It's useles to continue arguing without resolving and answering the following questions:

1. Why George Dunsay in his interview said that Takara and Hasbro were not involved in the creative concept of the transforming planet?

2. Why Mr. Dery and Hiroyuki were given credits in the 1989 Japanese Transformers movie version?

3. Why Mr. Dery is given credit and Hiroyuki has no credit in the 1986 US Transformers movie version?

4. Why the Unicron design of Hiroyuki that is posted here is not dated?

5. Why the alleged claim that the posted cartoon designs here were done by Shohei when in fact the cartoons were designed by Mr. Dery in 1984 which were published by Marvel people recently in the book Transformers: Ark according to Joshua Chapman? Here's the Amazon website
:1. Hasbro and Takara were not involved in the creation of Unicron. Everyone here agrees that Floro created Unicron. What he didn't do is create the concept of a transforming planet. That concept was created by someone at Takara before 1985. That "Japanese Unicron" is not Unicron, and was not created for Transformers; the art from the book the scan was taken from is about Takara action figure lines from before 1985, and therefore predates the movie. Floro may have very well came up with the idea of a transforming planet on his own; he just wasn't the first to put the idea to paper.
:2. Floro made the animation models. Hiroyuki was likely involved in the Japanese localization (This consisted of translating the script, recording new voice tracks, and adding Japanese credits. Nothing else was changed)
:3. Hiroyuki was probably only involved in the Japanese localization, and would therefore not be included in the credits from the original (READ: English Language) version.
:4. It is a scan of concept art. Any dates or other information included on the sheet are not part of the actual concept art and therefore would not be included in any compilations.
:5. Floro Dery made the character models actually used in the cartoon. However, those were simplified (read: easier to animate) versions of the ones made by Shohei.
:6. It is a scan of a character model. Any dates or other information included on the sheet are not part of the actual character model and therefore would not be included in any compilations.
:7. If you can find a mistake that can be verified with more then "HE TELL ME" (IE, something that has been published, or an interview transcript), be free to fix it.
:8. No, I'm Floro Dery, and I invented Japan and the concept of toys. --FortMax 00:50, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
:9. I just got Edit Conflicted'd three times trying to make this post.

:I know this basically repeats a lot of what FortMax just said, but I spent a while typing it, so darned if I'll let it go to waste. (Besides, I probably was one reason he got an Edit Conflict, and vice-versa.)

:Let's see, point by point...

::The drawings of Shohei's are based on Mr. Dery's cartoon designs compiled in the Transformers: Ark.

:And the proof of this is...? You have offered comments on the some of the process involved in the creation of Mr. Dery's designs. None of this proves whether or not the Japanese designs were based on his. However, the comparison picture shown here seems to indicate Mr. Dery in fact simplified some of Mr. Kohara's designs.

::Besides Shohei's drawings are not dated. Hiroyuki's design is also not dated. DATE is the litmus test.

:If no date is available for a piece of art, that does not negate its worth for the argument. It's very helpful, yes, but not the one and only means of proof.

::The book OLD ART from STUFF BEFORE TRANSFORMERS, there is no such book. Don't invent. Assuming there is such a book, OLD ART of what?

:This is obviously a description of a book, not a title, yet you are making fun of it because it doesn't sound like a real title. You are using very poor arguing tactics and insulting people by accusing them of lying about the book's existence. In short, you are doing just what you accuse others here of doing. Pity, pity.

:The book in question is Takara SF Land Archives (Takara SF Land Daizenshuu, タカラSFランド大全集), published by Kodansha in November 1999. As you can see from the cover image here, it contains images and information on various Takara-original SF toy lines from the 1970s and early 1980s, including Henshin Cyborg, Magnemo, Microman (including Microchange), and Diaclone. All these toy lines predate Transformers. The last two toy lines were the primary source of toy designs for the original TF line from 1984-1985, and even 1986 (e.g., Ultra Magnus). Scattered throughout the book's pages are illustrations showing design art for various Takara toys from those toy lines, along with concept art of toys that were never produced...such as the Planet-Robot drawn by Mr. Hataike.

::You people are contradicting George Dunsay who said that TAKARA is not involved in the design of the transforming planet, which proved that Mr. Dery is the originator of the transforming planet Unicron.

:It's likely Mr. Dery did design Unicron. That does NOT mean he created the idea of a transforming planet. There is a distinct difference.

::You people proved nothing, in fact you have shown that your articles are just SPECULATIONS and MISINFORMATIONS to twist the truth. Why?

:The articles here have provided more visual proof than you have, and argued their case better. Regardless of how people have responded to you personally, the articles themselves present their material quite well. Of course, your biggest gripe of "misinformation" seems to be that the articles claim Mr. Dery didn't design Unicron. They do not claim this. They suggest he did not create the idea of a transforming planet, which is something else entirely. As evidence to support this suggestion, they provide an image from a book about Takara toys that predate TFs.

::For your information, I e-mailed the guy maintaining the website of Mr. Dery, offering Mr. Dery that I will finance and publish his original colored Transformers designs as an art book. If Mr. Dery agrees, I will let you people know.

:I think that would actually be a pretty cool project.

::I am thinking of a book title that will drive you people crazy.

:So you'd risk alienating part of your potential readership?

::I posted here because you blocked my other IP address. I proved that all of you are wrong and confused, so you blocked my IP.

:Your other IPs were blocked because posting from multiple IPs was cluttering the wiki and, in combination with your belligerent attitude, it made you look trollish. All you have to do is register for an account on the wiki; that would solve the problem neatly.

::Pity, but no thanks for all your insults directed against me. But I am not surprise because, generally, those who cannot win the arguments usually use insults to silence their opponents

:The same can be said for people who cannot win by stubbornly and angrily repeating unsupported claims, and so resort to condescension and self-righteousness when they find they've irritated others.--Apcog 01:35, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

----------

I know from your article here that Mr. Dery was the design supervisor of the original series. Assuming that he simplified the simplified drawings of Shohei, then what will his assistants be doing? Are these assistants be simplifying the simplified drawings of Mr. Dery from the simplified drawings of Shohei? This is foolish, isn't it? Marvel studio producer is not an idiot to allow such thing. This shows that Shohei was the one who copied Mr. Dery's cartoon designs.

