:Frenzy is a Decepticon from the Movie continuity family.

Frenzy is small, sneaky and... likes to keep up on current events. He's a hyper-articulated, hyper-active, sentient evil alien shape-changing robot from outer space that turns into various small electronics devices, depending on the situation at hand, and has a penchant for pantsing people. But he doesn't shrink (because that would be unrealistic), so he's quite a good contortionist. He's not that tough without his head though, and he loses it frequently. In short, he's a creepy little abomination, with an irritating habit of reading over people's shoulders and jibbering at lightning speeds in his own tongue (not that we could understand him if he was talking slowly, but you get the idea).

There are two rather unique aspects to Frenzy. First he switches alt modes all the time, never settling with just one. Secondly, he is nearly impossible to kill. His physiology is unique, with every part of him capable of surviving on its own, and apparently containing his spark.

Yes-yes-yes! Megatron-Megatron-Megatron!

Fiction
Ghosts of Yesterday novel
Frenzy is the smallest member of the Nemesis' crew. He likes to sneak-attack Autobots from behind while they're concentrating on his larger teammates. He doesn't fare well in this particular battle but is presumably repaired at some future point.

Transformers the Game
On Cybertron, Frenzy was seen digging through the mangled and twitching chassis of a dead Autobot. It's unlikely he was digging through it to find the All Spark. Megatron nearly crushed him under his foot. It is entirely possible that he was annoyed with Frenzy.

Frenzy arrived in Tranquility to meet up with Barricade possessing information that Starscream said was vital. When Barricade attempted to link up with him, he discovered that Frenzy had been captured by some armed humans. Frenzy was held captive in a small SUV (which seemed virtually indestructible) but Barricade eventually rescued him. Barricade later relayed to Starscream that Frenzy had discovered a lead on the All Spark and Megatron...an artifact in the possession of a human named Sam.

Later, he served as Starscream's intelligence liason when the Decepticon's Acting-Commander was searching for Brawl and Bonecrusher, jabbering away in his own language (A translation is NOT subtitled directly, with Frenzy being the only character to NOT speak English in the game. He just wants to be different...or annoying).

Transformers: Autobots/Decepticons
Frenzy only appears in the opening sequence of the game, digging through the remains of another Transformer. Megatron nearly steps on him (most likely from getting tired of that creepy little bastard) but scurries away. He never shows up for the rest of the game, most likely meaning that the other Decepticons left him on Cybertron. I don't blame them.

Transformers (2007) film
:Voice actor: Reno Wilson (English)

A skittering little spaz, Frenzy smuggled himself aboard Air Force One disguised as a CD player boom-box. He made his way to the lower decks, carried by an unsuspecting flight attendant who was on a vital mission to the storage area to "wrangle up some Ding-Dongs" for the President. Once left alone, he got into the server area and began to work his magic, simultaneously hacking the national database and uploading a virus, re-attempting the hack that Blackout had tried at the SOCCENT Base in Qatar earlier. This attempt was discovered by government agent Maggie Madsen, and the defense network was shut down in order to halt the hack. Frenzy was so pissed he slammed his head into the screen, but he'd managed to finish uploading the virus, which would later shut down global communications, and got a little bit of info on what he was looking for.

He was discovered by Secret Service agents, whom he quickly dispatched with his machine guns and disc-blade launcher before hiding away in boom-box form again. When Air Force One landed, he escaped through the landing gear, slipping into the awaiting Decepticon Barricade. (Real good job keeping an eye out, Secret Service.) After and bitching about how the "stupid insects" shot at him, he informed Barricade of his new discovery: the Witwicky man who had suspiciously displayed knowledge of Cybetronian writing. After a quick web search using Barricade's on-board police department laptop, Frenzy determined their next target...a human called "LadiesMan217" who was in possession of the Witwicky man's glasses, which in turn could lead them to the <strike>Precious</strike> All Spark.

When Barricade was forced to go to robot mode in order to handle Bumblebee, he released Frenzy to chase the humans the Autobot was guarding. Frenzy tackled his primary target and even managed to get his pants off (Kinky!), but the female human attacked him with a power saw she'd found and cut off his head. To add insult to injury, LadiesMan217 punted the Decepticon's head away. It was actually to Frenzy's benefit, however, as he landed not too far from the female's purse, which had spilled when Bumblebee had dumped them out earlier. Still alive and ambulatory despite losing most of his body mass, he speared and scanned the female's cell phone, changed his form to match it, and hid out in her purse.

Frenzy stayed hidden, watching the activities of the humans, including their meeting with Optimus Prime and the Autobots. Taken to LadiesMan217's house, Frenzy poked his head out to better observe, but was frightened by some aquatic lifeforms LadiesMan217 had. Frenzy poked one of his optics out when the glasses were discovered, but remained hidden during the subsequent encounter with Sector Seven. Arriving at Hoover Dam, Frenzy slipped away...and fell off the side of the dam, landing painfully at the bottom. This allowed him to sneak into the secret Sector Seven operations hangar deep within the dam, where both the All Spark and Megatron had been kept for nearly a hundred years. Tapping into the All Spark's power, he restored his body, then sent a message to Starscream, telling him that their prizes were here. As Starscream mobilized all the Decepticons on Earth, Frenzy set about the task of releasing his master. He went and killed a few technicians, letting him screw with the cryo-stasis machines that kept Megatron entombed, while Starscream destroyed the power lines outside, allowing the Decepticon leader to escape.

As Megatron and Starscream went to assist the rest of the Decepticons in securing the All Spark, Frenzy remained at the dam to tie up any loose ends. When Agent Simmons, Secretary Keller, Maggie and Glen Whitmann ran to an ancient storage room to try and get a Morse Code message to the Air Force via shortwave radio, Frenzy followed. While Glen jury-rigged outdated machinery to send the messages, Simmons and Keller tried to shoot the diminutive Decepticon. Frenzy made it into the room via the air ducts and sent a series of flying blades at the humans. One, however, ricocheted madly across the room, and took out most of Frenzy's head. With a muttered "oh shit," Frenzy collapsed.

: Included with the larger Deluxe Barricade is a very out-of-scale Frenzy (putting him somewhere around 7 feet tall) that folds up to become the larger 'Con's grill in both vehicle and robot mode. It is barely poseable and falls over as easily as Generation 1 Ravage.
Fast Action Battlers
*Disc Blast Decepticon Frenzy (Fast Action Battler, 2007)

: Like most of the Fast Action Battler toys, this one is fairly inaccurate to the CGI model due to actually having to turn into something (which the CGI model was not designed to do). It does, however, feature a launching disk that ejects from its chest as a pressure-launched projectile. This version of Frenzy transforms into a two-speaker stereo CD/cassette/radio. It is completely off-model to the movie radio, which is probably due to the figure having been designed before the character's final alt mode was determined.

Robot Replicas
*Decepticon Frenzy (Robot Replicas, 2007)

: The Robot Replicas non-Transforming action figure of Frenzy is considerably closer to the movie's CGI model, even having blue optics rather than the red of most of his other toys. His left forearm can be replaced with an alternate forearm in its machinegun configuration.

: Frenzy is unique among the Robot Replicas in a couple of ways. First, he is the only one that does not use the Revoltech-style joints, owing likely to the thinness of his limbs. Secondly, he is the only one with an "action feature" gimmick of sorts; he comes with a CD-blade accessory that stores in his chest, and pushing a button on his back pops it out. The disc does not shoot very far though, unless you really give the button a firm, swift whack, and even then, you're not gonna get much airtime on it.

