:Thunderblast is a Decepticon from the Cybertron portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.

Thunderblast is obsessed with power. Not attaining it for herself, but rather, latching onto a "male" Transformer who has a lot of power. She follows the strongest Decepticon she can find, and the stronger they are, the more infatuated with him she is. As such, she is usually seen clinging to Galvatron (who certainly doesn't reciprocate). But as soon as the power structure shifts, so does the focus of her affections.

Though she's fickle and flighty (and greedy and selfish and opportunistic and vain and overconfident and...) she's not completely stupid. She knows how to use her wiles to get what she wants, and she's no slouch in combat, especially underwater. She knows Autobots are generally reluctant to shoot at a female and uses that to her advantage as long as she can... at least, long enough to give them a face full of missiles.

She seems to have something resembling an actual friendship with Lugnutz. And while she's generally disappointed if guys aren't fawning over her, she's found that she wants nothing to do with the geeky Shortround, who is infatuated with her. On the other end of the spectrum, she has quickly gained the undying hatred of the human girl Lori.

:Japanese name: Chromia
:Hungarian name: Mennykő (meaning Thunderbolt). Her name is never spoken, though, on the Ultimate Battle DVD, but her original voice actress from the Cybertron series reappears to play her role (the only actor/actress who returns for the DVD for the same character)! ... only to speak one short line ... the rest of her dialog is performed by a male voice actor...

Thunderblast arrived on Earth in the colony ship Atlantis millions of years ago. While the Autobots watched over and guided human evolution, the Decepticons terrorized the humans, inspiring the myths and legends of old; Thunderblast was the inspiration for the myth of Lorelei, and possibly the Sirens. These "monsters" were rounded up by the "monster hunter" Crosswise, who locked the criminals up inside a prison located in the center of the Earth (called the "Earth's Navel"), where they stayed until they were released by Starscream in the present day.

Thunderblast and Lugnutz defended Starscream's volcano-island base from the Autobots and Decepticons... up to a point. While Lugnutz decided to simply wander away from the "heavy scene", Thunderblast found herself less-than-impressed with Starscream, and took to following Megatron (whose power was just soooooo dreamy), joining his forces as they journeyed to Cybertron, which transformed into Primus' gargantuan robot mode.

There, while admiring her looks in a mirrored satellite, she was interrupted by a super-sized Starscream, who gave her the choice to steal the Omega Lock or get blasted to smithereens. She took the former option, but managed to weasel her way out of it by lying to Starscream, luring him planetside, then told Megatron that she was ordered to attack him. Starscream arrived and the two bickered, until they were interrupted by Optimus Prime and Wing Saber. All parties involved rocketed off to fight, leaving her free to wander off unperturbed. Escape (episode) Shortly afterwards, she tracked Jetfire and Wing Saber, leading Megatron to the missing Atlantis starship. Titans

When Megatron returned from the fire dimension, Thunderblast and the others continued to follow him, all the way to Gigantion. There, when she teamed up with Scourge in a hunt for the planet's Cyber Planet Key, they ran across an Autobot party consisting of Override, Wing Saber and the human Lori. Thunderblast and Lori very quickly got on each others' nerves, both browbeating Scourge, and when Thunderblast took off, Lori scared Wing Saber into following, leaving Scourge and Override to duke it out.

Wing Saber chased Thunderblast through the lower levels, but it was a trap, since the Decepticon was leading them to a harbor area, and water-combat was Thunderblast's element. Wind Saber took a fair pummeling, but Lori noticed a cluster of cranes, and she set them up so Wing Saber could lure the overconfident "floozy" (Lori's words). Thunderblast was crushed under a half-dozen massive claws, and Wing Saber took the chance to blast her while she was down, the explosion sending her flying away uncontrollably. Ambush

When Megatron (now Galvatron) and Starscream dueled over the Omega Lock and the four Cyber Planet Keys, Thunderblast briefly wondered if she was infatuated with the wrong 'bot. But when Galvatron emerged victorious, she followed him back to Cybertron happily. There, she and the few remaining Decepticons still loyal to Galvatron (Thundercracker, Ransack and Crumplezone) were given a boost of Omega Lock power, super-sizing them so they could take on the massed armies that had gathered from all of the colony worlds to oppose them. After being assaulted (and insulted) by Undermine and Brimstone, Thunderblast found herself going up against her old friend Lugnutz. Though she seemed shocked he'd side with the "good guys", she got over it pretty quickly and had no compunctions with trying to blow him away.

Ultimately, Galvatron's plot failed. Thunderblast realized that Galvatron was going to let her die in the cataclysm hat his plan would have caused, and along with the other now-de-powered Decepticons, ran off. When the rocket boosters that built on the Jungle Planet to push the world back to its normal place in the cosmos began to fail, the four Decepticons arrived, cackling... and helped with the efforts to keep the thrusters upright and functional, deciding to try being on the winning team for once.

Afterwards, Thunderblast, Ransack and Crumplezone went to each world, trying to find a place to fit in, and failing. (Thunderblast threw herself at about every strong male bot around, but looks like no-one was remotely interested.) When the Autobots were ready to begin their Space Bridge initiative, the trio built a rickety rocket, shanghaied the reluctant Thundercracker (who was really enjoying being an Autobot), and took off for parts unknown as the New Decepticon Army.

They made it as far as Mars before the rocket crashed.

Jetfire is probably the best second-in-command Optimus Prime could conceivably have. Jetfire is more than a yes-man; he's the crucial link between Prime's role-necessitated distance and his troops. Though professional and businesslike, Jetfire infuses his interactions with a down-to-earth friendliness. And where Optimus Prime is cautious, Jetfire is more prone to tempered bursts of gusto and bravado. While Optimus Prime is your leader who's your leader, Jetfire is your leader who's your friend. Because of this, Jetfire is very popular among the Autobots.

Most importantly, Jetfire is one of the only Autobots who will tell Optimus Prime to his face when he thinks he's wrong. It is this trait that makes Jetfire indispensable.

Jetfire has a long-lost brother Overcast, and while the two are quite similar in many ways, Jetfire is far more willing and eager to jump into battle than Overcast.

He has a Decepticon alter-ego, Sky Shadow, which he affects when doing undercover missions. He found the name in history archives which referred to a Sky Shadow from the legendary Beast Wars. Nobody's really sure how that works. Maybe it's that bloody Unicron Singularity's doing.

Jetfire was one of the reinforcements from Cybertron that Optimus Prime requested. He was quickly installed as second in command, but as everybody who had never served with him discovered, he was very different than Optimus Prime. Where Optimus was cautious and analytical, Jetfire was brash and headstrong to the point of recklessness, jumping into the unknown without considering the consequences. As a result, in his first major battle with the Decepticons, Jetfire decided to take all of their air forces on by himself, getting him into serious trouble.

Fortunately, Optimus Prime had recovered enough from his injuries to launch a surprise attack on the Decepticons and unleash his secret weapon - the ability to Powerlink with Jetfire, resulting in the powerful Jet Optimus. Tactician Link Up

During the ten years since the defeat of Unicron, Jetfire was upgraded into a new body with the capability to powerlink with other compatible robots. At first, Jetfire was not enthused at having the inexperienced and immature Ironhide part of their unit, or being his powerlinking partner, but the wild sky commander gradually grew to accept the younger Autobot's place in Optimus's personal command.

Jetfire served as a loyal soldier throughout the series, including nearly dying and being upgraded by Primus to finish the battle with Unicron.

After the second defeat of Unicron, Jetfire resettled on Nebulon for an indeterminate period of time. Over time, he adopted a local accent, one that sounded very vaguely like Earth-Australian to certain humans. He returned to Cybertron, his homeworld once again facing a monumental crisis, perhaps the worst in its history.

As a backup plan, Optimus Prime ordered Jetfire to visit Earth and provide them with scans of Earthen vehicle modes for the population of Cybertron to adopt. This was done so that should their primary plan of destroying the Unicron Singularity fail, the population of Cybertron could assume disguises and relocate to the human homeworld, whose inhabitants were still largely unaware of the existence of real Transformers. Fallen (Cybertron episode)

During the Cybertron's third great crisis, Jetfire would appeared to have mellowed in the past 20 years. He is considerably more cautious compared to his reckless youth, and adheres much more closely to orders and protocol. Perhaps all those brushes with death have finally knocked some sense into his head, or his head was replaced while on Nebulon.

After the final battle with Galvatron, peace spread across the galaxy. As part of a new initiative, Optimus Prime left aboard the starship Atlantis to chart new territory, leaving Jetfire in charge of planet Cybertron.
:Jetfire is a futuristic space shuttle molded primarily in white and gray with red paint stripes resembling the stripes seen on the original G1 Jetfire. His Mini-Con Comettor serves as his front landing gear and forward gun in vehicle mode. When Comettor (or any other Mini-Con) connected to the Powerlinx ports on his wings, a large red missile/bomb is dropped. When connected to Jetfire's main engine, two small wings are deployed for atmospheric flight. In robot mode Jetfire's rear landing gear becomes a shield, and his main engine forms his rifle.

:When the tail fin of Armada Jetfire's engine/weapon was pressed downward, it activates the original Generation 1 Autobot "laser" sound effect. Pressing the tail fin upwards (perhaps by placing the shuttle upright as if in launching mode) would activate a rather garbled blast-off countdown sequence. Both sounds are also incredibly easy to trigger. When a Mini-Con is powerlinxed to the gun/engine, a different laser gun sound is heard. Prior to the release of Powerlinx Jetfire, a running change erm, changed the sound effects.

:Jetfire could combine with the Super Base class Optimus Prime to form Jet Optimus, by replacing the regular Super mode trailer legs and attaching Jetfire's shield onto Prime's chest. ==Trivia==
* The Armada Jetfire toy's appearance and transformation sequence is an homage to Generation 1 Galaxy Shuttle. This was confirmed by then-head designer Aaron Archer during his stint as 'ORSON' on the TFW2005.com boards.

* Much like the Armada Red Alert toy's 'Woo-woo-woo' sound effect, the Armada Jetfire toy's original countdown sound effect briefly became something of an in-joke within the Transformers fan community.

* Jetfire's Cybertron toy appears (in plane mode) on the screen of the Hasbro version of the Real Gear Robots toy Power Up VT6.

