:Sentinel Zeta Prime is an Autobot from the Transformers: Prime continuity family.

Sentinel Zeta Prime was originally an officer in the Elite Guard before being named Prime. Under pressure from the various guilds of Cybertron he oversaw the rise of the caste system that came to dominate Transformer society, a policy which brought him into conflict with Alpha Trion, and ultimately led to the archivist's self-imposed exile in the Hall of Records. By the time of the rise of the Decepticon movement time had robbed him of much of the fire which had made him an effective military leader, and this left him out of touch with the people he claimed to represent.

Fiction
Exodus: The History of the War for Cybertron
Though not one of the thirteen original Transformers, Sentinel Prime ruled Cybertron since near that time. Among his achievements was besting off a Quintesson invasion, overseeing Cybertron's space bridge expansion to worlds such as Gigantion, Velocitron and the Hub, and the construction of Trypticon Station. But as the space bridges grew less reliable and the Golden Age drew to a close, Sentinel reorganized Cybertron into Guild-run castes, an action Alpha Trion opposed, forcing him to retreat forever into the Hall of Records. Sentinel also became reclusive, enforcing the notion he did not care for the lower castes.

It was while attending a performance by comedian Armorhide at Altihex Casino when Megatron's Decepticons attacked. Sentinel did not try to fight back, and relied on his bodyguards Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp for his safety — only to discover they were part of the plot, and they imprisoned him in Kaon to gain favor with Megatron.

As the war with the Autobots lulled, Starscream visited Sentinel and offered him a chance to redeem his cowardly behavior at Altihex. As Megatron plotted to take the Plasma energy Chamber beneath the High Council Tower, Starscream released Sentinel and confronted Megatron below Iacon. Though he was an agile opponent, Megatron literally disarmed Sentinel and cut open his chest, exposing the Code Key of Justice needed to access the Chamber within him. Starscream removed the Key and Blackout was ordered to return Sentinel to Kaon.

Sentinel was chained to a pillar in the Underworld pits that he had despised his whole life. But he was able to send a distress signal which Prowl received, and he, Jazz and Sentinel's replacement Optimus Prime arrived to rescue him. Sentinel said he had overstayed his welcome as Prime and said the High Council made the right decision in appointing Optimus. Before dying, he ordered Optimus to journey to Cybertron's core and purge it of Megatron's Dark Energon. Optimus returned Sentinel's body to Iacon, where it was laid to rest.

Zeta Prime, the leader of the Autobots, was targeted by Megatron, for he was the reputed holder of the Omega Key, a tool that would allow access to Cybertron's core. Megatron's plan was to pump the powerful Dark Energon into the core in the hopes of reviving the planet and restoring it to what he claimed would be, its "former glory". During the Decepticon attack on the crumbling Autobot capitol of Iacon, Zeta Prime appeared via holographs, warning the Decepticons to turn back before it was too late, before Zeta would be forced to execute them.

Megatron's team eventually fought their way to Zeta Prime's chamber in the Iacon Vaults, where he was in control of a contraption that not only protected him against all attack, it allowed him to create holographic energon clones of himself and manipulate the ceiling to crush the Decepticons. However, the device had a fatal flaw - after significant operation, the core opened up to cool down, allowing Megatron and his Decepticons to damage it. As Zeta Prime's machine crumbled around him, he was pinned to the floor by the wreckage. He told Megatron to finish it, but instead, the Decepticon leader merely squeezed his spark casing, forcing the Prime to release his grip on the Omega Key. As Megatron gloated in his victory, the key started to flash and beep. Zeta Prime laughed, mocking Megatron for heeding the words for his misinformed spies. The device Megatron now held in his hands was not the Omega Key itself, but merely the device that activated the Key. Zeta said that Megatron would only have to wait for the Omega Key to come to him.

Zeta Prime was taken to Megatron's Kaon Prison Complex, but elsewhere on Cybertron, Omega Supreme, guardian of Iacon and, as it turned out, the true Omega Key, was activated with a mission: Destroy Megatron.

After the defeat of Omega Supreme and the corruption of Cybertron's core with Dark Energon, rumours spread through the Autobot camp that Zeta Prime was dead. A young soldier named Optimus was forced to take tempoary command of the Autobots and lead the defensive efforts of Iacon. After Starscream was defeated in the Decagon's communications tower, a message, seemingly from Zeta Prime, was played to all Autobot frequencies. Zeta reported his location, and claimed that he had acquired information vital to the Autobot war effort. Ratchet warned that it was an obvious trap, despite the confirmation of his unique ID signature, but Optimus determined that if there was a chance Zeta was still alive, the Autobots must try to rescue him.

Allowing themselves to be captured, Optimus, Bumblebee and Sideswipe were imprisoned (and then broke free), only to learn from Megatron himself that he had orchestrated Zeta Prime's message, their capture and their subsequent escape. After being captured and escaping again, Optimus' team freed the remaining Autobot prisoners and Air Raid, then set off to find their leader. Eventually, Zeta Prime was found, being tortured by Soundwave in his laboratory. After Soundwave was bested by the Autobots, in desperation, the Decepticon drew energy from the injured Zeta's spark itself, mortally wounding him. Optimus promised to bring Zeta home, but the Prime with his last breath, said that while he appreciated the noble sentiments, it was already too late. Zeta Prime, leader of the Autobots, was dead.

