Orion rebels against Megatron and the Autobots try to get their leader back.

Synopsis
Jack and Arcee walk through Kaon, guided by the light of the Key to Vector Sigma. They come upon a circular clearing, and the key glows intensely, indicating that they must be close. Suddenly, the ground begins to shake, and cracks appear in the surface. The duo watch in awe as a passageway rises from the ground, its door illuminated the same as the Key. It opens, but just as the two are about to enter, an enormous creature rears up from atop the passage. Arcee's Autobot symbol catches its eye, and it charges her, Arcee's minute strength doing nothing to injure it. She is quickly incapacitated, and the creature notices Jack, giving temporary pursuit until distracted by Arcee. Jack radios Ratchet and is told that the creature is an Insecticon, one of many sentries left to guard the dead Cybertron. Arcee tells Jack to go, to his surprise, but he realizes the necessity. As he enters, the door closes behind him.

On the Nemesis, Megatron inquires as to Orion's progress on Project Iacon. Orion says it's tough work, but Megatron says otherwise, revealing to him that all of his unsanctioned research has been recorded. Orion takes the opportunity to ask about his reported affiliation with the Autobots, but Megatron merely tells him to get back to work. Orion decides that enough is enough, and erases his progress in the archives. Megatron laughs, and shows the clerk that he has been recorded and documented in his pursuits. Soundwave intrudes, to show Megatron that one of their sentries came online on Cybertron. Orion asks how anything is alive on the planet, but Megatron tells him to continue his work-or be terminated.

Back on Cybetron, Arcee tangles with the enormous bug, but is no match for its brute strength. Finished with her, the Insecticon turns its attention to the fleshling, and breaks its way into the tunnel.

In the depths of the tunnel, Jack hears a familiar noise, and uproots a metal bar for protection.

Back on the Nemesis, Megatron reviews the reports with Soundwave. He learns of the space bridge's activation, its endpoint, and the fact that it is still active. He quickly deduces the Autobots' plan.

In Cybetron's gullet, Jack arrives at the chamber of Vector Sigma. He proceeds to the center of a circular platform, where he places the Key. The entire chamber begins to transform and glow with the Key's energy, and the enormous supercomputer reveals itself, and begins to transfer its energy to the Key.

On the Nemesis, Orion is hassled by the guards. He appeals to their "good nature", saying that he believes Megatron will use the information he is agglomerating for nefarious purposes. Good-old fashioned police brutality ensues as the helpless clerk is kicked and punched by his guards.

In the chamber, Jack is antsy about the speed of his download. His problems lie beyond his dial-up, however, because behind him, a horde of Scraplets has just taken notice of the very alive metal before him in the form of the Key to Vector Sigma. Jack is helpless to fend them off, and they begin to snack on the download port. He reports frantically on his position to ground control

In the space bridge chamber, however, the Autobots have bigger fish to fry as Megatron steps out of a ground bridge to them. Ratchet vows to protect their charges, and the battle begins, Megatron easily flooring every Autobot, Ratchet and Bulkhead twice.

On Cybtertron, Arcee awakes to find a Scraplet chewing on her knee. She blasts it off, and notices the opened passage—and the absent Insecticon. Transforming, she speeds into the passageway.

Jack valiantly smashes the Scraplets as they feed, but is unable to stop their progress towards the Matrix. Another problem presents itself behind him in the form of the Insecticon. It charges towards him, but stops in its tracks, staring at the key. Jack realizes why, and the Scraplets suddenly become a blessing. He formulates an idea, pulling a Scraplet off the Key and pointing it at the agressor. It turns tail as it realizes what's happening, but the Scraplets give chase and latch on, quickly chewing through the giant insect as it falls to its doom, limbs disconnected. The download completes, and Jack retrieves the key. Arcee finally arrives, and the two depart.

The Vehicon guards continue to beat down Orion, and one of them lets slip that it's a privilege to beat the former leader of the Autobots. Orion pleads with them to stop, and in his defense, he accidentally transforms his arms into blasters. Realizing they're in trouble, the guards fire on Pax, but he quickly dispatches them both.

Arcee and Jack arrive at the space bridge portal, and radio Ratchet about their position. Total silence on the comm tip them off that something is wrong, and, undetected on the other end of the portal, Megatron waits to end the lineage of the Primes. However, he is surprised by the sudden arrival of Orion Pax, who vows that, no matter what his heritage might be, his spark is aligned with the Autobots. He deploys his blades, and charges for Megatron, but is quickly dispatched. Megatron says that he has much to learn, and prepares to kill him, but Arcee speeds through the bridge and collides with him, sending them both flying. In the light of the bridge, Jack presents the Key to Orion, who hesitates, but accepts his destiny.

The Key begins to upload the Matrix to its host. Megatron, preoccupied with fighting Arcee, notices this, and desperately runs at him. However, Orion Pax—now Optimus Prime—isn't ready to go down again, and trounces his enemy. A GroundBridge portal opens up, and the Autobots retreat.

