The Laurentian Abyss is an underwater depression off the eastern coast of Canada in the Atlantic Ocean, at least 6,000 meters in depth.

Fiction
Transformers (2007) film
The United States government dropped all of the defeated Decepticons into the Laurentian Abyss. It was hoped that the extreme pressure and temperature of the Abyss would destroy bodies of the Decepticons, hiding the evidence from the unknowing populace of Earth. Transformers (2007)

Revenge of the Fallen movie
Things did not work out as the government had planned, as the Constructicons, Ravage and Scalpel dived down to Megatron's resting place and reactivated him with a piece of the AllSpark. Rapidly surfacing, Megatron rammed into and destroyed the U.S.S. Topeka, a submarine assigned to guard the area. Revenge of the Fallen (film)

Notes
* John Keller calls the abyss the deepest point on Earth... but in reality, this is untrue. The Mariana Trench is over twice as deep as the Laurentian.
* In Alliance issue #2, the Decepticons are transported across the country to an aircraft carrier in San Diego. San Diego is on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. In the 2007 film, Keller reports that they are going to be dropped into the Laurentian Abyss. Which is in the Atlantic Ocean. Now, either the aircraft carrier with the Decepticons is going to cruise down the Panama Canal, and all the way back up north to the Abyss and drop them there like Keller said, or they will be dropped somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, like the Mariana Trench.
* Decepticons are tough. You could understand Megatron and the Constructicons being hardy enough to withstand the immense water pressure, but for spindly little things like Ravage and Scalpel to not only survive but move around unhindered...
** Fish move around unhindered at that depth, too. This is because fluids and of course solids are uncompressable. Transformers do not breathe, so there is no reason why there should be any gas in their body. And therefore, the pressure would actually be no factor, since it presses on them equally from all directions; apart from the added friction of the water, they would move the same way as above water.

Franchise or not?
Unless its a "franchise" sort of page specifically about realworld stuff, isn't our general mandate to write In-universe about the fiction first and make the out-of-universe stuff kind of secondary info under toys/trivia. Power Core Combiners are very much an In Fiction concept. I think this page, as it is right now is much too Out-of-Universe focused. Especially the intro wich should probably mostly go under "Toys". It talks about toyline issues first and blows off fiction almost entirely to be adressed in other articles, when I think it belongs here more. Fixing things seems a big enough revision that I wanted to check if others felt the same before revising it all. --ZacWilliam 07:34, 7 June 2010 (EDT)
:I think this was intended as a "franchise" page (or even a toyline page) when it was first made. The fictional concept does deserve a good work up, but it may belong on another page. However, since according to the intro this toyline is part of the larger TF2010 toyline shouldn't it be merged there? --Khajidha 07:39, 7 June 2010 (EDT)

::Yeah this is written like a franchise page. But Power Core Combiners are an In-Fiction thing. Which means either we need 2 pages, something like: Power Core Combiner (franchise) and Power Core Combiner (technology) or this one needs to be revised to be about in-universe stuff first and toyline concerns second. --ZacWilliam 07:50, 7 June 2010 (EDT)
:::There is a Power Core Combination page that covers the fiction. --Khajidha 08:24, 7 June 2010 (EDT)
::::But that's wrong. We don't cover Powermaster fiction only under Powermaster Binary-bonding Combination or something like that. We cover it under the regular old Powermasters page because that's where it belong and thats what folks are going to look up. Likewise Power Core Combiner fiction needs to be covered under Power Core Combiners not some wierd secondary page. No other TF combination type is covered that way as far as I know. --ZacWilliam 08:47, 7 June 2010 (EDT)
:::::As long as we're saying things like "Bombshock is a Decepticon Commander from Power Core Combiners," we need to have an out-of-universe "Power Core Combiners" franchise/toyline/whatever page to link to. In fact, even look at the "Bombshock" and "Commander" links - they have "(PCC)" disambigs. We could change all of that to Transformers (2010 toyline)... but do we actually want to? At the moment, the PCC brand seems to be a more self-contained, independent entity than Powermasters ever were. - Jackpot 16:14, 7 June 2010 (EDT)
::::::I just don't see it standing on its own as a franchise. A subline imprint, yes; a franchise, no. It seems much more like Powerlinx Battles to me. --Khajidha 16:20, 7 June 2010 (EDT)
:::::::In visual presentation, that's true. Unlike most (all?) other franchises, "Power Core Combiners" isn't written as a subtitle to "Transformers" - it's down at the bottom or in a corner of the package, like Powerlinx Battles or The Unicron Battles. I think that if the 2010 Transformers were a more cohesive franchise, we might have an easier time folding PCC into it. But because 2010-TF is so nebulous, its sublines have more weight unto themselves. PCC has its own little storyline, and I don't think Hasbro has made any effort to explicitly relate it to anything else going on in 2010-TF, so I can see why we've treated it separately so far. (Like I said elsewhere, I'm not personally married to doing it this way, but I see no particular need to change things up either.) - Jackpot 16:39, 7 June 2010 (EDT)

