''[[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Home of the [[Transformer|Transformers]]. The [[Autobot|Autobots]] and [[Decepticon|Decepticons]] have been engaged in war over the planet's [[Energon]] reserves for centuries. And the Decepticon war effort is running smoothly thanks entirely to [[Ballpoint]], "The PEN who's mightier than the SWORD!" He's an incredible fighter, spy, tactician, pilot, mechanic, and [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]'s best friend. When the Autobots departed Cybertron aboard the ''[[Ark (G1)|Ark]]'', the Decepticons followed and boarded the vessel, before crash landing on [[Earth]]. It was Ballpoint who brought everyone back online, with the other Decepticons singing his praises all along the way...''

Ballpoint's story to his best friend, the blender, is interrupted by [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], who sneeringly informs Ballpoint and "Smoothie" that not only is none of that true, they didn't even know Ballpoint was ''aboard'' the ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'' when they departed Cybertron. Their discussion is interrupted once more by an announcement over the loudspeaker: Megatron is about to give a briefing. The Decepticons assemble in the throne room, with Starscream taking from Ballpoint the report on the solar farm they're about to raid, warning the diminuitive Decepticon that he better not have messed it up. [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] rushes past, holding a piece of paper, which Ballpoint interprets as the cyclops wanting an autograph, and happily obliges. Shockwave flicks Ballpoint across the room.

===Chapter 2===
Megatron demands Shockwave hand over his report on Autobot activity near their target, but finds it illegible due to Ballpoint autographing over it. Starscream seizes the opportunity to suck up to his leader, and proudly inserts the [[Floppy disk]] Ballpoint compiled for him. To everyone's horror, it begins playing a homemade music video featuring Ballpoint's sick moves. Megatron declares everyone incompetent, but reveals he anticipated this and gathered all the intel himself. The Decepticons all hitch a ride on Starscream (plus [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] grabs [[Gnaw (G1)|Gnaw]]) and depart for the solar farm.

Arriving, Ballpoint asks Megatron what his assignment is. Megatron, unsure who Ballpoint is, asks Shockwave if he's capable. The answer is no, so Megatron orders Shockwave to kill him if he gets in the way. Shockwave tells Ballpoint to monitor the energy output and keep lookout for those pesky Autobots.

As the Decepticons siphon Energon from the solar farm, Ballpoint begins telling his story to the computer display he's been tasked with watching, and gets so engrossed in it that he completely fails to notice the Autobots arriving. The Autobots thoroughly ''trounce'' the Decepticons, with [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] in particular plowing into Megatron as Starscream leaps out of the way. Megatron orders a retreat, at which point our hero ''finally'' notices what's going on and joins his brethren in running away.

===Chapter 3===
Back at Decepticon headquarters, Ballpoint spins a tall tale about how he was busy trouncing bigger and stronger Autobots, and it's really only thanks to ''him'' that they got out of there. This time, Starscream calls Ballpoint on his BS in front of everyone, which angers the [[Rumble (G1)|rank]] and [[Frenzy (G1)|file]]. While Starscream is pontificating about how unacceptable it is that Megatron was injured, the Decepticon leader himself enters and dresses down Starscream for ''his'' role in one of said injuries. Megatron orders Starscream to fetch him an Energon shake, and the [[Seeker (body-type)|Seeker]] scrambles away. Megatron then angrily questions why his minions keep failing him. All present unanimously point their fingers at...Ballpoint. Megatron seethes with anger, knocking the Energon shake out of Starscream's hands — and more importantly, Smoothie the blender, whose "death" Ballpoint mourns. Megatron, sick of the tiny bot, banishes him from the Decepticon ranks, having him thrown out to the curb with the rest of the garbage. Ballpoint brainstorms ways to get himself back in Megatron's good graces, and hits upon the idea to destroy all the Autobots by himself. Great plan!

===Chapter 4===
At the crash site of the ''Ark'', the Autobots celebrate and recuperate from their latest victory. Prime laments the need for violence, [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] gets repairs from [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]], the [[Sideswipe (G1)|Lam]][[Sunstreaker (G1)|Bros]] trash-talk each other, and [[Jazz (G1)|Jazz]] tries desperately to get ''someone'' to laugh at an epic quip he made during the battle. To get away from Jazz, [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]] runs off to relieve [[Elita One (G1)|Elita-1]] from watch duty. As Prowl settles in, Ballpoint tries to figure out a way to distract him, settling on ordering a whole stack of pizzas. While Prowl argues with the pizza guy, Ballpoint sneaks into the ''Ark'', using his alternate mode to gain access to Wheeljack's office. Ballpoint first decides to try turning the Autobots against each other by leaving a fake note. Wheeljack's just happy someone fixed the printer! Next, he tries to beat up [[Brawn (G1)|Brawn]], but the [[Mini-Vehicle|Minibot]] doesn't even notice his attacker. After being nonchalantly stepped on by Optimus Prime, Ballpoint realizes this isn't working, and turns to psychological warfare.

