You don't want to give Big Convoy (ビッグコンボイ Biggu Konboi) a hard time. While most Maximal Supreme Commanders are known for their level-headed and friendly natures, Big Convoy breaks the mold by positively wrecking and ruining anyone who gives him lip. A gargantuan bruiser of a warrior, he tramples the opposition in his woolly mammoth beast mode and utterly obliterates them in robot mode with his Big Cannon. He is known throughout the Maximal ranks as "The One-Man Army", a solitary Supreme Commander who can do the work of a whole battalion all on his lonesome.

So of course the Convoy Council felt he would make a perfect training instructor for a batch of new recruits freshly minted from the Maximal Military Academy. While it takes every ounce of restraint Big Convoy can muster not to completely throttle the green little twerps, deep down he kinda-sorta likes them. Or he's getting there, anyway. Vector Sigma has taken a special interest in Big Convoy and often speaks through him via the Energon Matrix in his chest. And with each lesson in warfare he imparts to his new recruits, Big Convoy in turn learns a lesson about friendship and teamwork.
Big Junior (ビッグジュニア Biggu Junia) was the son of Blue Big Convoy, a radical estranged from the Convoy Council because of his egalitarian opinions regarding the relationship between Convoys and other Transformers. The two fought at each other's side till one fateful day where they battled a mysterious group who sought out Angolmois Energy. Blue Big Convoy sacrificed himself to destroy the villains and to save Big Junior. The elder mammoth used his last words to teach a weeping Big Junior the true meaning of being a "Convoy" and gave his arm to replace Big Junior's destroyed one. Big Convoy once operated as a duo with Rockbuster and the two fought Predacons and adventured together. However, their solitary natures eventually drove them apart and both warriors decided to become solo acts in the war against the Predacons. Dinosaur Combiner Magmatron Big Convoy's decision to go it alone brought him into conflict with the Maximal drill instructor Survive, a stern believer in the value of teamwork. They parted on shaky ground, with Survive determined to someday teach Big Convoy how to work in a group. Survive the Hot-Blooded Instructor As "the One Man Army" (the nickname he quickly earned), Big Convoy focused his energies on thwarting the machinations of Magmatron, the new leader of the Predacon forces. After a particularly explosive assault on a stronghold, the two became arch-foes.

Hoping to curb Big Convoy's psychotically antisocial behavior, the Convoy Council ordered him to train a crew of unruly new recruits. Big Convoy loathed the assignment at first, but being a loyal soldier, accepted the task. His first mission was to explore Gaia and investigate the disappearance of Lio Convoy. Little did he know, Magmatron and his Predacons were following close behind him. After finding a black box message from Lio Convoy, Big Convoy learned of the Angolmois Capsules ejected after the destruction of Nemesis. Big Convoy then headed off with his group of trainees to collect the capsules, battling Magmatron every step of the way. Big Convoy, Move Out

Long before Lio Convoy and Galvatron's Gaian battles took place, Big (ビッグ Biggu) the mammoth lived on a cold, primitive world in the 7th Cosmos. When an Angolmois Capsule fell on the planet, it evolved Big and other beasts, who were then led by a Giganotosaurus, and the capsule came to be known as the Divine Stone. The resulting gang turned violent and, when he wasn't around, murdered Big's friends.

When the time-lost Lio Convoy ended up on Big's planet, he came face to face with the dinosaurs, and was saved in the nick of time by Big. After some introductions, Big brought Lio Convoy to the Divine Stone, but they were confronted by the evil creatures. Big was wounded in the battle, but the mammoth managed to push them all into the crevasse containing the stone, which exploded, further evolving the dinosaurs into full-fledged Transformers with robot modes. Lio Convoy was able to take down the mooks, but was easily defeated by the union of the Giganotosaurus with a Quetzalcoatlus and a Elasmosaurus—Magmatron. When the villains made their leave, Lio Convoy recovered and found the mammoth dying in the snow. Regretting his involvement, Lio Convoy used his Energon Matrix to cure the animal. The process evolved Big into the Maximal Big Convoy, but he was left alone and amnesiac in the raging snowstorm. The Beast Wars "Neo" Begin!!!

Beast Wars Neo manga
Big Convoy would join the Maximals, becoming the notorious "One Man Army". During one battle, he disregarded Crow Convoy's orders by rushing into a Predacon space fortress and blowing it up; the resulting shockwave damaged the Maximal Army 7th Fleet. For his insubordination, Great Convoy punished Big Convoy by making him the instructor of five rookie Maximals on the planet Gaia. He took a lackadaisy approach, commanding his students from the Gung Ho, but came to their rescue when they encountered lethal Predacons on the abandoned Galvaburg II. Inside, they found the mysterious Black Ball. When it was brought aboard the Maximals' ship, it suddenly activated the warp engine. The 5 Rookies The Black Ball revealed itself to be capable of speech and told the story of the war between Lio Convoy and Galvatron, and the Maximal commander's name stirred something in Big Convoy.

