'''Omega Supreme''' is one of the [[Scale|largest Autobots there is]]. He isn't much for words, preferring his massive frame and equally massive weapons to do the talking for him. Omega is the last line of defense for the Autobots, a titanic guardian robot capable of instilling fear and panic into the [[spark]]s of [[Decepticons]] that dare face him on the field of battle.

Except [[Buzzsaw (G1)|Buzzsaw]]. Kill that little guy, it just makes him angry.
:''Voice actor:'' [[Jack Angel]] (US), [[Tesshō Genda]] (Japan)
Omega was one of the many Autobots who just showed up during the second season. Unlike most, however, he was actually given an origin.

[[Image:Robo-Smasher and Omega Supreme.jpg|thumb|left|Et tu, Robo-Smasher?]]

Omega Supreme is the last surviving member of the legendary [[Guardian Robots]], the massive neutral defenders of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. While he was defending the [[Crystal City]], he befriended the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicon]]s, the city's creators. However, as it would happen, the Constructicons were attacked by [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]'s [[Robo-Smasher]] and converted into Decepticons. The now-evil Constructicons convinced Omega to leave his post to help defend another city, and promised to look after the city in his stead. When he left, they demolished the Crystal City to Omega Supreme's horror. He captured them and tried to change the builders back into Autobots, but the process was irreversible and the treacherous Constructicons lured Omega into an ambush by the Smasher. The Robo-Smasher attacked Omega, but it was destroyed before it could convert him. Omega later recounts, "I lived, but, changed. Since then, I feel only hate for the Constructicons." It is thus possible that Omega's cold, emotionless demeanor -- quite different than he behaved before the destruction of the Crystal City -- is a direct result of the Robo-Smasher's work. However, it may also be that he has merely retreated into himself and become withdrawn because of the pain of betrayal and guilt.

[[Image:Secretomegachatinwoods.jpg|right|thumb|150px|Storytime: informative.]]

Some time after these events transpired, the Constructicons left Cybertron in a starship for unknown reasons. Omega Supreme pursued them, "for millions of years, across the galaxies", until they finally arrived on Earth and were reunited with Megatron. He got his chance at revenge when the Constructicons started mining an asteroid that turned out to be the egg of an [[Asteroid bird alien|organic creature]]. Omega left the creature to its own devices, which would have resulted in it devouring [[San Francisco]]. However, [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] convinced Omega to lead the creature back to its asteroid, which would sustain it. Omega lost his chance at revenge, but he did his duty. {{Storylink|The Secret of Omega Supreme}}

In 1985, the Autobots used Omega Supreme to follow the Decepticons back to Cybertron when they intended to use [[Vector Sigma]] to create a new group of Decepticon warriors. After failing to stop the Decepticons from creating the [[Stunticon]]s, the Autobots created a new team of their own to counter the new threat, the [[Aerialbot]]s. As Omega Supreme escaped Cybertron, he was hit by weapons fire from the [[Centurion droid]]s, and once he safely disembarked his passengers on Earth, he catastrophically exploded. {{Storylink|The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 1}}

[[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] and [[Sparkplug Witwicky]] connected Omega Supreme's mind to the ''[[Ark]]'s'' life support unit while they set about putting the giant back together. The arrogant Aerialbots, unimpressed with both the Autobots and the humans they protected, refused to help their comrades in defeating the Decepticons until their group leader [[Silverbolt (G1)|Silverbolt]] showed them how Sparkplug was able to disregard his fatigue and continue repairing Omega Supreme simply because of his concern for a friend's well being. Soon afterwards, the Aerialbots were facing defeat as [[Superion (G1)|Superion]] at the hands of the Stunticon combined form, [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]], when the newly-repaired Omega Supreme suddenly appeared and helped them defeat the combiner and send the Decepticons packing. {{Storylink|The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2}}
In season 3 his role as space transport was fulfilled by [[Sky Lynx]]. He was last seen in season 3 transporting Autobots to Junkion to investigate the strange behaviour of the Junkions. He got shot down by [[Cyclonus]], [[Scourge]] and the [[Sweeps]] crashing the Autobots on an asteroid. After being repaired Omega quickly turned the tide of the battle. On arriving on Junkion Omega again battled the Decepticons. He was knocked down by a blast from Galvatron's cannon mode but recovered and battled the Decepticons until Blaster asked him to bring him to altitude to counter the Quintesson signals.{{Storylink|The Big Broadcast of 2006}}.
Omega rarely spoke, and then it was usually just two or three words. This is by choice, however, as he can speak normally if prompted.

===Marvel Comics continuity===
{{note|Sections in italics are from Marvel UK.}}

[[Image:Omega_comics.jpg|thumb|left|200px|I... AM DARKWING DUCK!]]

Omega Supreme was built by the Autobots on [[Earth]] in order to guard the ''[[Ark (G1)|Ark]]'' while they were away. With Omega completed, the Autobots could leave the base en masse to attack the Decepticons. [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] immediately took advantage of the situaiton by ordering [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]], [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]], [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]], [[Rumble]], [[Buzzsaw (G1)|Buzzsaw]], and [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] to attack the ''Ark''. Unfortunately, they didn't get the memo about the Autobots' new defense system, and Omega Supreme easily took out all of them except Laserbeak, who managed to escape with a wounded Megatron back to the Decepticons. {{storylink|Command Performances!}}

''Early on in the first Galvatron encounter, the Autobots openly talked about siccing Omega Supreme on the Decepticons. And then '''never did so''', despite it being a smart idea and knowing it was an option.'' {{storylink|Target 2006}}

[[Image:Omegasupreme-blasterandgrimlock.jpg|thumb|right|200px|Size: indeterminate.]]

Though Omega Supreme continued to guard the Ark, he didn't seem to stay [[Scale|quite as huge]] as he used to be. He could soon fit into the Ark. {{storylink|Funeral for a Friend}} When Trypticon attacked, he carpeted the entrance to the ''Ark'' with sonic scrambler mines, disabling Omega and the other Autobots within; Omega was thus unable to square off against the giant. {{storylink|King of the Hill!}} Later, Omega Supreme acted as a sort of Master of Ceremonies when Blaster and Grimlock were due to fight it out for Autobot leadership on the moon. He was pretty small. {{storylink|Totaled!}}

During the [[Underbase]] crisis, the narrator seemed to think it was bad news when [[Buzzsaw (G1)|Buzzsaw]] cannon-blasted Omega Supreme - and Omega [[:Image:Buzzsawyikes4.jpg|''actually seemed to be getting knocked over'']]. He didn't live long enough to be embarrassed, as shortly after the Underbase-powered Starscream killed him. {{storylink|Dark Star}} Pieces of him were seen in Ratchet's repair bay, but he was never shown to be functional again. {{storylink|Back from the Dead!}}
{{-}}

===Dreamwave comics continuity===

Some time after the departure of the ''Ark'', Omega Supreme and [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]] were sent out to go find them. They ultimately ended up buried under Antarctica on Earth. Millions of years later, Jetfire remotely reactivated Omega Supreme in an attempt to defeat [[Sunstorm (G1)|Sunstorm]]. Though Omega Supreme was initially successful, Sunstorm managed to obscure his vision. When Omega Supreme retracted his visor in order to see, Sunstorm blasted him right in the face with a burst of solar radiation, instantly knocking him off line. {{storylink|The Omega Effect}} He soon recovered, but Sunstorm had escaped. Omega later helped the Autobots in building [[Autobot City]]. {{storylink|The Route of All Evil}}

===IDW comics continuity===

[[Image:OmegaSupreme_SpotlightPrime.jpg|thumb|right|150px|Privacy: Requested. Discharge: Imminent.]]

Omega Supreme is largely a non-participant in the war between the Autobots and Decepticons. Predating the notion of factions and having survived two [[Prime (rank)|Primes]], he remains in seclusion in a specially-shielded artificial asteroid within the [[Muta-Gaath Nebula]]. Though nominally allied with the Autobots, he remains outside of the conflict for fear of escalating it due to the firepower he commands. Instead, he exists as a resource to Primes in times of doubt. However, he did participate in the Autobot/Decepticon battle to stop [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]], alongside [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], and [[Trypticon]]. {{storylink|Stormbringer issue 1}}

Omega Supreme is one of the few living Transformers to remember the first ''[[Ark (G1)|Ark]]''. Believing that the Transformer race should exercise a slow inner growth through intellectual contemplation, he frequently clashed with the expansionist [[Nova Prime]], who felt Cybertron's destiny lay in the conquest of other worlds. After the ''Ark''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s departure and Nova Prime's disappearance, Omega Supreme discovered a horrific creation of theirs: [[Monstructor]]. He sealed the gestalt in a dimensionally-displaced prison to prevent it from devastating Cybertron and escalating the burgeoning conflict. Centuries later, Optimus Prime came to him for advice. While the two were talking, Monstructor — somehow freed from captivity — attacked. Omega Supreme told Optimus Prime the truth about himself, Nova Prime, and Monstructor. Though Optimus Prime succeeded in defeating the gestalt, he condemned Omega Supreme for attempting to play god by simply locking them away.

As he was defeated very easily by a single gestalt, this version of Omega is either considerably weaker than others, or the gestalts are considerably ''stronger'' in this [[continuity]] (Omega seems to believe the latter). {{Storylink|Spotlight: Optimus Prime}}
*'''Omega Supreme''' (1985, 2008)
**''Accessories:'' 2 small shields, 2 medium shields, 2 large shields, 4 armour halves (A, B, C, D), 4 ankle half (E, F, G, H), 2 feet, backpack, 4 tracks (J, K, L, M)

[[Image:G1OmegaSupreme_toy.jpg|left|thumb|200px|Fragility: unappreciated.]]

:Omega Supreme transforms into a three individual components simultaneously: a large rocket base, a rocket and a tank. Not unlike the [[Seeker]]s, whose toys involve minimal actual transformation, and more "pull all the bits off and put them back on in different ways," Omega Supreme involves next to no actual manipulation of his parts, "transforming" instead by being disassembled into his component pieces, which are then put back together in a different configuration.

:Omega's distinctive forearms (his left a large cannon, his right a large three-fingered claw) disconnect from his arms at the elbow and plug together end-on-end to form the rocket. His legs are comprised of quite a few independent parts — the outer casing of each one is a "shell" made up of two pieces held together by three sliding yellow clips, concealing two further "shell" pieces which clip around his leg proper, and are held together by his foot. All of these parts are removed and reassembled to form the "core" of the rocket base, which is completed with the addition of Omega's backpack and feet as a gantry for the rocket to stand astride, and his wings (made up of six individual pieces themselves, which can be assembled in various configurations) as an ovular track that encircles the whole affair. This leaves Omega's torso, which then undergoes some actual transformation to become a tank that rests on the track. The torso features a battery-operated motor which propels the tank around the track as its turret spins and flashes with orange light, or allows Omega to walk (very slowly) forward in robot mode. This motor is extremely susceptible to failure.

:Omega Supreme was one of several toys licensed by [[Hasbro]] from manufacturers other than [[Takara]] — specifically, from Toy Box, an origin he shares with [[Sky Lynx]]. As a consequence, Omega Supreme was never released in Japan under the ''Transformers'' brand during the original 1980s run.

