Blackarachnia enlists Prometheus Black, a.k.a. Meltdown, to aid her with a dangerous experiment, while Optimus and Dinobot Grimlock are forced to team up to stop them.

Summary
Sari is growing ever more frustrated by Porter C. Powell's callous actions towards both herself and her father, and she wants payback. She and Bumblebee visit the maximum-security prison that is the current abode of Prometheus Black, a.k.a. Meltdown, and speak to him in the undissolvable crystalline cube that is his cell. Black sarcastically welcomes them, noting that he has ever so few visitors, and Sari snarks in return that he'd probably have more friends if he wasn't always trying to mutate other people into transformational experiments. Sari knows that Black and Powell had once been business partners, and she asks the acidic villain for any information that would help her expose Powell as a criminal. Black asks why he should help her at all, and Sari reminds him that his own misfortunes began with the breakdown of his business partnership with Powell. Meltdown replies—with apparently genuine regret—that Powell was far too canny a businessman ever to get his fingerprints on anything truly illegal. He presents a different plan: If Sari and Bumblebee would be so kind as to break him out of prison, he would happily kill Powell himself. A bit taken aback, Sari insists she isn't willing to go that far, and she and Bumblebee depart. Later that night, however, a massive explosion signifies a break-in at the prison. At first, Meltdown confidently welcomes his visitors, assuming Sari has had a change of heart, but that confidence turns to fear when he sees he is actually being visited by the Dinobots. Grimlock cryptically announces that "she" wants to see Meltdown. Though still afraid of his former flunkies, Meltdown tries to warn them away, pointing out that a prison cell constructed to hold him is indestructible—nothing can get out or in. But the Dinobots don't need to break the box when they can simply take it.

Meltdown soon finds himself transported to Dinobot Island, where the Dinobots are behaving very strangely indeed, chanting and bowing towards a high hill. The object of their interest soon is revealed to be Blackarachnia, who washed up on the island after the recent defeat of Megatron and has since used her beauty and wily ways to captivate the simple-minded Dinobots. As she explored the island, she found Meltdown's subterranean lab complex, including his computer files on genetic manipulation. She insists that Black help her purge the organic material from her body, and since she has just drained Grimlock, becoming powerful enough to crack open his supposedly indestructible prison cell with the bonus of the Dinobots being quite willing to follow any command, Black has no choice but to agree.

Back on the mainland, Captain Fanzone and the Detroit P.D. are investigating the prison break. Porter C. Powell arrives, very agitated by the escape of his evil former associate. He produces security camera footage of Sari's visit, accusing the girl of trying to have him killed. Fanzone asks just how he got his hands on that footage, but Powell becomes more evasive. When the Autobots magnify the camera footage, they can see the Dinobots reflected on the surface of Meltdown's cube. While they ponder what to do about this, Bumblebee's constant chattering begins to wear on Prowl, who boldly insists that it is impossible for Bumblebee to remain silent for more than a few cycles. Bumblebee is angered by these doubts against him and tries to show how quiet he can be...which isn't at all, since he pipes in with a self-defense or denial every few moments. This bickering continues as he, Prowl, and Optimus Prime head to Dinobot Island.

Once they arrive, the Autobots split up to search for evidence. Prowl finds more of Meltdown's burnt footprints, as well as yet more proof that Bumblebee really can't pipe down, since he keeps calling Prowl's name. But when Prowl investigates, he sees Bumblebee had good reason to yell: He's caught in a giant web and deactivated. Shortly thereafter, Blackarachnia attacks Prowl and deactivates him too. Rushing to help, Optimus attempts to confront Blackarachnia, but she is able to flatter and cajole Grimlock into defending her (and soundly walloping Optimus). There's no time for a real fight, though, as Blackarachnia has loaded up both Prowl and Bumblebee with a potentially lethal dose of her cybervenom. They will die unless she administers the antidote within 2 megacycles, and she'll only do that if Optimus helps Grimlock locate Meltdown's genetic modifier to make the experiment work.

Returning to the mainland, Optimus and Grimlock attempt to work together, but it's difficult because Grimlock simply will not hear that Blackarachnia might be using him or would in any way be deceiving him. For his part, Grimlock doesn't want to work with "puny" Optimus, but has no choice, as only Optimus knows where Meltdown's original workshop had been. They find the workshop, untouched and in the same state of disrepair as when Black had his drastic accident. As they search for the genetic modifier, they are discovered by Porter C. Powell, who owns the facilities Black had been using before his accident. He orders them to leave and won't assist them in finding the device they need, but he changes his tune after Optimus has Grimlock snatch up the little man and imprison him inside his mouth for a while. The unlikely Autobot duo retrieves the genetic modifier and heads back to the island.

Once he has the necessary tools and Blackarachnia strapped down to his lab table (for her own safety, of course, he swears), Meltdown decides to change his lab procedure ever so slightly. Reminding his captor-turned-prisoner of his longstanding hatred of robots, he will still be genetically separating Blackarachnia's organic and mechanical elements...but now the mechanical will be discarded and only the organics left behind, and his goal of having created a purely organic transforming being will have been realized. Optimus and Grimlock attempt to stop Meltdown, but he summons reinforcements: his earlier mutant creations, who appear quite a bit stronger now and manage to force the robots outside the lab and battle them fairly evenly. Things aren't helped when Grimlock, in his shortsighted fury, ignores Optimus's warnings and uses his flaming sword so carelessly that it practically burns down the entire island. The tide finally turns with the arrival of the other two Dinobots. Swoop lifts one of the mutants completely clear of the battlefield, keeping it from attacking further, while Snarl pounds the other senseless with his giant, flaming cudgel.

