It should be little surprise, given a moment's thought, that distinct Cybertronian languages exist. The Transformers did not go about speaking English or any other known Earth language long ages ago on their distant metal world. Though the records of such conversations are frequently translated for us, we should not forget that these conversations originally flowed in odd electronic syllables past strange metallic lips, or were etched by alien hands long eons before the first humans painted muddy shapes upon dark cave stone.

Fiction
Generation 1
Marvel Comics
Runamuck and Runabout sprayed Cybertronian grafitti across Earth monuments. Decepticon Graffiti!

Animated series
The first language used by the Transformers was likely the Quintesson language inherited from their former masters. It can be seen upon the walls of the Quintesson dimensional transporter room. It rather resembles Egyptian heiroglyphs. Madman's Paradise

Ancient Autobot was the language used by the ancient Autobot colonists that fled Cybertron in the distant past. Most modern Transformers (or at least the Decepticons) could not read it. Cosmic Rust (episode)

The controls of the Plasma Energy Chamber were labeled in Ancient Cybertronian, which Spike Witwicky did not recognize but Cerebros was able to read. The Rebirth, Part 1

In contrast, the language used by the Autobots when they first awoke in 1984 was easily learned. Spike Witwicky learned to read Modern Autobot after only knowing the Transformers for a single day More Than Meets the Eye, Part 2

Cybertronix is the name of the modern written language of the Maximals during the Beast Era. Whether this is the same language spoken on Cybertron during earlier portions of the Generation 1 continuity or at all similar to that written and spoken aloud in the live action Transformers Movie is unknown. As it is specifically referred to as the "modern written language," it seems likely that there were other Cybertronian languages, with other names, at some point in the past. The computers on the Chromia 10 label displayed planets in Cybertronix. Razor's Edge

:(NOTE: Although the name was never given canonically until Razor's Edge, Cybertronix was the name Larry DiTillio and/or Bob Forward gave to the language used by their characters in Beast Wars, as first stated in a post to alt.toys.transformers on January 1, 1997 . This post indicates that Cybertronix is the name of the spoken language as well as the written, and that both the Maximals and Predacons speak it.)

Beast Machines
While in the big floating head, Megatron took to addressing people as a hologram composed of Cybertronian symbols, possibly Cybertronix. The symbols took the form of a big floating head. Real original there, Megs.

Robots in Disguise
Unicron Trilogy
Transformers (2007) movie
Rather unique to this continuity, several Transformers (notably Optimus Prime and Megatron) have Cybertronian words etched onto their heads, near the cheek area. What they say is anyone's guess (Would have been a darn good question to float around at Botcon though). The All Spark was covered in Cybertronian glyphs, leading Sector Seven to conclude a connection between the All Spark and Megatron. Additionally, cometary forms are covered in Cybertronian "tribal markings".

The Decepticons communicate in actual Cybertronian (which to human ears appears to be a collection of electronic sounds) when speaking among themselves on Earth, but have learned enough English to communicate with the humans when necessary. The crew members of the vessel Ghost 1 thought that one could make out words if they had a degree in theoretical physics...and were tripping on bad acid. Transformers: Ghosts of Yesterday

(The written version of Cybertronian appears now and again throughout the film, most obviously during Decepticon dialogue, where the subtitles are displayed in Cybertronian briefly before translating to English.)

It is also worth noting that this is the first time in media that Transformers are seen speaking their own language. In previous continuities they all spoke English.

The space bridge appears in several Transformer continuities. The exact properties of the space bridge vary, but typically they serve as a more convenient means of moving Transformers from one planet to another than the traditional means of space travel.

Space bridges are nonetheless distinct from Transwarp, in that their primary function is movement through space, not time, though the time taken to traverse a space bridge seems to depend on the technology used.

Generation 1 Cartoon
The space bridge was apparently first conceived by Shockwave in 1984, as a means of transport back to Cybertron for the Decepticons stranded on Earth, and to allow them to ferry energon cubes to revitalize the planetTransport to Oblivion.

