Okay, so here's the deal. There are a metric buttload of these we now have access to. The only one that's been positively given a meaning so far is the one for Primes, in Defiance. It doesn't match any of the ones on the figures themselves, nor does it match the absolute boodle that were revealed on the toy packaging. I'd start transcribing those, but without meanings for them I'm hesitant to set them down to filenames that would just need to be moved later. Do we have any other sources? Are any of the online games revealing glyph meanings?--RosicrucianTalk 00:54, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
:Still no meanings, sadly. I don't know if the movie itself is even interested in assigning them. Sometime this weekend or next I think I'll do up a PDF file with the ones from the packaging and the ones on already-released figures like Chromia. I'll label them as best I can, but if people have more information it's really welcomed.--RosicrucianTalk 01:47, 24 June 2009 (EDT)
I think we should seriously consider moving this page to "Riker." When researching this book, the native speakers (and foreign experts) I consulted brought up the whole difference in the traditional rendition of Riker into Katakana. The consensus was that Raikuru was chosen for both its association with the Science Fiction character (remember, this is the series that also brought us Ewoks) as well as I think recycling. My advice was to go with either Riker or Recycle, and Riker seemed more in keeping with his actual name. Raikuru just doesn't make much sense to non-native speakers, and unlike the Trainbots or the Dinoforce doesn't have any kind of ring to it.
Cybertronian: The Unofficial Transformers Recognition Guide was a series of unofficial guidebooks published by Antarctic Press between 2001-2002, documenting the American Transformers toy line. Over the course of seven volumes, it covered every American Generation 1, Generation 2 and Machine Wars toy, as well as the first year of the Beast Wars toy line.

A departure from previous unofficial guidebooks that functioned primarily as price guides to Transformers as a collectible investment, Cybertronian put forth a view that Transformers toys were worthy of an intrinsic interest as "one of the best robot toy lines in history," separate from any monetary value, and focusing on the characters the toys represented.

Cybertronian compiled a comprehensive imaging of over 500 toys, showing them in every mode, covering an 11-year span with no omissions. No other English-language Transformers guidebook (official or unofficial) has approached this level of detail or completion; its only real rival in those respects is the licensed Japanese work Transformers Generations.

Their high-quality imagery made the guidebooks an ideal photo-reference and artists and colorists at Dreamwave comics would rely heavily on copies of Cybertronian, along with certain Studio Ox character models, as an artistic reference.

Two pieces of fan art commissioned for Cybertronians covers subsequently became official art when they were among the works selected for publication in 2003's Genesis: The Art of Transformers coffee-table book.

Level of Detail
Presented in a squarebound format slightly smaller than a standard American comic book (and with slightly inconsistent dimensions across subsequent reprintings), each volume featured all the released toys of about two waves of product, as well as backup features such as cartoon episode guides, summaries of the U.S. Marvel comic and an interesting but less-comprehensive round-up of early merchandise.

Most characters are afforded a whole page which pictures them (in color photos) in both robot and altmode, has a close-up headshot, and shows all weapons and accessories/loose pieces in a separate box-out for easy identification. Also included is a second box-out with a "detail view" of some aspect particular to the toy such as undocumented additional transformations or weapon storage. Known variants are mentioned (but not comprehensively), as are some Japanese mold reuses.

Particularly elaborate characters with multiple components, transformations and/or accessories such as Sky Lynx or Fortress Maximus are afforded multiple pages. Some smaller characters such as minibots or Constructicons get half a page each.

Text includes a reproduction of their Tech Spec stats and bios, including translations in instances where the only official toy bios for certain combiner characters were featured on Japanese gift sets. (It shows.)

Most characters also contain additional text in the photo sections that contain some highly useful & interesting information, such as listing the exact real-world makes/models for the vehicle modes all relevant characters, warnings of instances of common breakage or transformation-induced sticker damage, or other tidbits such as Gold Plastic Syndrome or pointing out how Bludegon, Octopunch and Stranglehold are depicted only with melee weapons in the comic, yet their toys come packaged solely with guns. And that Stranglehold looks like Gabe Kaplan, apparently.

Some information about unproduced toys and European exclusives is also featured. The series is written by Doug Dlin, Harold Tietjens, Rikard Bakke, Robert R. Jung, Paul Kilpatrick and Ben Yee. It is edited by Doug Dlin and Harold Tietjens. Photography is by Harold Tietjens, book design by Lee Duhig of Guru e-FX with David Hutchison, Robert Bevard, and Brian Denham.