Non-transforming Screen Battles figures
*First Encounter (Screen Battles, 2007)

: This Screen Battles pack features a largely unchanged Deluxe class Barricade figure The only real difference is the Frenzy mini-figure, which is now cast entirely in black plastic, sports no paint applications and is supposed to be stuck permanently inside Barricade's chest thanks to a new, additional piece of plastic (as a matter of fact, the Frenzy figure is also neither advertised on the packaging nor depicted in the instructions). The pack also comes with unposable figurines of Sam Witwicky in a running pose, a rather in-scale Frenzy menacing Sam, and Mikaela holding the power saw she uses to attack Frenzy. The set is packaged in a special window box with a diorama depicting the battle between Barricade and Bumblebee. So even though this pack technically contains two Frenzy figures, Hasbro put a lot of effort into neutering one of them as good as they could.
*Autobot Jazz vs Decepticon Frenzy (Robot Heroes, 2007)

: Released with Robot Heroes Jazz, this version of Frenzy is the most adorably goofy razor blade death robot you ever saw.

Trivia
*Frenzy had three working names; Boombot was first, Soundwave was second, and Soundbyte was third.

*Frenzy is the only Decepticon with blue optic lighting, though most of his released toys have them painted red. It's possible this was a late-ish change, as even the mobile game has him sporting red optics. Thanks for continuing the debate, Michael Bay!

**Frenzy is the only Decepticon in the movie whose whole robot mode was created as a real physical puppet for filming, used in certain shots aboard Air Force One. (They did make the lower half of frozen Megatron as a set piece, plus Scorponok's head and tail, but that's not quite the same thing.) He and Bumblebee are the only Transformers in the film to have full-body robot mode props.

**Extra pieces of the Frenzy puppet, specifically some fingers, were used to make the charred prop of the "dead" Nokia robot.

**Frenzy (or at very least, a robot who looked just like him) was most certainly not in a cage in the back of the Sector Seven Mobile Command Unit. You were seeing things! It was swamp gas! No, wait—a weather balloon! But definitely not a robot alien from outer space!

*Frenzy transforms into a real on-the-market GPX portable stereo... in the movie, at least. You know you want one. (His Fast Action Battler toy, and various storybooks, depict him as made-up stereo models.)

*Frenzy's robot mode was designed without a specific alternate mode in mind. It was known he was going to be a boom-box, but the designers had to produce a robot mode before the make/model was finalized.

*Frenzy has surprisingly more English lines than most know. The list is; "Witwicky", "ladiesman217", "Go, go, go!", "Surprise!", "Where is it?!", "Yes(X5), Megatron(X3)!", "Oh! Megatron melting." and the ever-famous "Oh shit." The rest is all Cybertronian which are not even translated because they don't need to be. Those Cybertronian words, according to Michael Bay, are mostly "Tutankhamen" spoken in extremely high speed.

*Despite the "no size changing" rule for the movie, Frenzy arguably changes size when he takes the form of the Nokia 8800 Sirocco cellphone. The movie's writers have explained this away as a simple shifting and folding up of parts.

**Frenzy's blades, before unfolding, are disguised as CDs. Granted, most CDs don't have hinge points near their center.

**According to his profile card, Frenzy weighs 110 kilograms (242.5 pounds). How much of that mass would be discernible to a human lifting his stereo mode remains unclear. However, a human did indeed carry his stereo mode without much effort in the movie.

**The hardcover Movie Guide written by Simon Furman describes Frenzy as "quiet" and "not very talkative". Wonder what his definition of "chatty" is?

**As of January 2008, Frenzy is the only movie character to not have a Legends-class toy.

*According to Titan Magazines, Frenzy is nearly impossible to kill, as every part of him is alive Meaning the creepy git is never gonna go away!!!

*Its also stated he switches alts on a regular basis

Frenzy is small, sneaky and... likes to keep up on current events. He's a hyper-articulated, hyper-active, sentient evil alien shape-changing robot from outer space that turns into various small electronics devices, depending on the situation at hand, and has a penchant for pantsing people.
He is neither red nor blue. Despite being a Decepticon, his optics are blue, rather than being red. So maybe, FIBRIR can still be employed: Frenzy('s eyes) Is Blue, Rest Is Red

Archadis was a Predacon hitman hired by Magmatron to kill the Maximals scaling the highest peak on Greengard for an Angolmois capsule. True to form, Archadis was a snob, marveling at how wonderful it was to fly, an ability that the Maximals lacked. With his ability of flight, Archadis possessed the advantage in battle; the Maximals were stuck in the middle of their climb and didn't use their weapons out of fear of avalanches. After pummeling the other Maximals, Archadis deduced that, as Stampy was the one holding the rope that the other Maximals were attached to, all he would have to do was attack the helpless bunny. Using his "Ancient Avian Blade of the Dragon World", Archadis prepared to kill the Maximal. However, Stampy, inspired by his memories of his mother, was able to jump onto and off the moon and somersault into Arachdis, sending him blasting off and leaving his mask behind. Apparently, he didn't get the "million gold" reward. Will the Second Capsule Slumber in the Garden of Paradise?!

:Supreme Commander is a rank used through-out all eras of Japanese fiction

During Generation 1, the Supreme Commander was the absolute leader of the Autobots and, at first, sole bearer of the Matrix of Leadership. Later, Autobots were appointed the rank of Supreme Commander without having the Matrix passed down to them.

The Supreme Commander rank can be considered the Autobot version of the Decepticon rank of Emperor of Destruction.

By the era of the Beast Wars, the rank of Supreme Commander was appointed to high-ranking Maximal generals, usually of Convoy status. The task of ruling over the Maximal race as a whole was the job of the Maximal Elders.

Margaret "Maggie" Madsen is a young Australian analyst working for the the Department of Defense. She is quite possibly the only computer nerd in the world that goes to work in a miniskirt and high heels, and is able to pull it off. She also wears more lip gloss than any self-respecting Pentagon-assisting female technician should.

She is good friends with hacker extrodinaire Glen Whitmann.

spoiler

Maggie and her fellow analysts were present at an emergency briefing held at the Pentagon when Secretary of Defence Keller revealed that SOCCENT Forward Operations Base in Qatar was attacked by a mysterious and unidentified force, leaving no survivors. Pressing the point home to the young computer experts, Keller said that their enemy attempted to hack into the base's mainframe but failed, leaving them to the conclusion that they will try again. Catching's Maggie's attention was the only clue left at the base, a mysterious frequency encountered during the hack, one unlike any seen before.

While analysing the frequency for its origin, Maggie and her team discovered an hostile agent hacking into the mainframe of Air Force One, accessing almost the entire US military defense grid. With no way to stop the enemy, Maggie suggested disconnecting all their severs, which proved to be sucessful. Later, Maggie snuck into a confidential briefing between Keller and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. When one high-ranking officer commented that the attack might have come from North Korea or Russia, she interrupted, explaining that the capabilities of this enemy were far in advance of anything they've ever seen. She theorised the possibility of a living organism being the culprit, but Keller was unwilling to listen unless she provided evidence to back up her claims.

Frustrated at being stonewalled by the government and the military, Maggie copied the contents of the frequency data onto an SD memory card and left the Pentagon. Arriving at her friend Glen's house, she explained to him the dire consequences she would face if she was discovered with this information, and that he was the only hacker with the skills to access the information embedded within. His curiosity piqued, Glen proceeded to hack into the data, discovering images and files about something called Project: Iceman and an organisation named Sector Seven. Before they could view any more information, an FBI assault team crashed through the front door and arrested everybody in his house.

Held in a holding room at the Pentagon, Maggie observed Glen eat an entire plate of donuts while he pontificated his theory that the donuts were a test in character and guilt, for if one does not eat the donuts, one is guilty, and he for one has a totally clear conscience. When federal agents enter the room, Glen immediately cracks and accuses Maggie of all the wrong doing while casting himself in a sympathetic (if somewhat pathetic) light. Maggie told him to shut up as she explained she needed to speak to Keller and that they need to go about this crisis in a different direction before the United States goes to war with the wrong country.

