The Transformers: Devastation is a 6-issue comic-book mini-series published by IDW Publishing in 2007/2008, and set in the main IDW continuity. It directly follows The Transformers: Escalation, and ramps up the action even further for the Generation 1 Transformers. As the Autobots discover that the humans are aware of the location of their base, Megatron summons Sixshot to Earth to hasten its... well, devastation!

Overview
After discovering that their position has been compromised, the Autobots plan to move the Ark-19 to the Gulf of Mexico. Unfortunately they are intercepted by Sixshot, who has been ordered by Megatron to terminate the Autobots. Sixshot disables the Ark-19 and the Autobots are forced to make a crash landing into the closest shoreline, ejecting an escape pod containing Ratchet, Verity and Jimmy. The ship's data is sent to the Ark-32 before it self-destructs in the ocean. Sixshot is convinced that the Autobots are destroyed and tracks Ratchet to finish his task. After chasing him around a bit to the ocean's edge, he's about deliver the final blow when the other Autobots emerge and give him battle. Nightbeat manages to bounce the Autobots back to the Ark-32 before they are destroyed by an air attack. Sixshot leaves to deal with trouble at Decepticon headquarters.

Meanwhile, the other Decepticons are upset that Megatron has ruined their efforts at infiltration by bringing in Sixshot, so Astrotrain and Blitzwing awaken Starscream, who is being repaired in a CR chamber after being blasted by Megatron in Infiltration. Starscream awakens as the Reapers attack and rejoins the Decepticon cause, though he still has his own agenda. When the Reapers try to recruit Sixshot as before, he refuses until his rival Starscream taunts him. As he moves to attack, Starscream utters Sixshot's shutdown code, causing him to crash.

Prior to the attack on the Ark-19, Hot Rod and Wheeljack embarked on a mission to rescue Ironhide, who was seriously injured in an explosion. Escalation issue 6 On route, they are forced to deal with a gang of Sunstreaker clones whom they discover are actually Headmasters, controlled by the Machination. At the Machination's headquarters, Hunter, a Headmaster himself, sneaks around and discovers the real Sunstreaker's detached head. Although initially wishing to die, Sunstreaker agrees to help Hunter fully become a Headmaster so he can help the Autobots. They complete the process just in time to avoid destruction by the Machination's leader Scorponok, now a Headmaster himself with the help of Mister Dante. Hunter/Sunstreaker escape the facility.

Two sinister external forces have their eyes on Earth. The Reapers have been observing since their encounter with Sixshot and determine that Earth must be destroyed. They start with Decepticon headquarters. Observing this from the Dead Universe is Nemesis Prime (the former Nova Prime) and Jhiaxus who have plans for Earth and send Galvatron to bring things under control. He does by making the lead Reaper destroy his brethren, thinning out the lot until the Decepticons get the edge to finish the job. The Battlechargers are casualties, and the Decepticons now have to deal with the human military.

Meanwhile, Skywatch has reprogrammed Ravage and Laserbeak with plans to use them to track down the other Transformers. Their efforts are hampered by Soundwave, who recently came back online. They plan to activate Grimlock instead.

Upon urging from Sideswipe, Optimus Prime agrees for Hound's unit travel to Earth and assigns Jetfire to supervise the decommissioning of Bludgeon's base. Later however, an incident on Garrus-9 Spotlight: Arcee requires Prime's team to evacuate the Earth and also divert Hound's team to deal with the crisis.

Creative team
The creative team from Infiltration and Escalation (writer Simon Furman and penciller E. J. Su) reunited for the bulk of Devastation. However Su's paternity leave meant he was unable to pencil the entire arc. Nick Roche took over for issue 3, with Robby Musso working on issue 4. Su returned for issues 5 and 6.
Overview
The story centers on two plot threads: the activities of the human group known as the Machination, and the Decepticons' attempts to exploit the Ore-13 energon discovered by Starscream in the previous series. The Machination kidnaps Sunstreaker, and Ratchet and Ironhide violate orders to try and find him. The Earth-bound operations of the Autobots and Decepticons come into direct and open conflict as the Decepticons initiate Phase Two and the Autobots attempt to counter it, with Megatron and Optimus Prime going toe to toe in battle. What was, not so long ago, just another skirmish in the cold war between the two alien forces heats up very rapidly.
Overview
Stormbringer gives readers their first look at the larger war beyond Earth. Cybertron is a dead, wasted world, victim of some distant cataclysm that elder Transformers, including Optimus Prime and Megatron, were present at. Prime's musings establish that the long war between the Autobots and Decepticons was directly responsible for the cataclysm, and in flashback we discover that a single demonic figure was somehow the focus for or avatar of the event; this being was so powerful that only the combined might of the Autobots and Decepticons could stop it.

