An Autobot and a Decepticon arrive from Cybertron, each with histories tied to the Autobot crew.

Synopsis
Surrounded by flames, Hot Shot tries to lift off a large piece of debris holding down Wheeljack's legs. Over Wheeljack's protest, Hot Shot runs to get additional assistance, leaving his friend waiting. Outside of the flames, Hot Shot's superior refuses to let Hot Shot endanger himself by entering the flames again.

On Earth, the kids mock Side Swipe's self-introduction. Side Swipe greets Blurr, but Blurr is embarrassed and denies knowing Side Swipe. After coming inside, Side Swipe stands on his own head and calls for help to jog Blurr's memory of the two's meeting.

On a sunny Cybertron, Side Swipe has been suspended upside down (possibly due to a poor attempt at a parachute landing). After a brief name exchange, Blurr blasts the rope holding Side Swipe in place.

Seeking his savior, Side Swipe followed Blurr to Earth. But Blurr has no interest in the enthusiastic wannabe and walks away. When Side Swipe tries to follow, he stumbles and disturbs Blurr's work. Blurr, Optimus, and Hot Shot meet and decide that Hot Shot is best suited to becomes Blurr's mentor.

Fred and Billy play a videogame. Billy wins, but both players are scolded by Alexis.

Hot Shot walks out into the rain to take Side Swipe under his wing. After the two are introduced, they go to the target range. Side Swipe manages to destroy his target, but without anything close to precision. Outside, Side Swipe displays that he can't transform very fast either.

Wheeljack, stranded inside of the burning terrain, calls out for help. While Hot Shot doesn't answer, Megatron marches from the flames.

By a pretty lake, Side Swipe and Hot Shot have a heart to heart. Side Swipe explains how he idolizes the dedication of Blurr, but Hot Shot instead suggests Side Swipe set more reasonable goals to find his own identity. A black car monitors the two in secret.

Alexis enjoys Fred and Billy's video game.

Cruising on a highway, the black car aggressively approaches the two Autobots. They attempt to ignore him (assuming he's domestic to the planet), but Wheeljack knocks away Side Swipe and shows his defaced Autobot logo to Hot Shot. Side Swipe connects with his Mini-Con and accelerates to fight back, while Hot Shot remembers:

On Cybertron, years ago, Hot Shot is appointed the supervisor of an enthusiastic younger bot. In person, Wheeljack's idolization matches Side Swipe's idolization of Blurr. Wheeljack then cryptically mentions the possibility of the two being separated by battle.

Use of holograms, vanishing, and aggressive driving allow Wheeljack to easily knock Side Swipe off of a cliff on one side of the road. With the younger Autobot out of the way, Hot Shot and Wheeljack are formally reintroduced. Wheeljack disregards Hot Shot's apology for the abandonment on Cybertron and explains how Megatron saved and recruited him. Now the two stand on opposite sides, and Wheeljack faces down Hot Shot with his weapon drawn... and fires.
Quotes
"Enthusiasm will get you nowhere, buddy, take a chill pill!"
:—Hypocritical (but correct) Carlos to Side Swipe

"Attention soldier! Side Swipe, as this moment, you will be working under the supervision and guidance of Hot Shot."<br>
"Under Hot Shot?"<br>
"That's right kid."<br>
"Well, who's that?"<br>
"I am! I'm Hot Shot, you idiot!"
:—Hot Shot assigns Side Swipe to himself.

"Prepare yourself, Hot Shot. You're about to get a little surprise from your past. You may have forgotten what you did to me but I will never forget."
:—Wheeljack expositing as he drives toward Hot Shot and Side Swipe.

"I'm exceedingly proud to be fighting alongside you, Hot Shot. My unit has heard all about you. Even Optimus has asked you to join his troops, correct?"<br>
"Yeah, it'd be cool if I end up goin', but it's just talk right now."<br>
"Still, it's an honour, Hot Shot. I envy you, I wish I could be more like you. I hope that we can always be friends, even if fate, or the battle, separates us once again."<br>
"You got it pal! We'll always be friends, Wheeljack."
:—An oddly translated conversation between Wheeljack and Hot Shot that magically foreshadows a future event

"I think you're mistaken, Hot Shot. I didn't come here for revenge. I'm no longer the Wheeljack you knew. Like I said, I've been reborn. I've become... a Decepticon!"<br>
"No! It's... not true!"<br>
"Sorry, but it is. Our friendship's over. Let's forget the past and get on with our lives so we can battle as enemies, understand? There's nothing I can do to change the past."
:—Wheeljack, oddly, claiming he isn't here for revenge, when he's here for revenge.