At base, the Autobots and humans rejoice at their reunion. Noticing his Decepticon symbol, Optimus asks Ratchet what had happened. He replies that it was their darkest hour, but at every point along the way, Optimus was truly an Autobot at spark.

Notes
Animation and technical errors
Continuity notes
*The scraplets seem a lot nastier in this episode, chewing so fast as to render a hulking robot limbless in a matter of seconds. This is not an error, as many factors could contribute, such as the scraplets' inability to find living metal on the barren Cybertron and the ancient state of the Insecticon.
*Optimus still has the broken sword from waaaaay back in "One Shall Fall".

Transformers references
* Ratchet references The Transformers: The Movie by referring to an event as "their darkest hour", as he did before in "Darkness Rising, Part 5".
* Bulkhead calls Megatron bucket head

Real-world references
*Bulkhead's line bemoaning the Scraplets on Cybertron is a paraphrase of the oft-referenced "Why did it have to be snakes?" line from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Trivia
*Interpret it how you will, but Fowler and Junes' shared glance seems to hint at a deeper meaning. Maybe Jack's mom has got it going on?
Inferno brings Megatron an alien golden disk that causes him to offer a too good to be true cease fire to the Maximals.

Synopsis
Tigatron observes a strange energy pulse in a distant mountain. Simultaneously, within the Predacon base, Megatron is woken by his computer. It reports the energy anomaly, and that it is of alien origin. Megatron suspects this could be the start of something big and thus sends Inferno to investigate. The fire ant burrows into the mountain and recovers a strange discus.

Primal is on a scouting run looking for the energy anomaly that Tigatron reported. He sees a strange probe, and follows it. The probe stops and forms into a hologram of Megatron. He proposes to meet about a truce on neutral ground, between both leaders.

When they meet, Megatron insists that the truce is not an act of treachery. He explains that he has no time to fight Maximals, and he needs time to think. Primal reluctantly agrees to a truce, bound by Maximal code. Rhinox proposes that it's about the alien energy. Primal agrees, stating that something scared Megatron very badly. Rattrap is sent—despite his usual complaints—to infiltrate the Darksyde.

Meanwhile, Tarantulas hacks his way into a holding chamber to steal one of the Predacon ship's remaining Transwarp cells. Waspinator surprises him and demands an answer, and Tarantulas easily defeats him. Megatron, watching the exchange, decides to let Tarantulas do his work, and throw another kink in it—Blackarachnia.

Airazor delivers Rattrap to the Predacon base—unarmed—and drops him off quickly before hailing the Predacon channels. Megatron casually disarms the perimeter defenses and asks Airazor to leave. As she leaves, he stops her a moment and suggests she take Rattrap with her. Foiled, they return to the base and report to Primal, but exchange knowing glances—the distraction was enough for Tigatron to make his entrance.

Blackarachnia surprises Tarantulas, and in the confusion, Megatron hacks the Transwarp cell and adds his own programming.

Tigatron hacks the Predacon database in a cool VR world, and discovers the second Golden Disk's datatracks. Terrorsaur finds Tigatron hacking and sounds the alarm, but Tigatron uses Terrorsaur and Scorponok's goonery against each other. Under orders not to fire, the Predacons chase Tigatron, leading into a battle with the rest of the Maximals.

Under the limitations of a truce, the Predacons and Maximals battle without using their weapons. Primal steals a wire from Inferno's rocket. Terrorsaur fails at dodging a piece of sheet metal that Cheetor and Rhinox move into position. The spiders are smart enough to avoid one trap set by Dinobot, but in doing so, are crushed by another. Without firing a single shot, the Maximals have won the day... unless, of course, Megatron intentionally let them get away.

On the Maximal base, Tigatron explains what Megatron discovered: a golden disk similar in size to the one Megatron originally stole, this one created by the same aliens who crafted the flying island, and seeded the energon on the planet. The disk itself was part of a signal that the aliens sent, ensuring that the planet received a message:

The aliens are on their way. And they are not very happy...
"When Predacons talk truce, it just means they need time to reload their weapons."<br />
"There is a storm approaching. A storm of such magnitude, of such power... it is beyond imagination. And to think, I was once satisfied with mere energon. To think that my ambitions lofted no higher than the conquest of Cybertron. *laughs* *coughs* Well, no longer. For I have been given a glimpse of power. Real power. And that power shall be mine!"
:—Megatron starts to acquire a taste for godhood.

