'''Grown to titanic proportions, Galvatron tows Cybertron behind him, while Ironhide faces off with Scorponok.'''

==Synopsis==
As [[Alpha Quintesson|Alpha Q]] observes in panic, [[Megatron (Armada)|Galvatron]] is growing huge, and trying to become [[Unicron]]. The titan rises to the planet's surface as his enthralled and nervous troops watch.

The [[Autobot]]s watch nervously from the control room. [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]] takes a team to help [[Landmine (Energon)|Landmine]] and [[Rodimus (Energon)|Rodimus]], who are still on the surface, while [[Bulkhead (Energon)|Bulkhead]] stays behind with [[Brian Jones (Energon)|Dr. Jones]].

[[Kicker Jones|Kicker]], [[Ironhide (Energon)|Ironhide]] and a squad of [[Omnicon]]s are headed for the [[Super Energon Temple|Super Energon chamber]], intending to cut off the source of Galvatron's power, but [[Scorponok (Energon)|Scorponok]] gets in their way. Ironhide transforms and faces off with him, and the two exchange words over Scorponok's continued (and, to Ironhide, inexplicable) loyalty to Galvatron. As the two grapple, Ironhide counters that he thought Scorponok was smart enough to think for himself. The [[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcons]] close in on Kicker and [[Arcee (Energon)|Arcee]].

[[Image:Energon-Battlestorm-Laser.jpg‎|230px|thumb|left|Look mom, no [[Sparkplug (Armada)|Mini-Con]]!]]

On the surface, the [[Decepticon]]s harry the retreating Landmine and Rodimus, until [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus]] arrives via space bridge with a crew of Autobots. He sends [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] with Omnicons to [[Primus]], and orders [[Omega Supreme (Energon)|Omega Supreme]] to [[Powerlinx|powerlink]]. Omega doesn't think that's such a good idea, since Primus is still in sleep mode—

—remember the Unicron orb? Still there—

—but Prime says he'll rely on the power of Unicron within him. Omega agrees, and they combine. The tiny titan challenges the enormous Galvatron, who's not even irritated and bashes the pair away, knocking over an energon tower in the process, then steps on them. Starscream prevents Hot Shot from interfering in the fight, but Prime is still standing, pushing Galvatron's foot off of him and knocking him over. Galvatron unleashes a power burst and grows further; everyone flees.

Kicker and Arcee flee from the Terrorcons, leaving them behind by ramping over a crevasse. Scorponok tells his "beloved pets" to stand aside; Ironhide promises to hold off Scorponok, and the two face off again. Kicker and Arcee approach the Super Energon chamber.

Rodimus and Optimus meet up, some distance from the enormous Galvatron. Rodimus notes that he's become Unicron; Optimus wants to let him escape into space.

Unicron orb? Still there.

Galvatron launches from the planet's surface, shaking the entire planet, still connected to a beam of Super Energon.

Kicker's team arrives at the huge column of Super Energon; Kicker moves in to start hacking through it with the [[Energon Saber]] while the Omnicons hold off a horde of Terrorcon beetles.

Galvatron flies into space, towing Cybertron with him—

Unicron orb? Still there!

—while Dr. Jones tries to contact Kicker, telling him to cut the energon strands... which Kicker and the Omnicons are already doing. Dr. Jones suspects that Galvatron is towing the planet toward Alpha Q. The Autobots move to attack. Jetfire arrives in the control room with his control room.

[[Image:Energon-Ironhound-Vs-Scorponok.jpg|230px|thumb|left|Rumble was ''blue'', slaggit!]]

Ironhide tells Scorponok that he's got [[Team Ironhide]] backing him up, Scorponok isn't impressed. They taunt one another; Ironhide says that Galvatron doesn't care a lick for his troops. Scoronok counters that he shouldn't. Ironhide gives up and attacks... but continues to try and get through to Scorponok that Galvatron is becoming Unicron, and that the old Galvatron won't exist anymore once that happens. Ironhide continues to toss insults and firepower with equal prowess, blasting him to the floor. Suddenly, the Terrorcons come crawling up to their wounded master; Ironhide is so affected by the sight that he refuses to fight anymore, telling Scorponok that this is what ''true'' loyalty means — that unlike Galvatron, Scorponok respects his men in return. Scorponok seems to have a moment of understanding... and stalks away.

Kicker's team hacks through more and more of the Super Energon lines... and are finally finished. The Super Energon's color changes back to its original color, and the tether to the planet fades away.

In space, the Decepticons fall back from a battle with the Autobots as Galvatron prepares to grow even more. Galvatron transforms. The Decepticons follow. The Autobots follow. Alpha Q frets. Misha calculates that Galvatron... ''isn't'' headed for Alpha Q.

Unicron orb? Still there.

Where could Galvatron be headed?!?

Also, remember the Unicron orb? That thing? Remember it? It's still there!
==Notes==
===Lost in translation===
* As Galvatron grows, the animation shows Demolishor doing delighted back flips, and Mirage dropping to his knees and clutching his hands in affection. The dub then has them saying things like "Oh no!" and "I don't like this!" Needless to say, it's a dub flub.
* The general air of mirth over Galvatron's transformation is likewise missing as they zig-zag their way into battle a moment later.
* Continuing its ''absolute refusal to acknowledge anyone's death'', the dub states that Galvatron is heading towards Alpha Q. He's actually headed toward Alpha Q's ''planets''.
* Likewise, Ironhide and Scorponok speak of [[Team Ironhide]] in the present, as if they hadn't died.
* And yet again—the dub omits Ironhide reminding Scorponok of Six Shot's death at Galvatron's <s>hands</s> feet, which has the bonus effect of making the flashback to the scene rather random.
* The dub omits a somewhat amusing line from Starscream, in which he comments on how many times he's had to say some variant of "You won't stop Galvatron!"
* Kicker's instructions to the Omnicons (quoted above) are a lot less wishy-washy in ''Super Link'', amounting to "Well, guess we gotta cut it." "Cut it?" "Yep."
* Ironhide and Scorponok's running dialogue has a more coherent flow to it in ''Super Link'', though the content is largely the same. Scorponok's pivotal final line, "I think I understand now", is a dub addition.

===Pain count===
* "Uh?": 6
* Stock footage: 3
* It's time to: 1
* Alright, men: 2
* Let's do it: 1

''Super Link:''

* You're fighting me: 2

===Continuity errors===
* Why are the Omnicons ''running'' alongside Ironhide and Arcee? Don't they remember that they can transform into cars and planes?
* Why do Rodimus, Prowl and Landmine ''run'' away from the growing Galvatron? Don't they remember that they can transform into cars and snow plows?

===Trivia===
* Galvatron tows Cybertron via a glowing strand that's attached to his butt. Disturbingly, this is [[Spider's Game|not the first time this sort of thing has happened]] in Transformers.
* WHERE COULD GALVATRON POSSIBLY BE GOING?!?
* Unicron orb? Still there.
'''Kicker and the Omnicons struggle to shut off the Decepticons' energon gas grid and get Optimus's team onto Cybertron.'''

==Synopsis==
[[Arcee (Energon)|Arcee]] and [[Kicker Jones|Kicker]] make their landing on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], with the [[Omnicon]]s behind them. They try to figure out where they've landed.

From orbit, [[Ironhide (Energon)|Ironhide]] waits and worries over Kicker. [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] checks in with him, but there's nothing to report. From elsewhere, [[Alpha Quintesson|Alpha Q]] observes that Kicker is the only hope for the [[Autobot]]s and the planet.

Out on the frontier, two Autobot troops observe that [[Brian Jones|Dr. Jones]]'s ship has been shot down, and head to "[[Outpost SW3]]" to report this news. They use a distraction to sneak past a cloud of orbiting [[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcon]]s and head underground; they skip past their dozing comrade to send out a report.

