David Wise (??, 1955 — March 3, 2020) was an American television animation writer. He was perhaps best known as the head writer for the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, where he wrote or co-wrote over seventy episodes (and story-edited many more). He was also the single most prolific writer for the The Transformers cartoon, penning fifteen episodes.

Wise passed away of lung cancer at the age of 65 on March 3, 2020.
Notes
*Wise was a large fan of the Doctor Who series, claiming to have inserted the line "reverse the polarity" whenever he could in his writing; in Transformers, that happened in "The Rebirth, Part 3". Meanwhile, in "The Rebirth, Part 2", one of the Nebulan Hive rallies that they must "exterminate! exterminate!" the newly created Headmasters.
*Wise was interviewed as a special feature for Kid Rhino's The Transformers Season 3 Part 2 and Season 4 DVD set.
*The character of Sōji Yoshikawa is named after the real-life animator Sōji Yoshikawa, who was a co-worker of Wise's during his time working at DiC Entertainment.

Recycle-o-matic
David Wise frequently recycled concepts and ideas from older work for use in later scripts. As a result, many Transformers set pieces, concepts and even plots wound up appearing in other series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in particular, while many other ideas seem to have actually started life as plots for earlier series, such as He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Which Transformers stories were recycled? Wellll...

*"Attack of the Autobots" — Recycled for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode "Slash - The Evil Turtle from Dimension X" (specifically, the rocket chase sequence during the climax).
*"Day of the Machines" — Recycled from the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe episode "Day of the Machines" (specifically, the computer program that takes over other machines). Later recycled for the Defenders of the Earth episode "Audie and Tweak" (specifically, an evil supercomputer—represented by a giant ugly face on a screen—that remotely controls or influences other machines and taunts the heroes as they enter its lair), The New Adventures of Speed Racer episode "B.O.S.S." (specifically, an evil computer system controlling other machines by placing remote command devices on them), and the Mighty Ducks episode "The Return of Dr. Droid" (specifically, an evil computer that takes control of various machines and makes them attack the heroes).
*"Microbots" — Recycled from the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe episode "Day of the Machines" (specifically, the sequence where a character shrinks down and enters a machine to fix/sabotage it). Recycled again for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode "Shredder & Splintered".
*"Kremzeek!" — Recycled from the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe episode "Day of the Machines" (specifically, the little energy-based monster that makes trouble). Later recycled almost completely for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode "The Big ZIPP Attack", and once again for The Mighty Ducks episode "Zap Attack". Also recycled for the Defenders of the Earth episode "Audie and Tweak" (specifically, the heroes' computer babbling nonsensically after being affected by an outside force).
*"Auto-Bop" — Recycled for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode "Corporate Raiders from Dimension X" (specifically, the villains brainwashing people in New York to build a doomsday device via a phony business).
*"The Girl Who Loved Powerglide" — Recycled wholesale for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode "Poor Little Rich Turtle" (specifically, every character, motivation and set piece).
*"Trans-Europe Express" — Recycled for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode "Hot Rodding Teenagers from Dimension X" (specifically, the weather machine that goes out of control in the climax and has to be destroyed in midair).
*"The Rebirth, Part 3" - Recycled for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode "Shredder & Splintered" (specifically, the circumstances where Galvatron and Lord Zarak bicker over leadership being nearly identically reused for Krang and Shredder, right down to the dialogue, "We shall see...").
A mighty foe requires a special prison, and that's why Megatron has had a special Autobot prison built to hold them in. Unfortunately he built it before he and his men had any idea how they were going to get the Autobots inside it, but those details can be worked out later.

Fiction
Coloring books
Once the prison was completed, Megatron instructed his men to trap the Autobots so they could be imprisoned within it. With the aid of Sleep Nets, the majority of the Autobots were soon rounded up and the Decepticons could carry on with their plans to conquer Earth without danger of being foiled. Unfortunately they'd overlooked Bumblebee. While Spike and Sparkplug Witwicky kept the Decepticons distracted, Bumblebee slipped into the prison and freed the other Autobots. Bumblebee to the Rescue!
As battle rages on Cybertron's surface, the Wreckers infiltrate the Warworld, but when their confrontation with Bludgeon goes wrong, help arrives in a most unexpected form!