Notes
Animation and technical errors
* When Optimus arrives at the neutral territory to talk with Megatron, his shoulder pads are missing. Megatron's ones are also missing when he speaks to Airazor.
* While Megatron is in his closing words of the episode, he is missing his beast mode kibble, except the head of course. In fact, Megatron is missing most of his kibble throughout the episode, especially the pieces on his back (which form the sides of his beast mode).
* Not so much an error as it is an animation oversight, but if you look closely as Blackarachnia runs after Tigatron (right before the scene cuts to Dinobot,) you can see her holding a gun, despite Megatron's emphasis on "No shooting" mere seconds ago. Blackarachnia probably remembers this in the next scene involving her, as her gun is nowhere to be seen then.
* The idea Maximals and Predacons have of "truce" is rather odd. Instead of meaning a full end of hostilities, it merely prevents the use of guns (and probably other conventional weaponry); unusual and comic violence such as boulder-throwing or use of a metal plate is still possible. Also, punching is still allowed.

Transformers references
*When Megatron is talking to Inferno in his room, there is a Generation 1 Seeker head on his shelf, with an expression of pure horror. It's either a reference to Starscream's treachery in a previous episode, or Megatron has some weird taste in ornaments.
*There's also a replica of Generation 1 Megatron's fusion cannon on the shelf below the head.

Real-world references
*On the shelf in Megatron's room (aside from the Seeker head and a picture of himself), there is a Transformer sized trophy and bowling pin. He must have been good at that non-sport before he traded his hand for another head.
* When accessing the transwarp cell's programming, Megatron's code "A T T override" is a shout-out to the Usenet newsgroup alt.toys.transformers.
* Megatron mused that "There is a storm coming. A storm of such power, such magnitude, it is beyond imagination!" "Beyond Imagination" was at the time the website of James Hooks, a fan who'd had close contact with the series writers. His site took its name from a tagline for the original movie.
* The entire escape sequence contains a great deal of Looney Tunes-style sight gags. Scorponok's facial features contort wildly just before he collides with Terrorsaur; Blackarachnia and Tarantulas are squashed by an improbably fast rock; Terrorsaur flies into a sheet of metal, leaving a full-body impression; and Inferno comes to a dead halt in mid-air before realizing that his flight systems are disabled and that he's required to fall. A tiny poof of dust accompanies his impact on the ground far below.
*Bob Forward has said this was originally planned to be part of a 4-part "Other Voices" but the plans were changed at the last minute—"Apparently anything more than a two-parter is too hard to schedule. *Apparently, all you have to do to hack all of the Predacon ship's data, is play a virtual reality video game. The Predacons' computer virtual interface is similar to what's seen in early-to-mid 90s techno-films like Johnny Mnemonic.
*Blackarachnia can be seen trapping a red poison-dart frog in her webbing when Megatron communicates with her via computer.
*Before the Predacon computer wakes him up, Megatron's dinosaur head-arm is "awake" and looking around. Similarly, when observing Tarantulas's break-in, his dino hand is looking up at him, and he pets it affectionately, as if it was, well... a pet. Just before Airazor calls the Predacon base, he is brushing its teeth with a toothbrush. It's not clear what's going on here or how this works, particularly when he's in beast mode, but clearly, Megatron has a very special relationship with his right hand.
*Airazor's suggestion that Rattrap "shed a few kilos" certainly raises some questions about Maximal biology.
*How exactly Megatron managed to reach the truce location is a bit sketchy. Optimus was only able to reach it by flight, and yet there were no other minions to carry Megatron up to such a high location, yet towards the end of the conversation, he simply turns to walk away... must have been a hard fall down.
Attempting to retrieve their lost records journal, the Quintessons use subliminal messages on the Junkions, and inadvertently the entire galaxy.
Synopsis
Searching for one of their journals, the Quintessons discover that it has landed on the planet of Junk. After observing the native Junkions, the Quintessons send a Sharkticon retrieval team. The Sharkticons locate the journal quickly, but are then driven off by the Junkions. The Quintessons hijack the television broadcasts the Junkions watch, planting subliminal messages telling the Junkions that being neat is a good thing...and the other races are their enemies.

Travelling through the Junkion sector, Sky Lynx comes under attack by Astrotrain. While the two battle, the Junkions fire on both Transformers. Sky Lynx races back to Cybertron, and informs Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. The Autobot leader sends the Aerialbots to investigate. Astrotrain also returns to Chaar to report his encounter, but Galvatron doesn't care. Cyclonus, however, is interested, and takes Scourge and the Sweeps to investigate. The Aerialbots arrive, and get caught in the crossfire between the Junkions and the Quintessons. The Aerialbots form Superion and target the Quintessons. However, the Quintesson ship damages Superion, who is then rescued by Sky Lynx. Cyclonus and the Sweeps arrive to investigate, and withdraw after being fired upon.

