[[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] and the [[Unicron/Generation 1|Unicron]]-empowered [[Decepticon]]s return to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], arriving just as [[Starscream (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Starscream]] holds a coronation ceremony to proclaim himself leader. With one blast from his new laser cannon alternate mode, Galvatron reduces Starscream to ash, and the other Decepticons are quick to proclaim their loyalty to him. Galvatron's moment of triumph is sullied soon after, however, when Unicron arrives in the vicinity of Cybertron and consumes [[Moonbase One|one of the planet's moons]]. Galvatron is outraged, declaring Cybertron and its moons ''his'' dominion, but Unicron brooks no dissent from his rebellious creation, revealing that he has the power to inflict great pain upon Galvatron, even from a distance. Relenting, Galvatron orders the Decepticons to head for Earth to carry out the mission Unicron has charged them with: find [[Ultra Magnus (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Ultra Magnus]], the current keeper of the Autobot [[Matrix of Leadership]], and destroy them both.

The Autobots on Earth are alerted to Unicron's threat by a message sent by [[Jazz (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Jazz]] and [[Cliffjumper (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Cliffjumper]], who are stationed on the first moon, and who are consumed along with it by Unicron. The Autobots prepare to head for Cybertron in a pair of newly-constructed shuttlecraft, but before they can blast off, they come under attack from Galvatron and the Decepticons. [[File:JudgmentDay to the shuttles.jpg|left|thumb|upright=1.75]] Hastily taking flight, the Autobots employ an old tactic of Ultra Magnus's previously used in a battle off [[Beta 4]]: they blast a nearby asteroid, the shattered pieces of which pinball into other nearby asteroids, shattering them in turn, and creating a screen of debris that covers the Autobots' escape.

Aboard one of the shuttles with [[Kup (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Kup]] and the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]], [[Hot Rod (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Hot Rod]] uses the journey to get in a little sparring with an [[auto-combatant]], but the training mannequin actually defeats the young Autobot. Before Hot Rod can get his own back, the Decepticons catch up to them and attack with [[moleculon missile]]s. Hot Rod and Kup are able to avoid the missiles, but their evasive maneuvers take them close to the nearby world of [[Quintessa (planet)|Quintesson]]. A robotic claw shoots up from the planet and rips into their shuttle, sending them and the Dinobots tumbling down to Quintesson's watery surface. Unable to aid their comrades with the Decepticons on their tail, Ultra Magnus and the crew of the other shuttle are forced to focus on their own survival, and manage to dupe Galvatron by disconnecting the forward section of their ship, leaving behind the rear three-quarters to be destroyed by Decepticon fire. Galvatron believes the entire ship and its crew destroyed, but his celebrations are cut short when Unicron remotely tortures him once more. While Galvatron departs to return to his master, Magnus's crew heads for the nearby [[Junkion (planet)|planet of Junk]] to set down for repairs.

Hot Rod, Kup, and [[Grimlock (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Grimlock]] are separated from the other Dinobots in their fall to the surface of Quintesson, where they are quickly captured by some of the native robotic lifeforms, the [[Sharkticon (species)|Sharkticons]], and brought to the citadel of the Sharkticons' masters, for whom the world is named: the [[Quintesson]]s. Thrown in a prison cell, they meet fellow captive [[Kranix (G1)|Kranix]], the sole survivor of [[Lithone (planet)|Lithone]], who explains to the Autobots about the threat of Unicron, and how the Quintessons serve to hunt down and kill those who survive his attacks. After Kranix is executed and devoured by the Sharkticons, the Autobots are put on trial themselves and sentenced to the same fate. Fortunately, Kup manages to slip his bonds and free his fellow Autobots, enabling them to fight back. The other Dinobots, having observed their capture and followed them to the Quintessons' citadel in secret, arrive to join the fight. Outmatched by the ferocious Dinobots, the Sharkticons surrender, and are convinced by Grimlock to turn on the Quintessons. [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]], a refugee hiding from the Quintessons, appears and offers the Autobots a ship that will enable them to get off the planet.

Unicron continues to inch closer to Cybertron, turning his attention to [[Moonbase Two|second of its moons]]. [[Bumblebee (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Bumblebee]] and [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike]] evacuate, setting explosives that blow up the entire satellite just as Unicron is consuming it... but the blast does no damage at all to the monster planet, and Bumblebee and Spike soon find themselves helplessly sucked into Unicron's maw along with the debris...

