Bumblebee

:Bumblebee is an Autobot from the Generation 1 continuity family. He was known as Goldbug for a time in some continuities.

Bumblebee is one of the smallest and weakest Autobots. While this does allow him to do his job better than most Autobots could manage, he is self-conscious about his size. Maybe this is why he makes fast friends among the humans. He looks up (so to speak) to the other Autobots, especially Optimus Prime, but what he doesn't realize is that they look up to him. He may be small, but he's brave, and he's one of the most likable Autobots around. Bumblebee already has the respect he craves.

As Goldbug, his rebuilt and "matured" form, Bumblebee retains most of his earlier strengths and weaknesses, but without his crippling need for approval. (This is true of some "matured" versions of Bumblebee without new names or bodies, as well, but is quite markedly associated with the change to Goldbug).
Generation 1
Four million years ago, Optimus Prime led a crew of Autobots including Bumblebee aboard the Ark to clear a path through an asteroid belt for Cybertron to pass through. Once their objective was completed, they were attacked by Decepticons and both their ships crashed in a volcanic mountain on a primitive planet known as Earth. In 1984, the volcano (Mount Saint Hilary) erupted, awakening their ship, which rebuilt them. Bumblebee was reconfigured to transform into a yellow Volkswagen Beetle.

Prowl led a mission into a human city to investigate their new world. Bumblebee, anxious to be the first to meet the planet's inhabitants, rear-ended a car full of teenagers at a drive-in movie theater. Before he could introduce himself, he was under attack by Decepticons and damaged badly. One of the teenagers, Buster Witwicky, brought the car back to his father's auto repair shop. Bumblebee weakly pleaded to them to fix him, for he was dying. His father, Sparkplug Witwicky, fixed Bumblebee and offered to help the Autobots convert their native fuel resources into a form that Transformers could use. Bumblebee took Buster with him back towards the Ark to relay this message.

After a seemingly final battle with the Decepticons, the long-lost Decepticon Shockwave arrived and reversed the Autobots' victory with a single blast. Bumblebee and the rest of the Autobots were kept captive aboard the Ark until Ratchet managed to free the Ark from Decepticon control and repair them. However, Buster had been entrusted with safeguarding the Creation Matrix, which the Decepticons discovered, so Bumblebee and Bluestreak were sent to protect him. Buster was attacked by the newly-built but lifeless Jetfire. Bumblebee and Bluestreak did their best to defend Buster, but it was Buster's use of the powers of the Creation Matrix which saved them all, disassembling Jetfire in mid-air. Bumblebee removed Jetfire's brain so Buster could remote-control the body with his mind.

After the Creation Matrix was returned to a restored Optimus Prime, Bumblebee was charged with giving four new recruits (Hoist, Skids, Smokescreen, and Tracks) a tour of the planet. Bumblebee decided a Brick Springhorn concert would be a good destination, but the Decepticons had sabotaged the event to harvest energon. Bumblebee disobeyed orders and led the four into battle, saving the concert. When Robot-Master appeared on television and claimed to control the Transformers, it was Bumblebee's job to ask their human business parter G.B. Blackrock what the deal was. Robot-Master broadcast next in a coal mine next to a de-energized Megatron, but Bumblebee and several other Autobots were pushed away by overwhelming Earth military forces.

This event caused Bumblebee to question his usefulness to the Autobots, and he abandoned them without a word. The Decepticons, however, saw much use for him and attempted to apprehend him. Hiding in a used car lot, he was stolen by two humans, who he adopted for a while. The Decepticons did not relent, and Bumblebee was ultimately rescued by the rest of the Autobots, an act which reminded him how valuable he was to them.

Due to conflicting circumstances, Bumblebee was damaged and rebuilt into a stronger but similar form, Goldbug. Goldbug and Blaster were ordered by the new Autobot leader Grimlock to track down the Mechanic, who had stolen Autobot technology from the Ark. Grimlock was a terrible leader and had no regard for human life, so both Goldbug and Blaster exiled themselves from his command. Grimlock was furious, and sent the Protectobots to bring them in. Goldbug and Blaster found themselves in the desert of the American southwest and, thanks to a run-in with the Decepticon Triple Changers, were infested with the disease known as Scraplets. Goldbug and his human friend Charlie Fong left to get help and possibly a cure, but Blaster believed Goldbug had abandoned him to die. Near death himself, Goldbug and Charlie arrived at a gas station, where they met up with the Throttlebots, sent from Cybertron by Ratbat and armed with acid to contain the disease. Goldbug narrowly escaped extermination when it as discovered that the cure for Scraplets was none other than water. Goldbug called industrialist G.B. Blackrock (on a pay phone), and Blackrock trucked in tanks of water himself. Blaster was cured and his trust in Goldbug was restored.