Much later, as Glen is recovering from his donut binge with a bottle of Pepto Bismo, Keller suddenly enters the holding room, telling Maggie to come with him as an advisor, and allows Maggie to bring Glen along as her advisor. Soon on a Army Blackhawk helicopter bound for Hoover Dam, She and Glen find themselves with two teenagers, Sam and Mikaela. Attempting to break the ice, Sam initiates conversation, prompting her to ask him what did the government get them in for, and to Glen's astonishment, he replied that he had bought a car that turned out to be an alien robot.

Landing, the group joined up with Keller, Captain William Lennox, Sergeant Robert Epps and their men, escorted by Sector Seven director Reggie Simmons and Tom Banachek. The two spooks explained that they were all here because they were exposed to the N.B.E.s, aka the alien robots. Bringing them to a large, top-secret chamber, the group saw N.B.E. 1, called Megatron, leader of the Decepticons by Sam. When he explained that Megatron was after the All Spark cube to transform all of Earth's technology into an army, Simmons brought the group to a viewing room looking over an even larger chamber encasing the massive All Spark.

To demonstrate the All Spark's power, the group was herded into a containment room where experiments using the radiation of the All Spark were conducted. Asking for phones and electronic devices, Simmons took Glen's proffered Nokia cell phone, commenting that they were nasty stuff, yet the Japanese know the way of the samurai. Maggie incredulously replied that Nokia is from Finland, to which Keller responded that while that's true, if she hadn't noticed, Simmons was a rather strange man. Turning on the All Spark's power, Glen's cell phone was transformed into a small spider-like mechanical beast with a tiny machine gun and rocket launcher, which jumped at Maggie as she looked on in astonishment. Griping that the beast was breaking the case, Simmons sent an enormous electrical shock into the creature, killing it. Soon after, Hoover Dam was under attack by the Decepticons, intent on freeing Megatron.

Needing to get word out to the US Air Force while traditional communications were down, Keller, Simmons, Glen and Maggie rushed to an archive storage room where there was an old radio. However, they soon discovered the radio worked, but had no microphone. Maggie suggested to Glen that they hotwire a computer into the radio to send out a tone that they could use as morse code to contact the military. As Glen did so, a Decepticon attacked, forcing Maggie to help barricade the door and load shells into antique shotguns for Keller. Simmons passed her a shotgun as he blasted the Decepticon with a flame thrower. Thes small sneaked in via the air ducts and attacked the group with machine guns as Maggie, Keller and Simmons fought back. Eventually, Glen managed to sucessfully contact the Air Force as an errant CD razor projectile fired by the Decepticon destroyed its own head, (presumably) killing it. Transformers (2007)
Synopsis
A bare bones vague retelling of the movie story. Each page features an confrontation between an autobot and a Decepticon, and the main gimmick of the book is that each section of the book can be flipped to a different part. The story box on the Decepticon part lines up, so the plot can be read in a mix and matched fashion. The art lines up well, though there's a few fudges, and Frenzy throws off every Decepticon combination. The book advertises more than 200 possible combinations.

* This is another book to use Energon characters and art in the early mock up phases.
* Either by error of model sheet or coloring, Bonecrusher is drawn seemingly without eyes.
* Swindle, as his autobot form, makes a rare appearance, likely to both pad out the Autobot roster, and to give Frenzy someone to fight.

Cold, distant, quiet. Wreckage is the counterpart to the hot-wired Brawl. Deliberate and methodical in his attacks, he enjoys watching his foe squirm in agony as his twin swords cut deep below their armor. Circuits popping and vital processors sizzling to uselessness are the music he longs to make, and none of the Decepticons can argue with his taste for making Autobots suffer.

: Wreckage transforms into an M1126 Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle in urban or arctic camo, armed with a M2 .50 cal machine gun and two other machine guns mounted extending out of the troop compartment. Unusually for a transformer with a military vehicle alternate mode, Wreckage does not feature significant embellishments to his design, even though he is not a licensed toy. However, his white plastic obscures much of his sculpted detailing.

:His Automorphing feature is activated during transformation by swinging his machine gun down, pushing it against a translucent red panel, which simultaneously raises his shoulders, lowers his torso, raises his head and extends his stomach-mounted cannon all in one movement.

:Wreckage's robot mode is more traditionally Transformers-styled compared to most of the other Movie line toys. As with most mainline Movie toys, he features an excellent range of articulation. The smaller machine gun weapons feature flip-out energy blades that can be held in his hands, mounted under his forearms or on any of the wheels. They can also connect together to form an undocumented but certainly intended double-bladed weapon; mounting this on his forearm wheels gives him an awesome spinning blade weapon.

: There is a minor issue on Wreckage where moving his arms down or towards his back at the shoulder will activate his Automorphing feature and begin to fold the torso back into its vehicle mode position. The best way to avoid this is to hold the grey gun plugging into his back in position while moving his arms.
*Wreckage (3D Battle Card, 2007)

: A 35-point "Uncommon" card, Wreckage is assembled form punch-out parts of two cards, which can be fit together to make either a robot or a tank. Since he uses the same parts layout as Brawl, his central cannon is considerably oversized when compared to his toy.

Trivia
*As revealed at 2007, Wreckage is a Hasbro elaboration of a design for a Transformer abandoned early in the Movie's development. It had no name and was thus labeled 'Stryker', the name of its vehicle mode.

:Based upon the 'Protoform' (Cybertronian) appearances of the Transformers in the Movie, Protoform Optimus Prime transforms into his 'Entry' mode cybertronic rocket thing. This mode somewhat resembles a cybertronic truck, with false wheels sculpted onto the sides, and Optimus Prime's trademark windows in front. A flame decoration piece fits to the back of the 'vehicle', creating the illusion of a flaming comet. The bottom of the vehicle has small wheels to roll the toy across smooth surfaces. Oddly, it has NO automorph gimmick at all, a feature most main-line figures have.

:In robot mode he resembles previous Optimus characters - his angular chest windows are reminiscent of Cybertron Optimus Prime, while his near animalistic limbs and colour scheme are evocative of Beast Wars Optimus Primal. He has excellent articulation due to his many ball joints, and is armed with a rifle. The flame attachment can fit onto the end of the (non-firing :( ) gun barrel.

: The largest Movie Optimus Prime toy, Leader Class Optimus Prime features the most accurate representation yet of the CGI design's complex transformation. He transforms into a heavily-customised 2006 Peterbilt 379 Extended Hood truck, and unusually for a mainline figure, he has rubber tires on all his wheels. His Ion Blaster weapon is stored in the rear of the truck's bunk, exposed like an engine block. Though Optimus has no trailer, he has hole where the fifth wheel (known among fans as a 'hitch') is sculpted in the rear of the truck, should owners find a suitable trailer to use. Due to safety reasons, the tips of his long smokestacks are made of a soft, flexible material. A button on the top of the cab roof activates horn and engine sounds, while a switch next to it activate the cab's window lights.