The comic adaptation continues to be based on a slightly earlier version of the script than the finished film uses. Alternate scenes, details, and staging derived from the script include:
*Unicron does not provide Galvatron with [[Revenge (G1)|a ship]], with Cyclonus instead serving as the new Decepticon leader's personal vessel. As established last issue, there are numerous [[Sweep (G1)|Sweeps]] ''and'' members of [[Cyclonus's Armada]].
*The two shuttles which the Autobots use to escape Autobot City are explicitly stated to be newly-constructed.
*While the finished film moves Moonbase Two's destruction up to right after the first one's, the comic keeps it in the same place as the script had it, following the conclusion of the Quintesson adventure.
*There's an additional scene that furthers the "Ultra Magnus doesn't understand Perceptor's overdeveloped vocabulary" running gag, as Perceptor explains the dangers of taking off without warming up their engines first (right).
*As the Autobot shuttles take off, Astrotrain swoops in to lead an attack on them. The Autobots escape by blasting an asteroid field, creating a screen of debris that covers their escape; a tactic Ultra Magnus picked up during a battle on Beta 4, which Galvatron angrily remembers (right).
*The auto-combatant kicks Hot Rod in the butt, rather than punching him, then razzes him with a mechanical tongue.
*The missiles the Decepticons fire at the Autobots are called out in dialogue as "moleculon missiles."
*Kup "inverting polarities" involves bringing the shuttle to a dead stop, so that the moleculon missiles overshoot it and detonate a safe distance away. This was changed for the finished film to the shuttle zapping the missiles with some kind of scrambler beam.
*The Quintessons' planet is not named in the film itself, but would later be identified as "Quintessa" in the subsequent third season of the animated series. Here, per the script, the world is named "Quintesson."
*Rather than crashing after taking hits from Cyclonus, as in the film, Kup and Hot Rod's shuttle is pulled down to "Quintesson" by a giant rocket-powered claw that shoots up from the planet's surface (right).
*Hot Rod and Kup encounter and are captured by Sharkticons rather than [[Allicon]]s (below right).
*The Quintessons are explicitly tied to Unicron, as Kranix explains that they hunt down those who try to escape his wrath.
*While the finished film has Hot Rod and Kup's restraining bolts disappearing from around them as they fall into the Sharkticon pit, the script and adaptation depict Kup managing to escape his bonds and shooting Hot Rod free. However, see below.
*Rather than a pool, the Sharkticon pit into which Hot Rod and Kup are thrown is a gladiator pit, and they fight the creatures there, since they don't have to use their vehicle modes to create a whirlpool and escape before they can thrown down with the beasts on dry land. (but see "continuity errors," below).
*Spike doesn't swear!

Other changes made to the story, usually in the name of condensing and simplifying it, which are ''not'' derived from the script include:
*Galvatron and Starscream's final exchange ("Megatron? Is that you?" "Here's a hint!") is omitted, replaced instead with Galvatron very awkwardly recapping his origin.
*The various scenes of the Autobots making a run for their shuttles when the Decepticons attack are all cut: Arcee, Hot Rod, and Daniel dodging fire; Blurr trying to get the Dinobots into a shuttle and Hot Rod and Kup having to take over; and Springer pulling Arcee aboard their ship when she gets left behind.
*When Ultra Magnus get the idea to repeat the Beta 4 asteroid trick, Springer remembers it from that past battle. In the script, however, it was ''Kup'' who was part of that battle, thereby setting up the story he goes on to tell the Dinobots about Beta 4 and his encounter with the [[Ick-Yak]] there. The scene of Kup telling that story, however, is cut from the comic, so Hot Rod is not distracted by it; he simply loses to the auto-combatant fair and square.
*The Quintesson adventure is massively truncated, to much negative effect:
**Hot Rod and Kup land safely, so the scene of Hot Rod's battle with the giant squid is cut, and Kup is never in need of repair. However, in the script, when they are thrown into the Sharkticon pit, Kup is able to escape his bonds because his complaint that Hot Rod "left a piece out" when putting him back together turns out to be ''true'', leaving him double-jointed enough to wriggle free. As the scene of Kup even needing repair in the first place was cut from the adaptation, the comic simply credits Kup's "instinct for survival" as the reason for his ability to slip his bonds.
**The scene of Kup trying to placate the Sharkticons with the [[universal greeting]] is left out (right), thereby removing the necessary set-up for the greeting's use on Junkion, which still takes place in the next issue of the adaptation.
**In a ''huge'' difference to both the film ''and'' script, Grimlock lands with Hot Rod and Kup and is captured and put on trial with them. The plot is completely unchanged by this, but the scene of the Dinobots exploring Quintesson and meeting Wheelie is cut (as is another scene of the Dinobots getting lost in the first place that was in the script, but which didn't make it to the finished film). Without Wheelie to guide them to the rescue, ''Sludge'', of all characters, is required to deliver an excruciatingly overwrought speech explaining that the Dinobot saw the others get captured and stealthily followed them to the Quintesson palace (right).
**Having been deprived of an introductory scene, Wheelie appears out of nowhere once the fighting is over. The need to have him introduce himself and explain his deal in one speech bubble (the only line of dialogue he gets in the entire adaptation) means he doesn't get to talk in rhyme.
* While the film intercuts the Quintesson scenes with scenes of the Autobots crashing on Junkion and battling the Decepticons there, the comic presents them as one unbroken run, rather than split the story over two issues.

