He's always on the lookout for even the smallest and most trivial of mistakes; these can be an opening for him to unleash a torrent of pointed, mocking abuse. Freeway is convinced that he's absolutely hilarious. ===Marvel Comics continuity===

Thanks to a Decepticon [[Titanium-class Destruction Drone]], Freeway and his fellow Throttlebots are captured and brought to the Chief Decepticon Fuel Auditor [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]]. An outbreak of [[Scraplets]] had begun on [[Earth]], and Ratbat ordered them to travel there and destroy all of the infected -- or he would destroy the planet itself to prevent spread of the deadly disease. Given new Earth-style vehicle forms and canisters of corrosive acid, Freeway and the others arrive on Earth and soon find [[Bumblebee (G1)|Goldbug]] in the death throes of a Scraplets infection. They attempted to destroy him, but during the skirmish, Goldbug's human friend [[Charley Fong]] discovered a cure for Scraplets, the "rare chemical" [[water]]. With this knowledge, they managed to destroy all the Scraplets with help from [[G.B. Blackrock]]. {{Storylink|The Cure!}}

Freeway and the Throttlebots continued to travel on Earth with Goldbug and Blaster, but that only made them targets for virtually everyone -- the Decepticons, the Autobot faction Goldbug had gone AWOL from, and the humans who hated and feared all Cybertronians. After escaping one of the Combaticons, Goldbug suggested they hide in a used car lot (because that [[Plight of the Bumblebee!|worked so well for him before]]). Astonishingly the owner, [["Big Steve" Ludwig]], noticed a giant earthmover dump truck magically appearing on his lot, and soon put two-and-two together after receiving a notice from the local RAAT boys. After pouring sugar into the Autobots' gas tanks, he summoned the proper authorities. Freeway and the Throttlebots were carted off and taken prisoner by RAAT's parent organization, [[III]]. {{Storylink|Used Autobots}}

Still not recognizing the difference between Autobots and Decepticons, III's bigwigs publically threatened to execute their prisoners if any more robot attacks took place. Guess what -- the Decepticons were willing to call their bluff. After the inevitable raid, [[Forrest Forsythe]] ordered the Autobots crushed into cubes. However, a sympathetic (and borderline competent) agent named [[Walter Barnett]] realized Freeway and his friends were telling the truth about there being two factions of robots, and salvaged their cerebro-circuits before the execution, transferring their brain chips into electronic toy cars. {{Storylink|Toy Soldiers!}} Freeway and the Throttlebots remained in Barnett's possession for some time, but were apparently returned to the Autobots at some point behind the scenes. When defending Autobot city on earth from the Decepticons, Freeway learned that [[Snapdragon]] would not back off. Instead, and with some help from Snapdragon, Freeway had to back off, all the way into a wall. Loosing a wheel in the process, we have no reall idea of how serious an injury that is, but as he's seen fighting along side his fellow autobots just a while later, in car-mode, we can probably rule out that it was repaired. {{Storylink|The Rebirth, Part 1}}
A member of the [[Throttlebots]]. As a warrior, '''Chase'''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s only outstanding asset is his staunch courage, but it's his attitude that earns him his many friends in the [[Autobot]] ranks. Yes, he's a motormouthed braggart and rather full of himself, but his storytelling skills are so fantastic that few mind when he monopolizes the conversation. Combine that ability with the enthusiastic, superficial friendliness and charisma of a talented politician and it's no wonder Chase is well liked, despite his flaws.

Many of Chase's missions are rather routine; radar is his specialty. He can detect objects as small as [[Toaster (G1)|toaster]] on the horizon, and see a tennis ball two miles away -- three, in fact, at the same time, in three different directions. He seldom needs to engage the enemy closely, but even the least dangerous 'milk run' comes alive with purpose and excitement when Chase is telling its story.

Impulsive and quick-thinking, Chase's 240 mph top speed often places him far ahead of his comrades on his scouting missions, and frequently he's the first to roar down a promising byway, heedless of possible ambush or hazards. Sometimes this leads him into trouble. Most often this trouble is mechanical; Chase's body, especially his drivetrain, just isn't engineered to keep up with his mind.
: In 1992, Chase and the other Throttlebots were re-released in the European market as part of the "[[Classics (Euro)|Classics]]" line. For this release, all of the Throttlebots but [[Wideload (G1)|Wideload]] were [[retool]]ed to have their [[rubsign]] indents removed, the decals replaced with normal factory-applied paper faction sigil decals.
'''Searchlight''' is a quiet and withdrawn member of the [[Throttlebots]]. A silent spy, he is most at home in the blackest night, not because of what the darkness covers, but for what it reveals. When he cruises through darkened cities or over deserted plains, he has no need to switch on his two 10,000 watt driving lamps: his front-mounted sensor array brings him a subtle panorama that the daylight only overwhelms in its fiery radiance. Searchlight sees all, be it in the dimmest spark of visible light, or in the infrared spectrum, or elsewhere in the realm of electromagnetic radiation. His X-ray capacity lets him look through objects, and his spectroscope allows him to analyze their composition. All of this he can record in stereoscopic, digital video. This amazing array even gives him some offensive capacity; he can blind foes with a dazzling, stroboscopic flash from his driving lamps, but this is painful and disorienting to his well-tuned optics.