Synopsis
Cybertron is a battlefield: Omega Supreme and Monstructor grapple, Soundwave and Blaster engage in a sonic duel, Ultra Magnus leads the charge against the army of Blitz Engines, and the airborne Autobots unleash their combined firepower against the Warworld. Bludgeon permits the Decepticons to join the fighting themselves, but surprises them by electing to remain on the Warworld, secretly aware that the Wreckers have managed to land a ship on the giant craft's surface and have penetrated its hull.

In the Primus chamber, deep within Cybertron, Grimlock awakens, free of possession by Primus and needing to be brought up to date by his Dinobots. As they attempt to talk, the demons come spilling into the chamber, and a furious Grimlock, his eyes glowing with the power of Primus, transforms to dinosaur mode. The roar he unleashes takes the fight right out of the creatures and sends them into genuflections. The Dinobots proceed to head back to the surface, and the demons loyally follow their new master, prompting Slag to recall Hot Rod's plan to reintegrate the Cybertronian race, and Grimlock to speculate that this is all part of some grand plan...

Aboard the Warworld, Bludgeon launches a sudden, vicious solo attack on the Wreckers, affecting their perceptions with his Metallikato mind-tricks and walking all over them. Roadbuster urges Kup to escape and locate their primary target—the reservoir of Matrix energy animating the Blitz Engines—but Bludgeon pursues the elderly Autobot as he makes for the craft's bridge on a rail-transport car.

Down on the planet's surface, the Decepticons join the fight, pushing the Autobots back even further. Crosshairs is not optimistic for the conflict's outcome, but Ultra Magnus holds out hope for a miracle, even as the bridge his team is standing on is blown out from under them. But he is not wrong to hope: that miracle soon arrives in the form of the Dinobots, who, along with the loyal demons, tear into the Decepticons and their weapons or war. The tide of battle is turning, as Blaster claims victory over Soundwave, circumventing his opponent's senses-distorting sonic trickery by simply bombarding him with face-rocking tunes.

On the Warworld's bridge, Bludgeon stands over a fallen Kup, preparing to deliver a killing stroke with his sword, when suddenly, in a flash of light, Hot Rod returns from his trip through Zero Space, now transformed by the power of the Matrix into Rodimus Prime! Stunned by Rodimus's ability to snatch his sword out of the air, Bludgeon realizes that Rodimus is the opponent who is fated to destroy him, and demands that he grant him his destined death. Rodimus is only too happy to oblige, seizing the skeletal samurai's leg and hurling him through the Warworld's "windshield". Sent hurtling down to Cybertron's surface, Bludgeon burns up as enters the planet's atmosphere, and dramatically explodes on impact. Just when Rodimus and Kup think they have a moment's respite, however, the Warworld begins to quake: Starscream, urged on by Shockwave, has had an attack of conscience, and has returned with the Ark to bring the legendary vessel's firepower to bear on Bludgeon's ship! As the Warworld comes apart around them, the Wreckers race to abandon ship.

Down below, the fight has definitively tipped in the Autobots' favor: with the Warworld crumbling, the flow of Matrix energy being projected to the Blitz Engines ceases, and the drones begin staying down under the Dinobots' and demons' assault. Magnus leads one last mighty push back against the Decepticons, and Omega Supreme triumphs over Monstructor, blasting him to bits. The Warworld explodes, filling the sky with fire, but as the onlooking Autobots cheer, aboard the Wreckers' craft—safely making its way back to the planet's surface—Rodimus Prime is not yet ready to celebrate. The visions shown to him by Primus in Zero Space still haunt his memory... as within Cybertron, the face of the Transformers' creator-god begins to glow...

"Why are we even still here?"<br>
"For the simple reason, Starscream, you have yet to specify a new flight plan."
:—Starscream being clueless and Shockwave being logical. Some things never change.

"Maybe you're right Soundwave. Compared to you, I am just a blunt instrument. But my philosophy...<br>
KERAAANNNNG!!!<br>
"...is play to your strengths!"
:—Blaster turns the volume up and wins the final round of Guitar Hero from Soundwave

"Final computation: I have taken your measure, gestalt...and found it wanting!"
:—Omega Supreme, delivering the killing blast through Monstructor's midsection

"Autobots--one last charge! Those...creatures are fighting and dying for Cybertron! Can we do less?"
:—Ultra Magnus, maybe there was something to Hot Rod's Plan to bring the Demons to the surface after all

Notes
Errors
*In his appearance on the Warworld's bridge, Skullcruncher is almost completely miscolored. His face is colored green, instead of the toy and comics' gold. In addition to his arms sporting the same shade of green, it's a much lighter green than he was portrayed with in the original Marvel run, and there's no pink to be found. His beast altmode isn't shown anywhere in the story, so it's left to the caption to tell us who he is.