During the battle, the transmitter sending the messages to the Junkions was damaged, causing the Junkions to believe that they should transmit their broadcasts to other races. The affected races soon begin lashing out at their neighbors, causing what would become an interstellar dark age. The Quintessons see a good possibility here, as they could sell weapons to the warring races, but decide that the recovery of the journal is the higher priority. Back on Chaar, Galvatron displays anger at Cyclonus for going to investigate Junkion, but Cyclonus continues on, believing that to turn the Junkions on the Autobots is too good an opportunity for the Decepticons. Hoping to find answers, Rodimus, Magnus, Kup, and Blaster head to investigate in Omega Supreme, but come under attack by Cyclonus and the Sweeps. Omega is damaged, and the Autobots draw the Decepticons away from the wounded Guardian robot. Finally, Omega Supreme is repaired, and the Decepticons retreat.

Meanwhile, the affected races have converged on Junkion, and are firing on everyone in sight. Chaar has also been targeted, and Galvatron is drawn into the bedlam. Knowing they have one chance, the Quintessons make a move for the journal, but a stray blast from Galvatron damages their shuttle and sends the journal hurtling into the void. Arriving, Blaster determines that the transmissions are the cause of the violence, and sends out transmissions to counter them. Their senses restored, the Junkions stop fighting everyone...and start concentrating on the Decepticons, who retreat. Rodimus asks Wreck-Gar what happened, but Wreck-Gar doesn't know.

Returning to their ship, the two Quintessons prepare to accept their punishment, but their superior declares that finding the journal is now their priority...before their clients do.
:—The Autobots discuss their situation.

Notes
* When Galvatron and Rodimus face off on Junkion, Galvatron mentions the "scrapeyard". What's a scrapeyard? Pretty sure he meant scrapyard. (Note: This error has been fixed in the Shout Factory release).

Animation and/or technical glitches
* While driving off the Sharkticons in the beginning, it looks like Wreck-Gar is shooting lasers from his axe. It changes to a gun in the last shot.
* Astrotrain appears to be the same size as Sky Lynx while in his robot form. Sky Lynx usually appears to be the size of a combiner.
* After the Junkions drive off Sky Lynx and Astrotrain, Wreck-Gar is shown standing next to...Wreck-Gar and Wreck-Gar.
* As he notes Rodimus' boredom, Ultra Magnus has an Autobot logo on each shoulder. There should only be one on his right shoulder.
* Ultra Magnus' back is shown as plain red in several scenes, where it should have a grey panel with differently colored squares.
* Astrotrain doesn't actually tell Galvatron about the Junkion attack. There appears to be missing dialogue in that scene.
* In the same scene, Cyclonus is missing the lower orange shape on his waist, and Galvatron mouths part of his dialogue.
* A red alarm light flashes on a console and is somehow visible through a Quintesson standing in front of it.
* During the montage of the transmission's effects, one shot shows the Quintessons subliminal message as if it's a hologram, when it should be inside of the tv screen.
* In the last few shots of the Quintessons discussing the effects of the transmission on different planets, the Egyptian faces on the Quintessons have orange-framed eyes (instead of green).
* In many shots, the Quintessons' arms are drawn as simple (black) lines when they should be white and have some thickness to them.
* In the next shot, Cyclonus' back windows are not colored in (they should be orange).
* Omega Supreme's voice is missing its usual self-echo reverberation.
* The first shots of Blaster show him with five buttons on his chest instead of three.
* The inside of Magnus' mouth is red in the next shot.
* When Omega comes under attack, Rodimus starts asking what happened to Omega before anything actually happens.
* One shot shows a Quintesson's mouth lined in orange when only the inside should be orange.
* As he looks at Omega Supreme's panel, Magnus is missing most of his detailing as well as his Autobot logo.
* The next shot (as he dives for cover) has inside of Magnus' mouth colored in blue.
* When Ultra Magnus is repairing Omega Supreme, one scene is missing...well...everything but Magnus's hands. He appears to be repairing empty space.
* As he finishes the repairs, Magnus closes a panel that's already closed.
* Not so much of an animation error per se, but Omega Supreme manages to transform from his rocket ship into his full robot self. That's interesting, given that his rocket ship is the equivalent of his forearms, with no tank, legs, or tracks that all appear in robot mode.
* As the Quintessons watch the big space battle, the display shows a grey background behind the ships instead of space.
* As Omega Supreme approaches the battle, one shot has one of his rocket fins in gray instead of orange.
* When he lands on Junkion, Cyclonus is missing the lower orange shape on his waist.
* When he fights Galvatron, we hear Rodimus Prime's rifle even though he's not carrying it (the blast he fires comes from his arm). This happens again as the Junkions attack the Decepticons.
* When Galvatron lifts Rodimus to throw him, Rodimus' spoiler is all-yellow when it should be orange in the middle.
* In the first shot of him talking to Blaster, the inside of Magnus' mouth is red.
* After Galvatron blows up a tv, the next shot shows a poorly drawn and miscolored Soundwave, Cyclonus missing the orange shapes on his chest, and Rodimus' spoiler in all-yellow.
* As the Decepticons retreat, Soundwave's chest is white instead of blue and is missing its Decepticon logo. There's also three Cyclonuses (Cycloni?) in the shot.
* When he wonders who broadcasted the programs, the inside of Magnus' mouth is red.
* The last shot shows the Egyptian faces on the Quintessons with orange-framed eyes again.