:However, in January 2008 Takaratomy announced that Omega Supreme will be a part of their [[Transformers Encore]] ''Generation 1'' [[reissue]] line in June, which will mark his first-ever release in Japan.

:As an [[Action Master Elite]], Omega Spreem is one of the few figures in the [[Action Master]] line that can actually transform to some extent, in this case transforming into a Cybertronian tank, though the 'transformation' itself merely consists of him bending over. A button on back of the tank turret, when pressed, spins the front half of the turret. In robot mode, he carries the front of his tank as a treaded gun.

:Omega Spreem, as with the other Action Master Elites, was only released in Europe and Australasia.

:Omega Supreme was released as a statue in 2008 by Diamond Select Toys. He was sculpted by Mark Wong of Art Asylum and limited to 1,000 pieces.

{{-}}

==Trivia==
*Originally, Omega Supreme was going to be named [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]], due to Hasbro wanting to use the name on something.

*Omega Supreme's name could be translated as "Last of the Best"; given his role as the "last line of defense", this is appropriate.

*Omega Supreme can seemingly launch his rocket into space, leaving the remaining parts behind at his launch base, and then transform fully back to robot mode even though a good number of his body parts are separated from the rocket by a good planetary diameter or two (if not several light years). Indeed, sometimes his rocket mode is seen to be inexplicably landing on his base mode which is already waiting at his destination, leading some to speculate that Omega (rather implausibly) has duplicate body parts on some other planets, "just in case". Some [[Fanon|fanon]] alternatively holds that in cases such as these Omega's non-rocket parts actually use [[Size changing|size-changing technology]] to shrink down and travel as cargo inside his rocket mode, which are then disgorged and enlarged before landing. Whatever helps you sleep at night...

*Omega Spreem (the name of Omega Supreme's Action Master Elite form) is actually one possible transliteration of the Katakana (i.e. Japanese) version of "Omega Supreme". Thus it is probably a typo resulting from the name "Omega Supreme" going from English to Japanese, and then back to English again. ''[[Romanization|Well]]''.

Across all continuities, '''Optimus Prime dies a lot.''' This happens for various reasons:
* It allows for him to be replaced by [[Hot Rod|a new character]] (and thus [[To sell toys|a new toy]]).
* It allows for him to come back from the dead in a new body (again, a new toy).
* It's dramatic.
* It makes him into something of a [[Jesus|Christ]]-figure.

Some examples:

==''The Transformers: The Movie''==
[[Image: DeadPrime.gif|left|thumb|200px|[[Wikipedia:Oscar Wilde#Release_and_death|"Either that wallpaper goes, or I do."]]]]
* The best-known example is from ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'', in which [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] dies of wounds from his battle with [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]. Famously, his body turns gray as he dies. ([[Misconceptions and urban legends about Transformers|Urban legend]] says his body also ''crumbles,'' but no such footage is known to exist.) Being the first time he died, it was actually unexpected.
{{-}}

==Generation 1 Season 3==
[[Image:Optimusg1zombie.jpg|right|thumb|200px|"I eat ur brainzzzZ!"]]
* He returns from the dead twice, first as a zombie in "[[Dark Awakening]]"—which ends with him dying again—and then (for reals, yo) in "[[The Return of Optimus Prime]]".
{{-}}

==The Headmasters==
* In ''[[The Headmasters (cartoon)|The Headmasters]]'', Optimus Prime was killed again when he tried to bring [[Vector Sigma]] back under control in "[[A Dream Is Born, Double Prime]]". His body turned gray as he died. He was later resurrected and evolved into Star Convoy by the power of [[Zodiac]] in ''[[Return of Convoy]]''.

==Generation 1 Marvel Comics==
[[Image:Pmoptimusprimedeath.jpg|right|thumb|200px|"I swear, I was wearing my faceplate when I left the house this morning."]]
In the Marvel continuity, dying and coming back was practically a ''hobby'' for Prime.

*In "[[Afterdeath!]]", Prime, after failing to live up to his moral principles while playing a video game, volunteers to be killed. The [[Autobots]] launch his funeral bier into space. Fortunately, the creator of the video game, [[Ethan Zachary]], saves a backup copy of Prime's mind on a floppy. We first meet this virtual Prime sixteen issues later in "[[Pretender to the Throne!]]". He gets his new [[Powermaster]] body two issues thereafter, in "[[People Power!]]".

*About thirty issues later, Prime sacrifices himself to defeat [[Unicron]], in "[[On the Edge of Extinction!]]". However, his Powermaster partner, [[Hi-Q]], survives, and almost immediately begins babbling about how he's ''really'' Optimus Prime. This turns out to be true, and [[The Last Autobot]] metamorphoses Hi-Q into Prime (with a new [[Actionmaster]] body) in [[End of the Road! (Marvel US comic)|the last issue of the original Marvel US series]].

{{-}}
==Generation 2 Marvel Comics==
[[Image:Swarmoptimus.jpg|thumb|right|200px|Unleashing the light of the Matrix upon a great evil. ''Again.'']]

*This Prime wasn't done dying yet. His adventures continued in the G2 comics, and he died defeating the [[Swarm]] in the final issue of that series, "[[A Rage in Heaven!]]". The Swarm reconstituted him three pages later (in a body based on his then-current [[Combat Hero]] toy).
{{-}}

==Japanese Generation 2==
* In the Japanese version of ''Generation 2'', Optimus Prime was badly wounded by Megatron's [[fusion cannon]] and almost died, but was resurrected and evolved yet again, this time into [[Laser Rod]] Optimus Prime, by the power of the [[Creation Matrix|Matrix]].

==Beast Era==
[[Image:Smelt Prime.JPG|thumb|200px|right|Technically, he's still alive, ''but'' dying.]]
In ''[[Beast Wars (cartoon)|Beast Wars]]'' and ''[[Beast Machines (cartoon)|Beast Machines]],'' you could mark the end of a season by the near-death experience of one [[Optimus Primal|Optimus]] or [[Optimus Prime (G1)|another]]...

*At [[Other Voices, Part 2|the end of the first season]] of ''Beast Wars,'' [[Optimus Primal]] piloted a bomb-equipped stasis pod in an attempt to destroy the [[Planet Buster]]. Unfortunately, [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] had sealed the pod's hatch, and Optimus blew up with it. [[Coming of the Fuzors (Part 2)|Early in the second season]] (a few hours later as far as the characters were concerned), [[Rhinox]] managed to unite Optimus's drifting [[spark]] with a blank [[protoform]], thus bringing him back to life (and in a new [[Transmetal]] body, too).

*At [[The Agenda (Part III)|the end of second season]], the ''Beast Wars'' Megatron came very close to killing the original Optimus Prime. But [[Optimal Situation|Prime didn't ''quite'' die]], so we really shouldn't count it.

*At [[End of the Line|the end of the first season]] of ''Beast Machines,'' Optimus and Megatron had a cataclysmic battle, using the energies of [[Vector Sigma]] and the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]]. This would have destroyed [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], but Optimus took the warring energies into himself and disintegrated. However, his spark was trapped within the [[Oracle]], and the other [[Maximals]] convinced him to return to the real world at [[Fallout|the start of second season]]. The Oracle kindly gave him a new body (which, believe it or not, was ''not'' a new toy).

*At [[Endgame Pt. III: Seeds of the Future |the end of the series]], Optimus gave his life to defeat Megatron once and for all, pushing him into the [[technorganic]] core of the planet. In assorted ancillary media ([[universe (comic)|convention comics]], [[Beast Wars Reborn|text stories]]), he comes back to life yet again.
(Strangely, the end of the third season of ''Beast Wars'' had no Optimus deaths whatsoever! A half-dozen ''other'' characters died, but not Optimus. Bizzah.)

==Armada cartoon==
[[Image:Sshot-arm-39-4.jpg|right|thumb|150px|Now Optimus, don't go all to pieces. You say you have to split? Well, you're a chip off the ol' block.]]

* In the ''[[Armada (cartoon)|Armada]]'' episode "[[Crisis]]", [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] used his body to block the blast of [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]]'s [[Hydra Cannon]], protecting the [[Earth]]. When the cannon's energy is spent, we see Optimus turn grayish-white, then ''actually'' crumble to bits. A bunch of [[Mini-Cons]] use the [[Matrix]] to resurrect him [[Miracle|three episodes later]].

{{-}}
* The corpse of an [[Optimus Prime (Worlds Collide)|Optimus Prime]] (killed by Unicron) from an alternate universe appeared in the ''[[Armada (comic)|Armada]]'' comic issue titled "[[Worlds Collide, Part 1]]". Yep, practically all we know about this Optimus is that he died. He doesn't turn gray, but his colors are faded.

{{-}}
==Universe==
[[Image:Nemesisprimetfuclone.jpg|right|thumb|Technically, this is the clone.]]

* The corpse of an Optimus Prime (killed by [[Megazarak]]) from an alternate universe was cloned by Unicron to create [[Nemesis Prime (Universe)|Nemesis Prime]]. The clone, before he became Nemesis, appeared in ''[[Universe (comic)|Universe]]'' comic issue "[[Balancing Act, Part 2]]". Once again, practically all we know about this Optimus is that he died.

{{-}}
==Transformers Animated==
[[Image:TFAnimated_transformandrollout_DEATH.jpg|left|thumb|150px|Dead in the third episode for 75 seconds. It's a new record!]]
* In the third part of the ''[[Transformers Animated (cartoon)|Animated]]'' movie, "[[Transform and Roll Out!]]", [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]] dies after his battle with [[Starscream (Animated)|Starscream]]. Like the Generation 1 Prime before him, he turns gray upon dying. Seventy-five seconds later, [[Sari Sumdac]] uses her mysteeerious [[AllSpark (Animated)|AllSpark]] [[Sari Sumdac's Key|key]] to revive him.

Throughout the various Transformers canon, there have been several instances of Transformers with humanistic traits and having very human actions that possibly conflict with their status as mechanical robots. Many of these instances can be dismissed as stylistic choices by the artists or as gags not to be taken seriously.

==Glandular, digestive, and respiratory==
===Sweating===

* In [[DIS-Integrated Circuits|issue nine]] of the original [[Generation 1 (Marvel comic)|''Generation 1'' comic]], [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]] is seen leaking lubricant from his head during a stressful confrontation with [[Shockwave]] (as Shockwave points out), in a manner resembling sweating.

* Numerous times in the Marvel UK comic, [[Kup]] can be seen "sweating."

* ''[[Robots in Disguise (cartoon)|Robots in Disguise]]'' and ''[[Armada (cartoon)|Armada]]'' featured Transformers displaying the traditional anime "sweatdrop," a giant bead of liquid appearing at the side of the head to convey embarrassment or exasperation.

===Coughing===
* In the G1 episode [[Roll For It]], when the Autobots emerge from the ruins of a demolished [[antimatter]] laboratory, they are coughing.

* In Beast Wars, Megatron begins to cough for no reason while making a triumphant speech. Much like Powerglide's "heart", this could be a one-shot joke.

*In the episode [[Mortal Combat]] in Transformers Armada, right after Optimus Prime says "I wish I could accommodate you", he coughs silently.