*Note that Cybertron Jetfire's name in Japanese "Dreadlock", similar to "Grimlock". Both names are composed by "fear-relative adjective + lock". Besides, Dreadlock is Cybertron Optimus Prime's Second-in-command, much resemble Grimlock's status in Marvel Continuity. Finally, their both have goggle eye and non-human . It is the reason that some fan believe Dreadlock is an equivalent character of Grimlock in Japanese Unicron Trilogy Continuity. (But the truth is, IT's merely an extrapolation.)
Among the many worlds that fell to the unending hunger of the world-eater, Unicron, was one little sphere known as Planet Q. This world would not go quietly, however, as its armies fought back valiantly, but it soon it became apparent that they would not be able to stop Unicron. The planet's grand chamberlain resigned himself to his world's fate, choosing a suicide ploy. The chamberlain instructed the planet's ruler to detonate Planet Q's core, but when the ruler could not, the chamberlain committed the act himself, destroying the planet as Unicron consumed it. The explosion failed to destroy Unicron, but it did heavily damage him, forcing him into a state of dormancy. And within Unicron's slumbering husk, the spark of Planet Q's ruler continued to exist.

Driven mad by the solitary existence over the ensuing years, the mind of Planet Q's ruler fractured, splintering into five separate personalities. From Unicron's body, it sculpted for itself a new, armored form out of the "bones" of his devoured subjects, with four rotating face masks, through which each one of his personalities found voice, with his fifth personality - his original, true face - hidden away inside him, speaking only when the armour was closed, concealing his face from view. But within the shattered mind of the insane being that now called itself "Alpha Q," a kernel of genius existed - Alpha Q had discovered that, through the power of energon, all that Unicron had consumed could be reconstituted. And so, using what little energon he had, he recreated the armies of Planet Q as the Terrorcons, and sent them to Earth to gather energon for his plan.

After the first few strikes by the Terrorcons, Alpha Q recreated the grand chamberlain in the form of Scorponok, in order to turn the Decepticons working with the Autobots to his side. However, when Megatron engineered his own resurrection, Alpha Q was forced to flee Unicron's body in his head, and subsequently made a failed attempt to destroy Megatron by using the last of his Energon to recreate Starscream. When Megatron flushed Scorponok out as Alpha Q's mole, Rodimus and his crew - whom Alpha Q had previously encountered and convinced of his plan - rescued him, leading to an alliance between Alpha Q and the Autobots, brokered by the human boy, Chad "Kicker" Jones. Alpha Q initially refused to work with Kicker, but Misha, through slightly kinder and more diplomatic words, was able to sway him. During Megatron's attack on Cybertron with Unicron's body, Alpha Q drove Unicron's head - now charged with the positive Energon of Earth - into the body, where it reacted with the negative Energon contained within, tearing open a fissure in space. In the new region of space that the fissure lead to, Alpha Q was able to recreate all the worlds, as he had set out to do, cultivating and sustaining them from his place within Unicron's head, which had now become a glowing energon sun. However, when Megatron succeeded in reactivating Unicron's body, he had it reclaim the chaos-bringer's head, extinguishing the sun and killing Alpha Q in the process.

Kicker recovered Alpha Q's body from within Unicron, and laid it to rest on Grass Planet. However, Alpha Q's spirit continued to observe and comment on events until the end of the conflict.

A point worth noting is that the strong affection Alpha Q feels for Scorponok is not displayed as clearly in Energon as it is in Superlink. During the episode Scorponok's Scars (which was never translated or shown in America), he repeatedly referred to Scorponok as "my Scorponok" and showed him images of their home planet in an effort to reverse Megatron's brainwashing. As well, during the Special Dream Match, Alpha Q responded to Scorponok's statement of "I don't know you" with "say I love you", showing what seems to be some sort of surrogate parent/child emotional connection.

(Pre-production materials for Super-Link offer further details on Alpha Q's history that did not make it into the final version of the series. His original, true form was originally conceived as being the human-form princess of Planet Q, a young girl whose face would be the fifth and final face of Alpha Q, that would eventually be revealed when Kicker would "shatter her shell." The materials note, however, that if Hasbro vetoed the idea, the princess would be replaced with either a young prince, or simply a ball of light. Whether this veto occurred is unknown, but what is certain is that none of this was officially established in the finished show, and Alpha Q's fifth face remains hidden inside his closed armor.

There are, however, some vague reference to this material in the series. In Superlink, when Alpha Q speaks with his true voice, it is the voice of a young child. In contrast, in these scenes in Energon, a multi-layered voice is use, professing to be the voice of all lives lost in Planet Q's destruction. The vision of Planet Q's destruction viewed by Kicker, which showns Alpha Q and Scorponok existing as the same robotic entities they are in the present day, would appear to contradict this notion, but the scene is specifically described with a modifier by Kicker as being how "Alpha Q remembers that day," leaving wiggle-room, since Alpha Q is absolutely out of his tree.)

Dreamwave comics continuity
Energon
Alpha Quintesson began the war over Energon by providing the Terrorcon group -led by Scorponok- with enhanced powers and "Hyper Modes", sending them to the undefended Earth to drain it of the newly-discovered pure Energon ore. At the same time, he sent his four Horsemen (three Autobots and a Decepticon that had been captured and brainwashed before Unicron was defeated ten years previous) to Cybertron to wreak havoc, preventing the Autobots from getting to Earth.

Unfortunately for Alpha, the Horsemen were repelled by the Omnicons and the newly-enhanced Autobots, which gave them the time needed to reach Earth and sink the Terrorcons' plans. For a time, Alpha Quintesson's involvement in the war was minimal, but when he returned, it was in a big way; unleashing thouseands of Terrorcon drones to decimate Los Angeles, Tokyo, Toronto and Moscow.

But the Decepticons weren't the only ones Alpha Quintesson was working with towards his goal of restoring the shell of Unicron. Perhaps more dangerous than the Terrorcons was Alpha Quintesson's hidden ally, Avalon, a member of the High Council, Cybertron's ruling body!

(The Energon comic ended before its storyline was completed due to the bankruptcy of Dreamwave, and as such, the extent of Alpha Quintesson and Avalon's planning is, and may likely remain, unknown. What little we know hinted that perhaps Alpha Quintesson was not entirely happy in his forced servitude to Unicron, and was making plans to rectify the situation.)
*Alpha Quintesson (Mega, 2005)

:One of the last toys in the Energon line, Alpha Quintesson is fairly unique in that he is one of the only toys in the main Transformers line that does not...well, transform in any manner. (The Action Masters had transforming partners and vehicles, but Alpha doesn't. Sucks to be him.)

:The main gimmick involves his three different faces; pressing a trigger on the toy's back switches from face to face. The bed of tentacles that serves as the toy's base uses a gear-wheel system to spin his three bendable tentacles around when the toy is rolled forward or backwards. He also has a spring-loaded missile launcher that can be mounted on one of the numerous 5mm-wide weapon-ports on Alpha Quintesson's body. Each of these ports also doubles as a mounting point for an Energon chip.

:The release of this figure was also unusual in that it was not uncommon for the figure to be incorrectly assembled. Many would come without the hard point where the figure connected to the base, making it nigh impossible for the toy to stand up on its own.
But where his brother is a berserker, Six Shot is more of a shifty weasel who prefers to lie, connive, and back-stab rather than confront foes directly. Despite their differences, the two brothers appear to be loyal to each other. A mechanical engineer by trade, he is mainly out for himself, and enjoys causing chaos.
After many attempts to destroy Optimus Prime in defiance of Galvatron's orders, Six Shot rebelled and tried to race Galvatron to the super energon chamber. Nearly destroying Galvatron, Scorponok intervened and fought Six Shot to a standstill just long enough for a repowered Galvatron, now several stories tall, to emerge and stomp Six Shot to bits for his treason.
Six Shot designed many weapons systems on Cybertron, including the large particle cannons that he and his brother Shockblast use so effectively. During the training program in "Distribution", Six Shot was actually able to hack into the Autobot's training program and allow some of his Decepticon allies to insert themselves into the simulation, as well as grant himself a sort of "God Mode" over the program code and create a simulation of his own brother to fight alongside him.
At some point, he saved the young "Mikey" Franklin from drowning in the Green River Rapids, leading to the young man's quest to learn just who saved him and why. Revelations (Cybertron episode)

Years later, after Starscream awakened the Ancient Decepticons, Evac reunited with Crosswise and moved to stop them. He then encountered Optimus Prime and his team, who they learned came from their ancient homeworld of Cybertron. Trap Invasion Evac and Crosswise both joined Prime's team, and under Optimus's orders went to find Earth's Cyber Planet Key - only to be ambushed by Starscream's army and to have the Key (and the Keys from Velocitron and Jungle Planet and the Omega Lock) stolen after a lengthy battle. Retreat After this battle, he was reunited with Franklin, who was now a Colonel in the United States military.

Evac would continue to follow the other Autobots, all the way to Cybertron and beyond. On Gigantion, he, along with Optimus Prime and Override, met Metroplex, the leader of the giant Transformers. After a long trek through the levels of Gigantion, and the return to Cybertron, Evac returned to Earth to survey the damage - and to free the recaptured Ancient Decepticons, who he promised freedom to for helping to fight Galvatron. Afterwards, Evac followed Optimus and the other planetary leaders into the black hole, where they defeated Galvatron with their combined power. End

The black hole was closed soon after, but the battle was not over. When Galvatron damaged the thruster meant to send Jungle Planet back to its original position in space, Evac was one of the scores of Transformers who tried to right it again. After this succeeded, Evac and the others tried to help Optimus in his final battle with Galvatron, but all he and the others could do was watch. However, Galvatron was defeated anyway. Unfinished

After this, Evac considered his future with Crosswise, only for his former enemy, Lugnutz, to advise him to seek his fortune elsewhere. With Jungle Planet sage Backstop at his side, Evac took command of the starship Hyperborea in order to help with the new space bridge project, and left Crosswise in command of Earth.

Later, while on some unspecified adventure on an alien world, Evac used his rescue skills to help save several of his crew from an icy grave. Beginning
Hasbro Tech spec and key code info
Hasbro's bio states that Evac was entrusted with Earth's Cyber Planet Key, and that he wants to return to his home planet of Cybertron. In addition, his secret Key Code info reveals that he has taken a number of disguises over the years, which has included a blimp, 14 different kinds of helicopters, an army jet and a sleath jet, a bi-plane, and a propeller plane.

