'''Prowl''' is not a verbose Maximal, preferring instead to listen. He gathers information, analyzes it, and instantly suggests an appropriate course of action. His logical mind is without match among his Maximal brethren, who rank him among their best military strategists. Prowl feels that he fulfilled that same role in a previous life.

==Origins and complications==

Due to the fact that ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'' (1986) was not released in Japan until 1990, the production staff of the assorted Japanese-exclusive series were not entirely aware of the fact that several characters died during the film. As a result, these deceased characters continued to appear in subsequent Japanese series—[[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]] in ''[[The Headmasters (cartoon)|The Headmasters]]'', [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] in ''[[Victory (cartoon)|Victory]]''. Prowl was an especially erroneous instance, because he had been ''specifically'' name-checked as being among the deceased in the Japanese dub of "[[Dark Awakening]]", and yet... here he was.

The story accompanying ''[[Binaltech]]'' (2003-2005) introduced the [[Genetronic Translink]] System, a mechanism which allowed Transformers to simultaneously operate multiple bodies. This served as a possible explanation for the survival of many of these characters, but it did not explain how Prowl could still be around, since he had specifically been stated to be dead. Enter "Prowl 2", an identical clone (sort of) with Prowl's memories that seemingly [[retcon]]ned the appearances in ''The Headmasters'' into being "Prowl 2", rather than Prowl.

This continuity patch-job failed to stick, however—at the conclusion of the ''Binaltech'' storyline, its events were branched off into a parallel dimension, leaving the appearances of Prowl in ''The Headmasters'' as an anomaly once more.

The anomaly continued in early 2008, when IDW's ''[[Beast Wars Sourcebook]]'' profiled the [[Transmetal 2]] [[Beast Wars (franchise)|Beast Warrior]] Prowl. Originally released in 1998, this Prowl's [[bio]] noted that he believed himself "to have been a great military strategist in a former life," a reference to the original Prowl. As the ''Sourcebook'' had already chosen to represent the [[Magnaboss]] component ''also'' known as Prowl as an upgraded version of the original character, TM2 Prowl—here given the moniker of "Prowl II"—was established to be an upgraded version of the semi-clone from ''Binaltech''.

This is not an ideal situation, however. The IDW ''Beast Wars'' storyline occurs simultaneously with the ''Beast Wars'' cartoon, and the events of the branched-off ''Binaltech'' timeline do not line up with the ''Beast Wars'' show (specifically, in the Generation 1-era of the ''Beast Wars'' universe, [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] is known to have killed [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], but in the ''Binaltech'' timeline, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] never even ''becomes'' Galvatron). Offered a glimpse of the fast-approaching future by the time-travelling [[Decepticon]] [[Ravage]], [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] was witness to the death of Prowl and various other Autobots in the year 2005. In an attempt to alter the course of these events, he began [[Project Bodyshop]], developing new Binaltech bodies for his comrades that they would be able to control via the [[GT System]]. A body was developed to be used a secondary unit by Prowl, and designated "Prowl 2."

When Prowl came under attack from Decepticons on a mission in the vicinity of Saturn, Wheeljack made a desperate attempt to preserve Prowl's life by attempting a long-range transfer of his spark into his new body via [[sub-space]]. Unfortunately, the process malfunctioned and Prowl's spark was lost. The body, however, had already been programmed with Prowl's [[datatrax]], and [[Chip Chase]], recalling [[Roll For It|the time years before]] when he had taken control of Prowl's body, and volunteered to have his own mind transferred into the shell, bringing it to true life as the new Prowl.

Prowl was stationed at [[Autobot City]] on Earth in 2011 when he and many other troops were summoned to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] to help repel a [[Decepticon]] invasion. On the way to the [[space bridge]], the Autobots were attacked by a Decepticon attack force led by [[Sixshot]], but the arrival of the [[Trainbot]]s allowed them to break away and continue their progress. The Decepticons pursued them, and Prowl joined with [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]] in lending [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] supporting fire until the Decepticon offensive broke. Prowl commented that they had showed their foes, and the team headed on to Cybertron. {{storylink|Four Warriors Come out of the Sky}}

Like Jazz, Prowl got two different Binaltech decos released in equal numbers. The second version, known as Vivid Blue Pearl Prowl, is a civilian version with no police lights, a mostly blue interior, a Honda logo (instead of the cherry blossom emblem) on the grill, and a solid blue car-shell. His robot-mode parts remained mostly the same color, however.