When the warp dropped the Gung Ho in Luxor's orbit, it was immediately attacked by the Predacon flagship Dinosaur. The Gung Ho crashed into an asteroid, but not before Big Convoy sent his subordinates on escape pods to Luxor. While repairing the Gung Ho with NAVI, Big Convoy investigated Lio Convoy's record, finding nothing that connected them two. When the rookies down on Luxor were attacked by the Predacons Dead End and Sling, Big Convoy leapt to the planet to their rescue, managing to drive them away and prevent the planet's Angolmois Capsule from falling into the enemy's hands. There Are 7 Capsules Their time on the planet was far from over, as the planet's sand was revealed to be actually made up of millimeter-long robots called Sandron, who refused to allow the Maximals to leave the planet with the Capsule and threatened to eat them from the inside out. They attempted to sow confusion by assembling themselves into duplicates of the Maximals, but the Gung Ho was repaired in time to take the Maximals off the planet, and Big Convoy managed to use some deft gunfire to hold back the Sandron before they naturally dissipated thanks to the removal of the Angolmois Capsule from the planet. 100000000000000000 Grains of Sandron!!

The Maximals next went to Greengard for its Angolmois Capsule. After appointing Stampy the leader of that particular retrieval mission, Big Convoy stayed behind on the Gung Ho, where he awaited the arrival of the Dinosaur. After burying it in an avalanche, Big Convoy came face-to-face with Magmatron himself, who taunted the Maximal about his knowledge of Big Convoy's origins. After a fierce battle, Big Convoy was able to blast away Magmatron with his Big Cannon and picked up his students, who had succeeded at their mission. Mortal Combat! Twenty Thousand Meters in the Sky The next capsule was detected at Colada's homeworld, Jörmungandr. Leaving Longrack to watch over the Gung Ho, Big Convoy joined his other soldiers to the planet, where they ran into Sling, Dead End, and Saberback. Big Convoy entered a duel with Dead End, but it was eventually interrupted by Saberback, who tried to off Big Convoy on the recently arrived Guiledart's orders. A retaliatory blast from Big Convoy disintegrated Guiledart and breached the world's shell, sucking everything out into space. The Predacons were doomed to the void, and Big Convoy was forced to let go of his Big Cannon to save Break's life, losing it forever. A Battle Fought Alone

Big Convoy and his troops later found themselves within the sanctuary of the Byakurēn, where they found an Angolmois Capsule being worshiped as a holy vessel. The Maximals fought off the cult's evil priests before Kuma Kinkin engaged Big Convoy in one-on-one combat. Big Convoy managed to slice off one of Kuma Kinkin's arms in the ensuing battle, and used the missionary's own Bearnium gauntlet to kill him, stabbing him with it through the forehead. The cult vanquished, Big Convoy and his crew took possession of the capsule. Break Through! The Polar Bear Raging Claw Fist! Next, Big Convoy led his troops to the aquatic planet Wednesday, where they retrieved the fifth Angolmois Capsule after a brief altercation against Rage. {{storylink|To Jellyfish with Love!

The sixth capsule was in the Graviton Prison. Though the Maximals were captured by the malfunctioning robot-guards, Big Convoy used his incredible kicking-strength to bust his crew out of their cell. With the capsule in their possession, the Maximals returned to their ship. The prison's guards attempted once more to stop the by pulling down on the Gung Ho, but Big Convoy once more used his powerful legs to save the day, kicking the guards into a nearby black hole. The Great Escape! Graviton Prison!

For the final capsule, the Black Ball led the Maximals to a floating amphitheatre in proximity of Cybertron, where they encountered the surviving Magmatron, who revealed that the Black Ball had led him there and gave him the Blentrons as troops! As events unfolded, though, the Blentrons turned on Magmatron and fed the collected capsules to the Black Ball, from which the face of Unicron emerged. Unicron explained that the last Angolmois Capsule, the divine stone that fell on an icy planet so long ago, was absorbed into the bodies of Big Convoy and Magmatron, a revelation that broke Big Convoy's amnesia. Breaking down from his recovered memories, Big Convoy crouched in tears till Magmatron implored him to keep fighting, and the two joined forces against the Blentrons. Just as the two were about to swoop into Unicron's maw, Heinrad, in actuality an agent of the Ruler of Time and Space, froze time and explained to Big Convoy the threat of Unicron and the Ruler's plan to destroy the universe to remove the threat. After knocking some sense into the despondent Big Convoy, Heinrad was pulled out of the spacetime continuum for his violation of the dogma of noninterference. Away from Unicron, Big Convoy had to watch as the dark god chomped on Magmatron, spitting out his head and his Magma Blade. After being entrusted the sword, Big Convoy used it to end his rival's life and swore to fight against Unicron, who had absorbed Cybertron to become his new body. Double Cross

With the Magma Blade in hand, Big Convoy had the Gung Ho lure Unicron to the clustered planetary system Georgian, where the Maximal crew had Unicron attack planets, setting off explosions that destroyed his limbs. Limbless, Unicron tried to unleash a Blentron army, but it was of little effect to Big Convoy, who dove in and stabbed his eye with the Magma Blade. However, Unicron's dark essence emerged from its eye and plastered itself on Big Convoy's body to take it over. With no option, Big Convoy took the Matrix from his chest and unleashed its power, destroying himself and Unicron in the process. In his dying moments, Big Convoy saw Lio Convoy come to bring his soul to peace.

