:Doublecross is an Autobot Monsterbot from the Generation 1 continuity family.

You can't depend on Doublecross, since he is literally of two minds about... well, everything. Each of his beast heads has its own personality and they can't agree on anything. Make a deal or set plans with one hissing half of Doublecross and you'll likely find the other knew nothing about it and refuses to help. And don't think that getting him to transform to robot mode will help, as there's no way of knowing which mind is in control. Just about the only thing they can agree with themselves on is destroying Decepticons. Thankfully they are, at least, good at that.

Fiction
Marvel comics continuity
Doublecross, along with the other Monsterbots, joined Fortress Maximus on his travels to Nebulos in search of peace. Ring of Hate!

The dream of peace proved faulty when the Decepticons followed them there and began taking control of the planet. Along with his fellow Monsterbots and various other Autobots, Doublecross took part in the attempted defense of the Mercury Gardens of Melanossus, smashing a Decepticon with a hurled chunk of concrete. As the Decepticon Headmasters unleashed their full firepower, however, Doublecross was of two minds about the situation, with one head saying they must fall back, while the other head demanded that they stay and fight. Grotusque agreed with the first head and ordered a retreat.

Upon returning to the Autobots' swamp encampment, Doublecross and Grotusque dejectedly reported the outcome of the battle to their fellow Autobots.

Not long afterward, Doublecross's flight abilities proved useful as the Autobots left Nebulos, awkwardly returning to their their orbiting ship, the Steelhaven. He may or may not have been carrying a fellow Autobot as a passenger. Brothers in Armor!!

He later participated in a giant Autobot-Decepticon rumble on the Moon. Totaled!

:Voice actor: Michihiro Ikemizu (right head) and Kōji Totani (left head) (Japanese)

Doublecross and the Monsterbots were sent to the planet Beast, where the Decepticons were enslaving the natives. After they helped free the slaves and the Decepticons were driven away, Rodimus Prime ordered the Monsterbots to stay on Beast just in case the enemy returned. Grotusque and Repugnus said they had nothing against that, while Doublecross just quietly hung out in the background. Rebellion on Planet Beast

Eventually, the Monsterbots were called away from the planet to serve as reinforcements during a battle against the Decepticons on planet Paradise. Doublecross literally fought fire with fire as his right head tried to extinguish a burning forest using its flaming breath. The left head chastised him for such stupid thinking before realizing that it didn't have a "water-breath" either, and both opted for stomping the flames out. Shortly afterwards, Doublecross joined up with the other Monsterbots, and together they defeated Abominus and helped drive the Decepticons off the planet. Head Formation of Friendship

Doublecross later found himself on Earth, separated from the other two Monsterbots. He defended an Autobot energy facility in Miami from a Decepticon attack, and spent most of the time arguing with himself until the Horrorcon duo attacked him. Ultra Magnus Dies!!

Transformers in 3-D
The three Monsterbots and Kup comprised Ultra Magnus's team during the search for Metascan Alpha. The group ended up on a desolate moon, confronted by Cyclonus and the Terrorcons. Ultra Magnus insisted they ignore the Decepticons and continue with their mission. They flew down to the planet below, only to find it under attack by the Destructons. Doublecross was quickly batted aside by Medusa. The Autobots beat a hasty retreat back to the moon, where the Destructons began beating on the Decepticons. Magnus and Doublecross aided the Decepticons, leading to the forming of a truce between the two factions. The War Against the Destructons, Chapter 1 of 3

3H comics
Less than 3 deca-cycles after the reformatting of Cybertron into a technorganic wonderland, Doublecross and his fellow Monsterbots (apparently all having undergone the Great Upgrade downsizing) are seen exiting a bar on Spaceport CSSB-16 soused out of their minds on some high quality energon. The Wreckers: Finale Part 1 If they had been a bit less drunk or exited just a bit later, they likely would have run smack into Devcon and the Dinobots. As it is... they just missed another chance to actually DO something in a TF story. sigh.
IDW comics continuity
Doublecross and the other Monsterbots traveled to Earth to bail out Grimlock. Maximum Dinobots issue 2 Upon arrival, Doublecross slaughtered Machination Headmasters by ripping them in two, incinerating them, and subjecting them to an extremely awful pun. Maximum Dinobots issue 3