This mold (the Japanese blue Prowl variant, combined with parts from American police Prowl) was used to make Alternators Camshaft.

One of [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]]'s most reliable [[Mini-Cassette|spies]], Ravage believes unwaveringly in the Decepticon cause, and Megatron embodies that cause. To serve Megatron, Ravage has become the most efficient and deadly war machine under his command. He hides himself in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to strike with grim accuracy. His name is synonymous with stealth. His survivors are few.

Ravage's only weakness is bright light, which can temporarily blind him. Perhaps his absolute loyalty to Megatron can blind him as well.

One of the original team of Decepticons that accompanied [[Megatron]] on the attack of the ''[[Ark]]'' spacecraft, Ravage was reformatted by [[Teletraan-1]] as an audiocassette to better blend in for operations based on Earth. Ravage served loyally as a Decepticon spy. Shortly thereafter, Ravage accompanied Soundwave on an infiltration mission to gather data from Teletraan 1. Triple-I agreed, and used a fake Binaltech project (filled under the pretense of "technological synthesis tests"), to provide their part of the bargain. However, to truly bring the new Ravage to life, Triple-I stole the present-day Ravage - who had been captured by the [[Earth Defense Command]] and stasis-locked into his cassette mode - and implanted him into the new Ravage, thereby 'fusing' the old and new Ravages into one.

This new Ravage, however, had no intention of fulfilling his end of the bargain and, after eliminating his benefactors and learning to his shock that history did not change in his faction's favor, decided to rectify his mistake. First on his agenda was his former commander, Megatron; stealing an Autobot shuttle, he located and repaired the [[Kronosphere]] and - during a decisive battle between Megatron's and Optimus Prime's forces that would have normally ended with the Autobots being forced off of Cybertron and into their moon bases - turned the weapon on his own faction, trapping Megatron and his crew in a space-time rift. This alteration in the timeline served two purposes: first, it would give the Autobots the chance to retake Cybertron, which would then lead to them having to face off against the oncoming [[Unicron]] alone, severely weakening them in the process. The second, and more important, purpose was to keep Megatron alive and in good mental health (relatively speaking), thus preventing him from becoming the insane [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], and allowing him to lead the Decepticons to victory over the battle-weary Autobots. Ravage also [[Transmuter|Transmuted]] [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] into a new Binaltech body of his own, so he could lead the remaining Decepticons in Megatron's absence, and secretly derailed many of the Autobots' supply missions, further weakening them for their battle with the Chaos Bringer.

Unfortunately for him, the Autobot named [[Overdrive]] became aware of Ravage's meddling in history, thanks to his acute sensitivity of the timestream, and - with the help of [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] - captured the wayward Decepticon and forced a confession out of him. Ravage, however, was not without a trump card, revealing that his alterations may prevent the deaths of many of the Autobots destined to die in the normal timeline (which, as a distinction between the two, was dubbed 'Prime Time' by Wheeljack, Ravage's altered timeline being called 'Ravage Time'), though in the grand scheme of things, only Optimus could not be considered expendable, as he contained the one thing that could bring down Unicron (the [[Autobot]] [[Matrix of Leadership]]). By the time of his capture, however, Unicron had already been sighted on a collision course with Cybertron and, despite the temptation of preventing future deaths among his ranks, Optimus decided Ravage's plans to be too dangerous to allow to come to fruition. I lean strongly towards removing the Hot Rod section from this page and putting it on his character page. Do I hear strong objections to that? These are one artist's cosmetic touches and don't belong here. Look at Wildman's interpretations of Cheetor and BWMegs in "Omega Point," far bigger differences than Wrecker Rodimus. Look at Target:2006 where Galvatron IS the toy. Or the Joe/TF crossover where everybody has wires everywhere.