Visual differences from the film, resulting from incomplete or outdated reference material include:
*Starscream has no extra coronation vestments, lacking both his famous crown and cape.
*The auto-combatant bears only a loose resemblance to its animated counterpart.

===Continuity and plotting errors===

*The abridged dialogue during Hot Rod and Kup's trial scene removes the Quintesson's warning that the Autobots will be "held in contempt of this court." However, Hot Rod's response—"I have nothing ''but'' contempt for this court!"—is retained (right), turned into a simple non-joke statement, lacking the set-up or emphasis in his delivery that makes it a pun.
*In accordance with the script, as noted above, the Sharkticon pit is depicted as a gladiator pit when Hot Rod, Kup, and Grimlock are thrown in to it. However, earlier, when ''Kranix'' is tossed in, it appears as it does in the finished film, as a water-filled pit, though the script never describes it in this way even during this scene.
*Spike refers to Unicron by name, but there's no way for him to ''know'' the monster planet's name, as Hot Rod and Kup have only just learned it from Kranix themselves.

Commander of the [[Cycle Drone]]s, he is a dark, cold, brooding type, and is absolutely devoted to Megatron's goals, even though he knows what it means in the end for him. He is almost completely fearless, says ''exactly'' what is on his mind (he had the lugnuts to tell Megatron just how dumb his plan of using Maximal sparks to power the other two Vehicon Generals was), and takes a delight in tormenting his foes both physically and psychologically.

Oddly, despite initial backstabbing, he grew to consider his fellow General [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]] a friend, which developed into a white-hot hatred when Jetstorm was reverted into the Maximal [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]]. He refused to even call Silverbolt by his name, calling him "Jetstorm" and "traitor".

Thrust's personality and mind is in fact a shell program powered by the [[spark]] of the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspinator]]. Despite this, Thrust has virtually no similarities to Waspinator, and the Predacon is ''very'' happy to be in the cool "biker-bot", even if only as a power source.

His [[Activation code|Command Code]] is "overdrive," although in one anomalous instance, he used the phrase "accelerate."

Thrust can be distinguished from his drones by his size and yellow markings.

Thrust lead a squad of his Cycle Drones in an attack against Cheetor, Nightscream and Rattrap when the three Maximals infiltrated a Vehicon assembly factory. He was defeated by Cheetor, rendering his drones inert. In the wake of a power-feedback, Megatron was rendered weak, and all of the Vehicon drones were rendered offline for half a solar cycle. With Thrust, as well as Jetstorm and Tankor out of commission for the time being, Megatron was effectively rendered defenseless. As soon as Thrust was repaired, he rushed out to defend his leader against the Maximals, but Megatron had struck a deal with Rattrap while Thrust had been off-line. Later, during a battle between the Maximals and Vehicons, Thrust saved the life of Blackarachnia, though quickly wondered why. The two wandered into a spark extraction facility, where a massive [[spark extractor]] attempted to extract their sparks. Thrust again saved Blackarachnia, and was in turn saved by her. After that, he and Jetstorm were attacked by Blackarachnia and Nightscream while Cheetor and Rattrap worked to reawaken Tankor's Maximal spark. Blackarachnia, convinced that Thrust was carrying [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt's]] spark, tried to help him remember their past, which resulted in Thrust having more flashbacks, this time to the time he spent on Earth. However, before he could remember his previous identity, Jetstorm attacked and accused him of betrayal. Thrust claimed he was just trying to stall Blackarachnia; Jetstorm, unconvinced, ordered Thrust to prove his loyalty to Megatron by extracting Blackarachnia's spark. He grudgingly agreed to this, but was interrupted by Nightscream. Unfortunately, Blackarachnia's spark was extracted anyway, by Jetstorm. {{storylink|Revelations Part II: Descent|Descent}} Thrust picked up Blackarachnia's body and pursued Jetstorm. After that, he was sent with Jetstorm and Tankor to apprehend Nightscream as part of an attempt to remove Megatron's organic components. Nightscream escaped and Thrust and Jetstorm pursued him, but were defeated by Nightscream's sonic scream. {{storylink|Survivor}} Shortly thereafter, while on a wild goose chase courtesy of Tankor, Thrust was exposed to [[organic goo]] courtesy of Blackarachnia, which caused him to revert to his Waspinator personality. However, before he could cause any damage, he was zapped by a duplicate [[Key to Vector Sigma]], causing him to revert to his Thrust persona.