At Big Convoy's memorial, his former students, now graduated, paid homage to him when Heinrad appeared and took the four to an wintry planet. There, he revealed that Big Convoy's spark was "recycled" by his organization and the commander was reincarnated as an ordinary mammoth without memory or awareness of what came before. As the Maximals—now Convoys—saluted him, the mammoth walked off into the distance. Return to Zero
By one account, Big Convoy was known as the "one robot army" and was assigned by the Maximal Elders to the Gung Ho and its crew of Maximal rookies in a time before the Pax Cybertronia. Together, they defeated Magmatron. Transformers: Beast Wars Sourcebook

In another account, Big Convoy had earned himself a place on the Autobot High Council by the tail-end of the Great War. He was away from their base of operation when news came in that both Optimus Prime and Galvatron had fallen in combat, and so attended a meeting via holographic-projection. After rebranding themselves the "Primal Council", the group discussed their intent to broker an armistice with their enemies, in the hopes of ending the war without further bloodshed. To this end, Big Convoy was sent to a front near the Rust Sea Peninsula. Dawn of the Predacus

Big Convoy was part of Cybertron's Bi-Partate Committee for State Affairs alongside Heinrad and Magmatron. The Gathering issue 1 Because of his distinguished service, he was a high-ranking member of the joint committee. Transformers: Beast Wars Sourcebook

On Cybertron, Big Convoy, along with Tasmania Kid, had been investigating recent disturbances and riots occurring with increasing frequency. He found that the riots had been set off by the use of Angolmois capsules—something which he thought he had seen the last of. Though the rulers of the Maximal Imperium sent their aide, Ikard, to bring Big Convoy to them, he refused to come, citing the importance of getting some control in the field. The Ascending issue 2

Following the trail of the Angolmois incidents, he and his unit were able to locate a monolithic structure jutting from the Cybertronian skyline. Cohrada speculated that the new building was in fact quite ancient, a part of an older era of Cybertron that was thrust up through the substructure. Shokaract emerged from the structure, eager to demonstrate his newfound power. Big Convoy retaliated, transforming into a heavily armed spider-tank alt mode. Magmatron witnessed that unless the timestream was altered, the Maximal leader would also be killed by Shokaract. Thus, the chronally displaced Predacon chose that moment in time for the transwarp coordinates to give to Ravage. Therefore, the battle was interrupted by the appearance of Lio Convoy's transwarp cruiser, sparing Big Convoy. However, this hope was in vain, as it was soon shot down by Shokaract. The Ascending issue 3

Big Convoy later met Bump, a "specialist" sent by Lio Convoy. Soon afterwards, Big Convoy and his soldiers encountered the Pack, along with immigrants from Earth, including Ravage. He participated in the plan and battled with Shokaract's forces. After their enemies were defeated, Lio Convoy and Big Convoy hoped that no threat came up while they were focused on rebuilding Cybertron, which had fallen into a sorry state after Shokaract's distribution of Angolmois. When Scorponok's Majin Zarak threatened the Legends World, Rattrap's Encore Big Convoy toy leapt to the rescue and revealed that all Transformers toys in the Legends World were actually living beings. {{storylink|Targetmaster Chapter Finale: Legends World in Imminent Danger! Nevertheless, the Legends World was destroyed and the regular Big Convoy from that world was forced to evacuate the universe in the Axalon and ended up on Beast. When that planet was attacked by Galvatron II and his Nemesis, Leo Prime forced Transformers sickness onto the Legends World refugees and converted them into forms much like the G1 World's own Beast Warriors. With the other Convoys, Big Convoy destroyed Nemesis's core in a Triple Beast Convoy Matrix Attack. The Road to Legends' Revival Chapter 3
Slammoth was a member of the Cybertronian Navy who served aboard the Gung-Ho, patrolling the Allowed Zone of known space under the watchful eye of the Human Confederacy. Intersectionality

During the Grand Uprising, Slammoth seized control of Gung-Ho from the Builders. He became Supreme Commander of the space vessels controlled by the Resistance as the war went on. In addition to clashing with Builders, Slammoth had several encounters with Razor-Claw, an opportunist Predacon warlord who seized control of Cybertron's three moons, and was initially antagonistic with Lio Convoy's movement.

When the war ended and the Vehicon Apocalypse was routed, Slammoth took part in the negotiations at Dragon's Bane Cathedral in Hyperious to establish a new government. Once the Cybertronian Parliament was hammered into shape, Slammoth became one of the three chosen representatives of the Resistance. Derailment
Hisashi Yuki (TakaraTomy)

: Part of the second wave of Beast Wars Neo products in the Japanese Beast Wars toyline, Big Convoy transforms into an organic mammoth. His beast mode has a rubber trunk which can be controlled by pushing a lever on the top of his head to somewhat simulate his "Mammoth Dynamite" attack. In addition, the tusks can be moved by pulling back either of his ears.