Goldbug, Blaster, and the Throttlebots found refuge in a used car lot owned by Big Steve. However, they were all in bad need of fuel. They attempted a deal with Big Steve, but he double-crossed them, filling them up with soda pop instead of gasoline. It was then that the Protectobots caught up with them, followed by the Combaticons. During the ensuing battle, the immobilized Throttlebots (including Goldbug) were carted away by RAAT.

Destroyed by Starscream in Tokyo along with the other Throttlebots, Goldbug was repaired by Ratchet using Pretender technology ... sort of. Instead of simply restoring Goldbug, Ratchet rebuilt him as a much larger Bumblebee. All the Familiar Faces!, explaining that he always preferred Bumblebee's original form. Before they could discuss it further, Bumblebee had to help Jazz and Grimlock against Megatron and his minions. While the new Pretenders defeated the other Decepticons, Ratchet seemingly sacrificed himself to destroy Megatron and his base. Skin Deep

Afterward, the three Pretenders briefly joined the Autobot resistance movement on Cybertron. Thanks to his increased stature, Bumblebee experienced a big boost of confidence as he and the others rejuvenated the resistance. In response, Thunderwing ordered the Mayhem Attack Squad to assassinate them. As Bumblebee, Jazz, Grimlock and the Rescue Patrol prepared to teleport to Earth, the three Decepticons attacked Autobase, sabotaging the trans-time dimensional portal. All nine Transformers found themselves teleported into the heart of Cybertron, where the Autobots discovered the resting place of Primus. Yesterday's Heroes!

There, they encountered the Keeper and learned the secret origin of the Transformers, as well as Primus' never-ending battle with Unicron. As the Keeper's tale ended, the Mayhem Attack Squad found the Autobots. Their initial attack destroyed the Keeper, but Bumblebee and the others handily defeated them. However, a stray blast woke Primus seconds before the repaired portal sent the Transformers back to Earth. Primal Scream

With Unicron undoubtedly on his way to devour Cybertron, Bumblebee and his fellow Pretenders embarked on a quest to find the lost Creation Matrix. The three traveled to Vsqs, the last known location of Optimus Prime's funeral barge, to search for clues. Finding an abandoned science station, Bumblebee searched through its computer records. He confirmed that the scientists had found Prime's body and the Matrix, but also a strange creature that promptly attacked one of the scientists. Before they could investigate further, Thunderwing attacked, also seeking the Matrix. Bumblebee used his Pretender shell to combat the Decepticon, only for Thunderwing to destroy it. The feedback temporarily knocked Bumblebee unconscious, and it seemed Thunderwing would destroy all three Autobots, until the Matrix Spawn attacked. While Thunderwing pursued the creature, Bumblebee and the other Autobots searched the science station for the Matrix. They recovered it, but were so low on Energon that they were becoming unable to compensate for the moon's heavy gravity. While attempting to reach their shuttle, Thunderwing overtook them, seizing the Matrix and leaving them for dead. Dark Creation

Fortunately for Bumblebee, the Autobots sent a shuttle to rescue him and the others before they entered final shutdown Eye of the Storm!
Conflicting Goldbug origins
In G.I. Joe and the Transformers, Bumblebee is destroyed by G.I. Joe due to a misunderstanding. They later rebuild him as Goldbug with help from Ratchet. However, Marvel UK did not initially print the crossover, so an alternate origin for Goldbug was conceived. In the pages of the UK comic, Bumblebee was destroyed by a time-traveling Death's Head and repaired by a time-traveling Wreck-Gar. (The Marvel Joe/TF crossover was published in the UK towards the end of the series.) The conflicting origins for Goldbug is the single largest difference between the American and British Marvel Transformers comics; most everything else kinda sorta meshes together, if you squint.

Generation 2
Years after the battle on Klo, and the Autobots had returned to a renewed Cybertron, Bumblebee received a distress signal from G.I. Joe on Earth, notifying them of Megatron's return. He passed this information on to Optimus Prime. Goin' South He also accompanied Prime and a team of Autobots to an unnamed planet home to an ancient civilization which reportedly stored a cache of superweapons, and battled the Decepticons there until a monsterous native scared them away. Ghosts

Bumblebee was among the Autobot/Decepticon forces battling the Cybertronian Empire on Ethos. Escalation!

