'''Apeface''' is a strong presence in any situation. He's loud, rude, obnoxious, and intimidating to everyone he meets. He dominates those around him with his attitude and fearsome countenance. There's some debate among his fellow Decepticons about how much of his behavior is an act, a gruesomely effective psychological tactic to control others and force them to fold under his demands. Others just think he was built that way. Whatever's going on inside Apeface's cerebral-circuitry, he's not saying. The only one he really gets along with is [[Snapdragon]].

As a [[Headmaster]], he is [[binary bonding|binary bonded]] to [[Spasma]]. Sucks to be Spasma.

Apeface appeared to be the leader of the "animals" under [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]]'s command. Or at least their spokesperson. Not that it matters, since when Apeface balked at a command to rip off his own head, Cyclonus <strike>pimp-slapped</strike> shot him and said "You will do as I say, or you will die!" Not way up there in the Decepticon hierarchy, Apeface is. Apeface was binary bonded to Spasma, who warned him not to get out of line. On Cybertron, Apeface was among Scorponok's crew of Decepticons. When their Autobot foes left for the planet Nebulos, the Decepticons followed. {{storylink|Broken Glass!}}

Not long after their arrival, Apeface and his pal Snapdragon were having fun terrorizing the natives in the city of [[Splendora]], until they were easily dispatched by two Autobot Headmasters. Though Scorponok berated the two for their failure, this latest defeat proved enough for him to reconsider the merits of the Headmaster process. Soon, Apeface was one of six Decepticons who underwent binary-bonding with the organic Nebulans to become a Headmaster. {{storylink|Love and Steel!}}

He and the others continued to terrorize Nebulos until the Decepticons left for Earth, pursuing Fortress Maximus's Autobots yet again. {{storylink|Brothers in Armor!!}}

During the battle between Scorponok and [[Ratbat]]'s crews, Apeface learned a valuable truth about himself: while he isn't ''quite'' willing to rip off his own arm and beat someone to death with it, he's also not one to ignore an opportunity when it presents itself. Apeface was quite amused by the [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]'s surrender to Scorponok on Earth, considering it a regular comedy show. {{storylink|Surrender!}}

Apeface was teleported to Cybertron along with countless other Transformers, where he somehow found a tasty banana to keep himself occupied while [[Emirate Xaaron|some stupid Autobot]] yammered on about [[Unicron|dark gods]] and [[Primus|creators]] and stuff. {{storylink|The Void! When the aforementioned dark god showed up at Cybertron a short while later, Apeface wasn't so amused. Like countless others, he fled in a panic. {{storylink|On the Edge of Extinction!}}

[[Image:ApefaceGrunk01.jpg|left|thumb|150px|GRUNK!]]"Ape Face" (as it is spelt in the comic) was one of the last few Decepticons remaining behind on Tau-Ursa when the Autobots arrived. He was investigating a crashed spaceship when he found a voice recording. Deducing that if the tape spoke it must be important, he resolved to take it to [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]].

At this moment he was attacked by [[Blurr (G1)|Blurr]] and [[Hot Rod]] who were intent on keeping him from escaping with the information. The triple changer loudly declared his intention to smash them (with a mighty cry of "GRUUUNK!"), and after knocking them to the ground similarly anounced he was transforming into jet mode. Chomedome is an academic at heart. He only joined the war effort after the Decepticons destroyed Cybertron's [[Institute for Higher Programming]] where he did his work. He's tried to use his skills as a programmer to bring an end to the war, but so far has only succeeded in instigating a programming "arms" race. Something of a classic computer programming nerd, he's often a frustration to his cool and very image-conscious [[Nebulan]] [[Headmaster]] partner, [[Stylor]]. He also suggested going on a "Leg Quest" after the Matrix-powered Thunderwing ripped off his leg. Funny, funny guy.

He was last seen fleeing in terror from [[Unicron]]. Whatever happened to him, it couldn't have been worse than what happened to [[Brainstorm (G1)|Brainstorm]], [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]], and [[Highbrow]] in the ensuing battle.