So, the Japanese book was published in 1999 and the Transformers movie came out in 1986, probably the transforming planet Unicron designs of Mr. Dery were done in 1985. That's a difference of almost 15 years.

Truly, you inadvertently proved that Mr. Dery was the originator of the transforming planet Unicron, Hiroyuki is just a copycat. Also, George Dunsay was right that Takara was not involved in the design of the transforming planet Unicron. You see, what matters is the DATE because the date is the LITMUS TEST.

I will e-mail your post here to the guy maintaining the website of Mr. Dery, to let them know about this things.

85.195.123.24: /* The multiversal mythos */

As in human cultures, in many continuities the Transformers have possessed religion to help them explain and cope with their place in the universe. In continuities where they exist, Transformer spiritual and religious beliefs are usually specifically illustrated to be truth rather than legend or superstition.

Generation 1 cartoon
In the original Generation 1 Cartoon, despite their witnessing supernatural occurrences such as magic and ghosts on a number of occasions without any apparent amazement or surprise there is little direct evidence for general Transformer spiritual or religious beliefs. Kup recommends praying before battle, but does not specify to whom. Five Faces of Darkness

It is known that the spirits of Autobot leaders past dwell within the Matrix of Leadership even after their deaths, but the mechanism of this is unknown. A living Autobot leader can journey within the Matrix to commune with them and receive visions of the past. (Rodimus needed to be near death to achieve this, but Optimus could instigate it at will.) It is unknown how spiritual or how mechanical this whole process is.

The best, if not only, other evidence we have comes from The Transformers: The Movie with the apparent prophecy that "one day an Autobot shall rise from our ranks, and use the power of the Matrix to light our darkest hour" and the repetition, prayer-like, of the phrase "'Til all are one."

Marvel Comics continuity
This is where the concept of Transformer religion and spiritual beliefs really took form and spread. Nearly all subsequent uses of Transformer religion derive from the foundation laid in these stories.

Primary beliefs
The story of the gods Primus and Unicron went through several iterations as they were retold by different speakers over the course of the US and UK comic run. The most distinct difference across these revisions was the fading out of their respective pantheons. When first told, by Unicron, Primus and Unicron were each merely part of a whole pantheon of other light and dark gods respectively. In the next version, by the Keeper, they were the last of their pantheons, the others already having been destroyed or passed on to the Omniversal Matrix. Finally, in the version told by Primus, they were each unique beings with the existence of other gods ignored or refuted. This final version is the most frequently borrowed by later material. (The Botcon "Reaching the Omega Point" story being the notable exception, see below.)

One legend surrounding Primus is that of The Last Autobot, Primus' final guardian who would come after the god's passing and the defeat of Unicron.

Sacred artifacts
The Creation Matrix is the living essence of Primus' life force and considered a sacred artifact. The bearer of it is gifted with the power to create new Transformer life. Each Matrix bearer, known as a Prime, takes a derivation of the name Primus as part of his own. Five have existed: Prima, Prime Nova, Sentinel Prime, Optimus Prime, and Rodimus Prime. Though its existence was well known, the manifest physical nature of the Matrix was not, thus it was ignored by Shockwave when he captured Optimus and, following his death, was launched into space with Optimus' body by his fellow Autobots.

The Matrix Flame on Cybertron is set in a golden blazer on a green alter, and tended by a red tabard clad acolyte. It is the living embodiment of the sacred Creation Matrix. Its status indicates that of the Matrix and its bearer.

Several scriptual texts were recorded in the Covenant of Primus, believed to be prophetic. Only two copies existed.

Believers
After millennia of war, many Transformers regarded Primus and Unicron as mere legends or disregarded them entirely. On hearing the name Primus spoken Bumblebee claims to have almost forgotten the Transformers ever had a God. Even when confronted with a giant head at the center of their planet Grimlock does not at first accept the myth of Primus and Unicron as true.

On the other hand, Emirate Xaaron appears to have believed, and Optimus Prime, likely due to his being Prime, was quick to accept Primus and Unicron. Interestingly, though he is bearer of Primus's life force, Optimus was not one to unthinkingly and zealously follow his god, harboring, at times, serious misgivings and distrust about the use to which Primus was putting his children.

There were likely still some number of true believers, even prior to Primus' reemergence, as the tender of the Matrix Flame and the purple cloaked monk-like elders who aid Prime in the Generation 2 comics attest.

Botcon: "Reaching the Omega Point"
The only other Transformer God, aside from Primus and Unicron, to appear in any story shows up here: The Chronarchitect. He is presumably of Primus' pantheon (see Marvel Comics above) given his alliance. He is the god of time.

The multiversal mythos
Beginning around the time of Transformers: Armada a new version of the Primus/Unicron story began to take shape. This new mythos was most notable for its multiversal nature: it applied not just to the new Unicron Trilogy continuity family but also to the new iterations of Generation 1 being created by Dreamwave and to the multiversal Beast Machines spin-off Transformers: Universe. In fact, by its very nature the new Multiversal Mythos attempted to apply itself to everything, even retroactively to past continuity where it was often a not-so-easy fit.

The basics of this new version of the myth are that both Primus and Unicron were created by "The One," an original God-being, and sent out into the universe as emissaries/explorers. Unicron goes bad and Primus must stop him. For some unexplained reason Primus exists in all possible continuities simultaneously (picture a single string stretching through many rooms) and his destruction in any one of them would destroy all creation, while Unicron, on the other hand, exists in only one Universe at a time ever. There are no "alternate reality" multiversal versions of Unicron, he's just one single God who leaps between universes (picture a ball of yarn thrown from room to room).

Needless to say this is a tricky bit of Retconing that is hard to mesh with the original Cartoon, where there was no Primus and Unicron was only a robot made by Primacron (Allthough steps have been taken by the Wreckers and Universe series to rectify the situation), or the Marvel Comic where Primus is stated to have died and the multiverse doesn't implode.

Alternate beliefs
Cult of Unicron
Some Transformers have willingly (or unwillingly) come to serve the dark god Unicron. The Fallen was the first of these.

In the Marvel Comic, before their long sleep Unicron was able to bury a powerful compulsion in the minds of a number Transformers causing them to form a secret cult of Unicron, which attempted to slay Optimus Prime upon his being named the leader of Primus' forces.