They never got around to doing a vol. 2, apparently. Although given a separate numbering, this was, for all intents and purposes, the 7th and final volume of the series.

Cybertronian Index
Published some time later, this is strictly a quick visual reference guide, intended to allow readers to identify their toys without providing the more detailed information of the standard issues. Each toy gets one photo of each of its modes. The toys are organized primarily by size class, being listed alphabetically within each class. The issue includes images of every American-market Transformer released up to the time of its publication, including Beast Machines and Robots In Disguise.

Trivia
* Just marginally preceding the Dreamwave-led boom in G1's resurgent popularity and retro-nostalgia, Cybertronian featured some of the first published (if not exactly official) neo-G1 art since the Generation 2 comic, in the form of several splendid covers (subsequent reprintings of some issues featured variant artworks). A couple of these covers have since been rendered "official" by publication in the coffee-table artbook Transformers: Genesis.

* These things cost an arm and a freakin' leg, even originally, with a cover price of US$24.95 (it was even worse for those outside the U.S. who had to import them). Expect to pay easily that much and up for the back issues now on eBay, chumps.
Synopsis
On an alien planet, inside a seedy bar, a female alien and her two cohorts meet with a shrouded figure. She gives him two cards, saying that they would take him so far as to the docking platforms. The cloaked figure thanks her, but she says that the thanks isn't necessary, but just as he's about to walk away, she mentions that the cruiser is Cybertronian. The stranger confirms it, as the female alien wonders why Cybertronians have docked on their planet. One of the female's cohorts take the time to mention his disgust of all Cybertronian, but the female shuts him up. When the cohort tries to remind her that she hates them as well, the figure mutters the word "Decepticons".

The female goes on to say that the cruiser is a Decepticon vessel, and that they apparently came from the outer reaches, damaged and with Autobot prisoners. The alien is curious about the figure's interest in the vessel, and wants him to reconsider, saying that Cybertronians are the plague, bringing death and destruction with them. The figure isn't interested in her concern, but when she touches him, she realizes that he's Cybertronian as well. The figure bows and thanks her, then walks off. Outside the bar, the cloaked Cybertronian looks up and sees the Decepticon vessel above the city. Moments later, on top of the vessel the Cybertronian tosses his cloak away, activates some switches to turn off the vessel's security systems, then jumps inside. Landing quietly, he slides over to a hallway and sees some Decepticons talking. But just as he's about to make a move, a sudden explosion does the job, and the Wreckers, led by Kup, enter the vessel. The Cybertronian laments "So much for quiet".

On the bridge, a Decepticon soldier warns Commander Turmoil that the ship has been breached. Turmoil angrily asks who did this, to which the soldier said that it's a small assault force that the sensors didn't pick up. Turmoil slams his fist in anger, realizing that it's Kup. Meanwhile, the Wreckers battle the Decepticon soldiers, all while wondering who the mysterious white Cybertronian is. He doesn't have a faction symbol on his chest, and the swords that he wields look familiar. Kup asks him why he's here, to which he replies that he was trying to sneak in. Perceptor examines him and is amazed that he had been recently upgraded in a matter that he hadn't seen since centuries. Kup isn't impressed and orders the Wreckers to move, while asking the Cybertronian to come with them. The Cybertronian insists on taking the lead, since he's here for the same reason.

In a large room, Perceptor senses Turmoil's group behind on of the locked doors, and they're attempting to break in his locks. But then, they suddenly stop. Perceptor decides to add several more blocks to the ones that he had planted in the system, and doesn't imaging that they will break through. Without warning, a beam pierces Perceptor in the chest, as Turmoil and his group fire away at the Wreckers. The Cybertronian rushes at Turmoil, ignoring Kup's orders. The Cybertronian is stopped by a small explosion, and Turmoil recognizes the Cybertronian as Deadlock. Deadlock runs away as Turmoil orders the traitor be destroyed. Turmoil charges his cannon arm and fires at a wall, causing Kup and Deadlock to fall down below.

