Life gradually evolved throughout the cosmos, eventually and miraculously bringing forth sentient beings. In any case, Primus could only win by tricking Unicron into trapping his spirit in a barren asteroid—Primus was trapped in a second. Unicron turned his into a new body, while Primus turned his into the planet Cybertron and birthed the Transformers to battle Unicron in his place. The Transformers were led by [[Prima]], the first bearer of the Primus-born [[Matrix of Leadership|Creation Matrix]].

At some point, [[Demon]]s inhabited Cybertron, but they were eventually imprisoned by Primus in the planet's depths.

This eventually takes it far too close to an asteroid belt, which will destroy it utterly; Optimus leads a team of the Autobots' finest in the ''[[Ark (G1)|Ark]]'' to clear the path of rocks. ==Post-Arklaunch==
The Autobots are left distraught and leaderless by the loss of the '' Ark '', and send [[Navigator]] to find it (''he'' gets lost). {{storylink|Man of Iron (issue)|Man of Iron}} ''The Decepticons quickly gain a new leader in the brutal [[Trannis]], and the war begins going their way once again. Meanwhile, a bunch of Decepticons unlock the key to [[Reproduction|biomorphic reproduction]], a pre-Matrix way of reproducing. {{storylink|The Power and the Glory}} This new second generation of Decepticons, including [[Jhiaxus (G2)|Jhiaxus]], happily throw themselves into the war but eventually become bored with it; they leave Cybertron behind to colonise space (exterminating any organic life on said colony worlds in the process) under the aegis of the [[Cybertronian (faction)|Cybertronian Empire]]. The Decepticons kidnap the mechanic [[Sparkplug Witwicky]], and force him to adapt their systems to earthen fuel. {{storylink|Prisoner of War!}}

When the Decepticons have the upper hand, they fall due to Witwicky making the fuel poisonous for them. On Cybertron, both an Autobot resistance cell and Decepticon leader [[Straxus (G1)|Straxus]] pick up a signal from Earth, becoming aware of the war there. Straxus builds the space bridge to link the two planets, using information taken from scientist [[Spanner (G1)|Spanner]], but the Autobots prevent the Decepticons crossing in force and destroy Straxus's body, at the cost of being stuck on Earth. {{storylink|The Smelting Pool!}} {{ storylink|The Bridge to Nowhere!}} They are rapidly captured by [[Rapid Anti-robot Assault Team|RAAT]], and Circuit Breaker. {{storylink|Heavy Traffic!}}

The Civil War raged on before ending with Megatron victorious. While Shockwave would be absorbed into Megatron's army, Scorponok was left wounded, alone and hunted; he only survived by forcing the Autobots to intervene against his [[Air Strike Patrol|pursuers]]. {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}}

====1992====

Snarl has contracted the wasting disease [[Corrodia Gravis]] at some point. The Dinobots head for the Savage Land , where (due to no other option) they have to transfer Snarl's mind into a real Stegosaurus. {{storylink|Destiny of the Dinobots!}}

====2003====
Plans are drawn up for an [[ Autobot City ]] on Earth, funded with help from Earth's governments. Ultra Magnus is commanding the Ark at this point. {{storylink|Ark Duty}}

Autobot City is completed. Shockwave attacks the opening ceremony, intending to shatter Autobot-human relations and use this victory to usurp control from Megatron. It fails badly. {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}}

====2006====
By this point, the Decepticons rule Cybertron; the Autobots reside in moon bases and Autobot City . Time travel technology is possessed by both factions. Earth has weather control systems.

Megatron starts the [[Battle of Autobot City]]. As a result, Optimus Prime is killed and Ultra Magnus becomes the new [[Supreme Commander|Autobot Commander]]; the monstrous Unicron turns up, reformatting a dying Megatron into [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]. {{storylink|The Transformers: The Movie}}

Deciding he doesn't want to work for Unicron, Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourge time-travel back to 1986 inadvertently creating a new parallel timeline. Unicron mentally steers Hot Rod, Kup and Blurr to bring him back, and tortures Galvatron back into obedience when they have. {{storylink|Target: 2006}}

Unicron attacks Cybertron. Hot Rod opens the Matrix and becomes Rodimus Prime, who hurls Galvatron into space, destroys Unicron, and leads the Autobots in reclaiming Cybertron. {{storylink|The Transformers: The Movie}} Shockwave takes command of the shattered Decepticons, while Galvatron is missing (he crosstime-jumped to 1986 at the moment of defeat). The Autobots, under the command of [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus Prime]] have made their base on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Unicron's severed head goes on to crash on [[Junkion (planet)|Junk]], where he mind-controls the [[Junkion (species)|Junkions]] into building him a new body... {{storylink|The Legacy of Unicron!}}

With the Autobot army stretched, Shockwave was able to re-organise the Decepticon army and retake half of Cybertron. Stalemate ensured; Rodimus, out of desperation, puts a dead-or-alive bounty on Galvatron's head, something that backfires when it causes [[Death's Head (G1)|Death's Head]] to crosstime-jump to 1987 looking for the bounty. {{storylink|Wanted: Galvatron — Dead or Alive!}} Rodimus, Kup, Blurr and (accidentally) Wreck-Gar went after him {{storylink|Burning Sky!}} and brought him back, but failed to secure Galvatron.