At the former Autobot command center, [[Six Shot]] detects an Autobot signal from the southern hemisphere. [[Megatron (Armada)|Galvatron]] sends the two combiners to scope out the situation.

[[Image:Energon-Generics-With-Binoculars.jpg|230px|thumb|left|I spy with my little optical receptor, something beginning with E.]]

Kicker and the Omnicons are closing in on the pipeline that supplies the [[energon tower]]s. At the frontier outpost, Dozey goes to find his captain, but comes under Terrorcon attack the second he sets foot outside. Six Shot detects the Autobots and unleashes a blast from the energon towers at their base. Kicker is angry that the [[Decepticon]]s are running rampant over the planet.

Below ground, [[Sally Jones|Sally]] watches Terrorcons stalk past their hiding place. [[Miranda Jones|Mrs. Jones]] is busy baking cookies to keep herself from worrying. Meanwhile, [[Rad White|Rad]] and Dr. Jones have found the elevator shaft that leads to [[Primus]]... but it's in ruins. As they consider looking for another route, a [[Cruellock]] drone finds them. They hide in the shaft, but when the Terrorcon breaks through, they have no choice but to jump.

[[Bruticus Maximus (Energon)|Bruticus Maximus]] and [[Constructicon Maximus]] arrive in the southern hemisphere, and start using the ''[[Miranda II]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s hull for target practice. Nearby, the Autobot troops send a few fliers to try and go for help, but the combiners being shooting them. The Autobots attack to try and cover their comrades.

[[Image:Energon-Heres-Cruellock.jpg|230px|thumb|right|Heeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Cruelly!]]

The Omnicons arrive at a point where they can stop the gas flow; [[Strongarm (Energon)|Strongarm]] proposes using a hardening gel to jam up the pipe. The group observes the fleeing Autobot fliers, and smoke from the distant battle. Kicker and Arcee go to help out.

The Autobots are having a tough time against the combiners, falling back repeatedly. Arcee and Kicker arrive and counter-attack.

The Omnicons stop up the pipe, then break it open to vent the gas. They prepare to signal Optimus.

Kicker and Arcee have eluded the combiners. They observe that the Autobots here appear to have all fled safely, and head back to the Omnicons.

Four [[Skyblast (Energon)|Skyblast]]s fire up into the sky, the signal that Optimus has been waiting for. Assigning [[Rodimus (Energon)|Rodimus]] and some others to stay behind, Optimus prepares to go to the surface. Six Shot detects a signal as the Autobots approach. He wants to attack, but Galvatron orders him not to. Then he detects the blocked pipeline, which is none too pleasing to Galvatron.

[[Image:Energon-Wideload-Ramp.jpg|230px|thumb|left|Weeeee!]]

The Omnicons report to Kicker that the gel is still holding, but gas is still flowing to the towers. Before they can take action, the combiners appear on the horizon. Kicker takes Skyblast to create a larger opening.

The Autobots reach the spot where the signal was seen, but there's no opening in the gas grid. They wait for Kicker's signal.

Kicker has Skyblast fire three [[energon star]]s at a tower. After a moment, it erupts into fire, opening a hole. Optimus and the others fly through. The Omnicons provide covering fire, but soon come under attack from the combiners and Galvatron's other troops. Optimus's troops soon join the battle, as does Galvatron himself.

Six Shot observes that this is the perfect opportunity to finish all the combatants off and take control. He unleashes the [[energon gas]] on the surface.

[[Image:Energon-Omnicon-Support.jpg|230px|thumb|right|You can help by firing in their air a lot.]]

Kicker observes the gas approaching, and concludes that they must run.

Optimus observes the gas approaching, and concludes that they must run.

Ironhide and Hot Shot observe the gas approaching, and conclude that they must run.

Galvatron observes the gas approaching, and concludes that Six Shot has defied his orders again.

Prime's team meets up the Autobot troops from earlier, who leads them underground to safety from the gas.

Elsewhere, [[Wing Saber (Energon)|Wing Saber]]'s team is in a fight with [[Scorponok (Energon)|Scorponok]]. The two surviving fliers arrive with a message, to shut off the pipeline. Alpha Q frets that the gas is now keeping the Autobots trapped under the planet, but says that Prime will find a way.
==Notes==
===Lost in translation===
* The point of the temporary energon fields deployed by the Omnicons isn't to keep the gas away from them, as stated in the dub, but to cushion their landing. The plot has already established that the Omnicons are unaffected by the gas (that being the whole reason they're the ones carrying out the mission), and regardless, the animation clearly shows that they've already passed through the gas layer by that point.
* An added dub line has Arcee saying that they're close to the energon tower (singular, as in one tower) that's releasing the gas. A moment later, the animation (and even Alpha Q's dialog) shows that the gas is coming from many towers.
* The two generics are supposed to be identifying the ship as that of commander Optimus Prime, not "the ship that Dr. Jones was on"—since, y'know, ''Dr. Jones was never on it.''
* The dub gives a deep, grutteral voice to the dozing generic in the command center—sparing viewers the agony of the absurdly high-pitched voice that this character has in ''Super Link''.
* Six Shot weirdly says the transmission is coming from ''above'' the southern hemisphere, like it's in orbit or something. It's a dub flub.
* A second later, he says the energon gas will take care of any Autobots on the surface, in clear defiance of the animation, which shows the gas as cloud in the upper atmosphere. He's ''supposed'' to be saying that the Autobots couldn't have broken ''through'' the gas grid.
* Skyblast's flyover report is supposed to say that what Kicker sees are just ruins, not "exhaust".
* For some reason, the Omnicons' original plan to freeze the gas is changed to stopping the flow with a hardening gel. (the dub version, truth be told, makes more sense.)
* A missing line or bad translation has Skyblast saying "If that's the case, then the energon gas will disperse" in reply to... nothing.
* After stopping the pipe up, Skyblast is supposed to note that there's still some gas in the pipe, explaining why Strongarm bashes it open a second later. The explanation is missing in the dub.
* The dub omits the Omnicons explanation that gas from the other towers flowed in and filled the gap from the tower they shut down.
* In ''Super Link'', Six Shot doesn't really have any interest in "taking control", just avenging his brother.
* The message to Wing Saber was originally about the crash landing of the ''Miranda II''. The dub changes it an order to destroy the energon grid, which causes Wing Saber to randomly start panicking.

===Animation and technical errors===
* The energon gas clouds are completely unaffected by the energon tower's detonation, still flowing past the resultant opening in the clouds. Going by the animation, the hole should be filled and covered up immediately, but it magically stays in place long enough for Prime's team to fly through it.

===Trivia===
* After three episodes, the animation ''finally'' gets around to showing the energon towers actually emitting the energon gas.
* The men go and look for God, while the women stay home and bake food. Yeah.
After her old car had to be put down, Charlene depended on her friend Wendell's truck for transportation. One day after work, she convinced him to take a detour into the wilderness to find some old goldmine trails. Instead, she found an old wrecked van, turned on its side, with the radio still playing.

Wendell knew [[Bob (Marvel)|people who could get it fixed]], but as she was pulling out of the shop, [[Jake Dalrymple|some crazy guy in a purple Lamborghini]] tried to run them off the road. After the van pulled off otherworldly, impossible stunts to evade the other car, it introduced itself to her as the alien Transformer robot [[Skids (G1)|Skids]].
However, Skids' wartorn past caught up to him when [[Donny Finkleberg]] hunted him down, with the Decepticon [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]] in pursuit. It soon became apparent to Skids that he could run from reality no longer and must give up his daydreams, stop being her car, and return to the Autobots. Charlene echoed the sentiment regarding her own life, and decided she should probably stop ignoring Wendell, even if he was pretty dull. {{storylink|Showdown!}}

[[Image:Electrogoldplasticsyndrome.jpg|right|450px|thumb|The horror! The horror!]]
'''Gold Plastic Syndrome''' (commonly shorthanded to '''GPS''') is fandom terminology used to describe the phenomenon of a toy's [[plastic]] decomposing and becoming brittle to the point of shattering or crumbling under minimal-stress conditions. In the most extreme cases, toys have been reported to spontaneously crumble to small bits without any applied force at all, even if they're fresh out of their [[Mint in sealed box|unopened package]].