:(Note: Evac's tech spec bio presents a bit of discontinuity between his portrayal in the television series, as he professes to have never been to Cybertron, and that to him and Crosswise, it was only a legend.)

: Evac transforms into a Eurocopter Dauphin rescue helicopter. His rotor blades spin using a geared push-button, which becomes a spinning-blade weapon mounted on his robot mode's left arm. He has an adjustable tow-hook on a string, which retracts with the push of a button: this gimmick ends up on his right robot-mode arm. Inserting a Cyber Planet Key into his back end (backpack in robot mode) swings around a pair of spring-loaded missile launchers.

: He came with a gold-bordered Earth-style Cyber Planet Key; the Hasbro release has the Key Code "v49u" on the back.

: In 2006, Target stores got special exclusive versions of the current Voyager-Class toys (Evac, Leobreaker and Mudflap) with a pair of bonus Mini-Cons. Evac came with Razorclaw and Steamhammer.

: This miniature version of the Evac toy came out in the second Legends of Cybertron assortment, when the line was still mainly released at "market six" stores. Interestingly enough, this version hit US store shelves before the larger one did!

: This mold was used to make Classics Whirl.

Trivia
* According to Aaron Archer, Evac was originally going to be a more sci-fi-styled, twin-tailed helicopter.
* Development sketches shown on the 2005 exclusive version of IDW's Infiltration #0 show some weapon ideas that were dropped for Evac. Among them were a pair of tow-hooks that would detach to become "Martial Arts Chain Whips", and making his rotor blades into a hand-held sword. The animated series actually had Evac use his rotors as a sword several times, but the finished toy is not capable of holding them this way even though they are detachable.
On the Ultimate Battle DVD special, Wing Dagger is called Tőrszárny, the most accurate of the translations (means "Dagger Wing"), but not the most fancy-sounding.

Fiction
Animated continuity
Energon
:Voice Actor: Colin Murdoch (US), Kouji Yusa (Japan)

Wing Dagger was a mere security guard on Cybertron, but when Shockblast killed his peer, Padlock, he got the chance to become something more. Pursuing Shockblast through the sky amongst the Energon towers, the Decepticon struck one with a beam, causing it to crash down upon Wing Dagger and Tidal Wave. Wing Dagger was destroyed, but his spark was taken to Primus. Primus, with the aid of Rad, restored the warrior. Reformatted into Wing Saber, he joined Optimus' team not only to find Energon, but to avenge the death of his friend.

Wing Saber, being reformatted and repowered by Primus himself, understood his task of being Optimus Prime's personal servant. Optimus Prime has reminded Wing Saber that he is not his property, and Wing Saber seems to have had issues finding out who he is. Wing Saber joined Optimus Supreme and the other Autobots in spark form to confront the massive Galvatron-Unicron being at the end of the Energon series.

Cybertron
:Voice Actor: Sam Vincent (US), (Japan) <br>
:Special Attacks: Flap Sword, Galaxy Caliber

Wing Saber returned during the search for the Cyber Planet Keys, but with a new rebellious, irreverent edge. Having undergone a falling out in the brief period between Energon and Cybertron involving the life of a stranded astronaut, Wing Saber took off into space and returned after encountering the Omega Frequency wave after the Speed Planet Key was inserted into the Omega Lock on Earth. Wing Saber returned and showed signs of a new defiant attitude towards his former allies, but would quickly find himself part of the team again, which would lead to reviving his ability to combine with Optimus Prime to create their Sonic Wing Mode. Wing Saber would continue to aid the Autobots until the end of the series where he'd depart, and eventually encounter the mighty Starscream, who somehow survived his duel with Galavtron on the Giant Planet.

(Note: Sonic Bomber is not the same character as Energon Wing Saber in Galaxy Force.)
: Energon Wing Saber transforms into a Cybertronic "flying wing" jet. He disassembles into four portions, which attach to the limbs on the Super-class Energon Optimus Prime toy. When Wing Saber's upper-body parts and wings are attached to Prime's arms, they are in "Flight Mode", while the lower-body-as-arms configuration bring Wing Saber's non-firing cannons to the forefront, forming "Fight Mode".

: The Takara version predated the Hasbro release by several months. The two versions are largely identical, but Takara's has a greater number of more intricate paint applications.

: Cybertron Wing Saber transforms into a heavily-armed military plane based on an A-10 Thunderbolt. Plugging a Cyber Planet Key into the jack behind his cockpit exposes a pair of non-firing cannon barrels. His wing-flaps detach to form swords; for Wing Saber to use them, they need to be inserted into sword-handles that plug into 5mm holes in Wing Saber's forearms, as his hands are incompatible with the standard weapon-pegs. His removable spring-loaded missile launchers, mounted under his wings, can also be attached to those ports. He can also form a backpack for Optimus Prime's super mode, forming their "Sonic Wing Mode".

:The vast majority of the Takara GC-22 Sonic Bomber figures have a misaligned "nose guard" that can obscure the eyes in some cases. This problem was fixed for the Hasbro Wing Saber figure. The Sonic Bomber figure preceded Hasbro's Wing Saber by several months and has a slightly different deco. Differences include silver chromed saber blades and gold chromed chest shield. Minor changes were also made to graphics on the plane, such as an entirely red nosecone as opposed to Sonic Bomber's white, and smaller Autobot insignias on the wings.
Sonic Bomber received only very minor changes; The saber blades were changed from silver chrome to gold chrome, all red paint was changed to metallic red, the chest shield halves are now red chrome rather than gold. Benefitting from a Hasbro tweak, this version also has a properly aligned "nose guard".

*Optimus Prime and Wing Saber (2-pack, 2006)

:This set, consisting of totally unmodified versions of Cybertron Optimus Prime and Wing Saber, was released as a CostCo exclusive. The set also includes a DVD with the Cybertron episode United. This set comes in a particularly huge box, and retailed for $35.99, five dollars less than the MSRP for Optimus Prime by himself.

Trivia
* Energon Wing Saber was a toy-concept initated by Takara and left largely to their own design team to develop, though they had to follow various Hasbro price-point mandates. The toy was detail-designed by noted Japanese fan Hirofumi Ichikawa and incorporates elements of both fan-favorites Predaking and Star Saber.

* Ichikawa originally envisioned Wing Saber's personal weapon to be the Energon Saber. This was nixed by the animation production staff, however, along with many other toy-team concepts.

* Energon Wing Saber was originally named Superion Maximus for his western incarnation, but the name was shelved in favor of simply reusing the established Japanese name. "Superion Maximus" was reused for the combined form of the Energon Air Team shortly thereafter.

* Wing Saber's bio on Transformers.com, first appearing under the "Superion Maximus" title, was largely different from anything else, wherein "Wing Saber" was a venerable defender of high ranking Autobots and was the personal carrier of the Autobot high council.
Shockblast was held prisoner deep inside Cybertron, under near-constant supervision due to his status as a dangerous Decepticon war criminal. During a Decepticon uprising, Shockblast escaped and slaughtered most of the Autobot guards (while also inadvertently creating the Autobot hero who would be known as Wing Saber).

Megatron decided to add Shockblast to his team, and dispatched Tidal Wave to Cybertron. Unfortunately, Tidal Wave was fatally injured during Shockblast's riot (he was later reformatted into Mirage).
Shockblast joined the Decepticons and regarded Megatron with a high level of contempt. He made several attempts to overthrow Megatron and assume command of the team, all of which failed. In his final fight, Shockblast was crushed by the reactivated Unicron.

(Note: Although not heavily specified in the American series, the original Japanese series qouted that Shockblast (called Laserwave) was part of Tidal Wave's platoon during the previous battles. After eliminating their Autobot enemies, he grew bored and began to attack and destroy his own Decepticon allies, leading to Tidal Wave's animosity towards him. Shockblast and Six Shot were captured in between Armada and Energon for their continued attempts to keep the war going between the two factions, refusing to accept the newfound period of peace.)

Wheeljack is his own worst enemy. Something of a crackpot inventor, a good half of his creations blow up in his face, and that's just if he's lucky. He's simultaneously one of the Autobots' greatest assets and problems; for every successful gadget he builds, there's one which requires Ratchet or Hoist to put him (and his lab) back together. But once in a while he strikes gold, which has won him respect from even the Decepticons.

He is, however, not a complete nerd. As good as he is in the lab, Wheeljack is just as amazing on the road, since there're few stunts he can't pull off. He enjoys showing off both on the design table and on the streets.
(Events from the UK-only comics are in italics.)

In the Marvel UK Universe, Wheeljack survived the Battle of Autobot City, as seen by being strung up by Quintessons in 2008. He wasn't seen after that, though Blaster survived the same treatment.

Wheeljack was one of the original crew of Autobots aboard the Ark when it crashed into the Earth four million years ago. Originally a boxy-shaped transport affixed with retractable bumper-mounted cutting blades, Wheeljack was reformatted in 1984 to be a speedy and rare Lancia Stratos Turbo custom racing car. More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1

Wheeljack was part of the battle unit organized by Jazz to first challenge the re-awakened Decepticons on Earth. He was involved in the battle at an off-shore oil rig, where the Autobots would meet the Witwickys, human workers that would befriend the Autobots. Wheeljack developed an especially close friendship with Sparkplug Witwicky, as the two were both gifted mechanics. Wheeljack was next part of the team that attempted to stop the Decepticon plot to overload Sherman Dam.

A restless engineer, Wheeljack has developed all manner of contraptions and equipment for his personal use and for use by his fellow Autobots, often with catastrophic results. He designed the compact yet extremely powerful explosive that nearly trapped the Decepticons in the ruby crystal mines of Burma, a magnetic inducer device capable of stopping Transformers cold in their tracks, and a gyro-inhibitor shell that could incapacitate even Megatron for short spans.

Upon discovery of dinosaur bones in caverns within the Ark's volcano, Wheeljack and Ratchet were inspired to construct robotic version of dinosaurs. The Dinobots were originally too dangerous and too primitive to control, leading to Optimus Prime commanding that the project be abandoned, but Wheeljack secretly persisted. He developed memory components that increased the Dinobots' intelligence, turning them into valuable, if sometimes unpredictable, members of the Autobot forces. S.O.S. Dinobots

Concealed in Wheeljack's left wrist is a fire suppression system, which no doubt came in handy when one of his devices would blow up in his face.