===Breathing===
* When being constricted by a python, Cheetor says he can't breathe. {{storylink|Dark Voyage}}
* In an Energon episode, [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] instructs [[Ironhide (Energon)|Ironhide]] that they have to synchronize their breathing before they can [[Powerlinx|powerlink]].
* At the climax of ''[[Transformers: The Movie]]'', [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] tries to strangle [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]], complete with sounds of Hot Rod gagging and struggling to breathe.

===Spitting===

* Throughout his term on the Marvel UK comic letters page, [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] would regularly say "(Puttup)" after mentioning the Autobots or an Autobot's name to represent him spitting in disgust. This habit made an in-story appearance, with him spitting at [[Robot-Master]] despite his [[Mouthplate|mouthplate]].
* In issue 72 of the Marvel US comics, after [[Nightbeat]] escapes from the Decepticons's New Jersey base via a sewer, he spits as he complains about their poor choice of backdoor.
* In the ''[[Beast Wars (cartoon)|Beast Wars]]'' episode "[[Tangled Web]]", [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]] "spat" after reissuing his challenge to tangle with [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]], despite the fact that, like Soundwave, he has no apparent mouth.

===Crying===
* [[Image:Omega Supreme tears up.jpg|thumb|right|Tissue: desired.]]A twinkle of light that may not literally be a tear, but is clearly intended to imply one, can be seen in [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]]'s eye at the end of "[[The Secret of Omega Supreme]]".

* When [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] dies in ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'', [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] is seen to dab at her eyes.

* In [[The Burden Hardest to Bear]], [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] had tears falling from his eyes, presumably in pain, during his monstrous disfigurement after he gains the power of the [[Matrix]].

* As he mourns his dead friend [[Snowstalker]] and decides he can never fight again, [[Tigatron]] cries a single tear in beast mode.

* When pondering [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]]'s fate in ''[[Beast Machines]]'', [[Blackarachnia]] is shown to shed a single tear from one of her spider eyes.

* Throughout ''[[Beast Wars II (television series)|Beast Wars II]]'' and ''[[Robots in Disguise (franchise)|Robots in Disguise]]'', and occasionally in the ''[[Armada (cartoon)|Armada]]'' cartoon, several characters are seen crying in hyperbolic anime fashion.

*Tears can be seen welling up in [[Ironhide (Energon)|Ironhide]]'s eyes and falling to the ground in ''[[Energon (cartoon)|Energon]]'' as he mourns a fallen comrade.

*In [[Transformers Animated (cartoon)|Transformers: Animated]], [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]] cries, though this "ability" could be part of her partially organic nature. {{storylink|Along Came a Spider}}

===Eating===
*There are references to [[Cybertronian food]].
*In [[Beast Wars]], the Maximals and Predacons are shown to eat:
**[[Tarantulas]] even displays something of a voracious appetite, eating rats and leaving webs to catch prey. At one point he captures Cheetor and prepares to drain his fluids, claiming that it is the act he prefers over the nourishment (which adds just another level of creepy to the already creepy Tarantulas) {{storylink|The Web}}
**[[Rattrap]] eats apples. {{storylink|The Web}}
**[[Terrorsaur]] eats a bird. {{storylink|Power Surge}}
**[[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] ate a clone of his. [[Optimus Primal]] remarked that he was "disgusting". {{storylink|Double Dinobot}}
**While suffering from an [[Energon]] discharge virus, [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] eats wild beans to build up his power. This later ends disasterously for [[Megatron (BW)|Megs]]. {{storylink|The Low Road}}
*In [[Beast Machines]], [[Nightscream]] is shown eating what appears to be metallic apples. Boy's got some strong teeth. {{storylink|In Darkest Knight}}
*Also in Beast Machines, [[Optimus Primal]] wants to eat the underground tree's fruit; [[Cheetor]] protests that "we don't eat food, we process [[energon]]--PERIOD!", but is overruled. {{storylink|Forbidden Fruit}}

===Flatulence===

* In the ''[[Beast Wars (cartoon)|Beast Wars]]'' episode "[[The Low Road]]", Rhinox lets out an extreme amount of flatulence after consuming wild bean vines. This could be due to Maximals having organic parts in their makeup.
* Also in Beast Wars, In the episode "[[Bad Spark]]", [[Cheetor]] also lets out flatulence, blaming it on a large buildup of energy from his [[Transmetal]] body.

===Urination===
* [[Tasmania Kid]] urinated (in beast mode) to put out a fire.
* [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] performed a similar action on [[Agent Simmons]], by popping off his gas cap in robot mode. Optimus Prime claims that he was just "lubricating" him. Presumably, this action was inspired from witnessing a [[Mojo|similar incident]].
** To be honest, it looked less like a gas cap and more like a oil filter, for the part that actually came off and hit Simmons in the head anyways. Which would have made more sense, given that oil is a lubricant, and gas is a fuel.

===Intoxication===

* In the [[Generation 1 (cartoon)|G1 cartoon]] episode "[[Microbots]]", the [[Decepticons]] are noticeably behaving in an intoxicated fashion after consuming high-grade [[energon]]. [[Powerglide (G1)|Powerglide]] referred to this as "over-energizing".

* In ''Beast Wars II'', [[Galvatron (BWII)|Galvatron]] gets "drunk" on numerous occasions.

* In the UK comic, the [[Wreckers]] frequent a "bar" on Cybertron called [[Maccadam's Old Oil House]], where they consume high-grade energon, presumably for the purposes of getting intoxicated. [[Dreadwind (G1)|Dreadwind]] and [[Darkwing]] paid a visit to this establishment in a later story, and got so hammered that they didn't even notice [[Quickswitch]] fighting with some [[Mecannibals]].

===Miscellaneous===
[[Image:AutoBerserk OptimusPrime closedeyes.jpg|thumb|right|125px|Oh, my [[sensors#Optics|eyes]]!!]]
* In the episode [[Auto Berserk]], Optimus Prime's eyes are closed (apparently to shield them against the smoke) much like a human's when Autobots stagger out of the fire and smoke of the Negavator's destruction.

* [[Deathzaras]] once got a cold causing him to cough and have a fever in an episode from [[Victory (manga)|Victory manga]].
{{-}}

==Body parts==
===Teeth/tongues/eyeballs===

[[Image:MegatronTongue1.jpg|thumb|right|200px|A little too friendly, there, Megatron...]]

* The [[Generation 1 (cartoon)|Generation 1]] cartoon series is the only major piece of fiction to ''not'' present Transformers as possessing [[teeth]] and/or [[tongue]]s. The features appear in both the [[Marvel]] and [[Dreamwave]] comics, the ''[[Beast Wars (cartoon)|Beast Wars]]'' and ''[[Beast Machines (cartoon)|Beast Machines]]'' animated series (where teeth would even be knocked out on occasion), the ''[[Robots in Disguise (cartoon)|Robots in Disguise]]'' cartoon, and the [[Unicron Trilogy]] cartoons and comics.

* One of the most prevalent examples of this tradition is the ''[[Kiss Players]]'' manga, in which a [[Legion]] character is equipped with a distinctive prehensile (and phallic) tongue.

===Facial hair===
{{main|Facial hair}}

===Questionable body parts===

[[Image:Powerglide heart.jpg|right|100px|thumb|Not Astroboy, we swear!]]
[[Image:PredaBrain1.jpg|right|100px|thumb|Predaking: All brawn AND brains! ]]
* Nearly all Transformers seem to possess noses for no discernable functional reason.

* In the G1 episode "[[The Girl Who Loved Powerglide]]", [[Powerglide]] is seen at the end of the episode having the LED outline of a cartoon heart within his chasis. This is somewhat nonsensical within in the context of the show (the contents of Transformers chest cavitites had been shown several times before), and is probably merely meant as a one-off sight gag.

* [[Alpha Trion (G1)|Alpha Trion]], [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]], [[Unicron]], and [[Wreck-Gar (G1)|Wreck-Gar]] all sport "facial hair" in the G1 cartoon.

* [[Predaking]] (possibly brought back from the dead) has an organic brain when he is sliced in half in ''[[Zone]]''.

{{-}}

==Other biological functions==
===Sleep===
* In the G1 comic, [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] falls asleep and dreams (or rather, has a nightmare). This goes against established canon for that continuity that Transformers deactivate fully rather than "sleep," a point Ratchet himself makes.

* In the ''[[Generation 2]]'' [[Generation 2 (Marvel comic)|comic]], Kup attempts to rouse a vision-struck Optimus Prime by urging him to "wake up" -- then reminds himself that "we don't sleep!"

* In ''[[Beast Wars]]'', it has been firmly established that (perhaps partially due to their organic components), all Transformers within the cartoon sleep. Some prime examples of this are:
** Megatron has been shown to sleep in the command chair of the ''Darksyde'', while his dino head mounted on the end of his arm stays awake, looks around, and smiles slyly. Wonder what it thinks about...
** Cheetor has been shown asleep at many points, complete with (occasionally prophetic) dreams. In [[Feral Scream Part 2]], he also purrs when he's asleep. How cute!
** In "[[Call of the Wild]]", the Maximals are kept awake for two days by the Predacons' non-stop attacks on their base, which exacerbate their beast instincts overriding their logic circuits.

* ''[[Beast Wars II]]'' [[Galvatron (BWII)|Galvatron]] often nods off in a narcoleptic-like fashion.

* ''Armada'' [[Cyclonus (Armada)|Cyclonus]] is quite fond of catching forty winks when possible. [[Scavenger (Armada)|Scavenger]] did the same on one occasion. Armada Megatron was also seen asleep twice in the episode "Rebellion".

*''Animated'' [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]] enters a form of sleep he calls a "stasis nap", during which he gets several parking tickets. {{storylink|Transform and Roll Out!}}

===Sexuality===
One of the most controversial aspects of Transformers is the idea of sexuality. While it is established in most continuities that Transformers do not reproduce sexually, most continuities nonetheless have distinctive male and [[female Transformers|female characters]] (with the notable exception of the G1 comic, which explicitly states there is no sexual distinction).

[[Image:Sideburnhearts.jpg|thumb|right|Sorry Sideburn, I don't think Wedge rolls that way.]]

The G1 cartoon brought the first official female Autobots into the canon, including [[Elita One (G1)|Elita One]] and [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]]. The characters are noticeably more feminine in design and have clearly defined romantic relationships with male Autobots.

The issue becomes more complicated in ''Beast Wars'', where the sexuality line is clearly defined ([[Blackarachnia]] has a particularly well defined female figure, including what appears to be an ample bosom). It is hinted on occasion that the robots may engage in activities resembling human sex acts. Rattrap slyly makes a double entendre to [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]] regarding his suspected kinky activities with Predacon Blackarachnia, and later makes a comment about going to what sounds like a Cybertonian version of a strip club. In the Metals dub, Rattrap, thinking himself about to be stabbed by Dinobot, asked him to "be gentle, because I've heard the first time can hurt."

