:''Chase is an [[Autobot]] in the [[Generation 1]] [[continuity family]].''

[[Image:Chase_g1_boxart.jpg|right|thumb|300px|[[Dreamwave]] would be proud.]]

As a warrior, '''Chase'''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s only outstanding asset is his staunch courage, but it's his attitude that earns him his many friends in the [[Autobot]] ranks. Yes, he's a motormouthed braggart and rather full of himself, but his storytelling skills are so fantastic that few mind when he monopolizes the conversation. Combine that ability with the enthusiastic, superficial friendliness and charisma of a talented politician and it's no wonder Chase is well liked, despite his flaws.

Many of Chase's missions are rather routine; radar is his specialty. He can detect objects as small as [[Toaster (G1)|toaster]] on the horizon, and see a tennis ball two miles away -- three, in fact, at the same time, in three different directions. He seldom needs to engage the enemy closely, but even the least dangerous 'milk run' comes alive with purpose and excitement when Chase is telling its story.

Impulsive and quick-thinking, Chase's 240 mph top speed often places him far ahead of his comrades on his scouting missions, and frequently he's the first to roar down a promising byway, heedless of possible ambush or hazards. Sometimes this leads him into trouble. Most often this trouble is mechanical; Chase's body, especially his drivetrain, just isn't engineered to keep up with his mind.
Point out that he's not really all that funny, and he'll do you even worse, insult your heritage, make scandalous suggestions about your progenitor, and claim you have no sense of humor and are, in fact, a wussy.
:''The Grand Mal is a space ship in the [[Beast Machines]] portion of the [[Generation 1]]/[[Beast Era]] [[continuity family]].''

[[image: BFH.jpg|right|thumbnail|250px|Dave, will I dream?]]

The '''Grand Mal''' is the vessel [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] inhabited during the second season of [[Beast Machines]]. It could change between being an immense aircraft (only seen once through the whole series) and, well, a '''big floating head''' (bearing a resemblance to Megatron's own head).

:''Japanese name:'' '''Megahead'''

==Fiction==
===Beast Machines cartoon===

Megatron had been working at length to purge his body of its biomechanical elements. In the midst of a cataclysmic confrontation with Optimus Primal, he apparently succeeded, splitting his organic components off into a separate entity (the purely biological [[Noble/Savage]]). His [[Spark]], however, remained with the Noble/Savage portion, while his original robot form was destroyed by the combined forces that he and Primal had been unleashing.

Shortly afterwards, the Maximals encountered the Grand Mal, a giant version of Megatron's own head drifting empty, unmanned and lifeless above Cybertron; which [[Rattrap]] referred to as "...a sparkless floating tribute to [[Unicron]]". Apparently Megatron had been constructing it for some time in secret (schematics of it can be seen in the episode "Forbidden Fruit"), but was unable to reach it before the destruction of his original body. Some time later, with the unwitting help of the Maximals, "Noble" was eventually able to re-enter his citadel, where he transferred his Spark into the Grand Mal. The vessel served Megatron's body for much of the series' second season.

Inside the big floating head, Megatron often manifested himself as a slightly smaller floating [[hologram|holographic head]] composed of [[Cybertronian languages|Cybertronian symbols]].

[[Image:big-floating-head-green.jpg|right|thumb|250px|The machinations of [[Vector Sigma|the Oracle]] have succeeded in creating the largest Chia Pet in the universe.]]
Some time later, Megatron's Spark emerged from the Grand Mal while consuming the collective Sparks of Cybertron's population, an act which left him vulnerable to an attack by Nightscream. Nightscream's sonic blast left Megatron's Spark "depolarized", wandering madly about Cybertron without a body for a time. The Maximals occupied the empty Grand Mal and used it as their base, defending the captured Sparks of Cybertron's population that it contained.

In a subsequent battle, Megatron's Vehicons shot down the Grand Mal, which crashed on top of the [[Council Citadel]] and was the site of the final battle between the Vehicons and Primal's team of Maximals. After the reformatting of Cybertron, its form remained visible, though covered with technorganic greenery.

