Jack learns more about Optimus' history on Cybertron while the Autobots continue their battle at the Earth's core.

Synopsis
As he leads the Autobots further toward Earth's core, Megatron is again seized by a vision of the planet exploding. He notes how Unicron's strength grows ever stronger, and continues on. Arcee and Optimus both voice their mistrust of the Decepticon leader, though have no choice but to follow him. Unbeknownst to them, several strange mechanical creatures observe the intruders to their dark domain.

Back at base, Ratchet and the humans watch a report that outlines how the planet's chaotic weather continues to spiral out of control. Despite June's efforts to lighten the mood, Agent Fowler insists that something must be done — even if it means contacting his associates at the Pentagon. Fowler makes known his uneasiness about teaming up with Megatron, but Ratchet surprises the humans by explaining how such a situation has happened before. Ratchet explains how Optimus Prime and Megatron were once close friends, in the twilight hours of Cybertron's Golden Age. He states that the great Autobot leader was once named Orion Pax, a simple clerk in the Iacon Hall of Records. [[Image:OneShallRise3-corresponding.jpg|left|thumb|250px|Once I called you "Brother"<br>
Once I thought the chance to make you laugh<br>
Was all I ever wanted...<br>
And even now<br>
I wish that God had chose another<br>
Serving as your foe on His behalf<br>
Is the last thing that I wanted...!]] Orion Pax, learning of Cybertron's past, grew concerned about the corruption affecting high places and the state of inequity in society. Orion became inspired by the revolutionary words of Megatronus; a gladiator who took his name from one of the thirteen original Primes. Megatronus gained a loyal following through his radical and innovatory actions, Soundwave chief among their number. Over time, Megatronus became a mentor figure to Orion Pax, and chose to shorten his name as he left the gladiatorial arena for the political one. Megatron appeared before the High Council, voicing his ideas for shaping a new Cybertron by violent means, and demanded to be named the next Prime. Orion protested against Megatron's suggestions before the Council, moving their sparks and minds as he unknowingly revealed himself to be the one worthy of the title. Megatron severed his ties to Orion and the Council, taking his 'Decepticon' followers to begin the war that consumed Cybertron and vowing to claim the legendary Matrix of Leadership for himself. Hoping to reverse the damage that had poisoned the planet, Orion journeyed to Cybertron's Core – where he found himself before the spark of Primus, the creator of all Cybertronians. Primus sensed the purity of Orion's own spark and bestowed upon him the legendary Matrix, transforming him into Optimus Prime. In the present; Miko and Jack question Optimus' plan to give the Matrix to the Earth's core, asking what could possibly stop Megatron from attempting to claim if for himself now. Ratchet sceptically replies that Megatron only intends to save the Earth so that he may conquer it at a later date.

As they near Unicron's spark, Bulkhead begins to feel the draining effects of the Dark Energon. Bumblebee and Arcee help him a short way across the catwalks, but Megatron soon comes to a halt ahead with the realisation that Unicron is preparing to expel them. A huge number of Unicron's drones suddenly swarm into view, surrounding Megatron and the Autobots. They engage the drones in fierce battle, blasting and slashing through their attackers. Arcee is knocked to a lower level, not long before the Dark Energon clouds Bulkhead's vision. He stumbles from the catwalk but manages to grab hold of the platform, and is seized by Bumblebee before he can tumble to his death. Optimus and Megatron fight back-to-back, managing to hold their own against the drones in a spectacular display of effective — if uneasy — teamwork. Bumblebee struggles to hold onto Bulkhead, who insists that the scout lets him go. Optimus seizes Bulkhead just as Bumblebee loses his grip, and hauls him up to safety. As the group quickly becomes overwhelmed, Arcee hitches a ride on one of the drones to catch up with the others and beat a swift retreat.