Optimus extinguishes the flames, then races back into the lab. He manages to detach the genetic modifier from the lab equipment, stopping the procedure before Blackarachnia can be divided up. An enraged Meltdown attacks Optimus and begins to melt his chest armor, but during the course of the action, Meltdown's body surface comes into contact with the genetic modifier. It unleashes a massive dose of energy into him, apparently causing his body to lose cohesion and degenerate into a pure liquid state, oozing out of his containment suit and leaking through cracks in the floor. Optimus frees Blackarachnia from her bonds on the table, and she senses an easy way to escape: Feigning weakness, she asks Optimus to come closer and hold her tight...as Grimlock is watching. His predictable jealousy makes him attack Optimus once again, and the sneaky spider manages to escape. When he finally sees she is gone, Grimlock begs her to return and professes his love for her, but it is too late.

A despairing Optimus returns to the web-covered bodies of Prowl and Bumblebee in the forest, apologizing to them that he was unable to rescue them in time. Then he notices the antidote has been placed right next to them. He quickly administers it just in the nick of time. Bumblebee notes with pride that he did indeed manage to remain totally silent for the whole 2 megacycles. When Prowl protests that it doesn't really count because he was unconscious and paralyzed, they have a rousing argument about the nature of the rules of their bet. An enraged Powell demands that Fanzone arrest Optimus Prime for assault and theft, but Fanzone says he's more inclined to arrest Powell for being a public nuisance and walks off. Optimus Prime begins to wonder if maybe, underneath it all, there is some good left in Blackarachnia, since (apparently) she did leave the antidote for him.

Later, in the island's abandoned underground lab, puddles of nasty-looking acidic goo begin to coalesce together around an empty containment suit. As the merging lump grows bigger, a familiar face appears on its surface. You can't keep a bad guy down....
Bumblebee: What, you're making new rules now? I don't think so! Pay up with that sweet axle grease.<br>
Other notes
Animation errors
* When the Dinobots are arguing amongst themselves, Snarl's face briefly loses its red, and Swoop is shown in his beast mode.

Transformers references
* Blackarachnia references the defeat of Megatron in "Megatron Rising - Part 2".

Real-world references
* The title is a reference to the day after Thanksgiving, a traditionally busy shopping day in the U.S., on which Hasbro often releases exclusives.
*Grimlock's groaning cry of "Fire Bad" is likely a reference to the Tarzan, Tonto, and Frankenstein's Monster sketches from Saturday Night Live.

Miscellaneous trivia
*Bulkhead and Ratchet appear, but do not speak.
*This episode showcases a detailed transformation for Optimus Prime, Prowl and Bumblebee.
*Optimus states that Prowl knows Dinobot Island like the back of his hand and tells Prowl and Bumblebee to come with him, yet it is Bulkhead who has been on the island many times with Prowl. Maybe Optimus wants to see who wins the bet?
*It appears to be common knowledge that Porter C. Powell was Prometheus Black's business partner, yet in "Blast from the Past", he is seen among the group that witnesses the showing of the Dinobots, implying that he is working for Sumdac Systems at this point. Why would Isaac Sumdac hire the former partner of his bitterest corporate rival?
*Grimlock states that Autobots are bad. Perhaps Grimlock is forgetting that he's an Autobot?
*According to Grimlock, Dinobots rule. We already knew that.
*This is the second Transformers episode where a voice actor spends most of it arguing with himself.
*Colossus Rhodes is decidely absent from this episode, despite being arrested with Meltdown. Maybe he got a cushy job in the prison library?
*This is the second episode to include Meltdown's bat/human and shark/human hybrid experiments... and have they gotten bigger?
*So, why was Powell watching Meltdown?
*Swoop and Snarl STILL remain mute throughout the Episode

Optimus Prime

:Optimus Prime is the Autobot leader from the Robots in Disguise continuity family.

Optimus Prime is a stern and serious commander, devoted to protecting freedom and innocent life. He has seen the galactic path of conquest and destruction already burned by Megatron and swears it will not include Earth. Optimus Prime often finds himself in the role of "straight man" to the more comic stylings of the other Autobots and Predacons, and tends to treat their humorous exaggerations or personality quirks as statements of straightforward fact. His subordinates view him as a great leader, if stubborn and much too prone to long speeches. Optimus Prime's greatest weakness is his sense of nobility. If an adversary claims to have had a change of heart and discovered inner goodness, Prime will fall for it every single time.

:Japanese name: Fire Convoy

Animated continuity
Robots in Disguise
:Voice actor: Neil Kaplan (English), Satoshi Hashimoto (Japanese), Guilherme Briggs (Portuguese)

Optimus Prime was created, along with Ultra Magnus, by Alpha Trion. The two of them were raised together, and thus, saw each other as brothers. However, this relationship was torn apart after the Cybertron Civil Wars, whereupon the Matrix chose Optimus Prime to command the Autobots in stopping the Predacon leader Megatron from ravaging the universe in his quest for energy. Ultra Magnus left Cybertron that same day, bitter and spiteful of his brother.

Prime soon struck up command on Earth, where he took the form of a fire truck. Operating out of a secret base in Metro City, he and his fellow Autobots were more than ready to face Megatron and his Predacons. The conflict began when Megatron appeared in New York, attempting to kidnap the famous scientist Doctor Onishi. Optimus struck up a friendship with Onishi's son, Koji, and despite not being able to save the boy's father, vowed that he would help rescue him.

In the events that followed, Prime was forced to deal with the Predacons' many energy-grabbing schemes, either personally, or indirectly by way of helping T-AI coordinate the movement of his troops by way of the Global Space Bridge.