When they land, Kup now knows who Deadlock is: a Decepticon who slaughtered quite a few Autobots. Deadlock says that he no longer goes up that name, and is no longer a Decepticon. Kup said that long ago, there used to be a third faction (actually more of a faction against factions), which was a large group of Cybertronians that refused to have any part of the Great War. Kup believes that this faction either died or went into hiding from Cybertron. Most of the Autobots didn't care about them, because they were concerned about the war. Looking at Deadlock's sword, Kup is beginning to think differently, and asks him if the meeting had to do with him leaving the Decepticons, to which Deadlock confirms. Kup thinks he's getting a second chance, but Deadlock says that he already has one. Kup knows, because Perceptor (who normally wouldn't be along with the Wreckers) kept an eye out on Kup, repairing and upgrading his body, making him even more better. With the talk over, Kup decides to move out, but Deadlock stops him; although he's not an Autobot, he has an idea to bring the ship down, and Kup is listening.

Later, inside the ship's core, Deadlock is finishing setting the core to overload its system in several minutes, which will tear the vessel apart. Kup is amazed that Deadlock knows about the ship, to which he replies that he used to serve under Turmoil. Kup says that Springer and the other made it out (except Perceptor) and are bringing their ship out. Deadlock sets the core system, but Turmoil appears from behind a part of the wall he blew up. Deadlock tells to go, and Kup manages to exit just as Turmoil blasts at them.

Turmoil says that he thought he'd lost Deadlock. Deadlock says that that name is dead—he now wants to be known as Drift. Turmoil doesn't care and fires at him again, but Drift manages to evade the blasts and stabs at Turmoil's shoulders and slashes at his chest. Drift tells Turmoil that they're going about it the wrong way in the Great War. After countless centuries of fighting, the Autobots are a step away from the Decepticons when they started, and the Decepticons became something worse than they could imagine. Turmoil says that the Autobots would never accept an outcast like him, and asks Drift to kill him and run, proving that he's nothing more than when he left the Decepticons. Drift knows what he came for, then leaves the room just as the core starts to overload. After transforming briefly, Drift grabs Perceptor and they jump off the vessel just as it explodes.

Later on, Springer tells Kup that they will be docking with the Trion shortly, and that all six Autobots are accounted for, but Kup corrects him, saying that it's actually seven. Kup tells Drift that he's forming a new unit, and wants him to join. Springer is stunned, but Drift accepts. Springer whispers to Kup that it wasn't wise, but Kup says that Drift proved himself down at the Decepticon vessel, and that there's more to fighting the war than blowing heads off. Besides, as Kup says, "everyone deserves a second chance".
*Not that this is surprising for an issue penned by McCarthy, but Drift's comments about the Autobots being closer to the Decepticons than they started out as makes little sense, seeing how they were initially a police force governed by a corrupt senate, and have now become a dedicated counter-strike team determined to stop the Decepticons from destroying worlds as they so please.
Transformers Animated: The Arrival is a 6-issue mini-series published by IDW Publishing, debuting in August 2008, and set in the Transformers Animated continuity. Each story seems to be mostly self-contained and (broadly) non-conflicting with the cartoon. In this regard it is of some significance as the first comic to be explicitly set in the same continuity as a concurrently ongoing animated series.

Overview
The Arrival occurs concurrently with the Animated cartoon, taking place in-between—and in some cases, during—various episodes of the series, often fleshing out off-screen events and explaining how certain events that were merely alluded to onscreen went down in detail. After the opening issue, which retells the pilot movie from different perspectives, the bulk of the series (issues #2–5) is set during the early portion of the show's first season, taking place between "Total Meltdown" and "The Thrill of the Hunt" (and in one instance, during the latter), with two stories taking the form of flashbacks detailing events in the characters' pasts.

Optimus Prime's space bridge repair crew encounters Megatron, and all are lost in the Space Bridge. Both the Autobots and Decepticons deliver eulogies for their lost comrades. On Earth, Isaac Sumdac discovers Megatron's head, and over time, progresses from simple attempts at reverse-engineering to the establishment of Sumdac Systems. The Autobots awaken and meet Sari, establishing themselves as Detroit's new heroes. The Arrival issue 1

Starscream refuses to team up with Blackarachnia, but during their scuffle, crashes into the Earth's Moon. Later, he makes his way to Earth and attacks the Autobots, and during the battle, the AllSpark is briefly opened. The resulting energy burst is detected by both the Autobots and the Decepticons, and the two groups make tracks for Earth. The Arrival issue 1

As Angry Archer attempts to rob a used car lot, he is foiled by a superhero named The Wraith. Bumblebee steals The Wraith's thunder, however, and exposes him as a hack. The Wraith seeks revenge by staging a phony attack by Bumblebee at a football game, causing the Autobots to intervene. The Wraith is caught and sent to an insane asylum. Attention Surplus Disorder

After his battle with Optimus, Starscream is in temporary stasis lock and has an embarrassing encounter with Professor Princess, who accidentally reactivates him. Whatever Happened To Whatisname?