Aboard the Nemesis, Airachnid outlines the questionable nature of their leader's recent behaviour. Knock Out asks whether she is suggesting that they abandon Lord Megatron. Airachnid explains how Megatron's undetectable signal implies that he is either offline or at the mercy of Unicron — neither scenario is in the best interests of the Decepticons. She suggests an exodus from Earth, and receives no protests from the surrounding Vehicons. Her order to retreat to Regulon Four is denied by Soundwave, who silently challenges her authority. She assumes an aggressive stance, ordering him to step aside. Soundwave does not comply, so she leaps to attack him. Soundwave easily blocks every one of her blows, before lifting her clean into the air. He hurls her back, deploying Laserbeak to stun Airachnid in a sudden sneak attack. Pinned under Soundwave's foot, much to Knock Out's amusement, Airachnid relinquishes command to the intelligence officer.

Back in the Autobot base, Ratchet notes how he has lost the others' communication links and life signals, most likely caused by interference from the electromagnetic anomalies. Miko asks how they are supposed to know when the others are ready for pickup if contact is impossible — but Ratchet is prevented from responding by the sound of Jack tapping the GroundBridge key against a railing. Ratchet reveals that the object is actually the Key to Vector Sigma — one of Cybertron's most precious relics. Ratchet then realises that Optimus entrusted the key to Jack because he did not plan on returning from the planet's core.

Megatron is gripped by yet another painful vision of Unicron whilst he and the Autobots are backed into an enclosed chamber by the attacking drones. Unicron orders him to destroy Optimus. Instead, Megatron saves the Autobot leader by blasting an oncoming drone. He then indicates a closed doorway nearby, stating that Unicron's spark lies just beyond. He explains how, to pass through, they must fool Unicron into believing that they pose no danger, and moves his Dark Energon-infused chest up to the door. It opens in response, and Optimus orders the others to remain outside and provide cover fire while he and Megatron advance.

The passageway beyond leads directly into Unicron's spark chamber, where Optimus prepares to expose the Matrix within his chest. Unicron's spark reacts, striking both invaders with its energy. Unicron again orders Megatron to kill Optimus, forcing him to unsheathe his blade and approach the weakened Prime. Megatron struggles against him, declaring himself to be under the command of no-one. His resistance provokes only an onslaught of pain and a furious reaction from the Chaos Bringer.

The volcano outside erupts violently, and the ground enclosing the Autobot base begins to quake. Ratchet tells the humans to take cover, and moves to shield them from falling debris with his arms.

Unicron's spark adopts the appearance of a face, as Megatron is seemingly freed from his control. Optimus calls upon the power of the Matrix of Leadership, though hesitates as Unicron possesses Megatron's body in a veil of purple flame and declares his own invincibility. Optimus cuts short Unicron's desire to pull the Earth into chaos, and rises to his feet as he too becomes surrounded by a brilliant blue light. Optimus fires the power of the Matrix from his chest directly into Unicron's spark, the resulting wave of energy knocking Megatron back off his feet. His energy drained, Optimus falls to his knees, and Unicron's spark emits a final wail of pain before vanishing into oblivion.

The drones outside suddenly fall from the air, lifeless. The volcano, along with all of the Earth's other natural phenomena, subside back to normality. Ratchet and the humans watch as the monitors flicker online, rejoicing as their team's life signals are all safely re-established. Aboard the Nemesis, however, Soundwave also detects the signature of the Decepticon leader.

Megatron rights himself in Unicron's now-empty spark chamber, inspecting Optimus' steaming body for a moment before unsheathing his blade. Optimus gazes blearily up at the approaching Decepticon, addressing him as 'Megatronus' while asking about their current location. Surprised, Megatron retracts his weapon and helps the Autobot to his feet. Bumblebee, Bulkhead and Arcee soon burst through the wall to assist, but Optimus does not recognise them. A GroundBridge suddenly opens nearby; Megatron claims that the Autobots are their sworn enemies, and provides cover fire as Optimus heads for the vortex. Optimus blankly meets Bumblebee's devastated gaze for a split second, before disappearing through the Bridge. Megatron follows, leaving the shocked Autobots alone in the empty chamber.