:In robot mode, Big Convoy is absolutely chock-full of weapons and gimmicks:
:#The spring-loaded "Big Cannon" (formed out of the beast's head, back, and tail) can fire two missiles from two barrels in succession with a rotating dial. It is held in his hands via 5 mm post and can be stored on his back.
:#His shoulder armor can be swung up to reveal sculpted, non-firing missile pods.
:#He has flip-out "tonfa" melee weapons in both forearms.
:#The two beast panels on the sides of his legs feature two spring-loaded missile launchers that fire his anchor-shaped "Mammoth Haken" projectiles (similar to the original Beast Wars Ultra Class Megatron toy); the missiles can also be loosely held as melee weapons.
:#His chest panel flips down, revealing the first-ever removable Matrix toy accessory, vacuum-metalized gold with a transparent red center. This accessory can be held by any figure with standard 5mm fist holes.

: Big Convoy technically has a third mode, known as "Mammoth Tank", which is basically just his beast mode with the Big Cannon folded out and his Mammoth Haken launchers deployed. Yay.

: This toy is somewhat infamous for being a shellformer, as practically all of his beast mode components are shells that fit around the compressed robot to form this mode. Much of his kibble can be detached from the main figure to form the majority of his beast mode on its own.

: Sonokong released Big Convoy as "Mammolike" in the Korean Beast-War Neo toyline. This release features no changes to the toy itself, with the only differences being the packaging and bio cards.

: Big Convoy was redeco-ed and slightly retooled into Nemesis Prime.
:One of the odder Encore reissues (the line was exclusively "Generation 1"-based through its original run, then started putting out newer-series molds after a five-year hiatus), this release of Big Convoy has been extensively redecoed to be more anime-accurate. The most notable changes include his paint and plastic being much more matte overall, flat white replacing the pearlescent-white and silver, his beast mode pelt is a darker brown, his gold parts have changed to yellow, and his beast eyes are now white with pupils.

:This release of Big Convoy displays considerably well with the Masterpiece Lio Convoy and anime colored Optimus Primal toys. With all three of the figures being roughly the same height, it is extremely accurate to the respective cartoon scales.

:Somehow topping the previous Encore release in the "wait what?" category, this rerelease of Big Convoy has no deco changes from the original Beast Wars Neo version, but does have a lot of new parts added to it.

: The centerpiece is the massive "Matrix Buster" cannon accessory (as used in the penultimate episode of the Neo anime), which can store the retooled Energon Matrix with collapsible handles, and has two flexible tubes that plug into his waist-piece. Completing the cartoon-based configuration are two small turbine-like parts that extend his hip-mounted mammoth legs by plugging in between the legs and the removable feet, exploiting a facet of the toy's construction that was not considered a play "feature" prior.

: Finally, this set also includes a small NAVI figurine. Yay!
A chance encounter leads young Robby and Mo Malto to witness the birth of two new Transformers.

Synopsis
Under the cover of night, a spider-like robot observes as a lone buggy and SUV enter a train yard. The infiltrators, Swindle and Hardtop, transform to robot mode and open a container to reveal an Autobot energon stash. The two are giddy that the tip Swindle received was accurate, but their celebration is interrupted by the arrival of Optimus Prime, followed by Elita-1 bursting from hiding in another container. Optimus orders the two to surrender, noting that the war is long over and offering them a chance at peace. The two Decepticons refuse, however, and open fire before making a quick getaway. Elita pursues and engages them in a two-on-one brawl, dodging their blows and knocking them into the surrounding box cars to arrange them into a makeshift barrier around the two. Revealing that she was the one who gave Swindle the false tip to bait them, she warns them to duck moments before one last container thrown by Optimus lands on top of them. As Optimus approaches, Swindle still refuses to surrender, commenting that there's no way they'll find all the Decepticons left on Earth, but they are interrupted as the spiderbot leaps out and attacks Swindle. Optimus pulls it free, but he quickly finds himself under assault by more of its kind. Swindle takes the opportunity to run while Optimus quickly dispatches the drones. As Hardtop is placed in a prison transport, Elita and Optimus investigate the remains of one of the creatures, curious as to its origins and whether it relates to the recent rumors of Decepticons disappearing. A group of more spiderbots follow the transport and its escorts as they approach the town of Witwicky, Pennsylvania...

That same night elsewhere in Witwicky, teenager Robby Malto has rigged up a makeshift satellite dish from spare parts with help from his sister Mo, attempting to get a cell phone signal. The device begins to work, but the two are interrupted as their father Alex calls them down for dinner. As the family eats, Robby expresses frustration with his parents for moving the family from Philidelphia to the middle of nowhere for his mother Dot's new park ranger job. As the argument comes to a head, Robby storms off to his room. Mo offers to try and talk to him, but when she arrives upstairs, she finds Robby absent, having snuck out and taken off on his bike.