Shockwave, wanting to cement his power, set it up so Death's Head would kill Rodimus, Cyclonus and Scourge. All three lived, but the latter two would be fleeing Death's Head for the rest of the year. {{storylink|Headhunt}}

====2008====

Death's Head catches up with Cyclonus and Scourge on Junk in the New Year, but all three end up mentally enslaved by Unicron. He has them kill Shockwave and send the ''entire'' Decepticon army at the Autobots, a pointless battle that'll decimate both sides in advance of his arrival. Rodimus, however, has been alerted of Unicron's presence, and leads a strike-team to stop him. Thanks to Rodimus, Wreck-Gar, and Death's Head, Unicron's head is destroyed and his mind trapped in the Matrix, while Scourge and Cyclonus end up sent back in time. Soundwave takes command of the Decepticons and ends the battle. {{storylink|The Legacy of Unicron!}}

A [[Time Wars|time rift]] appears in 2008, causing the destruction of the [[Quintesson]] homeworld. They investigate many mechanical planets for emergency colonisation, eventually settling on Cybertron; Wreck-Gar comes into possession of these plans. The Quintessons launch a devastating attack on Autobot City on Earth, drawing out Rodimus so they can steal the Matrix; simultaneously, they trick the Decepticons on Cybertron into heading into an ambush. The Earth forces are slaughtered by [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] and the Cybertron force undone by Soundwave calling in the Autobots to help. Wreck-Gar broadcasts the Quintessons plans to ''every'' planet on their list, forewarning them and ensuring the surviving Quintessons will be hunted fugitives. {{storylink|Space Pirates!}}

The rift gets worse, now threatening Earth and Cybertron. {{storylink|Time Wars}}

====2009====

On New Year's Day, the [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]] attack Earth with the intention of draining its energy before it was destroyed; the Autobots wrecked that plan. The Autobots also became aware that the source of the time rift was 1989, and a small team was sent back to that year to end the crisis. {{storylink|Time Wars}}

The confused Autobots suffer a humiliating defeat and turn to Megatron and Soundwave for leadership. Despite this, they lose again and Ultra Magnus has to step in to assist. [[Bombshell (G1)|Bombshell]] lands a cerebro-shell in Prime's wound, and channels Matrix energy from him to make the [[Stunticon (G1)|Stunticon]] Special Team. Skids and Finkleberg are sent to investigate the lost "[[Cybertron Seven]]", getting caught in an Aerialbot-Stunticon-RAAT battle. Carnivac's comrade Catilla is killed by the Mayhem Attack Squad. {{storylink|A Savage Place!}} [[Grimlock (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Grimlock]] does something to bring the Dinobots back from the dead, the Constructicons lose the power to combine.

Following the Underbase debacle, Megatron makes his big play involving the Classic Pretenders.

An incident at the centre of Cybertron causes the [[Primal Scream]] that alerts Unicron to Cybertron's whereabouts.

===1990===

Megatron ends up on Earth, joining a splinter group of Decepticons; Shockwave makes his move as well, also on Earth. Scorponok at some point leaves the planet.
The Ark is deserted for reasons unknown; Galvatron II breaks in to find a number of Underbase-killed Autobots that he can rejuvenate and turn evil. Prowl, Ironhide, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, and Silverbolt are awakened, and go on to take him down. {{storylink|...Perchance to Dream}} Sometime after this, the other Aerialbots are also brought back online.

Shockwave attempts but fails to force Grimlock to reveal how he brought the Dinobots back. A disagreement between Optimus and Grimlock {{storylink|Two Steps Back!}} cause Grimlock to threaten to leave the Autobots, believing Optimus (concerned with Unicron) is not doing enough for Earth. It's decided to put Grimlock in charge of a separate [[Earthforce]] (numbering the revived Autobots, the Dinobots, and the Classic Pretenders) to handle the Decepticons here. {{storylink|Break-Away!}} Meanwhile, Megatron attempts to deploy a satellite that will alter Earth's temperature, but Prowl and Wheeljack intervene{{storylink|Starting Over!}}, calling for back-up from the other Autobots. {{storylink|Break-Away!}} After an initial pep talk to his new troops, Grimlock orders them into battle. {{storylink|Once upon a Time...}}

Prowl is left MIA after personally trying to bring the satellite down. {{storylink|Life in the Slow Lane}} Bumblebee and Ironhide, while looking for him, destroy the Decepticon's new [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]]. {{storylink|Desert Island Risks!}} The Autobots ''and'' Megatron and Shockwave's two Decepticon groups eventually find the satellite, and a battle over it starts a [[Decepticon Civil War]]; Prowl, alive, has in fact disarmed the satellite ages ago though. {{storylink|Life in the Slow Lane}} Prowl goes on to become Grimlock's second-in-command.

