Megatron doesn't respect him, doesn't appreciate him, and would casually toss Starscream's life away if it got him something he wanted. If following Megatron is the school of hard knocks, then Starscream is the valedictorian -- but not without a few scars. Starscream may have once been compassionate, he may once have known what true friendship is, but all that has been replaced, scab for scab, with the lessons of Megatron's abuse.

Unwittingly, Megatron may have created a monster even he cannot ultimately control.

Starscream's nominal [[Mini-Con]] partner is [[Swindle (Armada)|Swindle]], thought he has been seen to work with [[Zapmaster]].

After Megatron wrested control of the Decepticons, [[Alpha Q (Armada)|Alpha Q]] needed a new agent to continue gathering Energon for [[Unicron]]. For this purpose, he resurrected Starscream. However, Alpha Q did not have enough Energon to completely restore Starscream. The result was a Starscream with no memory of his former self. He was now a loyal phantom soldier with no ambition. Due to his incomplete nature, Starscream could teleport and turn invisable. Alpha Q gained Starscream's loyalty by telling Starscream he needed to gather more Energon so they could finish the process.

Starscream failed an assassination attempt on [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]], who unleashed a torrent of vicious mind-games and abuse on the phantom. From then on Starscream was once again Megatron's loyal second-in-command, the latter of whom likely enjoyed the fact that this reincarnated version retained all of Starscream's skill, but none of his ambition.

Unlike the previous relationship that Megatron shared with Starscream, he would correct many of his mistakes, treating this reborn Starscream like a student or son. Now, Starscream was the only soldier he praised or trusted to any extent and Megatron trusted all operations to him. In many ways, Megatron was able to correct his poor "parental" mistakes during Armada, creating a loyal destructive soldier in Energon. Contrary to popular belief, Starscream was not under any sort of mind-control in the Energon series. What was depicted in the story was the direct result of Megatron's treatment of his brave soldier reborn: With respect. This put Starscream down a path that was the direct contradition of his Armada outcome.

Later, Megatron found the Super Energon Pool and upgraded himself to Galvatron. Starscream was the first to join him, and his form and colors were powered up. When Galvatron sacrificed himself by throwing himself into the newborn Energon sun in an attempt to destroy Unicron's essence once and for all, Starscream followed him.

Starscream's debut in the third part to the Unicron Trilogy would be very similar to his appearances in Energon. He was seemingly the loyal soldier he was in Energon, and the only soldier Megatron trusted as his right-hand man. He appears with Megatron early on, but quickly shows that he has grown since his last appearance. He no longer trusts Megatron to lead the Decepticons, but unlike his Armada ideas, he does not seek respect and leadership, but only universal conquest. Megatron has taught him so well, they share identical dreams, even if it means unseating Megatron himself.

Starscream would go on to manipulate various characters in the Cybertron series, only to be manipulated by Sideways, once again, in his own agenda. Starscream's highlight achievement early on would be challenging and dismantling the entire Autobot army in order to obtain the Omega Lock, and retreat to Easter Island. It was during this battle that he lost the sword on his left arm, which would be replaced with a cannon when the power of Primus more than tripled his size.

He would soon be defeated by Optimus Prime and the returning Wing Saber due to his underestimation of their power. Eventually, he found himself aboard the damaged Atlantis ship, having been rescued by the agent Sideways. Due to his growing pride, Starscream engaged Primus in several battles, the last of which left him injured in outer space after being bludgeoned by two moons that Primus had lassoed with energy beams. His story continues currently in the Cybertron animated series.

Cartoon Grimlock, like all the cartoon Dinobots, has a stereotypical "caveman" type personality and intellect level. They originally decide to help the Autobots, for instance, because "them have face like this on chest..." Pre-movie this lack of intelligence is usually coupled together with their great power to make them dangerous wild cards; Post-movie, however, Grimlock and the Dinobots are generally played as just plain dumb for comic relief.

When mysterious tremors shook the [[Ark|Autobot base]], [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]]'s investigation revealed strange objects behind a rock wall. After removing the wall, the Autobots found a cave full of dinosaur bones. The Autobots decided the idea of dinosaurs was interesting and researched the prehistoric beasts. Wheeljack and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] asked Optimus Prime if they could build robot dinosaurs, and Prime agreed this was a good idea. Grimlock, [[Slag (G1)|Slag]], and [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] were built and unveiled to the Autobots, but the Dinobots were dimwitted and violent, and they attacked their makers. Grimlock blasted [[Teletraan I]] with his fire-breath, damaging it. Optimus Prime decreed that the Dinobots ''must be destroyed''. However, Wheeljack convinced him instead to lock them away, and the trio were herded back into the cave and buried alive.