Perhaps it was because Wheeljack was portrayed with an Italian American accent, that he was ultimately "whacked" in the feature film (see The Sopranos). Arcee pulled his lifeless chassis away from the battle to prevent the Decepticons from desecrating it. What a nice girl.

:(Note: Wheeljack has the distinction of being the first Transformer to appear in an episode of the animated series.)
Wheeljack, Perceptor and Minerva were summoned by Star Saber to save the life of the fallen Ginrai. They succeeded, transforming the former transtector into the mighty Victory Leo.

:(Note: Wheeljack's not-being-deadness is never addressed. Though to Japanese viewers during the original airings, this was not a noticeable discrepancy, as the movie where he died had not been shown in Japan until after Victory had aired. However, the original Movie storyboards show Smokescreen as the dead Autobot next to Windcharger). It is also possible that if Skids was successful with Operation: Distant Thunder then Wheeljack could have survived his apparent demise in the movie via Project Bodyshop.
Binaltech
When the Dinobots were injured in a Decepticon attack in the year 2005, Wheeljack headed to Earth to arrange the transplantation of Grimlock's mind into a new Binaltech body. On his return journey to the Autobot's moonbase, however, his shuttle was hijacked by time-tossed Decepticon Ravage, who had begun a plan to alter the course of history. Wheeljack was shown a brief glimpse of the near future - including the deaths of himself and many of his comrades - but managed to escape Ravage's clutches; Ravage himself promptly returned to Cybertron and exhumed the Kronosphere, using it to tip the balance of the decisive battle occurring at that time. Whereas the outcome would have originally favored the Decepticons, leading to their total conquest of Cybertron, Ravage ensured an Autobot victory, altering history and leaving the heroes to face the looming threat of Unicron alone.

Aware that history had been altered, Wheeljack was faced with a dilemma - should he stop Ravage's plan and restore the timestream, even though it would mean the death of many Autobots, including himself? His salvation, he hoped, lay in the GT System, a device that allowed a singular spark to simultaneously control many duplicate bodies. Dubbing his original body the "Alpha Unit," he constructed the "Beta Unit" based on Grimlock's Ford Mustang body, as well as the ominous third "Omega Unit," a mysterious body about which nothing is known.

The subsequent arrival of Unicron prompted the Autobots to initiate "Operation: Distant Thunder," which saw Skids use the chronal warp on Dinobot Island to send Wheeljack's memory data back in time, in hopes of alerting the Autobots in the past and preventing alteration to the timestream. The plan didn't go very well and only wound up throwing the timestream into a severe state of whack, until a mysterious black Optimus Prime appeared and sealed the time portals that had been created. Operation: Distant Thuner had succeeded in preventing the mainline timestream's operation, but had also preserved the Binaltech timeline as its own, distinct divergent universe.
Dreamwave comics continuity
Wheeljack suffers from a mild form of mode attachment, feeling more comfortable in his vehicle mode than robot mode. As a consequence he does his best thinking in vehicle mode, often while attempting something insanely dangerous.

Wheeljack was part of Grimlock's unit, along with Kup and Ironhide. When the Decepticons placed Iacon under siege, Grimlock took his group to Kaon to look for Optimus Prime, who had gone seeking Megatron. While there, they discovered planetary engine turbines that were providing power to a mechaforming process that was destroying Iacon. Arriving, Prime instructed Wheeljack to shut down the engines in a...creative way (it blowed up real good). The group managed to return to Iacon, where Prime halted his order to abandon the planet. The War Within

When Prime and Megatron disappeared during a space bridge explosion, Grimlock broke off from the Autobot army and formed the Lightning Strike Coalition, taking his former subordinates with him. While Kup and the Dynobots attacked the Predacons, Wheeljack and Ironhide hijacked some shuttles carrying raw Energon, making Starscream very angry. That's always a plus. The War Within: The Dark Ages

Wheeljack was one of the engineers that designed and constructed the Ark, and part of the ship's original crew.

In 1986, Ironhide and Ratchet discovered Wheeljack in pieces but functional after an explosion while bug-testing his neutron detonator shell.

Wheeljack was among the Transformers involved in the Ark II disaster. He survived the explosion of their spacecraft, crashing back to Earth where he and Trailbreaker lay deactivated and frozen within an iceberg until awakened by Optimus Prime. Prime Directive, Part 2

Wheeljack participated in the assault on Lazarus's Canadian Headquarters. When General Hallo's attempt to bomb the Autobots and the Decepticons out of existence instead caused a violent expansion of Megatron's cyber-virus, Wheeljack and Mirage were the first Autobots to free themselves. Prime Directive, Part 4

While Prime took some of the Autobots after Megatron, Wheeljack diagnosed the nature of the cyber-virus, and created a set of anti-viral blasters that used the Autobots' energy to return the converted matter to normal. The intervention of Canada's military force scuttled that plan when they fired into the virus, expanding it beyond the point the Autobots could contain. Prime Directive, Part 5

In response, Wheeljack converted a nearby satellite dish into a giant anti-viral weapon, channeling all of his remaining energy into it. He succeeded in destroying the virus, but was left near death. Prime Directive, Part 6

Six months later, Wheeljack came back online just in time to participate in the short-lived truce with the Deceptions and the assault on Las Vegas to destroy the Keepers. Keepers Trilogy

Later, when Shockwave and Ultra Magnus came to arrest the Autobots as war criminals, Wheeljack was one of the Autobots secretly left behind by Optimus Prime. War and Peace Like most of the rest of that group of Autobots, Wheeljack was beaten to the point of stasis lock by Bruticus some time later and dumped into a nearby swamp. He was dredged out by an EDC task force and repaired.

Wheeljack was also instrumental in the planning and construction of Autobot City.

IDW comics continuity
Wheeljack is part of a detachment of Autobots that has operated covertly on Earth for at least four years, attempting to foil a Decepticon insurgency. He appears to be continuing in his role of technical scientist and gadgeteer for the Autobot detachment; he builds a device that can interface the SM-40 palmtop computer with the systems aboard the Autobots' Ark-17 spacecraft.
Meanwhile, the head sculpt originally intended for Ford-Windcharger ended up being used for the remold of Windcharger (the Honda S2000 mold) instead, now named "Decepticharge".
:Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots in the Generation 1 continuity family. Before he became Optimus Prime, he was named alternatively Orion Pax or Optronix in certain continuities.

Optimus Prime is the awe-inspiring commander of the Autobot forces. Originally a mere civilian, he was chosen by the Matrix to lead, the first in a number of heavy burdens he has been forced to bear. Another is his bringing of the Transformers' conflict to Earth. The complete opposite of his mortal enemy Megatron, every casualty, human or Cybertronian, weighs heavily on his spark. He does not show this side to his soldiers, and he never succumbs to despair. The Autobots need a decisive, charismatic leader, and that is what he gives them. It was that leadership which turned the tide of the Great War.

On the battlefield, there are few who rival Optimus Prime's prowess. His ion blaster and his energon-axe are deadly weapons, though lacking when compared to others. He is easily the strongest of any Autobot his size, and what he lacks in raw firepower he easily compensates with guts. He would sacrifice his life to protect his fellow Autobots or those under their care, and has on a few occasions. His compassion for other sentient beings is his only real weakness, and one the Decepticons have taken advantage of time and again... though it's also the source of his strength!

Prime (usually) carries within him the Matrix of Leadership.

Before the Great War broke out on Cybertron, the robot who would be Optimus Prime (his name before becoming the Prime Autobot remains unknown) was a Transformer of note, displaying his skills in the Infraformers Sharp-shooting Competition. Subsequently, when the war began, Prime quickly made a name for himself as a combat leader. On a mission with the Triggerbots to stop Megatron from claiming the Underbase, Prime was forced to jettison the massive databank into space to prevent anyone acquiring its power, but with this action, proved his wisdom and skill to the Autobot Council of Elders. The outbreak of the Great War saw Autobot territories falling under Decepticon dominion, one City-State at a time. The last City-State to be taken was the Autobot capital of Iacon. As Decepticons besieged Iacon, the Council of Elders prepared to surrender. Councillor Xaaron suggested that High Councillor Traachon step down and allow a military officer to assume Autobot leadership. Traachon then used his powers of veto and effectively elected himself out of office, allowing Optimus Prime to assume supreme command of the Autobots, becoming the first soldier to ever hold the mantle of Autobot leadership.

Four million years ago, Cybertron - shaken from its orbit and drifting through space - came under threat when it floated into the path of a massive asteroid swarm that could potentially devastate the planet. Prime led a group of his most powerful Autobot warriors on the Autobot starship, the Ark, on a mission to destroy the asteroids, and although successful, in the aftermath of this mission the Ark was attacked by Decepticons, hoping to overcome their weakened foes. Intent on keeping the secrets of the Ark's computer, Auntie, from the Decepticons, Prime set the craft on a suicide course, crashing it into the prehistoric planet Earth.

In 1984 C.E., a volcanic eruption reactivated Auntie, which in turn brought the Transformers back on-line. Prime led the Autobots in their opening battles to prevent the Decepticons from plundering Earth's resources, but following their initial victory, the Autobots were all deactivated by Shockwave. Prime was decapitated by Shockwave, and had the energy of the Creation Matrix leeched from his mind to give life to Shockwave's creations, the Constructicons (although Shockwave was unaware that the Matrix was not merely a program in Prime's mind, but a physical object in his chest). Before Shockwave could give life to his next Decepticon, Jetfire, Prime transferred the Matrix energy into the mind of Buster Witwicky, who used the energy to turn Jetfire on Shockwave, allowing Prime to reclaim his body and retake leadership of the Autobots, giving Jetfire true life as a reward.

Optimus Prime began to consider whether he was too important to the Autobots, and if they could carry on should he fall. To alleve his doubts, he and a reluctant Wheeljack plotted to fake Prime's death to teach the Autobots how to fend for themselves. While Prime was setting up an imposter version of himself to leave behind destroyed for the Autobots to find, Megatron sent the Predacons to attack Prime. In an ironic twist, would the Autobots stumble across a genuine dead Prime?