However, Prime soon found another threat, in the form of the Decepticons - namely, one named Scourge. Scourge was a corrupted Autobot protoform, who, in addition to being infused with Megatron's evil, scanned Optimus Prime and a tanker truck at the same time, resulting in his looking like a twisted clone of the Autobot leader. Prime hoped that Scourge and his fellow Decepticons would one day be restored to their true Autobot selves, but after the Decepticons themselves tried to use this to trick him, he decided he should not allow this to cloud his judgement.

Matters escalated when Ultra Magnus appeared on Earth, making his desire to take the Matrix from Optimus Prime known to his "brother." Optimus refused to fight Magnus, and was thus, mercilessly fired upon, until Side Burn, Prowl, and X-Brawn arrived to carry him away. Prime took refuge on a deserted island, but the Decepticons, Megatron, and Magnus both tracked him there. In the midst of the battle, Magnus forcibly activated their ability to combine into Omega Prime, intending to use it to drain Prime of his energy so he could take the Matrix, but Optimus managed to take control and use their combination to stop the Decepticons. This fusion apparently resulted in both Autobots sharing the Matrix's power, which led to Magnus's attitude softening towards his brother.

Eventually, it was revealed that Megatron's true purpose on Earth was to take control of the massive Autobot, Fortress Maximus. These events led to Megatron becoming the more powerful Galvatron, who eventually devastated the Autobot forces. In his final battle with the evil leader, Prime and Magnus combined into Omega Prime to face Galvatron at the Earth's core. They were seemingly no match for him, until Fortress Maximus sent them his power, which energized the Matrix, forming the giant weapon, the Matrix Blade. Galvatron was defeated, and with that, the Autobots' mission on Earth was finished, and Prime resolved to return to Cybertron - but not before "one last look around" with Koji and the rest of his team.

Dreamwave comic
With the other Autobots all engaged in other fights around the world, Optimus Prime alone was available to answer TAI's battle protocol at an experimental nuclear generator in Arizona. His opening plan was to lure the Predacons and Decepticons away from the humans to battle them at a safe distance, but his wayward brother Ultra Magnus intervened, confronting the villains head on in the middle of the generator plant. As Prime chastised Magnus for his rash action, Scourge overheard and seized on the idea to threaten the humans if the Autobots didn't stand down. Despite his anger at Optimus, Ultra Magnus remembered his Autobot training and reluctantly laid down his weapon. At the proper moment, though, the brothers managed to attack a distracted Scourge and save the humans. The Predacons and Decepticons escaped with the generator, but the humans were safe.
Fun Publications Cybertron comics
During the final battle with the Minions of Unicron in the Pit, Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus (as Omega Prime) were fighting alongside the Children of Primus when the corrupt pocket universe began to collapse around them. Omega Prime and the others fled through a dimensional portal, but the powerlinxed brothers were diverted by the former Mini-Con Over-Run into another reality, just in time to stop Nemesis Prime from unleashing the Dead Matrix inside the Spark Chamber of Primus. The evil clone was vanquished, and the brothers hooked up with Sentinel Maximus and his comrades as they attempted to fortify Cybertron against the Unicron Singularity.

Working relatively behind the scenes while that reality's Optimus Prime and his crew searched for the Cyber Planet Keys, Optimus Prime and his brother found themselves moderating an internal dispute among the Mini-Con colonies in Cybertron's debris field, and were engaged with a Cybertronian-sized version of Unicron himself when Primus first transformed due to an infusion of Cyber Key Power. Some months later, after the final battle with the Cyber Key empowered Galvatron, Optimus Prime first met his local counterpart, and they exchanged information on their endeavors over the last few months. With the newly reformed Unicron on the loose after their last encounter, Optimus chose to join Ultra Magnus and Sentinel Maximus in hunting him down. The final fate of their mission, and whether the brothers ever returned to their home reality, remains to be seen.
*Optimus Prime (Super, 2000, 2001)
**Japanese ID number: C-001
**Accessories: Pistol, 4 missiles

: Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime transforms into a Japanese Hino Brandlier fire truck. Harkening back to Generation 1 toys, he features chromed wheels with rubber tires. The forward section of his truck detaches to become his standard robot mode. His 'trailer' can be reconfigured into a sort of battle station. The station can then be disassembled and attached around the robot to form his Battle Mode. His standard robot can combine with Ultra Magnus to form Omega Prime.

: The original Takara Car Robots release differs from the Hasbro version in that it has a darker, metallic-flake plastic, and has no Autobot symbols tampo-printed on the shoulder pads. Obviously, the voice clips used for the Japanese toy are also different, although the English clips are essentially translations of the Japanese ones (with the Hasbro toy proclaiming that Optimus Prime's transformation into super mode uses the code-phrase "maximize"). Additionally, the Hasbro version has the unfortunately tendency for its rubber tires to split down its molding connection. Furthermore, Fire Convoy's missles are of a different mold on the Japanese toy. The toy’s ladder features a trigger that flips all four of his missile launchers forward into firing position when pressed. On Fire Covonoy, pressing this trigger causes all four missiles to immediately launch (if by "launch" you mean "be-flung-up-into-the-air-and-fall-to-the-ground-instantly") when they flip forward, whereas the Hasbro toy removes the auto-fire feature, allowing them to be launched one-at-a-time via individual triggers.

: Released in a Toys "R" Us Japanese-exclusive "God Fire Convoy" gift set with Clear God Magnus, Clear Super Fire Convoy is obviously constructed primarily of transluscent plastic.
: Black Super Fire Convoy was a Lucky Draw prize version of Super Fire Convoy. Aside from being... well, black, the chromed chest plate is now gold with red "windows", and the sirens on his back are now clear.
He came packed in robot mode in an upright display package, which featured a sticker on the front with a hilariously mistransformed Omega Prime, advertising the toy's combining ability with the simultaneously-released, slightly-redecoed Sam's Club exclusive Universe release of Robots In Disguise Ultra Magnus.