Continuity errors
* Where has Omega Supreme been all this time? The Autobots certainly could have used him in the battles with Trypticon, the Dweller, etc. And why does his voice sound so different?
* When Cyclonus' group fires on the Autobots after disabling Omega Supreme, one shot shows Ultra Magnus just standing there (while everyone else is shooting back).
* Galvatron stops the transmission by shooting a tv, but the antenna was never shot, so the transmission should still be going on.
* When the transmission ends, do all the beings on all those planets suddenly stop fighting each other? Even if they somehow know they've been manipulated, there must have been massive casualties and damages on those worlds.

Transformers references
* This episode is Omega Supreme's only Season 3 appearance, and last appearance in the cartoon.

Real-world references
* As a Junkion-centric episode, this story is positively drowning in pop culture references.
Trivia
*When the US comic needed a fill-in issue, this episode was chosen and script adapted. While the UK offices were in no position to pass up on any US material being produced, this issue also completely conflicted with the Movie-Future they had established. To sidestep continuity problems, Simon Furman wrote a framing sequence establishing US #43 as an imaginary story dreamed up by Wreck-Gar, as part of a lead in to his "Space Pirates!" arc.
*The comic adaptation lends credence to the idea that the opening scenes are mis-ordered. The comic features the Sharkticons seeking the journal first, and being repulsed, then the Quintessons analyzing the Junkions and concluding that they must be subtle in their attack. In the cartoon, the analysis comes first, and is immediately followed by the Sharkticons' flagrantly un-subtle invasion.
*This episode is set before "The Quintesson Journal", because this journal is the same one that Blaster and Outback find.
*Blast Off's appearance serves absolutely no purpose. He's not shown fighting or speaking or anything. And Soundwave must have been a decoration as well.
Synopsis
A violent storm rages, causing significant damage and knocking out power to both the Maximal and Predacon bases. While the Maximals stash their extra ammo deeper in their ship's hold to prevent undue accidents, Waspinator attempts to get one of the Predacon base's computer consoles online...only to be greeted by a ghostly, shrill voice from it. A power surge hits the bug-bot soon afterwards, and when the other Preds begin to wonder what has happened to him, in he comes, announcing his return "at long last" in the same eerie voice.

The voice belongs to Starscream, Air Commander of the Decepticon forces and second-in-command to the original Megatron, whose spark had been tumbling through time and space for an unknown number of years before settling within Waspinator. As he puts it, he was destroyed defending Galvatron from the Chaos Bringer Unicron, but his spark endured. As a show of his good faith, he pledges his loyalty to the Predacon Megatron, revealing vital information about the state of the Maximal base due to the storm, intelligence Megatron could use to plan a sneak attack. Intrigued by the idea, Megatron accepts Starscream into his ranks, but warns Scorponok in private to watch their new ally closely.

The next day, as the Maximals are making repairs to their base, they are suddenly attacked by the Preds, and Starscream's intel proves very useful in catching them off-guard. In the ensuing firefight, Dinobot is injured and the Decepticon Air Commander flies rings round Optimus, forcing the Maximals to abandon ship and regroup outside. Happy with their victory, Megatron puts Starscream in charge of holding the Axalon, with Scorponok and Blackarachnia under his command, while the rest of the Preds return to their base, in case the Maximals decide to go for a sneak attack of their own. Once they're alone, though, Blackarachnia shows off her knack for history by correctly pointing out to Starscream that he was murdered by Galvatron (the Unicron-reborn Megatron) after he betrayed the Decepticon commander. She's willing to keep this a secret, though, if she's let in on his real plans: to destabilize Megatron's control and rule both factions.

Deep in the forest, as the Maximals recover, Optimus voices his confusion and concern over Waspinator's new personality. He isn't entirely convinced Waspinator is possessed by the spark of Starscream, but as the Maximal Elders had long since sealed the Decepticon's records, they're not able to confirm or deny it, either. Fortunately, Dinobot's as much of a military history buff as Blackarachnia is, commenting on how Webster's Cybertronian Dictionary has pretty much replaced all definitions of "traitor" with Starscream's name. Are you pondering what I'm pondering, Optimus?

He is. Returning to the Axalon, the Maximals call Starscream out to announce their surrender, citing the need to use the ship's CR Chamber to repair Dinobot's (now exaggerated) wounds. Feeling generous, the Decepticon Air Commander allows Optimus and Dinobot to come on board, but as predictably as night follows day, betrays them and strips Optimus of his weapons and locks him up in the hold as soon as he steps on deck. With their leader now his prisoner, Starscream orders the other Maximals to attack the Predacon base, over the token objections of Scorponok. They comply, and the trap is set.