In the original Japanese version of ''Energon'', [[Tidal Wave|Mirage]] displays romantic interest in [[Megatron (Armada)|Galvatron]], causing his comrades to regard him with minor confusion. The ''Energon'' dub seemed to do its best to skirt around this issue, with Mirage's exclamations either being about different things entirely or simple cheering on of his leader - but they couldn't do anything about the hands-clapsed-beside-his-head-while-doe-eyed expressions, or the one time that he pirouetted, struck a pose while surrounded by a giant glowing pink heart. ''Why'', Japan?
'''Diaclone''' was one of two [[Takara]] toy lines (the other being [[Microchange]]) from which the earliest [[Generation 1]] Transformers toys came.

The Diaclone toyline was first introduced in 1980, but it was not until March 1982 that toys with [[alt mode]]s based on realistic, present-day vehicles began to appear as part of the [[Car Robots (Diaclone)|''Car Robots'']] sub-line.

Before the [[Transformers brand]] was introduced, Takara directly exported some Diaclone toys to North America under the brand names [[Diakron]] and [[Kronoform]], but those lines met with very little success.

In 1983, [[Hasbro]] representatives discovered Diaclone and Microchange toys at the Tokyo Toy Show, and soon struck a deal to create the Transformers brand.

==Trivia==
*Designs from Diaclone were ripped off for the Korean animated movie ''Diatron 5'' (다이아트론5), which is currently haunting Walmart dollar bins as [http://www.cyrusfirst.com/guests/digiview/dev/detail.php?p=312 Space Transformers].
:''Shockwave is a [[Decepticon]] in the [[Generation One]] [[continuity family]]. He was also briefly known as '''Shockblast'''.''
'''Shockwave''' has been referred to as "a computer on legs." This is not far from the truth. Logic rules Shockwave's thought processes and is the source of his every inspiration. He sees emotion as a weakness and a distraction. His cold and calculating ''modus operandi'' is supported by his frightening and exceptionally powerful form.

Shockwave is possibly even more powerful than [[Megatron_(G1)|Megatron]], to whom he appears to be loyal. Perhaps logic may one day dictate that the time to replace Megatron's flawed, emotion-fueled rule is at hand.
:''(Note: Events from the UK-only comic stories are in italics.)''

After the Autobots had successfully destroyed the asteroids threatening [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Megatron and the other Decepticons attacked the [[Ark]] while Shockwave remained behind on [[Nemesis|their ship]] to pilot it. When the Ark subsequently crashed on [[Earth]], deactivating all those within, Shockwave followed the ship down, but a malfunction in his guidance systems caused him to land half a world away, in the tropical Antarctic jungle known as the [[Savage Land]]. The Ark's dying computer detected his presence there and reactivated five Autobots, rebuilding them in the shapes of the Savage Land's native dinosaurs. {{storylink|The Last Stand}} These "[[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]]" battled Shockwave, a battle that ended in permanent stalemate when [[Snarl (G1)|Snarl]] brought down the mountain that Shockwave stood upon, knocking all the combantants into a tar pit. {{storylink|Repeat Performance}}

[[Image:Megatrong1marvelhumiliation.jpg|left|thumb|300px|Early on, Shockwave establishes the pecking order.]]
In 1984, when the rest of the Transformers aboard the Ark were awakened by a volcanic eruption, the Autobots attempted to track down their five missing comrades. A sensor drone tracked them to the Savage Land, but inadvertently wound up reactivating Shockwave, who headed straight for [[Oregon]]. He arrived just as the Autobots had claimed victory over the Decepticons, and his explosive entry saw all the weakened combatants knocked off-line. {{storylink|The Last Stand!}} Rounding up the bodies, Shockwave took control of the Ark, strung up the Autobots, decapitated [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and restored his fellow Decepticons back to health. This came as something of a rude shock to Megatron, who awoke to find that Shockwave had decided it was only logical for him to take over leadership of the Decepticons in light of Megatron's failure. {{storylink|The New Order}} After Shockwave attacked the offshore oil-drilling platform of tycoon [[G.B. Blackrock]] to secure it as a secondary base of operations (consequently crippling [[Josie Beller]] and leading to her transformation into [[Circuit Breaker]]), a weakened Megatron engaged him in combat for leadership, but was soundly defeated, and grudgingly vowed to serve Shockwave. {{storylink|The Worse of Two Evils!}}

Under Shockwave's command, the Decepticons took control of the [[Blackrock Aerospace Planet]], and used its facilities to create the bodies of the [[Constructicon]]s, which were then brought to life with the power of the [[Creation Matrix]] drained from Prime's head. {{storylink|The Next Best Thing to Being There!}} However, when Shockwave discovered that he could not bring his next creation, [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]], to life, he deduced that Prime had transferred the Matrix into the mind of the human, [[Buster Witwicky]]. Shockwave programmed Jetfire to capture Buster, but the boy was able to use the power of the Matrix to bring the robot under his own control to turn the tables on the Decepticons. {{storylink|Brainstorm!}} Under Buster's control, Jetfire knocked out Shockwave and Optimus Prime was reunited with his body, leading to a climactic battle between Shockwave and Prime, which ended when the Decepticon leader was buried in a swamp. {{storylink|Prime Time!}}

''Finally extricating himself from the swamp after being trapped for several months,'' Shockwave returned to leadership of the Decepticons with some new ill-fated plans involving stealing sonic energy from a rock concert {{storylink|Rock and Roll-Out!}} and attempting to exploit [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] as a weak link in the Autobot forces {{storylink|Plight of the Bumblebee!}}.

[[Image:ShockwaveSecondGeneration1.jpg |right|200px|thumb|Uh...you're on your own, kid. See ya!]]

''When [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] built Buster a mechanoid battle suit, the human test-drove it by attacking [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]]. Shockwave responded to the attack, only to be briefly blinded when a desperate Buster flung a handful of sand into his optic sensor. The darkness this brought about revived memories of his four-million-year burial and his humiliating swamp submergence, and an enraged, barely-sane Shockwave disregarded logic in a desire for revenge that saw him pursue Buster throughout the night. As the new day dawned, Busted made one final attack with all the suit's power, which destroyed it but merely injured Shockwave. Seizing the boy in his hand, Shockwave was about to crush the life from him when the Autobot forces arrived to rescue him.'' {{storylink|Robot Buster}} ''His rationality returning, Shockwave realized that Buster could potentially be a powerful tool to use against the Autobots, and had the Constructicons attempt to abduct him, but during the battle, [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] discovered that the Matrix had planted in Buster's mind a vision for the future of the Transformer race.'' {{storylink|Devastation Derby}} ''Shockwave watched intently as Soundwave tapped into Buster's dreams, and witnessed a vision of [[combiner]] Transformers battling. Little did he know that Soundwave was also beaming the vision to Megatron (now operating independent of Shockwave), who decided that it was time for him to retake Decepticon leadership. Shockwave and Megatron battled once more, but with Megatron at full health, the fight was much more evenly matched and drawn-out, and was even televised by the Decepticons' unwilling human ally, [[Donny Finkleberg|Robot Master]]. To prevent the Decepticons from being made to look like fools, Soundwave demanded they cease fighting and consent to a joint leadership. Begrudgingly, both agreed.'' {{storylink|Second Generation}}

This joint leadership did not last long. Leaving Shockwave in charge of the Decepticon's Wyoming coal mine base, Megatron led a team of Decepticons to attack the Autobot base, only for the majority of their number to be deactivated and captured by [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]]. At the same time, however, the Autobots attacked the Decepticon base to draw out [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]], to learn more about the combiner process. With the day having firmly been won by the Autobots on both fronts, Megatron argued that although he may have charged into a trap, Shockwave had been ineffective enough to do nothing, and had allowed a trap to spring up around him. Bowing to the logic of this argument, Shockwave stepped down and allowed Megatron to resume sole command. {{storylink|Command Performances!}}

''Shockwave's movements were unknown for the brief time that followed this embarrassment. He was absent from the Decepticons' base when the time-traveling future Decepticon [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] arrived from 2006 and temporarily disposed of Megatron, but returned not long thereafter. Wondering where everyone was, he was met by [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]] and Frenzy, who had escaped their confinement in the Autobot base, but then, abruptly, all three were mass-displaced into [[limbo]] when three future Autobots traveled back in time to thwart Galvatron's plans.'' {{storylink|Target 2006}} ''In limbo, Shockwave and his two companions battled alongside the similarly-displaced Optimus Prime, [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]] and Ratchet against the deadly illusions created by the dimension's native lifeforms, before returning to their natural place in space and time when the time-travellers returned to their point of origin.'' {{storylink|Distant Thunder!}}

''It was not long before Shockwave began scheming to return to the position of leader, and when Megatron summoned the Decepticon hunters the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]] to Earth to stalk Optimus Prime, he saw his opportunity. Conspiring with them, Shockwave arranged for the team to turn on Megatron during the hunt, depriving him of his weapons, expecting that he would have no chance against Prime one-on-one. {{storylink|Prey!}} When Megatron did not return, Shockwave believed him dead, but in truth, he had escaped to Cybertron - though this was of little concern to the cyclopean schemer, who took up the mantle of leadership in his absence again. It was not long after this that Galvatron returned, having traveled back from the future once more, and now dancing dangerously on the edge of sanity. Fearing the threat Galvatron might pose to his own leadership, Shockwave had the Decepticons aid the Dinobots in battling him, and Galvatron departed rather than fight his own future troops. {{storylink|Fallen Angel!}} Shortly thereafter, Megatron returned from Cybertron with a case of amnesia, sparing Shockwave any retribution for his actions.'' {{storylink|Resurrection!}}

Not long afterwards, Optimus Prime perished in a video game duel with Megatron, but the Decepticon leader grew progressively more paranoid, fearing his foe had survived. Apparently attempting to shock Megatron back to his senses, Shockwave had the Predacons come to Earth and force him into a combat situation, implanting a copy of his personality program in the team so that he could "be part" of the battle from a safe distance. Events culminated in Megatron's apparent death when, having fully plunged into insanity, he blew the space bridge up while standing on it. Once again, Shockwave was leader. {{storylink|Gone But Not Forgotten!}}

Shockwave established regular contact with Cybertron Decepticon commander [[Ratbat]], {{storylink|King of the Hill!}} ''and had the [[Seacon]]s sent from Cybertron so that they could use their aquatic abilities to help fortify the Decepticons' new artificial mobile island base. It was while they were performing this task that Galvatron returned, advancing on the island, much to Shockwave's distress. He ordered the Seacons to attack, but Galvatron tore through both them and the base walls - he had, he claimed, come in peace, but that Shockwave's attack had made an enemy of him, putting all Decepticons in danger. This of course, was a complete lie, but it turned the Decepticons against Shockwave, thereby disrupting the one-eyed warrior's command.'' {{storylink|Enemy Action!}}

