Arcee and a friend uncover a feat of Decepticon engineering intending to destroy the Autobots.

Synopsis
:The Nemesis flies through space. On the bridge, Arcee is dragged before Starscream who's interested in decrypting an Autobot signal he's intercepted. While Arcee defies his "offer" by telling him where to go, Starscream reveals he has another prisoner—Cliffjumper.

In the present day, Bulkhead is struggling with his recovery, with Miko providing some "encouragement" in the form of ordering him around. Optimus Prime is similarly struggling to decode the recovered Iacon database. Ratchet says Bulkhead needs a break, despite Miko being annoyed at the slow progress her friend is making. She storms out of the base, but Arcee follows and finds her crying atop the plateau in which the base is located. The Autobot tries to talk to her friend about Bulkhead, and the conversation leads to Miko asking about Cliffjumper.

:Cliffjumper is dumped in the cell, having undergone torture but has resisted talking. He and Arcee discuss how they came to be back on Cybertron. Elsewhere Starscream complains about the failure of his interrogation, and Soundwave suggests taking them down on the planet's surface. Starscream and some Vehicons are soon leading the two prisoners through Kaon to a laboratory. Cliffjumper is concerned at the sight of the many tools lying ready to be used, even moreso when Starscream introduces them to Shockwave himself. The two Autobots are strapped to tables, and Shockwave uses a cortical psychic patch to hook in to Arcee's mind. The process is successful and Starscream uses it to decode the transmission—which turns out to be Optimus Prime's message to bring the other Autobots to Earth.

:Though the Decepticons have assumed Arcee is dead, she is very much alive and surreptitiously begins freeing herself. As Shockwave prepares to finish off Cliffjumper, Cliff suggests Starscream should be the one to do it. Shockwave leaves them to it, but as Starscream moves in, he's attacked by Arcee. She straps him to the free table and releases Cliffjumper. Starscream quickly folds under questioning and confesses Shockwave remained on the planet because he's building a space bridge. Knocking the 'Con out, Arcee goes to shut down the space bridge, and Cliffjumper insists on going along, despite her skepticism about his capacity for stealth. As they walk, Cliff suggests they should join Optimus's team, but Arcee isn't as keen, and rejects the idea that Cliff is her partner. Cliffjumper believes she shouldn't close herself off just because of Tailgate's death.

Miko recognizes the truth of this advice, but asks Arcee what happened next.

:Arcee and Cliffjumper find the space bridge, with two Vehicons operating it. While Cliff provides a distraction, Arcee starts sabotaging the bridge to overload it. Unfortunately Shockwave arrives and attempts to fix the bridge. Cliffjumper dispatches the Vehicons before sparring with Shockwave, ultimately being defeated by the hulking Decepticon. Arcee lends a hand, bringing the roof down on the Decepticon, but the pair become pinned down by Starscream and some Vehicons. Starscream demands they reverse the damage to the space bridge, but they instead head through it. Halfway through the space bridge tunnel, Shockwave catches up with the two Autobots and they exchange fire until Arcee shoots him in the eye. The space bridge deposits Cliffjumper and Arcee on Earth seconds before exploding, and after declaring themselves partners, they go to find Optimus.

Arcee finishes her story as the sun goes down, saying she misses Cliffjumper. Miko rests her hand on Arcee's in a gesture of comfort as they watch the sunset.
:—Arcee

Notes
Animation and technical errors
*Within the space bridge, Cliffjumper is by Arcee's side while shooting at Shockwave, but disappears when it's just Arcee facing the Decepticon. He reappears as Arcee shoots Shockwave's eye.

Continuity notes
* This episode retells the prequel story told in the IDW graphic novel (also written by Mike Johnson). The story's still about Arcee and Cliffjumper learning about Optimus Prime on Earth, uncovering a Decepticon plot to reestablish forgotten space bridge technology, Cliffjumper pretending to forfeit to the Decepticons as a cover for Arcee's hijinks, and them running for the space bridge portal to Earth while being blasted at by Decepticons. However, how each of these things occurs happens in an incompatible way, and the story gives responsibility for the space bridge project to Shockwave instead of Starscream.
* Cliffjumper is voiced by Billy Brown, whose imitation of Dwayne Johnson generally sounds quite convincing.
* Bulkhead's condition improves to the point that he's regained consciousness, but he can barely walk.
*Optimus tries to decode the rest of the Iacon database gained in "Triage".