''Note: The Grand Mal was not named in the [[Beast Machines (cartoon)|Beast Machines television series]]. The name comes from scripts and the short story [[Singularity Ablyss]] by series writer [[Bob Skir]].
The label 'brat punk' isn't completely inaccurate. '''Rumble''' is your basic street punk. Small, but always acting tough as a cover. Not exactly the most subtle of [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]]'s [[Mini-Cassette|spies]], but what he lacks in descretion, he compensates by being the brawler of the group. Quick tempered and of a generally mean disposition, he follows [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] eagerly. Rumble has a tendency to toss out a taunting rhyme at his enemies and is, according to [[Brawn]], a "jerk".

As the Decepticon demolitions expert, Rumble loves nothing more than to break things apart. His arms can transform into powerful piledrivers that, when pounded against the ground, can cause earthquakes, usually with fissures. He can be easily overpowered in a one-on-one match, though the real challenge, however, is actually getting to him first.
''(Events in italics occur in UK-only stories.)''

Rumble's achievements in the comic amounted to not being able to see humans because they were too small, and getting his chassis handed to him by [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]]. It took him a very long time to get better.

===Animated continuity===
[[Image:Rumble.jpg|thumb|left|210px|Look! I'm [[FIBRIR|blue]]!]]
:''Voice Actor:'' [[Frank Welker]] (English), [[Keiichi Nanba]] (Japanese -- See note below.)

Rumble was one of the original Decepticon raiding party that crashed into Earth four million years ago aboard the [[Ark]]. Reawakened in 1984, he was reformatted into an audio cassette that fit snugly into Soundwave's chest compartment. Despite his small size (he was usually shown to be about the height of a tall human), he seemed to be on equal footing with most other Decepticons. No doubt this was due to his seismic power, which was used quite often (including once by [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] [[Heavy Metal War|when he had borrowed]] Rumble's [[power chip rectifier]]). Even without the use of his seismic attacks, Rumble would often go head to head with full sized Autobots, even having a (short-lived, at least) rivalry with the Autobot [[Hound (G1)|Hound]]. A common Decepticon tactic was to use Rumble to use his earth-shaking abilities to agitate hydroelectric power sources, as the Decepticons did at [[Sherman Dam]] and [[Great Falls]].

Assisted by his diminutive stature, Rumble was also responsible for stealing some of the cars that would later become the [[Stunticon|Stunticons]].

Rumble was effectively doubled by his bodytype-brother [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]]. Both had identical voices, personalities and abilities, though Rumble appeared alone more often than not.

''Fairly prominent in Seasons One and Two, his appearances dwindled after the start of Season Three.''

''(In the Japanese dub, the lesser-seen red Decepticon cassette, [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]], was indicated to be Rumble to more accurately reflect his toy colors.)''
: Rumble was part of the first wave of Transformers toys releaed in 1984. Using the same mold as a Microchange Microcassette Robo Micro, he was packaged with [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]] by Hasbro in 1984-1986, and with [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] by Takara from 1985-1986, and by himself in 1987.

===Generation 2 (unreleased)===
* "Rumble"
: Part of the canceled 4th wave of [[Go-Bots]], Rumble would have been either a pizza delivery car or a race car with a pizza-oriented sponsor. Although he was never officially named in any known documents, his name is on the front bumper.
:This mold was redecoed into RID [[Side Swipe (RID)]] and ''[[Universe]]'' [[Bluestreak|Silverstreak]].

===Alternators===
* '''Rumble''' (Alternator, 2006)
:''Alternator ID number:'' '''24''' (misprint, should be 25)

[[Image:AltRumble.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Nothing says "rebellious" like a Honda Civic!]]

: For ''[[Alternators]]'', Rumble transforms into a 1:24-scale licensed 2006 Honda Civic Si, with opening doors, hood, etc. Additionally, instead of traditional hands, Rumble features spring-loaded piledrivers that release from his arms. Accessories include two back-mounted weapons, one of which doubles as his engine in car mode and the other which fits into his trunk.