So fascinating are the secrets which the nighttime world reveals to Searchlight that he often loses track of his assigned mission. A further drawback of working alone comes from his very best quality; his keen senses. A slight sound or movement, if made by something undetectable by his trained sensors, can make him anxious, and eventually send him into a panic. Therefore, though he is serious-minded and works best alone, his superiors must sometimes check on him.
Everyone thinks he's [[Chase]].

Thanks to a Decepticon [[Titanium-class Destruction Drone]], Searchlight and his fellow Throttlebots are captured and brought to the Chief Decepticon Fuel Auditor [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]]. An outbreak of [[Scraplets]] had begun on [[Earth]], and Ratbat ordered them to travel there and destroy all of the infected -- or he would destroy the planet itself to prevent spread of the deadly disease. Given new Earth-style vehicle forms and canisters of corrosive acid, Searchlight and the others arrive on Earth and soon find [[Bumblebee (G1)|Goldbug]] in the death throes of a Scraplets infection. They attempted to destroy him, but during the skirmish, Goldbug's human friend [[Charley Fong]] discovered a cure for Scraplets, the "rare chemical" [[water]]. With this knowledge, they managed to destroy all the Scraplets with help from [[G.B. Blackrock]]. {{Storylink|The Cure!}}

Searchlight and the Throttlebots continued to travel on Earth with Goldbug and Blaster, but that only made them targets for virtually everyone -- the Decepticons, the Autobot faction Goldbug had gone AWOL from, and the humans who hated and feared all Cybertronians. After escaping one of the Combaticons, Goldbug suggested they hide in a used car lot (because that [[Plight of the Bumblebee!|worked so well for him before]]). Astonishingly the owner, [["Big Steve" Ludwig]], noticed a giant earthmover dump truck magically appearing on his lot, and soon put two-and-two together after receiving a notice from the local RAAT boys. After pouring sugar into the Autobots' gas tanks, he summoned the proper authorities. Searchlight and the Throttlebots were carted off and taken prisoner by RAAT's parent organization, [[III]]. {{Storylink|Used Autobots}}

Still not recognizing the difference between Autobots and Decepticons, III's bigwigs publically threatened to execute their prisoners if any more robot attacks took place. Guess what -- the Decepticons were willing to call their bluff. After the inevitable raid, [[Forrest Forsythe]] ordered the Autobots crushed into cubes. However, a sympathetic (and borderline competent) agent named [[Walter Barnett]] realized Searchlight and his friends were telling the truth about there being two factions of robots, and salvaged their cerebro-circuits before the execution, transferring their brain chips into electronic toy cars. {{Storylink|Toy Soldiers!}} Searchlight and the Throttlebots remained in Barnett's possession for some time, but were apparently returned to the Autobots at some point behind the scenes.

Everyone thinks Searchlight is him.

Thanks to a Decepticon [[Titanium-class Destruction Drone]], Chase and his fellow Throttlebots are captured and brought to the Chief Decepticon Fuel Auditor [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]]. An outbreak of [[Scraplets]] had begun on [[Earth]], and Ratbat ordered them to travel there and destroy all of the infected -- or he would destroy the planet itself to prevent spread of the deadly disease. Given new Earth-style vehicle forms and canisters of corrosive acid, Chase and the others arrive on Earth and soon find [[Bumblebee (G1)|Goldbug]] in the death throes of a Scraplets infection. They attempted to destroy him, but during the skirmish, Goldbug's human friend [[Charley Fong]] discovered a cure for Scraplets, the "rare chemical" [[water]]. With this knowledge, they managed to destroy all the Scraplets with help from [[G.B. Blackrock]]. {{Storylink|The Cure!}}