Continuity notes
*Snarl's popped back up after being oddly absent from issue #94; guess he was just off-panel for the whole thing!
*We saw Bludgeon's vision of his own death in issue #93. That seemed to imply he had died on the battlefield, but that's not quite how things unfold here.
*Blaster, in defeating Soundwave, notes that "The flip-side to hyper-senses [is] hyper-pain". This was, of course, the nucleon-derived affliction Blaster himself suffered from during his time in the Nursery, as seen in #86.

Transformers references
*Let's be straight-up, here: Blaster and Soundwave never had any kind of rivalry in the Marvel comics. Their grudge match here, along with Omega's throwdown with Monstructor, feels a lot more like Simon Furman tying off stories he started over in the IDW Generation 1 continuity—specifically, in Spotlight: Blaster and Spotlight: Optimus Prime, respectively—that he never got to bring to a conclusion before his time on those books ended. However, Soundwave's attempt to assassinate Blaster in issue #92 certainly supplies a score to be settled, while Monstructor may well be the only Decepticon combiner left after the zombie Predacons, Terrorcons, and Seacons were vaporized in issue #86.
*The more detailed rendering we get of the partially-reconstructed Thunderwing lets us see his inner robot within his Pretender shell, something that never appeared in the Marvel US comics (but did put in a brief appearance in the UK series).
*On page 12, Monstructor clobbers Omega with a statue of Star Saber.
*"Well, that's just prime!" quips Rodimus on page 18, stealing the catchphrase of Optimus Primal.
* When Bludgeon demands death, Rodimus responds with a grim "Request granted." This echoes back to one of his more famous scenes in the Marvel UK series (pictured), from issue #114, when he slew a Decepticon begging for mercy with a roar of "Request denied!"
*Grimlock instructs the demons to "munch metal", one of his more famous quotes from The Transformers: The Movie.
*Magnus squeezes two Furmanisms into one speech balloon as he declares the demons are "fighting and dying for Cybertron! Can we do less?"
The Dinohippus was a kind of prehistoric horse; see, 'cause he's, like, a dinosaur, so he talks about prehistoric equivalent of looking a gift horse in the mouth.
*When Blaster unleashes the sonic blast that fells Soundwave, he strikes an air guitar pose. The sound effect that accompanies this, "Keraaaannng!", is of course an onomatopoeic rendering of an electric guitar power chord, but is also likely a reference to UK rock music magazine Kerrang!.