Mo pursues Robby, who declares he is heading back to Philly on his own. As she attempts to keep up, the chain dislodges from her bike, leaving her stuck. Seeing this, Robby turns around and agrees to fix the bike before he leaves, but his repairs are interrupted as the massive prison transport begins coming up behind them him. The two siblings attempts to run, but find themselves blocked on the opposite side by approaching spiderbots. The drones open fire on the convoy, flipping the transport truck, and the Maltos barely manage to escape as it comes crashing down, the two landing in a gulley below. Robby offers to take Mo back to the house, but when she asks if this means he's staying, Robby continues to refuse. Mo calls out Robby on his change in behavior, and the two get into a screaming match, but their attention is drawn to a nearby cave when it starts glowing with a strange blue light. Curious, they look inside, finding it empty, only for the floor to give way beneath them, and they fall deeper inside.

As they come to a stop, the two find themselves in front of a glowing pool, with a strange rock sitting in the middle. Investigating closer, Robby accidentally knocks the rock from its plinth. As he and Mo place it back, the rock and surrounding pool begin to glow with green light, as a mysterious voice calls them the "legacy of hope". Strange tendrils emerge from the stone and wrap around the children's arms, preventing them from letting go, before coalescing into strange mechanical gauntlets on their arms. More shocking, however, is when two creatures begin forming from the energy in the water, coalescing into large humanoid machines. As the light fades, Robby and Mo are initially frightened by the newcomers, but to their surprise, it seems the two are just as frightened of them. The kids realize that not only can they somehow sense the robots' feelings through their new "cyber-sleeves", but they now know their names to be Twitch and Thrash, the same way that the bots now know theirs. Realizing they are now connected by the cyber-sleeves, the humans cautiously approach and offer a hand in friendship, which the bots reciprocate. A spiderbot spots the four and attacks, but Twitch suddenly manifests a laser cannon and blasts it before it can do any harm. Robby realizes that the two are Transformers, and the siblings decide to bring them home with them. Unbeknownst to them, footage of the encounter is being observed by the spiderbots' creator, who now has Hardtop in his captivity. As one of the spiderbots removes Hardtop's arm, the scientist teases that he has big plans for Hardtop...

The Maltos lead Twitch and Thrash to their barn, where they intend to hide the pair until they can figure out how to explain the situation to their parents. Promising to help them learn more about being Transformers in the morning, Robby and Mo give the bots some Transformers comic books to read as a head-start. The next morning, Robby wakes up to find Mo struggling to keep the eager bots under control. As Dot leaves for work, she narrowly avoids spotting the bots in an impromptu game of hide-and-seek. Realizing the comics might not have been the best approach to teaching, Robby and Mo decide to instead use their father's extensive Transformer knowledge to assist them. Hiding the bots in the barn again, they lure Alex outside with a picnic and ask him to retell the story of how the Transformers came to Earth. Alex explains that the Transformers hail from the planet Cybertron, where the Autobots and Decepticons battled for millions of years before eventually arriving on Earth via spacebridge in 1984. There, the Autobots were aided by brave human allies, including Dot, against the Decepticons. For the sake of the universe, Optimus Prime ultimately decided to destroy the spacebridge, cutting them all off from Cybertron in the hopes that the humans and Cybertronians could coexist peacefully, ending the war, though Alex's idol Bumblebee hasn't been seen since. Though they listen to the story, Twitch and Thrash still feel disconnected from the other Transformers and their history, and instead want to learn more about Earth.

On her way to work, Dot comes across the wreckage of the prison transport and begins to block off the area, only for Optimus and Elita to arrive shortly thereafter, much to her displeasure. Optimus warns the former lieutenant that Witwicky may be in danger, but Dot reminds him that their association ended after the war. However, Optimus and Elita reveal that her park ranger position was arranged by G.H.O.S.T., a secret military organization they work with to ensure peaceful human-Cybertronian relations, so Dot would be closer to their headquarters. Before Dot can properly process the circumstances, their attention is drawn to the sound of an approaching military helicopter. Touching down in front of them, the tiltrotor transforms into a massive robot.

Megatron has arrived.

Notes
Continuity notes
*While the animation style of Alex's story seems to imply that EarthSpark is a sequel to the original cartoon, there's simply too many incongruities both big and small for that to be possible, such as Grimlock being around on Cybertron as opposed to built on Earth, or the Autobots coming to Earth via spacebridge in the 80s rather than via the Ark millions of years ago. Photos of the war in later episodes also depict characters in their current appearances and animation style. Like the use of original cartoon footage in the premiere episode of Transformers Animated, it's best not to take it literally as an indicator of continuity placement and just enjoy it for the awesome tribute that it is.

