only in throwing away victory against the Maximals while it was in his grasp, but failing to guide them to the right planet. Dinobot threw the Golden Disk back into the ship in disgust, and said they had stolen the Disk for nothing, and that Megatron was an idiot. In control of his own anger, Megatron calmly asked what Dinobot had called him, to which his second in command belligerently replied that Megatron had heard, adding that he was an incompetent leader, and challenged him for leadership of the Predacons. Megatron was merely amused when Dinobot transformed and brandished his weapons, stating that the usurper was so impulsive, brave, but sorely misguided. An incensed Dinobot asked if Megatron accepted his challenge, which the leader laughed off, musing that there's more to being a leader than courage, for instance, a leader needs to be clever and cunning. The loyal Scorponok appeared, blasting the treacherous Dinobot with a missile and sending him flying off into the distance. Megatron watched his former first officer fly away, and informed the other Predacons that didn't matter which planet they were on, as they came looking for energon to fuel their war with the Maximals, and this planet was rich with it. If they survived the crash, only the Maximals could pose a threat, so Megatron dispatched his crew to seek out and destroy their enemies.

[[Image:BWPart1_Predsopenfire.jpg|thumb|left|200px|All together now]]

Meanwhile, the Maximals are surveying the land around them and cleaning up the wreckage on the ''Axalon''. Rattrap complains about all the fuss about the Golden Disk. Optimus Primal replied that the Disk was Cybertron's most closely guarded relic, and Megatron stole it because it had the location of a major source of energon. Rattrap doesn't care, saying they were supposed to be doing deep-space exploration and that it isn't his job to chase after criminals. He sarcastically asked Primal if he was sure he was cut out for this command. Optimus reminded him of remember the [[Great War]], and that if Predacons were able to secure a massive source of energon, they wouldn't hesitate to start a new one. On a lighter note, he told Rattrap that the smaller Maximal wanted exploration, so here they were on an unknown planet, and what more could they want. Rattrap said a working space ship would be nice, to which Primal remarked that there was no pleasing some people. Cheetor sees two cheetahs running on the plains near the ship, and Optimus Primal approves of the form Cheetor chose due to the speed. Deciding to show off (and goof off) Cheetor gives chase to the animals. Optimus tries to call him back, but the energon radiation severely limits the range of their communications equipment. Rattrap comes up and asks Primal if its the first day on the job for the untested Maximal commander, to which the latter tells him to shut up.

[[Image:BWPart1_Primalflying.jpg|thumb|right|200px|"I'm a rocket man, rocket man, burnin' out his fuse up here alone."]]

Elsewhere, Cheetor has caught up to the two cheetahs and attempts to engage in conversation with the animals, which, unsurprisingly, scares them. Cheetor doesn't understand why they are so frightened, then saw the two cheetors act aggressively against a rather large wasp. Realizing it was a '''Robot in Disguise''', Cheetor transformed and fired upon the wasp unprovoked. The wasp, revealing itself to be the Predacon Waspinator, transformed and retaliated in self defense. Back at the ''Axalon'', the other Maximals move out to give Cheetor backup, with Rhinox ramming his way through a pile of boulders. Waspinator manages to get the better of Cheetor when the Maximal's rifle jams, but fortunately the Maximals have arrived. Unfortunately, Megatron and the Predacons have arrived as well.

[[Image:BWPart1_coverfire.jpg|thumb|left|200px|Rhinox has his ventriloquist dummy open fire.]]