Sumdac is robbed by a former kick boxer turned industrial saboteur named Stiletto. The professor reveals that the stolen materials were two new prototypes: a new kind of metal alloy and a high-power laser scalpel. The Autobots catch up to her, and she gives them a good battle, but she's finally captured by Optimus Prime. Megatron, watching the news feed of the capture, considers this test of the material he plans to use for his new swords a successful field run. Stilleto

In Cybertron's past, Ratchet find dozens of Transformers, both Autobot and Decepticon, killed by a chemical weapon created by the Decepticons that's been nicknamed "Cosmic Rust". When a Decepticon calls for a medic, Ratchet helps, despite his misgivings. The 'Con reveals he can develop an antidote with Ratchet's help, and the medic agrees. As it's created, the two almost become friends before Oil Slick turns on Ratchet, infecting him with the rust. Ratchet is able to steal same of the antidote to not only cure himself but to bring back for mass production. He muses on the little bit of deception he learned from Oil Slick...and whether or not something from the Autobots might rub off on the Decepticons one day. 'Bots of Science

Porter C. Powell markets a consumer vehicle line called the Bulkhead, a gas-guzzling "mega van" inspired by the Autobot of the same name. Bulkhead objects but legally has no recourse, and the vans cause chaos throughout the city. Bulkhead disguises himself as a Powell-themed vehicle and takes Powell on a dangerous, high-speed joyride, during which a terrified Powell confesses the perilous design flaws of the unit. A hidden camera captures Powell's entire confession, forcing a recall of the defective vehicles. The Insincerest Form of Flattery

On New Kaon, Lockdown is hired by Blitzwing to bring in the Autobot presumed responsible for Megatron's death. He tracks the Nemesis to the location of its crash on the Moon and determines that a repair crew led by Optimus Prime was responsible. However, he is suddenly ambushed by Blackarachnia, who was also investigating the crash. The pair come to blows, and they are both eventually knocked unconscious. When Lockdown comes to, Blackarachnia is seemingly gone, so he boards his ship and heads down to Detroit in pursuit of his real target, Optimus Prime, little realizing that Blackarachnia, stowing away aboard his ship and hidden from its scanners thanks to her techno-organic make-up, has hitched a free ride to Earth and is now hot in pursuit of the very same Autobot...
The Ark is the name given to the Autobot spaceship that, in many universes, originally carried the Autobot and Decepticon armies to Earth.

The Ark is a Vanguard-class Deep Space Interceptor.
It has 5 Decks and houses a full crew complement of 300 Transformers (although it can be flown by only a handful if necessary). Its environment is fully automated and self-sufficient. For engines, it features 4 Hyperfuel Intake Accelerators.

It is armed with 16 particle-combustion cannons (port), 16 laser emitters (starboard), a primary starfield missile launcher, and an Overshock sonic battery.
Marvel Comics continuity
Generation 1
In the comic, the Ark was referred to as "the last of the Great Arks," suggesting that, as in the cartoon, there had been previous Vanguard-class ships. It is also referred to as the most powerful starship in Cybertron's history, and control of it was considered a huge tactical advantage.

It was launched to clear a path for the wandering planet Cybertron through an asteroid field. When this was done and her reserves depleted, the Decepticons attacked and boarded her. Hoping to end the threat of Megatron forever, Optimus Prime purposely crashed the ship into the passing planet Earth. The Ark crashed into Mount St. Hilary, a volcano located a small distance outside of what would one day become Portland, Oregon.

After the crash, some of the Ark's systems still functioned, and when they detected the Decepticon Shockwave making planetfall, the ship revived five of her Autobot crew and rebuilt them into the Dinobots. Upon the disappearance of these warriors in their attempt to destroy Shockwave, the Ark shut itself down.

Four million years later, Mount St. Hilary erupted, jarring the ship back to life. It revived and, unable to distinguish Autobot from Decepticon or to detect organic life (clearly it had suffered additional malfunctions since creating the Dinobots), it revived both sides to transform into the machines it perceived as the planet's dominant lifeforms.