Some time later, Optimus Primal used the [[Plasma energy|Plasma Energy Chamber]] against Megatron's Keys to Vector Sigma, apparently destroying them both, along with Tankor. {{storylink|End of the Line}} With the war apparently over, Thrust and Jetstorm were invited to join the Maximals, but they instead decided to strike out on their own. Thrust got hostile at the idea of Jetstorm getting reformatted, deciding he viewed the general as a friend and didn't want to lose him. {{storylink|Fallout (episode)|Fallout}}. During this time, they were attacked by [[Noble (BM)|Savage]], an event which they initially blamed on the Maximals. They did temporarily team up with their old enemies against this new threat, but their insistence on attacking Savage and antagonising Noble earned them nothing more than a trashing. {{storylink|Savage Noble}} Thrust would go up against Savage once again when he and Jetstorm attempted to apprehend Nightscream. Savage, now free from Megatron's spark, gave Thrust a sound thrashing. He called out for Jetstorm, but unfortunately for him, Jetstorm had since been reformatted into Silverbolt, who pushed him over the edge of the cliff from which he was dangling. {{storylink|In Darkest Knight}} Thrust would subsequently reserve a special hatred for Silverbolt, seeing him as a traitor to the Vehicon cause.

Following the loss of Jetstorm, Megatron resurrected the [[Hate Plague]] and generated a variant which would apparently only affect [[technorganic]] life, and sicced it on the Maximals. Thrust led a group of Cycle Drones to eliminate them, but decided to conserve ammo by letting the Maximals destroy each other. However, the Maximals were able to overcome the effects of the virus and chased Thrust out. {{storylink|A Wolf in the Fold}}

After this, Thrust was apparently given command of the remaining Tank Drones and Sonic Jet Drones (even with the arrival of Obsidan and Strika, Thrust would have been the senior Vehicon General since he had served under Megatron for the longest amount of time, especially when you count his time as Waspinator). When a ship carrying a [[Botanica (BM)|strange plant being]] crashed on Cybertron, Megatron sent Thrust to recover it and its contents to avoid them falling into the hands of the Maximals. By judicious use of his drone army, Thrust was able to reach the ship first, but was knocked out by Optimus Primal before he could enter. He then chased the Maximals to the Oracle chamber, where Botanica had fled; upon reaching it, he deployed a huge number of Tank Drones to destroy both the Maximals and the trees, but they were all eliminated in one attack by the reformatted Botanica.

Outnumbered, Thrust fled, telling Botanica she had made a big mistake. He complained to Megatron about the unfair situation, {{storylink|Home Soil}} prompting Megatron to resurrect [[Obsidian (BM)|Obsidian]] and [[Strika (BM)|Strika]]. Around this time, he apparently started reverting somewhat to Waspinator, as he was beaten up and damaged when he tried to stop the Maximals salvaging spare parts, by Obsidian when he tried to brief the new generals on the current situation, by Megatron when he attempted to rub Obsidian and Strika's faces in their recent failure to destroy the Maximals, {{storylink|Sparkwar Pt. I: The Strike|The Strike}} by Savage when he led a force of Cycle Drones to pursue Optimus Primal and Nightscream to the ruins of [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], {{storylink|Sparkwar Pt. II: The Search|The Search}} and by the force of gravity when the [[Grand Mal]] crashed into Cybertron's surface. {{storylink|Sparkwar Pt. III: The Siege|The Siege}}