:Originally intended for normal retail release in the US, he and wave-mate [[Ravage]] got relegated to being Wal-Mart [[exclusive]]s, released in late March of 2007. Both were available at normal retail in various European markets. He and Ravage are notable for being the first Decepticon Alternators to be entirely new molds, rather than an Autobot mold reworked to be someone else. They are also notable for being the final ''Alternators'' toys to be sold at retail.

: Rumble's seats are mis-assembled, keeping them from reclining completely in car mode. To fix this, unscrew each seat from the bottom of the car, swap them, and then rescrew.

==Trivia==

*On the G1 TV series, Rumble was represented with the colors of [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]]'s toy - that is, dark and medium blue, rather than red and black (and vice versa). This led to some confusion (and later, controversy) amongst fans. (See [[RIBFIR]].)
* In recent years, toys sporting the name "Rumble" require an additional "Decepticon" prefix for [[trademark]] reasons, hence making the official name "'''Decepticon Rumble'''".
===Beast Machines cartoon===

::I see no point to having those, either. --[[User:KilMichaelMcC|KilMichaelMcC]] 07:20, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

:::JaAm has a page. 'Ruined Forever' is used ironically within the fandom- and this is clearly marked as a fandom article just like [[True fan]] is. Ruined Forever is clearly more prominent than [[Dull surprise]], though possibly not as widely as [[Neon]]. (Which now that I look at it need its opening quote reformatted...) My entire impetus for creating it was that Sntint made an ironic Ruined Forever joke on a talk page and I was like- "huh, why dont' we have a page for that?" (Well, also I wanted to wash the bad tast of [[Don Murray]] out of my brain.)
:::Ruined Forever appears to rest comfortably within the range of existing articles on the Wiki, but I am content to allow others to decide. If a majority think it's not relevant to Transformers the article can be deleted, as always. -[[User:Derik|Derik]] 07:37, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
::::I say it's as relevant as Playskool, neon, and FIRRIB. {{unsigned|Terrocon Blot}}
:::::And Derik on the rebound to make me feel dumber. It's not enough that I misspelled my own screenname, he's also got to sign my posts for me. Damn that Derik. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWN. --[[User:Terrocon Blot|Terrocon Blot]] 07:49, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

I vote for keeping the page. As already stated, a number of other pages already exist to explain similar fandom colloquialisms. --[[User:Sntint|Sntint]] 13:20, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

:I don't see this article as explaining anything. It seems to exist purely to ridicule fandom behavior that we don't like, and thus I see no point to keeping it. --[[User:KilMichaelMcC|KilMichaelMcC]] 19:35, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

I think it needs to stay too. Where else would terms like ''Ruined FOREVER'', [[Furmanism]], and [[Chewed caramels]] be documented for all time, if not here?--[[User:Evil-yuusha|Evil-yuusha]] 14:59, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

:Do these fandom terms need to be ones that are famous/infamous, known or used widely? Then how about TFW2005's 'HE TELL ME' (in reference to that guy who claimed Peter Cullen was cast as RID Prime)? TFW2005 is probably the most prominent of the Transformers fan sites, as well as the one that Hasbro seems to unofficially prefer. I personally never even heard of 'dull surprise' until I read it on this wiki. --[[User:FFN|FFN]] 20:49, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
::Nor I. But I don't think we're just documenting memes-- each of these articles, Truk !Munky, Chewed caramels even JaAm are 'about' a belief/response/tendency in fandom- not just the phrase used to illustrate it. Dull Surprise is a belief the masturbatory praise heaped on Superstar Funana was undeserved, JaAm is about the backlash against Dreamwave's style-over-sanity lack of visual storytelling, Truk not Monkey encompasses both knee-jerk hatred of BW and frustration about knee-jerks, and Chewed caramels ''seems'' to be about a desire that all TF toylines subscribe to some broad interpretation of G1's design aesthetic. I doubt anyone put ''conscious thought'' into this, but the fandom-meme articles people found worthy of creating aren't ''just'' about the phrase- they're about phrases that expresses something larger about how fans relate to Transformers.