: One of a half-dozen Wal-Mart exclusive Universe toys to hit in the span of a few short months in 2003, this version of Prime is a yellow redeco of the Robots in Disguise Spy Changer Prime (with an oddly-unpainted face), based on the Sam's Club version of the larger toy. In vehicle mode the ladder rotates at its base and the nozzles flip out of the end of the ladder, but the ladder cannot extend. As he is much simplified compared to the larger toy, the (largely hollow) front of the vehicle cannot seperate and form the standard robot more, nor can the rear of the vehicle form the battlestation. Instead, the entire fire truck transforms into simplified version of the super robot Battle Mode.

Trivia
* For this incarnation of Optimus, voice actor Neil Kaplan specifically impersonated the voice of the original Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen. Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime is one of the few Optimuses whose English voice actor isn't Cullen or Gary Chalk. At conventions, Kaplan refers to himself as "the George Lazenby of Optimus Primes".

* Cybertron "Multi-Pack" Optimus Prime's on-package bio seems to indicate he's Unicron Trilogy Optimus Prime. However, his (and Magnus') deco was later used in the Fun Publications Cybertron fan club magazine comic as Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime having traveled to the Unicron Trilogy universe.

* Persistent net rumors abound about early or supplemental Japanese material establishing Optimus and his Autobots being part of a "Dimensional Patrol" that follows the Predacons either back in time or from another universe. This is not supported in-show and no solid evidence supporting it has ever surfaced elsewhere.... except in the 3H supplemental materials, which established the "Dimensional Patrol" as a post-cartoon organization.

* Fans in Japan joke that Optimus Prime is an Autobot Emperor of Destruction rather than an Autobot Supreme Commander, due to his actions in the Car Robot anime.

* Optimus Prime's Super Mode chest resembles the chest of EnRyu from King of Braves GaoGaiGar, another Takara series. EnRyu also transforms into a fire truck.

The Cybertron cartoon series ran in the United States in the years 2005-2006. US continuity has connected this series to the Armada-Energon continuity. The series premiered in the United States in July 2005.

The story centers on a giant black hole that threatens to devour Cybertron and other worlds. Only the power of the Omega Lock can stop it; Optimus Prime and a small team of Autobots travel to various worlds in search of the lock and the four Cyber Planet Keys needed to activate it. Megatron, even more obsessed with power and godhood, attempts to seize the lock and the keys to boost his own personal power.

The series' Japanese counterpart Galaxy Force was presented as a continuity reboot... but was then retconned into a continuation of Super Link by later materials.
Criticism
Like Energon before it, Cybertron was animated using shaded CGI for the Transformers characters, and cel animation for most everything else. Though more advanced than that of Energon, the CGI still suffers from most of the problems of its predecessor: Few facial expressions beyond "mouth open" and "mouth closed", restricted range of motion, a tendency for the Transformers to stand around like statues, et cetera. The shading techniques used on the Transformer characters also means they look very strange alongside their traditionally-animated human cohorts.

There is a sense that Cybertron actively attempts to avoid the main problem that plagued Energonm-that is to say, running out of plot. Consequently, while the basic plot of Cybertron is far more focused and coherent than that of Energon, its first half is quite ponderous and drawn out, especially in the case of the Velocitron story arc, in which thirteen solid episodes are taken up by race after generic race, doing very little to advance the plot. Conversely, then, in the final quarter of the series, the stories of Gigantion and Planet X seem very truncated, as if the drawn-out first half left no room to see these plots through to their fullest extent.

In addition, Cybertron delights in the use of stock transformation sequences, using them to pad out episodes as if they were packing peanuts.

Praise
On the plus side, the three kids who serve as central human characters generally aren't considered quite as annoying as many of their predecessors. (We're looking at you, Kicker.)

The dub is much more polished than that of Energon or Armada, giving characters distinct voices and accents (which totally never happened before, really), and throwing a lot of pop-culture and Transformers references into the mix. It also makes the excessive stock footage m- which seems to make up 50% of some episodes m- mildly entertaining to listen to by having the characters talk during them. As time went on, the stock-footage banter got a little self-referential and fourth-wall-pokey, showing that the writers were well aware of what they were working with.

Since the scripts had comprehensible context and some actual work put into them, the voice actors were likewise able to turn in stronger performances.

Continuity
As noted above, the Japanese version (Galaxy Force) originally treated the story as a stand-alone, unconnected to any previous story. The American version draws connections to the Armada and Energon cartoons, but various incongruities still exist:

* Nobody really seems to remember the events of Energon. The Autobots act as though they've never been to Earth before and have no familiarity with its culture, despite having spent ten years there in places like Ocean City.
* The Autobots are utterly dependent on the three human kids to help them blend into human society, when they previously had numerous human allies including Dr. Jones and his family, Rad, Alexis & Carlos, and the innumerable human inhabitants of Ocean City and the other Cybertron settlements on Earth.
* The Cybertron cities themselves are never seen or mentioned.
* Jetfire and Landmine both have distinctively different voices than in the previous cartoons. Red Alert has essentially the same voice, but with a newly added accent.
* Formerly prominent characters like Rodimus, Ironhide, the Omnicons, and Kicker have vanished without a word; new characters Overhaul and Scattorshot appear out of nowhere; and Red Alert returns after being absent for all of Energon.
* Returning characters are all in brand-new bodies with no explanation.
* When he first combines with Leobreaker, Optimus Prime declares that he's never heard of two Autobots combining into one before. This is a rather odd statement, considering that such combinations were commonplace during Energon, and Optimus himself had been combining with other Autobots since Armada
*If the Autobots have been on Earth before, and talked to several humans throughout Energon and Armada. Why do they still hide from them in their Vehicle mode?