At some point, Wheeljack sets up a [[Body Shop]] based around an [[Automated Construction Unit]]: a top-of-the-line facility for repairing Autobots. {{storylink|Makin' Tracks!}}

Various minor incidents occur: The Dinobots inflict [[April Fools' Day]] on Grimlock, while Shockwave's Decepticons fail to find the Autobot base. {{storylink|Snow Fun!}} Prowl prevents Megatron from bolstering his forces by using time travel to alter the events of the Underbase battle. {{storylink|Flashback!}} The Aerialbots are brought back online somehow, and both Wheeljack and Skydive act really dumb. {{storylink|Mystery!}} The warring Decepticon groups call an [[Enclave]] to stop the struggle, but the Autobots sabotage it by faking that Shockwave tried to kill Megatron. {{storylink|The Bad Guy's Ball!}} The Decepticon Mindwipe, gone rogue from Scorponok's crew, is prevented from conquering the Earth by two Earthforce members. {{storylink|The Living Nightlights!}}

Carnivac gets brutal revenge on the Mayhem Attack Squad for killing Catilla, taking down three of them. The [[Survivors]], trying to rescue Carnivac, unify with Earthforce in return for aid; as a result, [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]], [[Octopunch (G1)|Octopunch]], and [[Stranglehold]] are taken prisoner. {{storylink|Cry Wolf!}} {{storylink|Wolf in the Fold!}} {{storylink|Where Wolf?}}

Meanwhile, Soundwave is playing both sides of the civil war against each other, and frames Wildrider for it so as to avoid detection. {{storylink|Secrets}} Starscream finds out and uses that to get Soundwave to help him in a master plan: get both Shockwave and Megatron to fight each other and sic Earthforce on them, then seize command of the two Decepticon factions themselves, and unite them. (Both, of course, plan to backstab the other and seize sole command) {{storylink|Bugged!}} {{storylink|Internal Affairs!}} The Autobots complete their new base, but are forced to deactivate its security system {{storylink|The House that Wheeljack Built!}}, at which point the full Decepticon army attacks. Starscream carries out the second objective of seizing an oil tanker while the Autobots are occupied, but Prowl had the Survivors out on patrol and Starscream is driven off. Soundwave uses the defeat to rally support for him being sole commander. {{storylink|Divide and Conquer!}}

Optimus Prime inspects Earthforce, unfortunately at the same time Slag has gone insane; the Dinobots barely cover it up. {{storylink|The 4,000,000 Year Itch!}} During Prime's stay, he oversees the rebuilding of Tracks, not knowing Grimlock is desperately trying to keep him from being rebuilt; of course, Grimlock fails and Tracks is placed under his command. {{storylink|Makin' Tracks!}} The remaining Mayhems escape from their cells. {{storylink|Shut Up!}} Jazz takes action to stop Octane endangering humans for fun. {{storylink|Manoeuvres!}}

Megatron and Shockwave try to regain control of their armies by putting hits out on Starscream and Shockwave. Their attempt is defeated by Earthforce, who are forced to keep Starscream alive after Snarl contracts [[Corrodia Gravis]] and only the Seeker is a suitable transplant donor. Starscream agrees to donate, but only if Earthforce keep Megatron and Shockwave off his back. {{storylink|Assassins}} {{storylink|External Forces!}} {{storylink|The Lesser Evil!}}

Soon after that, the Decepticons take control of Superion and send him on a rampage; he's only stopped thanks to human journalist [[Irwin Spoon (G1)|Irwin Spoon]]. {{storylink|Inside Story!}} In exchange, the Autobots let Irwin do a big report on the Earthforce. In order to prevent the Autobots being seen as human allies, the Decepticons abduct Iriwn {{storylink|Front Line! (issue)|Front Line!}}; the Autobots rescue him, but don't realise Irwin has had a cerebro-shell planted in his mind and will now only write smears about them. {{storylink|End of the Road! With the Matrix irrecoverable and alliance impossible, Optimus sends six of the Earthforce - Prowl, Jazz, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, Inferno, and Siverbolt - to [[Yuss]] to locate the former Underbase site, hoping to use it as a weapon as a last-ditch defence against Unicron. There, they came into conflict with the mad Decepticon known as [[Megadeath (G1)|Megadeath]], who tortured and humiliated all bar Silverbolt in times past. A [[Time Wars|time rift]] appears in 2008, causing the destruction of the [[Quintesson]] homeworld. The Quintessons launch a devastating attack on Autobot City on Earth, drawing out Rodimus so they can steal the Matrix; simultaneously, they trick the Decepticons on Cybertron into heading into an ambush. The Ark is deserted for reasons unknown; Galvatron II breaks in to find a number of Underbase-killed Autobots that he can rejuvenate and turn evil. Prowl, Ironhide, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, and Silverbolt are awakened, and go on to take him down. {{storylink|...Perchance to Dream}} Sometime after this, the other Aerialbots are also brought back online.