After the initial bout of Headmaster slaughter, the Monsterbots agreed to drop the Dynobots off at Machination HQ for a final reckoning. Aboard their ship, Doublecross and Grotusque observed quietly (and slightly menacingly) as Repugnus negotiated a fee with Grimlock. The Monsterbots dropped the Dynobots off at their destination, while taking some anti-air fire. Luckily, the Monsterbots' ship was well-armed and they were able to easily destroy all ground defenses with a blanket dispersal of firepower. Maximum Dinobots issue 4

Their agreement with the Dynobots called for evac as well, and Slag, Snarl, and Swoop eventually showed up to be pulled out. Repugnus even offered up membership in the Monsterbots to the trio. But the three Dynobots eventually decided that they would stay behind to fight after all. The Monsterbots presumably left the planet shortly thereafter. Maximum Dinobots issue 5
Doublecross and the Monsterbots were created accidentally during an attempt to create new Autobots. Kup raced to warn Rodimus Prime and Blurr of the accident, as the wild Monsterbots trashed the lab where they were born. Thankfully the Decepticons Cyclonus, Scourge, and Octane attacked just then and the Monsterbots burst out of the building through the wall to fight them. Doublecross took on Cyclonus, chomping on him with both mouths. Rodimus expressed relief that, though they were monsters, at least they were Autobot monsters.
Pressing a lever on his back causes "cold" sparks to shoot from his dragon-mode collarbone and the buzzsaw in his chest to vibrate. As he does not have actual hands in robot mode, his "Rust-Ray Rifle" pegs into holes in his dragon-heads' jaws. There is a minor variation to the rifle: some have twin holes just above the "ammo clip", while others have two raised circles.
Notes
* Doublecross's Tech Spec gives him a Strength rating of "1". This is presumably an editing gaffe, since the only other times a "1" showed up in anybody's ratings were in cases such as the Mini-Vehicles and Throttlebots, under "Firepower"—indicating that they had no guns at all! However, Doublecross's "1" was taken at face value by the More than Meets the Eye profile books, which state that Doublecross is extremely weak. None of his fictional portrayals follow this, however.
Catilla was assigned to work for the Mayhem Attack Squad, the Decepticons' elite strike team counteracting the Autobot Wreckers. His first mission? Team up with the Wreckers. Granted, it was to battle Galvatron for the fate of four worlds, and they still had orders to kill any surviving Wreckers at the end, but still... Alanis would agree, that's ironic. Time Wars

After Galvatron and his allies massacred their way through the Mayhems, only Catilla, Snarler and their commander Carnivac were left alive. Their ship stolen by Megatron and Ravage, the Mayhems found themselves deliberately cut off from their superiors on Cybertron, who apparently saw the Time Wars as an embarrassment to be swept aside and ignored, along with the Mayhems. Even Scorponok of Earth was apparently unwilling to take them into the fold. He did, however, offer to refuel them and outfitted the three with Pretender shells in exchange for a "little job". While Carnivac and Snarler made an assassination attempt on Fortress Maximus's human half, Catilla stood watch on surveillance in case any reinforcements came running. Still, he somehow missed the orbital planetfall and arrival of Fortress Maximus himself, and the Decepticon trio were sent packing. The Man in the Machine!

Carnivac owed the Wrecker commander Springer a warrior's debt from the Time Wars and, seeing as how both groups were on the outs with their respective armies, approached the remaining Wreckers with an offer to pool resources. Catilla got a kick out of the idea, but Snarler was ready to brand them traitors for even considering it. Once Carnivac and Catilla committed themselves to the alliance by charging in to rescue Springer's group in battle, Snarler stalked off, bitterly planning to return with an execution squad. As the dust settled, a new group formed out of the Wreckers and Mayhems known as the Survivors, and Springer even offered to make the two Pretenders honorary Autobots. Carnivac wished to remain a Decepticon, but Catilla jumped at the opportunity. Survivors!