This breakage is different from the relatively more common stress-fracture type of plastic breakage that can occur in some [[Toy|Transformers toys]]. The condition takes its name from the gold plastics of late Generation 1 through to ''Beast Wars'', that have proved the most prone to this sort of breakage. However, despite the name, Gold Plastic Syndrome has been known to affect other types of plastic—most of them noted for a pretty metallic swirl in the plastic.

==Notability==
GPS is widespread among toys made in the tail-end of [[The Transformers (toyline)|Generation 1]], typically the second year of [[Pretender|Pretenders]] and even some European-market exclusives, ''[[Generation 2 (toyline)|Generation 2]]'' and the ''[[Beast Wars (toyline)|Beast Wars]]'' series, but examples have surfaced from lines as recent as [[Universe (2003 toyline)|''Universe'' (2003)]]. Transformers toys are not the only ones to suffer from this; there have been reports of ''[[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]]'' and ''[[Visionaries]]'' toys' gold plastics also crumbling seemingly of their own accord.

The toys most likely to suffer from Gold Plastic Syndrome are those with gold or bronze plastics with a metallic swirl in the plastic. There are other known cases with different colours of plastic—though usually there is a tell-tale swirl.

==Cause of GPS==
Because this is not exactly an area of scientific notability there aren't any causal studies into Gold Plastic Syndrome that we know about. Basically, it is thought that certain plastics weren't mixed as well as others, possibly because of the metallic pigment or colouring, so they break down more quickly.

It's not much of a theory, really. Here's a more detailed attempt:

{{bigquote|The problem likely arises, as with many composites, when the bonding between the polymer and the dye/particles breaks down. This could occur do to a natural chemical/phase change of the plastic, due to oxidation, for example, or by another mechanism, say the forces incurred by the toy being played with, or more likely, due to some combination thereof. In any case, when the bonds between the particles and the polymers break down, you would get small voids in the plastic structure. If this occurs frequently enough, the structure would become effectively porous (that is, it would be filled with lots of tiny voids/cracks where the polymers and particles have come apart). With even a slight amount of force, some of these cracks/voids could expand, even slightly, to the point where they intersect another void and join, making an even bigger crack. Once a critical crack length is reached, the sample fractures.

So effectively, the plastic becomes more brittle, and this would also explain it "crumbling" as well as cracking.}}
:-Aernaroth suggests a cause for GPS [http://www.allspark.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=57191&view=findpost&p=1174876 on the Allspark]

So what it amounts to is: "The plastic crumbles a'cause it ain't very good."

Hasbro have attributed it to "the amount of gold fleck included in the plastic", and have apparently reduced the amount in similar plastics of more recent vintage to prevent further occurrences.<ref name="hasbrogps">[http://www.transformerland.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3481 Hasbro Transformersland.com Q&A, August 2009:] "When we used gold metallic plastic in the past we discovered, along with many of you, that it becomes brittle over time. As we became aware of this situation, we took the necessary steps to reduce the amount of gold fleck included in the plastic to eliminate this issue. Ultimately, this should no longer be an issue due to these corrective steps that we have taken."</ref> Later Hasbro said that they believe they've "alleviated the issues associated with the 'gold' plastic issue" through "trial and error." <ref>http://www.toyark.com/news/transformers-toy-news-2/hasbro-transformers-june-2010-qna-2867/</ref>

All in all, the actual causes of Gold Plastic Syndrome aren't a very big deal to Transformers fans—it's really pretty academic. Of more concern is the RESULTS (i.e., crumbling like a soggy Tim Tam in a cup of coffee), and what to look out for. There's no cure here, no fix. If a toy has GPS, it '''will''' die.

==The Symptoms==
Gold Plastic Syndrome usually has a few clear signs. Knowing how to tell the difference between Gold Plastic Syndrome and normal plastic breakage is very important for a Transformers fan who is collecting vintage toys. It's the difference between giving up on that toy completely (since if it has GPS so will any other sample of the toy) and buying a new copy.
[[Image:GPSSkyquakescopeclose.jpg|300px|thumb|Nooo!]]
*GPS usually takes place in metallic-coloured plastics, most notably gold plastic and bronze plastic.
*GPS breaks are NOT accompanied by stress fractures. There is usually NOT any visible wear before the breakage. This is really important. Plastic breaks. This is a reality of toy collecting, plastic gets old and it breaks. Gold plastic syndrome is breakage without warning.
*GPS breaks often leave a powdery residue and shards of plastic (though not always), the result of the plastic actually physically crumbling. Take a look at the picture of Skyquake's scope—okay, the bits of his scope—to the right. You can actually see some of the left-over shards of plastic. Keep in mind this picture was taken years after the break actually occurred—these are new shards of plastic which came off these pieces of scope during the process of moving the parts around for photography. Plastic should '''not''' be that brittle or delicate.
*GPS breakages don't need to involve any excess stress or force on a toy—simply handling a toy can cause the breakage. Looking at it funny, sometimes does it. Spitting on it, maybe. Opening its box. ''Anything.'' If your toy breaks despite careful handling it's more likely to be GPS.
[[Image:SkyquakeGPSback.jpg|thumb|300px|Gleargh]]
*GPS breaks often have rough, uneven edges with no stress lines around them. This is important—usually when plastic snaps it snaps cleanly (as is common with clear plastic), or it bends first (leaving a torn-off piece, or clear stresses around the break). If a break is uneven, with different colours and textures in it, yet there are no stress fractures around the wound, and especially if it leaves a powdery residue as well, it's almost certainly a GPS break. Take a look at the photo of Skyquake to the right for a good example of the ragged break. Okay...not good. What's the other word that's LIKE "good", but not actually good? Oh yeah. Horrifying. A HORRIFYING example.
*GPS plastics will sometimes feel brittle to the touch, sometimes making cracking noises as they're handled.

A really easy test to tell if you have GPS breakage is this—if a piece breaks off, try snapping it again. If it's normal plastic breakage, the broken piece should bend or bow instead of just snapping like dry wood; there should be some give in the plastic, even if it's a brittle, clear plastic—so you should be able to glue it back into place, or at least get a replacement part. On the other hand, if the broken piece snaps like your grandmother's ankles in a rugby match, then you've almost definitely got Gold Plastic Syndrome.

==GPS misconceptions==
'''ALL GOLD PLASTIC WILL DIE!'''
:Not true. It's gold plastic from certain eras that will die. It's plastic from about 1989 (second year Pretenders are notorious for it) and through to about the end of ''Beast Wars''. As far as we know later toys do not suffer from GPS, due to a reduction in the amount of metallic flakes in similar, but more recent toys<ref name="hasbrogps" />. ''As far as we know.'' But just you wait...oh yes, just you wait. Toys with flexible nylon-based gold plastics, such as [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Superbase Optimus Prime's]] elbows, are not susceptible to GPS.

:Even on toys well known for GPS, some of their gold plastic is less prone to break. Gold plastic which is nice and thick is much less likely to snap than gold plastic which is thin. Gold plastic which is under constant stress—like that at a joint—is also more likely to break. That said, some really nice solid parts can shatter like eggshells if it's real GPS we're talkin' about.