Classics
After pilfering energy conductors with Wheeljack, the little, yellow different Autobot boarded the Ark with several other Autobots under the leadership of Optimus Prime to search for energy. After Decepticons attacked the Ark, Bumblebee, along with the battle's participants and their two ships crash landed on Earth 4 million years ago. They all laid dormant until 1984 when the Ark's computers were shaken alive as the volcano it crashed in erupted. Bumblebee was rebuilt to transform into a Volkswagen Beetle. More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1 After befriending the humans Spike Witwicky and his father Sparkplug after a Decepticon attack on an oil rig More Than Meets the Eye, Part 2, Bumblebee was part of the team of Autobots sent to stop Megatron and the Decepticons from overpowering Sherman Dam. Bumblebee helped Ironhide carve out a new riverbed for the raging waters, saving a nearby neighborhood from being flooded. Such acts were one of the earliest that helped endear the Autobots to the humans. More Than Meets the Eye, Part 3

During the Decepticon development of their Space Bridge program, Megatron captured Bumblebee and altered a bank of his memory circuits to lure the Autobots into a trap. Bumblebee recovered in time to alert the Autobots to the true location of the Space Bridge. Transport to Oblivion

In 2005, he and Spike Witwicky were on Moonbase 1. Unicron ate it. Luckily, Unicron takes some time to digest things, and the two (as well as Jazz and Cliffjumper) were spared an acid-bath in Unicron's guts by the timely arrival of Spike's son Daniel.

When the body of Optimus Prime was retrieved by Gregory Swafford and Jessica Morgan, Rodimus Prime led a team that included Bumblebee to investigate. However, Bumblebee and his teammates were attacked by a Hate Plague-infested Superion and heavily damaged. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1 After Optimus Prime was rebuilt by the Quintessons, so too was Bumblebee into a more powerful but similar form. Bumblebee remarked that he now looked like a "gold bug". Optimus Prime decided this would be his new name.

Goldbug journeyed with Optimus Prime and the other survivors to Chaar in search of a heat-resistant alloy that could insulate Prime from the Hate Plague. However, infected Decepticon forces attacked and contaminated Goldbug as well. Goldbug and every other contaminated being were restored when Optimus Prime retrieved the Matrix and unleashed the remainder of its energy. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2
Dreamwave comics continuity
At the death of Sentinel Prime, Bumblebee was part of an Autobot unit defending Altihex from the Decepticons. Grimlock called him, Jazz, Prowl, and others to the ruins of Praxus, where Grimlock declared that if the new Prime was unable to do what it took, they would take control of the war's leadership...and take out the Prime. Bumblebee was among the group that was present for the Matrix transfer ceremony, where Optronix became Optimus Prime. However, a Decepticon assassination squad arrived. Optimus kicked some exhaust port, and Bumblebee delcared that he was "awesome". However, Prime then ordered the Autobots to prepare an evacuation of Cybertron. During Shockwave's attack on Iacon, Bumblebee manned a turret in the Decagon. Eventually, Prowl ordered the Autobots to take them on individually, and Bumblebee went out carrying a cannon that was as big as him. Bumblebee survived the destruction of Iacon, and Prime reveresed his order of evacuation. The War Within

Bumblebee was one of the Ark crew that crashed on Earth, and awoke in 1984. During that time, he met Spike Witiwcky, becoming close friends with the fleshie. In 1999, the Autobots and humans allied and managed to capture the Decepticons, taking them in the Ark II back to Cybertron, along with seven humans, including Sparkplug Witwicky, Spike's father. However, the Ark II was sabotaged by rogue elements of the United States military (apparently as part of a plan by Shockwave). The humans were all killed, but a number of Transformers, including Bumblebee, survived, but were placed in stasis lock. Bumblebee's body was recovered by General Hallo and Adam Rook, but Rook stole Bumblebee and a number of other Transformers, selling them to various terrorists. Megatron broke free, and the Seekers, being dicks, played with Bumblebee's various components. Optimus Prime rescued him. Prime Directive