Shockwave attempts but fails to force Grimlock to reveal how he brought the Dinobots back. A disagreement between Optimus and Grimlock {{storylink|Two Steps Back!}} cause Grimlock to threaten to leave the Autobots, believing Optimus (concerned with Unicron) is not doing enough for Earth. Meanwhile, Soundwave is playing both sides of the civil war against each other, and frames Wildrider for it so as to avoid detection. {{storylink|Secrets}} Starscream finds out and uses that to get Soundwave to help him in a master plan: get both Shockwave and Megatron to fight each other and sic Earthforce on them, then seize command of the two Decepticon factions themselves, and unite them. Starscream carries out the second objective of seizing an oil tanker while the Autobots are occupied, but Prowl had the Survivors out on patrol and Starscream is driven off. Soundwave uses the defeat to rally support for him being sole commander. {{storylink|Divide and Conquer!}}

Optimus inspects Earthforce, unfortunately at the same time Slag has gone insane; the Dinobots barely cover it up. {{storylink|The 4,000,000 Year Itch!}} During Prime's stay, he oversees the rebuilding of Tracks, not knowing Grimlock is desperately trying to keep him from being rebuilt; of course, Grimlock fails and Tracks is placed under his command. {{storylink|Makin' Tracks!}} The remaining Mayhems escape from their cells. {{storylink|Shut Up!}} Jazz takes action to stop Octane endangering humans for fun. {{storylink|Manoeuvres!}}

Megatron and Shockwave try to regain control of their armies by putting hits out on Starscream and Shockwave. Their attempt is defeated by Earthforce, who are forced to keep Starscream alive after Snarl contracts [[Corrodia Gravis]] and only the Seeker is a suitable transplant donor. Starscream agrees to donate, but only if Earthforce keep Megatron and Shockwave off his back. {{storylink|Assassins}} {{storylink|External Forces!}} {{storylink|The Lesser Evil!}}

Soon after that, the Decepticons take control of Superion and send him on a rampage; he's only stopped thanks to human journalist [[Irwin Spoon (G1)|Irwin Spoon]]. {{storylink|Inside Story!}} In exchange, the Autobots let Irwin do a big report on the Earthforce. In order to prevent the Autobots being seen as human allies, the Decepticons abduct Iriwn {{storylink|Front Line! (issue)|Front Line!}}; the Autobots rescue him, but don't realise Irwin has had a cerebro-shell planted in his mind and will now only write smears about them. {{storylink|End of the Road! With the Matrix irrecoverable and alliance impossible, Optimus sends six of the Earthforce - Prowl, Jazz, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, Inferno, and Siverbolt - to [[Yuss]] to locate the former Underbase site, hoping to use it as a weapon as a last-ditch defence against Unicron. There, they came into conflict with the mad Decepticon known as [[Megadeath (G1)|Megadeath]], who tortured and humiliated all bar Silverbolt in times past. Death's Head catches up with Cyclonus and Scourge on Junk in the New Year, but all three end up mentally enslaved by Unicron. He has them kill Shockwave and send the ''entire'' Decepticon army at the Autobots, a pointless battle that'll decimate both sides in advance of his arrival. Rodimus, however, has been alerted of Unicron's presence, and leads a strike-team to stop him. Thanks to Rodimus, Wreck-Gar, and Death's Head, Unicron's head is destroyed and his mind trapped in the Matrix, while Scourge and Cyclonus end up sent back in time. A [[Time Wars|time rift]] appears in 2008, causing the destruction of the [[Quintesson]] homeworld. They investigate many mechanical planets for emergency colonisation, eventually settling on Cybertron; Wreck-Gar comes into possession of these plans. The Quintessons launch a devastating attack on Autobot City on Earth, drawing out Rodimus so they can steal the Matrix; simultaneously, they trick the Decepticons on Cybertron into heading into an ambush. The Earth forces are slaughtered by [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] and the Cybertron force undone by Soundwave calling in the Autobots to help. The Ark is deserted for reasons unknown; Galvatron II breaks in to find a number of Underbase-killed Autobots that he can rejuvenate and turn evil. Prowl, Ironhide, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, and Silverbolt are awakened, and go on to take him down. {{storylink|...Perchance to Dream}} Sometime after this, the other Aerialbots are also brought back online.