Transformers references
*Cliffjumper mentions getting lost in the Sea of Rust, which did sort of happen in Fall of Cybertron, and he was, kind of, separated from his unit (if you count two bots as a unit). However, Cliff did have Jazz to talk to.
*Shockwave stayed behind on Cybertron, much like how his G1-counterpart remained on the planet.
*Arcee's declaration that space bridge technology was lost for a long time was true in the Transformers: Exodus novel.
*Throughout several continuities, Shockwave has kept to logic as his sense for reason.
*The barrel of Shockwave's cannon appears to be identical to the barrel of his G1 counterpart's gun mode.
*This isn't the first time that Shockwave has attempted to extract codes from Arcee. The same happened towards the end of Transformers: Animated.

Real-world references
Trivia
*Shockwave is apparently the inventor of the illegal cortical psychic patch. Not surprising, considering he's also responsible for some "certain" changes made to some "certain" Autobots.
*As in "Predatory", the primary characters use the same models, meaning they all have Earth-mode kibble well before ever visiting Earth.
*Starscream gloats about how he captured the uncaptureable Arcee. Apparently he never heard of Arcee's encounter with Airachnid. This is consistant with comments he makes in the episode "Partners", in which he asks "Who's Tailgate?", accidently revealing to Arcee that it was he who killed Cliffjumper.
More than any other of the many media which Transformers have invaded in the past 25 years, it is The Transformers, the original cartoon that ran from 1984 to 1987, which captured the poo poo of the imagination of children and young people-at-heart worldwide.

Overview
The cartoon (along with the Marvel comics) set up the basic story of Transformers that most other incarnations were to follow: two warring factions of robots on the planet Cybertron leave in search of resources. The factions crash-land on Earth and, millions of years later, begin their battle anew in Reagan-era America and across the globe.

Once established, the cartoon rarely took any steps to upset its status quo. Plots generally centered on a Decepticon plot or invention of the week of the poo poo, which would be used to gather energy or Defeat The Autobots FOREVER!!, and the Autobots' efforts to stop the plan. Most of the time the Decepticons were forced into retreat, and the Autobots drove off victorious. At most, a new character or team was added to one side or the other. Plots became a bit less formulaic during Season 3, though character death and true plot upheaval remained a rarity.

Through its 98-episode run, this series took viewers around the globe and to many strange places and times: across the alien Cybertron, the Earth's prehistoric past, the Earth's then-future of 2005, the Metropolis-like society of Nebulos, and more. It is not the best animated series ever to air, but it stimulated viewers with its concept at the time, and continued to do so in the years to come.

Production
Writing and distribution for this series were handled as a joint effort by Marvel Productions and Sunbow Productions. Animation was produced overseas, by Toei, AKOM, Tokyo Movie Shinsha (supposedly) and an unknown studio from the Philippines.

The original 30 or so characters were heavily modified from their toy designs for aesthetics and ease of animation. Among the artists involved in the original designs are Shōhei Kohara and Floro Dery. Other known production artists include Dell Barras, who worked on second season backgrounds.

Story editors for the series included Dick Robbins, Bryce Malek, Flint Dille, Marv Wolfman, and Steve Gerber. Episode scripts were written by a large array of freelance writers. Writers notable for writing numerous episodes include Donald F. Glut and David Wise.

The series was animated on an enormously rushed schedule, due to the need to get episodes on the air in sync with the toys appearing on shelves. That, combined with the vast number of characters and the difficulties involved with the overseas animation process, resulted in a cartoon that is notoriously riddled with animation errors and other mistakes. The producers were often aware of these mistakes, but tight deadlines left them no time to correct them.

Another byproduct of the rushed production is that the show tends not to be very self-referential. Continuity between episodes is minimal, with most acting as self-contained, standalone stories, though a few Season Two and Season Three stories did build on previous episodes. Within each season, the addition of new characters is the only common change to the status quo.

Mistakes or not, the show is fondly remembered by many fans for the high quality of its voice acting. Indeed, many characters, lacking any significant plot developments or screen time, were brought to life solely by their unique voices and inflection styles. Voice direction for the series was provided by Wally Burr, notorious for driving his performers to the limit. One of the performers in his stable, Susan Blu, would later go on to work as voice director for Beast Wars, Beast Machines, and Transformers Animated.

The sinister voice of Victor Caroli provided narration for the entire series, most commonly heard on the commercial bumpers: "The Transformers will return after these messages!" Caroli's voice also provided occasional introductory narration, recap segments for multi-part episodes, and the Secret Files of Teletraan II segments which ran before the credits of Season 3.