Transformers references
*Hardtop, and his status as Swindle's brother, is a reference to the Cybertron character.
*We get our first look at energon, which is notably pink (a color usually kept for Generation 1 media), instead of the blue color used in more recent cartoons like 2015's Robots in Disguise and Cyberverse
*Optimus drops the series' first "more [...] than meets the eye" while observing the Arachnamech.
*The town of Witwicky shares its names with the Witwicky family, several members of which appear as allies of the Autobots in various stories dating back to the start of the franchise.
*The language that appears during the creation of Twitch and Thrash is the now commonly-used Ancient Autobot font. Translating it reveals the same phrase uttered by the mysterious voice, "legacy of hope".
*The comics the kids give to Twitch and Thrash feature art heavily inspired by the original Marvel comic. Notably, it uses the same title and logo as IDW's The Transformers: More than Meets the Eye, which character designer Nick Roche worked on. Seaspray also puts in an appearance on one of the covers.
*Alex's history of the Transformers is, of course, one big, geeky, glorious homage to the original cartoon, filled with tons of little nods and references.
**Alex notes that the Transformers arrived on Earth on September 17, 1984, the original airdate of the premiere episode, "More than Meets the Eye, Part 1".
**The subsequent flashback sequence is rendered using the same limited 2D animation as the original, with all the characters rendered using their original animation models, and some poses and scenes being directly redrawn from the original series. The aspect ratio even shrinks from widescreen to 4:3!
**Alex's introduction of Optimus and Megatron sees them quote their lines from their final standoff in The Transformers: The Movie, even perfectly recreating the character animation.
**Thundercracker's attack pose during the melee scene in space is redrawn from "Divide and Conquer", while Jazz's is from the first season's commercial bumper.
**The spacebridge is closely based on its appearance in episodes such as "Divide and Conquer" and "Transport to Oblivion". As Optimus emerges from it, his run towards the camera is based on a sequence from "More than Meets the Eye, Part 3" that also appeared in the credits sequence.
**Optimus's pose while standing in the spacebridge to Earth is taken from the end of "S.O.S. Dinobots".
**Among the Autobots' human allies is Spike Witwicky on Bumblebee's shoulder; the two were close friends in the original cartoon.
**The sequence of the Decepticons running towards the screen is based on a similar shot in the cartoon's first season intro sequence, albeit without Thundercracker and Skywarp in the background this time.
**The shot of Optimus staring up at the sky comes from "More Than Meets The Eye, Part 3".
**The lineup of Autobots shooting down at the spacebridge is pulled from a similar shot in "Transport to Oblivion".
**The image of post-war rebuilding includes a shot of Optimus bending down to speak to Spike and Sparkplug Witwicky redrawn from "More than Meets the Eye, Part 2". The crane in the shot also uses Grapple's animation model, though it's unclear whether this is actually Grapple himself.

Real-world references
*The photo of Alex and Dot on Robby's phone is of them cosplaying as the eponymous characters of Men in Black (franchise), with Dot holding a spoon in place of the series' Neuralyzer devices.
*Robby compares Mo cracking the floor with a rock to John Henry.

Animation and technical errors
*In a shot during the skirmish between Elita-1 against Swindle and Hardtop, after Elita nearly topples a shipping container onto Swindle, Hardtop's visor is erroneously colored white.

Trivia
* As a "sneak peek", the episode was released a few days early via the Nickelodeon UK YouTube channel on November 7th; however, the video was region-locked and only accessible to viewers in the United Kingdom.
* Most online distribution platforms, such as Paramount+ and YouTube, do not list this episode separately, instead choosing to combine both parts into a single 44-minute video; the aforementioned Nickelodeon UK YouTube release remains one of the only exceptions.
* The credits feature a dedication to former Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner, who passed away in October 2021.

Hardtop and Swindle traveled to a trainyard in Witwicky on a hot tip, eager to score some unguarded energon. However, the hot tip turned out to be a hot trap, set up by Elita-1, and the pair ended up facing both her and Optimus Prime. Elita alone proved to be more than a match for both Decepticons, boxing them both into an arena of fallen train cars, a perfect setup for Optimus to hurl a boxcar at them. Hardtop pushed his brother out of the way, taking the brunt of the blow. Swindle managed to escape (thanks to interference from a swarm of Arachnamechs), and Hardtop was taken into custody by G.H.O.S.T. agents.

As he was being transported to G.H.O.S.T. headquarters for incarceration, the convoy was attacked by another squad of Arachnamechs, and Hardtop was captured a second time. Secret Legacy, Part 1 The mechs took him to the secret base of their creator, Dr. Meridian, who promptly removed the Decepticon's right arm in order to replace his own missing limb. He then put Hardtop under mental control, turning him into a silent enforcer. Hardtop and several other captured Decepticons were then sent to cover Meridian's escape when Optimus, Megatron, Dot Malto and Elita-1 arrived to rescue his latest prisoners, the new "Terran" Transformers Twitch and Thrash. Hardtop took multiple clumsy swings at Elita, but between the missing limb and the rudimentary mind control dulling his movements, she was able to very quickly take him down.

