<div>This early 1990s series possesses more or less the same episode list as its [[Generation 1 (television series)|Generation 1]] predecessor. Many old episodes were re-aired to promote the [[Generation 2 (toyline)|Generation 2 toyline]]; primarily these were from seasons one and two, though the odd third season show did slip in (curious, since the G2 toyline contained zero post-[[The Transformers: The Movie|movie]] characters).<br />

The only substantial differences were made in order to "update" the show; a new [[CGI]] intro featuring [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] battling a purple (G2-colored) [[Ramjet (G1)|Ramjet]] replaced the traditional cel-animated intro, and an intrusive and sound-smothering CGI device known as the "[[Cybernet Space Cube]]" was added in an attempt to make cuts and other scene transitions seem cooler. This lackluster attempt at a G1 update is generally forgotten by fans, and did not have anything like the staying power of its predecessor.<br />

However, it is possible that these re-runs were intended to lead up to a new TV series. The letters page of various G2 comics assured readers that a G2 cartoon had been made and would air after the reruns.<br />