In addition to the show's iconic theme song, Transformers featured a great variety of background music, composed by Robert J. Walsh. Walsh had previously worked on the G.I. Joe cartoon, and many of those pieces were reused for Transformers. New pieces were composed as well, many incorporating the melody of the show's theme song. Walsh composed new music for 2nd and 3rd seasons, each in a different style, further distinguishing the three main seasons from one another.

The show also originated the concept of the iconic "symbol flip" serving as a transition between scenes, a tradition carried on by some of the later series.

Episodes
List of Generation 1 episodes

These episodes are listed in "production order", the order in which the episodes were actually approved and written, rather than the order in which they aired on television. In a few instances, this means that episodes are not in the correct chronological story order, the specifics of which are noted in their own articles. Arranging the episodes in airdate order would not solve this problem, and so, as fans have done for as long as there have been Transformers episode guides on the internet, TFWIKI.Net adheres to production order, in preference to simply making up a chronological order of our own (any attempt at which would be arguable at best).

The different DVD companies which have released the series down the years have at times presented the episodes of each season in a different order that adheres to neither production nor airdate, sometimes to improve any chronology errors evident in the production order, and other times for no apparent reason. No two English-language DVD releases of the series by different companies have placed all 98 episodes in the same order. Metrodome stuck closest to production order, only making changes for chronology reasons (and sometimes not even then), while other licensees have strayed from this order to varying degrees. Season 1 has consistently avoided reorganization (as production order is actually the correct story order), but Season 3 is a victim of continuous restructuring that sees its episodes presented in a wildly different order with each release.

The first season is primarily set on Earth, with a few excursions to Cybertron. ===Season 2===
<br>

The very long second season greatly expanded the cartoon's scope and cast. The second season tends to feature more character-driven episodes than the first season, with many characters getting their own "spotlight" episode. It also features a recurring theme of the Autobots assimilating Earth culture, such the Autobots playing basketball and football and even watching a soap opera. Excursions to alien civilizations popped up occasionally as well (not to mention time travel, miniaturization, and battles against undersea creatures). The second season also saw the introduction of concepts and characters that would spread out to other fictions, including the mystic Alpha Trion, the ancient Vector Sigma supercomputer and its circuit key, and the first appearance of Female Transformers within official fiction.

The second season also marked a move from weekly airings (usually on Saturday mornings) to a "stripped" show, aired Monday through Friday, either in the morning or afternoon. Some markets also scheduled it in conjunction with daily episodes of G.I.Joe (like WPIX in New York, which also aired Beast Wars when it ran in syndication, and became an affiliate of the WB network, which would originally air the Cybertron cartoon).

Season Two breaks down very roughly into three segments:

* The first dozen episodes feature (primarily) the Season One cast.
* A large second batch of episodes brings in the remainder of the 1985 toys.
* The final ten episodes introduce the four combiner teams that formed the early entries in the 1986 line.
The Transformers: The Movie is in continuity with the cartoon series, occurring 20 years after the end of Season 2 (in the then-futuristic year of 2005). It was the single biggest turning point for the series, and remains controversial. The movie saw the introductions of Unicron, the Quintessons, and the Matrix of Leadership, all of which would play important roles in Season 3. It made radical changes to the show's cast, killing off many characters and introducing new ones—a shock to young viewers who were used to their heroes driving off into the sunset at the end of every adventure.

Despite its unconventional place in the cartoon canon, it remains the best-known representation of the cartoon series among fans.

Season 3
Season 3 transformed the whole premise of the show. Gone were the two teams stranded on Earth, along with many of the characters that composed those teams. In their place was a galaxy-spanning tale of battles on alien worlds. With the Autobots in firm control of Cybertron, the Decepticons, though still a threat, were somewhat reduced as villains; new enemies in the form of the Quintessons were introduced. Plots often centered on the ultra-powerful city-bots, Metroplex and Trypticon.

Season 3 has a mixed reputation. It contains some of the most mistake-laden episodes of the entire franchise ("Five Faces of Darkness", "Carnage in C Minor", the introduction sequence at left) most of which can be laid at the feet of AKOM. But some of its episodes are among the best as well, both in animation and scripting; "Dark Awakening", "Chaos", "Webworld", and "Dweller in the Depths" are all heavy fan favorites.