Later, the Decepticons took over a hydroelectric plant, but when the Autobots arrived to stop them, the Autobots were defeated and captured. Wheeljack, Ratchet, and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], left behind at Autobot base to finish repairing Teletraan-I, decided to go against Optimus' orders and release the Dinobots, but not before upgrading their brains to be smarter and more obedient. After the Dinobots are reactivated, Wheeljack asks them to save their friends. Grimlock says he will obey... this time. They successfully attack the Decepticons and free the imprisoned Autobots. Optimus forgives Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Bumblebee for disobeying his orders and welcomes the victorious Dinobots back to the Autobots.

After a meteor surging with unknown energies struck the Earth, Optimus ordered the three Dinobots to guard it. He was so pleased with the Dinobots he asked Ratchet and Wheeljack to build two more. Meanwhile, Megatron was frustrated at the Dinobots' success, and sent [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] to probe them for potential weaknesses. Reading the Dinobots' minds, he discovered that Grimlock was arrogant and believed he would make a better leader than the weak Optimus Prime. Megatron decided to use this to his advantage, and approached them himself. He played to Grimlock's jealousy and agreed with him that the strongest should be leader. The Dinobots declared Optimus Prime their enemy.

Realizing the meteorite was due to explode, Optimus left to warn the Dinobots, but they attacked him. Instead of destroying him completely, however, Grimlock carried him to the Decepticons, who had stolen the meteorite during the battle. Megatron was angry that Optimus Prime was not destroyed, and Starscream suggested that despite Grimlock's arrogance, inside he was still compassionate. This enraged Grimlock. They were interrupted by the two new Dinobots, [[Snarl (G1)|Snarl]] and [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]], whom Megatron ordered the original three Dinobots to attack. At the climax of the battle, the meteorite exploded, but Optimus Prime pushed Grimlock out of the way, saving him. Grimlock realized the error of his ways and the Dinobots forced the Decepticons into retreat. Grimlock apologized for his jealousy.

The Decepticons joined forces with [[Sub-Atlantica]] and staged a full-scale attack on [[Washington, D.C.]]. The Autobots were overwhelmed, forcing Wheeljack to call for the Dinobots' assistance. Grimlock expressed his frustration at being called whenever the Autobots were in over their heads. With their help, the Autobots were able to overturn the Decepticons' advance and plunge the city of Sub-Atlantica, burning, into the sea. This pattern of the Autobots' dependence on the Dinobots repeated when the artificial intelligence [[TORQ III]] turned machines against mankind. With every piece of help he and his troops gave, Grimlock was never slow to add a scathing remark about the inabilities of the Autobots. That said, he was not unwilling to admit the failings of his own troops, either, and willingly took them to the time-displaced "Dinobot Island," where they trained in the wilderness and helped stop a Decepticon raid on the prehistoric paradise.

The final straw for Grimlock came when he and the Dinobots were injured in a Decepticon trap at an airfield. Enraged, Grimlock refused to take orders from Optimus Prime any more, and led the Dinobots away from the Ark. When the Autobots began to suffer from Cybertonium deficiency, Spike Witwicky and his girlfriend Carly attempted to persuade the Dinobots - who continued to function perfectly, as they had been built on Earth without Cybertonium - to steal some of the mineral from a Decepticon shipment coming in from Cybertron. Grimlock instead opted to lead the Dinobots to Cybertron itself, where they were captured by [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and put to work in the Cybertonium mines, until Spike and Carly rescued them. Brought back to Earth, the Dinobots agreed to follow Prime's order again - until such time as Grimlock didn't feel like it.

By the Earth year 2005, it seemed apparent that Grimlock had undergone some degree of a personality change, becoming more childish and petulant, rather than brutish and stubborn. Throughtout 2006, he regularly participated in missions with his fellow Autobots rather than the other Dinobots, battling on the planets of [[Chaar]], Goo, Dredd and Eurythma. He and [[Daniel Witwicky]] were transported to the sorcerous other-dimensional realm of Menonia, where Grimlock was duped into fighting on the side of the tyrannical [[Quintesson]], the Red Wizard, and later, he helped to sniff out the "dinosaur transform static" that implicated [[Trypticon]] in the theft of world monuments. Later in the year, when Decepticon leader [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] had Cybertron infused with function-inverting anti-electrons, a dose of the particles gave Grimlock super-intelligence. During a mission to [[Unicron]]'s disembodied head, where the Autobots were outmatched by the new Decepticon [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]], Grimlock used components of Unicron's head to construct the [[Technobot|Technobots]] to battle them. Combined as Computron, the Technobots felt they could not match the Terrorcons, until Grimlock transferred his super-intelligence into Computron, reverting to his old self and allowing the Technobots to claim victory.