Things weren't smooth sailing from then on, though. Catilla eased into the role of human-saving do-gooding Autobot rather well, but Carnivac was having trouble letting go of his warrior's past. After a fight with Springer, he stormed off and ended up in a six-against-one fight with the new Mayhem Attack Squad, led by Snarler, on a mission to execute the traitors. Way of the Warrior Springer let his recent fight with Carnivac cloud his judgement, but while he was dragging his feet, Catilla charged ahead to rescue his fellow ex-Decepticon with or without the Survivors' help. He reached the site of the battle just in time to stop Spinister from gunning down Carnivac, but ended up taking Bludgeon's sword to the chest. As the Survivors finally arrived to chase away the Mayhems, Carnivac held Catilla's body as he died, and vowed revenge on Snarler and the Mayhem Attack Squad. A Savage Place!
If ever there was a robot in need of years in therapy, Cloudraker is he. Nothing is good enough for him. He envies his younger clone brother Fastlane's popularity and social skills, wishes he was on the ground with people while simultaneously being terrifed of being grounded. In response to this fear he flies as high as possible, but then becomes frustrated by being bound in an atmosphere. Internal malfunctions lead him to feel claustrophobic at all times, even when flying in an empty sky. Simply a mass of crossed circuits, phobias and frustrations, it's a wonder he's able to function at all. His most daring stunts can be a bit dangerous to others who happen to be nearby (he once caused a HUGE accident on Cybertron by doing a 360 in confining heavy traffic at 500 miles per hour) but no one's ever been really hurt by them except for Fastlane himself when he pushes his design just a little too far.
Fastlane and Cloudraker were once friends with another pair of Cybertronian Clones named Pounce and Wingspan. The two duos lost contact with each other for some time, during which Pounce and Wingspan joined the Decepticons. Fastlane and Cloudraker were confronted by their old friends, who were looking to take a golden skull from their Autobot counterparts and use it to collect a unique energy source from the Pirate Planet. While trying to keep the skull from the Decepticon Clones, Fastlane and his brother made contact with the Autobot Headmasters aboard the Battleship Maximus. Mystery of the Space Pirate Ship

The Clones accompanied the Headmasters back to Earth, and remained there allied with Metroplex and Spike Witwicky when Fortress took his men to defend the planet Master. As the Decepticons began a series of attacks around the globe, Spike dispatched Fastlane, Cloudraker and the Throttlebots to Santiago, Chile to investigate the emergence of one of Scorponok's Death Towers. They were thoroughly trounced by Predaking, who was guarding the tower. The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 1)
The two clones dealt with Blast Off by luring him through a door and then clocking him on the head with a metal bar. :Fastlane was available in a two-pack with his brother/clone, Cloudraker. He transforms into a futuristic dragster. He has two heat-sensitive rubsigns on his chest—one indicates he is an Autobot, the other reveals a dragster image, indicating which Clone he is. Flywheels tries to keep it together and stay upbeat, he really does, but it's hard when your mind (and often your body) is literally divided in two. A split personality would be trouble enough, but to add injury to illness, Flywheels's two halves are very jealous of each other and basically hate each other's guts. They spend more time fighting one another than the Autobots. It doesn't matter whether they're unified in robot form or not, Flywheels's two halves go right on arguing, which can be disconcerting to others around him, to say the least.
Marvel Comics UK continuity
Flywheels first appeared in a brief battle against Ultra Magnus and the Sparkabots. He was knocked out of the air by Ultra Magnus and was captured by the Autobots. As a prisoner, he was soon forced to fight with his captors against a horde of zombie Transformers in Kalis let loose by Flame. Flywheels disobeyed Ultra Magnus's order not to open fire on the zombots. City of Fear! While engaged in the fighting with the zombots, Ultra Magnus allowed Flywheels to go and get reinforcements, though he had little expectation of the Duocon's return. Flywheels, alongside Battletrap, worked under Scorponok, who first sent them into battle when the Autobots and Decepticons were fighting over a disk containing data on the Master Sword. The Duocons' double amount of vehicle modes was enough to overwhelm the Autobot Targetmasters, and the Decepticons quickly grabbed the disk and retreated. The Master Sword Is in Danger!! Flywheels soon appeared again to defend Scorponok as he used the disk's data to manufacture the Zarak Shield. The Zarak Shield Turns the Tide
A "twitchy neoprimalist with big feet" who suffers from a possibly made-up form of psychosomatic hyperflexia that causes him to change form when he lies, Flywheels was part of Krok's ragtag Decepticon crew along with Misfire, Spinister and Crankcase after the Great War ended. Searching for energon and supplies on the planet Clemency, Flywheels mistook the still-living body of Fulcrum firstly for a miracle and then for a zombie and an affront to Primus. Once that misunderstanding had been sorted out the group then chanced upon a P-6 Worldsweeper, a type of ship that Flywheels noted was famous only for "crashing". What they found on board the ship, such as aborted protoforms, disconnected brain modules and a robot apparently made out of wood was disturbing enough, but then they were contacted by the Decepticon Justice Division through Flywheels's communicube and given an ultimatum to surrender one of their number so that the other six could watch him die. As there were only six of them the group reasoned that the D.J.D. must have miscounted, until Krok discovered that the ship also contained Grimlock in a stasis pod. Rules of Disengagement