'''MY TOY BROKE, IT MUST BE GOLD PLASTIC SYNDROME'''
:There are plenty of ways for plastic to break that aren't related to Gold Plastic Syndrome. Repeated stress on a plastic, dropping a toy, a toy with metal parts that damage the plastic parts, thin plastic, or simply the use of translucent plastic, which is more brittle. Just because a toy breaks doesn't mean it's Gold Plastic Syndrome. Look for the symptoms (listed above) and ask around before assuming that every single copy of this toy is destined to die a painful and horrible death.

'''ONLY GOLD PLASTIC GETS GOLD PLASTIC SYNDROME'''
:Not quite true. Observations suggest that it should probably called "Metallic Plastic Syndrome". It's those metallic plastics, most commonly the gold and bronze plastics used for almost ten years by Hasbro and Takara, from around 1989 to 1998. However, in theory, any colour of plastic could be susceptible, given time. Keep an eye on your Fire Convoy, kids; that pretty metallic swirl in his plastic isn't promising.

'''MY TOY IS DOOMED!'''
:Okay...not exactly a misconception. Your toy is probably doomed...but there is a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

:You see, the thickness of the plastic seems to affect GPS. Also, the amount of stress on it affects it. While some toys are known for breaking just by having their packages opened—guys like Randy, Roadblock and ''Generation 2'' Slingshot—others, like Skyquake and Pyro, can remain very strongly intact because the parts that are made of GPS plastics are large and thick and otherwise robust. GPS is an inconsistent process—eventually your toy '''will''' crumble, but there's no telling how long it will take. With delicate handling (read: almost none) you can maintain a GPS-afflicted toy in your collection for quite some time.

:Also remember that the evidence for Gold Plastic Syndrome is completely observational. There seems to be some evidence that different plastic batches were less affected, that some releases of the toys were less affected. You might luck out and get an Electro that never crumbles to dust, or you might be really unlucky and get multiple Electros, all of which break horribly. This page is a caution more than anything else. Know what you're getting into when you buy a toy known to be afflicted by GPS.

==Toys commonly associated with Gold Plastic Syndrome==
====Generation 1====
* [[Scorponok (G1)|BlackZarak]]
:Rather depressingly, BlackZarak's feet and shield tend to shatter. Since both parts have to be under stress to function as intended, this particularly expensive toy is almost never intact. The Black Roritchi repaint of Fasttrack included with him is almost ''entirely'' made of gold plastic. Good luck...
* [[Bristleback]]
:Bristleback on his own isn't in much danger, as he has a fairly minimal amount of moving parts. However, when combining with the other Monster Pretenders, sliding the Monstructor fist in place will usually be enough to create a large crack through his legs, sometimes even splitting them entirely.
* [[Roadblock (G1)|Roadblock]]
:The innermost robot has three peg holes, two in the fists and one on his back, that are particularly susceptible to cracking and shattering, leaving many a Roadblock hand-less.
* [[Skyhammer (G1)|Skyhammer]]
:One of the most notorious toys. The entire bottom of his large vehicle shell is made of gold plastic and it is very prone to breakage. Not to mention how much gold plastic is on his inner shell and his robot mode.
* [[Slog]]
:Slog is notable because his gimmick requires another toy (Birdbrain) to be inserted up inside his gold sections. His thin gold sides will crumble like a good fruit cake (just not as moist) if Birdbrain jostles around too much.
* [[Killbison]]
{{-}}
[[Image:GPSSkyquakescope.jpg|thumb|Well, crap.]]

====Generation 1-2 Transitional Phase====
* [[Skyquake (G1)|Skyquake]]
:Skyquake is another toy notable for having a gimmick which makes the whole thing worse. Skyquake actually has two colours of metallic plastic on him: One is a dark bronze, the other a light bronze. It is the light bronze plastic that is most likely to break. Unfortunately, the light bronze plastic also forms Skyquake's scope. You're supposed to put a Predator jet's scope slide into that part of him. But the union is not pleasant for the one on the receiving end. Take a look at the picture to the right. These are the parts left of Skyquake's scope after another Predator tried to unite with him. Actually...that's not even all the parts, that's just all that could be found.

:This is a gimmick which should never be used by modern collectors. Never, ever, ever, ever. Watch out for the movable panel on the back of his head, too, as it's the same light bronze plastic.

* [[Pyro]]
:Although he can be something of a trouper in comparison to other victims on this page, Pyro's waist can break very easily if not handled with care.
{{-}}
====Generation 2====
* [[Electro]]
[[Image:Electrobrokenknee.jpg|thumb|Oh, God, my knee! MY KNEEEEEEE!!]]

:There's a reason that Electro sits up at the top of this page. Poor guy just can't catch a break.

:Wait...actually, no. That's the entire problem. The poor guy totally ''can'' catch a break. All the time. Because he is designed to die.

* [[Slingshot (G1)|Slingshot]]
:Slingshot is infamous for being made almost entirely of gold plastic, and he has been reported to come apart straight out of the package.<ref>http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/2b8b3dec846e5479?hl=en</ref> Worse, he's known for being another toy whose gimmick will destroy him. Slingshot's head is a post which is designed to plug into [[Silverbolt_(G1)|Silverbolt]] (or any other Scramble City leader), so that Slingshot can form an arm or a leg. Doing this will destroy your Slingshot.
{{-}}

====Beast Wars====
* [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]]
[[Image:Goldplasticgrimlock.jpg|thumb|He's hopping mad! ... Okay, fine. YOU do better.]]
:Take a look at the picture to the right. Grimlock's gold plastic can break pretty damned hard. The fact that he uses a gold plastic ball joint for his hips is not really a good thing. Common breakages include the insides of his legs (where his chest pegs into them in beast mode) and his mutant face (which is very thin).
* [[Randy (BWN)|Randy]]
:Poor Randy. This is one of the legendary Gold Plastic Syndrome toys. Imagine, if you will, a toy with an entirely spring-loaded transformation made entirely out of gold plastic. Ouch, right? Well, don't worry. You'll never have to see what a mess that could be, because this toy will shatter into a million pieces the moment you open it. Ouch.
{{-}}
[[Image:Brownplasticsyndrome.jpg|thumb|The one picture for the wiki you never want to be able to make.]]
* [[Megatron (BW)|''Transmetal'' Megatron]]
:He'll snap at the waist, the shoulders, the ... well, anything that's made of that brown plastic. This is technically Brown Plastic Syndrome, but regardless of what you call it this toy will end in sadness. The Japanese ''Metals'' version uses black instead of the brown, so it seems to be immune. The fragility of the waist may be due to GPS, a [[design flaw]], or a combination of both.
* [[Silverbolt (G1)|Silverbolt]]
:Despite having a dangerously large amount of bronze plastic, Magnaboss Silverbolt IS fairly stable. The main breakage point is where his tail connects to his body. As well, [[Skywarp (BWII)|Skywarp]], his Japanese counterpart, is just as likely to suffer from this. That said, just...be careful, okay? Be careful.
* [[Soundwave (BW)|Soundwave]]
:His entire fraggin' body is composed of gold plastic, so it's a crap shoot. The places on his body where the sides hinge open as part of his transformation are the first to go, however.
* [[Torca]]
:His legs, tail hinge and sides are prone to Gold Plastic Syndrome.
{{-}}

====Universe (2003)/Cybertron====
*[[Megabolt]]
:Having limbs cast primarily in gold plastic is not a good thing. Fracture points include his forearms, the holes that lock his arms in place in crawling head mode, lower legs near the knees, and his head.

