A voracious and fearless robot. Though he originated as just another [[Sharkticon]], '''Gnaw''' seems to be loyal only to the one who fed him last, be they [[Quintesson]], [[Decepticon]], or even [[Autobot]]. He has a voracious appetite. In recent times he's befriended the young Autobot [[Wheelie]] and seems fairly loyal and devoted to the boy.

During the [[Great Shutdown]], the [[Quintesson]]s sent swarms of [[Sharkticon (G1)|Sharkticon]]s to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] for an unknown purpose, possibly to infiltrate and conquer the planet (again). Some of them encountered the revived [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]], [[Unicron]]'s chief agent. Gnaw was damaged, presumably in battle with these two, and was abandoned on Cybertron when the other Sharkticons were called home. Following the great revival, an amnesiac Gnaw came across the young Autobot named [[Wheelie]], and the two formed a strong bond. Gnaw later followed Wheelie in joining the resistance movement alongside [[Hot Rod]], [[Kup]] and several others.

He saved [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] from the [[Battlecharger]]s in his own... unique style (Tastes great! Less filling!). Gnaw took Prime to his resistance group, but when Prime awoke, his first sight was Gnaw, who he thought was trying to eat him, and attacked. Wheelie took this poorly, and bit Prime's foot. Obviously the little guy and the Sharkticon have been hanging around each other for too long. Gnaw was last seen working with Wheelie under [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]]' command on Cybertron.

: Gnaw transforms into something that looks like a cross between a shark and a frog. A frark, perhaps. His tail separates to become a mace for his robot mode. There is a minor variation to the toy. In some releases, his beast-mode legs are held together by three screws, where others are held together by two.

: Some releases of Gnaw also came with one of four pieces to a ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'' poster with glow-in-the-dark elements.

* Gnaw/Sharkticon was ''barely'' released in Japan. At first, he was a promotional item as part of a [[Beastformer]] giveaway. He was later made available in limited quantities, seemingly in US packaging, as a mail-away item during 1988's ''[[Masterforce]]'' series.

==Synopsis==

Vector Prime is [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s guardian of space-time. One of [[Primus]]' first 13 Transformers, he is one of the few that has not abandoned his job in the millennia that have passed. He tells us the nature of the balance between Primus and his eternal enemy [[Unicron]]. In a series of flashbacks, he shows us the highlights and dark points of his career:
* [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] opening the Matrix on a [[hate plague]]-infected [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]], [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]], a scene from [[The Return of Optimus Prime]].
* [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] taunting the captured head of Optimus Prime while [[Buster Witwicky]] looks on, taken from a storyline in the early [[Marvel Comics]] stories.
* [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] firing on the head of Optimus Prime in the midst of the [[Beast Wars]], creating a time storm, during which Vector Prime must intervene to aid Prime's recovery.
* A blast from [[Octopunch (G1)|Octopunch]]'s gun ricocheting off [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] and awakening the sleeping Primus, whose scream awakens Unicron, as seen in the Marvel Comics issue [[Primal Scream]].

We learn that the very existence of Unicron contaminates the space-time continuum around him, and that Vector Prime would, for periods of time, follow Unicron's wake, attempting to prevent and repair what damage he could.

Finally, we see Unicron in his [[Armada]] body being attacked by swarms of [[Autobot]]s and [[Decepticon]]s, and his subsequent deactivation. In the present, [[Vector Sigma]] alerts Vector Prime of Unicron's collapse into a grand Black Hole and its threat to Cybertron. For the first time in millions of years, Vector Prime returns to his home planet.

*This issue shows us many key points in previous Transformers stories from across the original comics, the original cartoon, Beast Wars, and the Armada television series. It establishes that there is one Unicron across the multiple continuities, and that Vector Prime travels through all of Transformers history.
*One of the silhouettes of the first 12 Transformers that stands behind Vector Prime in his first panel appears to be that of [[The Fallen]].
*In the scenes of early Cybertron, we see the return of a generic Transformer from the [[The Transformers (comic issue)|first issue]] of Marvel's Transformers comic book series, whom some fans have named [[Big Red]].
*The retelling of the Primal Scream portrays Primus differently than in the original comic. Instead of a tangible face sculpted into the wall, there is a ball of energy in which his screaming face appears.