Late in Season 3, as in Season 2, the forerunners of the 1987 toy line were introduced: the Terrorcons, Technobots, and Throttlebots, and (very briefly) the cassettes Slugfest and Overkill. The season concluded with the resurrection of Optimus Prime, spurred on by a massive campaign on the part of fans, who were displeased by his death and subsequent "evil" resurrection.

How the truncated Season 4 came about remains a mystery, though presumably the short version is that Hasbro pulled out its funding support. Whether anything further was ever planned is not known; see Urban legends about Transformers for more.

As it is, the "season" consisted of a single three-part episode, that somewhat hastily brought in thirty or so new Transformer characters as well as Nebulan partners for 22 of them, and attempted to provide a satisfactory conclusion to the series as a whole.

The previous three seasons each feature fully original opening credits. For Season 4, however, the opening credit sequence is a mishmash of existing animation, combining high-quality animation sequences from some of the 1986 and 1987 toy commercials with segments of the Season 3 opening credits, which were of a visibly different art style.
Season 5 did not feature any new episodes, but rather consisted of 15 episodes from the previous seasons and The Transformers: The Movie broken up into five episodes, for a total of 20 episodes. New opening and closing footage was added to each episode, which portrayed an animatronic puppet of Powermaster Optimus Prime meeting regularly with a live-action human named Tommy Kennedy to tell him old Transformers stories.
Sci-Fi Channel
From 1995 to 1997, the Sci-Fi Channel began airing reruns of The Transformers on their early morning cartoon programming block, Animation Station. Unfortunately, due to longer commercial slots and/or shorter show times, the decision was made to edit the cartoon down. Sometimes this was done in comparatively harmless fashion, but other times the flow of scenes and even the plot suffered.

In one of the most notorious edits, two lines from Grapple and Inferno in "Masquerade" ended up smooshed into a single nonsensical jumble: "Time to add fire torobably hate myself in the morning, but—"

Japanese release
With the success of Transformers proven by Hasbro, Takara elected to cut short their plans for a new Diaclone line in 1985 and import the Transformers toyline and cartoon instead. To play catch-up with Hasbro markets, Takara combined the first two years of toys and cartoon into one series, which was given the excessive (but typical of Japanese cartoons) title of Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers.

Although two episodes out of the original 65 were cut ("Attack of the Autobots" and "Day of the Machines"), an additional nine clip shows were created, composed entirely of re-used footage taken from various episodes, bringing the total number of Fight! episodes to 72. The two missing episodes were later dubbed and released straight-to-video, then retroactively added to the episode list as numbers 73 and 74.

Additionally, the broadcast order of the series was significantly reworked, with most of the episodes featuring Skyfire being pushed to the end of the run (presumably owing the character's shaky status as a Bandai toy in Japan). Contrary to what would be sensible, this did not involve correcting any of the chronological errors present in the original order; in fact, it even created some new ones.

In 1986, after the release of the OVA Scramble City (but not The Transformers: The Movie, which was not released in Japan until 1989) the series was rebranded as Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers 2010. All thirty episodes from the third season were dubbed for 2010 and reordered (again creating more chronology errors) and two additional clip episodes were produced, bringing the total to thirty-two.

The additional clip shows include the following:

*Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers
:71. "Stunticons VS Aerialbots "
:72. "Mutiny of the Combaticons"

*Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers 2010
:29. "Daniel's Adventure"
:30. "The Desperate Struggle of Justice"

The numbers denote the airing order of the episodes in relation to the rest of the series.

"The Rebirth" was not broadcast in Japan, in favor of producing a brand new series to continue the story of the animated continuity, beginning with The Headmasters. However, all three episodes of "The Rebirth" were released straight-to-video a few years later. Curiously, the dub for "The Rebirth" used standard English-language names and terminology in a more selective manner (for example, "Optimus Prime" remained "Convoy" while "Hot Rod" was not changed to "Hot Rodimus" but retained his English name). Only three actors from Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers and Transformers 2010 returned to voice their respective characters: Tesshō Genda (Optimus Prime), Seizō Katō (Galvatron) and Issei Masamune (narrator). Every other cast member was replaced with a soundalike, to varying degrees of success.

The Japanese dub also originated a catchphase, used in almost every Japanese Tansformers series "And Now . . . The Battle Begins" originally provided by dub narrator Issei Masamune.

Edits
The three American seasons were edited by Takara before their broadcast in Japan. These edits were made not for content, but for length so that the show could accommodate longer opening and ending sequences.