: Featuring a complex transformation, essentially the front and back ends of the truck fold and converge to become Optimus Prime's legs, as much of the truck rear is connected to the robot thighs via a series of folding panels. The rear wheel cowlings feature a hinge joint in the middle of them so they do not impede his knee articulation. The rear cabin of the cab, directly connected to the smokestacks, rotate and connect to his torso and unfold into his arms. As with most mainline Movie toys, Optimus Prime features Automorph gimmicks, and due to his pricepoint has three of them. Firstly, during initial transformation, rotating his front fenders to become his heels flips the top parts of the grill to become his toes. Secondly, sliding out the the double-barrel cannon in his right forarm flips out his pernamently attached, spring-loaded Ion Blaster, which lands into place for his right hand. Optimus' final Automorph, located in his torso, is activated by flipping the silver lever on his stomach activating a series of spring-loaded actions where they push the truck windows part, raises the lever between them and allows the head to spring up from the chest cavity. At this point yellow LEDs light up the chest windows and Optimus Prime's eyes, accompanied by a 'powering up' sound effect.

: Optimus Prime has a wide range of articulation for a relatively bulky figure. He has ratcheting joints in his shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, with swivel joints and ball joints supporting them in his biceps, lower knee joints and ankles. Again, unusually for a mainline figure, especially at the Leader pricepoint, his hands have individually articulated fingers and thumbs.

:Some packaging variants of this figure (perhaps a Wal-Mart exclusive) included a free movie poster depicting a Cybertronian eye overlooking Earth. Dinobot is a Predacon ruled by honor. He lives to die gloriously in battle. When he aided Megatron in the theft of the Golden Disk under the order of Cryotek, Dinobot believed he was in the pursuit of endless glory. But when he and his Predacon peers crashed on what seemed to be the wrong planet alongside a Maximal exploration vessel, he rebelled against Megatron and joined the Maximal team. It would be an uneasy alliance, fraught with turns of loyalty and turns of Shakespearean phrase.
Beast Wars
Voice Actor: Scott McNeil (US), Keiji Fujiwara (Japan)

When Megatron stole the Golden Disk and fled to prehistoric Earth, Dinobot was among his followers. But immediately after crash-landing, Dinobot turned on his leader, claiming that he had led them to the wrong planet. Beast Wars, Part 1 Unfazed by the tirade, Megatron had Scorponok blast him, and he left Dinobot for dead.

Focused solely on Megatron's destruction, Dinobot sought out the Maximals and attempted to take command of that group. He forced Optimus Primal into a fight to the death, which was interrupted by a Predacon attack. After Dinobot helped the Maximals, Optimus accepted him into the fold - not as a leader, of course, but still as a valued team member. This didn't sit well with the other Maximals, particularly Rattrap, but over time the two became a strange sort of friends. Beast Wars, Part 2

Dinobot provided not only brute force, but an understanding of the enemy: When Terrorsaur infiltrated the Maximal base, Dinobot feigned a desire to team up with him and overthrow Megatron. Lulling him into a false security, Dinobot eventually took care of him with the trash disposal unit - all without firing a shot, and the other Maxies never even knew. Equal Measures

But through it all, Dinobot had only one true loyalty: to his personal sense of honor. This he described as Predacon in nature, although he often appeared far nobler than his former comrades. Still, he was really no Maximal either; his ethics stemmed from his hard, warrior outlook. Always the first to call for action, he was often the recipient of Primal's lectures. For instance, when the Maximals unexpectedly created a transporter to the Predacon base, Dinobot demanded they send a bomb to destroy them all. Primal, however, insisted on a thirty-second timer to allow them time for evacuation, along the theory that if they lose their base, they're helpless anyway - no need to kill them outright.

[[Image:2char8.jpg |thumb|right|"Villain, I have done thy mother."]]

As time went on, Dinobot inevitably became attached to the Maximals. When a Cybertronian probe was detected, he helped his teammates attempt to contact it, despite the fact he dreaded a return home. After all, he was a criminal even in Predacon terms, and he had no hope for a warm Maximal reception. The Probe Thus, when the Maximals later thought that Megatron's band had been destroyed, Dinobot elected to remain on Earth while the Maximals repaired their ship and launched it. However, just as Dinobot wandered off to explore the world that had become his, he stumbled across the not-so-dead Predacons, who attacked the Axalon and grounded the Maximals once again.Victory (Beast Wars episode)

Despite his increasing loyalty to the team, his violent heart occasionally created rifts. Most notably was his reaction to Tigatron's pacifism: When the tiger tried to leave the Maximals in grief over the accidental death of his best friend, Dinobot argued vociferously with the "coward." He simply could not comprehend what Tigatron was saying: that in order to stop the fighting, someone had to lay down his gun. Dinobot could only see desertion, and for that he nearly killed Tigatron, who refused to fight back. But Primal interrupted before any damage was done, and Tigatron later came back to battle to save Dinobot from a Predacon attack, making the whole point moot. Law of the Jungle

The confrontation with Tigatron revealed more than just Dinobot's warrior ethic. He explained to Tigatron a bit of his motives for turning against Megatron: He feared that if Megatron used Earth's energon supply to wage a new war, Cybertron would burn as a result. But, of course, Dinobot had helped Megatron steal the disk in the first place, the stated goal having been to find energon. This appeared to be a contradiction (or massive change of heart) on Dinobot's part, but later revelations would fill in a larger picture.

The catalyst for these insights would be the destruction of the Planet Buster moon and most of the energon deposits, making it obvious that they were on Earth after all. Coming of the Fuzors, Part 1 Dinobot broke into the Predacon base and stole the golden disks. He gave the Vok disk to Rhinox, but the Voyager disk he hid from both sides. He knew that it contained information about the future, and it cut to the core of his being: "If the future is indeed immutably foretold, then my demise if but moments from that confirmation, for I could not live if not the master of my fate."

His desire to discover whether the future could be changed kept him focused on Megatron's actions. When Predacon installations were placed in a Voyager-disk-like pattern, Dinobot remarked, "So, Megatron, your plan proceeds even without the disk." Maximal, No More This apparent knowledge of Megatron's plans had two implications: It explained Dinobot's original allegiance to the thief, which had nothing to do with energon-gathering. And it gave him reason to rejoin Megatron's circle as the possibility of the original plan's fruition reemerged.

Thusly, he resubmitted himself to Megatron's command, but the Maximal influence still showed itself. When he was pitted in a deathmatch against Quickstrike in a bizarre test of loyalty, Dinobot subdued his foe but refused to kill him, offering to train him instead. But Megatron accepted the prodigal son anyway, as long as he returned the Golden Disk. Dinobot complied. He admitted to himself that he might be sacrificing his own race, but "either way I will know the truth at last."

After the artifact was back in Megatron's hands, Rattrap attacked and was quickly immobilized. As a final test of allegiance, Dinobot was ordered to kill his former teammate. This task proved too much for him, and he turned once again on the Predacon leader. However, Megatron still retreated with the disk in his possession, and it's implied that Dinobot then revealed Megatron's plan to attack the Ark to Optimus.

After contemplating suicide and getting berated by a hurt Rattrap for his betrayal, Dinobot decided to set things right. Code of Hero Tracking Megatron down, he found the Predacon testing the Voyager disk. Megatron discovered a mountain whose image was recorded on the disk, then blew the peak up. From a distance, Dinobot saw his greatest hope and worst fear simultaneously: The disk's image changed. Thus, Dinobot's future was his own... but Megatron had virtually limitless power.

When the Predacons launched an attack on a tribe of proto-humans, attempting to destroy the future human race, Dinobot singlehandedly took all the Predacons on. Ignoring the damage he took, the warnings of his own internal computer, and the danger to himself, Dinobot defeated everyone save Megatron. Mocking the weakened Dinobot, Megatron tallied the score firmly in his own favor. He had unimaginable power via the disk, the valley of the proto-humans was in ruins, and he had hostages. Refusing to quit, Dinobot jammed a rock through a stick and attacked with the makeshift hammer. This caused Megatron to drop the disk, which Dinobot blasted to pieces with his last bit of energy. The effort cost him, and a short time after the rest of the Maximals arrived, Dinobot's spark left his frame.