After agreeing on the seemingly-suicidal plan to fight their way out, the Scavengers spiked Grimlock's stasis pod with circuit speeders and left him out for the D.J.D. to find. While Tarn battled the Dinobot leader, the rest of the Decepticons tried to slip away but were ambushed in turn by the rest of the D.J.D. and Flywheels was killed by Tesarus. His surviving comrades looted his corpse for spare parts and energon and left the body on Clemency, where, 18 months later, his remains were examined by the Necrobot. Scavengers (Part 2): Who's Afraid of the DJD?
Of the two Duocons, Battletrap is the sane one. In contrast to Flywheels, whose two components are constantly bickering, Battletrap uses the two separate vehicles of his alternate mode in concert with each other. ==Synopsis==

Having recently escaped from his entombment in Mount Verona, Galvatron approaches the Decepticons' island base, causing Shockwave to fear for his position as leader. Against Soundwave’s recommendation he unleashes the Seacons who have recently arrived on Earth to fortify the base. They attack Galvatron, much to the future Decepticon’s amusement.

Meanwhile on the surface the Sparkabots, on Springer’s orders, have been tracking Galvatron since his escape from the volcano. As they plan what action to take they are attacked by the Firecons who have been sent to Earth to forge an alliance between Galvatron and the Decepticons on Cybertron.

Galvatron makes short work of the Seacons even when they combine to form Piranacon. Shockwave begins to fear that he has made a terrible mistake by attacking Galvatron so hastily and he gathers the Decepticons together, ready to fight Galvatron. Much to Shockwave’s horror and surprise when Galvatron enters the base he informs the Decepticons that he had come in peace to form an alliance. But now because Shockwave chose to attack him he is now their enemy.

Galvatron then leaves Shockwave to deal with his angry troops. His plan had always been to undermine Shockwave’s leadership so that the Decepticons would ultimately welcome him when he later takes control.

As he comes out of the ocean Galvatron is approached by the Firecons with an offer of an alliance. He laughs the suggestion off and leaves the Firecons and Sparkabots alone on the beach. Shockwave decides that what he needs is an expendable weapon and begins his search for Megatron.
* Galvatron is missing his cannon when he picks up Piranacon but it reappears when he throws him in the next panel.
* Sizzle dives deep into the ocean despite only being a few feet away from the shore.
Items of note
* First appearance of the Seacons.
* First appearance of the Sparkabots.
* First appearance of the Firecons. Did Hasbro UK order all this product placement at once?
* There are several notable variances between the new characters and their toys, possibly due to Marvel UK receiving early and/or incomplete information about toys that were not yet on sale when the story was produced. Variances include:
** The Seacon known as Jawbreaker in the comic was released as a toy under the name of Overbite. A letters page later clarified that Shockwave arbitrarily renamed Jawbreaker "Overbite" when he arrived on Earth, but that everyone still called him Jawbreaker.
** Fizzle and Sizzle's colour schemes were reversed so that Fizzle appeared in red and Sizzle in blue. This was consistently followed for all their future appearances in robot mode in the UK comic, though Fizzle's car mode would be coloured blue from "City of Fear!" onwards. However in the US story "Ca$h and Car-nage!" they would appear in their toy colours.
** The Sparkabots are here referred to as the Sparkler Mini-Bots.
** Snaptrap's name is consistently spelt as two words—Snap Trap.
* Shockwave is a jerk.
* Despite his fear of Galvatron and knowing how powerful the future Decepticon is, Shockwave only surrounds himself with five other Decepticons for the showdown - none of which are known for the strength or firepower needed to combat Galvatron; surely strength in numbers would have been more logical?
* Following the demise of the UK Action Force (G.I. Joe) comic after 50 issues, Transformers issue #153 saw the comic start to reprint US G.I. Joe stories as the regular back-up strip. The comic's name was changed to The Transformers and Action Force.
* Additionally the Robo-Capers strip was replaced by Action Forces Combat Colin.