Following the battle, whatever Meridian had done to the Decepticons wore off, and Hardtop found himself a prisoner once again, this time of his former commander. He and the others were then taken into G.H.O.S.T. custody. Secret Legacy, Part 2

Swindle continued to look for his brother, attacking G.H.O.S.T. trucks and installations to steal gear and info in the hopes of locating Hardtop. Spotting easy suckers in Thrash and Mo Malto, he was able to quickly convince them he was really a good guy just out looking for his missing brother... and while the latter half of that was true, the first part definitely wasn't. He used them to try and steal equipment from a G.H.O.S.T. truck, with Mo able to get through the Transformer-proof energon force field, though he had to drop the ruse and threaten their lives to get her to do so. The timely arrival of Dot and Bumblebee foiled his plans, and Swindle had to run off empty-handed, no closer to finding Hardtop. House Rules
Dr. Arkeville was offered the chance to rule the world by Megatron, in exchange for the Decepticons using his hypno-chips to hypnotize humans to use as slaves. When Megatron then revealed the first part of his plan to Arkeville — to transport Cybertron into Earth's orbit via space bridge and create energon from the natural disasters it would cause—Arkeville was hesitant. Megatron just ordered him to send his slaves to defend the space bridge from the Autobots, who refused to fight back against humans. The Ultimate Doom, Part 1

However, when Soundwave used his audio disruptor waves, the hypno-chips malfunctioned and the slaves escaped. Arkeville told Megatron he needed new ones, and the Decepticons started abducting people from around the world to collect energon from the disasters. When Megatron sent one slave to Cybertron, Arkeville told him that he couldn't control his slaves if they weren't on Earth, but got the response that his control computer had already been replicated on Cybertron. The Ultimate Doom, Part 2

Arkeville then heard about another plan of Megatron's: to let tidal waves slam into some of his generators, creating large amounts of energon. He protested as this would drown all the slaves working near the generators, but Megatron just mocked him. After an heated exchange between Megatron and Starscream, the Decepticon leader told Arkeville to stay away from the backstabbing Air Commander. Arkeville started pondering if Starscream may be the ally he really wanted. Whether or not he made a decision didn't matter, as Starscream just kidnapped him after Megatron had left him to drown in the tidal waves with his slaves. The human mad scientist attempted to produce energon cubes from his brain power for Starscream, but the Decepticon rebuffed him, claiming Arkeville's brain couldn't fill one cube. As Starscream grumbled that he wouldn't be able to take over the Decepticon forces, he and the doctor were discovered by Megatron. Luckily for Starscream, the remaining slaves started malfunctioning due to the Autobots' tampering, which distracted Megatron and let Starscream escape with Arkeville. The Ultimate Doom, Part 3

Starscream and Arkeville took off to Arkeville's secret lab (which was opened by Arkeville saying "Open Sesame"), where the doctor warned Starscream not to mess with his Exponential Generator, as it could destroy Earth. Starscream promptly programmed the generator to reach its maximum capacity in eight hours, planning to absorb the energy from the planet's destruction. Arkeville didn't like this idea one bit, and suggested that he stay behind and make sure "nothing goes wrong", only to be knocked down and brought along to Cybertron. Out of Starscream's sight, Arkeville tried to stop the energy collectors via computer, only to receive a severe electric shock which knocked him unconscious. He later woke up strapped to a table, having been rebuilt more fully into a cyborg by Medicroids in order to save his life.

When the explosion failed to happen as expected, Starscream tried to order Arkeville to Earth to investigate, only for the scientist to sarcastically remind him that he was immobilized by a mechanical chair. Grinning evilly, Arkeville noted that Starscream was the only one who knew how the timing mechanism worked, and that HE was the one who had to go to Earth...
This immaturity is probably why it's sometimes hard to realise that beneath the bravado lies a natural leader, with the right mix of skill, confidence and charisma to draw even the most unlikely ally to his side. Hot Rod is willing to die for his friends without a moment's hesitation. But by living, he's able to inspire them to fight for themselves when it's needed most.
He got into an argument with the speedster when the latter failed to mention that part of the track was being repaired. This altercation was cut short with a crashing repair drone infected by a spreading epidemic and the Autobots were eventually forced to flee the planet in spite of Blurr's initial apprehension to leave his home. However, upon realizing that someone needed to stay behind to operate the space bridge, Blurr volunteered, despite Hot Rod's protests, revealing he had unwittingly caught the plague himself and couldn't risk spreading it. :Released as part of the third wave of Cyberverse 1-Step Changers, Hot Rod uses the same engineering as The Last Knight 1-Step Cogman and transforms from supercar into a robot by twisting the back section of the vehicle. His left arm also features a "Fusion Flame" Action Attack, a spinning saw that homages his Generation 1 counterpart's sawblade.

:Part of the third wave of Cyberverse Warrior Class toys, Hot Rod is a deluxe-sized mold that transforms from a robot into a supercar and back. Like all Warrior Class toys, Hot Rod features an Action Attack gimmick; his "Fusion Flame" pops out transparent blue flame effects from little doors in his arms when they are spread outwards. This makes it look like the exhaust pipes on his forearms are jetting flame, just not really in the direction you'd expect for an attack...
: Part of the first Series of Cyberverse Tiny Turbo Changers, Hot Rod is a soft-plastic robot who transforms into a tiny Cybertronian supercar. In robot mode, his shoulder-pipes have flames shooting upwards, which don't have enough clearance to not bump into his back-spoiler, limiting his "useful" arm articulation.
Like the other Ultra Class toys, Hot Rod features a flip-out armor gimmick and he features a crossbow weapon.