Decepticon religion?
The Decepticon myth of the Ultimate Warrior appears to be a corruption of the Last Autobot story. In the Marvel Comic the mystically inclined Decepticon Bludgeon dedicated his life to the "teachings" of the Ultimate Warrior, a path that may be taken as a possible alternate Cybertronian religion.

In Dreamwave's second War Within miniseries Bludgeon and other like-minded Decepticon mystics are shown to commune with and worship "dark" mystical forces in attempt to gain power.

Needless to say this is a tricky bit of [[retcon|Retconing that is hard to mesh with the original Cartoon, where there was no Primus and Unicron was only a robot made by Primacron (Allthough steps have been taken by the Wreckers and Universe series to rectify the situation), or the Marvel Comic where Primus is stated to have died and the multiverse doesn't implode.

The Japanese Generation 1 series present two characters that might also factor in to a Decepticon religion. Devil Z is described alternately as 'the god of the Destrons' and a guardian angel who's looked after/been worshiped by them. After Devil Z's destruction a new supernatural being arises to lead the Decepticons: Violen Jygar. A demon-like being said to be born from many angry Decepticon sparks, V.J. possessed the supernatural ability to raise the dead.

It has also been speculated that Megatron took his name from a verse from the Covenant of Primus.

Atechnogenesis
Jetfire is often portrayed as being a Transformer atheist due to his scientific worldview. In IDW's comic series he swears by Primacron rather than Primus (Although what that implies about said continuity beyond being a cute in-joke is unknown).
:To explain more clearly, in the pre-Maximal Upgrade flashbacks, Rodimus is drawn in his cartoon character model. In Wreckers' "present day," Rodimus suddenly has more vehicle detail and his toy stickers. It's explicitly a different body with a specific origin. --ItsWalky 03:19, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
Uh, yeah, I think this is a little beyond the actual issue of a "character model"... which is typically a series of drawings done so that the animation-monkeys earning five cents a day in Korea or wherever draw the same thing each cel and details hopefully stay consistent. Not "THIS IS HOW THE CHARACTER WILL LOOK IN EVERY INCARNATION". This is a generally badly-worded article. --M Sipher 02:18, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

:Darik's right, we do need a word for how the character's fictional appearance, and Character Model often times refers to that as well as "official top-down company mandate of what a character is to look like in later media." As for Thylacine 2000's examples those were Artistic Freedom, but in the stories those comic panels were representing, the characters probobly matched their character models. 85.195.123.24 19:03, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

::I thought that sounded weird, too. I don't see the Wreckers interpretation of Hot Rod to be a different model, its just a more 'toyetic' design by a different artist, as Thy said, some 18 years after the original cartoon/comic models. Dan's style didn't become a standard design that was used by other artists, was it? --FFN 03:05, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

:::Except it is representign a different incarnation-- Dan draws hi using his Sunbow model in the opening sequence set at the end of the great war, Hot rod mentions he's about to undergo the maximization process. In the 'present' of the Wreckers, rodimus is now much physically smaller, and he loks different (he has kibble on his legs, etc.) When he was downsized he retained the same type of car as his altmode, but his transformation pattern is now different so his robot mode looks somewhat different.
:::When Rodimus Convoy became a Microtransformer in zone, his robot mode looked different too, the 'parts' were arranged differently even though his car-mode was the same.
:::This is what happened in Wreckers as well-- ecept in Wreckers there's the added layer of confusion in that both his pre-maximization and post-maximization forms are 'represented' by the same toy. -<span style="font-family: Monotype Corsiva; font-size: 15px;">Derik</span> 03:15, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

I lean strongly towards removing the Hot Rod section from this page and putting it on his character page. Do I hear strong objections to that? These are one artist's cosmetic touches and don't belong here. Look at Wildman's interpretations of Cheetor and BWMegs in "Omega Point," far bigger differences than Wrecker Rodimus. Look at Target:2006 where Galvatron IS the toy. Or the Joe/TF crossover where everybody has wires everywhere.

A proper "character model" is an official top-down company mandate of what a character is to look like in later media. It's what Dery and, later, Studio OX made and what all licensees at the time are expected to base their stuff on (and sometimes do so slavishly, thus why the same poses reappear, as mentioned in the Ravage article). It's what's in the TF:Generations book. Khanna's new Hot Rod style is not "the" new Hot Rod style, and if we include it here we'll have to include every crazy creative difference from every artist ever. --Thylacine 2000 13:35, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
His knee design has changed, the tires on his arms are oriented 90 degrees to where they used to be, he now has exhaust pipes on his legs as well, his pelvis is different an his head is somewhat more toyetic.

Also, his colors have shifted from the anime pink-and-orange to a toyetic red-and-orange, most noticeable on his hands which are now orange like the toy, not silver.

It's a different body, just one very similar to his old one... and maybe half as tall. Same artist, same story, same issue; different model.-<span style="font-family: Monotype Corsiva; font-size: 15px;">Derik</span> 03:36, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
: I'd say his new body is about the same size. He's twice the size of Mini-Bots and the same height as as Devcon, after all. The Maximal Upgrade, in his case, perhaps at that early stage, only streamlined his transformation for efficiency, what with the no longer dismissing his kibble into Subspace or whatever. --ItsWalky 05:11, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
I'd like both, frankly. My source for the G2 Autobot is distressingly low-resolution (I consider anythign under 400px wide low reolution) and I'm not entiely sure my blendtron synbol is 100% right. The G2 Decepticon symbol looks nothing whatsoever like Clench besides sharing that diamond-shaped forehead crest, and it's missing arguably the most distinguishing feature of Clench's face - the triangular (point-up) mouthplate. In my opinion, the G2 symbol is clearly a stylized version of the G1 Decepticon symbol. Similarly, there is essentially no similarity between the G2 Autobot symbol and Pyro - the G2 Autobot symbol couldn't much more clearly be Optimus Prime.
I'd need to go back to my G2 issues to check, but I question the validity of suggesting that the G2 Decepticon and Cybertronian symbols are any different. (The only distinction shown here is color, anyway) I also question the simplified versions of the symbols used in the cartoon as "symbols" in their own right, but it seems that I've already been outvoted on that count. The only thing I would ask for is some source text, especially for the more obscure symbols. OK, time for an opinion poll: Should there be pix of both the "Cartoon" and "Comic" versions of the G1 Bot & Con symbols? I would say so, and several of you expressed the same opinion in the above discussions. Earlier today I added the cartoon Bot symbol and the comic Con symbol thereby completing the "pairs", but not soon after, the comic versions were removed. I have since replaced them, not to rebuff that editor, but based on the reasoning that if we can have five different colored Powerlinx symbols (?!), why would we not have both distinct variations of the two main symbols.
::Indeed. There are different Powerlinx symbols depicted because those are all legitimately distinct symbols which were intended to be legitimately distinct symbols, and they all *mean different things*. The Autobot/Decepticon symbols in the cartoon/comic/toyline are all the same symbol but rendered differently due to media format. We are NOT going to have separate entries for every single mis-render of the same symbol design. That's absurd.
::As Derik pointed out, what you had uploaded wasn't even the "cartoon versions" of those symbols! :::It might be reasonable to include the cartoon version of the Decepticon symbol, since it had the whole triple-point deal going. But as far as I know there's no equivalent variation in the Autobot symbol. And, as stated, the painted Decepticon symbol is NOT the cartoon's variant Decepticon symbol. --Andrusi 14:18, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
We're not going to have a picture of every interpertation of every symbol, lest we have a pic of the changes the packaging symbol when through in the G1 line, the different color borders in G2, the slightly different shapes from RID, Armada, Energon, Cybertron, Classics, and the movie. The 3-D, glossy, transition-color "deluxe-looking" (if you will) version appearing on packaging, toon bumpers, etc to my knowledge (and i'm sure someone will correct me if im wrong) was never used on an actual figure, nor did characters in the comics and/or cartoon bear sigils with this appearance. It more or less had media-only usage, correct? In contrast, the 2-D, matte, solid-color "plain-looking" version was the type used on the toys, as well as typically being seen on animated/drawn characters.