After Jetfire sacrificed himself to stop Sunstorm, Bumblebee deserted the Autobot army (for no stated reason). He headed to Spike's house, but Spike, resentful of the death of Sparkplug, lashed out at his old friend, but finally realized he was harshing on his old friend. The two went for a night on the town, where they stopped a mugging. Lost and Found The closure of Dreamwave means we will never know if Bumblebee returned to the Autobots or if he and Spike formed a crime fighting duo.
Bumblebee and Wheeljack were the only Transformers aboard the Ark to avoid capture and reprogramming by Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world. After disguising themselves as a Volkswagen Beetle and Lancia Stratos, respectively, the two tried to work out a way to free their comrades. They joined forces with G.I. Joe, G.I. Bumblebee was part of Prowl's secret counter-infiltration unit on Earth. When Ratchet broke cover by rescuing a trio of humans, Bumblebee was the one Autobot who supported his efforts. He was true to his role as an espionage agent and ferreted out their plans to continue joint operations against orders and joined in. He accompanied Ratchet and the humans to investigate an abandoned Decepticon bunker in Nebraska. At the bunker, while the humans were inside, two Decepticons attacked, and Bumblebee managed to take down Skywarp, but not before Ratchet was shot and run over by Blitzwing.

Bumblebee left the humans with Ratchet and traveled to Oregon, the location of the second Decepticon command bunker, observing the situation until the rest of the Autobot unit could arrive. After witnessing Megatron "disciplining" Starscream and subsequently downgrading the infiltration unit's status to Phase Two, Bumblebee departed Oregon with the rest of the unit.

Bumblebee was tasked by Nightbeat to check the area surrounding their base for surveillance. He found a great deal of it, prompting the decision to relocate the Ark-19. ===IDW Hearts of Steel continuity===
Following a long period of deactivation, Bumblebee is the first of the Transformers to awaken during the age of humans. Bumblebee is impressed by the humans' industriousness, and disguises himself as a small steam locomotive, with no control cab, and a built in steam-hammer for driving spikes. Hearts of Steel issue 1 He thus directly competes with steel-driving legend John Henry. Henry sets aside his mistrust of automation after realizing that Bumblebee is a person (not just a machine) who wants to put in a fair day's work. Hearts of Steel issue 2

Bumblebee wakes several of his fellow Autobots, who soon discover that the Decepticons are also active in this era. Hearts of Steel issue 3 Bumblebee, the Autobots, and their new human friends work together to prevent the Decepticons' mighty Astrotrain from reaching New York City. With the Decepticons defeated, Bumblebee and the Autobots return to their slumber. Hearts of Steel issue 4
Having been on the trail of the Decepticon agent Flamewar for a long, long time, now-espionage director Bumblebee (in his unreleased Alternators body) made his move, interrupting a supposedly-secure secret communication between Flamewar and the Tripredacus Council. He revealed that his agent Ricochet had installed a degenerative virus into Deathsaurus' clone army. Oh, and that since the Autobots now knew Flamewar's whereabouts and who she was working for, the Tripredacus Council would certainly consider her a liability. Which they did. So they blew her ship up.
A robot using Bumblebee's character model is shown in a still-shot flashback as a member of the Autobot group led by Rodimus. Whether this robot is an alternate-universe incarnation of Bumblebee or simply a similar-looking robot is --like all Unicron Trilogy character-model cameos-- left to conjecture.
Trivia
* The original Bumblebee toy was taken from the Japanese Microchange line, available in both yellow and red versions.

* Bumblebee/Goldbug was clearly a 'top-tier' character in the first decade of Transformers, receiving more toys during Generation 1 than any other character. However, Hasbro lost the right to use "Bumblebee" as a toy trademark during the Beast Wars and Beast Machines years, when Generation 1 names were in disuse. That's right, the name "Bumblebee" was lost during the years everyone turned into an animal.

* Bumblebee appeared in one of five Generation 1 public service announcements, informing children that they shouldn't run away from home because it's "mean". From the guy who ditched the Autobots for no real reason.

* The Armada Mini-Con Sparkplug is pretty clearly an homage to Bumblebee, from the coloration, placement of car-parts in robot mode, segmented-pipe biceps and even the head design.
Generation 1
Blaster was a rather grim, brooding, rebellious loner and one of the best, kickass fighters the Autobots had. He had a bit of a problem with authority and hated Decepticons with a passion due to the death of his former partner Scrounge. Originally part of Perceptor's Autobot resistance cell on Cybertron, he often disagreed with his superior's orders.

Shortly after Scrounge was killed, Blaster took part in an assault on Darkmount, where he engaged and seemingly destroyed the Decepticon commander Straxus, before using the Space Bridge to flee to Earth. The Bridge to Nowhere!