After a period of effective leadership, Prime engaged Megatron in a video game duel for possession of a super fuel. Prime was victorious, but Megatron implemented a cheat code, allowing him to re-enter the game. Prime was able to defeat him yet again, but in doing so, he also destroyed several of the game sprites, and refused to accept his victory, as he had performed an action that compromised his beliefs about the preservation of life, which he would never have done, had the duel been real. In accordance with the rules of the game, Prime's body exploded and he died. Autobot surgeon Ratchet's subsequent efforts to restore him were unsuccessful, and his body was launched into space. The funeral barge eventually crashed on giant moon where it lay for untold time. At one stage, an alien ship crashed near the barge. The dying alien reached out toward the Matrix, with the Matrix choosing to revive the being as Death Bringer. Much later, the Matrix would revive a small predatory animal which would prove instrumental to the conclusion of the Matrix Quest.

Prime's personality had been copied onto a floppy disk by the technician running the game, Ethan Zachary, who employed him in various video game scenarios he developed. Prime's damaged mind led him to belive that he himself was a video game character, and in an attempt to bring him back to life, Goldbug, Joyride, Slapdash, and Getaway took the disk to the planet Nebulos, where a new body was constructed for Prime. They built a new body for Optimus Prime, and even upgraded it with the ability to combine with the trailer to form a larger robot. In an effort to keep Transformers off their planet, however, the Nebulans had poisoned their fuel, and the sensation of dying convinced Prime that he was truly alive, and not a game character. To save his life, the Nebulan scientist Hi-Q bonded with him, creating Powermaster Optimus Prime.

Powermaster Prime and his Autobots later battled Deathbringer. Optimus Prime immediately sensed Matrix energies emanating from Death Bringer, and realised that the undead reaper was a creation of the Matrix. Although Death Bringer proved to be invulnerable, Optimus Prime was finally able to defeat it by convincing it to self-destruct in concordance with its primary function. The battle with Death Bringer alerted Optimus Prime to the fact that his old body was still out there somewhere in space, and more importantly, that the Matrix that it carried was also with it. With a war to win, the location of the Matrix was not a high priority.

With the subsequent threat of Unicron looming, priorites quickly changed and Prime began a quest to locate his old body and the physical Matrix object within it. When the Matrix was successfully reacquired, Prime sacrificed his life one more time to destroy Unicron by plunging the Matrix into his maw. However, the Powermaster process had been working to fully bond Prime and Hi-Q, and with Prime now destroyed, the process completed itself in Hi-Q's body, and the two minds and souls became one. Hi-Q's biomechanical body was stripped down and reconstructed by the Last Autobot, creating a brand new Optimus Prime.
Prime was plagued by visions of the Swarm - a destructive by-product of Transformer reproduction - entering into an alliance with Megatron against it and the forces of the second-generation Cybertronians led by Jhiaxus. Prime's body was destroyed yet again when he confronted the Swarm, but upon releasing the energy of the Matrix into it, purifying it, Prime was reborn by the repentant creature. At the end of the battle, Prime’s dream of reuniting the two races of Transformers into a single force for good seemed to be a possibility when the Autobots and Decepticons fought side by side against a common foe.

Optimus Prime began his life as a robot named Orion Pax, a simple dock worker during the Golden Age of Cybertron nine million years ago, with a girlfriend named Ariel, and a best friend named Dion. At the time, a new breed of robot had recently appeared on the planet - ones with new robot-mode flight powers that made Orion idolize them. Unfortunately for Orion, when Megatron, the leader of these robots, approached him with inquiries about using one of the dock warehouses, Orion fell for the deception and he and Ariel were critically wounded when Megatron and his forces then attacked in order to claim the energy stored there. Searching for someone to help them, the time-displaced Aerialbots took Orion and Ariel to the ancient Autobot Alpha Trion, who used them as the first subjects for the new reconstruction process he had developed - rebuilding the frail Autobot frames into battle-hardy configurations. With this reconstruction, Orion Pax became Optimus Prime, the first of the Autobot warriors, who took the mantle of leadership as the civil war against Megatron and Decepticons erupted, while Ariel was rebuilt into Elita One, the commander of the Autobot resistance on Cybertron. War Dawn

As leader of the Autobots, Prime headed up the Autobots' mission to search out new worlds with new sources of energy to revitalise the depleted Cybertron. However, shortly after its launch, the Autobots' craft was attacked by the Decepticon space cruiser and boarded by Megatron and the Decepticons. In the ensuing struggle, the g-forces of a nearby planet pulled both crafts down, and the Autobots' ship crashed into a volcano, thrusting all the occupants of the ship into emergency stasis. Four million years later, in the Earth year 1984 C.E., a volcanic eruption jarred the ship's computer, Teletraan I back to life, and it reactivated the Decepticons, programming them with new Earth-based disguise modes. As a petty parting gesture, Starscream fired upon the Autobot ship, creating a landslide that knocked Prime into the path of the computer's restoration beam, restoring him to life, and beginning the war anew on Earth. More Than Meets The Eye, Part 1

Prime was perpetually at the forefront of the action throughout the early years of the war on Earth, usually confronting Megatron, and, in some rare instances, being forced to team up with him for the greater good (or the lesser evil). He has suffered his fair share of battlefield scrapes, almost meeting his end when his vital cosmotron component was critically damaged by the Decepticon jets and Laserbeak, and suffering a severe - though unfair - defeat when Megatron challenged him to one-on-one combat while imbued with the different powers of all the Decepticons.

Generally, Prime acting in a commanding role as part of larger battles and event, but played prominent and solo roles in a few, also. In 1985, Megatron created a perfect duplicate of him, leaving the Autobots unable to differentiate between the two until the clone disregarded the safety of their human companion, Spike Witwicky, exposing the deception. A Prime Problem Later in the same year, Prime's fame and prowess led him to become the target of the demented big-game hunter, Lord Chumley, who sought his head to go along with his other rare trophies. Entering the hunter's estate alone, Prime defeated all the traps and beasts lying in wait and brought Chumley to justice. Prime Target The same year also saw Elita One captured by the Decepticons on Cybertron and used to lure Prime there alone; although knowing it was a trap, he ventured in solo and was defeated by the Decepticons and nearly destroyed, until Elita's stasis-field powers froze time long enough for them to escape. Prime was forced to seek out Alpha Trion to save the wounded Elita's life, and in the process, rediscovered his forgotten connection to his creator. The Search for Alpha Trion When Megatron created the Stunticons, Prime decided to have the Aerialbots created as a countermeasure, though Alpha Trion gave his life by merging with Vector Sigma to ensure their creation. The Key to Vector Sigma For some reason, his memorial was also built 20 years before his death. Starscream's Brigade
During an energy raid on Tokyo, Optimus Prime and the Autobots met up with a young Japanese boy named Kenji, whose inventive mind helped them to defeat Menasor. As a token of thanks, Optimus Prime granted Kenji a special communications helmet and made him an official Autobot ally.

While showing Kenji around the Autobots' new Tokyo base, Optimus Prime lamented that he wished his "kid brother" Ultra Magnus would hurry up and arrive with his trailer upgrade. As he pondered the where-abouts of his sibling, the Decepticons attacked Yokohama. The Autobots hurried to the scene only to encounter an over-powered Megatron in his newest form: the Super Megatron Gun. The Autobots' defeat seemed assured until Magnus arrived with Prime's trailer upgrade, the Scramble Power Buster. The Scramble Power Buster trumped the might of the Super Megatron Gun, leaving Prime and Magnus to vanquish the Decepticon forces with their combined attack: the Double Cross Kick (basically, them jump-kicking the Decepticons in the spine at the same time).
Over the course of the next twenty years, the Decepticons succeeded in seizing control of all of Cybertron, forcing the Autobots to operate from their new city on Earth, and from two bases on Cybertron's moons. In the Earth year 2005 C.E., Prime was stationed on Moonbase One, and dispatched troops to Earth to acquire energy for an upcoming strike on Cybertron. The Decepticons, however, got wind of the plan and attacked the shuttle, killing its occupants. Their scheme was to use the shuttle to stage a surprise attack on Autobot City; an attack which almost suceeded if not for a distress call which summoned Prime and support troops to Earth.

Optimus Prime foresaw that his final battle with his arch-nemesis was looming, deciding that the Decepticons must be stopped, no matter the cost. Bravely, he plowed through the remaining Decepticon ranks, punishing them for every Autobot they killed overnight, before confronting Megatron. In the ensuing battle with Megatron, Optimus Prime sustained fatal injuries, but not before turning the tide of battle and forcing the Decepticon to flee. Despite the efforts of Perceptor, Optimus Prime could not be saved. Knowing his time had come, he passed the Matrix of Leadership, and with it leadership of the Autobots, into the hands of Ultra Magnus, Which later Hot Rod obtained (The spirit of Optimus Prime within the Matrix turned Hot Rod into Rodimus Prime to even the fight between him and Galvatron). With his last ounce of energy, he muttered the Autobot rallycry, then died. Transformers: The Movie
Teletraan Go! Go! comics (Japan-only)
Shortly before the Unicron War of 2005, an unknown saboteur badly damaged Teletraan I's databanks. Optimus Prime notified his Autobots of the attack and issued a command that the information be recovered as soon as possible. "Black Panther Man," stationed on the artificial Earth satellite Nana, volunteered for the important task and assigned Teletraan 15 to the case.

Teletraan 15 later traveled to the future, where Micromaster Hot Rod saved her from a Novaroid. As Dark Nova and Ultra Megatron prepared to merge, Star Convoy arrived and asked Hot Rod to aid him in the coming fight. But before they could start the battle, an interruption came from an unexpected source: Galvatron emerged from a Transwarp portal and attacked!
On another mission into the future, Teletraan 15 and her companion Steeljaw were aboard Jetfire as he was attacked by the Decepticon jets Smokescreen and Dreadwing on his way to his commander. Fortunately for them, Battle Convoy (a.k.a. Laser Optimus Prime) appeared and severed Dreadwing's wing with a single mighty slash of his sword. Teletraan 15 thought that he looked sad and wondered if he had learned his sword skills during his Kiss Player days.
Note: Kiss Players is set in 2006 and 2007, in the first part of the 4-year gap between Transformers the Movie and Season 3 created by the latter being entitled Transformers 2010 in Japan.