Within the show, most of these problems were never directly addressed; the cartoon simply went about telling its story without much regard to previous events. (Indeed, vanishing characters and new bodies had previously occurred in the changeover between Armada and Energon with equally little attention, though the stated ten-year fictional gap between those shows makes it somewhat less intrusive.)

However, external material has addressed some of the problems. The Cybertron comic storyline Balancing Act, for example, Vector Prime claims that the Autobots are suffering memory problems, caused by temporal disturbances from the Unicron Singularity. Jetfire's new accent was explained on the Hasbro web site as a result of time spent on the planet Nebulon.

Energon comic
Some fans believe that the cartoon follows the unfinished Energon comic book series from Dreamwave. Unsubstantiated rumors to this effect have swirled since the cartoon's debut, though the only "evidence" comes from media outside the cartoon:

* The Cybertron comic storyline "Balancing Act", written by Hasbro copywriter Forest Lee, is set the same universe as the Cybertron cartoon series. But the story references events from the Energon comic, such as the Mini-Con Over-Run hooking himself into the Planetary Database -- a plot point begun by the Energon comic, which would have been carried through if the book hadn't been canceled.

* The bio of Cybertron toy Dark Scorponok references his death at the hands of Megatron, as happened in the Energon comic but not the cartoon. However, this was overwritten when "Balancing Act" depicted Dark Scorponok as being pulled into the cartoon timeline from another universe.

The idea doesn't solve any problems; most of the contradictions between the Energon and Cybertron cartoons also exist between the Energon comic and the Cybertron cartoon. The cartoon contains no references to any events of the Energon comic.

The entire notion of a network television cartoon following up on a comparatively obscure, unfinished comic book seems counter-intuitive; furthermore, Hasbro material has presented many explanations for contradictions between the two cartoons. Why bother explaining why Cybertron Jetfire sounds different if he's not the same guy seen in Energon? Why have Vector Prime explain the differences between the two cartoons if they're not in the same continuity?

This is a rather odd statement, considering that such combinations were commonplace during Energon, and Optimus himself had been combining with other Autobots since Armada.
*If the Autobots have been on Earth before, and talked to several humans throughout the past 2 Series.

This is a rather odd statement, considering that such combinations were commonplace during Energon, and Optimus himself had been combining with other Autobots since Armada.
*If the Autobots have been on Earth before, Why are they Hiding from the Humans?

Why bother explaining why Cybertron Jetfire sounds different if he's not the same guy seen in Energon? Investigating a mysterious race car, Bumblebee gets involved with an illegal underground street racing circuit, which also captures the attention of the Decepticons.

Summary
On the highways of Detroit, the Autobots are driving under the moonlight, searching for an AllSpark fragment. As Bumblebee complains about the boring nature of their task, several cars speed past them. Bulkhead recognizes them as racers for Street Demon, a show he and Sari watch. Calling them amateurs, Bumblebee decides to show off and speeds ahead. As he boasts, a blue racer comes in and rams two drivers off the road. Bumblebee wants to go after him, while Prime says that the drivers need help. Still, Bumblebee pursues, discovering that the car is quite fast. As the Autobots render assistance, Captain Fanzone arrives and arrests the two drivers. Bulkhead is shocked to learn that the Street Demons are on an illegal racing circuit, while Bumblebee rolls up, transforms, and falls down, breathing heavily...somehow.

Back at the plant, Bumblebee thinks that he can beat the blue racer with his turbo boosters. Prime and Ratchet refuse, and Bumblebee shouts that nothing on Earth is faster than him. This train of thought leads Bumblebee to the conclusion that the blue racer is a Decepticon. Prowl points out that the racer was uninterested in the Autobots, and Prime orders Bumblebee not to use the boosters. Meanwhile, Bulkhead comes down on Sari over Street Demon, but Sari says that they're not helping the illegal show in any way, since she's pirating the signal. As Bulkhead laments about how the Autobots need to set a good example, Bumblebee walks in and smooths things over, saying that he'll straighten out Sari. Once Bulkhead is out of audio sensor range, Bumblebee has Sari show him the races. He asks her to track down where the broadcast came from, and with the help of the key, he finds out where they are.

At an irrigation channel, Bumblebee, having taken his turbo boosters, joins in a training race, finally getting the hang of his boosters. Seeing what is going on, Master Disaster, the host of Street Demon, uses some sort of remote control to send out the blue racer to attack Bumblebee. Finally getting tired of being attacked, Bumblebee transforms into robot mode, causing Master Disaster to call off the attack. Instead, Disaster invites the Autobot to participate in the next race. Bumblebee agrees, on the condition that blue racer is present. As Bumblebee rolls out, Disaster notes that with an Autobot racing, their ratings will triple...and get even higher if said Autobot were to suffer an "accident".

At the plant, Bulkhead brings Sari a cup of hot chocolate, but Bumblebee calls on her cell phone, revealing his misadventure and allowing Bulkhead to learn what is going on. Before he can further <strike>dig his own grave</strike> elaborate, Bumblebee stops short when he sees a planem-Blitzwing. Following the Decepticon, Bumblebee overhears Blitzwing communicate with Megatron about an AllSpark fragment he was tracking. Convinced it involves the blue racer, Bumblebee heads back to the plant. He tells Sari what is going on, only for Bulkhead to come down on Bumblebee for what he's doing. Bumblebee tells him about Blitzwing, the AllSpark fragment, and his suspicions about the blue racer being a Decepticon, insisting that he can only discover the truth if he races. Bulkhead agrees to allow it on the condition that he is brought along as well, but Bumblebee fibs. However, when Sari catches him going out, she forces him to take her...as Bulkhead listens in.