Issue #152:
* Iron Man - "Stratosfire" Part 7
* Robo-Capers

Issue #153:
* Action Force - "Slaughter" Part 1
* Combat Colin

Reprints
* This story was reprinted in Collected Comics #14. A printing error resulted in the inversion of the colours on page five of part two.

* It was reprinted again by Titan Books in 2003 as part of their "Legacy of Unicron" trade paperback. The colours were correct this time.
Synopsis

* Overbite is inconsistently drawn with his toy's limbs and sometimes without.
* Overbite does not form one of Piranhacon's limbs when the Seacons combine, however Piranhacon uses a standard generic gun instead of Overbite's Targetmaster form. Despite this, Overbite is still seen falling after Galvatron blasts Piranhacon apart.
Rodimus Prime and Death's Head battle Unicron on Junk and learn of the Transformers' origin.

Synopsis
Taking place in 2008, "freelance peacekeeping agent" Death's Head chases his latest bounties, Decepticons Cyclonus and Scourge, to the skies over Junk. After a brief but intense battle, all three succumb to the thrall of Unicron, whose head landed on Junk following the events in 2005. After assassinating Shockwave, the Decepticon leader in 2008, Cyclonus and Scourge send the Decepticon army on a suicide assault against the Autobot-controlled Cybertron. Unicron hopes that both armies will decimate each other in battle, thereby granting his long-desired revenge against the Transformer race.

Unicron has also enslaved the Junkions, and has forced them to attach his head to Junk to serve as his new body. He has also had them construct a time portal, which will allow him to retrieve his errant creation, Galvatron from his refuge in 1988.

Wreck-Gar, Smokescreen and Inferno land on Junk shortly thereafter and are attacked by Death's Head and the Junkions, Unicron's unwilling pawns. Wreck-Gar is blasted and captured by Death's Head, but escapes when his captor is distracted by a command from Unicron. Inferno and Smokescreen escape to Cybertron in their shuttle, only to be shot down by Cyclonus and Scourge. Inferno dies in the resulting crash, after throwing Smokescreen from the ship. Smokescreen reports the situation on Junk to Rodimus Prime. After some hesitation, Rodimus agrees to go to Junk, and brings Scattershot and the Dinobots along as backup.

Back on Junk, Death's Head decides that he's through with being Unicron's slave, and opens fire on his master. Unicron, unimpressed, begins to mentally torture the non-bounty hunter. To escape the pain, Death's Head forces his psyche away from his body and into Unicron's mind, on the astral plane. There, after trading verbal jabs with the Chaos Bringer, Death's Head tricks Unicron into revealing his history and that of the Transformers.

Meanwhile, Rodimus' team has arrived on Junk. Rodimus sends the Dinobots to distract the Unicron-influenced Junkions, resulting in many "innocent" Junkion casualties. Smokescreen and Scattershot stay on the Autobots' shuttle to distract Unicron with a series of strafing runs. The attack drives Unicron to expel Death's Head from his mind and recall Scourge and Cyclonus from Cybertron. With their new leaders fleeing the planet, the other Decepticons follow suit and retreat.