Unbeknown to the Air Commander, he's been duped by the oldest trick in the book; by allowing himself to be betrayed, Optimus has put himself and Dinobot in the perfect position to retake their base, which they do in a dazzling display that forces Starscream to retreat back to Pred territory. Optimus pursues and manages to best the Decepticon in an aerial dogfight, leaving him grovelling at the Maximal's feet...until Blackarachnia shows up, prompting Starscream to plead for her aid, believing they can still complete their coup. No dice; this new generation is much less gullible than their ancestors, and Blackarachnia has skillfully pulled off a double-cross on the double-crosser, igniting a small energon cache underneath Starscream to "exorcise" the Decepticon's spark from Waspinator's body.

At the end of the day, Megatron gets done fixing the back-to-normal Waspinator as Blackarachnia explains her betrayal; if she hadn't done it, she maintains, she wouldn't have been able to sniff out Starscream's true motives. Megatron reluctantly accepts this excuse, but warns her that it still doesn't invoke confidence in her loyalties. Back at the Axalon, the Maximals are finishing up repairs of their own...everyone but Cheetor, who's slacking off with a bout of stargazing, quipping "Twinkle, twinkle, little Starscream," as the camera pans up to beyond the planet's orbit, showing Starscream's spark screaming mech fluid-drenched vengeance on all within the Beast Wars as he drifts away into the void.
Notes
Animation and/or technical glitches
* When Megatron "checks up" on Waspinator, his dino head inexplicably switches from his right hand to his left hand.
* Unicron's "ring" is not connected to his body.
* When Starscream points to the unguarded side of the Axalon, he seems to have a finger pointing on both sides of his hand, as though the animators were unsure of which hand he was using to point at the screen. (From the looks of the previous scenes, it should be his left hand.)
* When the Maximals come to "surrender", as Optimus talks to Starscream, his head is hideously deformed, with the sides stretched down to the base of his neck, and his head sitting far too high. Additionally his mouth doesn't move while he's speaking. Argh...
* When Starscream/Waspinator is standing on top of the Axalon and instructing the Maximals to attack the Predacon base, his right foot clips straight through one of the autocannons. A few moments later when he blasts Scorponok, he's standing nowhere near the cannon.

Continuity errors
* Looking at the intro sequence with Starscream's spark, he clearly touches down somewhere in the southwest United States, apparently Arizona. The terrain and creatures in Beast Wars suggest that it takes place in Africa and the presence of the standing stones, though not necessarily Stonehenge, suggest Britain. On the other hand, it makes sense, since "The Agenda (Part III)" puts the Axalon and the Ark within commuting distance. It's not too wild to assume that it kept commuting for an unknown distance even after touching down either.

* While free-floating sparks are usually depicted as spheres, Starscream's spark has the twiddly bits which are usually only present to attach a spark to a protoform. Then again, it has been stated that Starscream's spark is not normal, so this may have been a conscious alteration?

* Megatron knew a great deal about Cybertronian history, yet apparently did not know the real nature of Starscream and his demise. However, Megatron might have been playing dumb to lure Starscream into being bolder with his actions. On the other hand, both the Predacon and Maximal Elders had a large portion of his records sealed due to his history. Then again, Megatron DID tell Scorponok to watch Starscream...

** On that same note, both Blackarachnia and Dinobot knew about Starscream, even though Primal stated that his records were sealed. It's possible that the records were sealed only to the Maximals (as Primal notes it was the Maximal Elders who sealed them), but given what we'll learn of te state of Maximal/Predacon relations on Cybertron and the Maximal Elders' dirty little secrets, that explanation is rather hard to believe.

* Despite being born from a Maximal Protoform, Blackarachnia refers to the Decepticons as "our" (the Predacons') ancestors.

* Starscream apparently imprisons Optimus in shackles that he can break out of in about five seconds flat. However, in the episode commentary on Madman Entertainment's Beast Wars Season 1 DVDs, story editor Bob Forward states that Primal originally had a very complex way of breaking free involving tools and the dexterity of his beast mode appendages, but the animators changed this to just him "busting out", possibly due to time and monetary constraints.

Transformers references
* Obviously, Starscream himself firmly ties Beast Wars to established Generation 1 history, though you could argue that Waspinator thinking he was Shrapnel already did this.

* Starscream's spark—or "ghost", as it was then called—possesses several Decepticons (including Cyclonus, Scourge, Astrotrain, and Trypticon) in the Generation 1 episodes "Starscream's Ghost" and "Ghost in the Machine". His actions don't stop there.

* One of the Predacon insignias on the side of Waspinator's cranium changes into a Decepticon insignia while Starscream's spark is inhabiting his superstructure.

* And of course, Starscream's fate was from The Transformers: The Movie.

* Starscream's head is white and his face is blue, making him resemble his appearance in Marvel Comics instead of his cartoon character model.

Real-world references
* Optimus Primal says "Hasta la vista, Starscream", paraphrasing a famous line from the film "Terminator 2: Judgment Day".