Chase and the Throttlebots continued to travel on Earth with Goldbug and Blaster, but that only made them targets for virtually everyone -- the Decepticons, the Autobot faction Goldbug had gone AWOL from, and the humans who hated and feared all Cybertronians. After escaping one of the Combaticons, Goldbug suggested they hide in a used car lot (because that [[Plight of the Bumblebee!|worked so well for him before]]). Astonishingly the owner, [["Big Steve" Ludwig]], noticed a giant earthmover dump truck magically appearing on his lot, and soon put two-and-two together after receiving a notice from the local RAAT boys. After pouring sugar into the Autobots' gas tanks, he summoned the proper authorities. Chase and the Throttlebots were carted off and taken prisoner by RAAT's parent organization, [[III]]. {{Storylink|Used Autobots}}

Still not recognizing the difference between Autobots and Decepticons, III's bigwigs publically threatened to execute their prisoners if any more robot attacks took place. Within the limits of his design, he's capable of duplicating the flight patterns of anything he sees. His knowledge of aerial warfare and tactics is unmatched. ''Flywheels first appeared in a brief battle against [[Ultra Magnus]] and the [[Sparkabots]]. He was knocked out of the air by Ultra Magnus and was captured by the [[Autobots]]. As a prisoner he was soon forced to fight with his captors against a horde of zombie Transformers in [[Kalis]] let loose by [[Flame]]. Disobeying Ultra Magnus' order not to open fire on them. While engaged in the fighting with the zombots Ultra Magnus allowed Flywheels to go and get reinforcements (though had little expectation of the Duocon's return). Surprisingly Flywheels did come back with [[Trypticon]] to give the remaining zombots a good stomping''
''He later joined the [[Mayhem Attack Squad]] and took part in their joint attack with the [[Wreckers]] on [[Galvatron_(G1)|Galvatron]] and [[Megatron]]. [[Image:Topspin_(multi-mode).jpg|right|thumb|250px|Flies like a brick! A brick with wings!]]
Facing off against Decepticons isn't nearly enough of a challenge for '''Topspin'''. He'd rather pit himself against Nature itself. No mountain is tall enough, no river treacherous enough to give him pause. Alone against rough terrain, be it on land or in the sea, is where this [[Wrecker]]'s fuel pump really gets going. Though he loves the challenge he's not fixated on conquering new terrain, he simply enjoys pitting himself against it, as he says, "The thrill is in the journey."

As a [[Jumpstarter]], Topspin can transform between modes in a fraction of an instant, significantly faster than most Transformers.

==Fiction==

===Marvel Comics===
:''('''Note''': Events in italics occurred only in the Marvel UK books.)''

''Topspin was a member of the elite Autobot force the [[Wreckers]]. Topspin played a bit-part in [[Operation Volcano]]. After delivering a few pointless lines to establish his personality, he achieves very little until he suffers from a bad case of death by [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] in the [[Time Wars]], being the first of many casualties inflicted upon the hopelessly out matched Wreckers and [[Mayhem Attack Squad|Mayhems]]. Topspin isn't seen again... at least, with his head attached.''

:''('''Note''': In the first UK Annual, the Jumpstarters were depicted on [[Earth]] operating with [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]] and the [[Ark]]'s crew. This does not fit into their history as Wreckers on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], and must be considered non-[[canon]].)''

===Dreamwave Comics===
In the Dark Ages, Topspin split off from the Autobots with his fellow Wreckers to act as an independent faction. Under [[Springer]]'s command, they frequently clashed with [[Ratbat]]'s [[Ultracons]] for territorial control.

In the modern era, Topspin continued serving with the Wreckers in the new Unified Cybertronian forces. The Wreckers now operated under [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] as his personal guard. They remained in his command after [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave's]] deposing.

===IDW Comics===

Topspin fired heavy artillery on Varas Centralus. He medically treated [[Nosecone]] on Cybertron. Voiced "the Wreckers" PR compaign to the [[Technobots]] (Leave it to the professionals). He led the hit and run against [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]]. He is a true Robot Of All Trades.

==Toys==
===Generation 1===
*'''Topspin''' (Jumpstarter, 1985)

: Topspin transforms into a Cybertronic air-skiff. He features a pull-back motor in vehicle mode that propels him forward on smooth surfaces; after a short run the latch that keeps his spring-loaded legs releases, causing him to flip forward and into upright robot mode.

: This mold was used to make [[Salt-Man X]] and [[Robot-Man X]].

==Trivia==
* The portraits of Topspin and [[Twin Twist]] on their box-back tech-specs were originally reversed, causing some children a bit of confusion. This was eventually fixed.

* Early versions of Topspin contain the letters "D.A.R" on the wings. There are a holdover from the original pre-''Transformers'' ''[[Diaclone]]'' release, where the Jumpstarters were called "Diaclone Attack Robo".