Grimlock's greatest victory came when he and a large number of other Transformers with animal transformations were summoned to a world at the centre of the galaxy by the ex-assistant of the ancient genius, [[Primacron]], creator of Unicron. The assistant had assembled these "Primitive" Transformers in the hope that their simple instincts could defeat Primacron's newest creation, [[Tornedron]], but one by one they fell to him, with Grimlock apparently crushed under [[Trypticon]]. Grimlock survived, however, and followed Tornedron back to Primacron's lab. When Tornedron turned on his master, like his predecessor, Primacron's complicated plans and equations could not find a way to stop him; Grimlock, on the other hand, randomly flicked a switch which reversed Tornedron's energy polarity, undoing the damage he and done and dissipating. After [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] destroyed a caché of Energon the Dynobots had been hoarding, causing them severe Energon burns and causing them to feel humiliated, they swore revenge. And so, against orders from Optimus Prime, they followed Shockwave when he left Cybertron to stablise "Ultra-Energon" deposits he had sent to other worlds as a precaution against the depletion of Cybertron's own Energon reserves.

When Shockwave reached his first destination - Earth, at the end of the last Ice Age - the Dynobots destroyed his ship and took on dinosaur alternate modes with synthetic flesh coatings to protect against the high levels of Energon radiation (see also [[Beast Wars]]), Grimlock having rejected the suggestion of a mammoth alternate mode as not at all palatable (but got plenty excited at the notion of a Tyrannosaurus mode).

On transporting down to the planet's surface to confront Shockwave, they gained an initial advantage, as Shockwave's logic was unable to comprehend the effort and risks they had taken for their revenge. However, when Shockwave recognised this weakness shut down his logic processors and operated a "rage" program to enable him to operate on pure instinct, he shrugged off their attacks and beat them severely, ending by burning off their organic coatings. Unable to accept another defeat, Grimlock transformed to robot mode and fought against his immenent [[stasis lock]] to no avail.

However, before leaving the Dynobots' ship, he had enabled a "dead man's switch", designed to take Shockwave with them if they were defeated. On entering stasis lock, this failsafe activated, firing on a nearby dormant volcano, causing an eruption which buried Shockwave and the Dynobots under ash and lava.

In 2005, after being mortally wounded in battle with [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] was left to float aimlessly through space. He was summoned by [[Unicron]], who offered him a new body and new troops to command, so long as he destroyed the Autobot [[Matrix]] of Leadership. Megatron reluctantly accepted and was upgraded into '''Galvatron''', a more fearsome and powerful warrior.

Galvatron quickly retook command of the Decepticons after killing the traitorous [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] in the middle of his coronation as the Decepticons' new leader. He then went to Earth and attacked [[Autobot City]], full-force. [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] lead him away from Earth and Galvatron chased him to the [[Junkion (planet)|Planet of Junk]], where he defeated Magnus and took the Matrix, intending to use it against Unicron.

Galvatron could not open the Matrix, however, and as punishment for his treachery, Unicron swallowed him whole. Inside Unicron's belly, he met up with [[Hot Rod]], and they got into a fight. Hot Rod snatched the Matrix away from Galvatron, and managed to open it, leading to his transformation into Rodimus Prime. Flush with new power, Rodimus hurled Galvatron's ass out through the side of Unicron and into deep space. But that was not the end of Galvatron.

In the year 2006 (or 2010, if you're Japanese), [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] set out to find their lost leader and return the Decepticons to glory. They found him sunk in a lava pit on the distant planet [[Thrull]] and managed to free him. However, the effects of the "plasma bath" royally screwed-up Galvatron's sanity chips, turning him certifiably nuts. Upon regaining his freedom he beat Cyclonus and Scourge up and completely destroyed Thrull.

Galvatron lead the Decepticons on many wacky adventures against the Autobots, though usually botching it in the end due to his craziness (he loved shooting his own troops). At one point, his nuttiness became so severe, the perpetually-loyal Cyclonus actually tricked Galvatron into taking therapy sessions (albeit, by force) on [[Torkulon]], the therapy-planet. After trying to murder a shrink during a word-association session, and somehow building a gun in a basket-weaving class, Galvatron was deemed incurable by conventional methods. The doctors attempted to use living extensions of the planet to give him a lobotomy (much to Cyclonus' disapproval), but Galvatron broke free and murdered the sentient organic core of the planet. After that, he razed the entire planet's civilization, leaving them so broken it would take centuries to rebuild.

However, despite his insanity, he teamed-up with the resurrected [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] to stop the [[Hate Plague]]. He wound-up becoming infected by the plague and attempted to kill an unconscious Optimus Prime with a spear. Optimus woke up just in the nick of time and opened the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]] directly in Galvatron's face. The wisdom of the Matrix not only cured the Universe of the Hate Plague, but cured Galvatron of his madness, as well. Grateful, Galvatron sanely declared "There will be no war today, Optimus. You have earned Galvatron's respect" and called a brief truce.