Recent IDW revelations
Regarding what we've recently learned about Magnus in IDW continuity - including the content of the recent preview for MTMTE #19 - I'd just like to open up what's probably some inevitable discussion by saying that I don't think we need to do any splitting, or creating of new articles, or anything like that. I think the characters' history can all just live here. - Chris McFeely 08:20, 30 July 2013 (EDT)
:In which case, how would we format the fiction section for someone like Minimus who has history before and after Magnus? Maybe a 'for more information, see Ultra Magnus (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity'-type note? Jalaguy 08:52, 30 July 2013 (EDT)
::I wouldn't give Minimus a page, save for as a redirect to here. He has been Ultra Magnus for every appearance of any significance the character has had in IDW continuity, so this page is basically "his". But the original Magnus and the guys who had stood in for him can also be covered here, too, in what'll be little more than a paragraph 'cause there's nothing to them. - Chris McFeely 09:01, 30 July 2013 (EDT)
:::Agreed--we should keep things easy to read, and splitting this into a bunch of character articles would just be messy compared to a single neat "Ultra Magnus as a concept" article. Maybe Minimus will go on to become a character in his own right, and then he can get an article, but for now I too think he can stay here. --Apoc 06:18, 31 July 2013 (EDT)
::::Maybe we could have it like Galvatron II and have him as the main, and the others under the suite? Escargon 06:36, 31 July 2013 (EDT)
:::Is this true? My understanding is that either the original UM or - less likely - one of Tyrest's agents is the one in Autocracy and Monstrosity; we know those two happen before the Battle for Hell's Point, and the UM presented there is killed by Megatron. Magaroja 12:36, 31 July 2013 (EDT)
::::Yeah, per the "fought alongside Orion" bit, it looks like the Autocracy/Monstrosity Magnus is Original Magnus. It *certainly* isn't Minimus, since the deaths we saw in The Gloaming were when the war was in full swing. (I'm for the split, if it wasn't obvious. Redirect this page to Minimus Ambus, put Original Magnus and a note on what happened afterward on Ultra Magnus (G1), and everything else at the names in question) - SanityOrMadness 16:40, 31 July 2013 (EDT)
:::::This is a tricky issue. I understand the desire not to make too many unnecessary pages... but, just like the Galvatron/Galvatron II issue, we have (at least) TWO Ultra Magnuses in the same continuity. The original should definitely get a page, as he's a distinct, named character, and I think Datum and Suture should, as well (heck, Torque has a page and his story is not that much more detailed than Suture's).
:::::That said, while the idea of combining Datum, Suture, and any other Magnus Armor wearers together on this page is not COMPLETELY unpalatable, I'm loathe to include the original Ultra Magnus here; he wasn't an agent of Tyrest, he didn't have any armor, and he wasn't trying to imitate anyone's personality; he was his own dude, and should definitely get his own page. Magaroja 18:04, 31 July 2013 (EDT)
:::::::I agree with SOM. The real Ultra Magnus, the one that belongs under "Ultra Magnus", is dead. Everybody else afterwards has been different characters, including Minimus, and should get their own pages. Mimi 04:15, 1 August 2013 (EDT)
::::::::I'm kind of torn on this. On one hand, the neat freak in me wants everyone to have their own page with their own exploits, but on the other, I wouldn't want to be the poor bastard who's just read Spotlight: Ultra Magnus for the first time, clicks through from the article and finds himself on some dude called Minimus Ambus's page... Jalaguy 04:27, 1 August 2013 (EDT)
:::::::::Ehn, they'd be spoiled regardless of the article's name. And it's already happened with Straxus-Megatron in Marvel UK. Mimi 05:08, 1 August 2013 (EDT)
:I am thoroughly against a split. It's letting pedantry get in the way of presentation, gaining nothing in the process. For all intents and purposes, everyone donning the Magnus armor WAS ULTRA MAGNUS. And pretty much everyone has done nothing NOT as Magnus that we've seen. I think that the IDW page could use an explanatory opener describing the Magnus situation, and I could see an argument for Minimus getting a separate page that covers his non-armored exploits... which Magnus's IDW page would also cover. --M Sipher 14:23, 1 August 2013 (EDT)
:: I think the Magnus page should have the original and info on all those who don the armour. After the original, 'Ultra Magnus' is essentially a rank or title. For presentation purposes though we could add sub-headings with which Magnus we are talking about and link that to other pages if and when we get any more info on them. I also suspect we will find out Minimus's spark brother Dominus was a Magnus at some point and he would be another individual whose own expolits deserve their own page. Mister Jazz 14:36, 1 August 2013 (EDT)
:I think that given the way that characters are treated elsewhere on the Wiki, not splitting the page is unjustifiable for any reason beyond convenience, and that's not a compelling argument since leaving it as-is will also result in confusion. The problem is that Ultra Magnus (G1) has a clear equivalent in Autocracy!Ultra Magnus. The rest of Ultra Magnus' history is the history of an item called the "Magnus Armor" created by a third party. This isn't a Wiki of what the characters believe to be true in the story, but of what is true in the story. Moreover, I STRONGLY suspect that by the end of this arc we will have a new character, with a clear, pre-established name and history, donning the Magnus Armor and possibly even the name "Ultra Magnus." Then what would you do? That said, splitting of the article should certainly not occur at least until we have a new Magnus status quo.