*[[Micromaster]] [[Superion (Universe)|Superion]] (initially a [[KB Toys]] [[exclusive]] ''[[Universe (2003 toyline)|Universe]]'' release in the USA, later also available at CVS Pharmacy stores; mass-retail ''[[Cybertron (toyline)|Cybertron]]'' release in Europe), released in 2006, suffers from this as of 2010, particularly the peg that connects [[Ro-Tor (Universe)|Ro-Tor]] to Superion's torso piece.<ref name="tfwsuper">[http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-toy-discussion/300674-warning-universe-micromaster-superion-suffers-gold-plastic-syndrome.html TFW2005 thread about Micromaster Superion suffering from Gold Plastic Syndrome, with multiple reports,</ref>
{{-}}

====Star Wars: Transformers====
* [[Millennium Falcon]] / [[Han Solo]] & [[Chewbacca]]
:Particularly, the Chewbacca half suffers from GPS. His legs can lock up and ultimately snap off. His upper arms are also said to fall victim as well. <ref>http://www.seibertron.com/toys/gallery.php?id=2481&size=0&start=101</ref>
{{-}}

====Other notable instances====
* [[Serpentor]]
:While not a Transformer, he is also known to suffer from this problem—especially through his hips, given the leg construction found on G.I. Joe toys of the era.

==Toys often mistaken for having GPS==

A number of toys have gold parts that easily break not due to the plastic used, but due to structural problems with the part designs themselves.

* [[Predator]] [[missile]] launchers
:The Predator launcher pegs are notorious for breaking off, but this is due to their size. Those pegs are ''tiny''; many other weapons with a similar peg have the same problem. However, the Predator launchers are worse off, as they are also used by larger figures like Skyquake. Also, the "false" trigger is known to break off, as it doesn't have a hinge, relying on the plastic to bend. (The actual trigger is a small, black, internal piece.) If the Predator launchers actually had GPS, the strength of the spring would cause them literally to explode.

* [[Thunder Clash]]
:Thunder Clash's gold feet are often broken due to the design of the ratcheting transformation joint. The ratchets are so stiff that you're more likely to pry his feet apart before the ratchets budge. Like the Predator launchers, if this ''was'' due to GPS, Thunder Clash's launcher barrels would literally explode due to the very strong springs.

* ''[[Movie (toyline)|Movie]]'' [[Legends Class]] [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponok]]
:Legends Scorponok's tail stinger, originally soft and bendy, tends to harden after a while, and then becomes prone to breaking. While the stinger ''is'' made of a gold plastic type, the cause for this problem appears to be an inferior plasticizer rather than traditional Gold Plastic Syndrome.

==Etymology==
The earliest use of the term that can be found in the [[alt.toys.transformers]] archives dates to September 2002 in a post by user Sky Shadow,<ref>http://groups.google.co.uk/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/2b3d532961b2c2dc</ref> though it is unclear from his usage of the term whether or not it was already in use. A post by [[Dave Edwards|Dave "Zobovor" Edwards]], meanwhile, made in June of the previous year,<ref>http://groups.google.co.uk/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/6ed7e0f3586f37e4</ref> is the earliest identifiable acknowledgment of the widespread nature of the phenomenon within the Transformers fan community.

==Notability==

==Cause of GPS==

So effectively, the plastic becomes more brittle, and this would also explain it "crumbling" as well as cracking.}}

==The Symptoms==

==GPS misconceptions==

====Generation 1====
* [[Scorponok (G1)|BlackZarak]]
* [[Bristleback]]
:Bristleback on his own isn't in much danger, as he has a fairly minimal amount of moving parts. However, when combining with the other Monster Pretenders, sliding the Monstructor fist in place will usually be enough to create a large crack through his legs, sometimes even splitting them entirely.
* [[Roadblock (G1)|Roadblock]]
:The innermost robot has three peg holes, two in the fists and one on his back, that are particularly susceptible to cracking and shattering, leaving many a Roadblock hand-less.
* [[Skyhammer (G1)|Skyhammer]]
:One of the most notorious toys. The entire bottom of his large vehicle shell is made of gold plastic and it is very prone to breakage. Not to mention how much gold plastic is on his inner shell and his robot mode.
* [[Slog]]
:Slog is notable because his gimmick requires another toy (Birdbrain) to be inserted up inside his gold sections. His thin gold sides will crumble like a good fruit cake (just not as moist) if Birdbrain jostles around too much.
* [[Killbison]]
{{-}}
[[Image:GPSSkyquakescope.jpg|thumb|Well, crap.]]

====Generation 1-2 Transitional Phase====
* [[Skyquake (G1)|Skyquake]]

* [[Pyro]]
:Although he can be something of a trouper in comparison to other victims on this page, Pyro's waist can break very easily if not handled with care.
{{-}}
====Generation 2====
* [[Electro]]

* [[Slingshot (G1)|Slingshot]]
{{-}}

====Beast Wars====
* [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]]
* [[Randy (BWN)|Randy]]
Ouch.
{{-}}
[[Image:Brownplasticsyndrome.jpg|thumb|The one picture for the wiki you never want to be able to make.]]
* [[Megatron (BW)|''Transmetal'' Megatron]]
* [[Silverbolt (G1)|Silverbolt]]
Be careful.
* [[Soundwave (BW)|Soundwave]]
:His entire fraggin' body is composed of gold plastic, so it's a crap shoot. The places on his body where the sides hinge open as part of his transformation are the first to go, however.
* [[Torca]]
:His legs, tail hinge and sides are prone to Gold Plastic Syndrome.
{{-}}

====Universe (2003)/Cybertron====

{{-}}

====Star Wars: Transformers====
{{-}}

====Other notable instances====
* [[Serpentor]]

* [[Predator]] [[missile]] launchers

* [[Thunder Clash]]

* ''[[Movie (toyline)|Movie]]'' [[Legends Class]] [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponok]]

==Etymology==

:''Scorponok is a [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] from the [[Beast Wars (franchise)|Beast Wars]] portion of the [[Generation 1 continuity family]].''

[[Image:BWScorponokSticker.jpg|right|300px|thumb|Transforms into a scorpion. Surprise?]]
'''Scorponok'''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s personality seems to have two main features: He's dumb, and he's loyal to [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] (surprisingly so, considering Megatron's [[Terrorsaur (BW)|other]] [[Tarantulas (BW)|crew]] [[Blackarachnia (BW)|members]]), and of those two features, only the loyalty seems to be consistent. He tries to serve Megatron to the best of his abilities, but when [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspinator]] is able to outwit you, there's only so much you have to offer.

Scorponok begins as Megatron's [[second-in-command]] on the ''[[Darksyde]]'', though he is insecure about the title and constantly tries to assert himself among the other Predacons who, aware of his shortcomings, generally dismiss or ignore him.

Scorponok's only other real contribution to Megatron's cause is in developing cyber-viruses that he delivers with his [[Cyberbee|cyberbee drone]]. (This is impressive, actually, given his otherwise limited mentality.) However, these generally don't work out as he hoped, and so they've done little to increase his standing in the eyes of the other Predacons.
===First wave toy bios===
Inhabiting the [[Mojave Desert]], Scorponok is suited to the harsh conditions of this arid environment. Described as vicious, this desert attack specialist relies mainly on surprise attacks to overcome his foes. For this task, he possesses three alternatives: launching a robotic bee stored in one claw, his 2-shot missile blast stored in the other; his terrifying tail, which deals poisonous cyber-strikes. {{storylink|Scorponok (BW)#Toys|Scorponok bio}}

{{note|The on-package [[Bio|bios]] of the first wave of Beast Wars toys, predate the development of the ''Beast Wars'' cartoon and its backstory. They seem to present the characters as a direct continuation of the previous Autobot/Decepticon conflict, with Optimus Primal actually being a new form of Optimus Prime and Megatron being his Generation 1 counterpart, and their battles taking place on present day, [[human]]-inhabited Earth, rather than in the distant past. Once the cartoon launched, the toyline adjusted itself to match that continuity instead, relegating this one to an aborted [[micro-continuity]].}}
====Theft of the Golden Disk====
:''Voice actor:'' [[Brad Venable]] (English)