In the year 1985, as Optimus Prime prepared to face his enemy Megatron atop the Sherman Dam, Brave Maximus Fortress materialized nearby with an unusual crew on board. Undetected by the Autobot leader, three human pop singers had arrived from more than 20 years in the future, brought there by the mysterious Sparkbots. When the Kiss Player Marissa Faireborn kissed Prime, who was unable to detect her presence, a fragment of what she believed to be the Allspark emerged from his chest. With their prize secured, the time travelers continued on their time-hopping adventure.

Later, Prime would save the life of a young Marissa, leading to the human girl's lifelong romantic crush on the Autobot leader.

In 2006, following Prime's death in the Battle of Autobot City in America and the devastation of Tokyo by the Galvatron impact event the year before, his corpse was covertly flown to Japan by the anti-Transformers organization called the Earth Defense Command. Soon thereafter, as the E.D.C. transported Prime's body by truck, its convoy was ambushed by a group of young female resistance commandos. Believing that they had secured Prime's body, the commandos were taken by surprise and slaughtered by the Ne squad Kiss Player Ringo and her Autrooper partner, who burst out of the torso of the false Prime.

(Note: The fake Prime corpse was represented in art by the Masterpiece Convoy toy with an E.D.C. logo attached over its Autobot symbol. The real Optimus Prime was illustrated as the original toy.)

Marissa Faireborn, the sole surviving member of the squad, discovered that the true body was being transported within Prime's nearby cargo trailer. Slicing the trailer open, she was too late to prevent an E.D.C. Autrooper from partially fusing with Prime. Reflecting on her childhood memories of playing with the kindly Autobot leader, Marissa lovingly kissed his faceplate. In an explosion of energy that destroyed the trailer, the two fused and Prime was reborn in a new, living body. The pair had become Kiss Players!

And then they started dating.

Marissa enjoyed washing Prime, especially his... um... stick shift and the rim of his gas tank. Which made Prime shudder and moan.

Eww.

(Another Note: This is all actually part of the official fiction. Really.)

In addition to his ion blaster, Prime soon gained a weapon that he originally named the High Frequency Blade: a sword that he created from Marissa's beloved pink surfboard. Marissa hated the name, however, and renamed it the "Surf Blade". Naturally, Prime agreed to this, because really, what're you gonna do? Women, am I right, fellas?

As fugitives from the E.D.C., Prime and Marissa spent their days on the run and their nights hanging out at the beach. He longed for the day when he would be able to see her bathing in the sun, rather than the moonlight, although he also thought that all the soft-serve ice cream she was eating was making her a little fat.

One night while Marissa was surfing, she had a squid latch onto her. Then a Legion that had infused itself with both an octopus and shipwreck attacked her. With tentacles. Prime fought it off and saved Marissa, but the E.D.C. Autroopers were soon dispatched to the scene, and the two had to beat a hasty retreat.

Over the months that followed, Prime and Marissa battled Legions, led Legions (due to the Galvatron-infused cells inside Prime's new body, which sometimes overcame him with nightmares about his old enemy Megatron), fled from Hot Rod, who believed Prime to be an impersonator of his dead commander, and both fought and fled from the E.D.C.

Finally, teaming up with Hot Rod and his Kiss Player partner Shaoshao Li (who had adored Marissa since childhood and hated Prime for stealing her friend's affections), and the E.D.C. Kiss Player Atari Hitotonari with her Autrooper partner, Prime and Marissa entered the secret experimental facility beneath the Tokyo headquarters of the E.D.C. and discovered the sinister truth behind the shadowy organization. Everything that had occurred was part of an attempt by E.D.C. commander Amao to resurrect her daughter, who had been killed in the 2005 catastrophe. Finding Galvatron's headless corpse imprisoned in the facility, the Kiss Players realized that the only way to repair things was to return the Unicron-created Decepticon's cells. Galvatron's body absorbed the Legions, the Autroopers, and the cells inside Prime and Hot Rod, who were returned to their former forms...which meant that Prime was once again dead.

Years later, after he had again been returned to life, Prime (and Goldbug) helped the time-traveling Marissa once more by rescuing her and her friends from the Sharkticon pit on Quintessa.

Prime's body was entombed in a massive deep-space mausoleum with the many other fallen Autobots, but his corpse was desecrated by the Quintessons in 2006(2010 if you go by Japan's fiction), when they reanimated it as part of an attempt to destroy the Autobots by using Prime to lure their space fleet into a trap. However, the Matrix was able to purify Prime of the Quintesson influence, and he got the other Autobots clear while he piloted his flagship into the Quintessons' detonator, triggering the explosion of a nearby sun.Dark Awakening

Prime was believed to have been destroyed in the explosion, but in reality, before the flagship impacted with the detonator, his body was recovered from the craft by two human scientists, Jessica Morgan and Dr. Gregory Swafford. However, as their ship departed, it was coated in solar spores released by the explosion of the sun. Jessica's father, Dr. Mark Morgan, loathed the Autobots, and his hatred only grew when an attempt by the Decepticons to steal a heat-resistant alloy he had developed resulted in Jessica being paralyzed. Swafford and Morgan reconstructed Optimus Prime's body in an attempt to use it as a delivery system for the spores, which induced hatred and madness, in order to destroy the Transformers. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1

However, when they could not reanimate him, they used his body as a lure instead, bringing the Autobots to their lab, where they were infected. As this "Hate Plague" proceeded to spread across the galaxy, Sky Lynx retrieved a Quintesson, who fully restored Optimus Prime to life. Coating himself in Morgan's heat-resistant alloy, Prime reclaimed the Matrix from Rodimus and unleashed its concentrated wisdom to destroy the Hate Plague. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2

(Note: There is a considerable continuity error concerning zombie Optimus. At the end of "Dark Awakening", Optimus is in pretty rough shape (as the screen shot shows), missing an arm, part of his face, a sizable portion of his shoulder, covered with cosmetic damage, etc. He is also apparently fully conscious as he flies the ship into the Quintesson trap as it is being ripped apart by laser fire. However, when he is discovered in "The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1", he's both whole and shining new, and apparently comatose. There is no hint whatsoever of the battle that took place only minutes previous, no Quintesson laser-fire piercing Prime's pristine ship. Plus, the sun in question is about to go nova naturally rather than by Quintesson design, which is why Morgan and Swafford were there in the first place.)
Rebirth (America-only)
In 2007, Prime began to suffer visions following the release of the Matrix's energy, which foretold a great transformation for Cybertron. Events began with the Decepticons' theft of the key to the Plasma Energy Chamber, which forced Prime to consult Alpha Trion within Vector Sigma, learning that the mega-computer had orchestrated events in order to restore Cybertron's Golden Age. When the Plasma Energy Chamber was opened and threatened to drive Earth's Sun supernova, Spike Witwicky and the other organic Nebulans who had become involved in the conflict as a result of these events were able to drain off the excess solar energy and revitalize Cybertron.

One year after Prime's resurrection, the Autobots had entered into an even closer relationship with Earth and began the colonization of other worlds, the first of which was the planet Athenia, where Optimus Prime was stationed. It soon became apparent, however, that when Prime had released the energy of the Matrix to cure the Hate Plague, the consequences were more far-reaching than he had anticipated - without the energy of the Matrix to act as a balancing factor, Vector Sigma had become destabilized, and the Decepticons suddenly returned to exploit this, assaulting Cybertron in order to seize control of the mega-computer. Prime took a squad of troops to aid in the battle on the planet, and when the arrival of the Autobot Headmasters tipped the battle in their favor, Prime broke off from the main attack and headed down into the depths of the planet, planning on stabilizing Vector Sigma at any cost.

Guided through the dangers of the planet's catacombs by the spirit of Alpha Trion while the other Autobots searched for the Matrix on Earth, Prime eventually arrived at the computer, only to find his way barred by Cyclonus and Scourge. Hot Rod then arrived with the Matrix, with which Alpha Trion merged, re-energizing it and transforming Hot Rod back into Rodimus Prime; for the first time, the two Primes fought side-by-side and defeated Galvatron.

Before Rodimus could implement the Matrix to stabilize Vector Sigma, however, Optimus Prime sacrificed himself to perform the task, merging with the computer and restoring its balance to save the planet.

In a sinister plot to destroy the Autobots, Dark Nova had Optimus Prime's sparkless body revived as the evil False Convoy. False Convoy battled the Autobots but was defeated. Using the power of the the Zodiac, Optimus Prime was brought back online and upgraded into Star Convoy. He was then reunited with Hot Rod, who became his Micromaster partner.

With the likes of Sky Garry, Grandus and Sixliner, Star Convoy did battle with the Decepticons and Dark Nova's horde of Great Galaman drone warriors. Getting nowhere fast, Dark Nova then resurrected Galvatron (last seen buried in ice) as Super Megatron to counter Star Convoy. This didn't work all that well, and after defeating Super Megatron, his foe was resurrected again by Dark Nova as Ultra Megatron. After disposing of him yet again, Dark Nova merged with Ultra Megatron into Star Giant.

Star Giant proved to be virtually indestructible from the outside until Star Convoy got the bright idea of giving the villain the worst case of indigestion he's ever had. Holding Star Giant's massive mouth open, he ordered Sky Garry and Grandus to move in. After all 3 were swallowed, they began taking Star Giant down from the inside while simultaneously fighting off his various defensive systems. As soon as the trio escaped from Star Giant's interior, the monster exploded, leaving only his head slightly intact. As it happens, Megatron was housed inside Star Giant's noggin and survived the attack.
Generation 2 manga (Japan-only)
After the end of Battlestars, Optimus Prime down-graded back to his original body. Megatron eventually recovered from the Star Giant incident and supposedly turned over a new leaf. Megatron joined with Prime to form the Cybertron Alliance, and things were good for a little while, as Megatron's attempts at peace were genuinely sincere. The alliance ushered in what would be called the Second Generation of the Transformers. However, after human soldiers killed one of his dearest comrades, Megatron adopted a new body and started the war anew.