Dinobot was given a hero's funeral, with his body cremated as the Maximal fliers executed a Missing Man formation. His legacy remained even with the anthropoids, who found his hammer and used it as a weapon.

Dinobot died as he lived: paraphrasing Shakespeare. "Tell my tale to those who ask," Dinobot's last words had been, "Tell it truly - the ill deeds along with the good - and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence."

Except then Megatron cloned him. Feral Scream, Part 1
*Dinobot (Deluxe, 1996/1997)
: Japanese ID number: C-4, VS-4

: Part of the first wave of Beast Wars product, Dinobot transforms into something kinda resembling an organic Utahraptor. His tail detaches and separates to form a gear-powered spinning-blade weapon, while the central "tail bone" separates to be used as a sword. The entire assembly can store in robot mode by flipping down the tail-mount and pegging the blade's base to the peg on his lower back. Like all early Deluxe-and-up Beast Wars toys, he has a "mutant mask", halves of a dino-skull that flip up to cover his more robotic head.

: The original Dinobots shipped on cards with "rocky"-shaped bubbles. Later (and more numerous) assortments moved to a smooth, rounded bubble, leading the first packaging type to become sought-after collectibles on the secondary market.

: In Japan, Dinobot was available both individually and in a "Vs" set with Tarantulas. This version was identical to the Hasbro version. In January 1997, Takara redecoed many of the Beast Wars toys and re-released them in slightly more show-like tones; Dinobot actually got less tan to his dino-skin (moving further from the show model), and his helmet was painted in metallic gold. It is unknown if this version was also sold in a Vs set.

: This mold was used to make... lots of guys. Beast Wars Grimlock, Dinobots Grimlock, Beast Wars Neo Hardhead, Dinotron, and Thrustor.
: Part of the second McDonald's Beast Wars Happy Meal promotion, Transmetal Dinobot transforms into a metal velociraptor. his molding looks more like a Transmetal 2 than a normal Transmetal's, though.

: This release is a redeco of the original Dinobot toy, though its "show-accuracy" is questionable at best, with and excessively dark (faintly bronzed) brown base-colour and oddly using blue on his kneepads, metallic green on his rib-like shin ridges, and inexplicably substituting the red interior of his rotor weapon with blue.

: Beast Wars 10th Anniversary Dinobot came with the left arm to the "build-a-bot" figure Trans-Mutate, plus a DVD containing the obvious Dinobot episode, "Code of Hero".

: Part of the five-toy 2006 exclusive boxed set (along with Cheetor, Optimus Primal, Rattrap and Rhinox), "Darksyde Dinobot" is a redeco of the Cybertron Longrack mold, itself a retool of Armada Hoist. Dinobot uses almost all of Longrack's new-mold parts save for the head; Hoist's was a dead ringer for Dinobot in the first place. He transforms into a Cybertronic excavator. Inserting a Cyber Key or Golden Disk Key into his shoulder assembly unlocks a shovel-punch attack activated by pressing on the plunger mechanism above the key port. Like Longrack, he does not come with a Mini-Con partner (dammit).

:Celebrating Japan's (one year later than the West) 10th anniversary of Beast Wars, this version of Dinobot is another redeco of the venerable tooling. While definitely more show-accurate than the Hasbro 10th Anniversary version from the previous year, some of its color-scheme decisions favor the robot mode, such as bronze/gold shoulder joints. The effect of this however is to have a less consistently colored beast mode than the Hasbro version. It is worth noting that even this version lacks the medium blue used for the base of the show model's lower legs and torso (though this may be due to them being on the same sprue as his "lightpipe" and mutant helmet), so the "ultimately totally show-accurate-colored" version has still yet to be done.

: Perhaps most significant of all, however, is that this version of Dinobot finally has a mouth, though it is in the form of a paint operation, rather than a newly-sculpted head.
Trivia
* It's been rumored that Dinobot's first toy borrowed some molding from an unproduced Kenner Jurassic Park dino. There's no evidence at all to support this, however, and is incredibly unlikely to begin with.

* An actual (IE non-McDonald's affiliated) Transmetal Dinobot apparently made it to concept art stages, but not much further. It would have been notable for having the lamest "transport mode" of all the Transmetals if produced, however. Several elements of the design were recycled on Transmetal Terrorsaur.

* The Timelines "Darksyde Dinobot" color scheme is actually based on his Tenth Anniversary toy.

* Some fans humorously refer to Dinobot's spinning blade weapon as a "Rotate Blade". However, both the full-length version of the first Beast Wars toy commercial and a later commercial (starring Dinobot, Waspinator and Tarantulas) refer to the weapon as being his "spinning Veloci-Rotor blades".

* Dinobot was second under Megatron before rebelling....probably because he was the only one who knew one end of a blaster from the other

*It's interesting to note that almost every single character in the Beast Wars gets thrashed twice as hard as Dinobot in his final battle and yet they all came back good as new. Some rarely even have to bother with Stasis Lock. Funny, that.
Waspinator is the universe's whipping boy. If something goes wrong, it happens to him. If something blows up, he is usually at the center of the explosion (or at least close enough to it) and is therefore blasted into his components. He also doesn't talk very well (he hazz a problem with pronounzzing certain letterzz), so he's easy to make fun of. Some might consider it a "lisp", but really, he just likes the letter "Z" a bit too much. (So, those prone to witticisms could call it a a "lizzzzp.") Megatron has classified the harebrained Predacon as expendable, much to Waspinator's dismay. This is especially true after the many Transmetal upgrades that enabled Megatron himself to take to the sky.

Waspinator's not stupid, and has caught on to his lot in life, and tries to avoid his fate as often as possible, but fate always finds him - in the forms of friend and foe, fleshlings, and even Mother Nature. Thankfully, Waspinator is almost supernaturally durable, and has survived the most devastating and humiliating of defeats. Whether this is a boon or a curse is anyone's guess.
While Megatron, his lieutenant, and another underling stole a Maximal relic, the Golden Disk, the Predacon who would later name himself Waspinator stole a ship along with an accomplice he nicknamed "Beakbot." The two had a contest to name the ship, but "Waspinator" lost, and thus the stolen ship was dubbed Darksyde. "Waspinator" believed Buzzerbot would have been a better name.

He's not alone on that one.

After escaping Cybertron, the Darksyde was intercepted by the Axalon and the Chromia 10, but after an intense space battle, only the Darksyde and the Axalon remained. Megatron ordered "Waspinator" to execute their planned transwarp jump, opening up a portal which both ships entered. Dawn of Future's Past
Waspinator, part of Megatron's rogue band of Predacons, landed on an unknown planet with dangerous levels of unstable energon. To protect themselves from the energon, the Predacons took organic beast modes. In Waspinator's case, he now transformed into a large green wasp. The first conflict between the stranded Predacons and their Maximal pursuers came when the Maximal Cheetor stumbled across Waspinator.