Shockwave attempts but fails to force Grimlock to reveal how he brought the Dinobots back. A disagreement between Optimus and Grimlock {{storylink|Two Steps Back!}} cause Grimlock to threaten to leave the Autobots, believing Optimus (concerned with Unicron) is not doing enough for Earth. Megatron and Shockwave try to regain control of their armies by putting hits out on Starscream and Shockwave. Their attempt is defeated by Earthforce, who are forced to keep Starscream alive after Snarl contracts [[Corrodia Gravis]] and only the Seeker is a suitable transplant donor. In order to prevent the Autobots being seen as human allies, the Decepticons abduct Iriwn {{storylink|Front Line! Post-timewars It'd probably be easier to jsut switch to three-collumn than the interleaved Earthforce/UK layout I have there (and the interleaving is pretty bad here since I hacked this together with photoshop.) But this is essentially what I'm proposing. 
Relevant ideas conveyed:
* Time Wars created a new timeline for the US stories (stated in the letters pages)
* Target 2006 and everythign that directly resulted from it (which is about 2/3 of the UK stories) didn't happen in that new timeline. Thus- the Nemesis is suddenly around again.
* Earthforce is a less drastic branch- it continues the UK timeline, but the 'UK Future' of the TFTM Comic Adaption is no longer valid. Nonetheless, Earthforce continues on it's merry path, and Unicron will arrive in 2006 while in the US he shows up early in 1991.
* Peace is the endpoint of the Earthforce timeline (Dreadwind made a poitn of Peace's healthy Rodimus not being in conflict w/ sick Rodimus from Aspects in the letters page.)

The result is- the US timeline stands more-or-less alone. A ''few'' UK stories took place in the new UK timeline (Deathbringer demonstrably, but probably also some other stuff like Decepticon Dam Busters that didn't matter that much.) Some holes had to be filled in the US timeline- and Marvel UK suddenly publishign the long-delayed Gi Joe teamup that explains why Bumblebee became goldbug instead of being rebuilt by Wreck-Gar (since Wreck-gar's visit had just been erased) really makes a lot of sense.

The UK timeline isn't the mess everyone claims it is- time travel ON TOP of the branching timelines and mini-Crisis makes it hard to sort out.... but there actually ''is'' a method to the madness.

It's been quite a while but just where does the idea that [[Time Wars (issue)|Time Wars]] altered the ''past'' come from? I remember someone suggested this in the UK letters page around about the 230s when they tried to guess at how Goldbug had become Bumblebee again in the Pretender Classics (before the relevant stories were printed), but the response was that this was wrong and the time changes hadn't gone backwards.

The reason for the UK comic suddenly running the G.I. Joe vs Transformers series was entirely due to problems of schedules - because the UK comic was weekly and some of the US stories were short enough to reprint in three issues the comic kept catching up so the next US story wasn't yet ready. This led to reprints in issues #221-231 & #255-258 that a lot of letter writers complained about, whilst the problem kept recurring so they instead ran the limited series as it could create a much larger gap in the publication schedule and solve the problem once and for all. It was always billed from the outset as including "the US origin of Goldbug" and never presented as being in continuity. (Similarly no effort was made to rename "G.I. Neither of these theories is right. Its actually all very simple. In the UK continuity there are 3 timelines. The main timeline splits from the original by Galvatron arriving in Target: 2006. The space time rift repairs itself by replacing the original time line with the 'Rhythms of darkness' timeline in which Galvatron never time-jumped. Earthforce takes place between 'Price of life' and 'Surrender' in a massive plot loop. (This was due to publishing problems at the time). A complete list can be found on the Marvel wikia and on a talk page of the Transformers wikia. Have a look and you will see it all makes sense.

I made a suggestion in regards to "in-universe" story summaries, but I made it in response to a year-old discussion on a character's talk page, so I think it probably was overlooked. I don't know if the suggestion is still relevant, but this seems to be a good place to put it forth again.

For context, the discussion was about writing summaries as in-universe, as actual events that really happened, and the counter-argument was that people may want to go back and view a story, but writing in-universe would not allow issue or episode number/title references.

What if we write the articles referring to plot points as events, as opposed to story titles, but we still put superscript links where appropriate, with the matching footnotes used to denote episode or issue numbers and titles? That way the article itself is still written "in-universe", but we also provide a reference for anyone who wishes to watch or read the plot in question.

::::The EArthforce stories clearly aren't trying to form a seperate continuity -- for example, in "Apsects of Evil" Scorponok is stalked by the Micromaster Air Strike patrol, because Furman knows that they belong to Megatron, as per his early US Stories. He also makes reference to the upcoming Decepticon Civil War. But Megatron's DEAD by the time the Civil War takes place -- sorta. He creates ECHOS of what's going to happen.

