:''The Starscream clones are [[Decepticon]]s from the [[Transformers: Prime (cartoon)|Prime]] portion of the [[Aligned continuity family]].''

[[Image:Armada-clonessurroundMegatron.jpg|thumb|350px|As if one wasn't bad enough]]

A '''Starscream clone''' is one of an armada of physically [[cloning|identical copies]] of [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]]. They have all of his abilities (current and [[Transformation|former]]) with the added bonus of being extremely disposable. They also have all aspects of his personality, including his cunning and ambition. To make matters worse, any damage they sustain is felt by the original Starscream.

==Fiction==
===''Prime'' cartoon===
Searching for [[energon]] in the ''[[Harbinger]]'', Starscream stumbled on a laboratory containing five [[protoform]]s and the necessary equipment for him to clone himself. Before long, he had turned the protoforms into five exact copies of himself, albeit with working [[transformation cog|T-cog]]s, thanks to his genetic code. Starscream sent the five clones to eliminate [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]], and the quintet followed the ''Harbinger''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> tracking information to the ''[[Trypticon (Prime)|Nemesis]]'' where they split up.

One of the clones ran into [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]], who was merely after a way off the ship but ended up terminating the clone. The other four managed to lure Megatron to the bridge, where they surrounded him. Seeing how very well-played Starscream is, Megatron attempted to interest the clones in killing Starscream instead, in exchange for becoming [[second-in-command]], but the clones were unable to be swayed from their mission. It wasn't until an attack by [[Insecticon (Prime)|Insecticons]] caused a diversion that Megatron turned the tables, eliminating three of the clones. The fifth got away, escaping the ship and returning to the ''Harbinger'' with the intent of eliminating the original Starscream, only for his progenitor to blast him instead. {{storylink|Armada (episode)|Armada}}

Starscream took the T-cog of the clone, and began preparations to install it into himself. Starscream declared the procedure postponed when the ''Harbinger'''s computers detected the [[GroundBridge]] deployment of four different Decepticon detachments on four different continents at once and he decided to investigate. {{storylink|Triangulation}}
'''Airachnid and Starscream struggle to control an Insecticon warrior.'''

==Synopsis==
[[Image:Crossfire MECH finds Breakdown.jpg|thumb|left|250px|"Finally I can get ahead in this organization."]]
[[Airachnid (Prime)|Airachnid]] muses to [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]] about [[Soundwave (Prime)|Soundwave]]'s inevitable decryption of the [[Project Iacon|Iacon files,]] and requests for her tracking abilities to be enlisted in the search for the resulting coordinates. Megatron dismisses her, and Soundwave replays the audio of her suggestion to leave Megatron [[One Shall Rise, Part 2|earlier]]. He contacts [[Dreadwing (Prime)|Dreadwing]], who replies with an oath of loyalty. The leader orders him to perform a task he normally performs [[Rock Bottom|himself]], but now leaves to his first officer. The Seeker is confused, as Airachnid holds that position, but his mission becomes clear—he is to dispose of the treacherous spider.

[[Breakdown (Prime)|Breakdown]], Dreadwing, and Airachnid follow the trail of an unconfirmed [[energon]] deposit. Airachnid is amused at the heavy backup, and takes the opportunity to grill Breakdown on his lack of skill, and lack of eye. Dreadwing attempts to calm him, but another insult puts him into a frenzy. He jumps at the spider, but is webbed in the face. Dreadwing joins the fray, but is pinned to a tree by Airachnid's webbing, but not before he lets off a blast which collapses a tree on Airachnid, damaging one of her legs and forcing her to retreat. Breakdown gives chase, and finds her collapsed in a ravine, but as he raises his hammer to finish her, he is snagged by a webbing booby trap the renegade fembot has laid for him. Immobilized, Breakdown can do nothing to stop Airachnid from slicing him to pieces. She leaves his remains behind, which are presently discovered by a contingent of [[MECH]] soldiers.

[[Image:Crossfire Starscream and Airachnid plot.jpg|thumb|right|250px|"This is going to be awesome! With this Insecticon we can off Megatron and take over the whole thing!" "Insecticon, eat him."]]
In a cave, [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] pities his lot in life as he jumps for a meager scrap of energon. He is interrupted by a nearby rumbling that surprises him—it is an [[Insecticon (Prime)|Insecticon]], unearthing a large chunk of energon. He orders the brute to hand it over, but it attacks him, forcing him to hide. He witnesses the Insecticon bowing to another surprise—Airachnid. He makes himself known, and she makes her rogue status known, giving Starscream the idea to propose an alliance to overthrow Megatron with the help of her oversized herald. She proposes an alternative—she overthrows Megatron, and Starscream dies. She orders the Insecticon to kill him.

At the base, [[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]] receives another [[Orion Pax, Part 2|high frequency signal with an embedded message,]] again from Starscream, who promises valuable intel in exchange for medical aid. His intel proves none-too-relevant until he mentions the Insecticon, and provides Airachnid's location. Back at base, [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]] berates Ratchet and [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] for letting him go again, but [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus]] is confident in sparing helpless lifeforms, regardless of personal vendettas.

[[Image:Crossfire Optimus aims at Megatron.jpg|thumb|left|250px|"One shall stand, one sha-oh, wait, too late."]]
Airachnid contacts Megatron and proposes a challenge, which he accepts, forbidding Dreadwing to follow him. Making his way to the mine, the Decepticon leader is immediately assaulted by the Insecticon, who ignores Megatron's orders to stand down and begins to beat him down. Though he does not initially fare well, it does not take long for the former gladiator to put himself on equal footing with the beast. The Autobots bridge in, and Arcee goes for Airachnid, chasing her off into the adjoining tunnels while the other Autobots watch as Megatron triumphs over the Insecticon, tearing off its limbs and head. The Autobots surround Megatron as he falls, exhausted. Prime mulls over the idea of ending his life when suddenly, Dreadwing and a large detachment of [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicons]] descend into the cavern. Prime agrees to trade the Autobots' lives for Megatron's, but once the trade is made, Megatron orders the Vehicons to attack, and departs with Dreadwing, noting his appreciation for Dreadwing's disregard of orders.

[[Image:Crossfire Airachnid strings up Arcee.jpg|thumb|right|250px|"I saw you hanging around and thought I'd wrap things up."]]
Arcee, meanwhile, follows Airachnid, but finds herself suddenly stuck in a trap. As her nemesis prepares to finish her, a missile streaks through the air and pushes Airachnid off Arcee. She escapes as Starscream—intent on payback—continues to fire. Now alone with Arcee, the Seeker recalls her decision to spare him earlier, and in returning the favor, he cuts her free from Airachnid'a trap and leaves her be rescued by the Autobots, declaring themselves even.

Underground, even as she swears her vengeance, Airachnid comes upon the source of her warrior—an entire nest of Insecticons.

==Notes==
=== Animation and technical errors ===
*When Bulkhead jumps out of the GroundBridge with Ratchet following behind, the wrecking ball on his left arm somehow transforms silently back to his hand.
*When the Insecticon throws Megatron into the air and slashes at him with its horn, it injures his shoulder and Energon is splattered from the wound. When Megatron recovers, the injury appears on his neck instead.
*When Megatron switches to his vehicle mode, the webbing on his cannon disappears. If this was intentional, why not just do it to fight off the Autobots?

===Continuity errors===
*Soundwave's trace of Airachnid's signal appears to locate her around about Bolivia, while the Autobot trace of the same signal places it on the north coast of [[South America]], in Guyana or Suriname.
*Megatron's blood/energon is colored blue when [[Stronger, Faster|it's been]] [[One Shall Fall|shown previously]] [[One Shall Rise, Part 1|to be purple]]. [[Darkness Rising, Part 4|He said so himself!]]
*Starscream's missiles reappear on his arms after he fires them.
*Bulkhead's remark that Starscream helped MECH steal Bumblebee's T-cog isn't entirely accurate, as MECH had already stolen Bumblebee's T-cog before Starscream had formed the alliance, in fact if Bumblebee hadn't arrived at the trap first it would have been Starscream who would have his T-cog stolen as he also was lured to the trap.