Following Megatron's depolarization, Thrust again wandered Cybertron aimlessly. He encountered Obsidian and Strika, who were considering joining forces with the Maximals. Thrust asked how they could be truly loyal to anybody if they were loyal to everybody, and drove off. His words gave the other generals pause, and when Rattrap repolarized Megatron, inspired them to return to the side of villainy. Thrust encountered them again soon enough and tried to take command, only for Megatron to berate him for being useless and announce the final stage of his plan. Obsidian, however, stated that it was Thrust who had made him and Strika realise their loyalties lay with Megatron. {{storylink|Spark of Darkness}}

In the final battle, Thrust led a force of Cycle Drones against the Maximals. Despite accidentally destroying several of his own drones and being attacked by Strika due to Rattrap's latest gadget, he led a large force to the Grand Mal, just in time to see it crash to Cybertron. {{storylink|Endgame Pt. I: The Downward Spiral|The Downward Spiral}} Thrust personally took on Silverbolt, taunting him by calling him 'Jetstorm', and when he and Blackarachnia went down, Thrust, Strika, and Obsidian penetrated the Grand Mal.

Inside, Cheetor activated the anti-gravity generators, blasting Obsidian and Strika into orbit. Thrust, however, managed to avoid the field and engaged Cheetor personally. Barricade's eyes have red light-piping, and instead of a battle-mask, his mouth can be opened and closed by tilting the top of his head. The chest is also capable of more deformation than shown in the stock photo to make him more movie-accurate, by angling the two bumpers up and adjusting the tilt of the grille.

:There's something odd going on with his hips; they only come out to a 45° angle, which prevents his legs from being fully straightened, This is most likely to simulate his crouching position seen in the movie and his deluxe toys. The socket is capable of the full rotation, though, and the blocking plastic can be easily sliced off. Additionally, the waist was at one point capable of rotation, but this has been oddly blocked by the addition of a small blocking bar molded on to plastic rotation axis. This weird mold change can also be easily sliced out to restore full functionality.

Once Devastator reached the peak, however, Optimus was able to gain remote control of his own dismembered gun-wielding arm, which had been mounted on top of the building as an artillery unit, and blasted Devastator off the building. Unfortunately, Megatron had anticipated this plan and built a device to override the dominator disks. When he turned Devastator against the Autobots, Wheeljack turned up the power on the dominator discs, which only served to fry Devastator's [[Circuits|logic circuits]] and sent him berserk, damaging the controls for Megatron's drill just as it was about to pierce the Earth's core. Working together, both factions restored Devastator to Megatron's control and sent him into the ground to take out the drill before it could destroy the Earth. As a result, Devastator's combination was significantly altered.

The giant Decepticon warrior was assembled to battle the Autobots in the Southern Hemisphere, when both groups were seeking out the source of a new set of energy readings. Devastator confronted the Dinobot [[Grimlock (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Grimlock]], and the force of their battle was enough to cause the landscape to cave in, revealing the caverns below. The task shortly accomplished despite Sunstreaker attempting to fight back, Devastator brought him to Decepticon headquarters. After locking Sunstreaker in a prison cell, Devastator split up into his component pieces.

The Constructicons once more joined together to form Devastator when a rescue party stormed Decepticon headquarters to rescue Sunstreaker. Devastator made short work of [[Slag (G1)|Slag]], [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] and [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]] as well, and stuffed them in Sunstreaker's holding cell.

The Constructicons merged once more to view an Autobot peace offering; Optimus and his troops had left before the Decepticons' headquarters a life-size statue of Devastator. Accompanying the statue was a letter from Optimus Prime, explaining that the effigy was meant as a symbol of the Autobots' surrender. The rest of the Decepticons cheered as Devastator neared the statue to contemplate it. But the moment the giant Decepticon touched the statue, an ambush part of Autobots burst forth from within it. Each Autobot fired at Devastator from a different side. This resulted in Devastator's attention to be so thoroughly divided that his components transformed back into their individual selves. The resultant Devastator suffered from a "dead leg" that he could not move properly, allowing the Autobots to outrun him, and his other leg was also soon taken out of the equation when [[Sunstreaker (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Sunstreaker]] tricked the giant into stomping on his explosive-laden wheelchair. Just as the giant was about to crush him with his fists instead, he was mentally taken over by [[D-Void]] and forced to merge with all other Decepticons and [[Galvatron (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Galvatron]]'s [[Sweep (G1)|Sweep]] army to form the "[[Deceptigod]]". {{storylink|Chaos Part Three: Kings}}