:I really just have to admire how thoughly James Roberts trolls the Wiki. Remember when "Empurata" was a dude? Anguirus 00:19, 2 August 2013 (EDT)
::How will it confuse? The page up-front and clearly points out the history of the Magnuses, the did-nothing-elses who donned the armor. And most of that is a VERY short part of the article. It follows the bot(s) named Ultra Magnus point-by-point chronologically. You'd have to be kinda dumb to not get it, and you think splitting it up among a dozen pages would make it less so? And yes, convenience IS a factor, and a far more compelling one that rigid pedantry. We have ALWAYS operated under flexible rules.
::And as for your hypothetical... so what? That character ceases to be who they were and become Ultra Magnus. We'd continue to chronicle the exploits on Magnus's page, and one could make the argument that we copy-paste said exploits as Magnus onto the prior-existing-character's page. I do NOT want to make people bounce around a buncha pages for no jsutifiable reason other than some people's OCD filing impulses. --M Sipher 01:47, 2 August 2013 (EDT)
:::I'm kinda with Sipher on this - I think Data, Suture and Minimus should have their own pages that detail what (little) we know about them that's not Magnus-related, then an explanation that Tyrest chose them to be Ultra Magnus and a link to the relevant section of this page that details what they did during about their time in the armour. I'm similarly convinced that by the end of Remain in Light there'll be a new Ultra Magnus, at which point that character's page should note that at that point they effectively became Ultra Magnus and link here as well. This page just needs a set of subheadings - "Original Ultra Magnus", "Tyrest's plan", "Suture", "Datum", "Unknown", "Minimus Ambus" and one for the dude who will imminently have Magnushood thrust upon him, naming no names ;) --Emvee 03:12, 2 August 2013 (EDT)
:::This page is about IDW's Ultra Magnus, so this page should be about what Ultra Magnuses did. --ItsWalky 03:28, 2 August 2013 (EDT)
:::"That character ceases to be who they were and become Ultra Magnus." This is not true in any sense whatsoever. Let's get to the end of the arc and decide what makes sense. If you're actually interested in avoiding confusion and centering Ultra Magnus on one page, then different sub-headings are required bare minimum. Anguirus 11:41, 2 August 2013 (EDT)
:I seem to be in the minority at this point, but I just want to re-emphasize that I REALLY don't like keeping the original Ultra Magnus on this page. But whatever. Since we're keeping him here, I DO think it would help matters to give him a distinct section at the beginning of the page; you can insist on it until you're blue in the face, but he's NOT Tyrest's Magnus; no armor, no following any accords that haven't been written yet, etc. I would much prefer an organizational scheme with distinct headers ("The Original" vs "Tyrest's Enforcer" or something) than fully integrating his information in with the other agents as it is now. Magaroja 06:33, 2 August 2013 (EDT)
::Yeah, that is a very different dude who has no relation to the manner in which his corpse was mimicked for other purposes. Anguirus 11:42, 2 August 2013 (EDT)
:::I wouldn't say you're in the minority. Both sides have decent numbers behind them. Mimi 18:30, 2 August 2013 (EDT)
OK I had another crazy idea. If we decide that Minimus Ambus is the equivalent of "Ultra Magnus (G1)", I think that's relatively fair, but then we ought to have a page for Autocracy!UM called "Ultra Magnus (IDW)." The thing that really muddies up the works is not that UM once had a different name or that he's a teeny guy in there, but that there WAS a guy who was born, lived, and died "Ultra Magnus" in addition to later characters who wore Magnus Armor and masqueraded as him. ::::I'm guessing it's something to do with putting the weird, unusual Ultra Magnus on (G1) and putting the guy who works just like every other Ultra Magnus on his own at (IDW)?
::::With regards to this debate, my two cents is that we either leave things as is, or turn this page into UM (IDW), charting the history of the armour, and put the original guy on (G1). Jalaguy 05:54, 5 August 2013 (EDT)
::::Well I wasn't going to elaborate because so many other people have already argued my points in a much more detailed and vehement fashion. But hey, here goes. Splitting out the original Ultra Magnus would make for a tiny article that doesn't benefit in the slightest from being an article by itself, and pretty much violates every practice we have regarding splitting out IDW characters (in that the original is the only one who is the same dude as the other G1 UMs). As for the rest? None of the rest of them have any real history when they're not being Ultra Magnus. At a bare minimum we need all the people who have been Ultra Magnus under one header, and conveniently enough that's already a sub-article. It doesn't need to move.--RosicrucianTalk 11:30, 5 August 2013 (EDT)
:::::I appreciate the elaboration. For my part I thought this: "the original is the only one who is the same dude as the other G1 UMs", was an extremely important point, and why it struck me as unusual that Ultra Magnus' exploits would be chronicled on the same page as people masquerading as him, wearing what may or may not be his actual corpse. But that doesn't seem as important to everyone as it does to me, so I had a brainstorm. At any rate since the first thing I said was "let's not change a thing at least until Remain in Light wraps up" and I have as much clout around here as a one-armed ferret I was surprised that folks disagreed with such...urgency.--Anguirus 10:58, 5 August 2013 (EDT)