===Continuity notes===
*Arcee reminds the team yet again of how Airachnid took [[Tailgate (Prime)|Tailgate]] away from her, as well as how Starscream was responsible for [[Cliffjumper (Prime)|Cliffjumper's]] demise.
*Starscream hasn't forgotten how Arcee let him live after their last encounter from "[[Partners]]".
*Soundwave plays dialogue from "[[One Shall Rise, Part 2]]" to remind Megatron what Airachnid thinks of him.
*MECH comes across the dismembered remains of Breakdown, and cites it as a "[[Operation: Breakdown|familiar face]]".
*Starscream contacts Ratchet the same way he did back in "[[Orion Pax, Part 2]]", and meets him and Bulkhead in what appears to be the same place. Both he and Bulkhead even reference the events of that episode. Arcee seems to have learned about it as well.
*The events of the two-part episode "[[Operation Bumblebee, Part 1|Operation Bumblebee]]" are brought up while Starscream begs for treatment.
*The "task" Megatron normally performs himself—the disposal of treacherous soldiers—previously occurred in "[[Rock Bottom]]", where Starscream was the recipient.
*Megatron refers to his skills and training as a Kaon gladiator.
* Despite Optimus's speech about it being wrong to terminate a defenseless lifeform like Starscream, he was more than willing to eliminate Megatron when he was in a similar position. Clearly, he still stands by his comment of [[One Shall Rise, Part 2|the option of extinguishing Megatron's spark still being in play]].

===Real-world references===
*When Megatron contacts Dreadwing about him killing Airachnid and taking her place as Megatron's 1st lieutenant, Dreadwing picks up and cocks what appears to be a stormtrooper rifle from the Star Wars movies.

===Trivia===
*Starscream's arm-mounted missiles still work even with his T-Cog missing, since there's no transformation involved in firing them.
*The Decepticons really didn't do a good job in stripping that mine, considering all the Insecticon had to do was push away a couple of rocks to find a huge clump of energon in the wall.
Arcee, meanwhile, follows Airachnid, but finds herself suddenly stuck in a trap. As her nemesis prepares to finish her, a missile streaks through the air and pushes Airachnid off Arcee. She escapes as Starscream—intent on payback—continues to fire. Now alone with Arcee, the Seeker recalls her decision to spare him earlier, and in returning the favor, he cuts her free from Airachnid'a trap, declaring themselves even.

Underground, even as she swears her vengeance, Airachnid comes upon the source of her warrior—an entire nest of Insecticons.
==Notes==

===Continuity errors===

===Continuity notes===

===Real-world references===
*When Megatron contacts Dreadwing about him killing Airachnid and taking her place as Megatron's 1st lieutenant, Dreadwing picks up and cocks what appears to be a stormtrooper rifle from the Star Wars movies.

===Trivia===
[[Image:Prehistory-Autobots vs Decepticons.jpg|left|thumb|250px|During the war, Megatron was the big thing on Cybertron.]]

Millions of years ago, the civil war on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] reached a bloody stalemate as both [[Autobot]]s and [[Decepticon]]s augmented their forces with a race of small power-enhancing Transformers known as the [[Mini-Con|Mini-Cons]]. Realising that they were only making the conflict worse, the Mini-Cons made a pact with the Autobots to leave the planet in a [[Exodus (Armada)|starship]], {{storylink|Prehistory}} but Megatron struck as the tiny 'bots were leaving, attacking with the full force of the Decepticon fleet in an attempt to capture all the Mini-Cons in one fell swoop. The damaged Mini-Con ship warped away, and crash-landed on the planet [[Earth]]. {{storylink|First Encounter}} Alas, the Mini-Cons' absence did not abate the war; in one battle among the many that followed, Megatron discovered the abandoned Autobot [[Wheeljack (Armada)|Wheeljack]] pinned by rubble in the midst of an inferno, and saved his life in exchange for his loyalty. {{storylink|Past}}

[[Image:Armada Megatron FirstEncounter surprise.jpg|right|250px|thumb|What the hell does he turn into?]]

In the year 2010, Megatron led a small team of his Decepticons to Earth when a signal beacon from the planet reached Cybertron, alerting the Transformers to the reawakening of the Mini-Cons. Megatron was first on the scene, warping directly to the signal's point of origin, where he discovered that one of the Mini-Cons, [[High Wire (Armada)|High Wire]], had befriended three human children. Before Megatron could seize the Mini-Con for his own, his arch-enemy [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] appeared to stop him. {{storylink|First Encounter}} Megatron and Optimus battled, with the rest of their troops arriving to join the fight, but eventually, the Decepticon leader called for a strategic retreat. The Decepticon forces withdrew to Earth's [[moon (moon)|moon]] to investigate the shorn-off portion of the Mini-Con ship that had landed there, which they quickly repurposed as their base of operations; amid the lunar dust, Megatron discovered and activated a [[Mini-Con storage panel]] that was revealed to contain his old Mini-Con partner, [[Leader-1 (Armada)|Leader-1]]. With the added power of a Mini-Con now giving him an edge over the Autobots, Megatron had his forces reconfigure their vehicle modes—with Megatron himself adopting a tank form—and led them back to Earth to gather more. The Decepticons immediately targeted the three human children from before, who had since awoken the entire [[Street Action Mini-Con Team (Armada)|Street Action Mini-con Team]], but the timely arrival of Optimus Prime and the other Autobots thwarted their plans. {{storylink|Metamorphosis}} In the battle that followed, Megatron actually had trouble controlling the increased firepower Leader-1 bestowed upon him, and when Autobots [[Red Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]] and [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]] gained Mini-Cons of their own, he called retreat. [[Cyclonus (Armada)|Cyclonus]] was able to obtain two Mini-Cons himself, however, and Megatron granted one to his most loyal subordinate, [[Demolishor (Armada)|Demolishor]], infuriating the younger warrior [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]]. {{storylink|Base}}

[[Image:Base megatron robot mode.jpg|left|thumb|250px]]

When a Mini-Con was detected in the [[Grand Canyon]], Megatron and the Decepticons made a play for it that met with failure. {{storylink|Comrade}} After sending his troops to recover the next Mini-Con while he stayed in their moonbase, only to have them meet with failure, {{storylink|Soldier (episode)|Soldier}} Megatron accompanied his men again on the next hunt, intending to take this Mini-Con for himself so Starscream would still be without one. When the Autobots intervened, Megatron was unable to stop Starscream from obtaining the prize for himself. {{storylink|Jungle}} This put Megatron in a foul(er) mood, and he took it out on Demolishor when the underling nearly stepped on Leader-1. {{storylink|Carnival}} Demolishor redeemed himself when Megatron later led the Decepticons in battle in the [[Sahara]], successfully retrieving a Mini-Con which Megatron then forced him to hand over to him. {{storylink|Palace}}

[[Image:Underground megatron tankmode.jpg|right|thumb|250px]]

Megatron next attempted to strike at the Autobots through their human friends, arranging for their capture so that he could ransom them for the Autobots' Mini-Cons. Immediately reneging on the deal once the Mini-Cons were in his clutches, Megatron ordered Leader-1 to destroy the children, but when the Mini-Con hesitated in response to [[Fred (Armada)|Fred]]'s pleas, Megatron was distracted long enough for the Autobots to turn the tables and send him packing. {{storylink|Confrontation (episode)|Confrontation}} This moment of hesitation did not break Megatron's trust in his little minion, though, as soon after, he had Leader-1 search a human sewer system when his own large tank mode made manoeuvring beneath the city streets too difficult. {{storylink|Underground}} Later still, while searching for a Mini-Con in the ruins of an underwater civilization, Leader-1 unlocked Megatron's "Full Blast Mode" for the first time, and then found the Mini-Con panel while his master was busy battling Optimus Prime. {{storylink|Ruin}}

[[Image:Confrontation megs and leader1.jpg|left|thumb|250px]]

The Mini-Con recovered from the ruins by Leader-1 initially refused to awaken from its panel, but following another failed hunt on a volcanic island, Megatron redoubled his efforts, and successfully roused [[Sonar (Armada)|Sonar]] from his slumber. {{storylink|Prehistory}} Realizing that Sonar was one of the three Mini-Cons who together formed the legendary [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber]] sword, Megatron led his Decepticons in an invasion of the Autobot base to steal the other two, personally facing down Hot Shot and Optimus Prime at the same time. Sonar awakened his team-mates and they formed the Star Saber in Megatron's hands, but no sooner was the sword complete than Optimus Prime blasted it from Megatron's grip. With the sword now in Hot Shot's hands, Megatron was forced to retreat before its power. {{storylink|Swoop (episode)|Swoop}}