Optimus took Zeta's body back to Iacon, presented it before the Autobot High Council, and begged them for guidance in these desperate times. The leader of the Council stated that they existed only to choose Primes, and that it was the Primes who led the Autobots. When Optimus responded that there were no Primes left, the Council leader asked if Optimus would still reject his true calling. The Council said that for too long they have watched the Primes fall to greed and pride, but Optimus was one leader whose wisdom and courage inspired and transformed the lives of those around him. Charging him with the mission to remove the infection of Dark Energon from Cybertron's core, the council bestowed leadership of the Autobots onto Optimus, a burden and responsibility he accepted. He was now Optimus Prime, the last Prime. Transformers: War for Cybertron (360/PS3/PC)
Notes
* As revealed in the unlocked concept art in the Extras menu of the Transformers: War for Cybertron video game, some early colour schemes for WFC Zeta Prime resembled that of Generation 1 Sentinel Prime. Also revealed in the concept art is that Zeta Prime's vehicle mode is a cybertronic car, though he doesn't actually transform in the course of the game.
* Since Exodus featured a Sentinel Prime and War for Cybertron featured a Zeta Prime, both occupying the same role, Hasbro suggested at 2010 that they were the same guy: "Sentinel Zeta Prime". This continuity was off to a great start!
*A video of the Escalation mode on Justin TV strangely showed another player playing as Zeta Prime. Rumors have it that a developer was playing as him. Perhaps Zeta Prime is the "Recon Armor" of War for Cybertron?
Strange things are afoot in North Korea

Synopsis
A television news anchor reports that spy satellites show that North Korea is manufacturing energon. Their intent is unknown, although it has left the United States uneasy, as prior to the Cybertronian conflict on Earth, North Korea had been moving towards attaining nuclear weapons.

In the Korean de-militarised zone, Onslaught drives through the fence separating the North and the South and starts to attack South Korean soldiers. He is struck by a shell from a tank, but the tank is vaporised by another tank—who transforms, revealing himself to be Brawl. Jet fighters scrambled to attack the invaders are cut down in the air by Vortex, who transforms and joins the others on the ground. Onslaught radios his boss, Kim Jong Du, and reports that the battle is over. Kim, at the head of a large North Korean military force, is pleased, claiming that Seoul will be theirs in hours at this rate.

At Skywatch headquarters, Spike reflects that it was inevitable that North Korea collaborate with the Decepticons eventually. He consults Henderson about the specifics of the situation, but Henderson is unable to reveal anything beyond that there is one further Combaticon in play that has not been sighted yet, and that the North Koreans have seventeen energon production facilities.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the base, Ratchet is explaining to a Skywatch engineer the internal workings of the Cybertronians, using a relaxed Cliffjumper as an example. Jetfire expresses his hesitancy to Bumblebee about giving their knowledge to the humans, but Bumblebee replies that not only have the humans given them similar access to human information, they've also supplied the Autobots with all the energon they need. Spike enters the room, asking to speak to the leader of the Autobots and deciding that Optimus Prime is a better option after Jetfire, Ratchet and Cliffjumper all gesture to Bumblebee.

Spike finds Optimus Prime sitting in the now-open cell where he was previously detained, which he claims helps him to think. He requests for Prime's help in dealing with the Combaticons, who are more organised and powerful than any Decepticon they've had to bring in before. Bumblebee accepts his request, but before he can assemble a team, Campognolo bursts in to tell them that the President is making a live address.

The President says that there has been an act of aggression from North Korea towards the South, and that Cybertronians were involved on the side of the aggressors. He then declares that any nation collaborating with Cybertronians or using their technology will be considered to be in possession of weapons of mass destruction. Spike is aware of the problems this causes for him and the Autobots, and as the address ends, Spike orders that everyone act as if the base was under communications blackout and no one had heard the address. He then continues preparing for the mission.
* Almost all of the Transformers have changed bodies again between issues. For the first time in a very, very long time, they are drawn to the specifications of their original Generation 1 character models, with only slight variations for necessity (Ratchet, for instance, sports electrocardiogram graphics on his shoulders instead of his traditional Red Cross symbols). Bumblebee is the exception, as he is back in the Dodge Challenger body he took on at the conclusion of his mini-series, after an artistic error depicted him in his traditional Volkswagen body in his last appearance.

Items of note
*Onslaught's license plate reads "D-64", the Japanese ID number of his original toy.
*The North Korean leader in this issue, Kim Jong Du, while being said to be the son of Kim Jong Il, is clearly based off Il's likeness. The American President, however, looks nothing like Barack Obama.
*Henderson reveals that the North Koreans have been producing enough energon for five Cybertronians to consume. This might suggest that the Combaticons are together for the first time. (While he'd been referred to as a Combaticon previously, Swindle had never been seen with them up to this point.)
*Just like with issue #8, Guido shared a little info on IDW boards about drawing this issue. He said: "Actually at first I was using Don's designs, then I was asked to do my own thing. Because of that and other reasons almost half of #9 pages have been re-drawn from scratch of heavily patched with changes. This didn't happen with #10-12, you'll see."

*Just like with issue #8, Guido shared gave a little info on IDW boards about drawing this issue. He said: "Actually at first I was using Don's designs, then I was asked to do my own thing. Because of that and other reasons almost half of #9 pages have been re-drawn from scratch of heavily patched with changes. This didn't happen with #10-12, you'll see."