::::::Was there ever melding of these two styles? A 3-D glossy symbol with solid colors? or a 2-D matte symbol that transitioned in color? If there was, then I humbly retract my previous ramblings and apologize to the community at large (especially Walky, who seems keen on shooting down whatever i do anyway. And yes, I am aware of the differences between the powerlink colors, but I think my point has validity nonetheless). In any event i do admit to being confused as to exaclty what the "cartoon version" of the Con symbol was in reference to (thank you FortMax). =P

:::::::But if I am correct in saying that there is a measure of deliniation between these two styles, and not just a simple case of "variation" (which is essentially what the "three point crest" is, and you guys seem to think that's worthy of mention), then at the very least I think they should be shown as a footnote of some type to the page, perhaps following the Unused symbols. Evil-yuusha 18:06, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

::::::All of the G1 merchandise that had a symbol not taken from boxart used the logo symbols. The one exception is the marvel US comics, but that was due to the low-tech printing methods used. Plus, whatever the border shaps or solidness of the color, it's still recognizable as the Autobot symbol. The only time we would need a cartoon version on this page is when said sigil only appears in the cartoon. Plus, the only fictional apperences of the package style sigils (that I know of) are in scene bumpers, commercial bumpers, and titles, none of which actually happen in-universe, and the solid colored symbol appeared on the toys before the cartoon or comics were released.

:The ancient faction symbol appeared on the Vector Sigma room, the Archives (IIRC) and the golden Disk room on Paradron. It's ancient, and it has nothing to do with Shockwave. Shockwave welded a blank plate over his faction symbol- he didn't create a new hybrid symbol. Dragons are large reptilian, fire-breathing monsters. Though on modern-day Earth, they are considered mythological creatures by native humans, real specimens have been known to exist.

Dragons can be bipedal, quadrupedal, winged, have necks of various size, and have heads or tails in ranging numbers. Indeed, since the term "dragon" is so generic, it seems possible to describe creatures not native to Earth which fall under the very forgiving criteria as dragons.

Fiction
Generation 1 animated continuity
At least one full-on dragon (reptilian, fire-breathing, winged) has been seen on Earth in medieval times, and a similar but less imposing creature (supposedly from Borneo) in the modern era. The medieval dragon was tremendous in size, dwarfing both humans and averaged-sized Transformers. Although quite dangerous, it was driven off by a wizard using dragon's bane.

Lord Chumley spent years patiently stalking the Kinabalu dragon of Borneo before transporting it back to his estate. He later set it against the captive Optimus Prime. Kinabalu was a little larger than Prime, had no wings, and did not breathe fire. It attacked him with teeth and claws, but Prime threw it off a bridge.

Also, the fictional movie monster Hojoni bears a striking resemblance to the medieval dragon, though wingless.

The only known instance of a non-Terran dragon was in the dimension of Menonia, where a wizard called the Golden One could use magic to take on the form of a large, flying golden dragon.

Classics toyline
Also in the G1 continuity is the Mini-Con, Nightscream. He takes on the form of a dragon similar to that of the aforementioned medieval dragon, but red. It might be added that his connector is on his aft.

Beast Wars
When the Predacon Megatron took on the spark of his Decepticon namesake and was submersed in lava, his form mutated from a Tyrannosaurus rex to a large, red, fire-breathing dragon, possibly hinting at an evolutionary connection between dinosaurs and dragons.

Beast Wars II
Galvatron had the computer on Gaia (future Earth) download the most powerful creature from the planet's past, which resulted in the DNA of a dragon being downloaded into his system along with the planets most powerful weapon, which turned out to be a Drill-tank for some odd reason, resulting in a partly cybernetic, partly organic beast mode. This dragon may confirm the breed's existence as a species.

Unicron Trilogy
The leader of Jungle Planet, Scourge, transformed into a mechanical dragon with the ability to deploy up to three heads. Though the Jungle Planet is populated entirely by Transformers who transform into mechanical beast modes seemingly modeled after Earth creatures, it is unknown if Scourge's alt-mode has any direct connection to mythological dragons of Earth, which he expressed confusion about.
Never a Decepticon, Repugnus is not always an Autobot. No, sometimes he's a former Autobot who has been discharged for insubordination or just plain nastiness, but he always gets called back to perform some mission too unsavory for anybody else. Though he doesn't give slag for authority or decency, Repugnus always does his job well.