Deciding to contract some outside help, Megatron hired the mercenary [[Scavenger (Armada)|Scavenger]] from whom he learned of the existence of the [[Skyboom (Armada)|Skyboom Shield]]. {{storylink|Overmatch}} The Autobots soon got a new member of their own when the drifter [[Sideways (RID)|Sideways]] helped foiled Megatron's digging operation to unearth the newest Mini-Con, {{storylink|Gale}} but Sideways soon proved to be more than he seemed when he betrayed Hot Shot, stole the Star Saber for Megatron and joined the Decepticons. {{storylink|Credulous}} [[Image:Conspiracy megatron starsaber.jpg|right|thumb|250px]] The Star Saber wound up in Starscream's hands, but rather than provoke open rebellion by taking it from him by force, Megatron had Leader-1 trick Starscream into accidentally attacking Demolishor with the blade. This led the other Decepticons to question Starscream's competency with the sword, and they forced him to hand it over to Megatron. {{storylink|Conspiracy}} With the Star Saber now his to command, Megatron brought the sword to bear in his next battle with Optimus Prime, during which the Autobot leader hurled them both into a crevasse. Megatron plummeted to the bottom while Optimus was grabbed out of the air by Scavenger, revealed to have been an Autobot spy all along. Hauled out by Sideways, the injured Megatron ordered retreat, swearing vengeance on all. {{storylink|Trust (Armada)|Trust}} Once back up to full strength, Megatron decided to take out his frustrations by announcing it was time for some one-on-one Decepticon combat training, and wound up chasing Sideways around the moon with the Star Saber. {{storylink|Vacation}}

[[Image:Vow Megatron fullblastmode.jpg|left|thumb|250px|]]

Sword still in hand, Megatron led the Decepticon effort to obtain the final Mini-Con that formed the Skyboom Shield, succeeding despite the presence of the newest Autobot [[Blurr (Armada)|Blurr]]. {{storylink|Reinforcement}} With both Star Saber and Skyboom now his, Megatron challenged Optimus Prime to a decisive battle in the desert. The combat was fierce, but finally, Prime was able to wrest the shield from Megatron's grasp, and when the two weapons collided, and incredible burst of energy was released that shot off into space. {{storylink|Decisive Battle}} Despite this failure, Megatron was quick to orchestrate another confrontation with Prime, this time separating him from the other Autobots by randomly warping each of the heroes to different sites of past battles. Facing off against Prime in the Sahara again, Megatron employed a legion of Mini-Cons to attack the Autobot leader, correctly gambling that he would not fight back against the small 'bots. What he did not expect, however, was that Prime's reluctance to fight would prompt the Mini-Cons to turn on ''him'', keeping him occupied until the other Autobots arrived, forcing him to withdraw. {{storylink|Vow}}
[[Image:Rebellion megatron vs starscream.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Falcon PUNCH]]
Convinced that Megatron's flawed leadership was the reason behind the recent string of Decepticon failures, Sideways decided to play Megatron and Starscream off against one another in order to change the game. When the Decepticons returned after another failed battle, Megatron began brutalizing Starscream for his failings (despite the fact that Starscream had been following his orders), and might have even killed him if Demolishor had not intervened. Taking this as his cue, Sideways began to plant notions of leadership in Starscream's head, while challenging Megatron's pride with the allegation that his position as commander was only secure thanks to possession of the Star Saber. Sideways's machinations culminated in Starscream challenging Megatron to a duel for leadership, with a nonchalant Megatron so certain of his victory that he even wagered the Star Saber on the fight's outcome. Unfortunately for Starscream, Megatron's prognostication proved accurate, and he violently and resoundingly defeated his lieutenant with his bare hands, not even deigning to use the Saber. At the last moment, Megatron spared Starscream's life, preferring instead to let him live with the knowledge that he knew his weaknesses: he had a conscience. His position as leader reaffirmed by the outcome of the clash, Megatron led the Decepticons into battle against the Autobots soon after with renewed vigor and morale. {{storylink|Rebellion}}
[[Image:Linkup megatron throne.jpg|left|thumb|250px]]
With most dastardly thing he managed to accomplish in his next few battles consisting of stepping on [[Laserbeak (Armada)|Laserbeak]] when he fell out of the sky, {{storylink|Chase (episode)|Chase}} Megatron was soon to summon the master Decepticon tactician [[Thrust (Armada)|Thrust]] to Earth in an effort give his campaign a shot in the arm. The plan Thrust concocted gave Megatron a clear shot at Optimus Prime that would have succeeded in taking the Autobot leader's life, if not for the sudden arrival of [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] on Earth. {{storylink|Tactician}} Prime did not escape unscathed, however, and Megatron and Thrust took the opportunity to lure the remaining Autobots into a trap to make a play for the Skyboom Shield. Megatron was in the process of trying to wrestle the shield away from Smokescreen when Optimus appeared and revealed his power to combine with Jetfire, forcing the Decepticons to flee before his power. {{storylink|Linkup}} Soon after, Thrust implicated Sideways as the disruptive element that was prevent the Decepticons from working together as best they could, and Megatron tracked the mysterious 'bot down, catching him in the act of reporting his misdeeds to an unknown higher power. Furious, Megatron cut the traitor to pieces with the Star Saber, only for Sideways's remains to restore themselves immediately, allowing him to escape with the haunting warning that he could never be destroyed. {{storylink|Detection}}
[[Image:Desperatemegatron.jpg|right|thumb|250px|A BOAT'S ON ME.]]
Megatron was not initially impressed with the newest addition to the Decepticon ranks, [[Tidal Wave (Armada)|Tidal Wave]], {{storylink|Awakening}} but soon changed his tune when the monolithic Decepticon revealed he had the power to combine with Megatron, giving the Decepticon leader a dramatic power boost. Battling with the combined Prime and Jetfire in the sky, the powered-up Megatron slashed the merged Autobots apart with the Star Saber, sending Prime into a potentially fatal plummet, only for him to be saved by the newly-awakened Mini-Cons that formed the third and final weapon, the [[Requiem Blaster (Armada)|Requiem Blaster]]. {{storylink|Desperate}} After receiving some repairs {{storylink|Runaway}} and adding Wheeljack to his forces, {{storylink|Past II}} Megatron led a second attack on the Autobot base to steal the Requiem Blaster, successfully obtaining the weapon and killing Smokescreen with it. Unfortunately, part of the plan to access the Autobot base involved using an unwitting Starscream as a distraction, {{storylink|Sacrifice}} and that betrayal of trust proved to be the last straw for the young Decepticon, leading him to make an attempt on Megatron's life. Outnumbered and facing the power of the Requiem Blaster, Starscream fled to Earth with the Star Saber, where the Autobots granted him sanctuary. {{storylink|Regeneration}}
[[Image:Rescue megatron leader1 gun.jpg|left|thumb|250px]]
Using information provided by Starscream, the Autobots soon invaded the Decepticon base to free the captive Mini-Cons. Leaving his troops to fight, Megatron relocated himself to watch over the Mini-Cons personally, who by this stage he had put to work constructing a spacecraft for the Decepticons. When [[Perceptor (Armada)|Perceptor]] arrived to bravely face him down, the Mini-Cons began to sing an eerie harmony and turned on Megatron, with even Leader-1 attempting to escape his perch on Megatron's arm. Fortunately, Hot Shot intervened before Megatron could obliterate the Mini-Cons, leading him a merry chase across the moon while the other Autobots got the little 'bots to safety and double-teaming with Starscream to take the Decepticon commander down. {{storylink|Rescue}} Infuriated by this loss, Megatron found new hope in Thrust's latest discovery: as had been previously evinced by the meeting of the Star Saber and Skyboom, the uniting of the Requiem Blaster with the other two weapons could potentially produce incredibly destructive energy. To test this hypothetical, Megatron took the Requiem Blaster to confront Jetfire and Starscream, wielding the Skyboom and Saber at the time, when they were attempting to recover a Mini-Con on [[Mars (planet)|Mars]]. The release of energy that resulted was enough to knock Megatron out, allowing his two opponents to escape, but the theory had been proven. {{storylink|Mars (episode)|Mars}}
[[Image:Crisis megatron vs prime.jpg|right|thumb|250px]]
Through the machinations of Thrust, Starscream's alliance with the Autobots was shattered, and he stole the Skyboom and returned to the Decepticon fold. {{storylink|Crack (episode)|Crack}} The three Mini-Cons weapons were combined to create the planet-destroying [[Hydra Cannon]], which was mounted on the bow on the Decepticons' new spaceship. {{storylink|Threaten}} As a test of loyalty, Megatron charged Starscream with pressing the fateful button that would vaporize Earth and the Autobots, but before the weapon was in alignment, Optimus Prime and Jetfire attacked the ship. Megatron battled with Prime on the hull of the craft, forcing him to watch as the cannon was fired at Earth, but at the last second, Prime broke free of Megatron's hold and threw himself in front of the beam, blocking it with the power of his [[Matrix of Leadership]]. This action also claimed Prime's life, and Megatron watched, stunned, as his eternal enemy disintegrated into space dust. {{storylink|Crisis}} Prime's death plunged Megatron into a deep depression, having lost his greatest opponent without the chance to finish him with his own hands. Distractedly, he ordered his forces to begin their return to Cybertron, {{storylink|Remorse}} but when the Autobots launched a ship of their own in pursuit, {{storylink|Depart}} Megatron ordered an about-face, hoping to shake his discomforting sense of loss in battle. An entirely different resolution to his misery was offered, however, when during the battle, the Mini-Cons of Earth entered the Matrix and resurrected Prime, who immediately blasted Megatron, prompting merely gleeful laughter from the Decepticon. {{storylink|Miracle}}
[[Image:Uprising galvatron weapons.jpg|left|thumb|250px]]
An even greater change was soon to come over Megatron—following a group of Autobots through a black hole to a dead planet, eager to continue the fight, Megatron ''thought'' he was engaging Optimus Prime once again, only to quickly discover he was facing a twisted doppleganger named [[Nemesis Prime (Armada)|Nemesis Prime]]. Helpless before his power, Megatron, Starscream, Demolishor, Hot Shot and Red Alert would have been destroyed if not for their partner Mini-Cons, who combined their strength to give the larger Transformers a power boost, [[spontaneous recoloration|fusing their armor into new colors]] in the process. Rechristening himself "Galvatron", Megatron joined the Requiem Blaster with Optimus Prime's new [[Overload (Armada)|Overload]] weapons systems to destroy Nemesis Prime, then crippled the Autobots' ship with the blaster so the Decepticons could escape and beat them back to Cybertron. {{storylink|Puppet}}
[[Image:Cramp galvatron tidalwave.jpg|right|thumb|250px]]
With the power of the Mini-Con weapons, Galvatron and his men had no trouble taking control of the planet, but when Optimus's Autobots caught up to them, Galvatron was surprised to find that combat was not his enemy's concern: instead, Optimus spoke of the approach of [[Unicron]], a great enemy he had been warned of by the Mini-Cons, and proposed an alliance between Autobot and Decepticon against him. Galvatron refused, dismissing Unicron's very existence as an Autobot trick, {{storylink|Uprising}} but was soon forced to rethink his position when Thrust revealed himself to be a servant of Unicron's and stole the Requiem Blaster and Skyboom Shield to begin his master's resurrection. {{storylink|Dash (episode)|Dash}} Galvatron dedicated the whole of the Decepticons' manpower into locating Thrust, {{storylink|Drift (episode)|Drift}} while grimly ruminating on the unwelcome implications of an alliance: that the war he had spent his whole life fighting would have meant nothing. Even when Unicron's existence was definitively proven by the revelation he had been posing as Cybertron's moon, this fear led Galvatron to deny the magnitude of his threat. {{storylink|Portent}}
[[Image:Cramp galvatron vs starscream.jpg|left|thumb|250px]]
Having spent time in Optimus's camp and realising that an alliance under his leadership was the only way forward, Starscream pleaded with Galvatron to accept Prime's offer, but his refusal was steadfast, forcing Starscream to intervene in a later battle between Prime and Galvatron in an attempt to convince his commander by force. In the duel that resulted, Galvatron fatally ran Starscream through with the Star Saber, but with this last breath, Starscream struck against Unicron, and was utterly obliterated as a result. Reached by the sacrifice of his subordinate and the physical proof of Unicron's threat, Galvatron accepted the truth of Starscream's words and handed the Star Saber over to Prime as a symbol of their alliance. Alas, at the last moment, Sideways appeared to snatch it away, using it to complete Unicron's reawakening, much to both Optimus and Galvatron's discomfort. {{storylink|Cramp}}