A proper "character model" is an official top-down company mandate of what a character is to look like in later media. It's what Dery and, later, Studio OX made and what all licensees at the time are expected to base their stuff on (and sometimes do so slavishly, thus why the same poses reappear, as mentioned in the Ravage article). It's what's in the TF:Generations book. Did Leo Prime have any actual personality in the Japanese stuff to record as his profile? As of right now it's mostly kinda a recounting of BW2 continuity specific story material rather than a true character profile. We should definately have a real profile whenever the IDW BW Guide comes out (soooon peeaaasse) but I was wondering if there was anything we could say about him personality wise as of now? Question: Now that we know that the Classic "Legends" figures have no character/bio info on the cards (we DO know that right, I'm not imagining it?) don't we have to question if "Leo Prime" is actually the same characters as "Lio Convoy"? I mean, *YES* his deco is definately a homage, but LOTS of Universe toys feature homage-decos and the *exact* same names as existing G1 characters, and we've consistantly and purposely refused to treat them as being new versions of the existing robots here, because there's no official proof/bio/characterization one way or the other. Leo Prime's case is pretty much exactly the same thing isn't it (or possibly even weaker, since in those cases even the names matched perfectly)? Certianly a homage, but with nothing official to confirm it, there's no way to really say he's the same guy from BW2. Not officially. Am I missing something? Spinning offa this, is there now more solid precedent for renaming Overlord as Gigatron? HOC is at least as valid as LOC, if anything it's actually more detailed. I understand some people are reluctant due to Dreamwave giving their character of Gigatron a completely different backstory than the fictional Overlord ever could have had--however, no material was ever canonically published that linked Overlord to Gigatron. Just interviews with Patyk/McDonaugh about where they'd like to take the character. It strikes me as no more consequential than 'The Greater Ape'. So why not rename?

However, Prime's head, though detached, still functioned, and the Autobot Commander told Ratchet that he must rise up to meet this challenge. Still, Ratchet tried. Shockwave had returned in full strength and deposed the mighty [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]. In his weakened state, Megatron could not hope to defeat Shockwave and reclaim his leadership, but Ratchet approached him with a possible solution. Ratchet knew how Shockwave had fallen 4 million years ago, and struck a deal -- if Ratchet could defeat Shockwave, Megatron would relinquish Decepticon control of the Ark and its wrecked Autobot inhabitants.

Ratchet journeyed to the [[Savage Land]], where the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] had fought Shockwave to a stalemate, leaving all dormant in a tar pit prison. He dug up the Dinobots and repaired them. Soon after, he met with Megatron on a snowy ski slope, and announced that he had fulfilled his half of the bargain. Shockwave was defeated. Megatron, of course, went back on his part of the deal and threatened to kill Ratchet. Ratchet declared that he knew all along Megatron would not hold his end of the bargain, admitted that he had not, in fact, defeated Shockwave. The Dinobots sprung up out of the snow surrounding Megatron, and fought him, but did not succeed. Megatron now stood alone, triumphant, mocking Ratchet and his lack of a warrior's edge. With nothing to lose, Ratchet charged Megatron, but he was ineffectual. However, the charge had loosened the ground on which Megatron stood, and the Decepticon leader fell off the cliff side and disappeared. {{storylink|Repeat Performance!}}