After interfering in a scheme of Ratbat's, Buster Witwicky was captured by the Decepticons and brought to their island, which Shockwave then transformed into spaceship mode and took to the fringes of Earth's atmosphere. Autobot [[Headmaster]] leader [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] pursued the craft and battled Shockwave in the void of space, where he defeated him and sent him tumbling back through Earth's atmosphere in free-fall. {{storylink|The Desert Island of Space!}} ''Although thought dead by many, Shockwave in actuality survived and returned to the Decepticons' original fortress base, where he concentrated on resolving the threat posed by Galvatron. Seeking to use the missing Megatron as a weapon against him, Shockwave had the small number of Decepticons still under his control recover a [[Straxus|clone of the departed leader]] from the Thames river, which he and [[Snap Trap]] repaired and brainwashed using the [[psycho-probe]].'' {{storylink|Salvage!}} ''Around the same time, Galvatron's fellow time-travelers [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] had joined up with Shockwave's Decepticons, but, chaffing in his service, Cyclonus wound up accidentally blurting out that they would be responsible for killing him in the future of 2008. Seeking to preserve his continued existence, Shockwave unleashed the Megatron clone upon them, resulting in the death of Cyclonus. Satisfied with the clone's performance, he dispatched him against Galvatron. {{storylink|Dry Run!}} The battle had an unexpected conclusion, however, when "Megatron" found a kindred spirit in Galvatron and actually joined forces with him. {{storylink|Altered Image!}}

''This unfortunate chain of events led to Shockwave losing his grip on sanity. Unable to logically fathom the situation, he slipped into despondency, stringing up the remains of Cyclonus on the walls of his castle as a twisted trophy. What Shockwave did not realize, however, was that the repeated time-travel and the death of Cyclonus had caused a rift in space-time that threatened the stability of reality. Hoping to restore the balance by returning all time-travelers to their proper place in time, Scourge attempted to reclaim Cyclonus's body, but was shot down by Shockwave for his trouble. At Scourge's urging, [[Ravage]] was able to present events logically enough to Shockwave to restore some semblance of coherency to his thoughts, and Shockwave himself deposited Cyclonus's remains in the rift, and sealed it with an x-ray blast.'' {{storylink|Time Wars}}

It would be some time before Shockwave next resurfaced, emerging from sea on the coast of Blackpool, England, and killing a human who had seen him. {{storylink|Dark Creation}} Seeking to established his own faction of Decepticons, he saved [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] from Circuit Breaker {{storylink|The Human Factor}}, and the pair, along with [[Ravage]], recruited those who had grown disenfranchised with the leadership of the current Decepticon Earth commander, [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]]. {{storylink|Eye of the Storm!}} The small group staged an attack on Scorponok's New Jersey base, and Scorponok and Shockwave battled in the waters around Manhattan before being interrupted by the super-team, the [[Neo-Knights]]. {{storylink|...All This, and Civil War 2}} Shockwave used the ensuing confusing to implicate the Autobots in an attack on the human team, but was later recognized by Circuit Breaker as the robot responsible for crippling her, and was blown out of the sky by her powers. {{storylink|Out of Time!}} Abruptly, the battle was ended when the Transformers were all teleported to Cybertron to face the threat of [[Unicron]], but even Shockwave's data grid could not compute the vastness of the threat the chaos-bringer posed. {{storylink|On the Edge of Extinction!}}

After Unicron was destroyed, Shockwave teamed up with Starscream once more to find the remains of the Autobots' Ark, which had crashed during the battle. {{storylink|Still Life!}} The pair succeeded in getting the craft airborne again, but were unaware that the numerous damaged Transformers in the ship's stasis pods had been reactivated with [[nucleon]] - Megatron among them - and that an alternate future version of [[Galvatron II|Galvatron]] was also on board. {{storylink|Exodus!}} Conflict erupted when Megatron and Galvatron met, but the sight of Shockwave saw the two Decepticons team up against him. To put an end to things once and for all, the revived Ratchet sent the Ark crashing to Earth. {{storylink|A Savage Place!}} There was no indication that Shockwave survived, suggesting that his evil had once and for all been put to rest.

''In the alternate future timeline of [[Earth-120185]], Shockwave attacked the unveiling of the first female Autobot [[Arcee]] in 1995, only to have his forces fended off by her.'' {{storylink|Prime's Rib!}} ''Years later, in 2004, he staged an attack on the opening day of [[Autobot City]], but was defeated by the extremely illogical actions of [[Hot Rod]] - who threw him down a mountain, and jumped along with him for the ride.'' {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}} ''After [[The Transformers: The Movie|Unicron's attack and destruction in 2006]], Shockwave assumed leadership of the Decepticons in the chaos that followed, and consolidated them into a strong force that ultimately resulted in a stalemate in the Cybertronian Civil War by 2008. It was then that Unicron's influence was felt again, as he mind-controlled Cyclonus, Scourge and the freelance peace-keeping agent [[Death's Head]] into assassinating Shockwave. After a hard fought battle, Shockwave was ultimately destroyed, his body blown to pieces and his memory module crushed between Death's Head's fingers, ensuring that he could never return.'' {{storylink|The Legacy of Unicron!}}

====Earthforce====

''In the alternate timeline that is home to the Autobot [[Earthforce]] team, the 1990s were host to yet another Decepticon Civil War, as Megatron and Shockwave lead their own factions for dominance. In hopes of disposing of both of them, however, Starscream and Soundwave lured them into a trap that saw them sent on the run.'' {{storylink|Internal Affairs!}} ''Shockwave and Megatron subsequently organized a hit on Starscream, and then attacked him when it didn't go to plan, but were forced back by the Earthforce, who needed Starscream alive to help heal [[Snarl (G1)|Snarl]], afflicted with [[Corrodia Gravis]].'' {{storylink|The Lesser Evil!}}

Shockwave was a highly ranked Decepticon. Fanatically loyal to Megatron, Shockwave was entrusted stewardship of Cybertron by Megatron when the latter left to intercept an Autobot mission surveying for new forms of energy. Neither Decepticon suspected that Megatron's absence (and Shockwave's command) would last four million years. Little changed on Cybertron during those years, although Shockwave apparently lost his left hand and replaced it with a laser cannon.

[[Image:ShockwaveDesertionOfTheDinobots1.jpg|right|150px|thumb|Shockwave bought himself on eBay!]]

He oversaw all the Decepticon activity on Cybertron, rarely leaving the planet. His keen scientific mind resulted in several incredible devices, including the [[space bridge]] and a [[Chronosphere|time machine]].

By 2005, Megatron had returned to Cybertron and conquered the planet, leading Shockwave to lay down his guardianship of the planet and rejoin Megatron's inner circle. Shockwave commanded the Decepticon forces during Unicron's attack on Cybertron, and may have been killed in the ensuing battle. {{storylink|The Transformers: The Movie (1986)|Transformers: The Movie}}

''(Though Shockwave's death was written into the movie's script, it did not make it into the released film. However, IDW's [[Transformers: The Animated Movie #4|20th Anniversary comic adaptation]] did include Shockwave's death. Shockwave's model did show up in season 3 episodes as possible animation errors.)''
===Dreamwave comics continuity===

[[Image:Shockwavedwtww1.jpg|left|thumb|175px|Dreamwave is all his fault.]]

As a major player in the Decepticon army in Cybertron's past, Shockwave led the main attack on the Autobots' stronghold shortly after the appointment of Optimus Prime, and personally destroyed two [[guardian robot]]s with one blast in space gun mode. {{storylink|The War Within}} After Megatron's apparent death in an early space bridge test, the Decepticon faction splintered, with Starscream creating his own faction, the "[[Predacon (War Within)|Predacons]]," and Shockwave leading the Decepticons through the "[[Dark Age]]s" of Cybertron. During this period, his logic allowed him to put aside differences with Jetfire and the Autobots in order to defeat the greater evil of The [[Fallen]]. {{storylink|The War Within: The Dark Ages}} As the Dark Ages came to an end, Shockwave was ready to sign a peace treaty with Ratbat's [[Ultracon]]s and the Autobots, but the return of Megatron derailed the plan, though the [[Quintesson]]-created clones he brought back to the planet with him greatly intrigued Shockwave. {{storylink|The War Within: Age of Wrath}}

Shockwave was left behind on Cybertron while Megatron's forces pursued Optimus Prime and were subsequently lost on Earth for four million years, and became Decepticon leader on the planet. He began experimenting with cloning, and through studies of [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] and [[Blitzwing]], began to conceive the idea of a Transformer with multiple alternate modes. Cybertron, however, was steadily growing lower and lower on energy, and in an attempt to create new energy-conservative Transformers, Shockwave allied with the Autobots for a pooling of resources that created the [[Micromaster]]s. {{storylink|Destined For Nothing}} This came back to bite him, however, when the Decepticon Micromaster [[Skystalker]] attempted to overthrow his command, knocking him offline and decapitating him to use in a grotesque puppet show, giving orders to the other Decepticons by holding Shockwave's severed noggin up to a video screen. {{storylink|Victims of the Revolution}} When Skystalker was defeated, Shockwave was repaired, but eventually, he and all the other Transformers on Cybertron succumbed to stasis as the planet's energy ran out, and it entered a hibernation phase known as the "[[Great Shutdown]]."

3000 years ago, Unicron's herald Scourge located the dead planet, and reactivated Shockwave for study purposes. {{storylink|Generation 1 #0}} However, when Shockwave was attacked by a swarm of [[Sharkticon]]s, Scourge intervened and saved him, {{storylink|Cold War}} only to be shot in the back by the Decepticon and captured. Dissecting and studying Scourge, Shockwave learned many secrets about the function and purpose of Transformers and Cybertron from the secrets hidden within him. Using that knowledge, Shockwave steadily worked to restore Cybertron, reactivating its population and solving their energy needs, ending the war and unifying the planet. He also continued his experiments into multiple transformations, yielding the unstable [[Duocon]]s, and then successfully mastering the process with [[Triple Changer]]s. Capturing [[Alpha Trion]], Shockwave sought to unlock the full secrets of [[Vector Sigma]], having already learned of the mysterious significance of Earth to the Transformer race. {{storylink|Revelation}} In preparation for the invasion of the planet, Shockwave subliminally influenced the population of Cybertron to become more violent, {{storylink|Passive Aggression}} and prevented the return of Optimus Prime and Megatron aboard the Ark II by having a [[Robert Hallo|human agent]] blow it up. {{storylink|Revelation}}

[[Image:Shockwavedwwarandpeace.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Deja vu all over again.]]
In 2003, Shockwave made his move, heading to Earth with his Triple Changer troops and capturing Megatron and Optimus's forces, planning to try the two leaders as war criminals. Megatron was jettisoned into space by Starscream, {{storylink|New World Order}} while Prime escaped from his clutches and fell in with a rebel group. {{storylink|Cold War}} Mobilizing the planet's Autobots, Prime led an attack on Shockwave's citadel, and confronted Shockwave himself, only to be defeated by the Decepticon, who ripped the Matrix from him. Using the Matrix to activate Vector Sigma, Shockwave downloaded the compressed contents of the mega-computer into his network, but before he had an opportunity to view the data, he was pulled into a battle with [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]]. In the course of the fight, the fuel line to his cannon was severed, and the resulting explosion destroyed his citadel and knocked him into a chasm. {{storylink|Revelation}}

While the rest of Cybertron believed Shockwave to be deceased, he had actually survived the explosion and gone underground in the wastelands of Cybertron. {{storylink|Lost and Found}} In addition to re-establishing communications with the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]] on Earth (who had been operating there as an advance squad preparing the way for his invasion), {{storylink|Extermination}} Shockwave continued his experimentation, resulting in the creation of [[Sixshot (G1)|Sixshot]]. Soon after, however, Megatron returned to Cybertron and bested Shockwave, {{storylink|Lost and Found}} taking him to Earth where he did the same to Starscream. But now, the three players were assembled, each knowing certain dark secrets of Cybertron's past... {{storylink|The Route of All Evil}}

===Devil's Due ''G.I. Joe vs. Transformers'' comics continuity===

[[Image:Shockwave-ddp2-2b1.jpg|thumb|There are so many ways to make him look awesome.]]