Both Autobots and Decepticons appear to have large, star-spanning armies. Similar Decepticon infiltration cells to the one portrayed in Infiltration are seen on the planets Nebulos and Varas Centralus. The Autobots' main base is a space station orbiting a planet at least nineteen megacycles away from Cybertron via foldspace travel, and they possess at least one space battlecruiser, the Xantium.

Creative team
Stormbringer was scripted by Transformer veteran Simon Furman and penciled by Don Figueroam-the pair also worked together on Dreamwave Productions' The War Within and IDW's Beast Wars: The Gathering.
The series brings the Transformers' presence on Earth into the present day and places the "robots in disguise" concept firmly in the forefront of its narrative.
__TOC__
<br clear="all">
Overview
The most immediate shift from original continuity is the nature of the Transformers' presence on Earth. In this continuity, there was no ancient starship crash, nor robots awakening from a four million-year slumber; the Autobots and Decepticons have arrived on Earth fairly recently and on purpose, operating undercover for at least four years. The story is told through the eyes of four main characters: Verity Carlo, a young drifter; Hunter O'Nion, a conspiracy theorist; Jimmy Pink, mechanic and Verity's net-friend; and Ratchet, a medic who puts his conscience over his mission.

The series quickly and consistently establishes a strong Cold War, cloak-and-dagger theme, where secrecy and rules of espionage are as important as, or perhaps even more than, vanquishing the enemy. Thundercracker and the Battlechargers attack the humans and Ratchet to retrieve data on a palmtop PC that might reveal their existence; Ratchet is arrested by Prowl for breaking cover to rescue the humans; both Autobot and Decepticon operations are small cells instead of full-fledged armies. Also, a third faction is at work: a secret human organization known only as the Machination which appears to be aware of the Transformers' presence on Earth and has its own plans, as yet unknown, for the robots. Finally, it becomes evident to the Autobots that the Decepticon operation is up to something unusual, and their new human allies may have a part in unraveling the mystery.

The series has taken an interesting and rather unique approach to the standard Transformers story: introducing only a few new characters with each issue. This enables each issue to focus on a small selection of leads (Ratchet, the humans and later Bumblebee) without overwhelming them and gives each issue space to explore their characters.

The series culminates in a battle between Starscream, who leads the Decepticons on Earth, and the recently arrived Megatron attempting to put his house in order. Their animosity seems to be a constant in any Transformers continuity!

Creative team
Infiltration was scripted by long-time Transformer writer Simon Furman and penciled by E. J. Su. The two also worked together on multiple follow-up miniseries including The Transformers: Escalation and The Transformers: Devastation.
The Transformers: Revelation is the follow-up miniseries to IDW Publishing's The Transformers: Devastation. It has been revealed that in June, 2008, Revelation series will be played out through four Spotlight format issues, focusing on Cyclonus, Hardhead, Sideswipe and Doubledealer. This four-parter will mark the Autobots' confrontation with the Dead Universe Cybertronians and the end of the "-tion" series "for the foreseeable". It had previously been hinted that the following volume would be titled The Transformers: Expansion, but writer Simon Furman now states that "the stuff [he] had (mentally) prepared for Expansion may still happen, just later or in a different form. IDW solicitations have confirmed that these four Spotlight issues will be in addition to the normal Spotlight series, with the first issue arriving the same month as Spotlight: Wheelie.

The four Spotlights will be issues #23–26 in the IDW overarching "sub-numbering", the only Spotlights to be incorporated in this way.
Creative team
The creative team from Infiltration, Escalation and through Devastation (writer Simon Furman and penciller E. J. Su) will again work on Revelation, though Su will only illustrate the first and fourth issues and provide a connecting cover for all four. Nick Roche, who is also doing a cover for each issue, will also pencil at least one of the issues.

Trivia
* IDW Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall made the decision to tie up the -ation run short here, explaining it as a basic business strategy for comics: "it's like any book on the market--sales start at a point and then they slowly dip until things are done to re-invigorate them... the reality is that sales numbers need to stay steady for a book to stay on the market. This isn't to say that things were by any means dire--they weren't at all--but we do need to occasionally mix things up so people don't just take a book for granted."

* Revelation will be the third IDW miniseries in a row that borrows a title from Dreamwave Productions' The War Within: The Dark Ages series.