I just completely overhauled the section on Continuity. The previous basically just provided a Straw Man argument against reconciling Earthforce into the mainline continuity...saying the only way it would fit is some kind of (illogical) concurrent story approach. I think I covered all of the serious approaches to dealing with the Earthforce continuity. If these approaches have proper names, please change it. Also, I'm sure there are plenty of errors, omissions, and typos in what I wrote. I tried to cite the thing like crazy...probably to a fault. Also put in the Legacy section, which has some good arguments for what adding Earthforce to the continuity adds to the story as a whole. I definitely recommend somebody change the caption on the picture. While I didn't want it to reflect the concurrent story approach by claiming characters to be in two places, I also couldn't think of anything funny to say for some reason. Well here below is the answer to all the continuity problems you mention. Note the 3 parallel timelines. Earthforce can easily fit in the main timeline. I have spoken to Simon Furman myself and he said it he could have made it fit using the traditional plot loop. He had to do one big long storyline instead of short stories here and there because of the scheduling problems between the UK and US comics in 1990. I have contributed this list to other websites aswell. Enjoy.

The flashbacks take place as follows: Prowl was during “Decepticon Graffiti”. Ironhide was after “Man of Iron”. Sunstreaker (G1) was before “The Enemy Within”. Wheeljack was during “Shooting Star” and Silverbolt was before “The Gift”. Galvatron’s bug accelerated the revival of the five Autobots. During this story the Ark is deserted because the Autobots are striking a deal with Scorponok. The captured Decepticons are released.
Scorponok is convinced to return to Cybertron but leaves a contingent of newly repaired Decepticons, led by Soundwave, on Earth. The Decepticons leave first, across the Space bridge. Megatron then meets and leads Soundwave’s group. So Runamuck, Runabout and Motormaster leave and join Shockwave’s group but then Mindwipe and Triggerhappy leave Shockwave.

Some time later Shockwave’s Decepticons powered by Nucleon, can no longer transform but win a major victory against the Autobots. They take control of the Ark. This prompts the Autobots to create the Action Master process.

Megatron and Bludgeon are both repaired. The Decepticons injured on Klo are repaired.
Megatron’s Decepticons arrive on Earth. They meet Shockwave’s Decepticons and reluctantly join forces.
The Autobot Action-Masters are given transforming vehicles, partners and weapons. They win a major victory against the Decepticons.
Some Decepticons become Action-Masters. They are also given transforming vehicles, partners and weapons.
The Decepticons also acquire new Nucleon.
The remaining Micromaster patrols are appear, i.e. Hotrod patrol, Military patrol etc.
Galvatron returns, joins the Decepticons and is repaired.

1993
The Decepticons leave Earth
The Decepticons head for Cybertron.
The Transformers fight on Cybertron. There are many casualties including Galvatron and the Last Autobot. The Decepticons lose half their army.
The Decepticons leave Cybertron
The Decepticons return to Earth
The Decepticons stop using Nucleon because its side effects start to take affect. The Decepticons use the new Nucleon to cure themselves.
The remaining Decepticons make a last stand on Earth. The Decepticons lose the war. Bludgeon is disillusioned with Megatron and leaves him behind.

While I was searching through Walky's LJ archives, I came across an old post of his where he jokingly proposed that the wiki should have an 'Episode Jerk' feature for every Beast Machines episode article, as the stories rotated the jerk status around the Maximals in each episode. For a site that treats "Ruined FOREVER" like a joke, the reception section of this page sure is overwhelmingly negative and supercritical, bending over backwards to give full and VERY repetitive space to criticisms while presenting only weak ahd halfhearted defenses of the show (where even defenders purportedly acknowledge "mixed results," because apparently you're not allowed to like the show without hating at least a little of it). The '''Dreamwave ''Generation One'' continuity''' is a rebooted [[Generation 1 (franchise)|Generation 1]] universe, begun in 2002 by [[Dreamwave Productions]]. It freely combines elements of the cartoon and comics with new storylines, portraying events on [[Earth]] and [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] simultaneously. It was the first mainstream Generation 1 fiction since [[Marvel Comics|Marvel]]'s ''[[Generation 2 (Marvel comic)|Generation 2]]'' comics were canceled in 1994.

==Overview==
The story begins on present-day Earth; the [[Autobot]]s and [[Decepticon]]s are missing following the destruction of the ''[[Ark II]]'' spacecraft two years prior. A man whom you should call [[Lazarus]] revives some Transformers and attempts to control them, but soon they free themselves and renew their war. After an initial bout of conflict, Shockwave arrives from Cybertron to bring all the Earth-bound forces home to a supposedly united Cybertron. Inevitably, that alliance falls apart, and soon the war is gearing up again on Cybertron and Earth.

The [[War Within (comic)|''War Within'' series]] revealed the early days of the war, detailing Prime's early leadership and the chaos after he and Megatron disappeared, while the [[Transformers: Micromasters|''Micromasters'' comic]] portrayed the dark days leading up to the [[Great Shutdown]].