Man, does he love his job. He'll describe, with relish, how he clawed an enemy within an inch of his life, then beat the bastard's head to a fuel-soaked wad of scrap metal with his own torn-off leg unit. He'll also add plenty of profanities and colorful idioms to the story. His friends would find this disturbing, if he had any.
Repugnus and the Monsterbots were created accidentally during an attempt to create new Autobots. Kup raced to warn Rodimus Prime and Blurr of the accident, as the wild Monsterbots trashed the lab where they were born. Thankfully the Decepticons attacked just then and the Monsterbots burst out of the building through the wall to fight them. Rodimus expressed relief that, though they were monsters, at least they were Autobot monsters.
Dai Atlas, along with his fellow Powered Masters, created the technologicial planet Zone which eventually developed the super energy source, Energon Z. After the Nine Great Demon Generals attacked and destroyed the planet Feminia, and the Supreme Commander Victory Saber was lost in the explosion, Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber left to search for their leader. The pair eventually found the injured Autobot and returned him to Zone for repairs. They then left for Earth, to counter an attack from the Demon Generals.

Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber arrived just in the nick of time, saving the Autobot Micromasters from the all-powerful Decepticons. Dai Atlas then raced Devastator to the underground location of the Zodiac, an energy source capable of creating an entire universe. Devastator beat Dai Atlas to the punch and handed the Zodiac off to King Poseidon. Dai Atlas killed Devastator in a flood of hot lava and chased King Poseidon to the surface, where he wrestled the Zodiac away from him. Unleashing the power of the Zodiac, both Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber transformed into their base modes and blasted Trypticon and King Poseidon into oblivion. Predaking attempted to escape but was sliced neatly in half by Dai Atlas' blade.
The story that would bring Ginrai into contact with the Transformers began an indeterminate number of years ago, when the super-energy alien being and self-styled "Decepticon god" Devil Z stole several Transtectors - including one intended to be used by the legendary Autobot leader Optimus Prime - from an area of space known as the G Nebula. Already filled with the Tenchokon of the nebula, the Transtectors were then scattered across the Earth by Devil Z, that they might absorb the planet's Chichokon. Devil Z planned to have human beings bond to the Transtectors, adding their inherent Jinchokon to the equation, thereby creating a new super-robotic lifeform - Godmasters.

Through undivulged circumstances, the Transtector intended for Prime assumed the form of a red tractor trailer cab, and came to rest in a small garage in California. The unwitting garage owner rented the cab to several truckers, but always found it returned early, with complaints of unusual, even supernatural, incidents.
Two years after coming to America, Ginrai happened to be transporting an ill dolphin to the Ocean Research Institue of California, run - unbeknownst to him - by the Autobot Pretender Diver. Destiny stepped in when Ginrai's truck broke down on the way, and he pulled in at this very garage, where the owner rented him the Transtector to complete his delivery. In the glove box of the cab, he discovered a pair of Master-Braces and slipped them on his wrists, only to discover that he was unable to remove them. When Diver laid eyes upon the bracelets, he recognised the basic design of them, and insisted that Ginrai take him back to the garage where he had found the truck. On the way, however, they were attacked by the Decepticon Godmaster brothers Hydra and Buster, who forced the truck off a cliff. Accidentally touching the bracelets as he attempted to escape the crushed cab, Ginrai was infused with the Masterforce and a suit of armor materialised around him, healing both himself and the Transtector, as they combined and transformed. Now a Godmaster himself, Ginrai saw the shocked Decepticon off. The Hero is Chosen, and His Name is Ginrai!

Ginrai was at first unsure of what to make of his new powers, and was not entirely keen on joining the Autobots, as the notion of operating as part of a command structure, and being tied down to a specific place ran directly counter to his desire for freedom in his life. Although he promised to aid them when necessary "for the sake of the world" - a mantra that he admitted he had a weakness for - he soon bore witness to the true evil of the Decepticons when Hydra and Buster killed several of his fellow truckers while searching for him. Ginrai was still, however, not entirely willing to join the Autobots, but fate kept on pushing him to do so - he soon suffered a prophetic dream, after which he discovered three more pairs of Master-Braces in his Transtector, indicating the presence of more Godmasters on Earth.

When Ginrai brought the bracelets to Japan for study at the Autobot base, events began to escalate as Transtector activated on its own, transporting Ginrai to his birthplace of Nagano, or more specifically, a construction site at the base of Mount Yatsugatake there. Blasting for a tunnel through the mountain had been blocked by a mysterious object, which proved to be a trailer for Ginrai's truck, which burst from the tunnel during another battle with Buster and Hydra. Later still, the two brothers lured Ginrai into a public battle that they might blame the conflict on him, and turn public opinion against the Autobots; the plan was failed, but a friend of Ginrai's offered the suggestion that his becoming a Godmaster was the will of God himself.

Not long thereafter, in a battle with King Poseidon, Ginrai discovered that his cab and trailer were capable of performing a "Double On," merging together to create the super-robot, "Super Ginrai." Additionally, after appearing on TV in hopes of locating the remaining three Godmasters, to whom he would give the Master-Braces, Ginrai successfully located Lightfoot, Ranger and Road King, and recruited them to the Autobot side. With this success, the Autobot leader Metalhawk stepped down as commander and requested that Ginrai take his place. After some deliberation, and much hassling from the other Autobot Pretenders, who wouldn't let him say no, Ginrai accepted.

When Grand Maximus arrived on Earth to inform Ginrai's Autobots of the impending arrival of the Decepticon super-weapon, BlackZarak, he provided them with the schematics necessary to create the drone, Godbomber. Metalhawk and the Pretenders raced to finish the construction of Godbomber, but as the so-called "Bomber Project" neared completion, Ginrai was lured into the desert by a disguised Buster and Hydra (under the auspices of performing some stunt driving for a movie), and was attacked and resoundingly defeated by the Decepticon Ambassador of Destruction, Overlord. Following a failed attack on the Bomber Project facility, the barely-healed Ginrai insisted upon taking the fight to the Decepticons, combining with the completed Godbomber to form "God Ginrai." In his new form, Ginrai confroned Overlord and BlackZarak on the moon, where he fully embraced his role as protector of Earth, and defeated the Decepticons with the aid of Grand Maximus.

Some time later, BlackZarak was able to return to Earth and merge with Devil Z, forcing the Autobots into a series of battle to protect countries all around the Earth. Tracking the villains to the Matterhorn, God Ginrai was forced into a final battle with the hybrid entity atop the mountain and succeeded in decapitating the villain, but BlackZarak then assumed a new hydra alternate mode, which God Ginrai destroyed with his God Fire Guts attack. His powers boosted by the Headmaster Juniors God Ginrai then executed the almighty Final Fire Guts attack, destroying Devil Z.