Following Starscream's demise and the Star Saber theft, Galvatron explains Starscream's intentions to the Decepticons, stating that they ought to ally with the Autobots in order to destroy Unicron for good. In a formal ceremony before all their troops, Prime and Galvatron shook hands, uniting the Autobots and Decepticons into an armada that struck at Unicron together. {{storylink|Alliance}} They were quick to discover that their forces were unable to damage the dark god's exterior, so Optimus Prime and Galvatron decided to venture inside his body; [[Image:MortalCombat galvatron sacrifice.jpg|right|thumb|250px]] before doing so, Galvatron confronted Thrust over his treachery on Unicron's shoulder, and left him to die when his clumsiness caused him to be caught in one of Unicron's joints and crushed. {{storylink|Union}} Once inside Unicron, Galvatron and Optimus worked their way to the chamber containing Unicron's "heart", where they were captured by the chaos-bringer and absorbed into his being, becoming one with his consciousness. In this dream-realm, Galvatron saw himself as the ruler of the universe, but the illusion was soon shattered when the Autobots' human allies were able to free the Mini-Con weapons from Unicron's hold, de-powering him. As they all tried to escape Unicron's dormant body, however, Galvatron challenged Optimus Prime to one final duel. {{storylink|Origin}} The sheer ferocity of their final clash reawakened Unicron, and he began drawing in everything nearby. With Optimus Prime holding on to him to stop him being sucked in, Galvatron saw that the only way to end the circle was to destroy himself. Sacrificing his life rather than live in an era of peace, Galvatron cut himself free from Prime's grip and plunged into Unicron's maw. With the flow of negative energy created by their fight gone, Unicron disappeared in a flash, he and Galvatron having seemingly ceased to exist. {{storylink|Mortal Combat}}
Although he was believed dead by both the Autobots and Decepticons, Galvatron, like Unicron, had survived the final battle. His body was now a decayed husk, having been absorbed into the equally damaged body of Unicron, where it lay for ten years. {{storylink|Cybertron City (episode)|Cybertron City}} In the year [[2020]], when the alien being known as [[Alpha Quintesson|Alpha Q]] began his plan to re-energize Unicron, he desired to rally the Decepticons—still allied with the Autobots—to his cause with the promise that Megatron would be returned to them. As proof of their leader's continued existence, Alpha Q ''forged an [[Energon Sword]] from Megatron's [[spark]], which pulsed with his evil essence,'' and convinced both Decepticons and Autobots alike that Megatron still lived. {{storylink|Megatron's Sword}}
As Alpha Q's [[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcons]] continued to steal [[Energon]] from the Autobots' mining operations on Earth, Galvatron saw his opportunity, siphoning off some of the fuel to fashion a new body for himself. Realising what he was up to, Alpha Q instructed his lieutenant [[Scorponok (Energon)|Scorponok]] to destroy Galvatron, but Scorponok's choice of execution method left much to be desired: he stabbed Megatron's corpse through the spark with the Energon Sword, which only served to return the Decepticon leader's full power. Galvatron absorbed the sword into himself, burst free in his new form and became Megatron again, immediately beating Scorponok to within an inch of his life and forcing him into his service. He proceeded to take over Unicron's body, sending Alpha Q fleeing in Unicron's head, and took up his campaign to gather Energon from Earth to reactivate Unicron, whom he would use as the ultimate weapon. {{storylink|Megatron Resurrected}}
For his first strike, Megatron attacked [[Plains City]], dismembering [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]] and allowing the other Autobots to leave in peace so that he could harvest the city's Energon. Empowered by an [[Energon star]] made from the gathered mineral, Megatron then led an assault on [[Ocean City]], where he taunted the conflicted [[Demolishor (Armada)|Demolishor]] into returning to the Decepticon side. Engaging in his first battle in his new form with [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]], Megatron's sword gave him the upper hand, but he was forced to withdraw when the [[Omnicon]]s armed the Autobots with numerous copies of the sword that they had created. {{storylink|Megatron Raid}}