The immediate back story seems to be similar to the Generation 1 cartoon, with two small groups of Transformers isolated on Earth after crashing there thousands or millions of years ago, though a number of details prevent it from fitting in as a continuation of the cartoon. Familiar names such as [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike]] and [[Sparkplug Witwicky]] and [[Marissa Faireborn]] pop up as the series progresses.

Dreamwave's universe eventually hinted at a massively complex back story for the Transformers... as well as some occasional strange and surreal plot points. For example, the [[Micromaster]]s have Earth modes long before such forms actually existed on Earth... or before anyone has ever heard of the planet! This is explained as "preparation for the future," guided by a prescient [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]] and/or [[Vector Sigma]]. Another oddity is the "Great Shutdown," an event in the distant past which caused every Transformer on Cybertron to enter stasis as part of Cybertron's natural healing and regenerative cycle. Plot-wise, this device is used to explain the comparative lack of change on Cybertron while the Earth-bound Transformers slumber aboard the Ark; however, why ''every'' robot on Cybertron would shut down ''at the exact same moment'' is never made clear.

Though there is confirmation that [[Primus]] exists in this continuity, the Transformers are also hinted to have a sinister origin and history, possibly involving the [[Quintesson]]s, who have had numerous dealings with them over the eons. Numerous seeds were planted for a [[Unicron]] plot thread, but Dreamwave's collapse prevented this from ever coming to fruition.

===Cast===
The casting choices hew closely to the toy assortments. The Ark's crew seems to consist of the original 18 Autobots, the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]], and possibly the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]]. The Decepticons they face on Earth likewise consist of the original 1984 cast plus the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]]. A council of Autobots consists of the 7 Autobot cars from 1985. The [[Triple Changer]]s (Autobot ''and'' Decepticon) operate as a single battle unit. And so on.

Most characters are shown to have been on Cybertron, with most never appearing on Earth at all.

===Technology===
Much of Dreamwave's tech is based on the Generation 1 cartoon and comics with additional technology from ''[[Beast Wars (cartoon)|Beast Wars]]''; other aspects attempt to explain and tie together some of the unexplained points of the original Generation 1 series, such as clones and "[[Relatives|brothers]]".

The Dreamwave universe holds multiple alternate modes in high reverence. The Triple Changers are repeatedly mentioned as having a great advantage due to their multiple forms, as well as being able to switch between those forms twice as fast as normal Transformers. "Shockwave's experiments" are repeatedly mentioned as being part of the source for the Triple Changers as well as the [[Duocon]]s, though at one point Blitzwing's triple changing is mentioned as being a "natural evolution", with new parts spontaneously growing on him.

The universe was also massively expanded by the ''[[More Than Meets The Eye (G1)|More Than Meets The Eye]]'' profile books, which explained many aspects of the Transformers' technology and society. The books also gave fully fleshed personality to many characters who had previously been little more than a name and a quote.

The initial mini-series was penned by [[Chris Sarracini]], though later series eschewed much of what he established as far as possible without flat-out ignoring it. [[James McDonough]], along with [[Adam Patyk]], wrote the remainder of the main series. Omnipresent Transformers veteran [[Simon Furman]] provided the ancient history of the continuity with the ''War Within'' mini-series.

Art was done by a variety of artists, most prominently [[Pat Lee]] and [[Don Figueroa]].

This became so long so quickly that I'm hesitant to just dump it, but... it shouldn't be here. We have individual story pages (or will) for the comics stories, and that is where their respective summaries should go. This page concerns only the cartoon. Ok I admit you guys have valid points, but honestly though Beast Machines is ignored, especially with Beast Wars: Ascending series...nothing of the Beast Machinese Saga was mentioned or continued through that series and honestly i've examined Beast Machines and it poorly reflects Beast Wars. Rhinox turning evil!? Megatron just happen to get lost in the warp portal and managed to get through ahead of time than the Maximals and already enslaved call of Cybertron to Vechicons!? The whole thing sounds crappy, but you guys are right so when are you guys able to start an article about the Beast Wars comic then? :well pointed out, but whatever word you choose "ignore", "void", "revamp"..this whole matter is argumentative on that level because the fans are divided about what's canonical...in reality whoever owns the license rights tends to choose the direction of the series and have creative rights to change what has already happened, just look at Highlander 2...the hardcore fans hated it and it was redone several times because it was considered by majority that bad and I admit that I'm biased against Beast Machines cause i really think the story was poorly written however i never once thought about adding my personal feelings or opinions into this...IDW created a story line parallel to Beast Wars about time contamination and so you might say Beast Machines did happen, but because of Razor Beast's and Magmatron's interference with the time line is yet again further changed so it might be one of those time paradox's where it did happen, but it's been erased. Either way I understand your positions and honestly guys i tried looking for that "The Gathering" page but nothing surfaced on this site other than wikipedia's version online so i thought no one added it in. You guys made a fair call so i'm not going to challenge it, but I did write it based on the powers that control the direction of the Beast Wars universe currently and not in the past. I don't know about you guys, but those that control the license has a say what's canonical or not and right now the miniseries is by all technicality canonical. I apologize if i angered anyone, but seriously Beast Machines was like the Van Damne Street Fighter movie to me. :::Beast Machines is monumentally important to the overall franchise. Most of what we know about sparks and the Matrix/Allspark came from there. "The Gathering"'s franchise contributions amount to the novelty of seeing Razorbeast standing up and talking. Honestly, I think new would-be contributors should make an effort to read up on things like [[Canon]] and [[continuity families]] before they make proclamations about such on main article pages.