Later, Galvatron called the truce off and led an assualt on Autobot City, searching for the Key to the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]]. He got the Key and intended to use it and the Plasma Energy to turn Cybertron into a mobile dreadnaut. He teamed with the Transformer-[[Nebulan]] hybrid, [[Scorponok (G1)|Lord Zarak]], but they were eventually defeated and sent tumbling through space when Cybertron ushered in a new Golden Age. After regaining control, Galvatron vowed to collect energy all over the galaxy and return to Cybertron, though Scorponok seemed to question his leadership.

In 2011, Galvatron reactivated the Decepticon [[Space Bridge]] on Cybertron and began a sneak-attack on the Autobots. He intended to hack into [[Vector Sigma]], though was thwarted just in time. The battle did result in yet another death for Optimus Prime.

Later Scorponok, Galvatron's new mysterious assistant from [[Master (planet)|Planet Master]], went against Galvatron's orders and placed bombs all around Vector Sigma. Galvatron rushed to Vector Sigma but could not deactivate the bombs in time and was caught in the ensuing explosion, which was powerful enough to destroy Cybertron.

Galvatron was thought dead for some time, until he returned alive and well a few months later. He retook command of the Decepticons and enacted a new devious plot. Galvatron intended to transform Earth into his new Unicron-like body, making him all-powerful. He told this news only to his most trusted warrior, [[Sixshot (G1)|Sixshot]], and also delivered the news that he intended to sacrifice all the Decepticons for parts to build the body. Not a good idea, as Sixshot betrayed him to Scorponok and Galvatron was left all alone to Battle the Autobot [[Headmasters]] in the North Pole. Galvatron was defeated by the "Head-Formation of Friendship" and buried alive deep within an iceberg.

Galvatron would remain buried in the ice until he was resurrected by [[Dark Nova]] as the new and improved [[Megatron (G1)#Battlestars: Return of Convoy (Japan-only)|Super Megatron]].

Some fans are preoccupied with the notion of Galvatron being a psychologically distinct and discontinuous entity from Megatron, almost (or, some would have it, equally) as much as [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] and [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] demonstrate no continuity of memory or personality to their former Decepticon selves. Oddly, this remains a topic of heated debate in some circles, in spite of a fairly unambiguous canon.

In the G1 animated continuity, Galvatron evidently still self-identifies as being the same person as Megatron, albeit with greater power and a new name. Although not making a point of revealing this former identity to his troops at large (perhaps to cast off the potential stigma of being a "defeated" leader), Galvatron makes his sense of self clear when Starscream asks "Megatron? Is that you?", to which he replies "Here's a hint" before obliterating him.<ref>Some fans claim the "Here's a hint" line is a point in favor of Galvatron ''not'' being Megatron, instead of the far more likely intended affirmation, since Megatron "would never kill Starscream." While some might contrast this statement, however, with his earlier line, "I shall crush you, just as Megatron crushed Prime,", interpreting that such a statement implies a disconnect from his former life, this too can easily be explained by Galvatron's apparent reluctance to allow his troops know that he used to be Megatron. While Galvatron would have fully expected the knowledge imparted in the later statement to Hot Rod to die with the callow youth, the declaration to Ultra Magnus was made in public, with his troops (and, potentially, other Autobots in earshot) present.

During season three, however, Galvatron made little or no further references to his past life as Megatron, though this could be a side effect of lying in a pool of lava for several months and his increasing insanity. However, an absence of references do not neccessarily constitute a change in identification. Upon meeting the resurrected Optimus Prime in ''The Return of Optimums Prime'', Galvatron behaved as though simply picking up where he left off with his old nemesis from his Megatron days, as did Prime, saying that he knew him "all too well", indicating that the Autobot leader was capable of recognising his former adversary despite the change in name and appearance. Furthermore, in ''Five Faces of Darkness'', Astrotrain states that Megatron and Galvatron are "the same guy," implying that during Galvatron's absence, the other Decepticons (or, at the very least, Astrotrain) figured out what was going on.

In the US and UK Marvel comics the various time-hopping Galvatrons all demonstrate an awareness of having previously been Megatron with no strong indicators of a break in psychological identification. Indeed, at one point, a Galvatron said outright, "Like Megatron? No - I AM Megatron!" The closest that these Galvatrons came to identity crisis were incidents in which a time-displaced Galvatron was confronted by Megatrons (or copies thereof) and did battle with his former self. Although in these instances Galvatron experiences trains of thought that suggest he sees Megatron as a separate being and/or the source of his madness that needs to be destroyed, it should be noted that these are not the musings of a calm, rational mind. In these instances Galvatron is in the grips of a psychotic episode, which he generally snaps out of by realising that he is indeed the same person. These instances should be seen as the result of deranged reasoning tinged perhaps with self-loathing or the personification of personal flaws and/or failings with his past self, not as proof of a complete psychological separation of characters.