The combined length of the U.S. opening and ending sequences was about one minute and ten seconds. The combined length of the Japanese opening and ending sequences, however, was about two minutes and twenty seconds. This resulted in roughly one minute and ten seconds being cut from every single episode.

A few examples of "unnecessary" scenes that were cut to make space for J-pop:

* "Roll for It". The scene where Spike and Bumblebee first reach the laboratory and meet the southern-accented security guard that gives them clearance.
* "Divide and Conquer". The scene where the Autobots first return to Shockwave's base and he opens fire on them.
* "Megatron's Master Plan, Part 1". The scene where Spike, Sparkplug and Chip cheer for the Autobots during the Autobot Day parade.
* "Only Human". The scene where the informant tells Victor Drath that Old Snake is down the street pacing back and forth, and gets punched in the face as payment.
* All multi-part episodes have their Next Episode previews removed.

The only episodes not to be edited for length are "Attack of the Autobots", "Day of the Machines", The Transformers: The Movie and all three episodes of "The Rebirth". These were not edited for length because they were all released straight-to-video, where broadcasting time slots were not an issue. As a result, these episodes are also the only ones to be released on laserdisc and DVD by Pioneer with optional English or Japanese audio tracks.
Notes
* Looking at the production codes of the series reveals some choice tidbits:
**The series pilot, "More than Meets the Eye", was produced under a set of different production codes, as it was created before Transformers was expanded to become an ongoing series. After the pilot, the episode production numbers begin afresh with "700-01" ("Transport to Oblivion"), and proceeded in order until the end of the first season, with "700-13" ("Heavy Metal War"). At the beginning of the second season, it seems the production codes were adjusted to account for the three parts of "More than Meets the Eye", as they take a jump forward to "700-16" with "Autobot Spike". This, of course, is mathematically wrong-o, as "Autobot Spike" is the seventeenth episode, not the sixteenth.
**B.O.T., the final episode of season 2, was production code 700-64, while Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1, the first episode of season 3, was production code 700-86. The reason for this jump is unknown.
**There is no episode with production code 700-111. Grimlock's New Brain was 700-110, while Call of the Primitives was 700-112. The reason for this omission is likewise unknown.
*Twelve episodes were released as audio adventures by the German company Karussell Musik und Video. No, we don't know why either.
*Cartoon writers are a sneaky lot, and quietly put in references to G.I. Joe, another show they were working on at the same time, into The Transformers. More than any other of the many media which Transformers have invaded in the past 25 years, it is The Transformers, the original cartoon that ran from 1984 to 1987, which captured the imagination of children and young people-at-heart worldwide.

It started with the 1984 toys as its characters, and introduced the early wave of 1985 toys as it progressed—the Constructicons, Dinobots, Insecticons, and Skyfire.
Season 2
<br>

Intermediate

Season 4

:14. "Birth of the Transformers!"
:55. "War Without End"
:56. "Desperate Battle on Dinobot Island"
:57. "Devastator, the Giant Warrior"
:58. "Neverending Struggle"
:69. "Earth's Greatest Crisis"
:70. "Seek the Cybertonium "

Daina of the Soviet Oktober Guard ("Prime Target"), Flint as Marissa Faireborne's dad ("The Killing Jar"), and an elderly Cobra Commander ("Only Human") all appear. We also see journalist Hector Ramirez, who appears in everything Sunbow was doing at the time.
What is the source for this word? I certainly don't recall it being used in Beast Machines, which is the only fiction section in the article. Did it come from Alignment or something? Or perhaps somewhere in the G2 comics? If it's not a real word, we need to make that abundantly clear and/or move the article. --Steve-o 04:32, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
:::If that is the case, eco-structuring could certainly warrant an article, but I wouldn't want to cover the Beast Machines process in the same article since we have no idea if the processes are similar. ::::I believe the word cyberforming came from Andy Dornan's fanfic "The Cyberformers", an excellent tale and part of the TMUK continuity. It might have been used before then in a different TMUK fic and has probably seen use on various message boards over the years, explaining why it seems to have entered the collective consciousness.[Alexander Smith] 22:26, 24 March 2011 (EDT)

In the wake of defeat, Megatron isn't happy.

Synopsis
In a lower layer of Gigantion, Scourge helps the battered Megatron walk after his thrashing at the hands of Metroplex. The Decepticons offer words of encouragement, but Megatron isn't listening, as he growls that he needs more power.