The allspark thing was a canon conflict in it's own right. People tend to forget a certain race of 4 headed floating bots with tentacles are the progenitors of the transformers race. If you looked to the original series and compared to Beast Machines then you know that the spark concept was only a recent addition to give transformers a "soul." Robert N. Skir created that conflict by explaining that transformers have their own version of life, death, and reincarnation. However if you've watched every transformers so far they don't reborn any means smarter or experienced than they are. Look at Cheetor, does the man look any way experienced to you? I don't have a problem with the spark concept, it help explains a lot...however with the Quintessons and Allspark it's a complete conflict of story and logic behind transformer origins and physiology. I rather stick to the original story that the Quintessons were overthrown by their own creations versus the Allspark. With the Allspark, it suggests no matter how many transformers you can muster, there will always be a population limit to their growth. To even create more transformers would mean the older generation must be wiped cause no transformer dies of old age, only when destroyed. I like the idea that a transformer can be built from tools and machines versus needing a powerful device glowing over a technological objects to be born, but that's just me -ShadowHawk

you're right these issues aren't just unique to beast machines but i was making a point to the other dude that argued the allspark was a great explanation to the more spiritual side of the transformers universe through beast machines...like i said before it's origins are very argumentative cause whoever has the rights to publish transformers stuff can say anything they want. If you're going comic on me, then it totally changes or dismiss the quintessons significance depending on which series or issue. Same goes with Primus as the "god" of transformers. I'm just trying to prove my point of the canonical errors within Beast Machines and it's rough relation with G1. Oh you know me by now, very hardcore when it comes to the supposed "true" history of transformers. If they say the Allspark was something the Quintessons left behind in their creation of the transformers then that would explain so much and i would totally shut my mouth up.- shadowhawk

:Your arguments do not make any sense. Your primary objection to Beast Machines now seems to be that it has some conflicts with the G1 cartoon, as if the G1 cartoon is the only true continuity, or as if the Beast shows even ''claimed'' that they were in the same continuity as the G1 cartoon, which they most definitely did not. The Beast Wars writers repeatedly stated that their series was set in ''neither'' the G1 cartoon nor the G1 comic continuity. BW and BM are set in a ''new continuity'' which is very similar to the G1 cartoon but with some notable differences, some drawn from the comics, and some entirely from the writers' imaginations. This is why we always list the Beast era fiction as its own tree instead of placing it under G1, even though the Beast fiction is part of the G1 continuity family. Additionally, if all it would take to satisfy you is for a canonical source to claim "oh, yeah, the Quints left the Allspark there or something" then there is obviously no actual conflict. You can just assume that yourself. It is not canonically true without being stated by the fiction, but that is the case for a lot of stuff we all take for granted, such as (to pick an old example) that G1 cartoon Bumblebee does not frequently murder humans when he is off-camera. If two pieces of fiction are in conflict, but there is a simple and obvious solution, then take it. Your arguments make it sound as if you need to read the [[continuity]] and [[canon]] articles so you can drop this "hardcore" outlook on the "true" history. That outlook is completely indefensible. Transformers fiction is a horrendous mishmish of conflicting alternate universes which frequently bleed out retcons into each other, and not everything is descended from the one continuity that you happen to like most. --[[User:Steve-o|Steve-o]] 13:59, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

There are too many conflicting histories, and there have been since the beginning. All we have are "official", ie, Hasbro-Takara-approved, and "non-official".

Ai guys I already told you this whole thing is argumentative and while I admit i have my likes/dislikes in "what works for me," i remember somewhere in Hasbro that "tied" in the the whole thing even though it wasn't supposed to work out. I already said I didn't try to personalize or add anything intentionally biased. For the G1 comics I was too young to appreciate them so I can't really sufficiently argue there cause I was still in my diapers when that happened and so it never occurred to me how relevant the comic version was since all I know is the popularity of the cartoon and toyline following up to recent modern comic works. I'm more sufficient in the recent works of the comics and only G1 toon, the G1 comics is one aspect I can't say much since I only know scraps from the republished versions. I had a friend that got some of them, but it's hard on the eyes with their dot coloring scheme like the papers. It's nice to meet other guys that know so much, steve i also had a little trouble following you at times to retort and it's been a pleasure debating with you guys. Keep contributing!-shadowhawk