A possible explanation for why (any version of) Galvatron retains psychological continuity with Megatron while his fellow Unicron-creations do not may be that [[Thundercracker]] et al were apparently already dead or in total stasis-lock at the time of their reformatting, and thus it is widely speculated that only their bodies were used to create Cyclonus and company. Whether this indicates that they retained their sparks and merely suffered total mind-wipes (either as the result of recent death or by Unicron's doing), or if Unicron actually infused their reformatted bodies with new life-forces is unknown. (On the other hand, none of the other Unicron-created Decepticons have faced their past selves or deeds the way Galvatron has.) Megatron, by comparison, was clearly alive and awake at the time of his reformatting and struck a bargain with Unicron for "a new body", a deal which clearly implies that his mind would remain his own.

Another indication of Galvatron's enduring sense of self-identification as still being Megatron was demonstrated in the Japanese-exclusive ''[[Battlestars]]'' series, upon being resurrected and further upgraded Galvatron reverted to the name Megatron once more (as [[Megatron (G1)#Battlestars: Return of Convoy (Japan-only)|Super Megatron]]).

'''Megatron''' has one goal -- restoring glory and power to the Predacon race, with himself at the helm. What distinguishes Megatron from the countless others who share this goal at various volumes is his chutzpah. He is willing to risk everything -- time, space, himself -- if need be.

Megatron is skillful at orchestrating vast schemes by manipulating others into doing them for him -- an idle suggestion here, a conspicuously-planted object of interest there. He knows his enemies inside and out and exactly how to provoke them. He has no friends, only pawns. Because of this attitude, this superiority complex, he despises working with the very troops he needs to carry out his plans. His hubris does not make him very popular, and so he must rely on power and fear to rule them.

Megatron is a gambler and can sometimes be a ham. (His manner of saying "Yesss..." is practically vaudevillian.) He has a twisted sense of humor and an over-developed sense of drama which rule everything he conceives, both long and short term. When he destroys you, he wants you to know that it was he who did this, and just how badly you were had. This is his greatest weakness. Like a Bond villain, he'll gladly boast to the hero at length about how smart and clever he was, giving his victim time to formulate a counterattack. He often sabotages himself by neglecting the quick and easy solutions for the bigger, meaner, and more complex.

Prior to the signing of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], Megatron was a field commander in the Predacon army, where he learned much about strategy and tactics. Upon ratification of peace with the [[Maximal Imperium]] most Predacons laid down their arms. Megatron refused and went rogue.

On Cybertron, Megatron wore removeable transformable armor, which transformed into a missile-launching armored platform, over his basic bodyframe. This quickly-discarded outer shell was possibly used to comply with the ratification of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], which required Predacons to lay down their arms. A Predacon field commander before the peace, Megatron refused to comply with these new regulations and struck out on his own to destroy the [[Maximal Imperium]].

With some [[Cryotek|help]] from [[Divebomb (G1)|various sources]], he assembled a crew of ragtag criminals and miscreants for the purpose of stealing the Golden Disk and using it to find [[Earth]]. Succeeding in stealing the disk, he, [[Dinobot (BW)|his lieutenant]], and [[Scorponok (BW)|another accomplice]] fought their way out of the [[Archives]], eliminating [[Unit 1|one guard]] and dodging [[Tigatron|another]]. They were swiftly picked up by the ''[[Darksyde]]'', a ship stolen by the rest of their crew.

Megatron instructed [[Tarantulas]] to study the disk for the coordinates of Earth while the ''Darkside'' battled its several pursuers. Although they were followed by the Maximal ships [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']] and the ''[[Chromia 10]]'', the ''Darksyde''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s mission was also aided by a third ship crewed by the Predacon agents [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] and [[Buzzsaw (G1)|Buzzsaw]]. Though the ''Chromia 10'' and the Predacon ship were destroyed, the ''Darksyde'' was still followed by the ''Axalon''. After stealing the Maximal relic, the [[Golden Disk]], and [[Darksyde|a ship]], he and his crew were followed through a [[transwarp]] portal by the [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']]. After crashing on a planet that was supposed to be [[Earth]], yet seemingly wasn't, both the Maximals and the Predacons took organic beast forms to protect themselves against the massive amount of Energon radiation. Megatron now transformed into a purple ''Tyrannosaurus rex''.