===Chapter 5===
First, Ballpoint sneaks into Sunstreaker and Sideswipe's room and doodles mustaches and the like on their faces. They just think it's hilarious and walk into the halls laughing. Ballpoint decides enough is enough, he's going to take out the leader. He sneaks into Optimus' office and pretends to be a dentist, offering the Prime a cleaning. Prime points out that Cybertronians don't have [[Teeth|teeth]], and he himself might not even have a mouth. At that, Ballpoint gives up and comes clean, explaining who he is and why he's here. He begs not to be destroyed, only for Optimus to praise him for his bravery and offer him a chance to join them as the Decepticons begin an assault on the ''Ark''.

===Chapter 6===
As Prime gears up to face Megatron, he tosses Ballpoint to Bumblebee and orders them to stop Starscream from destroying the ''Ark''. Ballpoint freaks out, believing the two of them can't ''possibly'' stand a chance against the [[Air Commander]]. Bumblebee quickly proves his new ally wrong; by grabbing onto Starscream's wing, the seeker loses his stability and begins falling to the ground. Bumblebee jumps off at the last second, but Ballpoint doesn't react in time; bouncing along with Starscream until he's thrown off and lands right between Optimus Prime and Megatron! Megatron stands triumphant over his eternal foe, and sees an opportunity: he orders Ballpoint (calling him "Felt-Tip") to finish off Prime, wanting the irony of Prime falling to the weakest and most worthless Decepticon. Prime nods to Ballpoint, giving him the courage he needs to do the right thing. He clambers up Megatron and squirts ink all over his eyes, enabling Prime to get up and send Megatron careening trough the air. Megatron wearily orders a retreat. As the defeated Decepticons fly off, the Autobots all praise Ballpoint for his contributions, with Prime giving him a brand-new Autobot [[Insignia]].

Optimus suggests Jazz give him a tour; after bonding over Jazz's hilarious battle quips, he spots an old friend: Smoothie! Ecstatic that his old friend survived and is also an Autobot now, he runs over and hugs the Autobot's blender, to the confusion of Jazz and Bumblebee.

Back at the Decepticon base, Megatron paces angrily in front of his troops, unaware that Ballpoint has written "Space Farts" on his butt.

*Backmatter for this issue includes a "How to draw" segment of, naturally, Ballpoint (narrated by stylized Autobot and Decepticon insignias referred to as 'Aurora' and 'Steve', respectively), a model sheet of (most) of the characters appearing in the book, an "About the Authors" section, and a reading guide with some critical thinking questions for the youngins.

===Transformers references===
*Overall, this graphic novel is a loving tribute to the [[The Transformers (cartoon)|original cartoon]], featuring many themes from and nods to it throughout the whole story. It's deliberately goofy and campy and the action scenes are filled with cheesy quips, but more specifically:
**The basic backstory of the ''Ark'''s departure, crash, and lengthy slumber period, of course, isn't unique to the cartoon, but the stock-plot style Decepticon scheme to raid a solar farm to convert into Energon is typical of a G1 cartoon episode.
**The Decepticons explicitly all having to hitch a ride on Starscream and Laserbeak feels kind of like an ''anti''-reference — in the cartoon, all Decepticons could fly in robot mode, which is evidently not the case here. The specific way this is called out feels very deliberate.
**The Decepticon base is portrayed as a big, honkin' Decepticon insignia, much like their temporary base in the episode [[Enter the Nightbird]].
**Optimus Prime is portrayed less like the [[Thirteenth Prime|stoic demigod]] he's become in the 21st century and more like the friendly fatherly figure that his [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|original cartoon counterpart]] was.
**[[Mirage (G1)|Mirage]] turns invisible in the same way as the cartoon, creating a glowy cube around himself that makes him dissapear.
**The pizza guy is dressed in the same hard hat, tan shirt, and blue pants as [[Spike Witwicky (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Spike]] and [[Sparkplug Witwicky|Sparkplug]] (and every other background human) in the cartoon (though the pizza guy does not sport the yellow boots that would complete the outfit).
**[[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] (tries) to sing along to music playing on his headphones; first singing "''You got the clutch!''" and then later "''Dare to be brainless!''" He's, of course, listening to ''[[The Touch]]'' and ''[[Dare to Be Stupid]]'', both featured in [[The Transformers: The Movie|the movie]].
**Optimus Prime's trailer vanishes when he turns to robot mode, and comes out of nowhere when going back to vehicle mode.
*[[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]] is decked out in his [[Prowl (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Marvel]] color scheme, with blue trim instead of his usual black.
*In past stories, [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] has been portrayed as both an intelligent, talking bot, and a squawking, feral animal. This comic splits the difference, and makes him into basically a parrot.
*The comic makes a toungue-in-cheek reference to [[FIRRIB]], portraying ''[[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]]'' as unable to tell them apart! (For the record, the [[Decepticon Mini-Cassette|cassettes]] make it clear that for this continuity, Rumble is the blue one while Frenzy is red.)
*Energon is shown to be blue, as it was portrayed in most media of the 2010s.