Death's Head runs into Rodimus, and the two devise a plan to defeat Unicron. Feigning obedience, Death's Head presents the seemingly inert body of Rodimus Prime—and the Creation Matrix—to his master. Rodimus then uses Death's Head's mental projection to insert himself into Unicron's mind. There he is savagely attacked by the Chaos Bringer.

Wreck-Gar, having escaped Death's Head and his Junkion brethren earlier, had tunneled beneath Unicron's head and set up a series of explosive charges. Death's Head discovers this and immediately pulls Rodimus from the mind link with Unicron.

Scourge and Cyclonus arrive on Junk just before the explosives detonate. Death's Head, seeing an opportunity to claim his original quarry, tackles the duo through the now-activated time portal. Wreck-Gar's charges detonate, destroying both Unicron and the time portal. Rodimus Prime, after verifying that his friends are safe, comes to realize that Unicron has not been destroyed completely, but is now trapped within the Matrix.

Cyclonus and Scourge were sent back in time far enough to become soldiers in Scorponok's army, but Death's Head disappeared thereafter.
Errors
* Unicron requires the Junkions to construct a time portal to retrieve Galvatron from 1988. However, in a later story also penned by Furman, the Unicron of the main Marvel US continuity kidnaps a Galvatron from an alternate future timeline without the use of a time portal. Perhaps the Chaos Bringer usually has a time portal housed somewhere in his body, and being little more than a head in this story left him with no option but to build an external one?
* The planet is called Junk. Presumably by now Simon Furman had seen the movie where Perceptor refers to the "planet of junk", but was unaware that both the movie script and the cartoon series called it Junkion. This is not the first time this sort of thing happened in the UK comic...

Items of note
* This is the first version of Furman's big origin story. Interestingly, Unicron only refers to wanting "total domination" of the universe rather than total annihilation. This, and the idea of Unicron and Primus as entities among larger pantheons, would get dropped later on.
* By going back in time to serve under Scorponok, Furman reconciled Cyclonus and Scourge's appearances in the United Kingdom story with their first appearance in the United States Headmasters limited series.
* Death's Head, although gone from the United Kingdom Transformers timeline, was far from dead. After an encounter with the Doctor, he was then sent to the regular Marvel continuity, and subsequently starred in a series of short-lived titles.
* The future Autobots were last seen in "Fire on High!". After this story, they appear next in "The Big Broadcast of 2006" and "Space Pirates!".
* Unicron claims that inside his mind, the Matrix actually makes him stronger. His other claim, that he can absorb it and they will become one stronger entity, turned out to be true. However, the "make me stronger" bit doesn't work when it's Unicron inside the Matrix and not vice versa.
* Grapple can be seen in Part 3 gunning down one Decepticon at pointblank range without looking while also firing on Blitzwing. This is surprisingly awesome for the guy.
* The way Shockwave was killed has haunted Nick Roche since childhood...

Junkionisms
Most of Wreck-Gar's pop-culture references in this story are generic TV, film and sports references that don't refer to any shows in particular, unlike past and future issues that include a lot of references to British television programmes. There are still a few that can be singled out, though:
*"Tonight on Question Time, we ask..."—A reference to the topical debate TV show of the same name;.
*"Four faults!"—In showjumping, "faults" are penalties received for mistakes. "Four faults" is a common number, and Wreck-Gar subjects himself to this amount after being forced to kill a Junkion in Part 2. The equine theme continues in Part 5, when he sets off a bomb timer with a cry of "And they're off!"
*Wreck-Gar's opening monologue from Part 5 is done in the style of the famous mission briefings from Mission: Impossible, using many of the famous quotes from that show ("Your mission, should you choose to accept it..." "...disavow any knowledge..." "...will self-destruct in five seconds!"). In the midst of it, he sneaks in a reference to the shampoo, Head & Shoulders;.
*"Analysis, Mister Spock!"—If you don't know, we can't help you.
*"It's time to countdown to today's prize."—Countdown is a long-running British TV quiz show.
*"So it's goodnight from me... and goodnight from him!"—This two-man farewell was uttered by Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett at the conclusion of each episode of their television series, The Two Ronnies.
*"Th-th-that's all, folks!"—Again, if you don't recognise this, there's nothing that can be done for you.
Shockwave hires Death's Head to kill Rodimus Prime in a plan to rid himself of Cyclonus and Scourge.