After the destruction of Optimus Prime, Ratchet was unable to repair him. Unable to deal with his failure, Ratchet wandered off on his own during Optimus' funeral. Ratchet decided that rather than moping, he should concern himself with the other damaged Autobots under his care, so he headed towards a junkyard to look for spare parts he could use. However, he was abducted in vehicle mode by the [[Mechanic]] and his accomplice [[Juan]], when the two thieves were found by the police. Ratchet revealed himself when they arrived at the Mechanic's hideout, but the Mechanic froze Ratchet with his own surgical weapons and headed for the Ark, intent on finding technology that would ensure he would never be threatened by the police again. When he had unfrozen, Ratchet followed the human back to the Ark, but was defeated by his own surgical tools. But using pieces he took from the junkyard, he repaired [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]], and the appearance of the police car frightened the Mechanic away. When an [[Underbase]]-powered [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] decimated the Earthbound Autobot forces, Ratchet was left with the monumental task of repairing them. During a period of work-induced stress, he began to hallucinate visions of his patients attacking him and accusing him of being worthless. It was during this time that the Decepticon [[Sports Car Patrol]], posing as Autobots, offered to help transport Ratchet to Cybertron, where he could have access to new medical technology that had been created during his 4 million-year absence on Earth. He and three of the Sports Car Patrol took the bodies of [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]], [[Jazz]], and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Goldbug]] with him, though Ratchet was curious why [[Blackjack]] stayed behind on the Ark. Megatron brought Ratchet the remains of Starscream. He demanded Ratchet repair him while Blackjack held the Ark and its medical bay inhabitants hostage. After Pretender Starscream was sent to Earth, Megatron sought out Ratchet to kill him, but he had his own Pretenders ready. {{storylink|The Resurrection Gambit!}} Ratchet sprung Grimlock, Jazz, and Bumblebee (Ratchet preferred Bumblebee's original form) on Megatron, but Megatron and his Micromasters were too powerful for them. Sacrificing his life, Ratchet warped the bombs Blackjack had put on the Ark into the Decepticon base in an attempt to kill both he and Megatron. Optimus Prime was devastated by the loss of Ratchet. {{storylink|Yesterday's Heroes!}} He assigned the detective [[Nightbeat (G1)|Nightbeat]] to investigate Ratchet's death, who hypothesized that Ratchet could possibly still be alive. There was an initial blast which could have knocked Ratchet into the portal and into Unspace, a netherworld between the warp portal's starting and ending points. A probe was sent to retrieve him, and it succeeded -- but it also brought back Megatron, who was fused with Ratchet as a single, monstrous being. {{storylink|Eye of the Storm}} The Ratchet/Megatron creature rampaged through the Ark, wounding several Autobots, but Optimus Prime would not let them harm it. This put Optimus Prime in an awkward position -- was the life of Ratchet worth the possible loss of his other troops? The creature fought his way into the engine rooms and began tearing stuff apart, and Prime's choice was made for him. The creature must be stopped. Prime fought Ratchet/Megatron to a standstill, and, alarmingly, the part that was Ratchet took control, and pulled Prime's gun to his own forehead, pleading for the Autobot Commander to put him out of his misery. In an unpopular decision, Optimus Prime ordered [[Fixit]] to separate Megatron and Ratchet, even if it meant saving Megatron. Finding two armies of giant transformable robots, they repurposed these aliens for their own use, rebuilding them so they could reconfigure into various Cobra-designed vehicles. Ratchet was reprogrammed and rebuilt into a Cobra HISS tank. [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] was able to break free from his reprogramming and awaken the other Transformers and, with the help of the human anti-terrorist task-force [[G.I.Joe]], defeated Megatron and Cobra. An alliance between the Autobots and the United States government was formed.

A malfunction in [[Teletran 3]] sent dozens of Transformers into various points in history, an act which, if un-reversed, will result in a perpetual holocaust to be unleashed across [[Earth]]. To retrieve one Transformer and bring him home, a team of Cobra and G.I. Joe agents were sent 15 years into an apocalyptic future where [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and his Decepticons rule. The remaining cyborged humans had formed a resistance which had only one lone Autobot warrior who stood between them and utter annihilation. The last Autobot alive, Ratchet had grown bitter and battle-hardened after years of guerrilla warfare, and demanded the team sent to bring him back to the present day help him complete one more mission. "The Takara and Hasbro versions are considerably different, even through they only have a single difference. The Takara version uses purple plastic in the place of Hasbro's green. While this makes the Takara version somewhat more like the show portrayal, the color layouts are still off." Blackarachnia was born from one of the [[Maximal]] fallen [[Stasis pod]]s. [[Tarantulus]], watching a black widow fight and devour another spider, was inspired. [[Megatron (BW)]], observing the slim and attractive Blackarachnia transform and strike a few poses, suggested that he had "ulterior motives behind her beast form selection." But, she was a Predacon, and that was what was important.

Blackarachnia made herself reknowned among the ranks of both the Maximals and Predacons as a severe headache to Megatron. When Tarantulus found out about the [[Vok]], he tried to craft a stasis pod escape ship for himself, and she was there to forge a partnership {{storylink|Spider's Game}}. When [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]] and Blackarachnia journeyed to the island, she was there to shove him out of the way and take control of the island herself, only defeated by [[Tigatron]] {{storylink|The Trigger, Part 1}}. When [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] took control of [[Waspinator]]'s body, she was right next to him when he betrayed Megatron, betraying Starscream ''back'' {{storylink|Possession}}. When she aided Tarantulas in breaking into the ''Axalon'' to acquire a stasis pod for conversion into an escape ship, she took over after a following Inferno incapacitated Tarantulas, intending to take the ship for herself. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 1}} Unfortunately for her, this deception backfired on her in the form of a forced mind link between her and Tarantulas, which remained until she forced the spider into breaking it. {{storylink|Tangled Web}} When Tarantulus forced her to investigate Megatron's [[Golden Disk]] backups, she waited until Tarantulus was occupied to download and encrypt the recoverable information. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors, Part 2}}

