All he asks is to offer his meager energy-absorption powers in the services of that amazing genius, Starscream, and he can also beg to please you by blinding your enemies with flashes of brilliant light. Needless to say, that amazing genius Starscream likes him a lot.

Though he would never compare his abilities to [[Skywarp (Animated)|other clones]], this overriding personality trait does not seem to affect his performance as a warrior too badly. Sunstorm humbly succeeded the fabulous [[Clone number 2716057|Clone #2716057]] in Starscream's clone army. His suck-up nature was even more prominent, as he basically kissed the aft of everyone he came in contact with. {{storylink|A Bridge Too Close, Part I}}

During the space bridge battle, Sunstorm freed the briefly captured but still majestic [[Ramjet (Animated)|Ramjet]] and just barely managed to get a pair of [[stasis cuffs]] on handsome [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]]. He made sure to tell the Autobot how ''impressed'' he was with Prowl's use of the cuffs, so much so that he had to try the move out himself.

He quickly capitulated to the vastly superior Megatron as soon as the tenacious Starscream was beheaded, and even sucked up to mighty [[Omega Supreme (Animated)|Omega Supreme]]... before getting smashed into the dirt and blasted for it. What an honor! {{storylink|A Bridge Too Close, Part II}}

When the [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|superbly idiotic Sentinel Prime]] made a deal with the [[Lockdown (Animated)|great Lockdown]] to capture the other Decepticons that remained on Earth in exchange for probably some fantastic upgrades, Sunstorm was one of the first three he captured, though Sentinel received the credit for it. Sunstorm was eager to tell the Autobots about how fantastic his capture was, but Sentinel Prime cut him off by clamping his mouth shut. {{storylink|Five Servos of Doom|Five Servos of Doom}}

He joined in the battle against Sentinel, the newly-arrived [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]], and the ace fliers [[Jetfire (Animated)|Jetfire]] and [[Jetstorm (Animated)|Jetstorm]], before the Autobots trapped him and the remaining Decepticons in a block of ice. How clever!

There he ran around randomly breaking things until the Autobots, unaware of his presence, placed a bomb in the sewers, intending to prevent them from falling under Decepticon control. When the Autobots detected a strange signal coming from the collapsing sewers, they sent in a small team to investigate. The team was confronted with the sight of Magnus crashing through a wall, and realized he'd been corrupted. With time short, the Autobots fought Ultra Magnus until the Dark Energon was purged from his system and he regained his senses. Shockwave moved to [[Kaon]], becoming a surgeon for the gladiators, where he met [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]]us. He continued his combination experiments with the three [[Insecticon (WFC)|Insecticon]]s, whom Megatronus bested in combat: it was in this match that the crowd chanted a shorter name for the gladiator, Megatron. Megatron recognized two things about Shockwave: that he was absent of any morality and ethics, and that while he was his most loyal ally, he would turn on him one day.

During the [[Autobot]]-[[Decepticon]] war, Shockwave perfected his experiments with the [[Constructicon (WFC)|Constructicon]]s, creating a [[Devastator (WFC)|Devastator]] which was unleashed on Crystal City. Shockwave set up a laboratory in the ruins but was ordered to take command of the newly conquered city state [[Tarn]]. Autobot sympathizers became fodder for experiments, while Shockwave's forces conquered [[Vos]]. He quelled dissent in both cities by requesting Vos' Air Commanders [[photon missile]] strike Tarn, for which he claimed the Autobots were responsible, and then had a photon missile strike (of supposedly unknown origin) ordered on Vos, killing the Air Commanders whose true loyalty lay with [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]].

When the Decepticons captured [[Trypticon (WFC)|Trypticon]] Station, Shockwave oversaw two of Starscream's scientists ingest [[Dark Energon]]: the powerful result activated a security [[gyro-inhibitor charge]] which rendered Shockwave unconscious.