The Cybertronic end of the space bridge is a fixture in Shockwave's command center, where it takes the form of a cylindrical tube, the top of which projects outside of the center's dome; it is through this open end that transportees enter or depart amid a gyser of energy. The Earth-based end of the space bridge is decidedly more flexible - the Decepticons frequently constructed new space bridges in various locations, normally in the form of large metal rings.

In early uses of the space bridge, the dimensional portal could only remain open and stable for a maximum of 11 minutes. Early Space Bridge travel likewise proved somewhat unstable, and required the use of a small vehicle to safely transport any cargo. The vehicle was rolled into the ring on a railed structure, and then had to be piloted along "a beam of light." Some Decepticons displayed pronounced horror at being chosen for this unenviable task, as not staying on the light beam would cause the pilot and cargo to "cease to exist".Divide and Conquer In the very first practice run of the mechanism, the villains opted to use the captive Spike Witwicky, rather than risk any of their number.

After being knocked into the bridge by accident, Megatron proved able to traverse the bridge without a craft. Transport to Oblivion Several Autobots likewise survived the trip in their vehicle forms. Divide and Conquer After this, the need for the craft seems to have been removed, as many Transformers and various cargoes would travel by space bridge with no vessel and no difficulties. On one occasion, two humans in a convertible even made the trip with no ill effects. Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 1 The process could, however, still go wrong, as it did when the Decepticons attempted to convert a baseball field into a new space bridge site, and a malfunction blasted a small group of Transformers to an alien world of giants.Child's Play (episode)

It's never made clear exactly how the space bridge works. Typical activation sequences show what appears to be a dimensional portal in the sky above the bridge, opened up by a blast of energy from the bridge ring; the bridge's contents (along with a great deal of rock and detritus) were then drawn into the portal, which then closed with a large discharge of energy. On the Cybertron end, the arrival is marked by a beam or gusher of energy arriving from deep space.

The space bridge technology was taken to its ultimate extent when the Decepticons constructed three colossal pylons that would generate a "space pyramid", the apex of which extended to Cybertron's location in another galaxy. Using this, Cybertron was transported into Earth's orbit for a brief period. The Ultimate Doom, Part 1 Cybertron was later removed from Earth's orbit by an explosion; though never explicitly addressed, this event by rights should have left Cybertron much closer to Earth, possibly accounting for the ease of travel between the two planets thereafter. The Ultimate Doom, Part 3

The space bridge was used for planetary transportation once more when the Combaticon Onslaught wired his missile guidance systems into it and used its powers to redirect the orbit of Earth, intending to send it spiraling into the sun, only to be stopped by an Autobot-Decepticon team-up.The Revenge of Bruticus

The space bridge fell into disuse when the Autobots reclaimed Cybertron in 2005, and throughout 2006, both they and the Decepticons were shown to rely on more mundane means of space travel (shuttles, self-propelled flight) in addition to space bridge-like devices called "warp gates" located throughout space.Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5

Headmasters
By the year 2011, the Autobots had studied and duplicated the space bridge technology for their own use. They developed their own space bridge network, allowing transport between Cybertron, Earth and the planet Athenia, with fixed space bridge receptors in each base (the transport beam was, of course, now the traditional Autobot orange, as opposed to the Decepticons' iconic purple). They did not, however, destroy the original Decepticon space bridge, as the Decepticons were unable to use it to travel to the planet due to Vector Sigma maintaining an Autobot balance of power. This proved to be a mistake, however, when the Matrix's energy was released in 2010 to cure the Hate Plague; this caused Vector Sigma to become destabilized, and the Decepticons were able to exploit this to use the space bridge to invade Cybertron.

When Mars was destroyed by Scorponok, the gravimetric balance of the solar system was disrupted, making space bridge travel to Earth unstable. This soon ceased to be an issue, however, when the Decepticons headed off on an interplanetary energy raid; in order to slow the Autobots down, Sixshot destroyed the Earth-based space bridge, causing a chain reaction that detonated the entire network.