Planning to raid [[Lunar City]] for Energon, Megatron was surprised to witness a moonscape battle between Optimus Prime and [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]], who had been brought back to life without his memories by Alpha Q, and felt the power of Optimus's new [[Energon Blaster]] firsthand. {{storylink|Starscream the Mysterious Mercenary}} [[Image:EnergonTower new sword.jpg|right|thumb|250px]] Turning his attention to mastering the powers of Unicron, Megatron was able to "spawn" a [[Decepticon mobile fortress|mobile base]] for the Decepticons from Unicron's substance, which they used to plunder the remains of [[Asteroid City]]. When no Energon could be found, Megatron took a party back to Lunar City to pillage it while Scorponok kept the Autobots busy in the asteroid belt. But when he returned to find that Scorponok had been captured, Megatron blew up the mobile base to cover the Decepticons' escape. {{storylink|Battle of the Asteroid Belt}} Energon from [[Mars City]] allowed Megatron to produce another base in short order, and, frustrated by the Autobots' continued use of their copies of his sword, he also used Unicron's power to upgrade his blade into a more powerful form. He then led another attack on Ocean City, but was forced to retreat by the activation of the first of the Autobots' new [[Energon tower]] defense systems. {{storylink|Energon Tower}}
When Alpha Q sent Starscream to assassinate Megatron, the Decepticon leader revealed he had become fully joined with Unicron's unearthly powers, using them to disappear, reappear, multiply himself, and psychically assault Starscream, wiping Alpha Q's directives from his mind and reprogramming him as a loyal Decepticon. {{storylink|The Legend of Rodimus}} Following an attack on [[Jungle City]] that failed when the Autobots blew up the city rather than let Megatron's forces have its Energon, {{storylink|Crisis in Jungle City}} the Decepticon leader learned of the Energon-finding powers of the Autobots' human ally, [[Kicker Jones]], and attempted to capture him in another battle on the Moon, but was once again driven off by the activation of an Energon tower. {{storylink|Kicker Beware!}} Seeking to take out the Autobots before the towers were complete, Megatron spawned a barrage of "comets" from Unicron and hurled them to Earth, but the final tower was completed and the protective [[Energon grid]] they generated shielded Earth from the comets' impact. Realizing that Alpha Q had been monitoring his actions and that Scorponok was acting as the alien's mole in his ranks, Megatron bound the Terrorcon commander to an asteroid and hurled him into Earth's Energon grid, hoping to force Alpha Q to come out hiding to save him. {{storylink|Rodimus Friend or Foe?}} Instead, it was long-lost Autobot commander [[Rodimus (Energon)|Rodimus]] who saved Scorponok and defeated Megatron in battle. Soon after, Megatron tried to stop the Autobots from leaving the [[Solar System]] aboard the ''[[Miranda II]]'', and was saved from being destroyed by the ship's Energon grid by Demolishor, who sacrificed himself in his leader's place. {{storylink|Go for Unicron!}} Recovering Demolishor's [[spark]], Megatron used Unicron's powers to create a new body for him, wiping his mind in the process. Amid the chaos, Optimus Prime arrived to face off with Megatron for a final battle, ''but when Shockblast interfered and spoiled the drama of the moment,'' Megatron elected to table the fight for another day, and fled through the rift with his Decepticons. {{storylink|Ripped Up Space}}
''Discovering that the Energon sun was, in fact, Unicron's own disembodied head, Megatron shifted his plans around, focusing his attacks on the foundling planets outside the reach of the system's Energon grid, starting with [[Planet Q]]. {{storylink|Return! [[Image:Megatron-In-Super-Energon.jpg|right|thumb|250px]]
A short time later, Megatron returned to attack a Cybertron at peace, and was subliminally guided by Unicron to a reservoir of [[Super Energon]] beneath the planet's surface. {{storylink|Ambition}} After recruiting two of the reservoir's guardians, [[Bruticus Maximus (Energon)|Bruticus Maximus]] and [[Constructicon Maximus]], to his side, Megatron immersed himself in the powerful liquid and underwent another power boost, accompanied by a spontaneous recoloration. He was once again inspired to take the name of Galvatron. Galvatron proceeded to test his new might in a battle with the Autobots, which ended when green [[Energon gas]]—harmless to the Decepticons, but poisonous to the Autobots—flooded the surface of Cybertron from a damaged Energon tower, forcing the heroic robots to depart the planet. {{storylink|Wishes}}

[[Image:Wishes galvatron.jpg|left|thumb|250px]]

Now in control of Cybertron, Galvatron met with his newest recruit, Shockblast's brother [[Six Shot]], who proposed using the Energon towers to propel the planet through space. Urged to do so by Unicron, Galvatron ordered Cybertron moved into Alpha Q's universe, but was quick to lose patience with the newbie when Six Shot opened fire on the ''Miranda II'' without orders, seeking to destroy Optimus Prime (mistakenly believing that it was he who killed his brother). {{storylink|Galvatron!}} Soon after, when the Autobots were able to return to Cybertron's surface, Galvatron engaged them in battle, but Six Shot's continued insubordination served to infuriate him further when he unleashed more Energon gas that sent the Autobots fleeing into the planet's depths. {{storylink|Break Through}} As his troops gave chase, Galvatron elected to remain in the control room to keep a close eye on Six Shot as he used the Energon grid to clear space debris out of Cybertron's path, but even this didn't stop the young punk from defying orders and turning the grid on Optimus Prime when he got a chance. This prompted Galvatron to smack him around for abandoning his appointed task, inadvertently saving Prime's life. {{storylink|The Omega Train}} In response, Six Shot promised not to do anything at all any more—a promise he fulfilled quite literally when Galvatron engaged Optimus Prime in battle sooner after and received only silence in response to his command to fire the Energon grid at Prime. {{storylink|Decepticon Army}} Galvatron was apoplectic when Six Shot demanded an apology before he returned to work, which Starscream offered in his lord's place.
[[Image:DestructivePower galvatron vehiclemode.jpg|right|thumb|250px]]

Cybertron soon emerged into Alpha Q's realm, where Galvatron watched, amazed, as Optimus Prime called upon the power of Primus to grow to planet-size and halt Cybertron's movement with his bare hands. Galvatron commanded Six Shot to increase the Energon towers' output, but this resulted in them exploding, {{storylink|Formidable}} which Galvatron blamed and bludgeoned Six Shot for. Six Shot decided to make a play for the Super Energon, and Galvatron pursued him back to the reservoir, where the Decepticon leader immersed himself in the pool for a second time. This exposure caused Galvatron to grow to a colossal height, and he promptly killed Six Shot by grinding him beneath his heel. {{storylink|Galvatron Terror}} Still growing even larger, Galvatron found his mind and body again taken over by Unicron, who had him take off into space to [[Image:TheSun galvatron possessed.jpg|left|thumb|250px|Lather, rinse, and repeat for 52 episodes.]] recombine with his still-living spark, dragging Cybertron behind him on a Super Energon tether. Once the Autobots cut the tether, {{storylink|Destructive Power}} Optimus Prime channelled the power of Unicron as well, growing to Galvatron's height and forcing him into a battle on Jungle Planet, gambling that Galvatron's hatred of him would allow his consciousness to supercede Unicron's control. Prime wagered correctly, and the two combatants grew to even ''more'' gigantic heights for a devastating brawl. Getting in close, Prime was able to drain Unicron's consciousness out of Galvatron and seal it within himself, restoring both of them to their normal size and power. {{storylink|Spark (episode)|Spark}}

So enraged was he by Unicron's manipulations, Galvatron forewent finishing off the wounded Optimus Prime and instead took off to destroy Unicron's spark. Instead, however, he wound up being possessed by it once more, yet again becoming a planet-sized destroyer. While struggling to fight the control of Unicron, he was confronted by Optimus Prime once again, who held him fast as Primus went about transforming the remaining Super Energon into a new sun for Alpha Q's planets. At some point prior to his destruction, Galvatron—or a virtual duplicate of him, it was hard to tell—participated in an Autobot training simulation that took the form of a fighting tournament. Ten years after Galvatron's sacrifice, in the year [[2030]], Primus's plan to imprison Unicron's spark at the heart of the sun ultimately failed when the star collapsed, creating a massive [[Unicron Singularity|black hole]] which threatened the existence of not just Cybertron, but the entirety of creation. The sun's collapse allowed the still-living Galvatron to escape, and he immediately set about fashioning Unicron's remains into an [[Armor of Unicron|armor]] that he merged with his body, massively increasing his powers with the dark god's own and reverted to being Megatron once again. Using his new abilities, Megatron created a [[fire dimension|pocket dimension]] to serve as a base of operations for himself and his troops, who—given that the Decepticon army was scattered to a state of virtual non-existence—consisted solely of Starscream, no longer the brainwashed servant of ten years gone, and the overeager [[Thundercracker (Armada)|Thundercracker]].
While Starscream kept the Autobots busy, Megatron approached Vector Prime, attempting to charm the elderly bot into handing over the holographic map that held the locations of the Keys. Returning to Earth to check up on Starscream's progress, Megatron was irritated to find he had made none, and left to return to Velocitron, unaware that Starscream had switched the planet map with a copy. {{storylink|Speed}} Tired of the Speed Planet's racing customs, Megatron attempted to simply blast his way into the Planet Cup shrine and steal the trophy, but when even that failed, he decided to allow Crumplezone and Ransack to participate in a racing tournament that would allow them to win the cup legally if they were victorious. {{storylink|Collapse}} His attention freed to return to the mysteries of the map, Megatron divined the location of the next Key, the [[Animatron|Jungle Planet]]. Before departing for this new world, he joined Starscream and Thundercracker on Earth to chase up the latest lead to the Omega Lock. Although the relic they found in the Sahara desert proved to be a fake, Megatron did prove his evil by destroying the Autobots [[Recon Mini-Con Team|Mini-Con allies]] during the fight. Fortunately, Vector Prime used his powers over time to rewind the battle and save their lives. {{storylink|Time (episode)|Time}}

[[Image:Detour megatron deathclaw.jpg|right|thumb|250px]]