Dinobot chastised Megatron, accusing him of leading the Predacons to the wrong planet and challenged Megatron for leadership of the Predacons. Megatron simply ignored the challenge and had Scorponok dispose of him. {{storylink|Beast Wars, Part 1}}

Despite the loss of a formidable crony, Megatron positioned himself on the new world and the "Beast Wars" began. Being on a world filled with Energon allowed [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]] to find a superhorde, and power himself to great levels. With this power, Terrorsaur was able to demolish Megatron in battle and take over the Predacons. However, through the Maximals' actions, the superhorde was destroyed. Again, Terrorsaur tried to usurp Megatron, this time using an apparently-turned [[Rattrap]], who used a device to paralyze Megatron. The Predacons argued over who would be leader, but agreed to put Rattrap and Megatron away for the time being. Megatron was able to easily escape using his secret vioce commands, leaving Rattrap to his fate. Revealing himself to have escaped, Megatron allowed Terrorsaur to lead the Predacons in battle with the Maximals. Megatron later formulated a plan to get off Earth. First, he had the other Predacons act dissatisfied with his leadership, causing a battle that apaprently destroyed the Predacons, using a Maximal spy camera that he was aware of to play out the trick. Then, the Maximals scavenged the ''Darksyde'' for parts to repair the ''Axalon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s stardrive. Dinobot discovered the deception and rushed to warn the leaving Maximals. In the scuffle, Megatron sneaked aboard. In the ''Axalon'', he managed to knock out every Maximal on the ship but Rattrap, who he started crushing to death. Using technology of his own devising and of [[Cryotek]]'s, he took over the entire planet, and stored the [[spark]] of every last inhabitant under his citadel.

When the Maximals arrived in their shuttle, they found the planet empty aside from countless [[Vehicon|mindless drones]] controlled by Megatron. Megatron's drones immediately bombarded the Maximals with [[devolving gas]] to revert their powerful [[Transmetal]] bodies to normal beast mode bodies, and they were also affected by a [[transformation lock]] virus which Megatron had used to help him conquer the planet in the first place.

Despite his best efforts, the Maximals escaped, and learned to transform again after Primal used the [[Oracle]]'s power to [[reformatting|reformat]] them. They began making short work of his Vehicons, so he removed three sparks from his collection to create [[Vehicon generals]] which could think on their feet in battle. For the generals he chose sparks of Transformers that the Maximals already knew, such that if they ever discovered the sparks' identities, they would be reluctant to destroy them: [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]] became [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]], [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] became [[Tankor]], and [[Waspinator]] became [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]].

Ultimately, Megatron succeeded in capturing the sparks of all the Maximals, leaving just Optimus Primal and himself as the only two Transformers on the entire planet. At the end of a fierce one-on-one fight, in which Megatron wore a copy of the powerful Optimal Optimus body, Megatron began consuming his amassed sparks, growing ever more powerful. However, when he attempted to use the [[Key to Vector Sigma]] to transform the planet's [[organic core]] into [[technomatter]], Primal managed to dislodge them both. Laserbeak is also an interrogator, though he is rarely depicted in that role, more often seen (or rather not seen) as a spy, roosting on some obscure perch, playing voyeur and eavesdropping on Autobot conversations. His backpack features two ruby-powered independently-targetable lasers that he uses to torture his subjects with. He's a coward, though, and when his ruby supplies run low, he transforms from ruthless condor to squawking chicken.

Laserbeak was among [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]'s attack party which attacked the [[Autobot]]s aboard the [[Ark]], crashing on [[Earth]] 4 million years ago. When the Autobots and Decepticons were revived in 1984, Laserbeak was given the [[alternate mode]] of a red cassette tape. He aided the Decepticons in their building of their new base constructed of parts from [[Harrison Nuclear Power Plant]] and joined in their attack on [[Sparkplug Witwicky]]'s auto repair shop, where he got shot in the face by [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]].

Though Laserbeak can speak, he stopped displaying this ability around the time that [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] arrived to reverse the Autobots' seemingly final victory over the Decepticons in a desperate last stand at the Ark. During Shockwave's rule, he sent [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] (with Laserbeak stowed) to infiltrate [[Blackrock Aerospace Plant Number One]], where they were carried inside in cassette deck mode by plant workers [[Ferdy and Gabe]]. Unlike the [[Seeker]]s, Soundwave, Laserbeak, and the other animal cassettes remained more loyal to Megatron than to Shockwave, and so when the former Decepticon leader was discovered in a coal mine, they arrived swiftly to refuel and reclaim him. {{storylink|I, Robot-Master!}} One of Megatron's first acts upon returning to the Decepticons was to attack the Ark while seemingly all of the Autobots were attacking the Decepticon base, and he took the the Seekers and all of the cassette Decepticons (minus Ravage) with him. Unfortunately, the Ark was now defended by the newly-built [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]]. All of the attacking Decepticons except for Laserbeak and Megatron were obliterated, and it was only thanks to the wounded Laserbeak that he and the Decepticon leader escaped with their lives. Prior to his arrival on Earth, Laserbeak had less of an avian shape, resembling instead a stylized jet with an ovoid silhouette and a hooked nosecone. He still transformed into a cassette, which is kind of strange when you consider his "carrier" transformed into a lamp-post and not necessarily any device that played cassettes. But anyway, this Laserbeak often carried out spy missions, able to sneak into places the larger [[Soundwave]] could not manage, including Iacon, the Autobots headquarters. There, Laserbeak learned of the Autobot mission to seek out new sources of energy away from Cybertron, which prompted a Decepticon interception mission in turn. This led to the whole lot of these spacefaring Transformers crashlanding on Earth and taking a four million-year dirtnap in the heart of a spastic volcano.