The Predacon that would be called Scorponok and [[Backslash]] were part of a mission to steal the sacred [[Maximal]] relic, the [[Golden Disk (Voyager)|Golden Disk]], on behalf of [[Cryotek (RID)|Cryotek]]; in actual fact, "Scorponok" was loyal to [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] and in on his plan to take the disk for himself. He was meant to bomb [[Maximal Power Station B4-Y]] to aid Megatron and [[Dinobot (BW)|his partner]]'s attack; he was almost caught by a guard but Backslash saved him, berating him for being sloppy. Later on, when Backslash was caught by a guard, "Scorponok" laughed, mockingly referencing what Backslash said early and happily triggered the bombs, killing his alleged comrade. Nice guy. {{storylink|Theft of the Golden Disk}}
====Dawn of Future's Past====
[[Image:Scorponokbwdawn.jpg|right|200px|thumb|Admit it,you wanted this toy.]]
With the Disk in their hands, the thieves were picked up by their other comrades in a stolen ship, newly christened the ''Darksyde''. Soon after leaving Cybertron, the ''Darksyde'' was involved in a space battle with the Maximal vessels ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]'' and ''[[Chromia 10]]'' and an unidentified Predacon ship. At its conclusion, only the ''Axalon'' and the ''Darksyde'' survived, and both ships passed through a [[transwarp]] portal to an unknown destination. {{storylink|Dawn of Future's Past}}

[[Image:BeastWars1 Scorponok battleready.jpg|thumb|left|280px|OUR MISSILES!]]
Crash-landing on an unknown planet, Scorponok and his peers were forced to take on organic beast modes to shield themselves from the planet's dangerous levels of raw [[Energon (fuel)|energon]]. Scorponok took a scorpion as his new alternate mode. When Dinobot furiously berated Megatron for foolishly marooning them on the wrong planet and attempted to attack his leader, Scorponok stood behind Megatron and waited for his cue to fire on Dinobot, sending the traitor far into the distance. Later, Scorponok participated in the first battle between the Maximal and Predacon factions and managed to trap [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor's]] leg under a boulder. However, the Predacons soon succumbed to energon overload. {{storylink|Beast Wars (Part 1)}}

After recovering in beast mode, Scorponok and the lower-ranking Predacons were wagering who would win the battle between [[Optimus Primal]] and Dinobot until Megatron ordered them to fire on the unwitting combatants. After their shots failed to destroy the Maximals but instead revealed a massive energon cache buried inside a mountain, the Predacons moved out, followed by the Maximals. The two parties confronted each other at the energon cache, and Scorponok fought Dinobot in the one-on-one clashes that ensued. {{storylink|Beast Wars (Part 2)}}

[[Image:TheWeb Scorponok beastmode.jpg|right|220px|thumb|[http://biosector01.com/wiki/index.php/Vorox Beware my stinger tail!]]]
While Scorponok was later salvaging a mega-cannon, he was surprised by Cheetor. Luckily [[Tarantulas (BW)|Tarantulas]] distracted the Maximal, giving Scorponok time to hit Cheetor with a missile. Despite asserting that he was second in command and should be giving the orders, Scorponok took Tarantulas's suggestion to scarper before Optimus Primal arrived. He subsequently installed the cannon as part of the perimeter defences for the Predacon base, aided by [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]] and [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspinator]]. {{storylink|The Web}} Scorponok found himself hunting Cheetor again, when the cat somehow teleported into the Predacon base. Cheetor escaped into the ducts, so Scorponok sent a missile in after him, unsuccessfully. A short time later, they found Cheetor messing with the Predacon computer, so Scorponok fired another missile at him, only for it to end up slagging himself and Waspinator. {{storylink|Equal Measures}}

[[Image:ChainofCommand Scorponok fail.jpg|left|200px|thumb|Looks like somebody forgot their parachute before skydiving...]]
Scorponok took part in a battle at the [[Standing Stones]], and ended up face-down in the dirt after Cheetor shot him. After Primal went missing, blasted by an [[Vok probe|alien probe]], Megatron sent Scorponok and Waspinator to guard the Standing Stones. As it turned out, Primal wasn't dead, and after he was released from the probe, he blasted all of the Predacons. {{storylink|Chain of Command}} When Terrorsaur mounted a leadership bid and badly damaged Megatron, Scorponok simply had his leader repaired the ''instant'' Terrorsaur wasn't looking. {{storylink|Power Surge}}

After a [[stasis pod]] crashed, Megatron took Scorponok and Tarantulas to attack the Maximal base. While the Predacon leader provided a diversion, the two other Predacons sneaked up on Dinobot, knocking him out. Unfortunately for them, Dinobot had time to activate the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> [[autogun]]s, and first Tarantulas, then Scorponok were blasted off the ship. {{storylink|Fallen Comrades}} Scorponok was part of an ambush, enabling the Predacons to steal another stasis pod and bring [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] online. Terrorsaur would later mount another bid to become leader, with [[Rattrap]]'s help, but Scorponok announced loudly and at length that his loyalty belonged to Megatron and he would never follow Terrorsaur. As it turned out, Megatron allowed Terrorsaur temporary leadership, so Scorponok appeared to be happy to follow the new leader's commands, at least until it was proved in battle that Terrorsaur was incompetent as a leader. {{storylink|Double Jeopardy}}

Megatron tasked Scorponok with a mission to create a virus for his [[cyberbee]] that would turn Optimus Primal into a coward. Ambushing the Maximal leader and Dinobot as they were on a botanical study near a waterfall, Scorponok managed to have his cyberbee latch onto Optimus when he attempted to help the traitor. Unfortunately, Optimus Primal fired off a shot before going down, dislodging the log Scorponok was sitting upon and sending him over the edge of the waterfall. To greater misfortune, Scorponok had botched the virus, turning Optimus Primal not into a coward, but a fearless, ultra-aggressive berserker. Both Scorponok and Megatron were blown up with the cyberbee when Primal ripped it off and chucked it at Megatron's back. {{storylink|Gorilla Warfare}}

[[Image:TheProbe Scorponok minus claw.jpg|thumb|right|250px|He told me enough. He told me you killed him.]]
Scorponok spotted the Maximals building a communications array, and gave a video of it to Terrorsaur to take back to Megatron. After word came through that the array was to be destroyed, he confronted the Maximals. Primal intercepted his missiles, Rattrap blew his claw off, and then Dinobot blasted him into the distance-and he would later be squashed by Blackarachnia when Rattrap blasted her off the same cliff. {{storylink|The Probe}} He was later (improbably) one of the Predacons who staged a revolt against Megatron. That should have been the Maximal's first clue it was only a mock revolt, as once they'd made the ''Axalon'' space-worthy, the Predacons emerged from hiding and attempted to take their ship. Scorponok actually downed Dinobot at the start of the fight, but ended up eating the former Predacon's optic beams and a round of fire from the ''Axalon''. Despite this, he was still able to fire a missile to knock Primal from the entry lift, and Megatron would ensure that the ship would never fly again. {{storylink|Victory (episode)|Victory}}

[[Image:DarkDesigns Scorponok squished.jpg|thumb|left|200px|Yet another day Scorponok would rather forget.]]
After [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] was converted into a Predacon by Megatron's [[Transmuter (BW)|Transmuter]], Scorponok found himself assigned to repair the base computer. Unaware that the computer had actually been sabotaged by Rhinox, he was surprised and shocked when the ex-Maximal dropped a pile of heavy crates on him. A spell in a Predacon restoration pool left him ready to extract some revenge, but Rhinox deftly deflected his rage onto Terrorsaur, and the pair had their heads slammed together by Rhinox. Despite all this, he was able to take part in the inevitable fight with the Maximals, during which he was able to take some of his anger out on Dinobot. He ultimately lost the fight and was at ground zero when the Transmuter exploded. {{storylink|Dark Designs (episode)|Dark Designs}}