In the absence of Megatron, Shockwave had assumed command of the Decepticons on Cybertron, and had successfully driven the Autobots into an underground resistance movement. When a number of GI Joe and COBRA troops, along with the captive Starscream, accidentally arrived on Cybertron via an overloaded wormhole gate, Shockwave and his troops immediately surrounded them. The same wormhole malfunction blasted a number of Transformers off of Cybertron and into random points of Earth's past, a temporal anomaly that threatened to scour the Earth's face with fire if the Transformers were not brought back.

Ultra Magnus and Perceptor arrived and were able to hold off the Decepticons for a time with a force field, while teams of humans were time-ported away to retrieve the missing Transformers and end the anomaly. Magnus's force field power ran out before all the teams had returned, and Shockwave had his troops capture the Autobots. He took personal pleasure in blasting Ratchet when he was returned through the gate.

Revealing that he had intended all along for the humans to discover the wormhole gate technology, Shockwave set the gate to continue operating but blocked the last remaining group from returning -- thus condemning Earth to destruction, easy pickings for conquest. Fortunately for Earth, two members of the GI Joe team were able to reactivate the gate, allowing the newly-created Dinobots to return to Cybertron. The Dinobots' power quickly drove Shockwave's Decepticons into retreat.

Regrouping on the other side of the planet, Shockwave had the long-missing Starscream brought before him. As Starscream attempted to explain his way out of being seen as a traitor, a recording of Cobra Commander's voice suddenly began to play, explaining that he had lined Starscream's hull with explosives. Shockwave leapt to try and stop the process, but the entire building exploded, apparently taking the two Decepticons with it.

With Shockwave's defeat, peace returned to Cybertron, and the Decepticons were driven back to a region known as the Gladiator Zone.

===IDW comics continuity===

Shockwave was a Decepticon scientist on Cybertron six hundred thousand [[meta-cycles]] ago. He predicted the eventual destruction of Cybertron as a result of the Great War, and theorized that the war would spread across the galaxy. In anticipation of this, he seeded several worlds with an altered form of energon (this is possibly the [[Ore-13]] later found by Starscream). After a long period of indeterminable length, at the beginning of the Ice Age on Earth, the Energon had become unstable, requiring Shockwave to place dampening devices across the worlds he'd seeded.

[[Image:Shockwaveg1idw.jpg|right|thumb|200px|Shockwave began to have second thoughts over his choice of manicurists.]]

Before departing Cybertron, he was ordered to deal with an Energon raid by the [[Dynobot]]s (by destroying the energon and severely injuring the team of misfits). Vowing revenge, they followed him when he left the planet.

Earth was the first world he visited to plant the devices on. Before he could leave though, his ship was destroyed and the Dynobots teleported down to attack him. The concept of the Dynobots illogical behavior based off vengeance, along with the sheer force of their attack, left him off balance at first. Unable to win through logic, he developed thought patterns based off rage. This more brutal, violent Shockwave decimated the Dynobots, burning off the organic coatings shielding them from the planet's high energon fields, forcing them into [[stasis lock]]. Deactivating his new 'rage' program for further study, Shockwave was prevented by leaving the planet by a dead man's switch on the Dynobots' ship. A massive beam of energy plowed into the ground, causing a volcanic eruption which consumed Shockwave and the Dynobots. {{storylink|Spotlight #1 Shockwave|Shockwave Spotlight}}

Megatron became suspicious of Shockwave's absence and assigned [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]] to search through Shockwave's files. Bludgeon's findings later inspired him in part to reattempt [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]]'s mad plot which had, in the meantime, left their planet uninhabitable. {{storylink|Stormbringer (comics)|Stormbringer}}

In 2006, a [[Professor Goring|human archaeological team]] uncovered Shockwave's body, which a few months later was obtained (along with the Dynobots' bodies) by an organization named [[Skywatch]]. {{storylink|Escalation, Issue 5}}
===Generation 1===
*'''Shockwave''' (1985)
: ''Japanese ID number:'' '''49'''
[[Image:G1Shockwave_toy.jpg|left|thumb|You can try to play Duck Hunt with him all day long, but it just doesn't work.]]

: Shockwave transforms into a large Cybertronian handgun. He has light and sound electronics activated by his gun-mode trigger. The sound effects can be switched between two (fairly generic) blaster-sound frequencies with a small toggle on his battery pack.

: Although Shockwave was depicted in the 1984 episodes of the animated series, he did not receive a toy release until 1985. Unlike the bulk of early Transformers that drew their molds from Takara Diaclone and Microchange toys, Shockwave's original form was first produced by ToyCo. As such, similar non-Transformer toys using the same mold were released in 1985, including a gray version called Astro Magnum and a Radio Shack exclusive called Galactic Man. A minor but amusing difference between the Radio Shack version, humorously called "Shackwave", and the Hasbro version, is that Shockwave's inconveniently placed trigger was remolded and appears less...inconvenient.

*'''Shockwave with Fistfight''' (Action Master, 1990)
[[Image:ActionMaster_Shockwave.jpg|right|thumb|80px|"I shall call him Mini-Me."]]

: As an [[Action Master]], Shockwave is a non-transforming action figure who combines elements of his cartoon model and original toy, with a few more details. He is compatible with any other Action Master weapon or vehicle. He came with his small robot partner [[Fistfight]].

: Reportedly, early "test market" releases came with a rubber hose that connects from his gun-arm to his back, like the original toy.

===Alternators===

: A [[retool]]ing of the "[[Jazz|Meister]]" Alternator, "Shockblast" transforms into a 1:24-scale Mazdaspeed-modified RX-8 sports car. He features working car doors, hood, and trunk. While the box has the name "Shockblast", the car's actual license plate is "SHKWAV".

: Aside from color and the laser cannon replacing his left hand, the main differences between Shockblast and Meister is that Shockblast has new front and rear fenders, doors, side skirts and a spoiler.

: This mold was also used to make the [[Autrooper]] and [[Zoom-Zoom]].

: In 2003, [[Hard Hero]] released a large polystone bust of Shockwave, based upon his ''Generation 1'' cartoon appearance. This was released in two versions, the regular as shown in the picture and a limited edition 'metallic' version limited to 500 pieces worldwide.

: Diamond Comics Distributors also released a small, six-inch polystone statue of Shockwave made by Palisades, based upon [[Pat Lee]]'s rendition of the character in [[Dreamwave]]'s Transformers comic books.

*'''Grimlock & Shockwave''' (Robot Heroes, 2007)
[[Image:Robot_Hero_Shockwave.jpg|right|thumb|130px|He's logical ''and'' cute.]]
: The most adorablest Shockwave ever, ''[[Robot Heroes]]'' Shockwave is a stumpy PVC figurine that combines toy and animation model details into a single package. He has limited articulation (neck and shoulder swivels only), but he's so cute it doesn't matter. He was available in a two-pack with a similarly lovable version of [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]].
[[Image:Generations-CybertronBattle.jpg|thumb|250px|Aha! I have your Lucky Charms now, Starscream!]]

* A Cybertronian battle scene in ''[[Comics Bom-Bom]]'' (reprinted in ''[[Transformers Generations]]'') depicts Shockwave not in purple, but in the original grey color scheme of the Astro Magnum/Galactic Man toy.

* In the cartoon, Shockwave was once shown having two hands. Even Trailbreaker was shown with two hands. See "More than meets the eye" episodes.

* In "Desertion of Dinobots" part 1, Shockwave was wielding a miniature version... of himself. Or perhaps he is being wielded in gun mode by a gigantic version of himself. Who knows?

*In the Japanese dub of the Generation 1 cartoon, Shockwave's personality was altered from the American interpretation. Instead of being a monotone slave to logic he was presented like a grizzled old man with a loud, raspy voice and a very short temper.

[[Image:Starbrigade.jpg|left|thumb|125px|Product and colors (and franchise) may vary.]]

* One of the earliest pictured versions of Action Master Shockwave features some awkward proportions and Fistfight with reversed colors. Another oddity of this version is that Shockwave's right hand is sculpted in an open position.

* A silhouette of Action Master Shockwave's card art appears on the back of the [[G.I. Joe]] Star Brigade packaging... as [[Hawk (G.I. Joe)|Hawk]]!

After the Autobots had successfully destroyed the asteroids threatening [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Megatron and the other Decepticons attacked the [[Ark]] while Shockwave remained behind on [[Nemesis|their ship]] to pilot it. When the Ark subsequently crashed on [[Earth]], deactivating all those within, Shockwave followed the ship down, but a malfunction in his guidance systems caused him to land half a world away, in the tropical Antarctic jungle known as the [[Savage Land]]. The Ark's dying computer detected his presence there and reactivated five Autobots, rebuilding them in the shapes of the Savage Land's native dinosaurs. {{storylink|The Last Stand}} These "[[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]]" battled Shockwave, a battle that ended in permanent stalemate when [[Snarl (G1)|Snarl]] brought down the mountain that Shockwave stood upon, knocking all the combantants into a tar pit. {{storylink|Repeat Performance}}

[[Image:Megatrong1marvelhumiliation.jpg|left|thumb|300px|Early on, Shockwave establishes the pecking order.]]
In 1984, when the rest of the Transformers aboard the Ark were awakened by a volcanic eruption, the Autobots attempted to track down their five missing comrades. A sensor drone tracked them to the Savage Land, but inadvertently wound up reactivating Shockwave, who headed straight for [[Oregon]]. He arrived just as the Autobots had claimed victory over the Decepticons, and his explosive entry saw all the weakened combatants knocked off-line. {{storylink|The Last Stand!}} Rounding up the bodies, Shockwave took control of the Ark, strung up the Autobots, decapitated [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and restored his fellow Decepticons back to health. This came as something of a rude shock to Megatron, who awoke to find that Shockwave had decided it was only logical for him to take over leadership of the Decepticons in light of Megatron's failure. {{storylink|The New Order}} After Shockwave attacked the offshore oil-drilling platform of tycoon [[G.B. Blackrock]] to secure it as a secondary base of operations (consequently crippling [[Josie Beller]] and leading to her transformation into [[Circuit Breaker]]), a weakened Megatron engaged him in combat for leadership, but was soundly defeated, and grudgingly vowed to serve Shockwave. {{storylink|The Worse of Two Evils!}}

Under Shockwave's command, the Decepticons took control of the [[Blackrock Aerospace Planet]], and used its facilities to create the bodies of the [[Constructicon]]s, which were then brought to life with the power of the [[Creation Matrix]] drained from Prime's head. {{storylink|The Next Best Thing to Being There!}} However, when Shockwave discovered that he could not bring his next creation, [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]], to life, he deduced that Prime had transferred the Matrix into the mind of the human, [[Buster Witwicky]]. Shockwave programmed Jetfire to capture Buster, but the boy was able to use the power of the Matrix to bring the robot under his own control to turn the tables on the Decepticons. {{storylink|Brainstorm!}} Under Buster's control, Jetfire knocked out Shockwave and Optimus Prime was reunited with his body, leading to a climactic battle between Shockwave and Prime, which ended when the Decepticon leader was buried in a swamp. {{storylink|Prime Time!}}

See ya!]]