The defeat of D-Void was followed by the reversion of Cybertron into a primordial wilderness into which Megatron fled, leaving the leaderless Decepticons—the Constructicons among them—to live in the rebuilt [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], under the unstable governance of Bumblebee. Megatron soon discovered that the combination of [[Ore-13]] and [[space bridge]] technology in his new body allowed him to tap the energies from within Cybertron that D-Void had used to create the Deceptigod, and in this force's ability to subjugate individual will and facilitate combination, he saw the means to finally perfect the combination process. {{storylink|Before the Dawn}} [[File:IDWRID14 prowlstator.jpg|thumb|upright=1.3|"Nothing is more of a prick than Devastator, nothing!"]] Megatron tested his theories upon the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]], fusing them into "The [[Superion (G1)|Superion]]", and also secretly conspired with several of the Decepticons in Iacon, allowing Bombshell to experiment with the energies, with which he seized control of the mind of the Autobot police officer [[Prowl (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Prowl]]. Faking both his own death and those of the Constructicons, {{storylink|Devisive}} Bombshell withdrew them all to Prowl's [[Black Room]], where the Constructicons' bodies were rebuilt to the specifications of a new, modular Devastator design that moved Hook to Scrapper's old position as right leg, and would allow others built with compatible forms to serve as the combiner's head. The intent was for Megatron himself to become Devastator's new head, but rather than risk his own mind and body in a test run, it was arranged for the mind-controlled Prowl to become part of Devastator first, to ensure the process worked.

When Megatron returned to Iacon and his plan went into action, the Constructicons and Prowl combined into the new and improved Devastator, under the complete control of Bombshell via Prowl. Under Megatron's orders, the revamped Devastator proceeded to destroy Autobot High Command with the sweep of a hand. {{storylink|Before the Dawn}} The giant then continued on to the Iacon med-centre, which he also devastated, before menacing the Autobots, NAILs, and disillusioned Decepticons trying to defend it. Superion arrived from Cybertron's wilderness and proceeded to engage Devastator in combat, and two giants' battle continued for some time until, elsewhere, Bombshell was stabbed through the head by [[Arcee (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Arcee]]. With his controlling influence gone, Devastator fell into a stupor, just as Prowl—his mind still partially aware within the combiner—turned his thoughts to the one thing he and the five Constructicons agreed on: a hatred of Spike Witwicky. This unifying idea caused Devastator to reawaken, now of one mind, and with just one goal: to never be controlled ever again. With that, Devastator grabbed Superion, tore the combined Autobot in half, {{storylink|Plan for Everything}} and proceeded to destroy everything he saw. However, the giant was surprised when [[Ironhide (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Ironhide]] got a boost up onto his shoulders and began to call out to Prowl inside his mind. After some well-placed punches and a speech from the Autobot veteran on the topic of free will and personal change, Prowl wrestled enough control to cause Devastator to tear off his own head, spontaneously un-combining the gestalt. He was briefly distraced by an Autobot-Decepticon alliance, allowing Starscream to use the Enigma on a group of bystanders and create Defensor. Starscream sought to turn Devastator's power to his own end, and used the Enigma to rebuild Devastator once more. This new configuration incorporated Starscream's lackey [[Scoop (G1)|Scoop]] as Devastator's new right leg, omitting Prowl and returning the other Constructicons to their original configurations. Scoop's religious fanaticism and devotion to his "Chosen One" allowed him to override the other members of the team and force Devastator to obey Starscream's commands. His first mission was to stop Menasor from going on yet another rampage on Caminus. Unfortunately, Defensor misread the situation and attacked Devastator, sparking a four-way brawl between all of the combiners. Metroplex's malfunctioning space bridge sent the quartet tumbling onto an alien world, and things only escalated when the newly-born [[Optimus Maximus (G1)|Optimus Maximus]], under the control of Prowl, stepped in to intervene. {{storylink|You, Me, and the Universe}} Devastator was furious at Prowl for "abandoning" him, and this anger allowed Devastator to ignore Scoop's input and sock Optimus Maximus hard enough to knock him for a loop.