* Cartoon character sheets were created for both Topspin and Twin Twist back in the '80s, but they were never animated, not even in a commercial.
:''Wide Load (also officially parsed as "Wideload") is an [[Autobot]] in the [[Generation 1]] continuity''

'''Wide Load''', a [[Throttlebot]] who transforms into a dump truck, can haul as much as one million pounds in his role as a materials transporter. This sort of work keeps him pretty filthy most of the time yet, paradoxically, he's a neat freak. Highly superficial, he prides himself on his appearance and judges others on theirs. His unusual susceptibility to rust is thus a source of embarassment. He is the strongest and biggest of the Throttlebots and perhaps the only able to hold his own if it were ever to come to hand-to-hand combat. However this supreme strength is no source of pride for Wideload. While all the other Throttlebots seemed dedicated to spying and sneaking around, Wideload's materials transport role doesn't seem to fit in with this.

''French-Canadian name:'' '''Fadeau'''<br>
''Italian name:'' '''Rollerbot'''

=Fiction=
===Marvel Comics continuity===
Thanks to a Decepticon [[Titanium-class Destruction Drone]], Wide Load and his fellow Throttlebots are captured and brought to the Chief Decepticon Fuel Auditor [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]]. An outbreak of [[Scraplets]] had begun on [[Earth]], and Ratbat ordered them to travel there and destroy all of the infected -- or he would destroy the planet itself to prevent spread of the deadly disease. Given new Earth-style vehicle forms and canisters of corrosive acid, Wide Load and the others arrive on Earth and soon find [[Bumblebee (G1)|Goldbug]] in the death throes of a Scraplets infection. They attempted to destroy him, but during the skirmish, Goldbug's human friend [[Charley Fong]] discovered a cure for Scraplets, the "rare chemical" [[water]]. With this knowledge, they managed to destroy all the Scraplets with help from [[G.B. Blackrock]].

===Animated continuity===
'''Voice Actor:''' [[Corey Burton]] (US), [[Takao Ishii]] (Japan)

Wide Load was a member of the strike force assembled by [[Rodimus Prime (G1)|Rodimus Prime]] to retrieve the body of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] from [[Mark Morgan]] and [[Gregory Swafford]]. During the mission he became infected with the [[Hate Plague]].
====Rebirth (American continuity)====
Wide Load later participated in the defense of [[Autobot City]] during the attack launched by [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] to divert attention while the key to the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]] was stolen.

====Headmasters (Japanese continuity)====
Even though Wide Load says it is "so obvious that we're gonna win," he and the other Throttlebots were all apparently killed by the Decepticons' "Evil Meteor." Despite being dead, the Throttlebots reappear for the series finale.
: Wideload transforms into an "earth-mover" dump truck. Like all Throttlebots, he features a pull-back motor that zips him forward on smooth surfaces in both vehicle and robot modes.
: Though he was re-released as part of the European-market "[[Classics (Euro)|Classics]]" line, unlike his fellow Throttlebots he retained the indent for the heat-sensitive [[rubsign]] insignia decal, even though said decal was replaced by a normal paper sigil decal.
:''Rollbar is an [[Autobot]] from the [[Generation 1]] [[continuity family]].''

[[Image:rollbar_g1_boxart.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Do you know how hard it is for me to find shoes that fit?!]]

'''Rollbar''' always gives 110%. He's neither very strong nor very fast, but he's got heart, and a vast arsenal of corny, macho cliches to pepper his speech. Though the other [[Throttlebot]]s are inclined to roll their optical sensors when he starts laying the Cybertronian bullslag on too thickly, his gung-ho attitude has earned the respect of them all, and when the higher-ranking veteran [[Bumblebee (G1)|Goldbug]] is not around, Rollbar is the acting leader of his very democratic team.

Rollbar makes good use of his low power in vehicle mode. He is a rubber-tired acrobat, able to jump like a cybergoat and run like a turbodeer. This is fortunate; he has little or no firepower, and if caught out has little choice but to run away. He does have radiation and chemical sensors to assist his tracking missions, and audio-video equipment to record his findings, or perhaps the big game.

Rollbar may not have what it takes to make the big plays, but he's still an opponent to be reckoned with. You have to give him that much credit.

:''French-Canadian name'': '''Cabriole'''<br>
:''Italian name'': '''Trollbot'''

==Fiction==
===Marvel Comics continuity===
On [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Rollbar was the leader of the Throttlebots, a group of five Autobots who stole fuel from the Decepticons. On one such mission, they were ambushed by an entire squadron of Decepticons, including a massive Titanium Class Destruction Drone. When the drone offered to spare their lives if they surrendered, Rollbar figured that was the best offer he was likely to get.