To counter Megatron, Optimus Prime upgraded his body into a new Missle Trailer mode. Rallying a new wave of Autobot warriors, Optimus dilligently repelled Megatron and the Decepticons. Megatron eventually wore Optimus down in battle, though, blowing him away with a barrage of devastating attacks. Megatron finally succeeded in delivering a fatal blow to Optimus, shooting him at point blank with his cannon. Prime would have been done for, except that the sparks of the previous Autobot Supreme Commanders within the Matrix of Leadership activated the Reconfiguration Matrix to forge him a new body. Optimus Prime became Battle Convoy and easily trumped Megatron's power. After a lengthy and costly war, Battle Convoy managed to drive the Decepticon forces to retreat into deep space. Prime was last seen wounded, being aided off the battlefield by his fellow Autobots.
E-Hobby
Presumingly using his Reconfiguration Matrix to revert to his original body, Optimus Prime came into possession of two powerful Solar-powered missile launchers created by the Decepticons. The energy consumption of these missiles is so large that it was necessary for Prime to be given a Sunlight-absorbing Black body coating in order for them to operate at full power. It was in this form that Prime rescued Laser Rod Ultra Magnus from Galvatron II.

In the year 199X, the Decepticons had learned of a powerful new energy source known as forestonite which just happened to be located (surprise surprise) on Earth. Megatron sent his trio of Cyberjets to Earth first to draw out the enemy Autobots. The Cyberjets made quick work of Electro but were soon halted by the appearance of Optimus Prime.

Megatron then entered the fray and fired his Black Hole Burn attack from his fusion cannon, narrowly missing Optimus Prime but vaporizing Hooligan in the process. Prime fought fiercely but Megatron began to take the upper-hand in battle.

However, Prime was encouraged to keep fighting by the cheers of a human boy named Junpei. Megatron, surprised at Prime's resiliance, attempted to finish his foe off with his Tornado Axe attack. Prime countered with his Double Wheel-Torque Mega-Ton, which trumped Megatron's attack and injured the Decepticon badly. Megatron teleported back to his ship and left Earth's atmosphere, vowing to return.

Optimus Prime adressed Junpei, asking if the boy was injured. Junpei revealed he was alright but presented concern about the Decepticons returning to Earth. Optimus Prime swore that the Autobots would remain on Earth until the threat of the Decepticons was finished and asked for Junpei's help in making that future a reality.
The Beast Wars raged on prehistoric Earth, eventually leading to the discovery of the buried Ark. Megatron, following his namesakes instructions in a desperate gambit, decided to attempt to change history by killing Prime, who was still lying in the Ark in stasis lock. Megatron hoped that this would result in the Decepticons winning the Great War and eventually Predacon control of Cybertron. Megatron unleashed a full-power weapon blast at Optimus Prime's face, near-fatally injuring him. The Agenda, Part 3 However, Optimus Primal proceeded to take Prime's spark into his body to protect it from surgical trauma while his injuries were repaired. The subsequent power increase caused by Prime's spark's connection to the Matrix mutated Primal into a large, Transmetal "Optimal Optimus" form. Then, with the repairs complete, Prime's spark was restored, and he briefly activated before sinking back into normal stasis. Optimal Situation

Sometime after the Autobots and Decepticons awoke in the 1980s, the original Megatron gained access to one of Earth's Voyager spacecraft and inscribed a message on the disk on board. In the event that he lost the War, Megatron left instructions for the descendants of the Decepticons to use transwarp technology to travel to Prehistoric Earth, locate the Ark, and change history by killing Optimus Prime. The Agenda, Part 2
After taking note of a battle in which the Autobot leader Sentinel Prime had been defeated by Megatron, he was summoned to the council of elders and informed that the Matrix had chosen him to be the next leader of the Autobots. He received the Matrix of Leadership shortly thereafter, gaining a powerful new body in the process, and almost arranged for the Autobot evacuation of Cybertron, intending to leave the Decepticons to their own devices, until a battle with Megatron beneath the planet's surface, accompanied by visions from the Matrix, stirred him on to fight for the safety of his homeworld. Some time into his role as leader, Prime disappeared in a space bridge explosion along with Megatron, but returned some time later, having spent a period of time on Quintessa.

Following the awakening of the Transformers on Earth, the Autobots protected the planet from the Decepticons. Over the next fifteen years, the Autobots befriended the humans, particularly the Witwicky family. The Autobots finally allied with humankind and eventually defeated the Decepticons at the turn of the century. They planned to return to Cybertron aboard the newly constructed Ark_II, along with seven humans, including Witwicky patriatch Sparkplug. Before the ship departed, Prime gave a piece of the Matrix to Spike Witwicky, Sparkplug's son and Bumblebee's closest human friend. But the ship was destroyed as part of a military conspiracy to take control of the Transformers. However, a terrorist organization run by the enigmatic Lazarus was able to seize control of several of the Transformers that fell back to Earth, while the U.S. military located Prime's body. Spike was forced by the product chief, General Robert Hallo, to use the piece of the Matrix to reactivate Prime. Functional again, Prime used the Matrix to reactivate more of his fallen comrades, and then faced off against Megatron in San Francisco.

Following this, Prime began to experience subconscious urgings, leading both the Autobots and the Decepticons to the Arctic Circle, where Shockwave arrived to greet them - and arrest them as war criminals. Shockwave had succeeded in ending the war on Cybertron, but Prime soon fell in with a rebel Autobot group that had discovered Shockwave had a greater agenda. Rallying Autobots across Cybertron to the cause, Prime faced Shockwave in battle but was defeated and had the Matrix ripped from him and used to activate Vector Sigma. Before Shockwave could make full use of the mega-computer's data, however, Ultra Magnus arrived and bested him. The injuries Prime took in this conflicted necessitated a prolonged restoration period in stasis...

...which turned out to be the remainder of Dreamwave's existence. Bummer.

Before the war, a robot that's a hybrid of the "Orion Pax" and "Optronix" designs appears listening to Sentinel Prime's speech at the funeral of Bumper and Fastback. He is standing with Elita One, Alpha Trion, and a white version of himself (presumably Ultra Magnus, possibly even Dion). Whether this is truly the IDW continuity's version of pre-Prime Optimus remains unrevealed.

Optimus Prime commands the Autobot armed forces spread across the galaxy from the Autobot Orbital Command Hub. He was directly involved in the cataclysm (just under 450 years ago) that reduced Cybertron to a dead husk, fighting alongside Megatron in an attempt to stop Thunderwing's rampage. Their efforts were futile, and they only survived due to Cybertron swallowing Thunderwing at Thunderhead Pass. Megatron was unconvinced that Thunderwing was dead, and advocated that Cybertron be destroyed to better insure that the mad Decepticon is forever destroyed. Prime refused, and threatened to stop any effort that Megatron attempted. Megatron agreed to spare the planet, but warned Prime that anything which happened afterwards was on his head.

In the present, Prime recieved a pulsewave from Ironhide, who was stationed under Prowl on Earth, saying that the Decepticon infiltration cell under Starscream had broken their infiltration methods and enacted siege mode prematurely. Soon afterward, the Autobot science vessel Calabi-Yau sends a distress signal from above Thunderhead Pass, he ordered the Wreckers to withdraw from Varas Centralus and meet him on Cybertron. Stormbringer, part 2 Thunderwing had been restored by Bludgeon and his followers, and though the Wreckers made short work of them, the real fight would be met with Thunderwing. After the Wreckers, Predacons and Centurion drones were unable to destroy the monster, Prime took to the field, firing massive amounts of energy at Thunderwing, forcing it to exhaust its last reserves of Ultra Energon and, ultimately, its life. Stormbringer, part 4

Jetfire discovered information in Bludgeon's files about the mysterious new form of Energon found on Earth. Linking it to the pulsewave transmission from Ironhide, Prime diverted his spacecraft to Earth and called Nightbeat in to assist him. Spotlight: Nightbeat. Shortly after arrival &mdash; having undergone alteration so that he can disguise himself as an Earth truck &mdash; he slowly began to realize how unusual the situation Prowl's unit had found itself in was. Infiltration (issue 6) Not only had the Decepticons broken their own infiltration protocols over what Starscream had dubbed Ore-13, but after attempting to recover what appeared to be Sunstreaker's remains, it was also evident that some of the planet's native sentients &mdash; humans &mdash; posed a threat possibly equal to that of their old enemies. Escalation (issue 2)

Optimus Prime, now fully filled in on Earth's happenings, decided that they needed reinforcements. He called Nightbeat, Hot Rod, and Hardhead to come when they could. When Prowl pointed out that Megatron, in his new gun-based Earth mode, was in the breakaway Soviet state of Brasnya stirring up trouble, Prime ordered them into action.

Blitzwing almost got the drop on Prime, but Roller was right behind him, and executed him with one single shot. Megatron returned to his full-size robot mode and disagreed with the quality of Prime's tea and crumpets. At last, the two rivals were going to go at it.

The fight, at first, went well, with Prime blowing Megatron's fusion blaster clean off. Megatron, however, tireless thanks to Ore-13, prevailed, almost beating Prime into stasis lock. Escalation (issue 5)

However, Prime transfered his consciousness into his trailer, leading Megatron to believe him dead. Realising that "Ore-13" was the same as Ultra Energon, Prime returned to his body in time to save his forces from the relentless Megatron, dealing enough damage to the Decepticon leader to drain his power reserves, just as he did against Thunderwing. The victory was narrow however, leaving Optimus with the daunting task of fending off an increasing enemy force without his last ace in the hole. Escalation (issue 6)

This near-death experience had left Prime somewhat unsettled. While his conciousness was in infraspace downloading to his trailer, he sensed a presence of dread - the visage of his long-missing predecessor Nova Prime. Looking for answers, Optimus Prime left Earth temporarily to seek an audience with Omega Supreme for answers. Once there, he found out about Nova's beliefs of how Transformers were better than everyone else and should show it, and faced down the rampaging Monstructor, a legacy of Nova's tenure locked away by Omega Supreme. Then he went on to give his "you shouldn't have done that" speech to Omega, hand Monstructor's limbs over to Jetfire's team, and went on to do what comic G1 Primes do best and have angst-ridden introspection about himself and the tarnished legacy of the Prime lineage. Spotlight: Optimus Prime

spoiler
After returning to Earth, Nightbeat discovered that a human group was aware of the base's location, and recommended to Prime that they move the Ark-19. As preparations were underway, Prime recieved a message from Hound, saying that Thunderwing had been stolen. Sideswipe, eager to search for Sunstreaker, suggested that they be reassigned to Earth, and Prime agreed. However, the thrashing Prime gave Megatron had so embarrassed him that he ordered in Sixshot. While moving the Ark-19, Sixshot managed to shoot down the vessel, which crashed in Tennesse. Devastation, part 1
Optimus is depicted as turning into the front half of a fanciful red-and-blue locomotive. The rear half of the locomotive turns into a battle station. Since this altmode has no place in the story, these sketches constitute a micro-continuity in which Optimus Prime and Megatron are active in the late 19th century.
Trivia
*According to Bob Budiansky, longtime comics writer Denny O'Neil named Optimus Prime prior to Budiansky being brought on to the Transformers project.