When the Vok were moments away from returning, Tarantulus and Blackarachnia both again teamed up in an attempt to flee the dying planet. Megatron, already aware of the next move, used their deceptive tendancies against them, and acted unaware of their treachary. As they built their escape ship, he installed his own variant on the design, making it unescapable once sealed and in space. Though it did not destroy either of them, the result was even better; [[Optimus Primal]]. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 2}} Blackarachnia's wits saved her, as she convinced Megatron that he would need soldiers, which gave him reason to spare her life. {{storylink|Aftermath}}

When an energon blast sent her and Silverbolt into the middle of the dense jungles, they were forced to work together. Blackarachnia, though attracted to him, was endlessly frustrated by his seemingly idiotic chivalry and need to treat her special. Megatron, listening in to their commlink chatter, was disgusted by the obvious romance going on. Blackarachnia, though she held it under a firm charade of bitter irritation, rather liked the treatment and affection. {{storylink|Bad Spark}}

Megatron sent Waspinator to the location of the Ark. Blackarachnia, realizing what it meant, abandoned her post and went instead. Silverbolt followed her, and stubbornly refused to leave her alone. Exhausted and in a hurry, she conceded and told him to dig. The two broke through the mountainside, just as Megatron - having broke free from [[Ravage]], arrived. Megatron knew Blackarachnia had the codes to the Golden Disk that would allow them to get by the Ark's security systems, and he threatened to vape Silverbolt. Bitterly, she agreed to his demands.

Blackarachnia used the Ark's security system to cover Megatron's back, not sure of what he was planning. Once he fired upon [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], history began to change, wiping out all Maximals...which included herself. Not willing to die for Megatron, she activated [[Teletraan-1]]'s security nets to force Megatron off the ship. With Silverbolt's help, they got the dying Autobot leader under life support and begun the repairs. The Maximals, recognizing what she had done, reluctantly allowed her to join their ranks. {{storylink|Optimal Situation}}

Later, Blackarachnia took the [[Transmetal driver]] and attempted to use it on herself. Silverbolt, not realizing what she was planning, bailed her out of the contraption. Like every good girlfriend, she began to chew him out, but was cut off as an energy surge made her lose control of her circuts. A security system Tarantulus installed had been triggered by her tampering with her core, and the only way to fix it was to cut the Predacon [[shell program]] loose. Reluctantly, she agreed. An attack on the Maximal base disrupted the attempt, and she was deactivated.

Distraught, Silverbolt took off to avenge her death. He easily subdued Tarantulus, and was moments away from executing him when [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] attacked him. Blackarachnia, with her new and improved Transmetal 2 body, easily fought him off and rescued Silverbolt. {{storylink|Crossing the Rubicon}}

In Beast Machines, Blackarachnia was distraught and confused - she was locked out of her robot mode, back in her original body, all of her allies were gone, Silverbolt had vanished, and she was being attacked by what looked like Cybertronian guards.

She had a relatively easy time adapting to her new technorganic form, but she was still frustrated by the loss of Silverbolt. When [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]] saved her life, having strange recollections of doing so before, her mind was set - he was Silverbolt, mutated and made evil by Megatron.

Using some of the organic fluid from the Cybertronian core, she trapped Thrust in some of her webs and forced his inner personality out, begging for Silverbolt to answer. The reply was not quite what she was looking for.

When [[Jetstorm]] attacked, he also was caught up in some of her organic goo, and his true personality came out, sweeping Blackarachnia in his arms. Silverbolt returned, but just for a moment. The goo vanished, and their Vehicon minds returned.

Later, Blackarachina managed to force Jetstorm into a large pool of the organic goo, and his body began to change. Scanning a nearby vulture skeleton, he awoke in a new body.

Blackarachnia was startled by the change in him. Instead of the lovable chivalrous knight in shining armor, he was a brittle, haunted bot, tormented by the images of the evil deeds he did, and did by choice. Though he gave up on himself, she never did, urging Silverbolt to forgive his past.

Later, Hasbro's official website checklist featured listings for two "Halloween Horrorcon Value Packs" that were to be Wal*Mart [[exclusive]]s... which also likely explains why they were cancelled. (Wal*Mart had taken a good half-dozen exclusives and released them more-or-less simultaneously, leading to a huge glut. A lot of other ''Transformers'' exclusives were cancelled during the ''Universe'' era.) One of the sets was "[[Leatherhide]] Vs. Blackarachnia"... and thus, the mystery spider was confirmed, as the other test-shots in that group lined up with the name listings given in the sets.