Synopsis
In the year 2007, Shockwave, tiring of Galvatron's former lieutenants Cyclonus and Scourge, plans to eliminate them. He hatches a plan to hire the <s>bounty hunter</s> freelance peacekeeping agent Death’s Head to assassinate Rodimus Prime.

Shockwave then reveals this to Cyclonus and Scourge, knowing that in their arrogance they will try to interfere and kill Rodimus Prime themselves in an attempt to get back at Death’s Head for the injuries he inflicted on them while hunting for Galvatron. Wanted: Galvatron — Dead or Alive!

Death’s Head ambushes Rodimus Prime as he makes a tour of the Autobase's trench defences. Quickly dispatching his bodyguards Death’s Head overpowers Rodimus and prepares to strike the killing blow, only to be shot in the back by Scourge.

In the confusion Rodimus escapes down the trench, followed by Cyclonus and Scourge, who leave Death’s Head for dead. A game of cat and mouse ensues as Rodimus tries to shake his pursuers. Eventually he manages to evade them and they come face to face with Death’s Head, who survived their attack. Enraged at their interference, he attacks them and they are forced to flee.

As they escape they accidentally lead Death’s Head to Rodimus’ location, causing the bounty hunter to change his target. Rodimus briefly overcomes Death’s Head and makes his escape out of the trench, closely followed by his attacker. Death’s Head is shocked to find that he has come out in the middle of the Autobase and is surrounded by heavily armed Autobots.

Rodimus agrees to let Death’s Head leave if he will kill Cyclonus and Scourge and pays him 10,000 Shanix in advance for the job. Wanting revenge, Death’s Head agrees.
Quotes
"We Decepticons offer you safe passage to Cybertron, detailed information on Prime's movements. We offer you revenge!"

"And where's the profit in that, eh? Revenge may be satisfying on one level but it doesn't pay the rent, right?"

:—Blot is no Swindle when it comes to making deals, especially with Death's Head.

"Cyclonus and Scourge may have saved me, but you can bet it wasn't out of the kindness of their hearts. They'll keep after me till I'm dead! Huh - for a moment there, when Death's head pressed that gun against my head, I almost felt relieved. At last - an end to the constant burden of leadership! Perhaps I should just wait here - accept my fate. I'm tired, so very tired of this endless war... But if I die, what then? What then?!"

:—Rodimus Prime, thinking more like his cartoon self.

"It's time we settled this... ...out in the open - yes? Or at least inside Autobase! You see, those 'A' markings chart the route we use when we want to leave Autobase undetected. It became a simple matter to follow them back here. Still want my head, bounty-hunter..?"

"Hmm. Maybe I let you off, yes?"

"I've a better idea. Seems we've both got scores to settle with Cyclonus and Scourge, so I'll make you a business proposition. Here's ten thousand Shanix - in advance. All you have to do to earn it is bring me the heads of Scourge and Cyclonus! Do us both a favour - yes?

"Do Shockwave a favour too. Maybe that's why he let 'em come after me, eh..? Still - I accept. Through I rarely mix the two... this particular bit of business... will be a pleasure!"

:—Rodimus Prime finally learns how one successfully makes deals with Death's Head.

Errors
* The Autobots' trench defences don't seem to be very good. Not only can a bounty hunter and two heavily armed Decepticons wander in and attack the Autobot leader undetected, they also provide an easy access hatch right inside the Autobot base.

Items of note
* This story is the start of a story arc that concludes in "The Legacy of Unicron!".

Secondary Transformers Stories
On rare occasions, the Marvel UK issues ran two new (to the UK audience, at least) Transformers stories in the same issue. This is the case for both parts of "Headhunt" The secondary story in issue #133 being part 4 of "Ring of Hate!" While the secondary story in issue #134 is part 1 of "Broken Glass!".

Reprints
* This story was reprinted in issues #225–228 of the UK Transformers series.
* It was later reprinted by Titan Books in 2003 as part of their Legacy of Unicron trade paperback.