''When [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] built Buster a mechanoid battle suit, the human test-drove it by attacking [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]]. Shockwave responded to the attack, only to be briefly blinded when a desperate Buster flung a handful of sand into his optic sensor. The darkness this brought about revived memories of his four-million-year burial and his humiliating swamp submergence, and an enraged, barely-sane Shockwave disregarded logic in a desire for revenge that saw him pursue Buster throughout the night. As the new day dawned, Busted made one final attack with all the suit's power, which destroyed it but merely injured Shockwave. Seizing the boy in his hand, Shockwave was about to crush the life from him when the Autobot forces arrived to rescue him.'' {{storylink|Robot Buster}} ''His rationality returning, Shockwave realized that Buster could potentially be a powerful tool to use against the Autobots, and had the Constructicons attempt to abduct him, but during the battle, [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] discovered that the Matrix had planted in Buster's mind a vision for the future of the Transformer race.'' {{storylink|Devastation Derby}} ''Shockwave watched intently as Soundwave tapped into Buster's dreams, and witnessed a vision of [[combiner]] Transformers battling. Little did he know that Soundwave was also beaming the vision to Megatron (now operating independent of Shockwave), who decided that it was time for him to retake Decepticon leadership. Shockwave and Megatron battled once more, but with Megatron at full health, the fight was much more evenly matched and drawn-out, and was even televised by the Decepticons' unwilling human ally, [[Donny Finkleberg|Robot Master]]. To prevent the Decepticons from being made to look like fools, Soundwave demanded they cease fighting and consent to a joint leadership. Begrudgingly, both agreed.'' {{storylink|Second Generation}}

This joint leadership did not last long. Leaving Shockwave in charge of the Decepticon's Wyoming coal mine base, Megatron led a team of Decepticons to attack the Autobot base, only for the majority of their number to be deactivated and captured by [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]]. At the same time, however, the Autobots attacked the Decepticon base to draw out [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]], to learn more about the combiner process. With the day having firmly been won by the Autobots on both fronts, Megatron argued that although he may have charged into a trap, Shockwave had been ineffective enough to do nothing, and had allowed a trap to spring up around him. Bowing to the logic of this argument, Shockwave stepped down and allowed Megatron to resume sole command. {{storylink|Command Performances!}}

''Shockwave's movements were unknown for the brief time that followed this embarrassment. He was absent from the Decepticons' base when the time-traveling future Decepticon [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] arrived from 2006 and temporarily disposed of Megatron, but returned not long thereafter. Wondering where everyone was, he was met by [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]] and Frenzy, who had escaped their confinement in the Autobot base, but then, abruptly, all three were mass-displaced into [[limbo]] when three future Autobots traveled back in time to thwart Galvatron's plans.'' {{storylink|Target 2006}} ''In limbo, Shockwave and his two companions battled alongside the similarly-displaced Optimus Prime, [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]] and Ratchet against the deadly illusions created by the dimension's native lifeforms, before returning to their natural place in space and time when the time-travellers returned to their point of origin.'' {{storylink|Distant Thunder!}}

''It was not long before Shockwave began scheming to return to the position of leader, and when Megatron summoned the Decepticon hunters the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]] to Earth to stalk Optimus Prime, he saw his opportunity. Conspiring with them, Shockwave arranged for the team to turn on Megatron during the hunt, depriving him of his weapons, expecting that he would have no chance against Prime one-on-one. {{storylink|Prey!}} When Megatron did not return, Shockwave believed him dead, but in truth, he had escaped to Cybertron - though this was of little concern to the cyclopean schemer, who took up the mantle of leadership in his absence again. It was not long after this that Galvatron returned, having traveled back from the future once more, and now dancing dangerously on the edge of sanity. Fearing the threat Galvatron might pose to his own leadership, Shockwave had the Decepticons aid the Dinobots in battling him, and Galvatron departed rather than fight his own future troops. {{storylink|Fallen Angel!}} Shortly thereafter, Megatron returned from Cybertron with a case of amnesia, sparing Shockwave any retribution for his actions.'' {{storylink|Resurrection!}}

Not long afterwards, Optimus Prime perished in a video game duel with Megatron, but the Decepticon leader grew progressively more paranoid, fearing his foe had survived. Apparently attempting to shock Megatron back to his senses, Shockwave had the Predacons come to Earth and force him into a combat situation, implanting a copy of his personality program in the team so that he could "be part" of the battle from a safe distance. Events culminated in Megatron's apparent death when, having fully plunged into insanity, he blew the space bridge up while standing on it. Once again, Shockwave was leader. {{storylink|Gone But Not Forgotten!}}

Shockwave established regular contact with Cybertron Decepticon commander [[Ratbat]], {{storylink|King of the Hill!}} ''and had the [[Seacon]]s sent from Cybertron so that they could use their aquatic abilities to help fortify the Decepticons' new artificial mobile island base. It was while they were performing this task that Galvatron returned, advancing on the island, much to Shockwave's distress. He ordered the Seacons to attack, but Galvatron tore through both them and the base walls - he had, he claimed, come in peace, but that Shockwave's attack had made an enemy of him, putting all Decepticons in danger. This of course, was a complete lie, but it turned the Decepticons against Shockwave, thereby disrupting the one-eyed warrior's command.'' {{storylink|Enemy Action!}}

After interfering in a scheme of Ratbat's, Buster Witwicky was captured by the Decepticons and brought to their island, which Shockwave then transformed into spaceship mode and took to the fringes of Earth's atmosphere. Autobot [[Headmaster]] leader [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] pursued the craft and battled Shockwave in the void of space, where he defeated him and sent him tumbling back through Earth's atmosphere in free-fall. {{storylink|The Desert Island of Space!}} ''Although thought dead by many, Shockwave in actuality survived and returned to the Decepticons' original fortress base, where he concentrated on resolving the threat posed by Galvatron. Seeking to use the missing Megatron as a weapon against him, Shockwave had the small number of Decepticons still under his control recover a [[Straxus|clone of the departed leader]] from the Thames river, which he and [[Snap Trap]] repaired and brainwashed using the [[psycho-probe]].'' {{storylink|Salvage!}} ''Around the same time, Galvatron's fellow time-travelers [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] had joined up with Shockwave's Decepticons, but, chaffing in his service, Cyclonus wound up accidentally blurting out that they would be responsible for killing him in the future of 2008. Seeking to preserve his continued existence, Shockwave unleashed the Megatron clone upon them, resulting in the death of Cyclonus. Satisfied with the clone's performance, he dispatched him against Galvatron. {{storylink|Dry Run!}} The battle had an unexpected conclusion, however, when "Megatron" found a kindred spirit in Galvatron and actually joined forces with him. {{storylink|Altered Image!}}

''This unfortunate chain of events led to Shockwave losing his grip on sanity. Unable to logically fathom the situation, he slipped into despondency, stringing up the remains of Cyclonus on the walls of his castle as a twisted trophy. What Shockwave did not realize, however, was that the repeated time-travel and the death of Cyclonus had caused a rift in space-time that threatened the stability of reality. Hoping to restore the balance by returning all time-travelers to their proper place in time, Scourge attempted to reclaim Cyclonus's body, but was shot down by Shockwave for his trouble. At Scourge's urging, [[Ravage]] was able to present events logically enough to Shockwave to restore some semblance of coherency to his thoughts, and Shockwave himself deposited Cyclonus's remains in the rift, and sealed it with an x-ray blast.'' {{storylink|Time Wars}}

It would be some time before Shockwave next resurfaced, emerging from sea on the coast of Blackpool, England, and killing a human who had seen him. {{storylink|Dark Creation}} Seeking to established his own faction of Decepticons, he saved [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] from Circuit Breaker {{storylink|The Human Factor}}, and the pair, along with [[Ravage]], recruited those who had grown disenfranchised with the leadership of the current Decepticon Earth commander, [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]]. {{storylink|Eye of the Storm!}} The small group staged an attack on Scorponok's New Jersey base, and Scorponok and Shockwave battled in the waters around Manhattan before being interrupted by the super-team, the [[Neo-Knights]]. {{storylink|...All This, and Civil War 2}} Shockwave used the ensuing confusing to implicate the Autobots in an attack on the human team, but was later recognized by Circuit Breaker as the robot responsible for crippling her, and was blown out of the sky by her powers. {{storylink|Out of Time!}} Abruptly, the battle was ended when the Transformers were all teleported to Cybertron to face the threat of [[Unicron]], but even Shockwave's data grid could not compute the vastness of the threat the chaos-bringer posed. {{storylink|On the Edge of Extinction!}}

''In the alternate future timeline of [[Earth-120185]], Shockwave attacked the unveiling of the first female Autobot [[Arcee]] in 1995, only to have his forces fended off by her.'' {{storylink|Prime's Rib!}} ''Years later, in 2004, he staged an attack on the opening day of [[Autobot City]], but was defeated by the extremely illogical actions of [[Hot Rod]] - who threw him down a mountain, and jumped along with him for the ride.'' {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}} ''After [[The Transformers: The Movie|Unicron's attack and destruction in 2006]], Shockwave assumed leadership of the Decepticons in the chaos that followed, and consolidated them into a strong force that ultimately resulted in a stalemate in the Cybertronian Civil War by 2008. It was then that Unicron's influence was felt again, as he mind-controlled Cyclonus, Scourge and the freelance peace-keeping agent [[Death's Head]] into assassinating Shockwave. After a hard fought battle, Shockwave was ultimately destroyed, his body blown to pieces and his memory module crushed between Death's Head's fingers, ensuring that he could never return.'' {{storylink|The Legacy of Unicron!}}
====Earthforce====

''In the alternate timeline that is home to the Autobot [[Earthforce]] team, the 1990s were host to yet another Decepticon Civil War, as Megatron and Shockwave lead their own factions for dominance. In hopes of disposing of both of them, however, Starscream and Soundwave lured them into a trap that saw them sent on the run.'' {{storylink|Internal Affairs!}} ''Shockwave and Megatron subsequently organized a hit on Starscream, and then attacked him when it didn't go to plan, but were forced back by the Earthforce, who needed Starscream alive to help heal [[Snarl (G1)|Snarl]], afflicted with [[Corrodia Gravis]].'' {{storylink|The Lesser Evil!}}