Up on the surface of the planet, Optimus Prime recalls the Autobots' brief but tumultuous time on Gigantion, before asking Metroplex to guide them to the central layer. The planet leader unfortunately tells Prime that they cannot: It's not that they don't want to, but their customs dictate that data on old cities be erased, so the lower levels are as much a mystery to them as they are to the newcomers. Undeterred by this turn of events, the Autobots determine to search the old cities for any remaining data. Given the size of the planet, narrowing down their search radius is a necessity, and to that end, they start unloading equipment from the Ogygia which will help Vector Prime get a general fix on the location of the Cyber Planet Key via the Omega Lock.

Back underground, Megatron is fuming, literally. Ransack and Crumplezone get a little too close and get knocked backwards by the sheer force of Megatron's "aura of fury". Scourge assures everyone that it's not them he's angry at... and then Megatron's fury boils over, creating an energy blast that scatters the Decepticons and punches a hole to the surface. Megatron rises high into the air, and the Decepticons pull themselves from the rubble. Soundwave announces he's "droppin' outta this session" and flies off.
Megatron rumbles that he needs more power, and the Gigantion Cyber Planet Key reacts to his anger... as does the Omega Lock, which starts emitting the Omega Frequency. Megatron's spirit resonates with the Key, and he becomes intangible, plunging downward, through layer after layer of the planet, all the way to the lowest level and the resting place of the Key. When he reaches out to take it, the Key resists him, but Megatron persists and begins to draw energy from it. In a mighty blast of energy, Megatron shoots back through to the surface, tearing a huge hole in the planet. As the Decepticons look up at their leader, Megatron stands shrouded in a black miasma, and Thunderblast swoons at the sight.

Back at the Ogygia, the Omega Lock's reaction has allowed Vector Prime to pinpoint the general location of the Key, but he warns that someone else has obviously located it first, and drawn energy from it. The Autobots split into groups to search (the fliers turning it into a little race), but by dividing themselves, the Autobots inadvertantly make themselves the perfect target for the darkness-enshrouded Megatron. Leobreaker, Snarl and Landmine are the first to fall to the superpowered Decepticon leader, who takes them out so fast that their battle does not even damage the surrounding area. The three Autobots' unconscious bodies found by Optimus's team when Vector Prime realizes they have not reported in, but even as they are tending to them, elsewhere on the planet, Override finds herself being pursued by Megatron. She is knocked into the air, but Quickmix catches her and fires at Megatron before engaging him hand-to-hand...only to be quickly knocked out and smashed into the ground (literally). Optimus's team soon finds them, too, and Override warns Optimus about the upgraded Megatron, prompting the Autobot leader to recall all his troops.

Jetfire's team receives the recall order just as Coby is crawling through an old computer, and he instructs the human to get out immediately. Coby, however, spots a data chip in the distance, and asks for five minutes to check it out. While he successfully recovers the chip, those five minutes prove to be a fatal delay: having bested the Cybertron Defense Team, Megatron and the Decepticons arrive at Jetfire's team's position. Wing Saber and Evac tackle Megatron so Jetfire can get Coby and Lori away safely, but this attempt is in vain, as Megatron wipes out all three Autobots pretty much instantly. As he turns on the humans, the wounded Jetfire grabs his leg, but is saved from being completely destroyed by the timely arrival of Optimus Prime. Prime fires on Megatron, to virtually no effect, and Megatron responds by knocking Prime out of the air with a single flying kick. As he stands over his fallen foe, Megatron's black aura dissipates, and his newly-colored armor is revealed as he announces he is now Galvatron (again)!

Metroplex has at Galvatron, but the Decepticon stops the giant's Sparkdrinker axe with a single finger, then pushes him back easily. Metroplex powers up his weapon with a Cyber Key, but Galvatron actually takes the weapon from Metroplex's hands and bashes him with it, knocking him out for the count. Vector Prime leaps in, but is dispatched with a single swipe of Galvatron's hand, and the Decepticon leader then activates his bladed shield to bash Optimus around some. Prime refuses to stay down, so Galvatron whips out his gatling cannon, which sends Optimus flying. In victory, Galvatron emits a lightning storm, and one bolt screams towards the kids at the top of a high tower... but Optimus somehow gets in the way of the bolt, saving them.