(Note: The destruction of the space bridge left the only means to travel to Earth as the Trainbots and Battleship Maximus. After the Headmasters series, this reduced ability to travel to Earth is one of the reasons for the heavy human involvement in the following series, Masterforce, since Transformers are mostly unable to join the battle on Earth themselves.

Marvel Comics
(Note: Events from the UK-only comic stories are in italics.)

The space bridge was built by Lord Straxus' Cybertronic Decepticons, in response to the discovery that Megatron's lost group of Decepticons were alive and had set up operations on Earth. The bridge, which resembles a normal Earthen suspension bridge when not in use, has two halves; one which which remains stationary on Cybertron, and another which teleports to Earth. Passing through the bridge's central arch transports objects across vast distances, instantly and painlessly. Although a properly functioning space bridge is a far more pleasant mode of transportation than the more fuel-efficient Autobot version, the Trans-Time Dimensional Portal, an improperly calibrated space bridge will annihilate any object or being who attempts to pass through its arch. Lord Straxus illustrated this fact when Blaster sent him over the edge during transit.

The original space bridge was built from the vast body of Spanner, a neutral scientist who had been captured by Straxus's forces and forced to design the Bridge. After the space bridge was almost completely destroyed, a new Bridge was built to replace it.

Robots in Disguise
In the Robots in Disguise cartoon, the Autobots used a complex network of hidden tunnels, bridges, and most notably, transwarp portals to travel to any location on Earth in a matter of minutes. This was called the Global Space Bridge in the English dub, and the Cybertron Network in Japan.

It was based on the Autobot Road from the original Fight! Super Robot Life Transformer manga. And, thanks to some skull-splitting retcons, the Cybertron Network actually is the Autobot Road. Yeah.

Dreamwave Continuity
The space bridge was developed by the Decepticons as a means of exploring (and presumably conquering) other worlds far away from Cybertron. These bridges were <strike>stargates</strike> small portals that could only be programmed for a certain number of people. Megatron himself underwent the first test of the space bridge. However, Optimus Prime collided with him before he entered. As it had been only programmed to accept one, the space bridge exploded, and both leaders were presumed dead. The War Within: The Dark Ages In actuality, they had survived, and been transported to Quintessa, where they remained for several millennia. The War Within: The Age of Wrath

Unicron Trilogy
Space bridges are the main mode of traveling in the Unicron Trilogy. Unlike their Generation 1 counterparts, they do not appear to need the use of a fixed device at both ends.

They appear to change in variation from series to series, although this is likely simply due to art direction. In Armada, the Transformers are 'stretched' into warp gates, while in Energon and Cybertron, space bridges tend to appear as a large hole in the sky that may or may not have a clear ramp leading into it.

2007 Movie
There is a network of space bridge terminals scattered across the galaxy, with the furthest from Cybertron being the Mars terminal, constructed by Thundercracker while the other Decepticons were on Earth. The Reign of Starscream issue 2

Animated
Space bridges in Transformers Animated are used to travel around the galaxy. (No surprise.) In the series, the All Spark was thrown into one to keep it out of Decepticon hands. Optimus Prime and his small band of Autobots were put in charge of repairing space bridges.

These and the AllSpark were apparently the key to the Autobots winning The Great War, and Megatron plans to use some schematics to build his own with some help. The Elite Guard

Transwarp is the general name for the technology that the spacecraft in the Beast Wars use to power their flights through space and time. A transwarp engine, like those aboard the Maximal's Axalon and the Predacon's Darksyde, runs on transwarp cells. Each engine uses a number of smaller cells. The cells can also be removed and used individually on smaller craft such as shuttles and stasis pods.

Each transwarp engine also generates its own transwarp signature that can be used to track its movements or pin down its current location.