After paying a short visit to Jungle Planet, {{storylink|Search}} where he ingratiated himself with planet ruler [[Scourge (Cybertron)|Scourge]] by engaging him in a sparring match and winning his good favour by pulling his final blow at the last second, Megatron returned to Earth upon learning that the Autobots had located the Omega Lock at the bottom of the [[Bermuda Triangle]]. The Lock proved to be contained in the ancient Cybertronian starship the ''[[Atlantis]]'', which Vector Prime warped away to the dark side of the moon to keep it out of Megatron's hands. {{storylink|Deep}} Megatron was able to use the planet map to quickly deduce the ship's location, and battled Optimus Prime within its walls for possession of the Omega Lock. In seizing the device, Megatron triggered the ship's self-destruct systems, and he was caught in the blast while Optimus escaped with the Lock. {{storylink|Ship}} Badly injured by the explosion, Megatron retreated to Jungle Planet, where he sealed himself in a regenerative bubble to heal. Receiving word from Crumplzone and Ransack that Optimus Prime had arrived on Velocitron, {{storylink|Hero (episode)|Hero}} Megatron contacted Starscream and ordered him to back up the gruesome twosome, only to have him refuse point blank. {{storylink|Race}} Soon, Megatron emerged from his bubble to witness Scourge defeating the Autobot [[Overhaul (Cybertron)|Overhaul]] in battle. When Overhaul returned for a rematch soon after, Megatron tried to help Scourge by debuting his Cyber Key-powered battle claw, but could only watch in amazement as Overhaul tapped the power of the Cyber Planet Key and became Leobreaker. {{storylink|Detour (episode)|Detour}}

[[Image:Savage megatron forcelightning.jpg|left|thumb|250px]]

Leaving Jungle Planet to track down the third Key, Megatron watched the planet where it allegedly rested be consumed by the black hole. Unaware that he was working from the tampered copy of the map and that the Key was never there, Megatron believed it destroyed, and contacted Starscream to discuss what their next move should be. A communication from [[Sideways (RID)|Sideways]] alerted them to Optimus Prime's arrival on Jungle Planet, and Megatron headed back to the bestial planet in time to be resoundingly defeated by Optimus and Leobreaker's new combined "Savage Claw Mode". {{storylink|Savage}} After training back up to full strength, {{storylink|Sand}} Megatron returned to Velocitron just as Hot Shot won the Planet Cup. Immediately striking just as the forcefield around the trophy dropped so it could be awarded to the victorious Autobot, Megatron snatched the cup away, but was quickly bested by the combined forces of the Autobots and another Savage Claw attack. {{storylink|Champion}}

[[Image:Trust megatron jetmode.jpg|right|thumb|250px]]

Back on Jungle Planet once more, Megatron stood on the sidelines, preparing to witness the battle for the Key between Scourge and Optimus Prime that was inevitable. {{storylink|Ice}} Prime refused to fight, however, and when Leobreaker tried to take Scourge alone and was wounded, Megatron attempted to finish him off. This display of dishonor enraged Scourge and he ordered Megatron to stay his hand, noticeably ruffling the Decepticon leader's feathers. Soon, when Prime came around to the idea of combat, Megatron grew concerned, and tried to dissuade Scourge from answering his challenge. {{storylink|Honor}} Scourge refused, so Megatron surreptitiously dispatched the Decepticons to stop the Autobots from making it to the battleground, making himself scarce to avoid being implicated when the plan failed. Optimus subsequently defeated Scourge and won the Cyber Planet Key, prompting Megatron to discard his previous notions of subtlety and order an all-out attack. {{storylink|Primal}} Optimus attempted to fool the Decepticons with a shell game, concealing the Key in one of several boxes and distributing them among the Autobots; thinking Prime would keep the Key himself, Megatron attacked him, but found him empty-handed. Deducing that Leobreaker had the Key, Megatron hunted him down, taunting him into the open with insults, but before they could battle, Optimus arrived to form Savage Claw Mode. With aid from Starscream, Megatron wrestled the Key from the duo, but before he could deliver a killing blow, the Key interacted with Prime's Matrix of Leadership, opening a space bridge through which all the other Autobots poured. Outnumbered, Megatron lost the Key and was beaten into retreat. {{storylink|Trust (Cybertron)|Trust}}

[[Image:Revelation megatron deathmachinegun.jpg|left|250px|thumb|Too bad my toy's gun isn't that cool.]]

Furious over two losses, Megatron nearly destroyed the planet map in his rage, until Starscream stopped him and managed to coax the location of the third Key from it. Departing at once with all his other troops, Megatron was led to empty space, where the phony map enveloped all the Decepticons, save for Crumplezone, in a metallic sphere. {{storylink|Trap}} Unable to escape even with his great power, {{storylink|Retreat}} Megatron was only able to liberate himself and his men with help from Scourge, who struck the sphere from without as Megatron attacked it within. In the time Megatron had been imprisoned, however, Starscream had obtained the third Cyber Planet Key, from Earth, for himself, along with the Omega Lock and other keys. Megatron made a beeline for his treacherous lieutenant, but was intercepted by the Autobots Hot Shot, Red Alert and Scattorshot at [[Niagara Falls]], who intended to hold him off until the other Autobots could stop Starscream and recover the Lock and Keys. Megatron's rage at being thwarted allowed him to tap the power of the Earth Key from afar, its energies unlocking a new Cyber Key Power within him—the "Death Machine Gun," which Megatron used to mow down the three Autobots in his path. {{storylink|Revelation (episode)|Revelation}} The power of Primus restored the wounded trio as the [[Cybertron Defense Team]], {{storylink|Critical}} and they continued to obstruct Megatron's path until the clumsiness of his own troops provided the Decepticon leader with the distraction he needed to open a warp gate and abscond to Starscream's volcanic island base. There, Megatron battled with Primes Optimus and Vector in the caldera, but was blindsided by the newest Autobot arrival [[Wing Saber (Energon)|Wing Saber]]. [[Image:Cybertron megatron barehands.jpg|right|thumb|250px]] Enraged, Megatron forgot his goals for a moment and began dogfighting with the Autobot ace, {{storylink|Assault}} which gave Starscream the time he needed to channel the power of the Lock and Keys and grow to a skyscraper-sized giant. In their power and fury, Megatron and Starscream began seething with auras of raw energon, and the Autobots were forced to step into the middle of the battle to keep the two Decepticons separate so their energon fields would not collide and ignite. {{storylink|Starscream (episode)|Starscream}}

As the battle raged, the Autobots recovered the Omega Lock and Keys, and Leobreaker, Override and [[Evac (Cybertron)|Evac]] departed via space bridge to take them back to Cybertron. Megatron gave chase, recruiting the services of the smitten [[Thunderblast (Decepticon)|Thunderblast]] in the process. {{storylink|United}} No sooner had he followed them back to Cybertron than Megatron was confronted by the pursuing Optimus Prime, who had defeated Starscream on Earth. Seizing the Omega Lock, Megatron escaped into his fire dimension, but Optimus followed through his warp gate and the two leaders battled across the hellish landscape. The collision of their Cyber Key Powers tore the dimension open, allowing Prime to escape with the Lock, at which point he ordered Vector Prime to open one of his own dimension gates across the portal, collapsing Megatron's dimension in on itself. To escape the imploding realm, Megatron tore the fabric of space open with his bare hands, but he was then speared by a combined blast from the Omega Lock and Vector Prime's sword and apparently destroyed. {{storylink|Cybertron (episode)|Cybertron}}
[[Image:Cyb ep33 am i a ghost.jpg|left|thumb|250px]]
This was not to be the end for Megatron, however, as the power of his Unicron armor sustained him as a ghost-like entity composed of pure darkness. {{storylink|Balance}} In this state, he rematerialized on Cybertron and used Unicron's reformatting powers to upgrade the injured Crumplezone into Dark Crumplezone. As he came under attack from Leobreaker, his regeneration completed and his physical body was restored, even as he used the remainder of the lingering darkness to create an evil doppelganger of Leobreaker, [[Nemesis Breaker]], out of the Autobot's own dark thoughts. {{storylink|Darkness (episode)|Darkness}} [[Image:Cyb ep33 dark claw mode.jpg|right|thumb|250px]] Merging with Nemesis Breaker to form Dark Claw Mode, Megatron battled Optimus Prime and Leobreaker's Savage Claw Mode and made a further play for the Omega Lock, {{storylink|Memory}} until the news that Starscream had discovered the location of the fourth and final Cyber Planet Key led him to withdraw. {{storylink|Escape (episode)|Escape}}