Upon arriving on Earth, Blaster was among the Autobots deactivated and disassembled by Circuit Breaker and RAAT. Heavy Traffic

He was later released and joined the other earthbound Autobots at the Ark, shortly before Optimus Prime's death. Blaster was one of the Autobots who voted for Grimlock to be leader of the Autobots, however he soon came to regret this decision. King of the Hill!

Blaster developed a reluctant friendship with Goldbug whose more naturally upbeat personality provided the Boy-Wonder to his Batman. After an encounter with The Mechanic, Blaster and Goldbug went AWOL from Grimlock's command, having grown tired of his aggressive orders and increasing mental instabilities. Mechanical Difficulties!

For this disobedience (and their failure to capture The Mechanic), Grimlock branded Blaster and Goldbug traitors, and sent the Protectobots to hunt them down. They eventually captured Blaster, but after he saved their lives from the Combaticons, they realized Grimlock's orders were purely vengeful and let him go. Used Autobots Child's Play (comic issue)

Blaster finally returned to the Ark, where his fellow Autobots begged him to take over as leader. However, he was forced to surrender to his former commander when Grimlock threatened the safety of several earth children. Spacehikers!

Imprisoned by Grimlock, Blaster was strapped to a Variable Voltage Harness as punishment for his desertion and disobedience. However, when Fortress Maximus and his Autobots arrived and Grimlock challenged him to a duel, Blaster took his place. Their duel was interrupted by a Decepticon attack. When Blaster pointed out that their feud had put all Autobots in danger, Grimlock agreed to call their duel a draw and declared a truce with Blaster as they fended off the Decepticons side-by-side. Totalled!

While Blaster, with Buster Witwicky's girlfriend Jessie, failed to rescue the young boy from the Decepticon's island resort/base they proved instrumental in discovering the upcoming arrival of the legendary Transformers database, the Underbase. Club Con! Like many other Transformers, Blaster was killed fighting the Underbase powered Starscream, shot dead atop the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. Dark Star

Blaster was later among the first Autobots resurrected by Grimlock with Nucleon. He took part in and survived the battle with Unicron. On the Edge of Extinction!

Blaster was one of the few Autobots present to survive the initial Decepticon ambush on Klo. End of the Road! (Marvel US comic)

In the future of 2008, Blaster was present at Autobot City when the Quintessons attacked. He was deactivated in the battle that followed and his body strung up from the battlements. Space Pirates

Animated continuity
:Voice Actor: Buster Jones (US), Keiichi Nanba (Japan)

Blaster was a fun-loving, hip and happening robot. Loud and energetic, and happy to share his choice of rockin' tunes with anyone, whether they really wanted to hear them or not.

Blaster appeared out of nowhere one day during Wheeljack's demonstration of the modifications he made to the Dinobots to improve their sense of balance and coordination, and to that end Blaster was requested to play something 'nice'. For some reason, Blaster had trouble tuning into a station until Grimlock (obviously tired of this scene's padding) blasted fire at Blaster's controls, allowing the Autobot boombox to tune into the local Rock and Big Band Music Fusion station. Ironhide, Trailbreaker and Sidewipe showed their appreciation for the fine selection of elevator music by jerkily dancing around and claiming their audio sensors were being fried. Blaster continued to enthrall Grimlock until Slag and Sludge bumped into their leader and totally freaked him out. Dinobot Island, Part 1

His loud music often got him into trouble, especially when he jammed emergency frequencies with bad 80's hair metal. Blaster and Cosmos eventually converted a deserted Decepticon headquarters on Earth's moon into an Autobot base, they were never shown to use it (it's possible the base they built was later used by Marissa Faireborn of the EDC).

Blaster had a rivalry with Decepticon tapedeck, Soundwave. The two clashed frequently, though they were most often shown to be evenly matched. In 2005, when the Decepticons ransacked Autobot City, Soundwave attempted to jam Blaster's distress signal to Optimus Prime with his Cassette forces. Blaster countered with his own Cassette army, and the itty bitty guys 'rassled.

In 2006, Blaster was stationed most frequently at Autobot City on Earth. However, at one point in Transformer history best left forgotten, he traveled with the Autobots to another planet where he translated opera into English.

Scramble City OVA
Blaster was finally gifted with some Cassette forces of his own to counter Soundwave's. Steeljaw and Ramhorn took on Ratbat but couldn't protect the secrets of Metroplex.

Teletraan Go! Go! comics
As Teletraan 15 lay recuperating from her Galvatron-inflicted injuries, a voice came from a nearby boombox, remarking that the song in her heart sounded lonely.