The captive Autobots were brought before Ratbat, who ordered them to travel to Earth and end a [[Scraplets]] infection there -- not, as Rollbar guessed, by delivering a cure, but rather by destroying all the infected Transformers with canisters of acid. If they failed, Ratbat threatened to destroy all life on Earth (just ''how'' he was going to do this remains unknown.)

The Throttlebots quickly found their primary target, a crashed Decepticon freighter and its occupants, the Decepticon Triple Changers and their prisoner [[Blaster]]. However, tire tracks heading away from the wreck made them realize that at least one other infected Transformer could be at large. Delaying their attack, Rollbar took Wideload to track down the wayward Transformer.

At a gas station, they caught up with their quarry: the Autobot Goldbug, who was by that time massively infested with Scraplets. Reluctantly, Rollbar and Wideload attempted to destroy Goldbug, but he eluded them long enough for his human friend, [[Charlie Fong]], to demonstrate the Scraplets cure he'd just discovered: water. Relieved, Rollbar and Wideload apologized and explained their urgent mission.

The three Autobots soon returned to the wreckage site, along with two tanker trucks full of water. Before they got the chance to use them, however, the Scraplets in the crash site merged into a single massive creature. Water proved ineffective against it, and the weaponless Throttlebots were unable to fight it effectively until Goldbug sprayed the Decepticons with the water, allowing them to bring their firepower to bear against the creature, disabling it long enough for Blaster to destroy it.

Rollbar and his crew joined Goldbug and Blaster in their independent war against the Decepticons, but the incident at the crashed spaceship had gained them unwanted attention. Low on fuel, they were shadowed cross-country by both R.A.A.T. and the Decepticons. Attempting to refuel at a Blackrock gas station, they found themselves under attack by R.A.A.T. An aerial attack module blasted Rollbar's rear canopy, leaving him with a ragged hole in the back end. The Autobots escaped, but were still low on fuel.

Eventually, they took shelter in an auto sales lot, negotiating with the owner, "Big Steve", to ensure that he didn't have the damaged Rollbar towed away. But Big Steve betrayed the team to R.A.A.T., filling their tanks with soda and allowing R.A.A.T. to haul the Throttlebots away under the cover of a fight between the Protectobots and Combaticons.

R.A.A.T. held the Throttlebots prisoner for some time, partially disassembling and examining them, as well as interrogating them. Eventually, the six prisoners were "executed" on national television -- though in fact they survived, as Walter Barnett removed their brain modules.

Eventually winding up with Optimus Prime's Autobots aboard the Ark, they were re-built into new bodies... and promptly destroyed again by the Underbase-powered Starscream.

===American animated continuity===
Voice actor: [[Dan Gilvezan]] (US)

While the other Throttlebots made their TV debut in [[The Return of Optimus Prime]] Rollbar had to wait (and missed all the fun with the [[Hate Plague]]) for The Rebirth before he got some on screen action. Rollbar was seen briefly helping to defend [[Autobot City]] from a massive Decepticon raid {{storylink|The Rebirth, Part 1}} and then again with his fellow Throttlebots on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] {{storylink|The Rebirth, Part 3}}.
The 1992 European "[[Classics (Euro)|Classics]] release also had the [[rubsign]] indent removed, the rubsign decal itself replaced with the Autobot insignia.
Cruel and foulmouthed, '''Freeway''' is the Autobots' self-appointed "King of Comedy." No one is immune from his special brand of humor, not even high-ranking officers. He's always on the lookout for even the smallest and most trivial of mistakes; these can be an opening for him to unleash a torrent of pointed, mocking abuse. Freeway is convinced that he's absolutely hilarious. Point out that he's not really all that funny, and he'll do you even worse, insult your heritage, make scandalous suggestions about your progenitor, and claim you have no sense of humor and are, in fact, a wussy. Freeway will make himself laugh so hard that he blows a circuit and shorts himself out.

Freeway can dish it out, but he sure can't take it. Treat him the way he treats others, and Freeway will very quickly become angry, twisted and resentful. Very much a fuming ball of wires.
===The Rebirth===
When defending Autobot city on earth from the Decepticons, Freeway learned that [[Snapdragon]] would not back off. Instead, and with some help from Snapdragon, Freeway had to back off, all the way into a wall. Loosing a wheel in the process, we have no reall idea of how serious an injury that is, but as he's seen fighting along side his fellow autobots just a while later, in car-mode, we can probably rule out that it was repaired.

''Note: While [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] was rebuilt into the Throttlebot themed Goldbug first, this write-up focuses on the five primary members of the group.''