:::Personally, I think dull surprise is way too limited in use (basically just #wiigii! as far as I know) to really belong here, but Derik does sort of have a point about the article being about a little more than that. I also don't know "HE TELL ME" but it sounds like something worth considering -- claims of unnamed inside sources and all that. --[[User:Steve-o|Steve-o]] 01:27, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

::::Actually, Steve-o, I'd say "Secret Inside Sources" would be a more appropriate meme/article to describe that last one. ==Usage==
Has "ruined forever" ever been used seriously by fans? While it describes a real and annoying sentiment, I'm not sure I like basing an article on a phrase that was sarcastic in the first place. [[User:Interrobang|Interrobang]] 18:26, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
(And, clearly, been wrong every time, or every time but 1 depending on your belief system.)
:If you have some other title you'd prefer for this article like 'Clicken-Little Syndrome' by all means propose it and see what people think, but the article speaks to a genuine (and highly mockable) aspect of fandom psychology.
:And frankly, while the ''behavior'' itself is worthy of ridicule, the ''reason'' for it- an exaggerated concern for the health and future of the brand- is actually kinda ''endearing'' and speaks well of fans. I think accusing the fandom of saying the art style of Paul Dini ''the writer'' being used for Animated will "RUIN TRANSFORMERS FOREVER" is making the article simply too mean-spirited. While I fully support the light tone of Teletraan I, and I understand that some explanation of aspects of the fandom complete the Wiki, I believe this particular article and debate at this point only detracts from the issue.

I DO agree that it was biased in the form in which it existed before our anonymous editor "friend" decided to change it, but I do not think that matters any longer. This article does not add anything inherently positive to the wiki, indeed, it does not chronicle anything positive ''or'' negative about Transformers itself at all. Its relation to Transformers is tangential at best.
I happen to think this article is incredibly useful in charting the tendency for all fans everywhere (but especially TF fans) to react in comical and hyperbolic ways. I think the breadth of what people determine can/has ruined TF forever automatically makes the article an amusing and insightful look for the novice fan into the fandom's reactionary past.
Indeed, I actually have shown this article to people just coming back (or getting into) TF. How do we stop this from becoming just a giant list of everything that anyone has ever expressed any dislike for ever? Why, for instance, is ''The Beast Within'' in there? Or Gonzo (which I thought was generally accepted as at least ''better'' than We've, even if not as good at Mainframe)? - [[User:Jackpot|Jackpot]] 18:34, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
:I've sorta resolved to edit the list down this October, pruning it (so to speak) with some opportunity for people to say what should stay and what should go.
:The Beast Within has to stay though- at the ''very'' least it ruined the Dinobots forever- now whenever George Rodd brings up combiner Dinobots we have to grudgingly admit they're canon.
'''Real Gear Robot''' is a catchall term for [[Earth]] machinery brought to life as [[Transformers]] by the [[All Spark]] in [[Movie (franchise)|the movie continuity family]]. The term originates with the "Real Gear Robots" sub-line of [[Movie (toyline)|Movie toys]], which features Transformers created from real earthen consumer electronics brought to life in this manner and defines itself with the quote given above.

For lack of a better alternative, '''{{SITENAME}}''' is currently using the same term to refer to the numerous other non-toyline robots created in this manner, which appeared in the film itself and in ancillary materials and promotions. This is not an official or even widespread usage, but they fit the description given above, even if it's hard to consider a car "gear". {{SITENAME}} considers this terminology ''temporary'' until another term is found or agreed upon.
===Fiction===
Though the ''Real Gear Robots'' toys were released (presumably as part of the [[Hungry Dragon]] counter-information campaign) to expand on the brief appearance of similar robots in the movie, many Real Gear Robots appear to predate the March 16 2006 cessation of [[Sector Seven]]'s experiments on the [[All Spark]].<ref>[[Spy Shot 6]] has already spent "years" spying on the Decepticons as of 2007, according to his toy bio. Experimentation on the Allspark ceased on March 16 2006 after the death of researcher [[James Farr]].</ref> It is unclear if they were deliberately created by [[Sector Seven]] before this and escaped, or perhaps were an unintended result of the Allspark's "area-effect."