In an interrogation room, Fanzone questions one of the drivers. Using the threat of imprisonment, Fanzone learns that the next race will be at Dix and Vernor, and he intends to get there before the races begins...at which point he walks right into a door.

At the race site, Master Disaster is making the final preparations, when Sari's key glows in the direction of Disaster's truck. Sneaking aboard, she finds the remote, then flees while Disaster announces the two-minute mark. As he reaches for the remote, he discovers what Sari did, forcing Bumblebee and Sari to escape. Thinking the race has started, the other drivers follow. As Bulkhead prepares to roll out and follow them, Blitzwing freezes the Autobot, then flies after the other two. Sari opens the remote and finds the AllSpark fragment, while Bumblebee detects Blitzwing. Seeing the flier, he dives through an arch, which Blitzwing freezes, cutting off the rest of the racers. Failing in his attempts to destroy Bumblebee from above, Blitzwing goes to tank mode, but is buried under rubble when he destroys a bridge support.

Meanwhile, Bumblebee sees Fanzone's car and tries to reach him. Fanzone is forced to jump into Bumblebee as Blitzwing destroys his car. As Blitzwing continues his strafing, Sari uses the remote to control Blitzwing, but it falls from her hands and out of the car. As they near another bridge, the blue racer crashes through the bridge's retaining wall and plays a game of Midair Chicken with Blitzwing. At first, Blitzwing is prepared to fight and die, but he turns away, crashing first into a building and then into Master Disaster's truck. Bumblebee deposits the two humans on the road, then goes to finish off Blitzwing, despite being vastly outsized and outgunned. Fortunately, the fight has brought them back to where the remote was. However, Blitzwing destroys a bridge above Bumblebee, also freeing Bulkhead. As Blitzwing prepares to deliver the killing blow, Sari uses the remote to control Blitzwing (as well as Bumblebee, who crashes into Bulkhead). Finally, Sari sends Blitzwing into high altitude. As Master Disaster tries to sneak away, Fanzone places him under arrest.

Back at the plant, Prime decides to store the remote in a safe place, while Bumblebee decides to set a better example for Sarim-starting by ending her pirated satellite connection. As Sari jokingly warns Bumblebee not to set too good of an example (lest she not recognize him), Bumblebee notices the blue racer speed past the plant. Bumblebee shouts out a "thank you", but is left wondering who the blue racer really is.
Other notes
Continuity errors
* Hothead Blitzwing demonstrates the ability to function in jet mode, instead of automatically switching to tank mode as he did in "Megatron Rising - Part 2". His ice missiles are replaced with conventional explosive ones. Maybe he learned his lesson?

Real-world references
* Wondering where Bumblebee came from, Master Disaster invokes the name of Detroit auto mogul Henry Ford (and also calls Bumblebee a "clown car").

*This episode borrows several plot and thematic elements from the popular street racing film The Fast and the Furious.

*Blitzwing's "Never give up! Never surrender! NEVER MIND!" quote refers to the catchphrase from the Dreamworks film, Galaxy Quest.

*Blitzwing haphazardly fires off multiple missiles in all directions in a style reminiscent of the Valkyrie Fighters from Super Dimension Fortress Macross.

*In this episode, Blitzwing's cannons make the familiar "high tension cable twang" normally associated with laser cannons in the Star Wars films.

*The first car that passes Bumblebee at the beginning of the episode resembles the 1999 Nissan Skyline From 2003's 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Miscellaneous trivia
* Fanzone's car explodes. Again. At least we know where he gets the replacements.
* The mysterious blue race car under Master Disaster's control matches the vehicle mode of Animated Blurr, as shown in an "upcoming products" presentation at 2008. Presumably it is Blurr...but as of this episode, its exact nature is unknown. It could be merely an AllSpark-enhanced unliving machine (like those in "The Elite Guard"), from which Blurr will someday take his Earth-mode (as Bumblebee did with Fanzone's car). (If it is Blurr, then he either is or will be a member of the Elite Guard, according to the presentation mentioned above.)
*Since coming to live with the Autobots, Sari has not only watched illegal shows, but also stolen satellite signals. Professor Sumdac is probably going to have words with the Autobots if they ever find him.
* The Street Demon symbol has a vague resemblance to the Maximal insignia used in Beast Wars.
Japanese title: "Metroplex VS Dinosaurer"

Detailed synopsis
Rodimus Prime, Grimlock, Perceptor, and the Aerialbots are reviewing the footage of Metroplex's battle with Trypticon. Grimlock declares that he wants to see the "good part", where Metroplex destroyed Trypticon, but Teletraan II states that Trypticon survived the encounter. Broadside and Seaspray travel to where Trypticon landed in the ocean, and learn that he walked underwater to avoid being caught.

Meanwhile, the Triple Changer Octane is nursing Trypticon back to health, using Energon made from the oil of Carbombya. Octane hopes that with Trypticon to back him up, he can overthrow Galvatron and become leader of the Decepticons. However, Abdul Fakkadi, the leader of the desert nation, is unhappy with Trypticon's constant consumption of oil. Fakkadi demands that the two Decepticons leave, or he will call the Autobots. Octane offers to bring Fakkadi gold in exchange for being able to stay, but Fakkadi declares that it would take all the gold of the United States to allow them to stay. The simple answer? Octane has Trypticon steal Fort Knox.