The Throttlebot were among the numerous Autobot guerrilla units on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], and led a successful campaign of fuel raids against the ruling Decepticons. However, thanks to a Decepticon [[Titanium-class Destruction Drone]], the Throttlebots were eventually captured and brought to the Chief Decepticon Fuel Auditor [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]]. An outbreak of [[Scraplets]] had begun on [[Earth]], and unwilling to waste Decepticon troops Ratbat captured them to travel there and destroy all of the infected -- or he would destroy the planet itself to prevent spread of the deadly disease. Given new Earth-style vehicle forms and canisters of corrosive acid, the Throttlebots arrive on Earth and soon find [[Bumblebee (G1)|Goldbug]] in the death throes of a Scraplets infection. They attempted to destroy him, but during the skirmish, Goldbug's human friend [[Charley Fong]] discovered a cure for Scraplets, the "rare chemical" [[water]]. With this knowledge, they managed to destroy all the Scraplets with help from [[G.B. Blackrock]]. {{storylink|The Cure!}}

Joining Goldbug and Blaster on their travels, the group unfortunately attracted the attention of the [[Combaticon]] [[Vortex]] who Blaster is able to see off, but their attempts to refuel at a Blackrock gas station were blocked by a [[RAAT]] team, Rollbar being damaged during the battle. Running low on fuel and seeking a place to hide and regroup, the Throttlebots choose to stay at a used car lot. When the owner, [["Big Steve" Ludwig]], tries to have the damaged Rollbar towed, the Throttlebots reveal themselves to Big Steve to stop him. With a reward posted for information on group, Big Steve promptly reports the Throttlebots to the authorities, and fills the Throttlebots' fuel tanks with soda to immobilize them. Later that night [[Walter Barnett]] arrives with a [[RAAT]] strike force to pick up the immobile Throttlebots when the [[Combaticon]]s and [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobot]]s both arrive to take the Throttlebots themselves. Even as he begins to realize that there may be two warring factions among the Transformers, Barnett ordered the Throttlebots to be towed away as the Autobots and Decepticons [[combiner]] teams attack each other.{{storylink|Used Autobots}}

Taken to [[Intelligence and Information Institute|Triple-I]], the Throttlebots are dissected, rebuilt and constantly interrogated over an increasing volume of Decepticon raids. Unwilling to believe their repeated explanations about two factions, Triple-I makes a public declaration that if the raids continue they will execute their prisoners in retaliation. Eager to bump off some Autobots, the Decepticons do just that. Unable to stop his boss from carrying out the threat and realizing they speak the truth, Barnett transplants their brain modules into his young son's remote control cars, allowing the Autobots to survive and even control their new "bodies". Which was kind of handy after the Ratbat and the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]] discovered their brain modules were missing from their trashed bodies and gave chase as Barnett sought out [[Buster Witwicky]]. Evading the Decepticons in a local mall, Barnett fled with the five original Throttlebots while Buster took Goldbug to the last known location of the Ark. {{storylink|Toy Soldiers!}}

When the US Navy and Triple-I blockaded the [[Club Con|mysterious desert island]] where the Decepticons were keeping Buster hostage, Barnett arrived with the still remote control car housed Throttlebots. When an [[All-Terrain Turbo-Transport|Autobot turbo-transport]] arrived to assault the island and rescue Buster, Rollbar piped up to stop the humans attacking it. {{storylink|The Desert Island of Space!}}

Recovered (off-camera) from Triple-I, [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] had the five Throttlebots' bodies rebuilt stronger than before. His hope that this would be strong enough to survive the [[Underbase]] powered [[Starscream]] was a vain one, as the rogue Decepticon dispatched them before they could even transform. {{storylink|Dark Star!}}

According to [[Blaster]] (in an answer in the UK Marvel comic letters page) his favourite Cybertronian football team was Throttlebot Wanderers whom he described as "non-league no-hopers" [http://transfans.net/popup.php?id=2235].

===Generation 1 cartoon===

The Throttlebots made their first TV appearance late on in the show's run. In [[The Return of Optimus Prime]] they participated in Rodimus Prime's plan to rescue the body of Optimus Prime, only for themselves, [[Ultra Magnus]] and the [[Aerialbots]] to enter a trap and become infected by the [[Hate Plague]]. Oddly Rollbar did not actually make an appearance in the episode, the rest of his colleagues though were soon cured of the disease. By the time of [[The Rebirth]], Rollbar finally had caught up with his chums and the Throttlebots were part of the defence of Autobot City against the Decepticon raid (with varying degrees of success). They were later part of the Autobot forces that arrived on Cybertron to fight the Decepticons.

===Headmasters cartoon===
They were really really stupid. Their hubris proved to be their undoing[http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=14592].
The Throttlebots were first released in 1987, effectively supplanting the [[Mini Vehicle]] assortment. Some versions also came with free [[Decoy]]s; in fact, the Throttlebots are the ''only'' toys that could have the red Decepticon Decoys.