==Living machines==
The All Spark cube can emit radiation that spontaneously brings to life machinery and electronics which are exposed to it. It does not do so continuously, but agents working for Sector Seven eventually learned to activate and even channel these pulses of radiation in their base under [[Hoover Dam]]. The cube also emitted a pulse when dropped by [[Sam Witwicky]] as he fled from [[Decepticon]]s in [[Mission City]].

Transformers which have just been created from Earth machines by the All Spark appear to be almost mindless; alive but without concept of the world-- and often feral. Judging from what we know about some of these robots (see "Toyline" section above) it appears that they ''can'' have full sentience. It is unknown what causes this difference. (See "Personalities", below.)

===Known Real Gear Robots===
* [[Steering Wheel Robot]]

===Possible Real Gear Robots===
These Transformers seem to be likely candidates, but their actual origins remain unknown:
* [[Dewbot]]
* [[Chevy Autobot|Chevy Autobot]]s<ref>[[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee's]] mission on Earth was to ''recruit'' the pre-existent Chevy Autobots.</ref>
* [[Toaster (Movie)|Toaster]]

===Not Real Gear Robots===
Sometimes thought to be Earth-born, the following Transformers are known to have alien origins (the drones arrive on Earth in "cometary" [[transition form]]), and therefore were not animated by the All Spark on Earth:
* [[Longarm (Movie)|Longarm]]
* [[Dropkick]]
* [[Dreadwing (Movie)|Dreadwing]]
* [[Swindle (Movie)|Swindle]]
* [[Mixmaster (Movie)|Mixmaster]]
* [[Payload (Movie)|Payload]]
* [[Scrapper (Movie)|Scrapper]]

==Personalities==
All the Real Gear Robots in the 2007 film appear to be evil little beasts. Screenwriter [[Roberto Orci]] has offered some potential explanations for this both at BotCon 2007 and on the official movie forum, but as usual is careful not to make any declarations. Orci wrote in response to one fan's query, "It is meant to power Cybertron, not adapt human technology. Also, since all earth's tech is reverse engineered from Megatron, maybe that affects the outcome, too."[http://boards.transformersmovie.com/showpost.php?p=387031&postcount=170] He also wrote, "Prime intended to use the Allspark to repower Cybertron as it was intended. Megatron wants to abuse it by creating Transformers directly, which makes souless, primal Transformers."[http://boards.transformersmovie.com/showpost.php?p=384935&postcount=29]

Both of these statements contain plausible explanations for the violence and hostility observed in the behavior of the robots in the film itself, but they do not make allowances for the fully-developed personas observed in the ''Real Gear Robots'' toyline and other supporting material. A possible solution is that these may take place in different continuities than the film itself, such that the All Spark may operate a bit differently. Alternatively, it could be that -- given enough time -- an Earth machine animated by the All Spark might eventually develop consciousness. Or, perhaps not all robots are created equal. It could simply be that, while most are feral, some are not.

A final explanation can be taken from a mission in ''[[Transformers: The Game|Transformers: Autobots]]''. When the Autobots attempt to retrieve the All Spark, it produces drones from the local machinery to defend itself. As such, the All Spark-created transformers may have been feral as survival mechanism.
==Trivia==
*The '''Real Gear Robots''' toyline is the long-in-coming return of "mechanical device" transformers along the lines of the original [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] and [[Reflector]], whose [[alt mode]]s are all common hand-held electric devices.

*The Real Gear Robots toys were created at [[Hasbro]] in line with the designs of the [[Cybertron (franchise)|''Cybertron'']] franchise that ran through 2005 into the first half of 2006. Their release was held back, and this resulted in serendipity with the [[Movie (franchise)|Movie]] marketing blitz, since cell phones and other electronic devices become Transformers in the film.<ref>Hasbro representative, [[BotCon 2007]].</ref>

*None of the Real Gear Robots that appeared in the movie were in the leaked script except the XBOX 360 robot. The ones in the film were a Nokia phone, a Mountain Dew vending machine, a steering wheel and an XBOX 360. In the script, they were an iPod, devices in a truck and plasma televisions.