The Ark became the Autobots' main base of operations on Earth until, during Grimlock's first term as Autobot leader, he had the ship repaired and returned to space. The Ark hung around near Earth for a time, until it was abandoned in orbit when Primus teleported all nearby Transformers back to Cybertron to face Unicron. It was recovered by the Dinobots and flown to Cybertron to engage Unicron. Grimlock, being the master of tactics that he is, physically rammed Unicron with the powerfully armed starship, which was then abandoned and crashed on Cybertron. It was recovered this time by Shockwave and Starscream, who repaired it and took it to Earth to conquer that planet with it. This plan was foiled by Galvatron, Megatron and Ratchet crashing the party. Their battle caused the ship to crash to Earth again, this time into the Canadian wilderness.

The Ark's original crew in the comics included all of the 1984 Autobots, the Dinobots, Red Alert (in the UK), the recorded mental engrams of most of the other 1985 Autobot cars, and Toaster.
The Ark was recovered and repaired by Megatron, who attempted to take it back to Cybertron and conquer that planet with it. This was foiled by Fortress Maximus and Spike Witwicky, who sacrificed their lives to cause an anti-matter explosion that finally destroyed the great ship.
Megatron took command of the Ark, but apparently kept it (with Ratchet on ice, and Shockwave's head in a jar) as his new headquarters on Earth. The ship played host to the visiting Decepticons led by Bug Bite, and a subsequent battle between the Decepticons as well as a party of invading Autobots, who destroyed its computers. Games of Deception
The Ark was launched under the command of Optimus Prime to search for fuel, but ran afoul of two colliding asteroids. Then the Decepticon ship attacked, and the Decepticons under Megatron boarded it. Out of control, the Ark crashed to Earth, smashing into a volcano in what would eventually become a desert. The exact location is unknown, but closely resembled the American southwest. There it rested until a volcanic eruption four million years later reactivated it and its inhabitants. More than Meets the Eye, Part 1

The Ark's crew consisted of all the 1984 Autobots. A vehicle resembling Grapple's alt-mode and called "Hauler" is also seen shortly after the Autobots revived on Earth and may represent another crew member. ====Autobot Headquarters====

After coming back online, the Decepticons immediately departed. However, the Autobots remained in their crashed ship, which served as their base of operations: Autobot Headquarters.

The ship was severely damaged by the crash and its subsequent entombment; massive rocks were visible inside the ship (whether they penetrated the hull on impact or were formed there later is unclear), and broken and damaged consoles are frequently seen in the background. The ship never flew again. The Autobots seemed to be preparing to re-launch it after the crash of the Decepticon space cruiser, More than Meets the Eye, Part 3 but months later, both the Autobots and the ship remained on Earth. Transport to Oblivion

Over time, the Autobots modified and expanded their base. An elevator provided passage to upper levels within the volcano, Enter the Nightbird and a retractable door sealed off the volcano's crater. Dinobot Island, Part 2 Early on, a small module serving as Ratchet's medical center sat near the main entrance, More than Meets the Eye, Part 1 but was later removed. Explorations by Sideswipe and Brawn revealed a system of caves beyond the ship's walls. The caves revealed a treasure trove of dinosaur bones, which became the inspiration for the Dinobots. S.O.S. Dinobots The base's nerve center was the supercomputer Teletraan I.

The base's geographic location proved a liability on at least two occasions, when Decepticon-induced calamities caused the volcano to become active again. During the first of these eruptions, several Autobots were blasted out of the cone and into the troposphere, requiring Skyfire to come to their rescue. Ironhide managed to bring the eruption to a halt by shooting down some rocks. No, really. The Ultimate Doom, Part 2 The system of caves beneath the base also allowed the Constructicons to enter the base from below, in an attempt to destroy Teletraan I. Heavy Metal War Laserbeak was known to use the volcano's crater as an entry/exit point when on spying missions. Divide and Conquer

Autobot Headquarters remained in use in 2005, though it appears to have been supplanted by Autobot City as the Autobots' primary operations center. During Megatron's massive assault on Autobot City in 2005, Autobot Headquarters fell under assault by Menasor and Bruticus. Transformers: The Animated Movie

By 2006, the base had been equipped with a large number of retractable cannons built into the mountainside. They were not enough to save it from destruction at the hands of the giant Decepticon Trypticon, however. A squad of Autobots led by Warpath made a stand against the oncoming city-bot, but were brushed aside. Warpath ordered Teletraan I to activate the automated defenses, but the barrage of cannonfire gave Trypticon only momentary pause. He smashed the guns, then blasted the entire mountain to rubble. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5

According to Optimus Primal, the Ark was built using "die-cast" construction, a lost art by the Beast Wars era.