*Fans have often used "LamBros" as an informal term for [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]] and [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]], but this is the first time that term has been used in-fiction, with the brothers having pasted "LAMbros 4EVA" on the door to their quarters.

==Synopsis==
A group of [[Junkion (species)|Junkion]]s led by [[Wreck-Gar (G1)|Wreck-Gar]] come across the [[Rockeroid]] and the carnage that was left within. As they examine the remains of the [[Skuxxoid]], they find that each half of his body has begun regenerating what they were missing. They decide to take the bodies with them as they return to [[Junkion (planet)|their home planet]].

Later, the regenerated Skuxxoid awakens in a shock, yelling with concern about his wife and kids... only to turn and see ''another'' Skuxxoid with a thankfully distinguishing face scar. The Scarred Skuxxoid explains to the New Skuxxoid that neither of them are the Original Skuxxoid, and that each time a Skuxxoid loses a big enough piece, it regenerates into a new individual. The wife and kids belonged to the Original, they just have his memories. As the Skuxxoids ponder what this means for their existence, they are attacked by [[Akronus]], who also hitched a ride with the Junkions.

The Junkions arrive and Akronus attacks them as well, but is unable to contend with their size alone and is quickly subdued until he yields. When the Skuxxoids question why they're letting him go, Wreck-Gar, in his own unique way, says that everyone on Junkion is equally lost and broken. The Skuxxoids have difficulty understanding the Junkion, but Akronus recognizes some of the words and speech patterns as that of human [[television]]. However, this moment of open communication is interrupted by an attack from a mysterious robot, which uses a device to stun and abduct the Skuxxoids. It transports them to an unknown world in deep space where it presents them to its master: [[Skuxxoid Alpha]], who wishes for them to join his Skuxxoid Army!

==Synopsis==
Following his grueling ordeals with [[M.A.R.S.|M.A.R.S. Industries]] and [[Starscream (G1)|that giant robot that turned into a plane]], First Sergeant [[Duke (G.I. Joe)|Conrad "Duke" Hauser]] has been placed in command of the newly formed special mission force codenamed [[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]]. During a training exercise with his new team, the JUMP jet pack used by [[Baroness|Anastasia "Baroness" Cisarovna]] - Duke’s most controversial recruit with both his fellow Joes and Colonel [[Hawk (G.I. Joe)|Hawk]] - ends up malfunctioning. Duke dives down to rescue her, much to the Baroness’ annoyance. In a meeting with Hawk afterwards, Duke reflects that for as skilled as his team is, they’re yet not ready to face the enemy.

Meanwhile, in [[Springfield (G.I. Joe)|Springfield, USA]] - headquarters of the clandestine [[Cobra]] organization - [[Destro]] meets with [[Cobra Commander]] to discuss the next phase of their plans for world domination using the mysterious substance [[energon]]. Destro presents the Commander with his next innovation: a rifle using energon not just as a power source, but as ammunition. Cobra Commander hisses with satisfaction at this new laser weapon.

At a nightclub in [[Abu Dhabi]], an operative codenamed [[Risk (G.I. Joe)|Risk]] confronts a local boss, who has previously refused to talk to him. After taking out his bodyguards singlehandedly, Risk delivers one, simple message to the boss: don’t sell to M.A.R.S. Industries. At that moment, he gets a message on a wrist communicator, ordering him to “return home.”

Duke watches the sun rise above the [[Pit (G.I. Joe)|Pit]]. Hawk joins him, and Duke confides that he isn’t sure how to turn the Joes into a proper team, feeling they should all be doing what he would do, but Hawk counters that what will make G.I. Joe work is each member’s distinct differences. He then tells Duke to get some rest: G.I. Joe has their first mission tomorrow.