With Devil Z's death, the bonding between Transtector and human that he had engineered ceased to exist, and Ginrai and the other humans were separated from their Transtectors. The Transtectors, however, had been evolved through their partnership with the humans, and continued to exist as true super-robot life forms. Having imprinted his human partner's personality, Ginrai's Transtector departed for space to pursue the surviving Decepticons and rejoin the greater war.

Masterforce manga
The Masterforce manga forgoes re-telling Ginrai's origins, simply indicating that he exists, then introducing him in the midst of a battle with Buster and Hydra. Similarly, the other Autobot Godmasters are introduced in such a manner, although here, their creation comes before Ginrai's acquisition of his trailer, and they present it to him at an opportune moment. The most notable moment for Ginrai in the manga comes when he and the Autobots are taken to the planet Athenia by the Trainbots, and Ginrai succeeds Fortress as Supreme Commander of the Autobots, a rank there is no indication he attains in the anime.

Victory animated series
The Ginrai Transtector - now having taken its human partner's name as its own, becoming known as Ginrai itself - joined with the Autobot forces in space, where he became good friends with Star Saber and his adopted human son, Jan Minakaze. Before long, Star Saber was appointed Supreme Commander of the Autobots, while Ginrai became commander of the Defense Force for Space Sector Two. Operating out of a base in the G Nebula, Ginrai's time was occupied battling the Decepticon forces under Overlord's control, so much so that Star Saber occasionally had to respond to emergencies in Sector Two, such as a Breastforce attack on planet Micro.

Feeling guilty over taking up Star Saber's time in such a manner, Ginrai was quick to come to his aid when he was lured into a trap on Earth by Decepticon Emperor of Destruction Deathsaurus. Confronting Deathsaurus in battle, Ginrai was struck by a blast from the villain's Living-Metal-Destroying Cannon and badly damaged. Despite the best medical efforts of Perceptor, Wheeljack, and Minerva Ginrai's body was left useless and immobile. Due to a slip by Perceptor, however, he learned of the existence of a reconstruction process conceived by Star Saber that would allow him to become a power-up for the Autobot leader. Star Saber refused to allow him to submit to the process, revolted at the notion of using his close friend's body in such a way, but Ginrai insisted. Perceptor and Wheeljack brought his life functions to an end, and then restored him to Star Saber's specifications as Victory Leo.

:A remoulded version of the American Powermaster Optimus Prime figure, Ginrai is a red, blue and grey tractor trailer, only able to transform into robot mode when the small Ginrai human figure is put into engine mode and snapped into place in the truck's grill, unlocking the clasp that holds the legs in place. When the cab is in robot mode, the trailer can become a battle station; either robot or station can be armed with any of the toy's weapons, including two black guns and two grey double-barrelled "cannon craft," which can be piloted by the small Godmaster figures. The two components can be merged into "Super Ginrai", whose head is a separate piece, and could go on to combine with the separately-sold Godbomber to become God Ginrai.

:Differences between Powermaster Optimus Prime and Ginrai include a die-cast metal cab with translucent blue plastic windows, shortened smokestacks, a more metallic grey plastic, chrome on the Godmaster Ginrai engine, and silver paint rather than stickers for the small robot's upper legs. Only in the reissue are there blue eyes for the small Ginrai robot.
:Super Ginrai was also sold in a giftset with Godbomber, who could disassemble his parts and combine with Super Ginrai to form God Ginrai. Godbomber's legs became boots, to which the Ginrai's grey cannons attached, his chest and wings formed a backpack, while his arms clipped over the top of Ginrai's own, and his back became a chromed chestplate, to the top of which the his spring-loaded "God Cannon" plugged.
Fiction
Marvel Comics continuity
During the long absence of Optimus Prime, Megatron, and their respective troops from Cybertron, unit commander Fortress Maximus became so sick of the war that he decided to leave it. He didn't care if it made him a coward or not, he simply believed that the war would go on regardless of whether or not he was in it. Taking a number of Autobots with him, he retreated to the peaceful planet of Nebulos.

Unfortunately, it wasn't long before mistakes were made and Maximus' group found themselves at odds with the local human populace. Maximus 'proved' their peaceful intentions by marching up to the Nebulan capital, and discarding the group's weapons. When that didn't work, he did the next logical thing and pulled his head off. Four other Autobots also resorted to this grotesque stunt before Galen, head of the Nebulan World Watchers, was convinced they weren't a threat. Ring of Hate!

When the Decepticons followed the Autobots to Nebulos, Galen himself ended up becoming the head of Fortress Maximus to help defend the peace and his world, as both the Nebulan and Autobot underwent the binary-bonding process to become a Headmaster. Fortress Maximus remained the leader of the Nebulan Autobots for the rest of their battles there, eventually abandoning the planet to support his stranded comrades on Earth. During the transport, Fortress Maximus underwent a number of treatments to alter his size considerably, increasing himself from a city-sized behemoth to a slightly larger city-sized behemoth. With these changes, he could save a lot of time in combat by simply stepping on Decepticons instead of having to actually fight them.

Of course, with his larger scale, Fort Max needed a new head (Galen still being stuck at roughly human-size). For this reason, another Autobot, Cerebros, was added to serve as a secondary stage between Galen and Maximus. As the head of Cerebros, Galen could transform Cerebros into the larger head of Fortress Maximus.

Sadly, while fighting to rescue Buster Witwicky's previously-unmentioned older brother Spike, Galen was killed in battle. Spike quickly took up the mantle of Fortress Maximus, undergoing the binary bond himself and soon becoming one of the unofficial leaders of the Autobots (Grimlock being the other and Optimus Prime being dead at the time).

Spike and Fortress Maximus would go on to have a very tumultuous relationship, fighting both the Decepticons and, at times, each other, as Spike constantly expressed his displeasure at being the large Autobot's partner. On more than one occasion, Spike would try to go his own way, but time and time again the Decepticons would pose some sort of threat to the planet so immense that he would have to join with Fortress Maximus to combat it.