Ratchet GroundBridges the team back to base, but is anxious to see that Optimus is not with them. They explain that Optimus is still alive, but did not even know his own name. Ratchet realises that surrendering the Matrix of Leadership caused their leader to lose not only the wisdom of the Primes, but his own memories as well.

Knock Out and the other Decepticons, minus Airachnid, welcome Megatron back aboard the Nemesis. Megatron steps aside to allow Optimus through, and Breakdown automatically moves to attack. Megatron halts him, insisting that this is no way to treat a 'long lost comrade', and declares that Orion Pax is one of them.
Notes
Animation and technical errors
*All of the natural disasters around the world abruptly stop when Unicron is beaten. While it might make sense for the earthquakes to stop, tidal waves wouldn't just suddenly fall apart. Forward momentum doesn't just vanish. Similar problems occur with the tornadoes dissipating and the sky clearing.
*At the Earth's core, the Autobots should experience very little gravity, as the total mass of Earth would be reasonably equally distributed around them and therefore the pull of gravity would be cancelled out.

Continuity errors
*Why is Bulkhead the only one affected by the Dark Energon? This might be explained by Ratchet's comment in the previous episode about building up a resistance to it. Of the five Autobots, Bulkhead has had the least exposure to Dark Energon. Bumblebee and Arcee have been shot by Megatron's Dark Energon weapons, and Optimus spent a long period in two different battlegrounds being poisoned by it.

Continuity notes
*The entire backstory given by Ratchet is an adaptation of the first half of Transformers: Exodus.

Transformers references
*Optimus was originally known as Orion Pax, much like his namesake in the episode "War Dawn".
*The Key to Vector Sigma first appeared in The Transformers episode "The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 1", and later featured prominently in the first season of Beast Machines.
*Unicron mentally tortures Megatron into obedience. It's been done.
*Optimus calls upon the Matrix to "light our darkest hour".

Real-world references
Trivia
*This episode aired in Singapore on October 4, 2011, again preceding its American showing.
*Jack is clearly taking very good care of that Key Optimus gave him... by idly tapping it against a railing.
*This is the first time we've seen Soundwave "get his hands dirty." With how easily he trounces Airachnid, that's probably a good thing for the Autobots.
*According to the flashbacks, Megatron's optics are blue until he is rejected by the Council and storms out angrily.
*Fowler hugs June. Make of that what you will.
*Once more the Thirteen Original Primes make an appearance, as statue busts in the walls of the High Council this time.
The Autobots team up with a surprising ally to save the Earth.

Synopsis
Optimus Prime is battling a small army of Unicrons made from mountain rocks. Team Prime wish to back him up, but Optimus belays the order, for as Prime he is the one Unicron is after. Team Prime, against his orders decide to back him up, and Arcee, Bumblebee, and Bulkhead arrive to the area by GroundBridge. Optimus is angry that they disobeyed him but Arcee reminds him that since he is Unicron's target he should retreat back to base. Optimus tells them that Unicron can find him anywhere and that it would only be a matter of time before Unicron could find him even if he hid at the base. Arcee then asks him to let him take the lead, which he allows. They fight the Unicrons until a giant Unicron rises from the ground and comes close to killing Optimus before a blast knocks off its head. Megatron reveals himself to have fired the shot.

After Optimus and Megatron do their usual archnemesis banter, Megatron reveals his reason why he's there. He wants to team up with the Autobots to destroy Unicron. The Autobots question this truce but Megatron assures them that he is the only one who can lead them to Unicron and that Optimus, the last Prime, is the only one who can defeat him. Optimus deduces that since Unicron is at the center of the planet they will have to GroundBridge to the Earth's core, much to Ratchet's dismay. This also means that they will need to GroundBridge Megatron to base.

Back on the Nemesis, Airachnid tells Soundwave that it seems that Megatron has abandoned them since he has been gone so long and that they should begin looking at a future without him.

Listening back at base, Jack wonders if they can't just transport Unicron out of the core, but Raf and Ratchet tell him that he is the Earth's core and that messing with him could bring the destruction they're trying to avoid. Optimus agrees and believes that the only way to destroy Unicron is for him to unleash the full power of the Matrix of Leadership onto Unicron's spark. Ratchet explains to Fowler and Jack that the Matrix is the combined power of all the Primes and that it exists within Optimus Prime himself.