* As he flies away immediately after saying this, Optimus Primal is seen wearing a pair of sunglasses, aping (ahem) Arnold Schwarzenegger's trademark look from the movie.

* Rhinox's line "It's tramplin' time" could be an homage to "It's clobberin' time!", the catchphrase of the Thing of the Fantastic Four.

Trivia
* Doug Parker performs both Starscream (standing in for the late Chris Latta), and the very Starscreamy Terrorsaur. In fact, Parker's Starscream is basically Terrosaur with a metallic distortion a la G1 Soundwave. Perhaps Starscream should have possessed Terrorsaur instead — of course, nobody would notice the difference.
* According to fan consultant Ben Yee and story editor Bob Forward on the Madman DVD commentary track, the original idea for this episode was to have the spark of an Autobot possess one of the characters. This idea was abandoned early on because a model of Starscream had already been made for "The Web". Besides, Starscream had the experience.
* Also according to Forward, the angles used for Waspinator (when he is possessed by Starscream) are much more "heroic" than normal (views from slightly below him, extreme closeups, etc.), to reflect Starscream's personality.
* Apart from the Decepticon insignia on his head, Waspinator's only physical change when possessed is the addition of a yellow stripe along the upper edges of his "mandibles", similar to their inner edges.
* Additionally, Yee provided all of the original Starscream's tech spec biographies to writer Ian Weir as a reference for Starscream's character and personality. Yee was pleased that Weir incorporated Starscream's original "Air Commander" function as the character's rank and title.
* After Blackarachnia convinces Starscream to take her as his protege as their walking away Starscream's hand is at her shoulder but then starts moving down towards her um... butt. Perv.

* After Blackarachnia convinces Starscream to take her as his protege as their walking away Starscream's hand is at her shoulder but then starts moving down towards her um... butt. Perv.

* After Blackarachnia convinces Starscream to take her as his protege as their walking away Starscream's hand is at her shoulder but then starts moving down towards her um... butt. Perv.
The Autobots' attempt to reactivate Primus leads to a literal war of the worlds!

Synopsis
Somewhere in space, aboard the Atlantis starship, Starscream is feeling very pleased with himself for gaining so much ground in the race for the fourth Cyber Planet Key. Sideways warns that they shouldn't let their guard down, but neither he nor Starscream are aware of how right he is to be so cautious. Unbeknownst to them, elsewhere in the massive ship, the stranded Bud, Jolt and Reverb are doing their part to help the other Autobots track them down. Unable to use his communicator since Starscream would detect the transmission, Bud uses a welding torch to sear the Autobot insignia into chunks of metal, which the Mini-Cons then jettison through the trash chute, leaving a proverbial trail of breadcrumbs in the Atlantiss wake.

Meanwhile, the Autobots on Cybertron are working on a plan of their own, as they try to figure out a way to combine Optimus Prime's Matrix with the three Cyber Planet Keys they have acquired in order to stabilize the black hole before they depart for Gigantion. Of course, they have to find Gigantion first, and Vector Prime is hard at work studying the Planet Map, trying to pinpoint the gateway that will lead them to the alternate universe in which the planet lies.

Jetfire and Wing Saber have been assigned to search space for the Atlantis, and are soon lucky enough to stumble across Bud's marked garbage. Unfortunately for the two Autobots, Thunderblast spies on them as they follow Bud's trail back to the Atlantis, and she soon leads Megatron and the other Decepticons after them. As the two heroes try to deal with both the firepower of the Atlantis and the threat of Megatron's Decepticons, Sideways powers up the ship's warp drive, and teleports the Atlantis away before Jetfire can get Bud and the Mini-Cons off it. The same cannot be said of the ship's other unwilling passengers, however—Decepticon stowaways Crumplezone and Ransack are able to disembark and rejoin Megatron's forces before the ship vanishes, but Megatron randomly blasts Ransack in anger over losing the Atlantis. Wing Saber and Jetfire quickly depart...and as such, they are not around to witness the sudden arrival of an enigmatic new robot, who introduces himself as Soundwave, and informs the Decepticons that he can lead them to Gigantion.

Back on Cybertron, Optimus Prime receives Jetfire's disappointing report with sadness, but is forced to put such thoughts from his mind when Override announces that they have completed setting up the equipment. Using the Matrix to activate the Omega Lock, Optimus is able to re-energize Primus, who silently focuses the entirety of his power into a beam that he shoots directly into the heart of the black hole. With the beam holding steady, things are looking good...until the Atlantis suddenly warps into view above the beam. Having sensed Primus's reactivation from across the galaxy, Starscream has arrived to finish the job he started on Earth. The treacherous Decepticon dives headlong into Primus's beam of energy and begins absorbing the power of his spark. As the horrified Autobots watch, Starscream is transformed by the power of Primus into a cosmic titan the size of a planet!