Optimus Primal tries to convince Megatron to not engage in hostilities, as the Maximals and Predacons have been at peace for centuries. Megatron spat back that while the Maximals may have been at peace, the Predacons, like all enemies who appear 'peaceful', were merely biding their time. The Predacons have never forgotten their goal of galatic conquest and that they were merely waiting for the right time to strike. At that moment, Cheetor's gun unjammed and he fired point blank into Megatron's face. Megatron is greatly impressed by Cheetor's treacherous sneak attack, but over-dramatically said that now the 'power gauntlet has been cast'. Whatever that meant. He ordered the Predacons to terrorize, while the Maximals maximized and both sides opened fire upon each other. As the Maximals sought cover, Cheetor's was blasted by one of Scorponok's missiles and is trapped under a boulder. Optimus Primal orders Rattrap to assist Cheetor while he provided cover fire. Rattrap refuses to risk his life for anybody else, to Optimus' anger. The Maximal leader flies to Cheetor's position but is hit by Predacon fire, much to Rattrap's smug delight. Nonetheless, Optimus manages to free Cheetor while Rhinox forces Rattrap to provide the pair with cover fire. With the Predacons now seeking cover of their own, the Maximals made their escape. Megatron orders pursuit, but he and his Predacons succumb to the effects of the energon buildup and are forced to revert to beast mode.

[[Image:BWPart1_bridgefaceoff.jpg|thumb|right|220px|"Marry my daughter, and our tribes will have peace."]]

On the way home, Optimus Primal informed Rattrap exactly who is in command of the crew and chewed him out for disobeying his direct orders. Rattrap countered in that case he has to be shot at because Primal was afraid of doing it himself. Optimus angrily replied that he would never give an order that he wouldn't be willing to carry out himself, then wearily explained that he was able to give Rattrap better cover fire than the smaller Maximal could give him. Rattrap sheepishly realises Primal was right, and that at least they got out of the fight alive. Optimus said they sustained injuries and it would take time to repair the damage done. Bringing up the rear, Cheetor informed Optimus that he believed they had escaped the Predacons. Optimus Primal cautioned the young Maximal to keep his sensors on full, as the Golden Disk theft reports indicated there were six Predacons, but one was missing from the battle today. Rattrap theorised that perhaps he was destroyed in the crash, but Rhinox said that sort of luck hadn't been coming their way lately. As if to punctuate his point, Dinobot bars their way across the stone bridge to the ''Axalon''. Dinobot demanded their attention, stating who he was and that he had left the Predacons to join the Maximals, but as leader. He challenged Optimus Primal to a one-on-one battle, the winner shall lead the Maximals, but the loser shall be destroyed!

==Other Notes==
*Before they gain their beast modes, the Maximals and Predacons are shown mostly in shadow. This is probably to save the animators the trouble of coming up with entirely different models for each character. However, if one pays close attention, there are some marked differences to the facial areas shown, and Rattraps' arms are slightly different.

*As this was the first episode, the transformation/catchphrase sequences are rather overbearing by comparison to later episodes of the series.

*The Japanese version of the episode, titled "Enter the Super Robot Lifeform Transformers", has a slightly alternate opening. The episode begins with scrolling letters across an outer space backdrop, "Star Wars"-style, which explain the basics of the Transformers history (Cybertron, factions, energy plundering, etc).

===Animation and/or technical glitches===
* When Waspinator fights Cheetor, the stripes on his thighs are mapped in the wrong axis.

* As the Optimus, Rhinox and Rattrap ride out to give Cheetor support, Rhinox breaks through a 'roadblock' of boulders. However, in the previous shot of this location, the boulders were not present.

* When Rhinox picks up Rattrap and swings him around to face the Predacons, Rattrap's gun clips right through the boulder in front of them.

===Continuity Errors===

* Rhinox's trademark 'Chaingun of Doom' does not appear in this episode or in the following episode. During the battle with the Predacons, he uses Cheetor's discarded gun.
* Cheetor spends the longest time in the open while in robot mode, but does not suffer the effects of energon overload that the Predacons do.

===Transformers References===
* Optimus Primal mentions the Great War, which is was what the Transformers of the Beast era called the conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons.