In the year 1984, the Transformers were awakened by volcanic activity, and Laserbeak was reformatted with terrestrial aesthetics in both robot and alt-mode. His alt-mode was an audiocassette, while his alt-mode was that of a vulture. His missions, though, were largely unchanged, and he continued to serve as a spy even though his techspec classifies him more as an interrogator and his fellow winged vulture [[Buzzsaw]] is described as the spy.

Laserbeak was the first Decepticon to tangle with Autobots on Earth when he was dispatched by Soundwave and [[Megatron]] to chase down to snooping Autobot spies, [[Hound]] and [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]]. The Autobots tried to scurry away, splitting up so that Laserbeak couldn't follow both of them. He had the last laugh (or squawk) on them, as he launched one of his laser cannons to follow Cliffjumper remotely while he continued to hound Hound.

In the year 2005, after an abortive attack on [[Autobot City]], the evil [[Decepticons]] found it necessary to jettison excess weight from their craft to make it back to their homeworld of [[Cybertron]]. The injured and dying Decepticons were chosen to be ejected into the void of space, including the commander, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], but when their bodies were recovered by the world-eater, [[Unicron]], they were reborn as deadly new warriors in the service of the recreated Megatron, now known as [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]].

Immediately following his creation, Cyclonus served as little more than Galvatron’s personal ship and attack dog, carrying his leader to [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]’s coronation, into the battle in [[Autobot City]] and to the [[Junkion (planet)|planet of Junk]], attacking and crippling the shuttle of [[Hot Rod]] and [[Kup]] in the midst of it all. After the destruction of Unicron, however, when Galvatron was lost, Cyclonus came into his own, his loyalty to the Decepticons’ absent leader shaping his character in different ways.

Disgusted with how far the leaderless Decepticons had fallen as they eked out a miserable existence on the barren world of [[Chaar]], Cyclonus resolved to locate Galvatron, daring even to enter Unicron’s deactivated, disembodied head and replaying its memory banks, tracing Galvatron to the world of [[Thrull]]. Unfortunately, once extricated from a pool of the planet’s plasma-lava, Galvatron proved to have been driven insane from exposure to it and brutalised Cyclonus and the [[Sweep]]s before being talked down and returned to his position as leader.

Some time later, outnumbered and fleeing from the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbot]]s, Cyclonus and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] took refuge inside a vortex, which transported them to the pacifistic, energy-rich planet of [[Paradron (planet)|Paradron]], which had been settled by Cybertronian refugees. Naturally, the duo immediately overthrew the planet and summoned Galvatron and the other Decepticons there; the plan was ultimately foiled by the Autobots, but at the cost of Paradron itself, which was destroyed. Cyclonus later had his body possessed by the ghost of the deceased Decepticon, Starscream, and went on to clash with Ultra Magnus again aboard the Autobot records asteroid with the fate of [[Daniel Witwicky]] in the balance.

[[Image:Cyclonus_alt.jpg|left|thumb|Starscream's possesion warped more then his mind]]When a group of Decepticons, tired of being beaten and abused by the deranged Galvatron, confronted Cyclonus and demanded that he do something about the situation, Cyclonus was so short on options that he accepted the advice of a Quintesson, and tricked Galvatron into accompanying him to the therapeutic mental institution on planet [[Torkulon]]. It pained Cyclonus to see his leader so demented as each attempted therapy met with failure, but when the Torkuli attempted to cure Galvatron by removing the damaged part of his mind, thereby leaving him a vegetable, Cyclonus sprang into action, only to be restrained. Patched into the sentient network of the planet, rather than be cured, Galvatron infected the world itself with his madness and freed himself, decimating the planet and decided to turn his attention back to fighting the Autobots, rather than dwell on Cyclonus’s deception.

Later, Cyclonus was among the Transformers turned into an energy vampire by the [[Trans-Organic]] [[Dweller]], thrown to the beast by Galvatron to delay his own fate – though he hesitated for a moment before fleeing, almost repentant for his action. Later still, he, along with a group of Autobots and Quintessons, were transported into a region of space cordoned off by the Quintessons, landing on the planet [[Zamojin]], where Cyclonus aided the Quintessons in acquiring [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]]’s [[Universal Emulator]], in order to repair their systems and return to normal space. When the [[Hate Plague]] swept the universe, Cyclonus was infected and took leadership of the afflicted Decepticons, hunting down Galvatron and tracking him and a group of Autobots into the depths of Chaar and infected scientist [[Jessica Morgan]].