When Rhinox had his personality program converted to that of a Predacon, he started surreptitiously taking out the various Predacons. He swung a cargo crate into Waspinator, giving him a concussion, and he (Waspy) flew around in a daze, claiming to be the Insecticon Shrapnel, as well as the great Wonko The Sane. This seems to have been reversed when later, Cheetor got annoyed at his yattering and shot him down. Dark Designs

The Ghost of Starscream travelled through time and possessed his body. It took a major explosion to dislodge Starscream's immortal spark from Waspinator's body. Possession

After the aliens detonated the unstable energon using the second moon, Waspinator was the first to realize that this seemingly unknown planet is, in fact, Earth. Dinobot had made the same realization and stole into the Darksyde to retrieve both of Megatron's disks. In the process, Waspinator was crushed into a cube by the disks' security contraption. Coming of the Fuzors, Part 1

After the destruction of the Darksyde at Tigerhawk's hands, Megatron sent Waspinator, Inferno and Quickstrike on an errand to find a new base, which was really nothing more than pointless busywork while Megatron went to do more important things. As the trio staked out an early human tribe that had take up residence in a series of caves, Waspinator finally had enough, and ripped off his Predacon symbol, declaring himself out of the Beast Wars. Inferno and Quickstrike promptly blasted him to pieces without a word. Nemesis, Part 1

His parts recovered by the tribe, Waspinator remained on Earth while all the other surviving Transformers set off for Cybertron, and led the tribe. Nemesis, Part 2
Sadly, for Waspinator, the Protohumans he had ruled over grew tired of his presence and forced him to leave the planet and return to Cybertron under his own power. There his spark was removed and used to power the Vehicon general, Thrust. He was discovered by Blackarachnia after she thought he was Silverbolt. The Catalyst

After Cybertron's technorganic reformatting, Waspinator returned in his beast mode with Thrust's head, and the size of a standard wasp. * Waspinator was originally chosen by Hasbro to be one of the characters killed off for the second season of the Beast Wars cartoon to help make way for new characters (read: product). However, story editors Bob Forward and Larry DiTillio convinced them to spare Waspinator on the grounds of his popularity with the online fan-base, so Terrorsaur and Scorponok took the plunge instead.

* Waspinator was originally slated to appear in the very first Beast Wars video game, and even had a character model built. However, he was ultimately unused, and only appeared in footage taken from the Beast Wars cartoon.

* Waspinator appears to be the inspiration for Buzzer-Bot from the Playskool Go-Bots line.
:Megatron is a Decepticon from the Transformers (2007) continuity family. He is often refered to as Lord Megatron. Known to humans as both "The Ice Man" and "The Mega-Man" and more formally as N.B.E. - 1
The former Lord High Protector of Cybertron, Megatron is vicious and extremely powerful, single-minded in his goals, straight forward and brutally direct in his attempts to seize those goals. He is all "blunt force" in contrast to Starscream's penchant for deceipt and trickery. On the down side, Megatron tends to become so obsessed with the object of his desires that he can ignore "secondary" matters and glaring flaws in his plans (otherwise, he likely wouldn't have crashed into ice-cold arctic water and spent millions of years as a popsicle).
Megatron once ruled Cybertron side-by-side with Optimus Prime. He got a jones for the Allspark and the war started. When Bumblebee stalled him long enough for it to be launched into space, he tore off Bumblebee's arm and crushed his voice box (but in the friendliest way). :Based upon the 'Protoform' (Cybertronian) appearances of the Transformers in the Movie, Protoform Starscream transforms into his 'Entry' mode cybertronic rocket thing. This mode somewhat resembles a cybertronic spaceship, with a visible bridge between the two dorsal fins. The bottom of the vehicle has small wheels to roll the toy across smooth surfaces.
:In robot mode, Starscream marginally resembles previous Starscreams, mostly G1 Starscream, with the large turbines on his chest, wings and vents on his legs. Due to his extensive use of ball joints, he has excellent articulation. Starscream is armed with a spring-loaded missile launcher that fires the previously mentioned projectile cast in the same broze colour as his body. Alternatively, the flame decoration can be fitted onto the end of the barrel.
Starscream has ascended to Decepticon leadership in the absence of their former lord, and though he must "seem" to carry on the long search for the lost Megatron and the Allspark to keep his position as leader, his greatest hope is that Megatron NEVER be found. This mode somewhat resembles a cybertronic spaceship, with a visible bridge between the two dorsal fins. A flame decoration piece fits to the back of the 'vehicle' over the missile projectile, creating the illusion of a flaming comet.

:The Dinobots are an Autobot subgroup in Generation 1 continuity family. In some continuities, before they arrive on Earth, they are known as the Dynobots.

The Dinobots are a rowdy, arrogant, low-brow, disobedient band of warriors that some Autobots would rather scrap than deal with. They're also one of the most devastatingly powerful and close-knit combat units in the Autobot army.

The group's members are:
*Grimlock (leader)
*Slag
*Sludge
*Snarl
*Swoop

Fiction
Animated continuity
Built on Earth by Wheeljack and Ratchet, the Dinobots are a subgroup of Autobots with great physical power, but very limited intelligence. They were modeled after the Dinosaur fossils that Ironhide found in the volcanic caves near the Ark. Initially only three were built (Grimlock, Slag, and Sludge) in the episode "S.O.S. Dinobots", but two others (Snarl and Swoop) were added in the episode "War of the Dinobots".

It is unclear how to interpret this origin in concert with the idea, established later in the cartoon series, that new Transformers are granted life by the super computer Vector Sigma. Although slow-witted, the Dinobots give every indication of being fully "alive", sapient beings. Some fans suggest that Optimus Prime used the Matrix to give them life, but this is not supported by canon, particularly since in this continuity he carries the Matrix of Leadership, which was never shown to have the life-granting powers of the Creation Matrix until it was retconned by Beast Era fiction. Retroactively, it can be guessed that the Matrix may have been involved, but when the G1 cartoon is viewed in isolation, there is something amiss.

Marvel Comics continuity
The Dinobots in the comic were not created on Earth, but were a distinct and pre-existing unit of five Autobot soldiers that were aboard the Ark when it crashed to Earth. The comic Dinobots, while not exactly Perceptor-grade, were signifigantly more intelligent than their cartoon counterparts. (Their commander, Grimlock, served as overall Autobot Commander on more than one occasion.) Shortly after the crash the Ark's computer detected Shockwave landing on the planet in the Antarctic land-out-of-time that would one day become known as the Savage Land. The Ark used the last of its capabilities to revive these five warriors and rebuild them to transform into the Savage Land's dominant lifeform: dinosaurs. They were then dispatched to deal with the Decepticon, where they sank to the bottom of a tar pit and remained dormant until Ratchet revived them in the 1980s.

Dreamwave Comics continuity
It was established that Grimlock once commanded a splinter-faction of Autobots known as the Lightning Strike Coalition, that included the pre-Dinobots. It was also established that following this, these five robots used the Cybertronic designation "Dynobots."

The Dynobots travelled to earth seperate from the rest of the Autobots. Grimlock emerged on his own, and the Ark Autobots found him battling the Insecticons. The fate of the other Dinobots was unknown, but somehow Megatron had captured them and kept them in stasis in a secret base. After freeing them they travelled to Cybertron and helped liberate it from Shockwave's control.

Legends anthology
The story "Paddles" features a sixth Dinobot of the same name. This is also the only appearance of the character.

IDW Comics continuity
From the Spotlight: Shockwave story:
In a similar fashion to the Marvel and Dreamwave continuity, the Dynobots followed Shockwave to Earth on a revenge-fueled crusade. After engaging the Decepticon on Prehistoric Earth in their new dinosaurian beast-modes, The battle ended with the six robots buried in molten lava. They were later unearthed by a human archaelogical dig Spotlight: Shockwave which was taken over by government agents Escalation, Issue 5

A spark is a Transformer's lifeforce, or soul.

The spark is a physical entity which is safeguarded inside a Transformer body. If something harms the spark beyond repair, it is "extinguished," and returns to the Allspark. The Transformer is then considered dead. A Transformer is able to survive an enormous amount of physical damage -- as long as their spark is intact, it is possible to repair or rebuild their body and restore the spark to it.

Establishment in fiction
The concept of the spark as currently understood was introduced to the Transformers mythos in the Beast Wars episode, "The Spark". In this episode, little is explained except that each spark is unique, and that every "Cybertron" (here meaning, essentially, "Cybertronian") has one.