===Real-World References===
*

===Miscellaneous trivia===

* Cheetor has the dual-honour of being the first character to appear in ''Beast Wars'', as well as the first character to fire a shot (unprovoked) at the enemy.
* During the scene where the Maximals reveal their new beast modes, it is not clear why they (bar Optimus Primal) had to rename themselves.
* Dinobot has the distinction of the first ''Beast Wars'' character to transform into robot mode.
* Waspinator fires pink eye lasers (similar to Dinobot's) during his battle with Cheetor.
* Rattrap is a serious asshole this early in the series.

A Maximal science vessel and a fugitive Predacon starship crash land on a mysterious, primitive world.

==Summary==

To be continued...
==Other Notes==

===Animation and/or technical glitches===

===Continuity Errors===

===Transformers References===
* Optimus Primal mentions the Great War, which is was what the Transformers of the Beast era called the conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons.

===Real-World References===
*

===Miscellaneous trivia===

==Summary==

[[Image:BWPart1_Predsopenfire.jpg|thumb|left|200px|]]

* Optimus Primal mentions the Great War, which is was what the Transformers of the Beast era called the conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons.
===Miscellaneous trivia===

[[Image:Dinobot2-postcard.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Braiiiiiiins... <small>honor...</small> braaaaaaaaaaaains...]]
A shambling, slavering Frankenstein monster of [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron's]] creation, '''Dinobot 2''' is an attempt to recreate the [[Maximal]] [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] without all that cumbersome honor. Powerful, vicious, and most importantly, loyal, Dinobot 2 is a living weapon to be aimed and released in the Maximals' direction.
====Beast Wars====
:''Voice actor:'' [[Scott McNeil]] (English), [[Keiji Fujiwara]] (Japanese)

Created by combining a [[protoform]], cloned cells from the original Dinobot, a part of [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage's]] [[spark]], and the energy from the [[Transmetal Driver]] Dinobot 2 became a fierce warrior for Megatron. Gifted with powerful abilities (instant healing and most of Dinobot's warrior skills) Dinobot 2 was used for hunting [[Maximal]]s like [[Depth Charge]] and [[Blackarachnia]]. Because he had a piece of Rampage's spark, a fact that sometimes confused Depth Charge's sensors, Dinobot 2 was able to squeeze it and keep the powerful transmetal in line.

His most important moments came at the very end of the Beast Wars. After Rampage was destroyed by Depth Charge, something happened to Dinobot 2. Somehow the memories of the original Dinobot flooded into his frame, and more importantly, Dinobot's code of honor came along with them. Unable to shake off these memories and what they signified, Dinobot 2 betrayed Megatron, and challenged Megatron's desire to destroy the protohuman village. More importantly, he sent information about an [[Autobot]] shuttle to the Maximals aboard the [[Ark]]. Dinobot 2's final rebellion was openly refusing to fire on the Maximal base. When a flabbergasted Megatron asked him what possible reason he could have for rebelling against his creator, he took a moment, before turning to look at the injured form of Optimus Primal, and announcing "And I, have my honor". Enraged, Megatron attacked him, throwing him into Primal just as Rhinox piloted the autobot shuttle straight into him. As Optimus made to escape he tried to get Dinobot 2 to follow, but the transmetal merely wished Primal well as the cockpit exploded around him, dying, like his predecessor, as a hero. Optimus would later quote a passage from the Covenant of Primus. "In spark of an enemy, there will be salvation, and in the darkness, there shall be a light".

:''('''Note''': The resurgence of the original Dinobot's memories in Dinobot 2 make more sense in the context of the unproduced episode of Beast Wars, "[[Dark Glass]]". In this episode Rattrap would have discovered and downloaded the memories into Dinobot 2, but the episode never made it past a first draft.)''
Dinobot 2 attacked [[Rattrap]], tearing him out of the crawler vehicle he was testing. Rattrap's attempts to reason with the remnants of his old friend failed, and the twisted clone prepared to toss him off a cliff. But before he could finish off the Maximal, [[Bonecrusher (BW)|Bonecrusher]] rammed him, sending both the clone and the crawler tumbling off the cliff.