Other notes
Differences with Micron Legend
Animation and/or technical glitches
* Connecting with his Mini-Con changes Side Swipe's appearance, but in the next overhead shot, they re-use artwork of him before he powerlinked.
* In the shot with multiple Wheeljacks they are all missing their damaged Autobot symbols.
* While Wheeljack is chasing Hotshot and Side Swipe, in one shot, his small Decepticon symbol is missing.
* When Wheeljack first pulls his weapon out, it's colored grey. In the next shot, it's the proper color of yellow.
* Hot Shot and Wheeljack are drawn without the details that indicate having terrestrial alternate modes. But Megatron is animated in his Earth animation model, instead of the pre-scan animation model he had in "First Encounter."
* Wheeljack claims that he isn't here for revenge, when the rest of the episode clearly shows he's obsessed with the past and is here to take revenge on Hot Shot. This is perhaps due to translation errors or merely Wheeljack's own twisted perspective.

Miscellaneous trivia
* This episode has no opening narration at all.
* One of the members of Hot Shot's team on Cybertron is identical in design to Wheelie, only... much larger.
* Hot Shot's other superior on Cybertron uses an identical design to Fortress Maximus, but in different colors and much, much smaller.
* Hot Shot's superior in the flashback is voiced by Brian Dobson, but despite the dorkish behavior, it's unlikely he's Red Alert.
* It's never explained if Wheeljack is teleporting, or using light-manipulation.
* Nor is it explained where Side Swipe picked up his Mini-Con Nightbeat.
* Cybertron is shown to have clouds and an Earth-like atmosphere during daylight scenes in this episode.
* This episode ends on a cliffhanger, with the screen fading to black as Wheeljack points his weapon at Hot Shot, before a gunshot is heard.
*This episode is featured on Rhino's "Flashbacks" compilation DVD alongside Prehistory, Trust and part II.
Scavenger
:Scavenger is an Autobot in the Armada portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.

A former instructor at Cybertron's top military academy, Scavenger sets the bar high. It was his (and Landmine's) strict training regimen for the now-legendary Autobot leader Optimus Prime that has pushed the Autobots to countless victories. Not easily impressed, Scavenger despises cockiness and values only true skill. Like Optimus Prime, he sees potential in the young Hot Shot. Hot Shot is hotheaded and cocksure, especially now that he wields the Star Saber sword. Scavenger sees this as a problem.

But it's nothing that can't be beaten out of him.
Armada
A million years ago, Smokescreen and Scavenger were guarding the entrance to Autobase: Cybertron when Hot Shot barged in, demanding to know where Optimus Prime was. Smokescreen informed him that Prime was in the satellite room and asked if anything was wrong. All Hot Shot would say was that wrong doesn't begin to describe the situation. Dreamwave Armada issue 1 What had transpired was that a group of renegade cybertronians calling themselves "Decepticons" were attacking Mini-Con villages and capturing the inhabitants for some reason. While sifting through the rubble of of Village C-52, Scavenger opined that it looks like the diminutive Mini-Cons tried to put up a fight, but didn't stand a chance. Soon afterwards, Megatron, the Decepticon leader, attacked Cyber City, with his captured Mini-Cons re-engineered to powerlink with bulks, providing them great power. The Autobots were beaten up and forced to retreat. Dreamwave Armada issue 2

For a million years the civil war raged on, the once-proud Autobots struggled to defend themselves against the powerful, Mini-Con augmented Decepticons, who were in possession of Cybertron's only remaining Mini-Cons, the others having escaped at the beginning of the conflict. Hope came in the form of a Mini-Con Reactivation Signal sent from a distant world called Earth and the Autobots resolved to go there and fight for Truth, Justice and Freedom. Almost immediately after arriving on Earth, Smokescreen was destroying public property and suggesting that they simply smash their way across the planet to find the Mini-Cons, a plan that Scavenger agreed to, as Cybertron was their priority. This callous attitude earned them both a sharp, furious rebuke from Optimus Prime, who refused to stoop down to the level of the Decepticons. However, he also understood their frustration, telling them to save their anger for the Decepticons. Scavenger apologised for being out of line, suggesting that his logic chip was damaged. Unfortunately for the Autobots, the Decepticons had already arrived and were chasing after Sparkplug's group of Mini-Cons and their human friends, Rad, Carlos and Alexis. Prime and Scavenger arrived just in time to smash Starscream and Cyclonus out of the sky. Dreamwave Armada issue 4 While Optimus Prime kept Megatron distracted by trash talking the Decepticon's failure to defeat the Autobots with all of their power, Smokescreen snuck up and demolished the cliff face Megatron was perched upon with his head. Scavenger noted that at least Smokescreen didn't injure anything important. Eventually Megatron powerlinked with all of his Mini-Cons and gained the upper hand, but help came in the form of Jolt's group of Mini-Cons, who powerlinked with the Autobots. Rollbar linked with Scavenger, giving him extra punching power. At a tactical disadvantage, the Decepticons were forced to flee. Dreamwave Armada issue 5