The later episode, "Possession", dealt with the idea of sparks, but the spark in question -- that of Starscream -- is established as being aberrant, and thus the properties it displays are not neccessarily characteristic of sparks in general. However, "Possession" was the first time it was claimed that characters from the G1 series also had sparks, rather than sparks existing in Beasties only. Sparks remained prominent throughout Beast Wars, and events in seasons two and three further established the retcon that G1 Transformers all possessed sparks.

In Beast Machines sparks became central to the story, as Megatron had abducted the sparks from every Transformer on Cybertron. Megatron's own spark displayed unusual behaviors in this series, and again, these behaviors can probably not be assumed to apply to all sparks. Still, Beast Machines contributed more information about sparks to the canon than any other series.

The Generation 1 cartoon occasionally referenced a device called a laser core which seemingly has a similar function to a spark. The tech spec bio for the Beast Rider, Mechatron, says that he is "outfitted with an upgraded spark-capture claw that can tear out the entire laser core of any Transformer defender." This implies, as some fans had speculated, that the laser core may be some sort of housing for the spark.

Since the introduction of the spark in Beast Wars, sparks have become an integral part of many Transformers fictions. Sparks have been featured in new Generation 1-based series, and in later alternate-dimension tales such as the Unicron Trilogy's Armada and Energon.

Although the term spark does appear off-handedly in some Generation 1 comic stories (a "spark of life" and a "life spark"), these were clearly simply metaphorical statements. They can be retroactively seen to, perhaps, refer to the contemporary concept of a Transformers' spark, but did not on their own establish anything of the sort.

Properties of sparks
As seen in the image at the top of this article, sparks normally appear as blue balls of energy with a pulsating center composed of smaller, blue spheres. The center spheres are engulfed in a reddish glow. An ever-changing pattern of "electricity"-like lines travel around the surface and through the interior. However, in Beast Machines, the sparks of the Maximal heroes who had been reformatted took on different colors (for example, Blackarachnia's was green). This was first visible in "Revelations Part I: Discovery". At the end of that series, after being infused with extra power from the Matrix (cf. Allspark), their sparks became visible, as if part of their torsos were translucent.

Beast Era Transformers seem to have permanent "spark chambers" within their chassis where the spark can be seen simply by opening the chamber. Older Transformers within the same G1/Beast continuity, such as those who lived before the Great Upgrade, did not seem to have this feature. The G1 More Than Meets The Eye guidebook from Dreamwave states that a spark is normally "suffused" throughout a Transformer's body rather than residing in any particular place. It may be that this is also true after the Great Upgrade, and that the spark chamber is merely a protected location for the spark to coalesce when needed.

In the Beast Wars cartoon, there were two cases of Beast Era Transformers temporarily housing the sparks of G1 Era Transformers in their own bodies while still housing their own sparks. In both cases, this resulted in the Beastie undergoing a mutation of sorts into a more powerful body: Optimus Primal, upon taking the spark of Optimus Prime, grew into his Optimal Optimus body; and Megatron, upon taking the spark of the original Megatron obtained his dragon form. However, based on the information from the series, there is no basis for determining whether this phenomenon is a result of a single body housing two sparks, a Beast Era body housing a G1 Era spark, a body being implanted with an especially "powerful" spark (like those of Optimus Prime and Megatron could conceivably be), or some combination of these.

Although Transformer memories and personalities are generally treated as if they are stored within the Transformers' computer brains, repeated canonical instances have established that a spark will (or can) hold all of an individual's memories, along with their "essence" or personality. Further, there is some evidence that sparks may even retain records of the Transformer's previous bodies (such as when Optimal Optimus, whose body originated with a blank protoform, regressed into a copy of the gorilla body Primal wore at the beginning of the Beast Wars). A Transformer's behavior can be modified through programming of their mechanical body (referred to as a shell program), but this is always a struggle between the programming and the "true" nature of the spark within. It may be that over long periods of time, a spark may begin to internalize some aspects of a programmed personality.

Many Transformers, such as Sky Lynx, G1 Omega Supreme, and the Duocons, simultaneously inhabit multiple mechanical bodies or components. The character bio for Magmatron mentions this ability of his, and categorizes his spark as a "mitotic spark" which is able to split, sharing itself between his three beast modes. It is unknown whether other multiply-bodied Transformers also posses mitotic sparks, or if they are examples of something more mundane such as simple remote control.

Some Transformers are able to sense and communicate with the sparks of other Transformers through a process that appears analogous to telepathy. According to dialog from "Revelations Part III: Apocalypse", this ability is related to the sparks' mutual connection to the Allspark. Disembodied sparks are sometimes able to communicate through this same method. (See below.)

The radiation emitted by energon crystals is harmful to sparks, even when they protected within a Transformer's body. Certain body types are better able to shield the spark from energon radiation. For example, the flesh-like beast modes adopted by the crews of the Axalon and Darkside provided essentially 100% protection, allowing operations -- while in beast mode -- in environments that were practically forests of energon crystal. Direct contact between crystalline energon and a spark is highly dangerous.

In the Beast Machines episode "Spark of Darkness", Rattrap describes Megatron's disembodied spark as a ball of electrons. He goes on to say that normal sparks contain a large number of positrons. Based on his dialogue, it is possible, but not certain, that sparks are composed entirely of positrons. Rattrap also indicates, in "Revelations Part I", that when a spark is extinguished, carbon scoring is typically left on or within the Transformer's chassis.

Regardless of their composition, sparks are not insubstantial energy, but have some sort of physical aspect. This is clearly demonstrated in, again, "Revelations Part III", when Nightscream is seen attempting to push Blackarachnia's spark back into her body. His hands press against some sort of surface (or perhaps merely a force field, in which case the spark could be entirely energy) which is above the visible surface of her spark. Later in the series, in "Spark of Darkness", Megatron's spark is also shown to have physicality. Further back, in Beast Wars, the spark of Rampage/Protoform X would respond to being "crushed" by Megatron by flattening slightly inside its energon-lined carrying case. And even the spark of G1 Megatron was "grabbed" physically by a tentacle-like appendage of BW Megatron's. While some of these examples may be special cases as they deal with sparks that have unusual properties, those properties are unique to each spark. The weight of evidence, then, is in favor of sparks being at least partially substantial.

Disembodied sparks
Sparks are able to exist outside of a Transformer body, but the parameters of this phenomenon are largely unclear. In is unknown for how long a spark can survive under such conditions, although they are vulnerable to damage in this state. It is also unknown whether a disembodied spark is "conscious" and aware of its surroundings, and whether it is capable of moving under its own power. (There are unusual cases, as described under Aberrant sparks.)

It is hard to imagine how a spark could be aware of its surroundings when stripped of all sensory mechanisms. Indeed, in "Revelations Part III: Apocalypse", while Blackarachnia's spark was outside of her body, her consciousness did not remain in the "real world". Instead, she experienced a conversation with Optimus Primal -- not a hallucination -- which took place in an abstract "higher plane of existence", perhaps within the Allspark itself.

Most of the disembodied sparks in Beast Machines drift slowly and largely directionlessly. In many other cases, sparks seem to move with some sort of intent. However, aside from attempts of sparks to re-enter their "home" body, these are conceivably all "special cases" and may not be generalizable. In one example, the sparks of Tigatron and Airazor are seen following Tigerhawk to Earth in "Other Victories". While their sparks appear normal when this occurs, they later merge into a single white spark and then inhabit the (then-empty) Tigerhawk body. This is not normal spark behavior, and may be related to the time they spent seemingly in stasis with the Vok. Also, in "Revalations Part III", when Blackarachnia becomes panicked during her telepathic conversation with Primal, her spark begins moving erratically and has to be chased down by Nightscream. However, it is unclear whether the spark was moving with intent -- especially since Blackarachnia's consciousness was portrayed as still being on a higher plane -- or simply zigging and zagging randomly. And, again, a reformatted spark may be different than a normal spark anyway.