According to Blackarachnia, the Ark was launched under the command of Optimus Prime, carrying a group of the Autobots' "finest heroes". One of the two copies of the Covenant of Primus was carried aboard. During the voyage, the Ark came under attack by the Nemesis, the flagship of the Decepticon fleet. Decepticon Leader Megatron led a boarding party which attacked the Ark crew. However, both ships were damaged and fell into the gravity well of the nearby planet Earth. The Ark crashed into a semi-active volcano, and the Transformers aboard were sent into emergency stasis lock.

Though Megatron had ostensibly come to prehistoric Earth to look for a massive cache of energon to fuel his war against the Maximal Imperium, he was in reality following instructions recorded by the original Megatron on the Golden Disk from the Voyager space probe. Once on Earth, he apparently found the crash site of the Ark, but buried the entrance to the interior of the volcano. At that point, he had deemed the plan to destroy the deactivated Autobots aboard her and change the outcome of the Great War as a last-chance gamble should he ever be backed into a corner with little hope of escape. Such a situation came to pass while he was a prisoner aboard Ravage's transwarp cruiser, and he convinced the former Decepticon to free him by revealing his plan. The Agenda (Part 2)

After failing to destroy the Maximal base, he traveled to the crash site, where he forced Blackarachnia to deactivate the security systems of Teletraan I and allow him access to the Ark's bridge. Observing that he was walking in the hallowed halls of the past as somebody who was soon to change the very course of history, he flew to the prone form of Optimus Prime and unleashed a torrent of pent-up rage over what he felt was Maximal injustice toward the conquered Predacons. He then fired at Optimus Prime's head, which created a time storm. The Agenda (Part III) Fortunately, the Maximals fixed everything. Optimal Situation

Megatron would later reenter the Ark with a new mission: take the spark of Megatron and merge it with his own. However, Tarantulas betrayed him and set the Ark to self-destruct. Fortunately, Blackarachnia was able to deactivate the overload. Master Blaster

After securing the Nemesis, Megatron attempted to destroy the Ark (along with all the Decepticons inside, which might have destroyed him as well). The Maximals tried to bring the Ark online and use it to fight against the Nemesis, but the engines had been idle for too long. However, using a shuttle housed in the Ark, Rhinox was able to damage the Nemesis and capture Megatron. After sufficient modifications, the shuttle was later used to transport the Maximals home, while the Ark and its sleeping passengers remained in the volcano to begin the Great War eventually. Nemesis Part 2
Razorbeast and his small, temporally displaced group traveled to the Maximal encampment in the volcano in order to obtain tools to repair the transwarp signal booster which they hoped to find in the wreckage of Ravage's transwarp cruiser. Not willing to risk taking something that might be noticed missing from the Axalons shell, they instead took what they need from the Ark. The Gathering issue 3
Dreamwave Generation 1 comics
There is some question as to the Ark's appearance in the Dreamwave continuity, as it is never shown in totality in an actual comic story. Pictures are seen in the final issue of their More Than Meets The Eye guide, and there it is drawn to look mostly like the cartoon model (though oddly missing the rear "spoiler"). However, the DK Transformers Ultimate Guide, whose main focus was Dreamwave continuity, gives a cutaway diagram of the Ark drawn in the Marvel Comics style instead, only colored yellow-gold as in the cartoon.

The Ark was destroyed in 2004 while Ratchet and Brawn countered a Decepticon attack headed by Starscream and Bruticus.
IDW Generation 1 comics
6.2 million meta-cycles ago, the first legendary vessel to be designated as the Ark was launched from Cybertron under the command of Nova Prime. Its stated mission was to plot a safe passage from the Cybertronian Quadrant of the galaxy through the Benzuli Expanse, though its true mission was Expansion. Twenty-thousand astro-cycles out, it disappeared with all hands lost. Over the eras following its loss, rumor, myth and legend sprang up around the ship, obscuring the few existing facts surrounding its fate. Spotlight: Optimus Prime Spotlight: Galvatron

Known passengers on this first Ark include:

* Nova Prime
* Galvatron
* Jhiaxus
* Cyclonus
* Grindcore
* Straxus

On his reappearance, Galvatron reveals that the ship disappeared after he intentionally piloted it directly into the anomaly within the Benzuli Expanse, which turned out to be a gateway to a region known as the Dead Universe. Spotlight: Galvatron