They were later re-released in European markets in the early Nineties as part of the "[[Classics (Euro)|Classics]]" assortment. In this release, everyone but Wide Load was [[retool]]ed to remove their [[rubsign]] indent, the heat-sensitive decal proper replaced with a glossy-paper faction sigil. Wide Load kept his indent, but like the others, had his rubsign replaced.
An outbreak of [[Scraplets]] had begun on [[Earth]], and unwilling to waste Decepticon troops Ratbat captured them to travel there and destroy all of the infected -- or he would destroy the planet itself to prevent spread of the deadly disease. Given new Earth-style vehicle forms and canisters of corrosive acid, the Throttlebots arrive on Earth and soon find [[Bumblebee (G1)|Goldbug]] in the death throes of a Scraplets infection. They attempted to destroy him, but during the skirmish, Goldbug's human friend [[Charley Fong]] discovered a cure for Scraplets, the "rare chemical" [[water]]. With this knowledge, they managed to destroy all the Scraplets with help from [[G.B. Blackrock]]. {{storylink|The Cure!}}

Joining Goldbug and Blaster on their travels, the group unfortunately attracted the attention of the [[Combaticon]] [[Vortex]] who Blaster is able to see off, but their attempts to refuel at a Blackrock gas station were blocked by a [[RAAT]] team, Rollbar being damaged during the battle. Running low on fuel and seeking a place to hide and regroup, the Throttlebots choose to stay at a used car lot. When the owner, [["Big Steve" Ludwig]], tries to have the damaged Rollbar towed, the Throttlebots reveal themselves to Big Steve to stop him. With a reward posted for information on group, Big Steve promptly reports the Throttlebots to the authorities, and fills the Throttlebots' fuel tanks with soda to immobilize them. Later that night [[Walter Barnett]] arrives with a [[RAAT]] strike force to pick up the immobile Throttlebots when the [[Combaticon]]s and [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobot]]s both arrive to take the Throttlebots themselves. Even as he begins to realize that there may be two warring factions among the Transformers, Barnett ordered the Throttlebots to be towed away as the Autobots and Decepticons [[combiner]] teams attack each other.{{storylink|Used Autobots}}

Taken to [[Intelligence and Information Institute|Triple-I]], the Throttlebots are dissected, rebuilt and constantly interrogated over an increasing volume of Decepticon raids. Unwilling to believe their repeated explanations about two factions, Triple-I makes a public declaration that if the raids continue they will execute their prisoners in retaliation. Eager to bump off some Autobots, the Decepticons do just that. Unable to stop his boss from carrying out the threat and realizing they speak the truth, Barnett transplants their brain modules into his young son's remote control cars, allowing the Autobots to survive and even control their new "bodies". Which was kind of handy after the Ratbat and the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]] discovered their brain modules were missing from their trashed bodies and gave chase as Barnett sought out [[Buster Witwicky]]. Evading the Decepticons in a local mall, Barnett fled with the five original Throttlebots while Buster took Goldbug to the last known location of the Ark. {{storylink|Toy Soldiers!}}

When the US Navy and Triple-I blockaded the [[Club Con|mysterious desert island]] where the Decepticons were keeping Buster hostage, Barnett arrived with the still remote control car housed Throttlebots. When an [[All-Terrain Turbo-Transport|Autobot turbo-transport]] arrived to assault the island and rescue Buster, Rollbar piped up to stop the humans attacking it. {{storylink|The Desert Island of Space!}}

Recovered (off-camera) from Triple-I, [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] had the five Throttlebots' bodies rebuilt stronger than before. His hope that this would be strong enough to survive the [[Underbase]] powered [[Starscream]] was a vain one, as the rogue Decepticon dispatched them before they could even transform. {{storylink|Dark Star!}}

'''Searchlight''' is quiet and withdrawn.

Freeway can dish it out, but he sure can't take it. Treat him the way he treats others, and Freeway will retreat into his shell, collapsing into a weepy pile of self-pity.
Freeway and three of the other Throttlebots were part of the force sent by [[Rodimus Prime]] to recover the body of [[Optimus Prime]]. Freeway was amongst the very first to be infected by the [[Hate Plague]].

===The Rebirth===

Rollbar makes good use of his low power in vehicle mode. He is a rubber-tired acrobat, able to jump like a cybergoat and run like a turbodeer.
Rollbar was the only Throttlebot not to appear in [[The Return of Optimus Prime]] and thus was never seen to be infected with the [[Hate Plague]]. Rollbar's only appearance in the American animated series was in [[The Rebirth]], seen briefly helping to defend Autobot City from the Decepticon raid and then again with his fellow Throttlebots on Cybertron.