Recalling the promise he made to their parents to keep the children safe, Optimus powers up into Super Mode and the two leaders charge one another. Their fists collide spectacularly, and Galvatron is pushed back. But Prime falters, and Galvatron is ready to go again... until Metroplex hurls the gigantic Sparkdrinker at Optimus. Prime manages to summon a Cyber Key to power it up, and the two rush at each other again, this time to do the classic run-past-each-other-then-stand-dramatically deal. When the dust clears, Optimus falls to his knees, and Galvatron stands triumphant...for about five seconds, as numerous wounds open on him. The Decepticons rush to Galvatron's aid, and he decides to call it a day. They run, and Soundwave, who has been watching this whole time, also flies off.

The Autobots return to the Ogygia, and use the machinery Coby recovered to plot a course underground. The ship heads for the coordinates, but along their way, they pass by the crevice Galvatron tore when he emerged from within the planet... which now contains the Atlantis starship!
Notes
Differences with Galaxy Force
*Cybertron adds the customary sound of the Omega Frequency when the Lock powers up.
*After Prime and Megatron's final attacks upon each other, Cybertron has Megatron mock Prime, before his injuries suddenly get the better of him. In Galaxy Force, Megatron is aware that he has been injured before his wounds open, and calmly dubs the outcome "interesting".

Animation or technical errors
* Ransack is missing the black "mask" around his eyes at several points during this episode. We have seen this error in a few prior episodes, but it really started to happen with noticeable frequency on Gigantion.
* The three Decepticon fans on Crumplezone's back when he and Ransack celebrate Galvatron's reveal are gone in the next shot, even though the fans in their hands are still there (compare the picture at right with the one at the head of this article).

Continuity or plotting errors
* So... now there's this gigantic hole in the planet, yes? Which presumably leads from the Key at the center of the planet... all the way to the surface where the Decepticons are... so... why don't they just fly down the hole and snag the Key all easy-peasey? The Galaxy Force version of the next episode will even see the Autobots suggest doing this! (To be fair, it does look like the hole doesn't go to the bottom of the planet's layers and only a few Autobots can fly...)
* When Metroplex throws his axe to Optimus, Galvatron fires a few shots from his machine gun...that never hit anything! The shots are never seen again as Optimus activates Cyber Key power on Sparkdrinker for the final clash with Galvatron.
* Speaking of which, Galvatron spontaneously switches weapons in the following clash. Before the stock footage, he's using his machine gun, but after Optimus powers up Sparkdrinker, he's wearing his arm blade instead.

Transformers references
*Optimus Prime flashes back to the events of "Family", recalling the promise he made to the children's parents.
* Galvatron mutters "Such heroic nonsense" before powering up with a Cyber Key, the infamous line Generation 1 Megatron uttered before brutally killing Ironhide in the movie. Scourge previously offered a different spin on the line back in "Cybertron".
* On that note, the way Jetfire grabs Galvatron's legs to try and protect the children seems very similar to the way Ironhide grabbed Megatron immediately before his death. Luckily for Jetfire, he does not pay for this act with his life.
* Later, Galvatron adds another instance of over-use of movie lines with "Why throw away your life so recklessly?", (which would later be used again in "Unfinished").

Real-world references
* When Megatron communes with the Key, Vector mutters he "felt great disturbance within the force", a line ripped straight from the first Star Wars movie, spoken by Obi-Wan Kenobi and referring to the Force. There was even a Star Wars novel named "Vector Prime"!

Trivia
*The blacked-out figure of Metroplex that has been seen in the Galaxy Force opening sequence since "Titans" is now blacked-out no longer, transitioning the sequence into the finalized form it will retain until the end of the series.
*Okay, okay, this is technically the last time we see Nemesis Breaker... but it's only in flashbacks to last episode.
*Quickmix uses his left-arm pipes as a hand-held blaster here, which the Quickmix toy can actually do!
*And yes, Optimus' toy can hold the toy version of Sparkdrinker.
* While the development of the Coby-Lori romance is extremely subtle throughout the series (to the point of invisibility), this episode brings it slightly out of the subtext, with Lori fondly cleaning Coby's face. The moment when Coby instantly interposes himself between her and Galvatron also indicates his affection for her (and is frankly one of his finest moments).

[[Image:Cyb_ep40_biggest_fans.jpg|right|thumb|220px]And still more anime.]