The next morning, Duke briefs the Joes on their mission: a piece of recovered technology from the wreckage of the [[Cybertron (planet)|alien world]] that recently fell into the [[Pacific Ocean]] is currently being studied at a facility in [[Colorado]]. However, a series of break-ins at various advanced technology facilities across the world makes this a potential target. The Joes’ mission is to protect the facility and make sure the alien technology doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. At that same time, Destro briefs the Cobra Troopers on the target of their next mission to acquire more energon... a lab in Colorado! Destro orders the Troopers to support [[Mercer]] and his [[Cobra Viper]]s so they can get in, acquire the technology, and get out as quickly as possible. However, Cobra Commander has other ideas, believing this to be the moment that Cobra should step out of the shadows.

At the Colorado facility, Baroness is indignant that their first mission has them acting as glorified babysitter, leading to an exchange of snipes between her and [[Stalker (G.I. Joe)|Stalker]]. However, their bickering is interrupted by the facility’s power going out. The screens on the lab computers goes static, then turns red with the Cobra insignia. Outside, a [[F.A.N.G.]] fires on the top floor of the facility, forcing the Joes to take cover as a squad of Cobra Troopers siege the building. Duke orders [[Rock 'n Roll]], [[Clutch (G.I. Joe)|Clutch]], and [[Cover Girl]] to get the asset away from the facility while Stalker and Baroness cover them, opting to take out the F.A.N.G. himself by diving out the window. Though he is able to take out the helicopter’s pilot, the Cobra forces quickly overwhelm the Joes, bolstered by the arrival of Mercer and his Vipers wielding Destro’s new energon blasters. The Vipers corner Clutch and Cover Girl, but Rock 'n Roll does his best to take them on and allow the others to escape. However, as he charges confidently at the Vipers, he is blasted through multiple times by their energon-powered fire!

Having not been seen for eight days following Chameleon's attack, [[Destro]] has been presumed dead and [[Tomax and Xamot]] are ready to seize [[M.A.R.S.]] for themselves, meeting with [[Darklon (G.I. Joe)|Darklon]] - now the acting CEO of his cousin's company - in [[Darklonia]]. While Darklon initially balks at the idea of selling his family's company, the Crimson Twins present him with a ''very'' generous check. Darklon reluctantly accepts and orders [[Mercer]] to prepare a demonstration of the [[Battle Android Trooper]]s. The Twins are impressed with the B.A.T.'s offensive capabilities, wondering why Destro hadn’t unveiled them before, though they soon get their answer as the B.A.T.s turn on each other after eliminating their targets. Upon seeing their flaw, the Twins call them utterly unmarketable.

Meanwhile, Destro has been pouring through the files he received from [[General Flagg]], learning all sorts of secrets about military operations, including one involving [[Duke (G.I. Joe)|Conrad "Duke" Hauser]] encountering an [[Starscream (G1)|an intelligent plane]]. As he learns, this report led to further investigation of who could be behind such technology, leading the [[CIA]] to infiltrate various American companies. On a list of infiltrated companies, one stands out to Destro: [[Hybrid Technologies]].

Destro ends up crashing the party of [[Astoria Carlton-Ritz]], who is shocked to see him alive. She invites him to a meeting room upstairs, but flees out the back door. Destro alerts [[Scrap-Iron]] to her position, and as Astoria exits the building, the M.A.R.S. weaponsmith fires a rocket at her. However, Astoria turns around and neutralizes the missile with an EMP blast... one that appears to come from her own body! Destro reveals that he had deduced the truth: her father had always dreamed of what robotic enhancements could do for humanity, experimenting with them on Astoria. ''She'' was Chameleon the entire time, using a blonde wig and goggles to disguise herself. Destro also believes her to be behind the attack on the Darklonia arms fair, but she reveals that she was only responsible for attacking him in the [[Scottish Highlands]], only doing so out of the (incorrect) belief that he was aware of Project: [[Overkill (G.I. Joe)|Overkill]].

Project: Overkill was her and her father’s pet project: a "peacekeeping" artificial intelligence that could learn about and neutralize potential threats before they happen on a global scale. Astoria believed it to be a path to world peace, but Destro sees it for what it is: the ultimate weapon. She then reveals that the Overkill AI woke up before it was ready and, while still working with Astoria, has begun making its own decisions; Overkill attacked the arms fair against her orders because it perceived it to be a threat. And Astoria is afraid of what it might do next. When Destro asks where the AI is, she reveals it to be watching them from a satellite in orbit.

Now acting as the heads of M.A.R.S. Industries, Tomax and Xamot dig through Destro’s files, discovering one of his recent contacts. Believing their goals more mutually aligned than that of Destro, the Crimson Twins arrange a meeting… with [[Cobra Commander]]!