Pacified, Fakkadi agrees to allow the Decepticons to remain in Carbombya until the next crescent moon, and Trypticon is put under strict ration of one thousand barrels a day. Octane declares that Trypticon will starve, and negotiates a new plan: give Fakkadi a new palace, and he will let them stay and have more oil. To make Fakkadi "more happy", Trypticon steals the Taj Mahal.

While the Autobots investigate the disappearance of Fort Knox (cause that's something that directly involves the Autobots), Grimlock finds Energon cubes which he says "smell different". As Perceptor begins analyzing the Energon, Grimlock also smells Dinosaur transform static, and fears one of his own Dinobots may have been involved. Metroplex decides to interrogate all the Dinobots.

At Carbombya, Fakkadi is pleased, declaring that with enough monuments, they will soon have a thriving tourist attraction. However, Galvatron has been tracking down Trypticon. He declares Octane a traitor, saying he stole Trypticon from Dinobot Island. Thinking fast, Octane claims that he brought Trypticon to Carbombya to help him get better, with a more powerful form of Energon, and tosses Galvatron a cube. As Trypticon says nothing to contradict the story, Galvatron takes a swig, and finds that it is stronger.

Meanwhile, Six-Gun and Scamper are interrogating the Dinobots, as well as Sky Lynx, under the watchful eye of Metroplex. Sky Lynx angrily objects to being called a Dinobot, and refuses to participate. Perceptor runs in declaring that the Energon Grimlock found was made via a Decepticon formula, with Carbombyan oil. Perceptor believes that Trypticon is responsible for the thefts. Broadside takes the Aerialbots to investigate, and spot the two stolen buildings. However, Trypticon surfaces, carrying the Eiffel Tower. Galvatron and Octane are explaining to Fakkadi that the Decepticons will supply Carbombya with more buildings, such as the Kremlin, while they take over the oil fields. However, Trypticon spots the Aerialbots, and converts to battle mode, forcing the Aerialbots to retreat.

Having learned that Trypticon intends to take the Kremlin, the Autobots head to Moscow, but Metroplex is late. In the night fog, Trypticon arrives and steals the Kremlin, but Metroplex interrupts him. Metroplex takes back the Kremlin while Trypticon flees, and the Soviet government accuses the Autobots of the theft, as does India. Grimlock laments the Autobots' sad fate.

At Carbombya, Fakkadi is recording a message to send to the Autobots, authorizing them to invade Carbombya and attack the Decepticons. Galvatron, however, simply locks up the dictator. Rodimus, the Dinobots, the Aerialbots, Metroplex, and Broadside arrive to fight off the Decepticons, and Metroplex throws Trypticon into the ocean (again). Without Trypticon to even the odds, Galvatron orders the 'Cons to retreat. Metroplex returns the monuments, clearing the Autobots' name. Rodimus asks Fakkadi to never ally with the Decepticons again. Fakkadi promises the Autobot leader that he will not, swearing by the livestock of his various family members.

Animation and/or technical glitches
* When the Autobots are shown firing after Trypticon is hurled into the ocean, there are two Rodimus Primes, two Perceptors, and two Blurrs.

Continutity errors
* This Episode should come before Starscream's Ghost as it explains why Galvatron has it in for Octane.
Transformers references
* Trypticon had been taken to Dinobot Island in an attempt to help him recover. When the Decepticons last visited the island, they had been attacked by the natives.
Miscellaneous trivia
* It's pretty weird that Teletraan II didn't immediately inform the Autobots that a robot as dangerous as Trypticon was still alive.
* Trypticon is the most energy ineffecient robot ever. Seriously.
* Amazing that the various buildings that Trypticon stole weren't damaged while he stole them.
* Amazing that Abdul wasn't held slightly accountable for the deaths of the soldiers crushed by the falling gold in Fort Knox.
* Amazing that after being carried by hand to a separate hemisphere the gold bars are still stacked neatly in For Knox.
* Amazing that all the gold of the United States was stacked so neatly when it was last seen falling on soldiers.
* Amazing that all the gold of the Unite States was not slathered in red, human blood after crushing and smashing American soldiers.
* Okay, seriously...dinosaur transform static? WTF?
* Although this episode is set in the year 2006, the Soviet Union still exists. In the real world, the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991.
Summary
Inferno provides a recap of the recent disastrous events. The Autobots are shocked at Hot Shot's injuries, while Ironhide, seeing his worse nightmare, urges him to respond. Unfortunately, Optimus Prime is dealing with his worse nightmare a few feet away... Megatron is alive. Prime realizes that he's come for the energon to go after Unicron. Kicker and Ironhide want to kick some skid plate, but Prime calls for a retreat so Hot Shot can be treated. He warns Megatron that if he wants more energon, he'll have to go through Prime. Megatron is throughly unimpressed, saying that his sword gives him an incredible advantage. Megatron lets them go but demands that they surrender all their energon next time they meet.

Unicron is weakening, and so Alpha Q plans to steal back their energon via a new agent: the revived Starscream!

Hot Shot is lowered into an energon pool to heal his injuries. Signal Flare is nearly done duplicating Megatron's sword. Jetfire brings up the topic of Demolishor again, but Prime still takes no action. Demolishor is bored on guard duty.

Megatron has his Terrorcons release their energon onto Unicron. They give him an energon star power-up, and he sends them away for more. And once they've revived Unicron, Megatron will use him as a weapon of conquest.

Scorponok is being rather painfully repaired. Tidal Wave tells him he's lucky he got repaired at all, since he'd used the Decepticons. Scorponok wonders why Megatron didn't destroy Prime on Earth, and in a rare moment of deep thinking, Tidal Wave tells him to figure it out for himself. If he does, Tidal Wave might start to trust him. Scorponok mutters that Megatron was just afraid. Probably not what Tidal Wave was thinking.