Different type of Powerlinx port?
I don't have any of the toys myself to examine, but I've seen vague statements online about the PCC Mini-Cons being incompatible with traditional Powerlinx ports. What's the skinny on this? - Jackpot 15:11, 16 June 2010 (EDT)

"Thirty two prototyped toys"
Since I'm sure someone will add that note again, I'd like to point out that between the various known unique molds in the PCC line, there's 10 Commanders, 6 Minicons, and 16 drones. That's 32 toys total. They're compatible with each other in a large number of combinations, just not I'll simultaneously. I'm not sure where the original quote came from, but it's possible it had some basis in fact and was severely misinterpreted. - Cattleprod 23:19, 9 July 2010 (EDT)
:No. It was from a poster who's known for years for totally making rediculous scrap up, to the point where it's an ongoing joke for some folks, and taken in context of the rest of his original post, which described toys that are NOTHING like PCCs actually are, it's clear made-up garbage and doesn't belong here. --ZacWilliam 07:32, 10 July 2010 (EDT)
::I knew the note itself was still complete nonsense, hence the part about it being 'severely misinterpreted' at best. It still managed to guess the exact number of confirmed unique molds, which raised some questions for me. - Cattleprod 16:37, 10 July 2010 (EDT)
Summary
Starscream stops to moan about the fact that, long before the Autobots and Decepticons had come to Earth, more powerful Transformers had a way of interfering with his plans. He thinks back to one time when, after executing some of the Council of Ancients, Megatron chose to assert his authority as the unquestioned leader of the Decepticons. War Within: The Age of Wrath

In the present, Starscream attempts to escape oppression from the behemoth Omega Supreme, who has already grabbed the weakened Sunstorm. Starscream decides that he has better chances with his clone brother on the loose than being hunted down by the titan Autobot, so he uses his null-ray to destroy the apparatus that was keeping Sunstorm's power down to manageable levels. Sunstorm quickly reawakens and escapes Omega's grasp.

On Cybertron, Prowl becomes frustrated by his casual study of the energy aberration in Shockwave's abandoned laboratory in Quadrant Epsilon, found two issues ago by the Protectobots. The study leads to an analysis on the theoretical engineering of Vector Sigma. Ultra Magnus communicates with Prowl over a video screen regarding arrangements for the next day's meeting with some other Autobots and advises that Prowl get some rest.

Under rainfall in Oregon, Warpath and Bumper hoist some deactivated Autobots out of the lake where Starscream hid the bodies after they were damaged in the Combaticons' attack. The two Autobots are ambushed by a large number of humans from the Earth Defense Command led by Marissa Faireborn. Bumper, being the more level-headed of the two active Autobots, decides that surrender is the best idea.

After the battle against Sunstorm, Jetfire drops off Brawn, Cliffjumper, and Bumblebee back at the Orion. Inside, only Ratchet is still standing to explain that Starscream vandalized the ship as he was escaping.

Also Starscream's responsibility is the epic showdown outside between Sunstorm and Omega Supreme. The two toss massive amounts of energy at each other, with Omega Supreme winning the standoff, causing the self-righteous psychopath to fall to the ground. Omega Supreme takes a closer look at his (relatively) tiny foe, who now has a clear shot right into Omega Supreme's unprotected face.
* The title of the story is borrowed from the name of DC Comics villain Darkseid's trademark eye-beams.
* It's ambiguous if the flashback on the opening pages takes place after Starscream hijacked Megatron's plans in The War Within and destroyed Iacon while Megatron was fighting Optimus, or if it occurs sometime during War Within: The Age of Wrath when Starscream killed the remaining elders during his attack on the peace talks and Megatron returned from deep space.
* Bumper makes reference to Bumblebee's underwater skills. That trait is virtually unmentioned outside of his original on-package bio.
* How did the Orion get to Alaska from Oregon? Well presumably, it flew. Shuttles can do that, you know.
Also known as the "Beast of Time," Hytherion is a hyper-dimensional creature of immense power and destructive potential, capable of traveling freely throughout universal streams. Composed of the dimensionally-resonant material Alternium, Hytherion's natural sustenance is time itself. In particular, the beast has been known to savor devouring the origins of worlds and universes, a tendency which has seeded fear of it in countless universes where it is known as the "Origin Eater." Normally invisible and intangible to lower-dimensional beings, Hytherion is opposed by the enlightened protectors known as the Alternity, an evolved form of Cybertronian life. It is prophesied that the evil Megatron will lead the creature to destroy the Earth.