In the present day, the fate of the first Ark was one of the "big three" mysteries that Nightbeat liked to dig into in his free time. He eventually got a lead on possible remains of the ship, but it turned out to be a trap specifically set to draw him in. On Gorlam Prime he found wreckage of the correct type and age to come from the ship, and far beneath the surface, he discovered a vast inter-dimensional portal. Before he could dig into the mystery even more, he was overtaken by a strange group of Transformers who captured him and messed with his head, eventually erasing his memory of being there at all. Spotlight: Nightbeat

In the modern era, the Autobots utilized numerous ships designated "Ark", each distinguished by a number following the title. Among them were the Ark-12, Ark-17, Ark-19, Ark-27, and Ark-32.
:The first ever tangible representation of the Ark was a die-cast Titanium figurine at the 3-inch scale. The very forward section was based on the Ark's appearance in the original cartoon, but attached to it is an approximation of the back 2/3s of another space ship, the "Electronic Star Bird" created and sold by Milton Bradley in 1978. Odder yet, the technical information on the back refers to the Marvel Comics Ark's destruction at the hands of Fortress Maximus, and that Ark, as seen above, does not resemble either the cartoon Ark or this toy at all.

The very forward portion of the Titanium is removable, allowing for a more accurate toy. (The most iconic portion of the Ark, the rear engines which were often seen protruding from its rocky resting point on Earth, are not present due to placement of the attachment point.)
Beest is a distant planet inhabited by a race of anthropomorphic animals known as the Beastformers. Beest used to be a relatively peaceful planet, with dissenters few and generally quiet about their dissatisfaction with the planet's then-rulers, until the Transformers came to stir things up as they so often do, with each faction joining with their appropriate Beastformer counterparts.
Japanese cartoon continuity
The Headmasters cartoon
While out in space, the Autobots came into contact with two refugee Beastformers who had come to seek help. The Decepticons invaded planet Beest and helped the enemy forces of Alligatoron take control. The Autobots then assisted the good Beastformers, led by White Leo, to free planet Beest from Decepticon tyranny. Rebellion on Planet Beest

The Headmasters comic
Once again, the Decepticons teamed up with Alligatoron to take over planet Beest. The good Battle Beasts (now being aided by the wild jungle boy, Kane) sent for help from the Autobots, who arrived to help defeat the Decepticons and Alligatoron. Great Decisive Battle of Planet Beest!

Laser Beasts comic
The planet Beest was originally a wasteland, scoured by intense heat with no water or breathable atmosphere. When the Three Wise Men crash-landed there, they immediately moved underground and developed the vast subterranean empire of the Laser Beasts. 20014 years later, after hostilities between the Laser Beasts began to develop, a group of peaceful Laser Beasts traveled to the surface of Beest for the first time ever. They found the planet had changed drastically since the Three Wise Men founded their civilization, having become a jungle abundant with life. Meanwhile, a great flood wiped out the subterranean empire, leaving the remaining Laser Beasts to journey to the surface as well.

Encountering the Beastformers for the first time, the two Beast lifeforms immediately clashed in an all-out war which would decide the fate of planet Beest.

Dreamwave comic continuity
After being ejected out into deep space by Starscream, Megatron found himself on the planet Beest in the middle of the war of the Battle Beasts. Megatron became aware that the Predacons had taken refuge on Beest and proceeded to hunt them down. Welcome to the Jungle

G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers
It was likely consumed by Unicron, as natives of the planet are seen living within his body as mind-controlled "anti-bodies".

Notes
*The first official English interpretation of the planet's name appeared in the Dreamwave Summer Special, where it was referred to as "Planet Beest". Previously, the planet was simply spelled "Planet Beast" in most English episode guides written by fans, as no English version of the name had ever been officially released at the time. The Ark Compendiums use the more traditional spelling.
Flint Dille (born 1955) is a writer and story editor who wrote episodes for numerous Sunbow productions in the 1980s, including G.I. Joe, InHumanoids, Visionaries, and The Transformers. As a story editor on the original Transformers cartoon, he was responsible for approving and supervising the writing of scripts, as well as maintaining continuity, and also developed the origin of the Transformers (in one continuity, at least) in Five Faces of Darkness. He now primarily works in the video game industry, and recorded a DVD commentary for The Transformers: The Movie 20th Anniversary Edition with Susan Blu and Nelson Shin.