After the other Autobots and Decepticons left Earth to battle Unicron, Spike and Fort Max remained on Earth to safeguard the planet. Thus, when the remains of the Ark fell from orbit and crashed in the northern tundra of Canada, and Galvatron emerged from the wreckage to wreak havoc, it fell to Fortress Maximus to stop him. Despite his success in that mission, it was actually Megatron who would prove to be the undoing of this giant warrior: when the reborn and reconditioned Decepticon leader stole the Ark and used it as his personal flagship, Spike and Max took it upon themselves to stop him. Brutally beaten in combat with an upgraded and super-charged Megatron, the pair dragged themselves to the heart of the ship and threw themselves into the anti-matter containment unit at the core of its power supply, killing both of them. To add further insult to their sacrifice, it was a complete waste of effort: every other Transformer who was on board, including Megatron, managed to survive the destruction of the ship and lived to fight another day.

The Rebirth, Part 3When the Hive of Nebulos had developed the massive Transformer Scorponok in 2007, Spike found that his only available resources to combat the threat were the Hive's older technology and the pacifist Autobot Cerebros. Spike used the technology to create an Autobot giant, at the same time re-engineering Cerebros to become the new robot's head, and to take Spike himself as his own head (Cerebros seemed to get little say in these matters). The giant, named Fortress Maximus, blasted off for Cybertron, where he expectedly fought (and won) against Scorponok. After Maximus/Cerebros and Spike saved Cybertron and Earth from the Hive and the Decepticons, Optimus Prime sent them back to Nebulos as its guardians.

Fortress Maximus seemed to have no sentience of his own in the English TV series. In fact, for the most part, even Cerebros' will seemed to be pushed aside so Spike could run the whole thing himself. Spike's a bit selfish.

In this story, Headmasters were not the binary-bonded forms of Transformers and organic beings. Instead, human-sized Transformers had long ago left Cybertron and established themselves on the planet Master. To best survive there, they built large bodies that they could transform to become the heads of. The leader of the Autobot faction on Master was named Fortress. Fortress took the Headmaster process one step further: Fortress Maximus was the combined and transformed form of Fortress and the Battleship Maximus. Fortress would sometimes run the battleship while sitting on the bridge transformed into a giant head.
: In all modes, Maximus has a wide array of pop-out (non-firing) guns and gimmicks. Its left leg hides a small prison cell, plus has a swing-out cannon/helipad. Its right leg has a small storage compartment. Its torso has a gear-activated spinner for the detachable radar array accessory, a "control socket" for Cerebros' "communcations tower" mode, and a working elevator that can lift small toys up to its central ramp to be launched in its altmodes. (The crank for this elevator ends up in a very unfortunate position in robot mode.) Each arm had a long ramp on the back with sliding launchers for small vehicles.

: Its robot-mode head is formed by Cerebros, who does not actually need Spike to attach to the upper body. It came with both Headmaster units, plus the Gasket and Grommet mini-vehicles.

: The Japanese release of Fortress Maximus came with a pair of swords; one for Fortress, a large one for Maximus. It is currently unknown if the swords were originally planned for the Hasbro version but dropped for price or safety concerns, or if they were a Takara-initiated addition to their release of the toy.

: This mold was used to make Masterforce Grand Maximus, Robots in Disguise Brave Maximus, and Robot Masters "Cybertron City".
Trivia
* 'Fortress Maximus' was likely a considered name for the character that eventually became Metroplex in Generation 1. The Marvel comic adaptation of the 1986 Movie even refers to Autobot City as Fortress Maximus in a caption.

* Fortress Maximus was the first toy to be released with a bona-fide Earthling figure. All of the other Headmasters' companions were from Nebulos. (Although Maximus' tech specs refer to 'the Nebulan leader, Spike', the general consensus is that it was supposed to be the popular figure from TV and other media, who is almost certainly an Earthling.)

* In the comic series, Fortress Maximus was originally small enough that a human alone could become his head. Later, he was increased in size so that the Cerebros robot was needed to complete the transformation. Yet, when Spike prepares to join with him for their final battle, there is no sign of Cerebros and Fort Max is shown to be no larger than Megatron. Was he reduced back to his original, smaller, size? If so, when? And why would they bother to shrink a headless corpse, let alone re-work Spike's armour so that he no longer needed Cerebros? He had been retired for years by that point.

* Fortress Maximus has the distinction of having one of the most well known Transformers bootleg versions in existence. While Cerebros has been omitted, the Spike figure is the same, and the body has been scaled down to match, effectively making the body compatible with any other Headmaster head. It also fetches absurd prices for a bootleg.

* In America, Fortress Maximus is seven distinct flavors of awesome, while in Japan he is only 3 kinds of awesome.

Headmasters (Japan)
:Voice Actor: Ikuya Sawaki

In this story, Headmasters were not the binary-bonded forms of Transformers and organic beings. Instead, human-sized Transformers had long ago left Cybertron and established themselves on the planet Master. To best survive there, they built large bodies that they could transform to become the heads of. The leader of the Autobot faction on Master was named Fortress. Fortress took the Headmaster process one step further: Fortress Maximus was the combined and transformed form of Fortress and the Battleship Maximus. Fortress would sometimes run the battleship while sitting on the bridge transformed into a giant head.

Super-God Masterforce (Japan)
Fortress was seen briefly and indistinctly as he introduced his brother, Grand Maximus.
Dreamwave comics continuity
Maximus was first seen in a Matrix-induced vision of future Nebulos by Optimus Prime in the War Within era.

Later in the same era, Fortress Maximus and Ultra Magnus were struggling to hold the Autobot forces on Cybertron together.
An Autobot Pretender under the command of Metalhawk, Lander has easily adapted to the human lifestyle, and greatly enjoys it. He collects wine, goes on dates with humans, and wears glasses just for the hell of it. What a guy!

In vehicle mode, he can travel over water and land with ease. In robot mode his right hand retracts to release knockout gas. Hmm.
: Available only as a mail-away piece in Japan, Lander is physically identical to the Hasbro Pretender Landmine. Lander's outer Pretender shell resembles a human in a yellow and gray armoured space suit (but lacks the glasses of the animation model, pooh), armed with a gray sword and a gray blaster rifle. The shell's helmet and front-half of the belt are also removable, used to help "lock" the shell-halves together. This shell has very limited articulation, located in his shoulders.

Lander's inner robot has good articulation for the period he was released in, owing to his relatively simple transformation and design. The robot transforms into a predominantly gray Cybertronic mining vehicle. The gray rifle can be stored on the top of this mode.