Jetfire tells Kicker about the Omnicons' craft. Jetfire muses that they seem to know just where they belong.

A space bridge has materialized out over the ocean; Prime suspect a trap and sends Jetfire to investigate. Prime forbids Kicker to go with him, and also says that Kicker is not going on missions anymore, fearing that Megatron will want him for his special abilities. Ironhide and Prime follow Jetfire.

Jetfire arrives at the space bridge to find empty air... then something materializes and knocks him away. Another space bridge opens up near Ocean City, and Starscream attacks Prime as hordes of Terrorcons pour out of the sky. Demolishor helps defend the city, until Megatron appears in their midst.

Starscream is handily defeating Prime with his teleporting ability. Megatron lands before Demolishor, who's suitably confused. Ironhide wants to attack Megatron in revenge, but Demolishor restrains Ironhide... then knocks him aside. Demolishor pledges himself to Megatron, who immediately demands a test of loyalty by having him open the city's gates.

With Kicker's help, Prime drives Starscream off. When Demolishor hesitates to open the gates, Megatron orders Demolishor to fire on him. Demolishor can't do it; instead he turns and blasts the city gates open, and the Terrorcons pour in. Prime arrives to battle Megatron.

Hot Shot revives in time to help Inferno drive off the Terrorcons in the city, while Kicker holds them off with a copy of Megatron's sword, which he then hands off to Prime, putting the foes on equal footing.

More Autobots arrive carrying copies of the sword, and the Decepticons are surrounded. Megatron uses specially-treated energon to transport his troops away. Despite Ironhide's pleas, Demolishor goes with him, and Prime laments that they couldn't change his mind. Starscream briefly re-materializes, and chuckles.
Quotes
"Megatron..."<br>
"Well, it's just like old times, isn't it?
:—Optimus Prime and Megatron, together again.

"I know what you're after, Megatron. You want our energon!
:—Optimus Prime reads his enemies like a book. A very short, simple book.

Ohh, they expect me to stare at the clouds all day. Is that what it means to be part of the Autobot team?
:—Demolishor

"Couldn't you be a little more gentle?"<br>
"You used us, Scorponok. You should be grateful that I chose to repair you at all."<br>
"But I helped revive Megatron!"<br>
"All you wanted was Megatron's power, but you were too weak."<br>
"Wait! I want to ask you something."<br>
"What is it?"<br>
"Megatron could have destroyed Optimus Prime. Why would he pass up a perfect chance like the one he had back on the planet?"<br>
"If you can figure that out, then maybe I will begin to trust you more."<br>
"Hnn. I think he was just afraid!"<br>
:—Scorponok and Tidal Wave

"Uhhhh...moh—uhhhhh..."
:—Demolishor is speechless at Megatron's revival

"Don't do it! You're no match for him!"<br>
"Let go! Don't you understand I have to do this? That rat Megatron almost destroyed my friend Hot Shot!"<br>
"Sorry, I didn't even know that."<br>
(Ironhide breaks free of Demolishor's grip, so Demolishor grabs him and punches him inn the stomach)<br>
"...Hey, why did you hit me?"<br>
(Ironhide collapses)<br>
"I'm tired of hiding who I am! Sorry, Ironhide!"
:—Demolishor and Ironhide conflict on more than one level

"Listen...closely. Turn and face me, Demolishor. Now. Raise your weapons and fire at me. ...DO IT! I'm your enemy now. Go ahead and fire on me!"
:—Megatron knows exactly how to push Demolishor's buttons

Notes
Lost in translation
Pain count
* "Uh?": 17, not including Demolishor's very justified confusion upon seeing Megatron.
* Stock footage: 1
* We need/they want energon: 7
* Energon is great: 1
* We've gotta: 2

Animation and/or technical glitches
* Inferno is shown saying "There's no way! Never!" in Ironhide's voice.
* The Divebomb that flies up to Megatron in deep space is animated against a blue sky with clouds.
* When Signal Flare is reporting progress on duplication of Megatron's sword to Optimus Prime, Signal Flare's face is entirely red.
* During Scorponok and Tidal Wave's chat, Scorponok's left eye is oddly visible through his visor.
* When Kicker runs into Ocean City's human control room, he says aloud "Hey you guys, they're overunning the city!" despite nobody else being in the room.
* Near the end of the episode, Kicker and the Omnicons arrive to back up Optimus Prime, however none of the other Transformers are actually there as they approach.
* When Megatron activates his emergency space bridge, Kicker covers his face from the glare, but the animation suddenly cuts to him with his arms at his side again.
* The energy sphere from the space bridge extends over Ironhide/Jetfire, making it appear as though the Powerlixed Autobot would be beamed out as well.
* Tidal Wave is supposed to be stupid, yet has the knowledge to repair Scorponok

Continuity errors
* Why is Earth suddenly referred to as "the planet"?
* Considering the fact every Autobot and Omnicon in Ocean City was armed with a Megatron sword by the end of the episode, Optimus Prime was being rather stingy when he said they would deliver one sword to each city to help in their defence.

Transformers references
Real-world references
* While the liquefied energon tank is similar to the CR Chambers and CR tanks from Beast Wars, in visual appearance it owes more to the Bacta tanks seen in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

Miscellaneous notes
* The end battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron is quite well-animated by the standards of Energon.
* Optimus Prime using his drill leg to kick at Starscream is pretty awesome.
* The scene where Optimus and Megatron clash swords (which eventually causes an explosion), was used in the intro sequence of Superlink.