:This item was revealed via a leak from a Japanese catalog page before Hasbro announced it. Speaking of leaks, this Hot Rod was meant to be released for the Japanese markets by TakaraTomy, under the name "TCV-36 Weapon Trigger Hot Rod" with an April 2020 release date. Unfortunately, unlike the Deluxe Class figures, the toy's release is canceled due to either poor sales or the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, or both.
:Cyberverse Ultimate Class Hot Rod is a roughly leader-sized figure which transforms from robot mode to a Cybertronian supercar in approximately 9 steps. Pulling out the weapon accessory made from the car flames on his hood activates a spinning "Twist-N-Change" feature that rotates Hot Rod's torso in order to finish the transformation. This gimmick can also be activated in robot mode. His articulation in robot mode is limited, mostly confined to his arms. The figure also features a spring-loaded Energon Armor gimmick that flips down over Hot Rod's torso.
Notes
*As with several Cyberverse main characters, Hot Rod uses an evergreen design inspired by his Generation 1 counterpart.
*Hot Rod's "Stealth Force" coloration taken on during the events of Season 3 features dark red surfaces which the corresponding toys omit entirely. This leaves them bearing a striking resemblance to Dark Hot Rod, and this is indeed how the character is credited in "The Loop"! This paint-job also homages his live-action counterpart.
*Rodimus Prime was never considered for the show, but the crew was adamant about portraying Hot Rod as someone who wanted to be a leader and was learning to be one.
*During the production of Chapter Two, the crew wanted Hot Rod to be super into Earth culture, such as winning races and driving off before humans could realize no one was in the car. However, they never had time to really get into that.

Vos
Vos is one of Cybertron's many city-states. It borders Tarn, presumably close to Iacon's borders. Vos is rich in energy sources, granting it independence from the other city-states.

Fiction
Generation 1 continuity family
Marvel UK Comics continuity
Starscream was the figurehead of the ruling body of Vos prior to the city's destruction and the outbreak of the Great War. At this time, the city-states had grown hostile to one another in a fight over Cybertron's dwindling energy sources and Vos was no exception; like all the large cities, it monopolised resources and just like Tarn, it used them to build up a vast army. Vos agreed to a plan of the Overlord of that era to hold gladiatorial matches to settle disputes peacefully and bring the city-states together, but only to keep itself unsuspicious.

One night, the soldier-gladiators of Vos broke into Tarn's power plant, which had been staffed minimally ever since the Games had commenced, with the intent to blow it up. The full plan was to plant evidence of Iacon's involvement, which would bring the two city-states to war and leave a power vacuum for Vos to fill up, at which point it would conquer the planet! That latter part was thwarted by the unexpected arrival of the plant's second engineer, who was murdered by the saboteurs, but not before he had contacted security.

Despite the warning, Vos managed to place and detonate the explosives, violently illuminating the power plant's surroundings shortly after the agents got home safely. Yet because Tarn knew who was really responsible, the plan had failed and Vos was declared war to rather than Iacon. The hostilities that followed between the two city-states forced many of their inhabitants to flee to other cities, among which Iacon. Iacon provided for the refugees, but its council refused to put its own troops at risk by interference in the conflict, going so far as to suggest that maybe it was in Iacon's interest to see the two city-states gone.

Tarn and Vos eventually destroyed each other when they launched a photon missile each at the same time. Megatron recruited many of the survivors into his new Decepticon army by laying the blame on Iacon, which could have stopped the war. State Games

The Official Transformers: Generation 2 Annual
Sideswipe used to be a member of the civil defense forces of Vos. The city was destroyed by a Decepticon attack, giving Sideswipe a motivation to join the Autobots.

2005 IDW continuity
The "Disappeared" Transformers Freeflight, Ice-Vent, Katastrophus, Lookout and Wheelfire all hailed from Vos. Dissolution Part 2: Anomie As Megatron recruited his Decepticon army from the gladiatorial games, he mentioned some of the home cities of the combatants, including Vos. Megatron Origin issue 3

Beast Wars: Uprising
Vos was located in Cybertron's northern hemisphere. During the Grand Uprising, it became a contested battlefront, pitting loyalist Builder forces against the Resistance. Safe Spaces Some Builders and their loyalists chose to flee into the neighboring city of Iacon to the north, including Twirl. Trigger Warnings

War for Cybertron Trilogy marketing material
During the war for Cybertron, Vos became the location of Decepticon Air Command—home to the Seekers that patrolled Cybertron's cities. In the midst of the war, the Decepticon, Starscream, rose to prominence among his fellow Seekers, becoming their Air Commander. Source:Teletraan-1 Data Files
2021 IDW Beast Wars comic
In the era of the Maximals and Predacons, Vos was home to the Great Shipyard, where transwarp capable starships were held. Some Predacon separatists blew it up to steal an escape ship. Savage Landing Part 1
Vos had a great rivalry with its neighbor Tarn. To pacify the two states, Vos was made the base of the Cybertronian Air Command. It was neutral in the civil war despite Starscream's support for Megatron, until Shockwave seized control. Engaging in some power politics, Shockwave requested the Air Commanders bomb those areas of Tarn he blamed for sheltering Autobots, before a mysterious missile strike was launched on Vos, eliminating the Air Commanders and Starscream's support.