Additionally, transwarp shunt technology allows a traveler to move through space and time without a ship. Instead, the traveler simply stands upon a platform to be transported to the desired place and time. The platform is not transported along with he traveler, so if he wishes to return, there must be another transwarp shunt device on the other end, or he must bring along the parts to build one.
Beast Wars
Beast Wars cartoon
As part of a scheme to change history and allow the Decepticons to win the Great War, Megatron used a transwarp-capable ship (the Darksyde) to travel to Earth during the Ark's dormancy. Optimus Primal and his crew followed in the Axalon to stop Megatron.
Magmatron used a transwarp shunt to travel to the middle of Megatron's and Optimus Primal's Beast War in order to capture Maximal protoforms. As an additional prize for his masters, he intended to send Megatron back to Cybertron, but was tricked by Razorbeast and Optimus Minor, causing Magmatron himself to be sent back instead.
Synopsis
Part 1
Somewhere along the outer rim of the galaxy, a contingent of Autobots led by Rodimus Prime defends a space bridge against the Decepticons' "Team Chaar", led by Strika. She, Oil Slick and Cyclonus strafe Brawn, Ironhide and Hot Shot, badly injuring Hot Shot's leg and forcing team medic Red Alert to perform an amputation. Before she can do so, however, she is swallowed up by Spittor, who explosively vomits her back at her team. Rodimus contacts the Elite Guard for backup, but the Autobot forces are spread much too thin, defending space bridges from Decepticon attacks all across the galaxy. Oil Slick and Cyclonus proceed to take down Brawn and Ironhide, leaving Rodimus on his own, at which point Blackout arrives and all but finishes the fight with a huge electromagnetic pulse. Rodimus still has some fight left in him, but it drains away when Oil Slick offlines him with a vial of Cosmic Rust. Strika contacts Shockwave on Cybertron, who informs her that nobody is to TransWarp to the planet until Megatron himself arrives. But Megatron was supposed to be there megacycles ago...

Off in the depths of space, the disembodied head of Starscream attempts to remove Megatron's stasis cuffs with his teeth as the Decepticon leader berates him all the while. As Starscream begins bellowing back at Megatron, the AllSpark fragment in his forehead begins to glow, and he undergoes a surprising transformation: his mouth converts into a sonic blaster that shoots the cuffs clean off Megatron's wrists. There is no time for the two villains to celebrate, however, as the giant form of Omega Supreme materializes above them. But after a moment, Megatron realizes that the colossus is offline...

On Earth, as the Autobots return to Detroit, Professor Sumdac explains Sari's origins to her as best he can, revealing that he discovered her in his laboratory years ago, in the form of a small, liquid metal robot. Sari finds the story hard to believe, and her strained patience reaches its end when the group returns to Sumdac Tower and confronts Porter C. Powell and Henry Masterson. When the two men refuse to vacate the premises, Sari's hands transform into energy projectors that hurl the villains to the building's elevator. This newest revelation pushes Sari over the edge, and she walks out on the man she can no longer even think of as her father, returning to the Autobots' base with her "fellow robots". While Ratchet examines Sari—deducing that she's basically human, but partially Cybertronian—Prowl departs to carry out some research of his own. With Ratchet lost in his memories of Arcee, Bumblebee and Bulkhead head back to the Decepticons' destroyed mine base to salvage some equipment that will let them contact Cybertron and inform the Autobots there of the traitor in their midst.

On a small planetoid somewhere in space, Blurr is still trapped in a cement blob with Starscream's egomaniacal and cowardly clones. Blurr proposes using sonic pulses to dissolve the glue, and the egomaniac takes the idea for his own and successfully frees them. Blurr immediately speeds off, launching into space and literally running across the galaxy, ricocheting off everything in his path (including the egomaniac) to get back to Cybertron and inform the Elite Guard of Megatron's invasion plan.

Megatron and Starscream force their way into Omega Supreme's body, but this action brings the giant Autobot back online, and his internal systems immediately seize the Decepticons. Megatron exploits Omega's simple processor and convinces him to take him back to Cybertron "to face justice". Omega transforms back into ship mode and TransWarps off toward Cybertron.