Soon after establishing their base, Optimus detected unusually high energy readings in the vicinity of Death Valley in California, and sent Smokescreen and Scavenger to investigate. After some time, they reported back that the Decepticons were readying to launch some sort of rocket. Unfortunately, the Autobots were occupied with a Mini-Con rescue operation in Alaska, so Laserbeak brought them orders to do whatever was necessary to stop the Decepticons... about twenty minutes after the rocket had been launched. Fire & Ice

After arriving back from Death Valley, Smokescreen and Scavenger found an extensively damaged Optimus Prime inside Autobase: Earth and rushed him to the medical bay. When the others returned from Alaska sans their Optimus Prime, together worked to save this Prime's life and find out what had happened to their Optimus Prime. Sadly, despite their best efforts, this Prime awakened momentarily to deliver a cryptic warning about the walls of reality crumbling and the coming chaos before dying. Worlds Collide, Part 1 of 4

When the Decepticons detected the Autobots searching the multiverse for Optimus Prime, Megatron launched an attack on Autobase: Earth, seizing the opportunity to hit the Autobots while their biggest guns was missing. During the battle, Smokescreen and Scavenger were the front-line defense sent to buy time. Scavenger, despite being a bulldozer, swerved out of the way of the approaching tank-mode Demolishor and fell down a hill. This apparently knocked him out.

Really. Worlds Collide, Part 2 of 4

He survived the battle, but Smokescreen was seriously damaged by Megatron. Worlds Collide, Part 4 of 4 Scavenger and the others took Smokescreen to the Autobase on Cybertron for extensive repairs, though there was a fear he might never recover. During the final battle against Unicron, Scavenger, Hot Shot and Red Alert blasted Megatron into the Chaos Bringer to avenge Smokescreen. The End

Scavenger was hired by Megatron for his skills as a mercenary and a bounty hunter for Mini-Cons, due to the troubles Megatron was having with the troops under his command. Scavenger claimed that at first he did not know whether to accept the contract or not, until he saw the sorry state of the Decepticons after their defeat at the hands of Hot Shot and the Star Saber. His mocking lack of respect or fear for Megatron intimidated the other Decepticons, as well as earning Starscream's hatred.

His first appearance on Earth was during an observation of a battle between Starscream and Hot Shot. Noting that Hot Shot only won because the Star Saber sensed its wielder's inexperience, Scavenger challenged the younger Autobot and soundly beat him, despite suffering a serious wound. Overmatch

Later, it was revealed that Scavenger was in fact an Autobot spy working on the behalf of Optimus Prime. After locating Rollbar, he set his goal on misleading the Decepticons. It is unclear how long Scavenger posed as a Decepticon, but Megatron takes note of his "legacy" in deciding to trust him.

Scavenger performed his spy duties so well, that he surprised most of the Autobots when he turned over an important member of the Skyboom shield to Megatron. Scavenger continued to serve Megatron until abruptly turning on the Decepticons and aiding Optimus Prime. Scavenger revealed his past with Prime as a teacher and fellow soldier before taking Hot Shot under his wing. Scavenger believes in hard work, but is also prone to bouts of laziness. Trust (Armada)
He served with the Autobots until the end of the Unicron Battles.
Scavenger was given command of the DieCast and sent to Zeta Persei. Force of Habit
**Japanese ID number: MC-07
**Accessories: Missile

: Scavenger transforms into a large green front-end loader featuring functional rubber treads. Rollbar (in robot mode) can be placed inside the driver's cabin, and pressing down on the Mini-Con activates engine start up and revving sounds. Pushing Scavenger forward will cause the large purple drum wheel at the back to rotate, making driving sounds, and as he rolls forward, his shovel blade will move up and down.

: In robot mode, Scavenger has no "useful" leg articulation whatsoever. His legs are halves of the shovel blade clipped onto the purple drum wheel. Pushing Scavenger forward in robot mode rotates the wheel, moving the leg-facades up and down in a simulation of walking. Each step is accompanying by a stomp sound effect. Moving his arms up and down activates a crashing metal sound effect. Powerlinxing a Mini-Con to the active Powerlinx port on his hip then pulling it back fires a purple projectile, as well as activating a laser firing sound.