*Aside from occasionally having Alpha Trion as a father figure, Optimus Prime may have a mother! In an advertisement for Pepsi Convoy that shows him in a refrigerator (along with Destron Pizza), a note attached to a nearby piece of tupperware reads:

:Dear Convoy
:Warm it before you eat
:Mom

:Although the ad itself is for Pepsi Convoy, he is a separate character, and it can be assumed that the note was left for Convoy/Optimus Prime himself.

* The first wave of Dreamwave posters in 2001 identified Optimus Prime as Captimus Primus, which is tantalizingly close to making some sort of sense.
The rookie of Team Prime, Ironhide has a major case of hero-worship towards both Optimus Prime and Hot Shot. He joins the team in the very first episode, in the hopes of earning a Combination Spark.

Optimus Prime paired Ironhide with Kicker, in the hopes that the two would help to keep one another under control. Neither was very happy with the partnership at first, but eventually they became good friends.

Ironhide did manage to earn a Combination Spark after several battles, making him able to powerlink with Jetfire and later, Cliffjumper. Along with several other characters, Ironhide was reformatted into a new paint job to fight Unicron.

Ironhide went through several character growths due to the changes taking place in Scorponok, whom he looked up to initially. He would eventually lead a rookie team to their deaths against Scorponok, and nearly kill Scorponok in retaliation. In the end, he and Scorponok fought each other into a stasis. His life was saved when Scorponok carried his damaged body to Optimus Prime on Jungle Planet, in order to merge Ironhide's spark with Optimus Prime. He was restored to life afterwards and was last seen with Kicker on Ocean Planet.
Ironhide transforms into a dorky blue sports utility vehicle with a rather oversized red speaker/gun turret/high beam lights/thingamajig setup mounted on top. In robot mode he is able to combine with most Autobot Deluxe and Mega sizeclass toys.

The japanese release, named Roadbuster, had some minor deco and colour differences, most signifcantly being the tan plastic parts being replace by grey, even though they remained tan in the Energon cartoon. The major functional difference between the two toys is that the japanese version does not have electronics, while the US release does.

Ironhide became a major shelfwarmer during the Energon toyline's run, with some areas still having unsold Ironhides into 2006.

In 1984, Spike was a 14-year-old adolescent working with his father Sparkplug on an oil rig when the Decepticons attacked. After the Autobots rescued them, they volunteered to become their native guides to planet Earth.

Spike had many adventures with the Autobots, taking part in just about everything they did on Earth for at least the next few years. He became especially close friends with the little Autobot Bumblebee. At one point, however, Spike was injured in a Decepticon attack, and his mind was transferred to the unstable Autobot X. The process began to play havoc with Spike's mind, allowing Megatron to manipulate him in into attacking Optimus Prime and the Autobots. Only after nearly killing his father did Spike realize that he was being duped. His mind was subsequently transferred back into his body.

In the course of his adventures with the Autobots, he met Carly, an impetuous prodigy and MIT graduate. Despite being (much) smarter, older (she could drive), and hotter than him, Carly displayed a noticeable affection for the somewhat-dim Spike. They mated and produced offspring.

As an adult in the distant year 2005, Spike was stationed with Bumblebee on one of the Autobot's secret moonbases. He had a bit of a potty-mouth about being eaten by the monster-planet Unicron, but that would make anyone pissed. He was saved from the belly of Unicron by his afforementioned offspring. Later, when the Autobots had regained control of the planet, he became Earth's ambassador...or something.

Marooned on the distant planet Nebulos he became a Headmaster partner to Cerebros and single handedly rebuilt an ancient city into a giant transformer.

He polished up good.
Generation 1
(Note: Events from the UK-only comic stories are in italics.)

Spike Witwicky was away at college for the first few years of the Autobot/Decepticon war on Earth until he returned home to find his younger brother Buster kidnapped by the Decepticons. Spike soon became the binary-bond partner to the Headmaster Fortress Maximus, after Fortress Maximus' first partner, Galen, was killed in a battle with the Deception Scorponok.

Thereafter he struggled with balancing his responsibillities to his family with those to the Autobots. Once Buster was rescued, and with Optimus Prime returned to life to take his place as Autobot leader, Spike went into retirement, mothballing poor Max. This retirement wouldn't last however as it was interupted, first by a pair of Deceptioon Pretenders, then by the crash of the Ark and a raving Galvatron. Through the course of these conflicts Spike learned that the binary bonding he had undergone with Maximus was far deeper and more permanent than he'd believed. Fortress Maximus was always there with him in his head, always a part of him. After his battle with Galvatron he seemed to have made peace with his connection to Fortress Maximus and his role as (perhaps) the last Autobot protector of Earth.

In an alternate timeline in the year 2009, Decepticons had built a machine to destroy Earth while a space-time anomaly was eating entire planets. After Rodimus Prime orchestrated a plan to travel twenty years back in time to the source of the anomaly, Spike Witwicky and his son Daniel accused Rodimus of shirking his responsibilities towards Earth and guilted Rodimus into allotting more troops to help destroy the Decepticons' machine.

In another alternate timeline in the year 2009, Spike Witwicky was part of a very small Autobot/human resistance movement in a world where Galvatron II's Decepticons controlled North America. The handful of Autobots who remained alive despaired and were on the cusp of giving up, but Spike and Lisa (who shared growing feelings for each other) guilted them into one last suicidal attack on Decepticon headquarters in New York before the rest of the world could unleash a nuclear holocaust onto America at midnight. Though there were several casualties, Spike managed to hoist an American flag on the Decepticon stronghold on live television, a symbolic measure which prompted the end of the planned nuclear strike. Before Galvatron II could respond, the Decepticon despot was abducted by Hook, Line, and Sinker into another timeline.

Generation 2
Spike followed up on the now Megatron-controlled Ark, which he'd apparently stuffed Fortress Maximus aboard and then abandoned after his battle with Galvatron (great job protecting Earth there, "Last Autobot").

He reunited with Max and together they . . . um sort of stopped Megatron (well, delayed him a little . . . maybe) by throwing themselves into the ship's antimatter core.

He blowed up real good.
Dreamwave comics continuity
It's to be assumed that Spike and his father, Sparkplug, met the Autobots early on in their time on Earth (in a similar fashion as Spike and Sparkplug did in the cartoon, or Buster and Sparkplug did in the Marvel Comics). Spike definitely had a younger brother named Buster (like in the Marvel comics), yet it was Spike who formed a close friendship with Bumblebee (like in the cartoon, rather than missing out on the first few years of the Witwicky family's interaction with the Transformers while engaging in drinking orgies at college, like he did in the Marvel comics). The exact details of the Witwicky's early years as the Autobots' human associates are therefore not known.

Somewhere in the time after 1984, Spike married Carly, who then gave birth to Spike's son, Daniel. After the explosion of the Ark II in 1999, which caused the death of Spike's father Sparkplug, Spike tried to leave his involvement with the Transformers behind and settled down with his wife and son in Cleveland, Ohio, trying to live a new life as a normal family. The newfound peace wouldn't last for long, though, as Spike was soon recruited by a shady military official named General Hallo seeking his help in reviving Optimus Prime, whose body his men had recently found in the Arctic. Spike, who had been entrusted by Prime with a fragment of the Matrix, used that fragment to bring Prime back to life. Prime Directive, Part 1 Prime Directive, Part 2

Prime subsequently used the Matrix to revive and assemble a group of his Autobots, which he would then lead against Megatron's Decepticons. Meanwhile, Spike was imprisoned by General Hallo, who had double motives behind reviving the Autobots and even tried to kill them by bombing them. With the help of Larry, the World's Most Resourceful Janitor, Spike was able to escape his cell and uncover Hallo's sinister schemes, but not in time to stop him from launching a nuclear strike against the Autobots which was ultimately averted when Superion sacrificed his life in order to make it detonate before it could reach its target. Prime Directive, Part 5 Prime Directive, Part 6

Following these events, Spike once again returned to his family and tried to leave his past with the Transformers behind. A few months later, though, his old friend Bumblebee, who had just decided to quit the Autobot army following a fierce battle against Sunstorm, showed up by his house. Spike, frustrated that the Autobots refused to leave him alone, hurled a few nasty insults against his old buddy before changing his mind and joining him on a men's night out in the city, where they stopped a mugging. The follow-up scene of Carly shouting at Spike singing drinking songs with Bumblebee was never published due to the untimely faltering of Dreamwave. It also means we will never if Spike and Bumblebee formed a crime fighting duo

Devil's Due G.I. Joe vs the Transformers continuity
In response to the forming of the terrorist organization Cobra and its commandeered Transformers, the United States government assembled a strike team dubbed G.I. Joe. Spike Witwicky (codename Spike) was listed on the roster, but was never seen. G.I. Joe vs the Transformers, Part 2

(Oddly, Spike Witwicky's was the only name of a military specialist on the roster which was not ordered last name, first name.)
Generation 1
* Fortress Maximus with Spike (Headmaster, 1987)
:Spike was a Headmaster figure who came with Fortress Maximus. Gray and blue, he transformed into Cerebros' head, who then in turn became Fortress Maximus' head. Although the tech specs referred to 'the Nebulan leader, Spike', most assume it was supposed to represent the character from TV, making this the first Transformers toy of an Earth human.

:Spike and Bumblebee were sold together as a single PVC in Act 3 of Takara's Super Collection Figure series. They were blindpacked, with painted and clear variations sold in equal quantities. In Hasbro's markets, they were sold together on a blister card as the "Autobot Espionage Team". (At this point, Hasbro did not have the trademark rights to Bumblebee's name.) In both Japan and the West, the two came packaged with HOC Fortress Maximus' right leg.

Trivia
*Spike and Buster were both derived from the same "young male human friend" character in early backstory material. For more on the name variation see Butch Witwicky.