Transforming into his towering robot mode, Blaster told 15 that a princess like her deserved a more cheerful song. After listening to her problems, he advised her not to worry about what she ought to do and suggested that she concentrate on doing what she loved best. He told her that as individuals, sentient beings are notes, and that together, they become music.

He handed her a small cassette tape and told her that whenever she was depressed, she should listen to music. She thanked him as he left.

Despite Blaster's good intentions, the tape turned out to be full of depressing music. It also turned out to be Steeljaw.Teletraan Go! Go!

Kiss Players
Blaster hand-picked Rosanna to join his cassette team, feeling that she was the only Autobot who properly understood his love of music.

He was later appointed by Ultra Magnus as the Producer of the Kiss Players singing group, of which Rosanna became a founding member.Kiss Players (fiction)

Headmasters cartoon
Blaster's rivalry with Soundwave increased dramatically by the year 2011. At one point, when Hot Rod was searching Earth for the Matrix, he was ambushed by Soundwave. Blaster took Soundwave on alone, urging Hot Rod to leave without him. Soundwave and Blaster then prepared for their final duel. The result was a tie, sorta. They both died.

Later, all the Autobots were content to leave Blaster as a corpse until Daniel and Blaster's cassette forces whined enough to have their pal resurrected. Rodimus then brought Blaster back online as the yellow and blue repaint, Twincast. Coincidentilly, the Decepticons reanimated Soundwave as the black-as-coal Soundblaster. The two arch enemies then renewed their struggle.
It's hilarious to note that in the english dubbed version Blaster got the name "Billy" until the duel with Soundwave, receiving the name Blaster after the reconstruction.

After his revival, he also serves as the Autobots karaoke machine.
After Optimus Prime and Megatron forged the Cybertron Alliance, Twincast returned to his original form as Blaster for reasons unknown.

(The artwork by Hidetsugu Yoshioka for the single story page Blaster appeared in features all the characters in their Action Master bodies, implying Blaster may have become an Action Master as well.)

Dreamwave comics
Blaster and his partner Perceptor were co-leaders of an Autobot faction millions of years ago on Cybertron. While this faction may or may not have existed in the Dark Ages before Ultra Magnus unified the Autobots under his command, they were the only known resistance to Megatron's tyrannical rule during the Age of Internment that followed.

In modern times, Blaster allied himself with Hot Rod and Kup's underground resistance, opposing the new tyrannical rule of Shockwave.

Blaster seems to have a 'thing' against tyrannical rules.

At one point, he remarked that he couldn't wait to go to Earth. Ironically, Dreamwave's bankruptcy meant he never got to go. Poor Blaster.
The clear-plastic part of the door was also changed to clear-red, so when certain cassettes were placed inside, the "secret plans" decals on them would reveal the "weak point" of either Fortress Maximus or Scorponok, much like using the tech-specs decoders. He came with Steeljaw, who was given one of these new decals.

: In 2006, Twincast was reissued as an e-Hobby exclusive, this time packaged with the new character Flip Sides.

*Blaster w/ Flight Pack (Action Master, 1990)

: A non-transforming action figure, Action Master Blaster (not to be confused with the "Action Master Blasters" price-point) is compatible with any other Action Master vehicle or accessory. His design is based largely on his cartoon model, with elements from the toy added (like his visor). He came with the "Flight Pack" accessory, which converts from a winged jetpack to a massive "electro-scrambler" cannon.

Binaltech Asterisk
:Japanese ID number: BTA03

: A redeco of Alternators Skids, "Broadblast" transforms into a 1:24 scale Toyota bB, aka the Scion xB. He has working doors, hood, and trunk, plus his engine becomes a non-firing weapon. He also comes with an extra decal sheet, which includes signs for "TBN" which possibly stands for "Transformers Broadcast Network" or somesuch; there is Japanese text on the labels as well, but it's really tiny and hard to make out.

: He came with a PVC-plastic figurine of the human newsgirl Lumina Hoshi.

Trivia
* The pre-Transformers version of Blaster was actually a functioning AM radio. The Microchange release of the toy came with a microcassette-sized radio that plugged in to Radi-Casse Robo, which had internal wiring that allowed the radio to play through the speakers in its' legs. The big hole in his Electro-Scrambler rifle is an earphone storage space, and the cord can be wrapped around the gun and then the plug connects to the hole in the gun's stock. Despite popular belief, the compartment in the back of some Blaster toys was not a reminat of a battery compartment, but was actually storage for one of the transforming micro cassette since a plug kept them from fitting in the cassette door. The battery compartment was actually in one of his legs.