When Coby sees the Atlantis floating past, he immediately runs to leave the room, knowing that his brother is on the ship. Optimus Prime stops him and talks some sense into him: after all, what can he do with a planet-sized Starscream in the way? With Coby reined in, the Autobots rush into action, quickly erecting an energy shield to protect Primus's immobile body from the attacks that the gargantuan Starscream immediately begins unleashing upon their creator. Dragging cables and equipment with them as they run from sector to sector, the Autobots are forced to redistribute the flow of power throughout Primus's body, shutting down the black hole-stabilizing beam in an attempt to restore the god's mobility. At the last second, just after Starscream shatters the shield and unleashes a blast from his Cyber Key-powered cannon, the final connection is made, and Primus springs into life, deflecting Starscream's shot with a wave of his open palm.

Primus calls upon a Cyber Key of his own, activating giant cannons in his forearms, but Starscream is able to detonate his blasts with a swipe of his arm, and remains undeterred. Nobody is prepared for Primus's next amazing move, however: projecting beams of energy from his hands, Primus lassos his own moons, transforming the two satellites into planetary-scale flails which he uses to mercilessly pummel Starscream. A series of irresistible blows from these moon-flails sends Starscream slamming into a nearby rocky planetary body, which actually explodes from the impact. Starscream is consumed in the cosmic explosion, and, his energy drained, shrinks back down to his prior height. As his charred body floats amidst the remains of the planet, and he weakly vows to continue reaching for power, Sideways steers the Atlantis nearby and activates its warp system, teleporting Starscream away alongside it.

Down on Primus's surface, Coby collapses in tears at the sight of the Atlantis disappearing, taking his brother with it. The Autobots are silent as the boy cries, when suddenly, Vector Prime bursts into the room with the news that will change everything: he has located the gate to Gigantion!
Notes
Differences with Galaxy Force
*Galaxy Force includes a "previously on" segment summarizing the events of "Family".
*In Cybertron, Optimus Prime worries about Coby and Lori, thinking about how hard they are working and wishing that he could do more to help them. In Galaxy Force, he is more concerned with Wing Saber and Jetfire's ability to work together in their search.
*Galaxy Force consistently refers to "Primus's spark" when talking about his energy, with such odd turns of phrase as "focusing his spark on his chest" and "restore the spark to the other parts of his body". As that's... well, not really what a spark is, Cybertron touches the dialogue up to simply talk about his energy.
*In Galaxy Force, the battle between Primus and Starscream is not accompanied by music, and no sound escapes Primus' mouth.
*Upon Starscream's defeat, Cybertron has Sideways comment: "Guess I'm in business for myself!" which is just completely wrong, because he picks up Starscream and they're still working together in the next episode. Galaxy Force just has him say it's time for a retreat.

Animation or technical glitches
*As he and Crumplezone recline in the Atlantis, Ransack is missing the black "mask" that normally surrounds his eyes.

*When Lori says "they're enormous" in reference to Primus's moon flails her mouth is oddly on the side of her face leaving her lips from the side view intact.

Real-world references
*Upon witnessing Starscream and Primus's battle, Scattorshot exclaims "Talk about when worlds collide!", referring to the 1932 science fiction novel of the same name.

Trivia
* Galaxy Force introduces its fifth and final opening sequence with this episode. This opening stands out in comparison to the four prior sequences by at last being composed almost entirely of new footage, versus the heavy use of clips and stock footage seen in the other openings. A little stock footage appears (Prime and Wing Saber's Sonic Wing Mode combination, Dark Claw Mode and Sonic Wing Mode's "super moves"), while unique footage includes: Override outracing all the other Autobots on a track; the kids watching as the Autobots swoop down out of the air; a long pan of the assembled Autobot forces; individual shots of the planet leaders standing in front of their worlds (with Metroplex blacked out for now), along with Sideways and Soundwave appearing in front of Planet X; Starscream standing among flames; the kids looking rather wistfully out over different vistas of nature; Colonel Franklin and Lucy Suzuki at an air force base at sunset on opposite sides of the fence, their backs to one another when the shot pans them pass each other (OTP kawaiii desu neeeee o^-^o); the four Cyber Planet Keys swirling around Primus; Leobreaker and Scourge battling; Jetfire and Thundercracker fighting in mid-air, Thunderblast and Wing Saber engaging in a firefight; and the assembled Autobots and Decepticons staring each other down on the Moon.
*Coby and Lori both start wearing new clothes in this episode. Cybertron doesn't mention where they come from; in the previous episode of Galaxy Force, however, it was noted that Lori's mother packed them.
*Speaking of Coby and Lori, they sure do a lot of snuggling in this episode, as he catches her when she falls, and then doesn't let her go for, like, five minutes. It's one of the first real hints (Lori's nervous laughter at the notion of their getting married in the previous episode being another) at the romance that is going to eventually bloom between the two characters.
*When Starscream becomes planet-sized, he and Primus are in toy scale.