Before they can discuss any further another giant Unicron rise from the ground. Optimus calls for a GroundBridge and Megatron goes off to distract Unicron as the Autobots go back to base. They argue about the details of Megatron coming to base and decides that he can come to base. Jack wonder what will happen to Optimus when he unleashes the power of the Matrix, Optimus does not give him a direct answer but tell them that he is willing to do what is needed to be done and that the rest of the Autobots will carry on. Optimus calls in Megatron and the Decepticon finishes off Unicron's rock giant and enters the base. After bantering for a while, they get ready to leave. But before they leave Optimus meets Jack in private, impressed with how much Jack has grown since they first met, and entrusts him the key that controls the GroundBridge operations until he returns.

Team Prime and Megatron leave for the core. After arriving in a cavernous interior with crisscrossing constructs, Arcee wonders how long it will be before Unicron discovers them. Megatron tells her that he already knows as, unbeknownst to them, a giant optic watches overhead.
:—Ratchet finds out that Unicron has awakened

"The last time we met, you were desperately seeking to extinguish my spark."<br>
"That option remains very much in play."
:—Megatron and Optimus talking about the good times they had trying to kill each other.

(GroundBridge opens up next to Bulkhead, Arcee, and Bumblebee)<br>
"Wait. We're opening up a direct path into our base with Megatron standing right there?!"<br>
"And seriously, he's gonna risk his own spark to save us?"<br>
"(Laughter) Hardly my nature!"
:—Arcee and Bulkhead question Megatron's trustworthiness; Megatron finds it funny that they would think such things of him.

"It appears our leader has abandoned us while this world erupts in chaos. I believe we must consider the possibility of a future without Megatron."
:—Airachnid fills the quota for scheming in Starscream's absence.

"So this is where the magic happens. Quaint."
:—Megatron enters the Autobot base.

"You! I never forget a face, even if it is human."
:—Megatron remembers Jack quite easily and can tell him apart from the other humans, unlike some Decepticons.

Notes
Animation and technical errors
*When Raf runs out to confront Megatron in the Autobot base, Arcee puts herself between the humans and the Decepticon leader to keep the latter from possibly harming the former. However, a few screen cuts later when Jack and the rest are walking back, we see Megatron behind Jack, but no Arcee standing between them.
*When using the Ground Bridge to go into Unicron, Optimus is the last one to enter the Ground Bridge, yet is the first Autobot to appear behind Megatron when they get out of the Ground Bridge.
*When Ratchet asks what happened when Unicron was about to crush Optimus, and Megatron shouted that "He happened", it was as though he could hear Ratchet through Arcee's COM link frequency, while normally, it can only be heard by the individual it's being transmitted to.
* In Partners Megatron seemed to believe Starscream was in the hands of the Autobots. At no point in the episode does he appear to wonder why Starscream is not in the Autobot base, or even question Optimus about his fate.

Continuity notes
*Ratchet comments that making a GroundBridge happen in space and a moving train is hard enough, recalling "Darkness Rising, Part 5" and "Convoy".
*Megatron still remembers Jack's face from "Rock Bottom". Though he still has yet to "share the details of their little conversation" with Optimus as he claimed he would.
*Raf hasn't forgotten what Megatron did to him in "One Shall Fall".
*Miko comments on how she is the only one out of the three kids to have not seen Megatron before this episode.
*Optimus being impressed with Jack's growth is similar to what Ratchet said about Jack back in "One Shall Fall".

Transformers references
*The Matrix of Leadership can harm Unicron, echoing The Transformers: The Movie.
*The structure of Unicron's mind is somewhat similar to the tunnels of Galvatron's hideout where he stored the Hate Plague-proof alloy in The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2.
The Autobots try to claim a magnetic weapon called a "polarity gauntlet" before the Decepticons get to it.