Discovering that Starscream had repaired the ''Atlantis'', Megatron led his Decepticons in pursuit of the ship, clashing with the Autobots as they attempted to rescue [[Bud Hansen|Bud]], [[Reverb (Cybertron)|Reverb]] and [[Six-Speed]] from aboard it. When the ''Atlantis'' warped away, Megatron found himself approached by the mysterious [[Soundwave (Cybertron)|Soundwave]], {{storylink|Titans}} who proceeded to lead them through the fire dimension to the resting place of the fourth Key: [[Gigantion]], the Giant Planet. {{storylink|Warp}} There, Megatron confronted towering planet leader [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|Metroplex]] in battle, but much to his surprise, was utterly defeated in seconds. {{storylink|Giant}} Consumed with rage over the defeat, the power of Unicron within his armor reached out and detected the energies of the Giant Planet's Cyber Planet Key, drawing upon them and infusing Megatron's body with them. Attacking the Autobots in a dark, shadowed form, he decimated most of their forces before being confronted by Optimus Prime and completing his transformation - once again, Megatron had become Galvatron. Both combatants struck at each other simultaneously, and although he suffered only minor wounds compared to Optimus, Galvatron elected to call the fight a draw and pulled out. {{storylink|Fury}}

[[Image:Cyb ep40 meet galvatron.jpg|left|thumb|250px|]]

After having his men buff the dents out of his armor, Galvatron ordered them to begin a quest down through Gigantion's many layers to claim the Cyber Planet Key deep within the planet. {{storylink|City}} The Decepticons split up into teams, with Galvatron partnering off with the newest Decepticon recruit, disgruntled Gigantion native [[Menasor (Cybertron)|Menasor]]. After making their down through many levels without obstruction, Galvatron and Menasor were confronted by the Cybertron Defense Team, eager for a rematch with the Decepticon leader. Alas, despite their upgrades, they were no match for Galvatron's increased power, {{storylink|Scourge (episode)|Scourge}} and the Decepticon leader carried on his way, arriving at the planet's lowest layer just as the Autobots were about to reach the Key. Battling Optimus Prime once more, Galvatron taunted him with the defeat of the Cybertron Defense Team, and crippled Optimus by putting the suggestion in his mind that he was deliberately putting his soldiers in danger. Galvatron's words were soon proven wrong when all the Autobots joined together to hold him off, and Optimus, his strength renewed by his troops' show of faith, used Metroplex's [[Sparkdrinker|axe]] to send Galvatron flying into the sky and out of the fight. {{storylink|Optimus (episode)|Optimus}}
[[Image:Showdown galvatron omegalock.jpg|right|thumb|225px]]
After the Autobots added the Gigantion Key to the Omega Lock, Galvatron swooped in to steal the device, only to be attacked by Starscream. The two rivals battled for possession of the artifact, and Galvatron ultimately emerged triumphant, with the sheer amount of energy released in the clash actually blasting Starscream (along with Sideways and Soundwave) into another dimension. {{storylink|Showdown}} With the Lock and Keys now in his hands, Galvatron returned to the black hole, using their power not to close the singularity, but to ''accelerate'' its spread, intending to destroy the entire universe and remake it in his image—beginning with the Jungle Planet, which he pulled into the black hole from across space. When the Autobots caught up to him, able to return from Gigantion thanks to the sacrifice of Vector Prime, they found they were no match for his enhanced strength. Soon, however, they received reinforcements in the form of every other Cybertronian in the universe, forcing Galvatron to fall back. {{storylink|Homecoming (episode)|Homecoming}}
[[Image:Cyb ep49 giant galvatron.jpg|left|thumb|250px|'''Have YOU had your Weatabix?!''']]
After using the power of the Lock to transform his remaining minions into giants to keep the Autobots at bay, Galvatron entered the black hole itself, where he was confronted by the five planet leaders. Despite absorbing the power of the Lock and becoming a giant himself, Galvatron was eventually defeated by his enemies, forcing him to throw the Omega Lock and the Cyber Planet Keys into the very core of the black hole in hopes of destroying the universe anyway. Unfortunately for him, Optimus grabbed the Lock (with some otherworldly aid from Vector Prime), and Primus' Spark was finally restored, allowing him to use the Ark to finally seal the black hole for good. Adding insult to injury, Galvatron's depowered troops found out that he had every intention of letting them die with the rest of the universe, and so abandoned the defeated Decepticon leader in the void. {{storylink|End}}
[[Image:End galvatron darkenergysword.jpg|right|thumb|250px]]
With ultimate power torn from his grasp, Galvatron was contemplating giving up when Starscream's spirit reached out across the dimensions to taunt him. After the vision of his mocking ex-lieutenant faded, Galvatron's confidence was restored, and he immediately flew to Jungle Planet, damaging one of the planetary engines the Autobots were using to return it back to its proper place in space. While the Autobots scrambled to repair the engine, Galvatron challenged Optimus Prime to one final duel, battling him first on Cybertron's surface, and then on its moon. Generating a sword of dark energy, Galvatron was about to deliver a killing blow to Prime when Vector Prime's planet map appeared to block the blade. From the map, Optimus drew Vector Prime's [[Rhisling|mighty sword]], and thus armed, he and Galvatron initiated one final charge at each other. Prime impaled Galvatron with the sword, and he collapsed, weakly reaching for Prime with the last of his strength even as his body disintegrated into cosmic particles, his life at an end at last. {{storylink|Unfinished}}

But somewhere... beyond the veil of space and time itself... Galvatron's evil proved eternal, as his shade battled with the spark of Vector Prime in the hereafter. {{storylink|Beginning}}
'''Waspinator finds himself possessed by none other than the original Decepticon traitor, Starscream!'''

==Synopsis==
[[Image:Possession Waspinator.jpg|left|200px|thumb|Haunter used Hypnosis!]]
A violent storm rages, causing significant damage and knocking out power to both the [[Axalon (BW)|Maximal]] and [[Darksyde|Predacon bases]]. While the [[Maximal]]s stash their extra ammo deeper in their ship's hold to prevent undue accidents, [[Waspinator]] attempts to get one of the Predacon base's computer consoles online...only to be greeted by a ghostly, shrill voice from it. A power surge hits the bug-bot soon afterwards, and when the other Predacons begin to wonder what has happened to him, in he comes, announcing his return "at long last" in the same eerie voice.

The voice belongs to [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], Air Commander of the [[Decepticon]] forces and [[second-in-command]] to the original [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], whose [[spark]] had been tumbling through time and space for an unknown number of years before settling within Waspinator. As he puts it, he was destroyed defending [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] from the Chaos Bringer [[Unicron]], but his [[spark]] endured. As a show of his good faith, he pledges his loyalty to the Predacon [[Megatron (BW)/Beast Wars cartoon continuity|Megatron]], revealing vital information about the state of the Maximal base due to the storm, intelligence Megatron could use to plan a sneak attack. Intrigued by the idea, Megatron accepts Starscream into his ranks.

[[Image:Possession Megatron victorious.jpg|right|200px|thumb|"B-3" "BINGO!!!"]]
The next day, as the Maximals are making repairs to their base, they are suddenly attacked by the Preds, and Starscream's intel proves very useful in catching them off-guard. In the ensuing firefight, [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] is injured and the Decepticon Air Commander flies rings round [[Optimus Primal/Beast Wars cartoon continuity|Optimus Primal]], forcing the Maximals to abandon ship and regroup outside. Happy with their victory, Megatron puts Starscream in charge of holding the ''Axalon'', with Scorponok and [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] under his command, while the rest of the Predacons return to their base, in case the Maximals decide to go for a sneak attack of their own. However, despite being pleased with Starscream's help, Megatron warns [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]] in private to watch their new ally closely. Once they're alone, though, Blackarachnia shows off her knack for history by correctly pointing out to Starscream that he was [[The Transformers: The Movie|murdered by Galvatron after he betrayed the Decepticon commander]]. She's willing to keep this a secret, though, if she's let in on his real plans: to destabilize Megatron's control and rule both factions.

Deep in the forest, as the Maximals recover, Optimus Primal voices his confusion and concern over Waspinator's new personality. He isn't entirely convinced Waspinator is possessed by the spark of Starscream, but as the [[Maximal Elder]]s had long since sealed the Decepticon's records, they're not able to confirm or deny it, either. Fortunately, Dinobot's as much of a military history buff as Blackarachnia is, commenting on how ''Webster's Cybertronian Dictionary'' has pretty much replaced all definitions of "traitor" with Starscream's name.

[[Image:Possession Starscream point.jpg|left|200px|thumb|I want YOU for Predacon Army]]
Realizing Starscream's tendencies, Optimus Primal leads the Maximals in returning to the ''Axalon'' and calling Starscream out to announce their surrender, citing the need to use the ship's [[CR chamber]] to repair Dinobot's (now exaggerated) wounds. Feeling generous, the Decepticon Air Commander allows Optimus and Dinobot to come on board, but as predictably as night follows day, betrays them and strips Optimus of his weapons and locks him up in the hold as soon as he steps on deck. With their leader now his prisoner, Starscream orders the other Maximals to attack the Predacon base, over the token objections of Scorponok, who is then blasted away by Starscream and Blackarachnia. They comply, and the trap is set.