* According to Grimlock on a Letters Page, Blaster's visor is retractable. He uses it to shield his especially delicate optical sensors from sunlight.

* The packaging for Twincast's e-Hobby reissue was the same generic Decepticon-scheme box used to package Magnificus. However, since Flip Sides is technically a Decepticon, it...sorta works.

* According to Blaster himself on the UK letters page he has two siblings: Toaster and Karmen.

* According to the G1 Production Bible, Blaster's preliminary name was Blastbox.
:Perceptor is an Autobot in the Generation 1 continuity family.

Perceptor is a scientist, one of the most brilliant minds the whole of Cybertron can offer. He is always looking to learn more, and his discoveries have proven invaluable time and time again. Though his specialties lie in metallurgy, electrical engineering, and other sciences closely related to Transformer physiology, his thirst for knowledge has made him kind of a scientific jack-of-all-trades.

One of Perceptor's most infamous qualities is his tendency to speak using overly scientific terms, which can baffle – and occasionally frustrate – his comrades. The cheerful robot just doesn't seem to realize that not everyone has his extensive vocabulary.

Not much for fighting, he is always content to contribute to the Autobot cause in his own way but will engage in combat if the situation calls for it. Optimus Prime often relies on Perceptor's genius and considers him as valuable as any of his officers.

Marvel Comics continuity
On Cybertron, Perceptor was often considered an officer or otherwise highly ranked personage by other Cybertronic life forms in the vicinity, inspiring in the aforementioned others a tendency to view him as a "commander" of a faction of Autobots who engaged in armed conflict against localized enemy forces until such a point as the aforementioned combat unit, or the surviving portions thereof, crossed the multidimensional warp system for transport, otherwise known as the Space Bridge, to join the forces based on the planetary body known to the overwhelming majority of those of his species who had shifted their operations to its locality as Earth. He was later deactivated for a somewhat extended period of time, by human standards if not by those of his species, by the opposing faction (as judged by an outside observer who insists on a binary classification system) in the Underbase conflict, so named for the goal of the conflict, a legendary storehouse of Cybertronic knowledge.

Animated continuity
:Voice actor: Paul Eiding (US), Chikao Shiroyama (Japan)

Perceptor arrived on Earth during a period of time occurring after the initial impact of the Ark into the planet. It is unknown exactly when he arrived, but the malfunctions he suffered during the Cybertonium depletion crisis would lead one to conclude that he had been present when the Ark crashed onto prehistoric Earth during the encounter wih the Nemesis. During his period of habitation on that planetary body, he experienced a myriad of adventures. Included in that scope were incidents such as: being abducted by the Decepticons, along with Seaspray; reconfiguring his mass ratio to a microscopic scale in order to sever the connection of the Heart of Cybertron to Megatron's bodyMicrobots; traveling through the interstellar void with Jazz to reacquire Cosmos from Saturn's moon Titan; and landing on an unexplored world in which Cybertronian lifeforms were minuscule in relation to the immense indigenous population. He also synthesized a panacea to remedy the deadly Cosmic Rust epidemic.

Perceptor's actions continued to be of intrinsic strategic import, particularly following the distinct tactical deficiencies during the battle of Autobot City that resulted in the expiration of Wheeljack. He also accompanied Rodimus Prime on a multitude of his manifold peregrinations.

Victory
:Voice actor: Masaharu Satō (Japanese)

Perceptor, Wheeljack and Minerva were summoned, called forth, or otherwise sought out by Star Saber to save, preserve, and defend the life of the critically damaged and weakened Ginrai. They succeeded, converting the former Transtector into the mighty Victory Leo.

Japanese G2
Perceptor, along with Wheeljack and Jetfire, discovered new properties of the Matrix which allowed Optimus Prime to revive himself as Laser-Rod Optimus Prime subsequent to a crushing defeat by Megatron.

Universe: The Wreckers
Perceptor counciled Rodimus Prime against making a leadership decision that, when one considers both the opinions of observers that are generally regarded as wise, to such an extent as observers with finite capacity for knowledge can comprehend the infinite, and the final results of the decision in question, could be regarded as less than optimal.

Knowing the commander in question many of those reading this documentation may surmise the result..