Synopsis
Ratchet reports to Arcee and Jack that there's an incoming vehicle, which they initially assume to be a Decepticon, but they relax when it turns out to be June Darby in her car. Jack's less than enthusiastic that his mother's come to check up on him again, but the mood changes when Ratchet detects an unusual magnetic flux.

Soundwave has also picked up the magnetic signature, which Megatron recognizes as a Decepticon weapon. Breakdown volunteers to secure the invention. Megatron is skeptical of Breakdown's abilities following certain recent events, but Breakdown insists.

Miko and Raf arrive back at base with Bulkhead, but their high spirits drop when they realize Jack's mom is there. Arcee and Jack prepare to go conduct a routine diagnostic, but June's questioning about how safe it will be makes Arcee irritated. Ratchet asks Bulkhead to go and investigate the magnetic disturbance, and when Miko announces she's going too, Bulkhead is obliged to tell her to stay at base. Finally, June's questions become too much for Arcee, and she opts to go with Bulkhead.

In a desert area, Breakdown breaks apart some rocks to find the device he's after. No sooner has he picked it up than Airachnid puts in an appearance, clouts him and grabs the weapon. Breakdown recovers quickly and begins fighting Airachnid, until she burrows up from beneath the earth and drags him down, leaving him buried. She picks up the device and is ready to leave, when Breakdown pulls himself free of the ground, and the pair charge at each other.

Arcee and Bulkhead trudge through the rocks, discussing how Jack's mom is a killjoy, and Miko, who has quietly tagged along, asks if they can ban her from the base. Arcee calls for a GroundBridge, but Miko talks her out of it, then requests Bulkhead play some rock music. Arcee tells him to shut it off, as it's not exactly stealthy, and they soon find Breakdown and Airachnid fighting. Leaving Miko a safe distance behind, the two Autobots leap into combat, surprising Airachnid, who has just gotten the upper hand. Bulkhead tosses Arcee into the air, and she shoots at the pair before charging at Breakdown, but Airachnid insists on facing Arcee herself. After a few minutes' fighting, Bulkhead and Arcee overcome their opponents, but Breakdown grabs the weapon and activates it. Warning him that it isn't a toy, Airachnid retreats underground, and Arcee and Bulkhead find themselves being dragged towards each other. The weapon hoists them into the air before slamming them back against some rocks. Satisfied, Breakdown transforms to return to the Nemesis. Miko finds her phone stuck to Bulkhead's chest and Arcee stuck to Bulkhead's back.

Driving along a road, Breakdown is ambushed and entangled in a web.

Ratchet realizes that the weapon Breakdown has is a polarity gauntlet and says their best bet to get Arcee unstuck is to get the gauntlet back. Arcee insists on Miko returning to base, and Miko complains loudly that she sounds just like Jack's mom, which June naturally hears over the comm link.

At an old gas station, Airachnid tries on the gauntlet. Breakdown, securely webbed to the side of the building, suggests they could take it back to Megatron together, but she's not keen on rejoining the Decepticons and thinks the gauntlet will be perfect for keeping everyone else away. Bulkhead trudges up to the gas station to confront Airachnid, who tells him to put his hands up and turn around. He does so, and Arcee promptly opens fire, managing to shoot the gauntlet out of Airachnid's hand. The device activates and drags everything metal towards it, including Breakdown, who is pulled free of the webbing and shuts the gauntlet down. Bulkhead and Arcee begin awkwardly fighting Breakdown and Airachnid. Bulkhead manages to deck Breakdown and turns to face Arachnid, but then Breakdown uses the gauntlet to drop an oil derrick on the 'Bots.

Pinned under an unconscious Bulkhead, Arcee is menaced by Airachnid. Fortunately, Bulkhead comes around in time, and the pair stand up, now separated. Arcee attacks Breakdown, but Bulkhead finds himself no match for Airachnid, who grabs the gauntlet and uses it to draw Arcee to her. Bulkhead blasts Breakdown into another oil derrick, while Arcee and Airachnid fight. Arcee eventually gets possession of the gauntlet and uses it to polarize everyone so that they repel metal. Airachnid uses her webbing to snatch the gauntlet back and transforms to escape, but Bulkhead grabs onto her helicopter mode and throws her into Breakdown. With the gauntlet secured, Arcee and Bulkhead head back to base, where they give it to Ratchet, and June apologizes for being overprotective.