For presentation purposes though we could add sub-headings with which Magnus we are talking about and link that to other pages if and when we get any more info on them. The problem is that Ultra Magnus (G1) has a clear equivalent in Autocracy!Ultra Magnus. The rest of Ultra Magnus' history is the history of an item called the "Magnus Armor" created by a third party.
I really just have to admire how thoughly James Roberts trolls the Wiki. Remember when "Empurata" was a dude? Anguirus 00:19, 2 August 2013 (EDT)

Shockwave experimented on three specimens, optimizing them for battle in the gladiatorial arenas of Kaon by turning them into combiners—something that disgusted the gladiator Megatronus. They were primitive to the point of barely possessing a sentient consciousness, but surprisingly capable fighters. The way they moved together gave away their nature as combiners even when separate. Even with one of their number dead, the remaining two could combine into a hovering attack mode.

The trio competed in the gladiatorial Tournament of Champions when they encountered Megatronus. He allowed them to scan a vehicle form before attacking. One emerged from a scrapheap as an all-terrain vehicle with magnetic studded tracks and sought a vantage point on the combat pit's wall, while another sprayed acid on Megatronus's shoulder. Megatronus caught the third Insecticon's multiple, vibrobladed hands and tore an arm off, flinging it into the audience and causing havoc.

Taking fire from the other two, Megatronus made the wounded Insecticon fire his own ion cannon into its neck, killing it in an attempt to ensure there would be no combination. He then slammed the acid-spitter to the floor, but it wriggled away and managed to combine with the ATV, wiring itself into girders while blasting and spitting acid at the gladiator. Megatronus transformed and blasted them, before pinning them down in robot mode and smashing them to pieces with two maces. Megatronus roared "I still function!", as the crowd began chanting a shortened version of his name: Megatron. Transformers: Exodus
The Insecticon then tracked Jack to Vector Sigma, but was horrified to see the supercomputer covered in scraplets. Jack hurled one of the scraplets at the Insecticon so that they would stop feeding on Vector Sigma, and the rest of the swarm followed it in attacking the larger beast-bot. When Starscream was seeking Energon scraps in an old mine, he noticed an Insecticon doing the same, and was surprised that one was on Earth. Starscream demanded that the Insecticon hand over the Energon it had found, though it instead turned on him and attacked, before Airachnid called it off. Airachnid had managed to control it, due to their being related. Though Starscream suggested that they all team up to end Megatron, Airachnid instead ordered the Insecticon to attack him, however he escaped. Sometime later, the Insecticon attacked Megatron as part of Airachnid's trap, refusing to obey him instead. The Insecticon had the upper hand on the Decepticon leader, particularly when Airachnid removed his fusion cannon from the equation, however Megatron eventually triumphed as he beheaded the Insecticon.

However, as the escaped Airachnid discovered, it was only a scout for an entire hive of Insecticons in stasis underground.Crossfire
Armada (episode)
Airachnid awoke the Insecticons after detecting a signal from the Nemesis, and sent most of them to terminate Megatron, while others attempted to protect her from the Autobots who arrived to see what was happening. While Optimus Prime and Bumblebee eliminated the Insecticons attacking them, Arcee chased down Airachnid and put her in stasis. At that point her control of the Insecticons ceased, and those attacking the Nemesis stopped and proclaimed their loyalty to Megatron. Armada (episode)
A legendary Autobot returns to Earth to look for a new Decepticon, but Optimus finds that something is not right with the rogue Bot.

Synopsis
Agent Fowler calls the Autobots, furious about another fight with possible collateral damage. Though all of them are present at base, Ratchet posits that the fighters may be infighting Decepticons. However, a video feed shows otherwise, for the two are an unidentified Skyquake-like Decepticon—and Wheeljack! Though Bulkhead is thoroughly excited, Fowler demands that the situation be handled pronto.

Outside of Omaha, Wheeljack battles it out with the 'Con. Agent Fowler hovers over the scene and demands stoppage, but is fired upon by Wheeljack. The Autobot is hit in the shoulder, and falls back as Agent Fowler supplies suppressive fire. A GroundBridge opens up, and the Autobots step out. They aid Wheeljack, and fire upon the Decepticon, who takes cover. Agent Fowler flies overhead, and the Decepticon seizes the opportunity to scan his vehicle. He runs toward a gas station, and Wheeljack aims his blasters at him. Despite Optimus and Bulkhead's cautioning, he fires, and the station explodes as the Decepticon transforms and flies off. Though Wheeljack believes that the 'Con—revealed as Dreadwing—rigged it to explode, he is informed otherwise. Though the Wrecker is eager to give pursuit, Optimus tells him that, while on Earth, it would be wise to respect his authority.