: This mold was used to make Treadbolt.
Trivia
* From a design standpoint, Scavenger is essentially an homage to the Generation 1 Constructicons. His coloring is the same distinctive green and purple of the Constructicons, his name, of course, is based off one of the Constructicons (while his Japanese name is the same as Devastator's), and his alternate form is that of a bulldozer, similar to another Constructicon. In addition, his Cybertronic robot mode, seen in the episode "Trust", uses a rifle drawn to resemble Devastator's.

* Scavenger was based off a character design of the same name for the aborted Transtech line.
Which side is Scavenger really on?

Synopsis
At the Autobot base, Carlos sits down to enjoy a drink of milk. The kids discuss Hot Shot's determination as he trains with Scavenger as his new instructor, and Alexis suggests they go see Hot Shot in action. Rad and Alexis rush off and Carlos struggles to catch up, and none of them really seems to care that they left their breakfast behind. So much for the most important meal of the day.

The trio look for Hot Shot, but find only Scavenger, fast asleep, after they initially mistake his snores for the growls of an animal. Alexis jokes that Carlos also likes to take naps. As Scavenger, oblivious to the kids, continues to nap, Hot Shot practices his dramatic punching and kicking. Surprisingly, Scavenger has no commentary to offer.

Seeing Scavenger's sloth, Carlos ponders on the matter of Scavenger's allegiance and advises Hot Shot to be apprehensive. Elsewhere, Carlos overhears similar misgivings regarding Scavenger from Smokescreen, who compares Scavenger to Sideways.

Meanwhile, on the Moon, Starscream puts forward the idea that Scavenger has switched sides. Because Scavenger deserted the Decepticons, Megatron declares him an enemy and puts the call out for his head. Starscream interjects, and Megatron responds by standing, ripping off a panel from the back of his shoulder treads, and throwing it at Starscream, which the steam coming from his shoulder shows.

Back on Earth, the kids inquire after Scavenger with Optimus. Before Prime can explain, the Autobots' Mini-Con detection alarms go off.

In a snowy area, the Autobots and Decepticons square off and battle head-on. Most of the battles are evenly matched, but Scavenger completely out-maneuvers and overpowers a Mini-Con-enhanced Cyclonus. Moments later, when the battle nears a chasm, Scavenger is abruptly missing in action, leaving Hot Shot to reconsider his previous faith in his instructor.

The battle continues, with Optimus and Megatron moving ever closer to the deep chasm, while Scavenger doesn't respond to any calls for him. Back at the Autobot base, Alexis spots Scavenger on the video broadcast from Laserbeak.

Megatron is ready to finish Optimus when Optimus surprises the Decepticon by ejecting his own legs and grabbing hold of Megatron in a move apparently designed to plunge both warriors into the chasm. But before Optimus can plummet heroically to his and Megatron's mutual doom, Scavenger leaps off the other side of the canyon and, in mid-air, manages to fling Optimus to safety.

When the kids express their amazement at how much faith Optimus places in Scavenger, Red Alert patiently explains that Optimus and Scavenger came to trust each other long ago on Cybertron. Why didn't Red Alert enlighten them earlier? For suspense, of course. Red Alert also points out that Scavenger never really switched sides; he was only on the Decepticon side to gain needed strategic information.

While Red Alert schools the kids, on the battlefield, the Autobots take some time to taunt the outnumbered Decepticons. As the Decepticons consider their less-than-ideal situation, Sideways and Megatron emerge dramatically from the chasm, and Sideways sends Megatron flying directly at Scavenger. Unfortunately for the airborne Decepticon leader, Optimus is quick to protect Scavenger and blasts Megatron away. Megatron swears vengeance as the Decepticons beat a hasty retreat.

The battle at last concluded, Smokescreen and Hot Shot tender their apologies to Scavenger, who graciously accepts.
* While Crumplezone is Cyclonus's regular Mini-Con, in this case he Powerlinks with Drill Bit, but still calls out Crumplezone's name. Cyclonus is the only Armada toy with a "gear-gimmick" that lets him take full advantage of Drill Bit's drill mechanism, but not in the fashion Cyclonus wears Drill Bit in this episode.
* Shortly before teleporting away, Megatron mentions Optimus's treachery, when context suggests that he meant Scavenger.
* The Autobots again seem confused as to where the Decepticon base is, despite the fact that Hot Shot was THERE 2 episodes ago.

Miscellaneous trivia
* During the flashbacks, Optimus is seen using a gun similar in design to Generation 1 Optimus Prime's. The character model seen during these scenes resembles that of his Robots in Disguise counterpart
* Unlike previous episodes, the Autobots' fridge is no longer full of tools.
*This episode is featured on Rhino's "Flashbacks" compilation DVD alongside Prehistory and parts I and II of Past.