Fiction
Alternity
The Protector agent Cliffjumper was dispatched 2.4 billion years into the past to prevent Hytherion from feeding on a galaxy at the moment of its birth. Though the Alternity were unable to enter this time period themselves, Cliffjumper braved the dimensional turbulence and fired a marker weapon at the beast, which allowed the Alternity superweapon known as the "Sword of the Heavens" to strike at Hytherion through time. As a result, the eater of origins was banished from the time period. Ace of Swords

The Optimus Prime of Primax 109.0 Beta was recruited by his alternate self into the ranks of the Alternity in response to the imminent threat of Hytherion descending upon the Earth of that universal stream. From Here to Alternity

Hytherion was drawn to the Earth by the lurking transwarp ship of Megatron, who had studied the beast for some time and had lured it across the dimensions by broadcasting a temporal code that enticed it. Though the Convoy Corps of the Alternity responded swiftly to the threat against the defenseless world, Earth's destruction turned out not to be Megatron's goal. Rather, it was a ruse to get Hytherion within striking distance and enslave the creature, overwriting its higher functions in a gambit to ascend to the same hyper-dimensional state as the Alternity. Thus established as the great beast's master, the auto-avatars that Megatron had seeded on the world below sprung to life. To Mega Therion

Trivia
* Hytherion's name appears to be a portmanteau of the mighty Titan Hyperion from Greek mythology and the Latin root word "theria-" ("beast").
* He also has more than a little in common with the adult form of Mr.Mind - a 'hyperfly' which traverses the Multiverse and feeds on time itself.
Power Core Combiners is a subline within the 2010 Transformers franchise and carries with it all the continuity ambiguity that that entails. Its aesthetic and limited fiction seem inspired by the live-action film series, but nothing can be said for certain.

The design of the toys relies heavily on the titular gimmick, combination. Every main character is a "Commander" sold with either a Mini-Con (which connects in several configurations) or a set of four drone vehicles (which connect as limbs to form a larger robot). The Mini-Cons and drones can be attached to any Commander, so hundreds of combinations are possible between all of the figures.

Unlike the Mini-Cons of previous lines, the Power Core Combiner Mini-Cons lack their own independent vehicle or animal modes. Rather, they turn from robots into accessories for their Commanders. In vehicle mode, a Commander can use a Mini-Con as a weapon or tool. In robot mode, a Commander can wield a Mini-Con as a hand-held weapon or wear him as armor.

The drones are similar to Energon Optimus Prime's "Prime Force", being vehicles with no robot modes. In fact, they are even more limited than the Prime Force, as an arm-drone cannot become a leg-drone (or vice versa). However, the fact that there are several teams of drones who can be swapped among Commanders adds a Scramble-City-esque dimension of play. Also, people who love Transformers but hate transforming can breathe easy in the knowledge that the drones automorph into and out of limb mode simply by being plugged into and removed from a Commander.

While so far, the combinations seem to be very straightforward, "Transformers insider" Patrick Stewart claimed that the designers had been able to create a gestalt consisting of thirty-two prototyped toys, suggesting the commander-type combination is only a first step.

Fiction
The toys' packaging presents a simple storyline about Power Core Combination technology being found on Earth. A more robust account was published in the Collectors' Club magazine #32. As of yet there has been no narrative fiction, only summaries and bios. As for which larger continuity (if any) this fits into, clues are scant and contradictory: The "Gestalt Process" is described in horrific terms that match only the live-action film series; however, Huffer's bio says that he's "just as inclined to grumble as he's ever been," despite having never appeared in the movie universe before. Rather, this is clearly inspired by his Generation 1 namesake. Any conclusions are up to the reader to make.
Power Core Combiners
Commander 2-packs
Each 2-pack contains a Commander (who turns into a robot and a vehicle) and a Mini-Con (who turns into a robot and various accessory modes for the Commander). Each Commander also has a torso mode with a different head, and this can be combined with any of the drone sets from the 5-packs (see below). Commanders also have standard Mini-Con ports, so they are compatible with any Mini-Cons, not just the transparent, neon-colored new ones.

Wave 1
* Huffer (semi cab) and Caliburst
* Searchlight (rescue helicopter) and Backwind (winch)
* Smolder (fire department brush truck) and Chopster (axe)

Wave 2
* Icepick (snowcat arctic vehicle) and Chainclaw

5-packs
Each 5-pack contains a Commander (who turns into a robot and a vehicle) and four drones (which turn into vehicles and limbs). The drones have an automatic "deploy" transformation when they attach and an automatic retract feature to vehicle mode when detached. Arm-drones and leg-drones cannot swap functions. Each drone has Mini-Con Powerlinx hardpoints. Any set of drones can combine with any Commander, even the ones sold in 2-packs.

Wave 1
* Bombshock (Combaticons)