Back at base, Ratchet repairs Wheeljack. He apologizes for the collateral damage, but says that his pursuit of Dreadwing warranted it. He starts into the story of his pursuit. Originally, he was looking for Autobot refugees, but when the one he had found— the former Wrecker Seaspray—is blown to bits by one of Dreadwing's bombs, he made it his mission to track the rogue 'Con down. After several solar systems worth of pursuit, Wheeljack caught up with him on Earth. Optimus recounts his own knowledge of Dreadwing—he was a captain of a Seeker armada, and Skyquake's twin. He also infers that Dreadwing's mission is to pay allegiance to Megatron. Wheeljack is eager to get out and kick Dreadwing's tailpipe, but Optimus reels him in, saying that any action taken against the Decepticons must be carefully planned on this foreign planet. This infuriates the Wrecker, who can't fathom the idea of doing nothing. Agent Fowler walks in and admonishes Wheeljack for nearly blowing their cover, and demands that Prime keep a closer watch on his troops. Wheeljack doesn't take well to being called part of the team, and walks off, followed by Bulkhead. Optimus explains Wheeljack's disregard for authority by his inclusion in the Wreckers, a unit that operated outside of normal command.

Somewhere mountainous, Dreadwing holds a laser beacon that continues into the sky. The Nemesis arrives, and he boards. Megatron welcomes his loyalty, but Dreadwing reveals that he was brought to Earth with another purpose as well. He says that he and his twin, Skyquake, shared a split spark, and that he could feel across the galaxy when his brother was released from stasis—and when his spark was extinguished. This information is confirmed by Megatron, and Dreadwing vows to make every Autobot on Earth pay. Megatron avows that they will—eventually, under his terms. He advises the Seeker to obey him, for his best interests.

As Wheeljack works on his ship, Bulkhead attempts to change his mind about the planet. Wheeljack lists the comrades they'd lost in battle, but Bulkhead takes is as all the more reason that they must stick together. Wheeljack doubts Optimus's integrity, but Bulkhead stands firmly by him. Inside the Jackhammer, a challenge comes through over the commlink from Dreadwing. Wheeljack straps in to meet the 'Con, and Bulkhead gets in as well. They jet off to meet their challenger.

Dreadwing faces off against Wheeljack, both determined to finish their business. They exchange fire, and Dreadwing runs and jumps into a crevice. The Wrecker gives pursuit, and Dreadwing avails him of the "surprises" he's left—proximity bombs, scattered all throughout the crevice. He dodges them with ease, and pins the 'Con against a dead end. Bulkhead reveals himself atop the crevice, preventing Dreadwing from flying off. However, he has one last trick up his sleeve—one last bomb, placed meters from Bulkhead's position. It explodes, burying the two under the exploded cliff face as he flies off.

At base, Ratchet finds Bulkhead's transmission over a thousand miles away. At Optimus's inquiry, he says that no response has been made.

In the crevice, Optimus helps Wheeljack out of a pile of boulders. Though Optimus acknowledges that he cannot force Wheeljack to obey his orders, he reprimands the rebel for endangering the safety of one of his troops. Ratchet informs Optimus over comm that Bulkhead's signal has moved.

Wheeljack and Optimus fly to Bulkhead's location, a shipping depot. They find him in an unfortunate predicament, strapped to a crate with a bomb wired into his chest. Wheeljack gets to work defusing the bomb, but it proves a challenging prospect, as it is laced with all sorts of failsafes.

Dreadwing looks on, with Optimus in his sights. He receives a transmission from Megatron, and tells his leader that he is pursuing his destiny. Megatron responds by saying that Optimus is not so easily beaten.

Bulkhead tries to stop Wheeljack from continuing his attempts to defuse the bomb. He notices that Optimus is gone, and Wheeljack again deprecates Optimus for fleeing when the situation gets hot.

Megatron allows Dreadwing to continue his plan, out of respect for his deceased brother. He disconnects, and muses to Soundwave that he does not expect him to come back. Dreadwing notices that Optimus is not there anymore, and Optimus chooses to announce himself. He appeals to the Decepticon's sense of honor, saying that his master does not respect chivalry and honor as he and his brother did. Dreadwing refuses the offer of defection, and fires upon Prime, who escapes into the maze of containers.