When the chamber was then opened, the energy released blasted the key and a group of Autobots across the galaxy to the planet [[Nebulos]], and Cyclonus and Scourge led a team of Decepticons in pursuit, attacking and capturing several of the Autobots. To battle them, the remaining Autobots combined with a group of Nebulan rebels into “[[Headmaster]]s” and bested them in combat. Having learned of his fusion of Transformer and Nebulan, the [[Hive]], the evil ruling council of Nebulos, approached the Decepticons to repeat the process, but Cyclonus argued them down to taking the heads of only the animal-mode Decepticons, and merely the weapons of the others.

Consequently, Cyclonus became a [[Targetmaster]] as his handgun was converted into an exo-suit for the Hive member [[Nightstick]], giving them enhanced targeting abilities and firepower. Reclaiming the chamber key with their superior powers, the Decepticons headed back to Cybertron aboard the giant robot [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], where Cyclonus attempted to convince the disgusted Galvatron of the benefits of being bonded to the Nebulans. The Autobots soon arrived back on Cybertron and invaded Scorponok, only to be captured by the Decepticons, and almost executed by Cyclonus before being saved by [[Spike Witwicky]] and [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]]. The Decepticons’ plan was subsequently thwarted by Spike and the Nebulans, and they were sent spiralling off through space aboard Scorponok by a tendril of plasma energy.

====Who is Cyclonus?====

[[Image:Cyclonus_tf1.jpg|left|thumb|Bombshell and Skywarp]]When the injured Decepticons are transformed by Unicron, two identical Cyclonus robots are simultaneously created (as opposed to Scourge and the Sweeps, who were created one after the other in short order) – in the foreground, the [[Insecticon]], [[Bombshell]], becomes one, while in the background, Decepticon jet [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] becomes another. The dialogue which accompanies this scene claims that we are seeing "Cyclonus... and his [[Armada (G1)|armada]]." But, clearly, one warrior does not make an armada – the line is, in fact, a carry over from the original script, in which Cyclonus was intended to have multiple identical duplicates, in the same way that Scourge had the Sweeps.

However, the idea was apparently abandoned right after this scene – the second Cyclonus immediately disappears for the remainder of the film and is retroactively replaced with a third Sweep (although despite this, some fans choose not discount the existence of the second Cyclonus, and, somewhat irreverently, refer to him as a second character actually named "Armada"). The only other instances of duplicate Cyclonus robots are in ''Five Faces of Darkness, Part Five'' and ''The Quintesson Journal'', but these examples are generally discounted by fans due to the episodes' infamously poor, error-riddled animation (though it could be argued that if Bombshell were Cyclonus, he could have retained his Insecticon cloning ability to create these extra copies of himself).

Fan opinion is split on the subject. Bombshell is favored by some for being in the foreground of the transformation scene, thereby intended by the animation to be Cyclonus, while Skywarp is preferred by others primarily because becoming an expendable Sweep seems an ill-fitting end for one of the original Decepticons. Patched into the sentient network of the planet, rather than be cured, Galvatron infected the world itself with his madness and freed himself, decimating the planet and decided to turn his attention back to fighting the Autobots, rather than dwell on Cyclonus’s deception.

Later, Cyclonus was among the Transformers turned into an energy vampire by the [[Trans-Organic]] [[Dweller]], thrown to the beast by Galvatron to delay his own fate – though he hesitated for a moment before fleeing, almost repentant for his action. Later still, he, along with a group of Autobots and Quintessons, were transported into a region of space cordoned off by the Quintessons, landing on the planet [[Zamojin]], where Cyclonus aided the Quintessons in acquiring [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]]’s [[Universal Emulator]], in order to repair their systems and return to normal space. When the [[Hate Plague]] swept the universe, Cyclonus was infected and took leadership of the afflicted Decepticons, hunting down Galvatron and tracking him and a group of Autobots into the depths of Chaar and infected scientist [[Jessica Morgan]].

The Autobots soon arrived back on Cybertron and invaded Scorponok, only to be captured by the Decepticons, and almost executed by Cyclonus before being saved by [[Spike Witwicky]] and [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]]. The Decepticons’ plan was subsequently thwarted by Spike and the Nebulans, and they were sent spiralling off through space aboard Scorponok by a tendril of plasma energy.

An alternate version of Cyclonus later made a brief appearance, inhabiting an alternate future world of 2009 where Cybertron had been destroyed and Galvatron ruled Earth. In this future world, Cyclonus failed to stop an Autobot/human rebel invasion of the main Decepticon base, and was destroyed by an enraged Galvatron for his failure.

As the rag-tag group of Autobots known as the [[Wreckers]] attempted to flee Cybertron, but found their way to their spaceship barred by Vehicon drones, the trio came to their aid, joining the team and departing Cybertron with them. Cyclonus, like the other new characters created for ''Transformers: The Movie'', was designed for animation first, and had his toy based on these designs. However, as with the other characters, the toy was based on an earlier design, most notably featuring folded back wings, while his animation model underwent further modifications before being finalised.