[[Image:Possession Starscream gunpoint.jpg|right|200px|thumb|I'm azzz mad azzz hell, and I'm not going to take thizzz anymore!]]
Unbeknown to the Air Commander, he's been duped by the oldest trick in the book; by allowing himself to be betrayed, Optimus Primal has put himself and Dinobot in the perfect position to retake their base, which they do in a dazzling display that forces Starscream and Blackarachnia to retreat back to Predacon territory. Upon hearing of the Maximal attack that is ordered by Starscream, Megatron angrily swears to finish both Stascream and Blackarachnia off to himself. Optimus pursues and manages to best the Decepticon in an aerial dogfight, leaving him grovelling at the Maximal's feet...until Blackarachnia shows up, prompting Starscream to plead for her aid, believing they can still complete their coup. No dice; this new generation is much less gullible than [[Autobot|their]] [[Decepticon|ancestors]], and Blackarachnia has skillfully pulled off a double-cross on the double-crosser, igniting a small energon cache underneath Starscream to "exorcise" the Decepticon's spark from Waspinator's body.

At the end of the day, Megatron gets done fixing the back-to-normal Waspinator as Blackarachnia explains her betrayal; if she hadn't done it, she maintains, she wouldn't have been able to sniff out Starscream's true motives. Megatron reluctantly accepts this excuse, but warns her that it still doesn't invoke confidence in her loyalties. Back at the ''Axalon'', the Maximals are finishing up repairs of their own...everyone but Cheetor, who's slacking off with a bout of stargazing, quipping "Twinkle, twinkle, little Starscream," as the camera pans up to beyond the planet's orbit, showing Starscream's spark screaming mech fluid-drenched vengeance on all within the Beast Wars as he drifts away into the void.
"You're nothin' but a schemin' snake in the grass!"<br>
"Ehh, flattery will get you flattened, vermin."

"Ugh! Starscream and Blackarachnia! I'll have both their treacherous hides! Yeeessss...I'll-I'll melt them down and use them for aluminum siding! Oh, yes, indeed!"
:—'''Megatron''' finally learning of Starscream's traitorous nature. Odd...

"I'll be back! Even if it takes a thousand years, I'LL BE REVENGED ON YOU ALL!"

==Notes==
===Animation and technical errors===
* When Megatron "checks up" on Waspinator, his dino head inexplicably switches from his right hand to his left hand.
* Unicron's "ring" is not connected to his body.
* When Starscream points to the unguarded side of the ''Axalon'', he seems to have a finger pointing on both sides of his hand, as though the animators were unsure of which hand he was using to point at the screen. (From the looks of the previous scenes, it should be his left hand.)
* When the Maximals come to "surrender", as Optimus talks to Starscream, his head is hideously deformed, with the sides stretched down to the base of his neck, and his head sitting far too high. Additionally his mouth doesn't move while he's speaking. ''Argh...''
* When Starscream/Waspinator is standing on top of the ''Axalon'' and instructing the Maximals to attack the Predacon base, his right foot clips straight through one of the autocannons. A few moments later when he blasts Scorponok, he's standing nowhere near the cannon.

===Continuity errors===
* Looking at the intro sequence with Starscream's spark, he clearly touches down somewhere in the southwest United States, apparently Arizona. The terrain and creatures in ''Beast Wars'' suggest that it takes place in Africa and the presence of the standing stones, though not necessarily Stonehenge, suggest Britain. On the other hand, it makes sense, since "[[The Agenda (Part III)]]" puts the ''Axalon'' and the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] within commuting distance. It's not too wild to assume that it kept commuting for an unknown distance even after touching down either.

* While free-floating sparks are usually depicted as spheres, Starscream's spark has the twiddly bits which are usually only present to attach a spark to a protoform. Then again, it has been stated that Starscream's spark is not normal, so this may have been a conscious alteration?

* Megatron knew a great deal about Cybertronian history, yet apparently did not know the real nature of Starscream and his demise. However, Megatron might have been playing dumb to lure Starscream into being bolder with his actions. On the other hand, both the Predacon and Maximal Elders had a large portion of his records sealed ''due'' to his history. Then again, Megatron DID tell Scorponok to watch Starscream...

** On that same note, both Blackarachnia and Dinobot knew about Starscream, even though Primal stated that his records were sealed. It's possible that the records were sealed only to the Maximals (as Primal notes it was the Maximal Elders who sealed them), but given what we'll learn of the state of Maximal/Predacon relations on Cybertron and the Maximal Elders' dirty little secrets, that explanation is rather hard to believe.

* Despite being born from a Maximal Protoform, Blackarachnia refers to the Decepticons as "our" (the Predacons') ancestors.

* Starscream apparently imprisons Optimus in shackles that he can break out of in about five seconds flat. However, in the episode commentary on [[Madman Entertainment]]'s ''Beast Wars Season 1'' DVDs, story editor [[Bob Forward]] states that Primal originally had a very complex way of breaking free involving tools and the dexterity of his beast mode appendages, but the animators changed this to just him "busting out", possibly due to time and monetary constraints.

* Blackarachnia states that Starscream met his demise at the hands of Galvatron presumably meaning right after the battle for Autobot City in 2005. However, in the Season 3 episode "Ghost in the Machine", Starscream tricks Unicron into giving him a new body. He is last seen tumbling into space after suffering another non-lethal blast from Galvatron's cannon one last time.

* [[Optimal Situation|Future]] [[Master Blaster|Episodes]] would show that a Maximal or Predacon body with two sparks (one of them Autobot or Decepticon) in undergoes violent and great changes, growing in size and might. Waspinator undergoes no such change.
** Megatron does infer that the "power" of the second park has an effect on this, but this also seems strange, as Starscream's spark, due to its immortality, would be presumably better than the average.

===Transformers references===
* Obviously, Starscream himself firmly ties ''Beast Wars'' to established Generation 1 history, though you could argue that Waspinator thinking he was [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]] already did this.

* Starscream's spark—or "ghost", as it was then called—possesses several Decepticons (including [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]], [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]], [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]], and [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]]) in the [[The Transformers (cartoon)|Generation 1 episodes]] "[[Starscream's Ghost]]" and "[[Ghost in the Machine]]". His actions [[Atari Hitotonari|don't stop]] [[Teletraan 15|there]].

* One of the Predacon insignias on the side of Waspinator's cranium changes into a Decepticon insignia while Starscream's spark is inhabiting his superstructure.

* And of course, Starscream's fate was from ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]''.

* Starscream's head is white and his face is blue, making him resemble his appearance in [[The Transformers (Marvel comic)|Marvel Comics]] instead of his [[The Transformers (cartoon)|cartoon]] [[character model]].

===Real-world references===
* [[Optimus Primal]] says "Hasta la vista, Starscream", paraphrasing a famous line from the film ''[[wikia:c:terminator:Terminator 2: Judgment Day|Terminator 2: Judgment Day]]''.

* As he flies away immediately after saying this, Optimus Primal is seen wearing a pair of sunglasses, aping (ahem) Arnold Schwarzenegger's trademark look from the movie.

* Rhinox's line "It's tramplin' time" could be an homage to "It's clobberin' time!", the catchphrase of the [[Thing]] of the [[Fantastic Four]].
===Trivia===
* [[Doug Parker]] performs both [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] (standing in for the late [[Chris Latta]]), and the very Starscreamy [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]]. In fact, Parker's Starscream is basically Terrosaur with a metallic distortion a la G1 Soundwave. Perhaps Starscream should have possessed Terrorsaur instead — of course, nobody would notice the difference.
* According to fan consultant [[Ben Yee]] and story editor Bob Forward on the Madman DVD commentary track, the original idea for this episode was to have the spark of an Autobot possess one of the characters. This idea was abandoned early on because a model of Starscream had already been made for "[[The Web]]". Besides, Starscream had the experience.
* Also according to Forward, the angles used for Waspinator (when he is possessed by Starscream) are much more "heroic" than normal (views from slightly below him, extreme closeups, etc.), to reflect Starscream's personality.
* Apart from the Decepticon insignia on his head, Waspinator's only physical change when possessed is the addition of a yellow stripe along the upper edges of his "mandibles", similar to their inner edges.
* Additionally, Yee provided all of the original Starscream's [[Tech Spec]] [[Bio|biographies]] to writer Ian Weir as a reference for Starscream's character and personality. Yee was pleased that Weir incorporated Starscream's original "[[Air Commander]]" [[function]] as the character's rank and title.
* After Blackarachnia convinces Starscream to take her on as his protege, as they're walking away Starscream's hand is at her shoulder but then starts moving down towards her um... butt. Perv.