The story of Overlord begins with the mysterious alien energy-being, Devil Z, who sought to create the ultimate super-robot lifeform. Stealing a selection of Transformer Transtectors – lifeless robot bodies designed to merge with smaller robots – from a sector of space known as G Nebula 89, he scattered them across the Earth, intending for them to absorb the planet’s energies, known as Chichokon, in addition to the heavenly Tenchokon energy they had acquired from the G Nebula. Alongside the largest of the eight Transtectors brought to the planet, Devil Z slumbered deep within an ocean trench, awaiting the day that his plan could come to fruition, and human souls would bond with the Transtectors, endowing them with Jinchokon, the power of man, and giving the resultant lifeforms, the Godmasters, the power over the three primal energies of life. That day came when two human begins, a husband and wife named Giga and Mega, came into Devil Z’s service and were both bonded with the largest Transtector. The duo now controlled the dual aspects of the Transtector – Giga piloted the "Gigatank," while Mega controlled the "Megajet."

With Devil Z already having brainwashed BlackZarak, the commander of the evil Decepticons – currently engaged in battling the heroic Autobots in the depths of space – Overlord was branded as a Decepticon, ambassador to Devil Z's emperor. While Devil Z’s other agents, the Decepticon Pretenders and Headmaster Juniors, kept the small Autobot force remaining on Earth occupied, the so-dubbed "Lord Giga" and "Lady Mega" set about locating other Godmasters on Earth, finding the German brothers Hydra and Buster and recruiting them to the Decepticon side. After the two groups of Decepticons were then gathered together under Giga and Mega’s command, a race ensued between the Autobots and Decepticons to locate the remaining Godmasters, only for the Autobots to acquire three.

Incensed by this failure, Giga and Mega took matters into their own hands, taking their Transtectors into battle for the first time. Luring the Autobot command Ginrai into the desert, Giga and Mega confronted him as Overlord and immediately proved their physical superiority by thrashing him so badly that he was near death. Overlord subsequently departed into space, taking control of a weather-monitoring base on the moon in order to rendezvous with the approaching BlackZarak there. Pursued by Ginrai, now merged with the drone Godbomber as the powered-up God Ginrai, Overlord and BlackZarak battled him and the Autobot battleship Grand Maximus; refusing to follow Overlord’s instruction to return to Earth, BlackZarak ultimately met defeat and fled back into space.

Overlord later adopted his base mode for the first time to act as a staging ground for the search for the final Godmaster, and again to mastermind the assault of the Autobot base. When BlackZarak returned, Devil Z’s plans escalated to the destruction of all human life on Earth, shocking Giga and Mega; where Devil Z had come to fear the power of Jinchokon that dwelled within all human beings, the couple celebrated their humanity. Dissention grew as Devil Z fused with BlackZarak and abandoned the Headmaster Juniors in the ruins of the destroyed Decepticon base, and Buster and Hydra, believing that their inability to defeat Ginrai was the result of human limitations, were transformed into fully robotic beings through Devil Z’s power. Confronting God Ginrai for one final time, Overlord vowed to fight him without weapons, battling him only through the use of his physical strength, through the power of his human flesh. When Devil Z turned on Buster and Hydra for their own failures, however, Overlord attempted to stop him, only to be on the receiving end of the emperor’s wrath. Rescued by God Ginrai, Giga and Mega finally turned against Devil Z, but when they aided God Ginrai in combating their former master, they were struck down and forcibly separated from their Transtector, which was brought to life through Devil Z’s power. As their Masterbraces vanished from their wrists, Giga and Mega died, regretting that they could not settle their rivalry with Ginrai honourably.

With the subsequent destruction of Devil Z at God Ginrai’s hands, the now-living Overlord Transtector fled into space with the other Decepticons, and joined with the main Decepticon force in space.

Masterforce manga
Whereas the anime did not explain how Mega and Giga came to serve Devil Z, the manga strongly implied that they were a couple who had died at sea, and Devil Z, from his ocean trench resting place, recovered and reanimated their bodies. The characters are cast in much more of a "parental" role for the Headmaster Juniors than in the anime (where the idea is only dabbled with), as if to give the couple the family that they died before they had the chance to start.

Giga and Mega debuted their Transtectors in an attack on a city, only to be blindsided by God Ginrai and goaded into pursuing him out into space. BlackZarak, however, was waiting for them, but God Ginrai was able to dodge their attacks and cause them to damage each other. Indeed, Overlord was no stranger to chassis-shattering damage in the manga, at one time actually having Grand Maximus's battleship mode crash straight into his face, and being punched by God Ginrai so hard that Giga and Mega popped out of his chest.

During the final battle, the merged Devil Z-BlackZarak entity turned on Overlord and the Decepticons, who then teamed up with the Autobots to unite their energies in a final attack that destroyed him. The destruction of Devil Z caused the energy sustaining Giga and Mega to cease, and they died.

(Overlord is referred to as one of the Nine Great Demon Generals. This terminology, coupled with the presence of the previously deceased Black Zarak in their ranks and Violen Jygar's supernatural origins, could mean that Overlord died previously to Zone and was likewise brought back to life. However, this is unconfirmed, meaning that Violen Jygar may have simply recruited the still-living Overlord to be a General.)

When Violen Jygar siezed command of the Decepticons, his first act was to recruit 9 Demon-Generals from Decepticon history.
Overlord is the battlefield leader of the Decepticons during the Masterforce War, serving as the so-called "Ambassador of Destruction" under the Emperor of Destruction, Devil Z. As the combined form of the two human Godmasters, Mega and Giga, Overlord comprises a tank and jet which can combine to form a robot mode, a heavily-equipped advance base, or a larger jet capable of space flight.

Fiction
Dreamwave Comics
In the early era of Decepticon expansion into space, Gigatron (Overlord's american name) performed research that formed the foundation for the later Powermaster proscess.

He would later re-emerge to challenge Powermaster Optimus Prime

Overlord, a legendary Decepticon whose many functions are driven by Energon figures, fights the Motorvators on a post-apocalyptic Earth.

Overlord was selected to be one of those Generals and was given the rank of Super God General as well as new power and weaponry to make him an even greater threat than before. Overlord was sent to the Planet Feminia to wreak havoc along with Abominus and Menasor.