By 2005, Megatron had returned to Cybertron and conquered the planet, leading Shockwave to lay down his guardianship of the planet and rejoin Megatron's inner circle. Shockwave commanded the Decepticon forces during Unicron's attack on Cybertron, and may have been killed in the ensuing battle. {{storylink|The Transformers: The Movie (1986)|Transformers: The Movie}}
''(Though Shockwave's death was written into the movie's script, it did not make it into the released film. However, IDW's [[Transformers: The Animated Movie #4|20th Anniversary comic adaptation]] did include Shockwave's death.
As a major player in the Decepticon army in Cybertron's past, Shockwave led the main attack on the Autobots' stronghold shortly after the appointment of Optimus Prime, and personally destroyed two [[guardian robot]]s with one blast in space gun mode. {{storylink|The War Within}} After Megatron's apparent death in an early space bridge test, the Decepticon faction splintered, with Starscream creating his own faction, the "[[Predacon (War Within)|Predacons]]," and Shockwave leading the Decepticons through the "[[Dark Age]]s" of Cybertron. During this period, his logic allowed him to put aside differences with Jetfire and the Autobots in order to defeat the greater evil of The [[Fallen]]. {{storylink|The War Within: The Dark Ages}} As the Dark Ages came to an end, Shockwave was ready to sign a peace treaty with Ratbat's [[Ultracon]]s and the Autobots, but the return of Megatron derailed the plan, though the [[Quintesson]]-created clones he brought back to the planet with him greatly intrigued Shockwave. {{storylink|The War Within: Age of Wrath}}

3000 years ago, Unicron's herald Scourge located the dead planet, and reactivated Shockwave for study purposes. {{storylink|Generation 1 #0}} However, when Shockwave was attacked by a swarm of [[Sharkticon]]s, Scourge intervened and saved him, {{storylink|Cold War}} only to be shot in the back by the Decepticon and captured. Dissecting and studying Scourge, Shockwave learned many secrets about the function and purpose of Transformers and Cybertron from the secrets hidden within him. Using that knowledge, Shockwave steadily worked to restore Cybertron, reactivating its population and solving their energy needs, ending the war and unifying the planet. He also continued his experiments into multiple transformations, yielding the unstable [[Duocon]]s, and then successfully mastering the process with [[Triple Changer]]s. Capturing [[Alpha Trion]], Shockwave sought to unlock the full secrets of [[Vector Sigma]], having already learned of the mysterious significance of Earth to the Transformer race. {{storylink|Revelation}} In preparation for the invasion of the planet, Shockwave subliminally influenced the population of Cybertron to become more violent, {{storylink|Passive Aggression}} and prevented the return of Optimus Prime and Megatron aboard the Ark II by having a [[Robert Hallo|human agent]] blow it up. {{storylink|Revelation}}

[[Image:Shockwavedwwarandpeace.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Deja vu all over again.]]
In 2003, Shockwave made his move, heading to Earth with his Triple Changer troops and capturing Megatron and Optimus's forces, planning to try the two leaders as war criminals. Megatron was jettisoned into space by Starscream, {{storylink|New World Order}} while Prime escaped from his clutches and fell in with a rebel group. {{storylink|Cold War}} Mobilizing the planet's Autobots, Prime led an attack on Shockwave's citadel, and confronted Shockwave himself, only to be defeated by the Decepticon, who ripped the Matrix from him. Using the Matrix to activate Vector Sigma, Shockwave downloaded the compressed contents of the mega-computer into his network, but before he had an opportunity to view the data, he was pulled into a battle with [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]]. In the course of the fight, the fuel line to his cannon was severed, and the resulting explosion destroyed his citadel and knocked him into a chasm. {{storylink|Revelation}}

While the rest of Cybertron believed Shockwave to be deceased, he had actually survived the explosion and gone underground in the wastelands of Cybertron. {{storylink|Lost and Found}} In addition to re-establishing communications with the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]] on Earth (who had been operating there as an advance squad preparing the way for his invasion), {{storylink|Extermination}} Shockwave continued his experimentation, resulting in the creation of [[Sixshot (G1)|Sixshot]]. Soon after, however, Megatron returned to Cybertron and bested Shockwave, {{storylink|Lost and Found}} taking him to Earth where he did the same to Starscream. But now, the three players were assembled, each knowing certain dark secrets of Cybertron's past... {{storylink|The Route of All Evil}}

===IDW comics continuity===

Earth was the first world he visited to plant the devices on. Before he could leave though, his ship was destroyed and the Dynobots teleported down to attack him. The concept of the Dynobots illogical behavior based off vengeance, along with the sheer force of their attack, left him off balance at first. Unable to win through logic, he developed thought patterns based off rage. This more brutal, violent Shockwave decimated the Dynobots, burning off the organic coatings shielding them from the planet's high energon fields, forcing them into [[stasis lock]]. Deactivating his new 'rage' program for further study, Shockwave was prevented by leaving the planet by a dead man's switch on the Dynobots' ship. A massive beam of energy plowed into the ground, causing a volcanic eruption which consumed Shockwave and the Dynobots. {{storylink|Spotlight #1 Shockwave|Shockwave Spotlight}}

Megatron became suspicious of Shockwave's absence and assigned [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]] to search through Shockwave's files. Bludgeon's findings later inspired him in part to reattempt [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]]'s mad plot which had, in the meantime, left their planet uninhabitable. {{storylink|Stormbringer (comics)|Stormbringer}}

He has limited articulation (neck and shoulder swivels only), but he's so cute it doesn't matter. He was available in a two-pack with a similarly lovable version of [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]].
==Trivia==

Eve Trailbraker was shown with two hands.

* Shockwave is, of course, the basis for the ''[[Energon (franchise)|Energon]]'' Decepticon [[homage]] character [[Shockblast (Energon)|Shockblast]].
[[Image:JoeTF3.jpg|thumb|150px|The biggest crisis is coming to Earth.]]
* Shockwave bears the rather strange distinction of receiving a number of particularly high quality [[knockoff|knockoffs]], all of which known retain the electronics and some even having odd [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_Gordon Flash Gordonesque] [[retool|retools]].

Several Autobots and Decepticons find themselves battling over a planet whose civilization completely revolves around music, and whose inhabitants are capable of using sound as a powerful weapon.

==Detailed synopsis==

[[Image:zeebop.jpg|thumb|right|250px|Don we now our gay apparel...]]

[[Eurhythma]], a planet whose culture is based entirely on music, is threatened by a comet. [[Zebop Skandana]] joins fellow Eurythmans [[Allegra]] and [[Basso Profundo]] to use their combined harmonic weapon to destroy the comet, inadvertently shooting down a number of [[Autobot|Autobots]] and [[Decepticon]]s.

After [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] and [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] collapse a bridge on [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]], [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] and [[Broadside (G1)|Broadside]], Zebop joins a number of other citizens to revive the Autobots. He then leads them to Allegra's retreat, where they find that Galvatron has beaten them there and swayed Allegra to their side. When Soundwave uses Allegra's third of the harmony against them, Zebop counters with his own third, which Soundwave then records and combines with Allegra's, plunging Zebop and the Autobots into a chasm. As the Autobots pull themselves up, Galvatron turns on Allegra, prompting Zebop to run onto the battlefield to save her. While he is successful, he is accidentally crushed by Blaster and Soundwave in the process, but is harmonically revived by a tearful Allegra soon after.

Returning to the capital city, the Autobots discover the fallen forms of [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] and the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]], who Zebop, Allegra, and Basso heal. The three returned to [[Earth]] with the Autobots, where Galvatron and Soundwave were overwhelming [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] with the stolen harmony. The trio of aliens countered it with [[anti-sound]], giving Blaster enough time to erase the harmony from Soundwave's tapes. With the battle concluded, Zebop returns to his world with the others, vowing to live in harmony.

===Animation and/or technical glitches===

* This is what you get when you combine all bloopers into 1 episode.

===Continuity errors===
[[Image:DeceptiBrawn1.jpg|right|250px|thumb|"I owed the Decepticons a solid after they raised me from the dead."]]
* In one infamous scene, [[Brawn]] shows up not only alive and well, but fighting for the Decepticons. In the same shot, a bizarre fusion of [[Gears]] and [[Huffer]] has also switched sides!

===Real-world references===
* The Eurhythman characters' names are all music-related puns.

===Miscellaneous trivia===
* "Carnage in C-Minor" is widely regarded by fans as the worst episode of the Generation 1 cartoon (and one of the worst episodes of any TF series to date), but this is seemingly due to the sheer volume of animation errors, and the glaringly obvious nature of many of the individual errors. However, the actual ''plot'' is certainly not the weakest to grace the cartoon series, and its "continuity errors" have little to nothing to do with the script itself... certainly not to the level of, say, "[[B.O.T.]]".

* This was one of several episodes subjected to the [[MSTF]] treatment at [[BotCon 1999]].

* Some fans refer to this episode as the "Gay episode" Due to the feminine attitude of both Soundwave and Blaster when they hear the harmony, A scene where it appears Galvatron and Soundwave are holding hands while flying and the look on Galvatron's face through the entire episode.

'''Original Air Date:''' Saturday December 15, 1984

==Summary==
A busy construction site is attacked by driverless construction equipment, and several components are stolen. The construction vehicles return to Decepticon headquarters and are revealed to be the newly built Constructicons. The components they stole are parts to a machine that will allow Megatron to absorb the [[power chip rectifier]]s from his [[Decepticon]] warriors.

While the final preparations are completed on the machine, Megatron flies to [[Autobot]] headquarters and makes Optimus Prime an offer he can’t refuse. Megatron offers Prime a one on one battle with the winner staying on [[Earth]] to do as he pleases, and the loser taking his army and exiling themselves to deep space. Prime, confident in his own abilities, accepts the challenge and sets the match.

Knowing that Prime would be unable to resist a chance to honorably end their conflict, Megatron returns to the Decepticon base and uses the newly completed machine to gain all of the special powers of his warriors. [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]]’s teleportation, [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]]’s sonic boom, [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]]’s seismic attack, etc. Knowing that Megatron would now be unbeatable, Starscream voices concerns that the Autobot computer [[Teletraan I]] would be able to detect what Megatron had done. Anticipating this problem, Megatron dispatches the Constructicons to take care of the computer.

The two armies arrive at the battle site, and the contest begins. Megatron unleashes a barrage of powers, (while Starscream gives a running commentary) and Prime is outclassed at every step. Not knowing that he has been deceived, Prime concedes the fight and comments that he underestimated Megatron. The shocked Autobots begin the trek back to base, and the Decepticons follow to make sure they leave.

Meanwhile, the Constructicons have nearly tunneled their way into the [[Ark]] and Teletraan-I. Teletraan-I, sensing the imminent danger, activates the Dinobots. The Dinobots respond and start pounding on the Constructicons opening up a lava channel in the process. The battle not going in their favor, the Constructicons pull out one last trick and combine into the super warrior, [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]]. The returning Autobots see the battle, but are unable to help. Inside the Ark, Teletraan-I is able to show that Megatron cheated, and the Autobots rush outside to help the Dinobots.

Distracted by one of [[Hound (G1)|Hound]]’s holograms, Devastator is shot by Optimus Prime and falls apart and into the lava. The other Decepticons are routed by the Autobots and also pushed into the lava. There is much rejoicing.
*The Constructicons' origin would be one of the most confusing and inconsistent of the series. Further complicating the Constructicons origins is a flashback in [[Five Faces of Darkness, Part Four]] where the Constructicons are shown creating Megatron, which contradicts both origin stories.