Dreamwave comics continuity
Perceptor was again held to be an officer or leader, a position he occupied with Blaster, among a group of underground Autobots on Cybertron after the unexpected return of Megatron, who had disappeared along with Optimus Prime many years ago in an early space bridge test, commanding the Aerospace Extermination Squadron, an army of Seeker-form drones. The combat efficiency of these Air Warriors, as they were also known, led to a Decepticon conquest of Cybertron, as well as the enslavement of many Autobots. During this period, Perceptor theorized that if Megatron had survived the space bridge explosion, one could logically conclude that Optimus Prime also survived. At a base appropriately designated the Think Tank, Perceptor designed and built a device intended to locate Optimus Prime. Before a proper test of the device could be conducted, Perceptor's group managed to capture an Air Warrior, with the intentions of examining it's systems with the hope of finding an effective counter measure against the drones. The War Within: The Age of Wrath Unfortunately, financial irregularities on the part of Dreamwave's President resulted in the company filing for Chapter 11, where it currently remains in Bankruptcy court to this day, precluding any possible end to the story at this time.

Millions of years after the aforementioned events, Perceptor again allied with a group of Autobots who opposed the oppressive regime of the Decepticon Shockwave, but these activities were covert in nature and he publicly remained a respected Autobot scientist. He presented evidence of Shockwave's unorthodox experiments on various Transformers to the High Council, though any censure or movement against Shockwave was discontinued due to a rampage on the part of the Stunticons. After Optimus Prime escaped custody and united the various resistance movements, Perceptor participated in the Autobot leader's offensive against Shockwave's fortifications within Hub Capital Iacon. He also helped to repair Grimlock, commander of the Dinobots, despite the latter's well known bias against intellectuals. War and Peace

Devil's Due G.I. Joe versus Transformers continuity
IDW comics continuity
Perceptor embarked upon a mission in which the Ark-17 was the principle mode of transport as likewise did Springer, attempting to disentangle Kup from a scenario that would all but undoubtedly lead to his expiration. Perceptor, as was the general consensus of those who had embarked upon the voyage, attempted to dissuade Springer of the less than optimal, considering resource allotment, military operation he had accepted. Spotlight: Kup

Teletraan Go! Go! comics
Sent to gather data on Perceptor, Teletraan 15 found him giggling creepily over a microchip and telling it that it was time for its check-up.

As she recoiled in horror, Perceptor's tone became clinical and, retracting his faceplate, he demanded that she identify herself.

After Teletraan 15 recorded her notes on the Autobot scientist, he transformed into his seldom-seen mobile battle mode and took her for a ride...whether she wanted it or not.

: Formerly a Microchange MC-20 Micro Scope, Perceptor transforms into a predominantly red, functional microscope. His magnification is limited to 1X due to the relatively crude nature of his lens. In robot mode, Perceptor is armed with a red laser rifle and a spring-loaded rocket launcher that can fire one of three red missile-shaped projectiles.

: A holdover from his Microchange origins, Perceptor can also transform into a 'tank' mode.

: The Japanese version does not launch missiles from the scope, despite what some sources say.

: There is an old variant of this toy: some have a more golden-hued chrome than the normal silver. This is not a very common variant.
He transforms into a BTR-90 armored personnel carrier with a large missile/laser cannon/microscope/telescope.

Trivia
*In the animated portion of Perceptor's original toy commercial he is presented as being quite small, the size a microscope would be in relation to Prime's robot form, and not growing at all, but remaining just as tiny in robot form.

* A Perceptor Action Master was planned at one point, but apparently went no further than a concept sketch. Unlike some other Action Masters, the art is based solely on the toy, including its faceplate. It has the distinction of carrying on Perceptor's well-armed legacy, with not just one but TWO shoulder mounted microscope cannons, arm shields, and a large handgun . The figure may have been intended as a pilot or driver for an Action Master vehicle, as the handgun has handlebars jutting off either side. Or, perhaps, the aforementioned munition was engineered to be wielded in an akimbo manner.

*The initial inspiration for Perceptor came from the anime series Armored Trooper Votoms. Shinji Aramaki, designing toys for Takara at the time, liked the microscope look of the heads of the mecha from that series, and applied it in a more literal sense with the Microchange toy, but his involvement ended at the conceptual stage.

He passed this information on to Optimus Prime. Goin' South He also accompanied Prime and a team of Autobots to an unnamed planet home to an ancient civilization which reportedly stored a cache of superweapons, and battled the Decepticons there until a monsterous native scared them away. Ghosts