Scorponok acted as a lab assistant to Megatron, as his leader created a [[Clone One|clone of Dinobot]]. He was a teeny bit skeptical at the result. {{storylink|Double Dinobot}} When another stasis pod crashed, Megatron dispatched [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] and Scorponok to retrieve it. Blackarachnia was disgusted by Scorponok's subservient attitude, and on their way to the pod, she ditched him. Scorponok almost immediately ran into [[Tigatron]], who ended his quest by freezing him. {{storylink|The Spark}}

Scorponok was again teamed with Blackarachnia when Terrorsaur and Waspinator found a [[Brigadoon|weird flying island]]. After they reached the island, Scorponok used a cyberbee to check the place out, but it was intercepted by Tigatron. {{storylink|The Trigger, Part 1}} The two Predacons reached the obelisk at the center of the island and blasted their way in. When Blackarachnia announced the island's power would allow her to defeat even Megatron, Scorponok revealed that he had been sent with her to make sure that didn't happen. Of course, she promptly tricked him into triggering one of the island's many traps, and he fell through the hole that opened up to the ground below. {{storylink|The Trigger, Part 2}}

[[Image:Spider's Game Scorponok Inferno.jpg|right|200px|thumb|Looks like someone gave Scorponok...]]
On another occasion, Scorponok was on lookout when he spotted Tarantulas being "chased" by a stasis pod. Megatron ordered he obtain take the stasis pod back to base, so he confronted Tarantulas... only for the pod to blow up, knocking him into some boulders, where a falling rock rendered him unconscious. By the time he recovered, the fight was over, and Megatron ordered him to gather up [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] for repair. {{storylink|Spider's Game}} He took part in a diversionary attack on the ''Axalon'', while Waspinator and Terrorsaur stole the ship's [[rectifier coil]]. Later, once the Maximals had gone feral, he participated on the hunt by carrying Megatron's chair, but was taken down by Cheetor once the Maximals overcame their beast instincts. {{storylink|Call of the Wild}}

In one of his rare successes, Scorponok triggered an energon explosion, apparently taking out a group of Maximals. In reality, he'd simply blinded them, but he didn't find this out until after he'd reported back to Megatron. {{storylink|Dark Voyage}} After [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], possessing the body of Waspinator, helped the Predacons take over the ''Axalon'', Megatron left the [[Decepticon]] in charge of the Maximal base with Scorponok and Blackarachnia as underlings. When the inevitable betrayal occurred, Scorponok put up a token resistance before Starscream blasted him off the side of the ship. {{storylink|Possession}}
[[Image:OtherVoices1 Scorponok and Megatron pose.jpg|left|250px|thumb|So we shall flow a river forth to Thee and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti]]
Scorponok was among the Predacons who were taken out by Rhinox's almighty fart. {{storylink|The Low Road}} After Megatron declared a truce, and Tigatron infiltrated the Predacon base in search of information, Scorponok and Terrorsaur attempted to stop the Maximal from escaping, and ended up colliding spectacularly. Luckily for Scorponok, he didn't have to pursue Tigatron, as the Predacons who did mostly came back on stretchers. {{storylink|Before the Storm}} Scorponok later accompanied Megatron on a mission to an alien construct which had appeared. His toxic sting was instrumental in breaching the construct's wall, allowing Rattrap to get inside and retrieve [[Airazor (BW)|Airazor]]. Of course, a short time later, Rattrap used one of Scorponok's missiles to dispose of Megatron, shortly before Scorponok himself was blasted by Airazor. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 1}}

[[Image:BW Scorponok Terrorsaur deaths.jpg|right|150px|thumb|Oh, the... robotity?]]
Back at base, Scorponok and the other Predacons monitored the situation with the [[Planet Buster]] which had been revealed high above the planet. Though Scorponok was confident that Megatron would save them, his leader announced that he had someone else in mind to do that. As it turned out, Optimus Primal was the one who piloted a modified stasis pod and blew up the Planet Buster. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 2}} Scorponok celebrated with his fellow Predacons, but the destruction of the alien weapon had other consequences. A [[quantum surge]] flooded through the base, beginning to mutate their bodies into [[Transmetal]]s. However both Scorponok and Terrorsaur lost control of their hover platforms, crashing into each other and tumbling into the lava beneath the Predacon base, where they perished. No one much noticed, though Blackarachnia pointed out that only Waspinator was present with Megatron when the Predacons arrived at the ''Axalon'' (only to keep herself from getting blasted). {{storylink|Aftermath}}
However, Scorponok and Terrorsaur were not actually dead—they were just in stasis lock. They awakened after the [[Beast Wars (event)|Beast Wars]] ended, finding themselves in Transmetal bodies. Scorponok got shafted, though-his new body didn't have a third vehicle mode like everyone else's. He had hover-fans with which he could [[Flight|fly]], though, so that's likely a decent thing. {{storylink|Beast Wars Sourcebook}}
{{Note|Scorponok is a playable character in the Predacon mode of this game for normal gameplay.}}
Scorponok is reported to be mining energon in a desert area, causing damage to the environment. A lone Maximal investigates, only to be confronted with an onslaught of defenses; automated weapons protecting the arid area include immobile autoguns, automated weapons that arise from the sands to pester the hero with volleys of lasers and blasts, in addition to an array of flying machines and devices that relentlessly open fire on sight on any Maximal that trespasses in Scorponok's territory. Additionally, the area is populated by ravenous beasts, including what appears to be velociraptors! But of all the obstacles to be faced, the most incredible appear to be an automated weapon that FIRES ravenous beasts! Turrets mounted on hillsides dispense snakes to antagonize Maximals who approach it. If all of this wasn't enough, the large amount of energon deposits throughout the area force the lone warrior to revert to beast mode oftentimes. After the Maximal traverses the desert, Scorponok is revealed to be in command of his own personal base! Thus the confrontation between Maximal and Predacon begins: the bout starts with Scorponok standing outside his base, protected by a shield and two autoguns (he'd been saving up for his own little place in the wasteland, obviously), on the opposite side of a canyon from the Maximal. Whilst the autoguns fire, Scorponok also unleashes volleys of his personal arsenal. Once the guns are destroyed, the whole shield program shuts down. Scorponok then begins strafing and firing, but after a few more hits, falls into the canyon. Nonetheless, this is not the end of Scorponok! The Maximal must now confront Scorponok in a close-quarter combat, by following his enemy into the canyon. After a few more blasts, Scorponok collapses (and presumably the Maximal loots his base). {{storylink|Beast Wars: Transformers (video game)|Beast Wars: Transformers}}
==Notes==
[[Image:ToyFair96ScorpGriz.jpg|right|180px|thumb|The most effective stealth ever.]]
* Scorponok was first advertised on the back of the [[Optimus Primal]] versus [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] two-pack at the start of the ''Beast Wars'' line with a completely different color scheme. The toy itself was cast completely in transparent orange and blue plastic, which would have made it remarkably fragile at the joints. Another version cast in pink translucent plastic and having the final claw coloration surfaced in 2006, although this could likely be explained by the random plastics used in [[Prototype|test shots]].
** Some early animation test shots included on [[Madman Entertainment|Madman Entertainment's]] Beast Wars Season 2 DVD release show Scorponok in his orange and blue color scheme.

*Scorponok's CGI animation model had an unusual tendency to switch from having yellow-colored optics to red-colored optics at random—sometimes within the same scene of a given episode. Most of the time he had yellow, though.