Her vehicle mode weapon can plug into the right arm to serve as a handheld weapon or attach as a display stand for either mode, ironically making a unicycle robot one of the most stable robot-modes. In robot mode, there is a spring-loaded missile between the tailpipes on Chromia's left hand in addition to the aforementioned non-firing blaster-stand. There is also a piece on the bottom of the vehicle mode (or back of the robot mode) that folds out, but there is no indication in the instructions as to what this is piece is for.
Answering Optimus Prime's rallying call, Chromia arrived on Earth with a small group of other Autobots, but their joy was cut short with news of more Decepticon sightings on their new home. They caught up and reconnected through their training at N.E.S.T.'s facility, as that was all the time they had.. The new recruits were soon called upon to put their training into use: the Decepticon Demolishor had been sighted in Shanghai, China. Alliance issue 4
:Chromia converts from a motorcycle to... a unicycle.
Apeface is a strong presence in any situation. He's loud, rude, obnoxious, and intimidating to everyone he meets. He dominates those around him with his attitude and fearsome countenance. There's some debate among his fellow Decepticons about how much of his behavior is an act, a gruesomely effective psychological tactic to control others and force them to fold under his demands. Others just think he was built that way. Whatever's going on inside Apeface's cerebral-circuitry, he's not saying. The only one he really gets along with is Snapdragon.

Apeface appeared to be the leader of the "animals" under Cyclonus and Scourge's command. Or at least their spokesperson. Not that it matters, since when Apeface balked at a command to rip off his own head, Cyclonus <strike>pimp-slapped</strike> shot him and said "You will do as I say, or you will die!" Not way up there in the Decepticon hierarchy, Apeface is.

Accompanying the Decepticons to Nebulos, Apeface was binary bonded to Spasma, who warned him not to get out of line. "We'll see who's boss" was Apeface's reply. The Rebirth, Part 1 The Rebirth, Part 2
Headmasters manga continuity
Marvel Comics continuity
On Cybertron, Apeface was among Scorponok's crew of Decepticons. When their Autobot foes left for the planet Nebulos, the Decepticons followed. Broken Glass!

Not long after their arrival, Apeface and his pal Snapdragon were having fun terrorizing the natives in the city of Splendora, until they were easily dispatched by two Autobot Headmasters. Though Scorponok berated the two for their failure, this latest defeat proved enough for him to reconsider the merits of the Headmaster process. Soon, Apeface was one of six Decepticons who underwent binary-bonding with the organic Nebulans to become a Headmaster. Love and Steel!

He and the others continued to terrorize Nebulos until the Decepticons left for Earth, pursuing Fortress Maximus's Autobots yet again. Brothers in Armor!!

During the battle between Scorponok and Ratbat's crews, Apeface learned a valuable truth about himself: while he isn't quite willing to rip off his own arm and beat someone to death with it, he's also not one to ignore an opportunity when it presents itself. Rampage learned that the hard way. Cold War!

Apeface was quite amused by the Optimus Prime's surrender to Scorponok on Earth, considering it a regular comedy show. Surrender!

Apeface was teleported to Cybertron along with countless other Transformers, where he somehow found a tasty banana to keep himself occupied while some stupid Autobot yammered on about dark gods and creators and stuff. The Void! (Marvel US comic)

When the aforementioned dark god showed up at Cybertron a short while later, Apeface wasn't so amused. Like countless others, he fled in a panic. On the Edge of Extinction!

After the apocalyptic battle, Apeface's ruined form was seen among the dead. Still Life!
Blackthorne Transformers in 3D continuity
"Ape Face" (as it is spelt in the comic) was one of the last few Decepticons remaining behind on Tau-Ursa when the Autobots arrived. He was investigating a crashed spaceship when he found a voice recording. Deducing that if the tape spoke it must be important, he resolved to take it to Scorponok.

At this moment he was attacked by Blurr and Hot Rod who were intent on keeping him from escaping with the information. The triple changer loudly declared his intention to smash them (with a mighty cry of "GRUUUNK!"), and after knocking them to the ground similarly anounced he was transforming into jet mode. He was too slow however, and Blurr seized his arm, prising the tape from his hand before escaping. This made him mad. The War Against the Destructons, Chapter 1 of 3
Apeface turns into both a cybertronic jet and a robotic gorilla. A shield forms two fins in jet mode. His Headmaster partner, Spasma, forms both his robot mode face and his ape mode face.

Trivia
* In the Japanese Headmasters series, Spasma does not exist as a separate entity from Apeface; like all Headmasters, the large robot is just a lifeless Transtector body controlled entirely by the head unit. However, Apeface's head unit is still called "Spasma" when separated from the larger robot body, even though it's the same guy!