On the Nemesis, Megatron is unhappy when Breakdown returns apparently empty-handed, but Breakdown reveals he has Airachnid stuck to his back. Airachnid tells an amused Megatron that she is happy to return.
Notes
Animation and technical errors
* Cellphones are primarily made of plastic, which is not attracted to magnetic objects. The gauntlet also took Miko's change, which is also not magnetic. Yet the gauntlet didn't attract Miko's belt buckle or earrings. Huh.
* A magnetic field that powerful should have wiped out Miko's phone.
* When Arcee is stuck to Bulkhead, she can still move her arms and legs. If the magnetic force were strong enough to hold her to him, her limbs would also have been stuck.

Continuity errors
* Mere moments after Bulkhead states that he is polarised and can’t touch metal, he grabs Airachnid out of the air and throws her at Breakdown. Is she not made of metal, or did the gauntlet's effects wear off that fast?
** To be fair Airachnid was not polarised.

Continuity notes
*Breakdown was bested by humans and lost his right optic in "Operation: Breakdown".

Transformers references
*After Breakdown volunteers to retrieve the weapon, Megatron retorts, "If you can be bested by mere humans, what chance do you have against the Autobots?"
* At the end of the episode, Arcee gives Ratchet the magnet. If he uses it himself, he would not be the first Ratchet to use a magnet as a weapon and tool.

Real-world references
* The episode title appears to be a belabored nod to the film Fatal Attraction.
* Bulkhead and Arcee appear to perform a Fastball Special in combat. This is not the first time a Bulkhead has used this move.
*The Gauntlet clearly draws inspiration form the Omni-Tool from Mass Effect.

Trivia
*Knock Out apparently didn't have any extra optics lying around to give Breakdown. Sound familiar? Either that, or Megatron won't let him repair Breakdown as punishment for being captured by humans.
*Breakdown's new optic patch was hinted at during 2011 when an artist from the series was requested to sketch Breakdown by a certain Transformers fan: the artist asked what episode had just been screened, thought for a moment, and soon provided an image of Breakdown with an optic patch.
*During this episode's original airing, the commercial bumpers were backwards: "we now return" was played at the start of each break and "we'll be right back" was played at the end.
*As of this episode, we finally have a mention of Jack's father having left him and June.
*Also as of this episode, it seems that Arcee has been the only character that's been in every single episode so far, as Bumblebee does not appear for the first time.
*Apparently Miko didn't learn her lesson as she followed Bulkhead and Arcee. Although this time, she only followed them to get away from Jack's mother, so otherwise, she probably would have stayed put.
*As shown in a previous episode, Miko is terrified of spiders, yet the sight of Airachnid doesn't seem to frighten her at all.
The Dynamic Nuclear Generation System (aka D.N.G.S.) is a prototype energy source. In the event of a meltdown, it would irradiate all of Nevada (or whichever state it was in) and four adjoining states.

Fiction
Prime cartoon
William Fowler was transporting the Dynamic Nuclear Generation System to the West Coast when MECH shot down his jet. Believing the perpetrators to be Decepticons, Fowler requested Team Prime's aid and loaded the device into Optimus Prime's trailer. They were soon engaged by a MECH squad led by Silas. During the chase, the Autobots drove into a train tunnel, and they tranferred the D.N.G.S. into a carriage guarded by a human soldier. But when Vehicons blew up Optimus's trailer and there was no meltdown, Silas got wise to the strategy and pursued the train instead. When Prime ran to defend the carriage, Silas broke off pursuit, attempting to deprive his enemy of his prize by blowing up the train track, which would initiate a meltdown. Optimus stopped the train in time, though, and the area was safe. Convoy (episode)
Notes