Back on Earth, Bumblebee and Bulkhead are searching through the ruins of the mine when Bumblebee discovers a plasmadynamic thruster space bridge component that abruptly TransWarps him away. While Bulkhead is wondering where his buddy went, he is suddenly attacked by Henry Masterson, who recovered his Headmaster unit and Starscream's headless body from the mine the night before.

At Sumdac Tower, Prowl shadows Sumdac into his laboratory, and quickly accesses his computers and scans the scientist in an attempt to learn more about Sari's origins. Ratchet is having distinctly less luck back at the Autobot base, where Sari refuses to let him perform an exploratory surgery. The whole unpleasant affair reminds Ratchet of his past on Cybertron, when he performed open-processor surgery on Arcee, and discovered she was carrying the codes that were key to the creation of Omega Supreme. Prime snaps Ratchet out of his flashback with the news that he cannot contact Bumblebee and Bulkhead, and Ratchet heads out to the mine to investigate.

With the other Autobots busy, Optimus Prime tries to patch up the Sumdac family feud by surreptitiously opening a comm channel to Professor Sumdac's laboratory and explaining loudly and at length to Sari that he is going to take her to Burger Bot. Sumdac catches on and heads out to meet them there, but Sari is furious at being set up and refuses to talk to him. Unfortunately, the Headmaster soon arrives, having picked up Prime's phone call through bugs left in Sumdac Tower, and threatens to unleash t0t47 pwN4ge!
Notes
Animation errors
* The damage to Starscream's body disappears during the commercial break.
* When Ratchet is talking to Bumblebee about Sari's condition, the side of his head is miscolored white.
* When Sari removes her key in order to place it in the homing beacon generator, the string doesn't actually go over her head... It just phases through her neck. Somehow.
* Once the key has been removed from Sari, the string attached to it mysteriously reappears.

Continuity errors
* When Bumblebee gets blown away in Part 1 after being stabbed by Sari, he lands on his back. When it starts again in Part 2, he appears on his side.
* Bumblebee’s rocket boosters seemingly appear out of nowhere. Maybe he had just stored them in his backpack?
*Sentinel is back in his Earth body, despite reverting to his original in "Autoboot Camp".

Transformers references
*As Sari dismisses Isaac Sumdac's story of her origin, she suggests that he should have told her how he found her "in a cabbage patch", or the "stork brought me". These same ideas were suggested by Professors Bumblebee and Bulkhead in "Return of the Headmaster".
*After Sari mentions those theories, Optimus Prime recalls how Sari told him of human manufacturing, which occurred in "Transform and Roll Out".
*While lecturing her on taking it slow with her powers, Ratchet says that there's "more than meets the vis-scanners" on having powers, a clear reference to the time honored Transformers tagline "More Than Meets the Eye."
*Bar Oil Slick, every member of the new squads harkens back to a previous series. Rodimus, Ironhide, Brawn and Cyclonus are heavily based off their Generation One counterparts. Red Alert and Hot Shot take after their Unicron Trilogy incarnations. Spittor and Strika are both modeled after Beast Era characters and Blackout's design is heavily influenced by the live action movie version.
*Starscream says Omega Supreme is "more powerful than I imagined... okay, it's no AllSpark...", in reference to his use of the same phrase to describe the AllSpark in "Transform and Roll Out!" (Except in "Transform and Roll Out!" he added an ever after I.).
*Arcee's open head is based off of one of the covers for IDW Publishing's "Spotlight: Arcee", which in turn was based upon a scene in Akira.fact
*Blurr races along a Saturn-style planetary ring, as his namesake had done in the Generation 1 season 3 opening credits.
*The building in which the Autobot Elite Guard have their meeting looks somewhat familiar.

Real-world references
Miscellaneous trivia
*Derrick J. Wyatt confirmed via. Twitter after the show aired that it was made "as one 70 minute movie", although it was also cut into 22-minute episodes for syndication.
*Ultra Magnus builds a living WMD and makes him purposefully stupid so he won't question his lot in life. Optimus considers throwing an overloading Sari at said death machine in the hopes that if the kid blows, she'll take it with her. Damn.