Trivia
* The "Quintesson origin" depicted in Five Faces of Darkness originates in Dille's rejected Transformers movie script, entitled The Secret of Cybertron.
* Although The Secret of Cybertron was rejected, a number of concepts from it made their way into the finished film, resulting in Dille's prominent story consultant credit.
* In Fire in the Sky, the Autobots are gunned down by Starscream before a commercial break, only to be revealed to be alive thanks to a hologram in the next act. Dille inserted the line "Thank heavens for that bogus plot device or we'd be finished" into the script, only to remove it as the episode was recorded.
* Dille once bailed Chris Latta out of jail. When questioned, Latta claimed to have been arrested for jaywalking. This apparently happened more than once and (Dille claims) was a main factor in phasing Starscream out of the series.
* Dille's favourite Transformer is Starscream.

Starscream animated his clones with his AllSpark fragment. Starscream thinks his fragment will bring all three online. The clones don't need one fragment of their own each. There is nothing to say the clones have their own fragment. - Starfield 20:56, 23 May 2009 (EDT)
:When Screamer's bringing his clones online during A bridge too close part 1, he's seen breaking off a small fragment of his own fragment, inserts it into Skywarp's empty spark conatiner, and Skywarp then comes online. Presumably, this is how he brought all of the clones online. They do have their own Allspark fragments... Very small ones, it seems, but they still do have them. --Ascendron 21:01, 23 May 2009 (EDT)

Starscream Supremes
This part was a bit odd, I'll admit, but it doesn't seem like a continuity error... To me, it doesn't even look like he was controlling them. When Lugnut was controlling the clones, it looks like he had to consciously convey every order to the Supremes... When Starscream "took over" he wasn't doing such thing... He was just flying around, and the clones were moving on their own accord... From what I can tell, it looks like Screamer slipped in a prerecorded message along with some sort of program to tell the clones to defend themselves, all the while heading for a specific location, along with those bombs. That's what I made of it. --Ascendron 14:25, 24 May 2009 (EDT)
:But that's the thing - Megatron COULDN'T DO THAT. He had to have Lugnut piped in because he didn't have the security patch, that wasn't the way he wanted to run them.
:And then Starscream pulls it off, not just without the security patch but without ANY of the codes - and thus without activating the clones to his own personality - gets them into an autonomous mode without so much as being piped in? Continuity error. - SanityOrMadness 14:36, 24 May 2009 (EDT)
::I personally like to think that Starscream is just more clever then Megatron is, so he figured something out Megatron couldn't... Or maybe there wasn't any additional security patches, the reason they couldn't get through was because of Screamer's meddling in the first place... But that's just me getting speculative. Personally, I'd like to wait for the WOG to clear this up a bit, if we ever get to ask them. But until someone official clears it up, all right, continuity error it is. --Ascendron 14:50, 24 May 2009 (EDT)
:::Cleverer than Megatron? Possibly. Cleverer than Shockwave? A lot less likely. - Magnus Maximus 14:55, 24 May 2009 (EDT)
:::: I dunno, personally, Screamer came off to me as pretty darn clever... And Shockwave seemed nearly fumble his own cover often... But this is really getting into the territory of "I like this character better personally, so he's clearly the most clever character!" so yeah... In either case, it's undeniable that Screamer has the most experience with cloning technology out of all of them. That could have given him the edge in this situation. Whatever the case may be, I'm not touching this until any new official information pops up. --Ascendron 15:05, 24 May 2009 (EDT)
Loose Ends
Not a super-strenuous objection, but I'm not quite sure what the point is of listing out all the uncaptured Decepticons / loose ends here. We don't do it elsewhere (I haven't checked EVERY series ender, but we don't do it for The Rebirth III of G1, Endgame III of Beast Machines or the last episode of Cybertron, finishing out the Unicron trilogy) which makes it seem out of place here. In fact, it's only because Animated is so tightly written that it's even possible - a list of the loose ends left over from The Rebirth would probably be about 40 screen lengths long. Keep in mind that while a 4th season is off the table, shows HAVE been known to come back with a direct-to-video special now and again, and there have been rumors of some sort of comic book continuation.

If we DO decide that this content is worth having somewhere, wouldn't it be best served on the overall franchise page? --98.149.157.5 19:39, 31 May 2009 (EDT)
