Time Wars?
Where was it ever stated that Snarler was part of Carnivac's Mayhem Attack Squad? He's completely absent during Time Wars. -- Repowers 16:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
:I don't think he was. Springer seemingly has no idea who he is when they meet in Survivors. ("Catilla kept up surveillance while Snarler and I -" "Snarler? Who's Snarler?") -LV 18:32, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
::It wasn't explicitly stated, but I can't think of anywhere else he could have come from. The Mayhems land on Earth, they get skragged, abandoned by their superiors, and suddenly Snarler is present at the side of the two surviving members. He references the Mayhems' orders from Cybertron to have killed all Wreckers after the Time Wars. Also, US #51 established the principle of one Mayhem staying completely behind the scenes during a mission (Catilla). The explanation that makes the most sense is that Snarler was a seventh Mayhem who did not present himself to the Wreckers during the Time Wars, remaining unseen in reserve as a failsafe. Either that, or we have to assume a lone Decepticon appeared completely out of the blue after Time Wars and joined the remaining Mayhems in exile. --Xaaron 04:57, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
:::That's a reasonable guess at what happened, but it's still speculation that's currently being presented as known fact. Considering Snarler had no trouble returning to Cybertron to join the new Mayhem squad there, it's not unreasonable that he could have traveled to Earth after Time Wars. Does it make *sense*? No, but neither does his absence in Time Wars, considering his toy was contemporaneous with Carnivac and Catilla's. If Furman had wanted him there, he'd have been there -- it's not like the character didn't exist when Time Wars was written.
:::(Thinking about it, it's just as likely from a story POV that Snarler was sent to Earth to check out the surviving Mayhems, who might be viewed as tainted after associating with Autobots -- especially since Carnivac disregarded his orders to kill Springer & company. It's never made clear just what Carnivac's beef with High Command is, or if Snarler is likewise affected by it. And it fits with Snarler's general attitude towards Carnivac, though not with his exact dialogue. Again, it's speculation.)
:::I think we should leave it as an unknown: "Snarler appeared alongside Catilla and Carnivac after Galvatron's defeat; it remains unclear if he was a previously unseen member of the old Mayhem squad, or if (as per the US storyline) he arrived more recently from Cybertron." Something like that. I was only asking to see if there was more info on it in a letters column or some such. (I assume that's where our info on Ultra Magnus's creation comes from, right?) -- Repowers 05:25, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
::::Carnivac, Catilla and Snarler got their shells from "running an errand for Scorponok" - it's just as likely that Snarler was one of Scorponok's crew as a member of the Mayhems. And the Decepticons have the capability to hop back and forth between Earth and Cybertron as they please - they had no trouble getting the new Mayhems to Earth to kill Carnivac, so there doesn't seem to be any reason they couldn't have sent Snarler ahead to check on the old Mayhems first. -LV 07:50, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Notes
Is the first note actually referring to the drawing of Carnivac? Snarler and Carnivac have each other's color layouts on that image. While it's true that Snarler's still drawn with his beast head coming down on his chest the note refers to shoulder spikes which only Carnivac's character model has (even if the toy doesn't bar the single spikes on the shell's shoulder pads)86.23.60.110 13:05, 2 April 2011 (EDT)