===Japanese animated continuity===
Voice actor: [[Kunihiko Yasui]] (Japan)

===Marvel Comics continuity===

On Cybertron, Rollbar was the leader of the Throttlebots, a group of five Autobots who stole fuel from the Decepticons.

Voice actor: [[Dan Gilvezan]] (US)

Rollbar was the only Throttlebot not to appear in [[The Return of Optimus Prime]] and thus was never seen to be infected with the [[Hate Plague]]. Rollbar's only appearance in the American animated series was in [[The Rebirth, Part 1|The Rebirth]], seen briefly helping to defend Autobot City from the Decepticon raid and then again with his fellow Throttlebots on Cybertron.

===Japanese animated continuity===
Voice actor: [[Kunihiko Yasui]] (Japan)

===Marvel Comics continuity===

On Cybertron, Rollbar was the leader of the Throttlebots, a group of five Autobots who stole fuel from the Decepticons.

The Throttlebot were among the numerous Autobot guerrilla units on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], and led a successful campaign of fuel raids against the ruling Decepticons. However, thanks to a Decepticon [[Titanium-class Destruction Drone]], the Throttlebots were eventually captured and brought to the Chief Decepticon Fuel Auditor [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]]. An outbreak of [[Scraplets]] had begun on [[Earth]], and unwilling to waste Decepticon troops Ratbat captured them to travel there and destroy all of the infected -- or he would destroy the planet itself to prevent spread of the deadly disease. Given new Earth-style vehicle forms and canisters of corrosive acid, the Throttlebots arrive on Earth and soon find [[Bumblebee (G1)|Goldbug]] in the death throes of a Scraplets infection. They attempted to destroy him, but during the skirmish, Goldbug's human friend [[Charley Fong]] discovered a cure for Scraplets, the "rare chemical" [[water]]. With this knowledge, they managed to destroy all the Scraplets with help from [[G.B. Blackrock]]. {{storylink|The Cure!}}

Joining Goldbug and Blaster on their travels, the group unfortunately attracted the attention of the [[Combaticon]] [[Vortex]] who Blaster is able to see off, but their attempts to refuel at a Blackrock gas station were blocked by a [[RAAT]] team, Rollbar being damaged during the battle. Running low on fuel and seeking a place to hide and regroup, the Throttlebots choose to stay at a used car lot. When the owner, [["Big Steve" Ludwig]], tries to have the damaged Rollbar towed, the Throttlebots reveal themselves to Big Steve to stop him. With a reward posted for information on group, Big Steve promptly reports the Throttlebots to the authorities, and fills the Throttlebots' fuel tanks with soda to immobilize them. Later that night [[Walter Barnett]] arrives with a [[RAAT]] strike force to pick up the immobile Throttlebots when the [[Combaticon]]s and [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobot]]s both arrive to take the Throttlebots themselves. Even as he begins to realize that there may be two warring factions among the Transformers, Barnett ordered the Throttlebots to be towed away as the Autobots and Decepticons [[combiner]] teams attack each other.{{storylink|Used Autobots}}

Taken to [[Intelligence and Information Institute|Triple-I]], the Throttlebots are dissected, rebuilt and constantly interrogated over an increasing volume of Decepticon raids. Unwilling to believe their repeated explanations about two factions, Triple-I makes a public declaration that if the raids continue they will execute their prisoners in retaliation. Eager to bump off some Autobots, the Decepticons do just that. Unable to stop his boss from carrying out the threat and realizing they speak the truth, Barnett transplants their brain modules into his young son's remote control cars, allowing the Autobots to survive and even control their new "bodies". Which was kind of handy after the Ratbat and the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]] discovered their brain modules were missing from their trashed bodies and gave chase as Barnett sought out [[Buster Witwicky]]. Evading the Decepticons in a local mall, Barnett fled with the five original Throttlebots while Buster took Goldbug to the last known location of the Ark. {{storylink|Toy Soldiers!}}
When an [[All-Terrain Turbo-Transport|Autobot turbo-transport]] arrived to assault the island and rescue Buster, Rollbar piped up to stop the humans attacking it. {{storylink|The Desert Island of Space!}}
Recovered (off-camera) from Triple-I, [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] had the five Throttlebots' bodies rebuilt stronger than before. His hope that this would be strong enough to survive the [[Underbase]] powered [[Starscream]] was a vain one, as the rogue Decepticon dispatched them before they could even transform. {{storylink|Dark Star!}}

===Marvel Comics continuity===

On Cybertron, Rollbar was the leader of the Throttlebots, a group of five Autobots who stole fuel from the Decepticons.