* Scorponok's pre-Beast form in "[[Theft of the Golden Disk]]" is a [[redeco]] of ''[[Cybertron (toyline)|Cybertron]]'' [[Shortround]], but in "[[Dawn of Future's Past]]" he is based on [[Scorponok (Energon)|''Energon'' Scorponok]], even though the latter story is set immediately after the former, with no real opportunity for him to change bodies in between.

* In the first few episodes, Scorponok's missiles had Maximal [[Insignia|faction symbols]] on them, a Cybertronian equivalent to carving the name of your next victim on your bullets. Many viewers failed to pick up on this symbolism, though, and they were promptly replaced with Predacon faction symbols to avoid confusion.
'''Cheetor is behaving oddly after the accident, and a new Transmetal 2 creature is stalking both camps.'''

==Synopsis==
[[Optimus Primal]] checks on [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]], who is napping after he collapsed in front of the [[Maximal]]s' current base, heavily damaged from the fight with the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]]. After making sure Cheetor's okay, Primal has a discussion with [[Rattrap]], mentioning that Cheetor has refused to use the [[CR chamber]]. Rattrap figures he wants to prove something, but Optimus is suspicious. He decides to discuss it with Cheetor in the morning, while Rattrap decides to take a little rat nap.

[[Image:Feral Scream 2 Cheetor mutate.jpg|left|200px|thumb|The [[JaAm]] proceeds to mutate Cheetor.]]
Cheetor doesn't sleep soundly, though. From the cat's chest, a strange appendage grows, and Cheetor has a nightmare of the other Maximals (sans Optimus Primal) wanting to see 'what makes him tick', and subsequently transforming him into an ugly, mutated monstrosity, to their disgust. Cheetor awakens, glad his dream was unreal, but finds himself caught in a green light expanding out of his spark.

Rattrap, awakened by the noise, heads to the lower level to see what's wrong. Before he reaches Cheetor's room, a large cat monster bursts out of it and knocks Rattrap over, then rushes away. Optimus Primal comes to help Rattrap, who (incorrectly) assumes that the big ugly monster has gotten Cheetor.

In the [[Darksyde|Predacon base]], [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] hears the roar of the roaming beast and checks the radar. He figures out that Cheetor has been upgraded, explaining who his nemesis from the most recent battle was. [[Waspinator]] is sent to capture the cat-bot.

[[Image:Feral Scream 2 Optimus mean.jpg|right|200px|thumb| Does this look unsure to you?]]
[[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]] returns to the Maximals' base, having failed to locate Cheetor (and jealous of [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]]'s concern for the feline). Having already surmised what is going on, Optimus Primal confronts [[Depth Charge (BW)|Depth Charge]], and forces an account of the relevant events out of him. Depth Charge explains that Cheetor removed some device from the Predacon machine, but was caught in the overload. Depth Charge also says that he destroyed the [[Transmetal driver]].

[[Image:Feral Scream 2 Dinobot Waspinator.jpg|left|200px|thumb|Dinobot II and Waspinator watch a train go by.]]
Awakening in a cave, Cheetor finds himself back in his usual [[Transmetal]] form again, completely repaired, but with fragmented, disturbing memories of what happened the previous night. Later, [[Dinobot II|Dinobot]] and Waspinator find the cave, and after shredding Waspinator, Dinobot proceeds to hunt the Maximal. But inside the cave, he finds Cheetor has already left.

Optimus orders the Maximals to search for Cheetor in [[Grid Alpha Two]], but Cheetor shows up outside the Maximal base. He tries to explain that he's taken care of "the monster". Optimus Primal, being less gullible than Cheetor is clever, indicates he wants Cheetor to take him to the creature's remains. Away from the other Maximals, Primal and Cheetor talk, but before Cheetor can admit the truth, Primal's chest is fried by Dinobot.

[[Image:Feral Scream 2 Cheetor Waspinator.jpg|right|200px|thumb|Why are teenagers so freaking cocky?]]
The emotional stress of Cheetor's concern tears the cat back into his [[Transmetal 2]] form, and he easily blasts away Waspinator away. The two Transmetals 2 duel with each other, slashing each other in their beast modes. When Rattrap and Silverbolt arrive, Dinobot is smart enough to retreat.

Optimus reaches out to the feral Cheetor, coaxing him back to his senses. Back at the Maximal base, Cheetor tries to keep his cool while he flirts with Blackarachnia. Cheetor misinterprets her affection as something personal, when really she's more interested in his technology—and how she can [[Crossing the Rubicon|get some of it for herself]].
"Any sign of our tabby?"<br />
"Oh, not so much as a whisker. Your...concern does you credit."<br />

"You listen, hardhead. Cheetor's gone, and I think you know something, so you will talk, or I will rip out your core processor and extract the information personally."
:—'''Optimus Primal''' gets scary-mad at Depth Charge.

"Wait! Need plan! Waspinator in charge!"<br />
"I ''am'' the plan."
:—Waspinator and Dinobot, shortly before the former is shredded by the latter.
'''Rattrap:''' Oh, joy...cyber-puberty.
:—<s>Rebellious teen</s> Transmetal 2 Cheetor seems to have quite an attitude.

==Notes==
===Animation and technical errors===
*During his fight with Cheetor, Dinobot's large plate that covers his beast-mode crotch seems to be moving and stretching together with his right leg.

===Continuity errors===
*The scratches that Cheetor inflicted on Megatron's chest plate in the previous episode have switched from his right side to his left side.

===Real-world references===
*In response to a threat from Dinobot II, Cheetor says, "I don't think so." While perhaps not an intentional reference, that was something of a catchphrase for Bob on [[Mainframe Entertainment]]'s ''ReBoot''. [[Ian James Corlett]] (Cheetor) voiced the character during its third and fourth seasons.
*There is a possible nod to the film ''[[Jurassic Park]]'' during Cheetor and Dinobot's fight. In the film velociraptors were said to be able to move at cheetah speeds. Apparently Cheetor felt that the scientific inaccuracy was an insult and thought he would prove the film makers wrong.

===Trivia===
*The contents of Cheetor's room:
** A photo of himself and Primal from the first season.
** A big trophy with a Predacon insignia on the base.
** A model of solar system with haphazardly-orbiting planets.
** What could possibly be a model of a [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertronian city]].
** A photo of Blackarachnia.
** A potted plant.
** Three spare tail-clubs.
** A miniature model of the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]''.
** A clock with a kind of holographic display to indicate the stages of a Solar cycle.
** A model Douglas DC-3.
*During Cheetor's nightmare, after Blackarachnia says "it's hideous," Rattrap makes motions as though he's going to puke.
*Megatron's observation that Cheetor is moving at Mach 2 seems a bit absurd. Yes, turning Transmetal 2 is portrayed as one heck of an upgrade and Cheetor has a rocket on his back, but a quadruped running at that speed is still fairly ridiculous.
*Waspinator was able to find Cheetor, while Silverbolt didn't. So Waspinator is a better tracker than Silverbolt? More likely, Megatron's scan of Cheetor's "moonlight stroll" narrowed the search zone, whereas the Maximals had no information about his trajectory.
*[[Cybertronix]]
**The text under Rattrap's monitors is mirrored at first, but doesn't say anything particular notable.
**Unsurprisingly, the text which flashes briefly on Megatron's monitor when he asks for magnification says "MAGNIFY".
*Waspinator has a sling when he tells Dinobot to "stand aside, Waspinator will take kitty-bot to Megatron." Apparently his arm was hurt just a little bit worse than the rest of him when Dinobot turned him into confetti.
*Optimal Optimus does two distinctive ape-like things when he transforms to beast mode. Namely scratching and showing interest in a bunch of bananas.
*Cheetor is able to almost completely dominate Dinobot in their fight, despite Dinobot's ability to take down both Depth Charge and Optimus Primal with little effort. Whether this is beast instincts or Cheetor is just that much stronger in his new form can be speculated upon.