Aberrant sparks
Some sparks have exhibited properties or behaviors that do not seem to be generalizable to other sparks.

Starscream
As established in the Beast Wars episodes "Possession" and "Bad Spark", Starscream possesses a "mutant" immortal spark. Even when his body is destroyed, his spark is not extinguished. This explanation retcons the appearance of Starscream's ghost in some season three episodes from the G1 cartoon -- the "ghost" was in fact Starscream's disembodied spark.

Starscream's spark was able to move under its own power, and seemingly travelled not just across space from Cybertron to Earth, but backwards through time from 2006 to human prehistory. It may be that the time travel was accomplished by "falling" through the transwarp hole left by the Axalon and Darkside when they arrived on prehistoric Earth -- Depth Charge's ship arrived there by that method later in the series -- but this is uncertain.

Additionally, Starscream's spark was able to take possession of other Transformers simply by entering their bodies. While in another body, Starscream's will completely dominates that of his host. When Starscream possessed Waspinator, Waspinator's voice even changed to sound like Starscream's, and the Predacon insignias on his body changed to Decepticon insignias. Starscream either did not have, or did not seem to know that he had, this poessession ability until he died during the events of The Transformers: The Movie.

Rampage / Protoform X
The creation of Protoform X was an experiment conducted by the Maximal Elders to attempt to replicate Starscream's indestructible spark. Although they succeeded in creating such a spark, dubbed Protoform X (and later taking on the name Rampage), it was, unfortunately, psychotic.

Like Starscream's spark, Rampage's could not be extinguished through simple destruction of his body. In fact, Rampage's body -- at least, the body he wore during the Beast Wars -- had uncannily rapid self-repair functions. In one instance, Depth Charge pierced Rampage's body from front to back with a spear, and the damage disappeared in a matter of seconds once the spear was removed.

Megatron devised a way to split Rampage's spark by carving it with a blade of energon crystal. Amazingly, this did not destroy the spark, nor did it seem to weaken Rampage appreciably. Megatron kept part of the spark in a case lined with energon crystals. By squeezing the case, the crystals would pinch the spark fragment, and Megatron used this to torture Rampage into obediance.

Megatron later placed this piece of Rampage's spark inside his Transmetal II clone of Dinobot, who is usually referred to as Dinobot II. Dinobot II appeared to have a personality wholly independant of Rampage's, although he was similarly brutal. Dinobot II's personality, however, may have been imposed upon him through programming. Dinobot II could torture Rampage by compressing the spark fragment that he held, much as Megatron had previously done. This did not seem to affect Dinobot himself.

Rampage's spark turned out to not be completely indestructible -- seemingly as an extension of Megatron's splitting of the spark with an energon blade, Depth Charge eventually destroyed Rampage by piercing his spark with "pure" crystalline energon. Normally sparks "extinguish" somewhat peacefully, but when Rampage's was pierced, a powerful explosion destroyed the bodies of Rampage and Depth Charge. It may be that Starscream's spark would be similarly vulnerable to being cut / destroyed by energon, but this is mere extrapolation.

When Rampage's spark was destroyed, the fragment within Dinobot II did not explode. It may have simply disappeared, or it may have remained there. However, through a process which is not clearly established, Dinobot II at that instant "reverted" to the personality of the original Dinobot, and even had a vision of Dinobot's last moments. It may be that this reversion was related to events scripted for an episode which was never produced, titled "Dark Glass".

Rampage's spark never displayed the ability to move under its own power.

Megatron
In season two of Beast Machines, Megatron's spark does a number of unusual things.

As part of the battle between he and Optimus Primal at the end of season one, during which the Key to Vector Sigma and the Plasma Energy Chamber were pitted against each other and Megatron plunged into a pool of material from Cybertron's organic core, Megatron somehow was able to "split" his Beast body into two separate bodies -- one entirely robotic, and the other entirely "biological". (Whether the Beast bodies of the Beast Wars characters had any true biological components, or whether they were faux-flesh composed of nanites is not consistently established in either series.) Contrary to his intentions, Megatron's spark ended up trapped within the biological body, which came to be known as Noble/Savage.

It is unclear how a biological body was able to sustain a Transformers' spark. Indeed, even the Maximals were surprised when they realized what had happened. It could be argued, based on statements made by the Oracle in the first episode ("The Reformatting") that all lifeforms in the universe have sparks, not just Transformers. However, this is never alluded to by any other canonical source, so most fans have seemingly dismissed it.

As shown in "Prometheus Unbound", using the biological Noble/Savage body, Megatron was unable to mentally control devices in his citadel or interface with his control harness. Upon using a spark extractor on himself, however, his spark was freed and immediately flew to the harness, which it activated before "flowing" up to the ceiling through the harness' cables. His spark then took over, as its new body, an enormous floating replica of his own head, where it stayed for most of season two. The Noble/Savage body appeared to be dead, but recovered. After Megatron's spark had left it, it seemed to be a perfectly "normal" animal which had the ability to change between a wolf-like form and a dragon form, possessing little if any sentience.

As soon as his spark had been removed from Noble, it took on an unusual appearance, having turned entirely red or orange in color. (Perhaps a change similar to that of the reformatted Maximals.) Megatron's disembodied spark also seemed to be able to speak even though it had no physical body. It may be that this speech was telepathic, but, the spark itself pulsated in perfect rhythm with the words.

While inhabiting the Big Floating Head, Megatron's spark was sometimes seen floating freely, and under its own power, through the interior of the BFH, particuarly in a large space that appeared to serve as his control room. (It was here that he addressed his Vehicon generals, usually manifesting as a holographic projection of one kind or another.)

Eventually, in the three-part "Sparkwar" story, Megatron's spark began consuming / fusing with the captured sparks of Cybertron's inhabitants. He claimed to have learned how to accomplish this after communicating with the Oracle.

To consume other sparks, Megatron's spark extended tendrils which ensnared victim sparks. As each one was absorbed, Megatron's spark grew larger in size.

Megatron was temporarily beaten when Nightscream attacked him with a sonic scream. The scream, according to Primal, depolarized Megatron's spark. This caused him to temporarily lose control and allowed the Maximals to escape. In the following episode, "Spark of Darkness", Megatron's spark exhibited additional strange behaviors which may or may not have been dependant on its depolarized state:

*It travelled very quickly and with great agility.
*It was able to physically "crash" into things to push them around. In particular, it repeatedly knocked the Maximals out of its way.
*It seemed to be able to cause large explosions simply by flying through other objects.
*It could inhabit and leave any sparkless body at will. This ability evidently differs from Starscream's, in that Starscream never animated a vacant body, and Megatron never dominated an occupied one. These re-animated bodies were able to remain functional even after suffering extreme physical damage.
*His spark was not detectable by his Vehicon generals' sensors, and Primal was unable to "sense" his spark through the Oracle.
*The spark did not speak at all while depolarized, neither when in a body nor when floating freely.

Rattrap was able to capture Megatron using a hand-held spark extractor, and using a control panel on the extractor, repolarized and thus stabilized his spark. Afterwards, Megatron's spark remained red and just as fast and agile as before, but became detectable by his generals' scanners again, and became "trapped" in the next body it inhabited (that of a diagnostic drone). Upon entering this body, Megatron declared, "I live!" This was the first time he had spoken since being hit by the sonic scream. This implies that something about his prior "destabilized" state may have prevented him from fully utilizing the bodies he had visited.