Bulkhead pleads with Wheeljack to leave, but it falls on deaf ears. He says that the only bot who knows how to defuse the bomb is Dreadwing. Wheeljack remarks on the encroaching blaster fire, when he is delivered an uppercut by Bulkhead. The big bot tears out of his restraints, and runs away from his friend.

Dreadwing continues to spar with Optimus, but loses him from his sights.

Bulkhead runs toward the water, apologizing in advance to the sea life, when Wheeljack jumps out and tries to stop him. He is no match for the huge 'Bot, and is pushed along with him. He appeals to Bulkhead, agreeing with the fact that only Dreadwing can defuse the bomb—and that Optimus knows it as well.

The Seeker slowly searches the dock. Suddenly, he hears a roar, and above him, Optimus comes crashing down on top of him with a shipping crane. Pinned, Dreadwing is forced to listen again to Optimus's proposal to defuse the bomb, which is now standing right beside him. Dreadwing is unfazed, saying that he would rather destroy himself and all three Autobots to avenge his brother. Optimus calls his bluff, and says that they too will die in fire with their brother. He grudgingly accepts, and defuses the bomb. However, not about to leave empty handed, Dreadwing sets off the many bombs he had placed throughout the port, and flies off. Wheeljack wonders who will clean that up.

On the Nemesis, Megatron gloats about Dreadwing's defeat, but seems mildly surprised that the Seeker still lives. Dreadwing, in the wake of his defeat, pledges his total loyalty to Megatron.

At the base, now addressing Optimus as "Commander," Wheeljack apologizes for his misjudgment about him earlier. All the Autobots, sans Ratchet, try to convince Wheeljack to stay. He says he'll explore the planet, to see if it's right for him. However, Bulkhead tells him that he has to have an Earth alternate mode.

Outside, Wheeljack transforms, and drives off into the distance.
Notes
Animation and technical errors
* When Wheeljack faces Dreadwing in the forest, the scar on his left shoulder (that was inflicted by Dreadwing in their first showdown on Earth) seems to have disappeared. Few moments later it's there again.
* When Wheeljack is chasing Dreadwing through the chasm, his grenade can be seen on his hip, despite it having been used earlier.

Continuity notes
* This episode features the first on-screen use of the term Terrorcon.
* Soundwave shows scenes of Optimus and Bumblebee's fight with Skyquake in "Masters & Students".
* Arcee references "Masters & Students" and "Shadowzone".

Transformers references
* Wheeljack namedrops former Wreckers Impactor, Roadbuster, Rotorstorm, and Pyro. The Generation 1 incarnations of these four characters are all Wreckers from various continuities: Impactor and Roadbuster were original members of the group when it was first introduced in "Target: 2006", while Rotorstorm and Pyro joined in Last Stand of the Wreckers. Like their Prime counterparts, all four characters have indeed been seen to die while serving as Wreckers in one continuity or another. Seaspray being a Wrecker, meanwhile, is a new addition.
* Wheeljack namedrops the Dromedon system and the planets Maderan and Sandokan.
* Dreadwing is referred to as a Seeker.
* Dreadwing references The Pit.
*Optimus explains how the Wreckers are a separate team faction from the Autobots.

Real-world references
*Fowler compares the activities of the Wreckers to "black ops", a term for covert military operations.

Trivia
*Fowler really needs to stop flying that jet of his around Decepticons who look like they turn into jets.
*Wheeljack finally takes an Earth-based vehicle mode. Seems like he's on Earth to stay.
*Dreadwing's proximity bombs have plates resembling his wings. Perhaps they're his trademark symbol for each location he visits--though it doesn't last when it explodes.
*Optimus didn't look very comfortable in Wheeljack's ship.

This is the page for the TFWiki.net Transformers Hall of Fame Auditions entries. The rules are as follows:

#You must pick your top five Transformers characters, from any era. They must actually be Transformers; sorry, but no humans, non-Transformer aliens, non-Transformer robots, or anything else of the sort are being considered for the Hall of Fame. Any votes for such entities will not be tabulated. It is the sole discretion of the contest organizers to decide what does and does not count.
#Take your top five list and put it in alphabetical order. Order of preference does not matter. Feel free to denote the character's franchise of origin, although these distinctions may not figure into the final results.
#You cannot pick a specific version of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, Starscream, Dinobot, Ironhide, Ratchet, or Soundwave. They've already been inducted or soon will be!
#Only one entry per user.
