[[Raf Esquivel|Raf]] picks up a signal from [[Scotland]] and [[GroundBridge]]s [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]] back to the [[Autobot]] base. [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]] asks why he's returned alone, and Wheeljack disdainfully notes that the mission was a failure, and that the rest of his team will be returning via [[Ultra Magnus's ship]]. [[William Fowler|Fowler]] emerges from his office with reports of [[Decepticon]] activity in [[New Mexico]]. With [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime's]] team still in [[Texas]] and the rest of the [[Wrecker]]s not yet returned from Scotland, that leaves Arcee and Wheeljack to continue the hunt for [[Predacon (Prime)|Predacon]] remains. They bridge to Fowler's coordinates and end up right in the middle of a squadron of [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]]s. The two Autobots take them out quickly, impressing one another with their skills.

[[June Darby|June]] arrives at the Autobot base to pick up medical supplies being donated by Fowler, who asks her to call him "William". Raf announces that he's discovered a Predacon talon in a museum, kept in storage because scientists didn't know how to classify it. Fowler volunteers to retrieve the fossil, and invites June to accompany him. She's reluctant at first, but is angered by the hypocrisy in [[Jack Darby|Jack]] forbidding her from endangering herself, and agrees to go.

On the outer hull of the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'', [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] praises his [[Predaking (Prime)|new pet]] for successfully retrieving the fossil from Scotland. [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] reports the discovery of another Predacon energy signature, and Megatron orders him to acquire it. [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] arrives to mock Knock Out, but Megatron halts their bickering by telling Starscream to take Knock Out's place on monitor duty. As Megatron and Knock Out return inside the ship, a frustrated Starscream kicks the Predacon's tail. The beast responds with a vicious tail swipe that narrowly misses Starscream and wrecks the ship's communications array.

In a cave in New Mexico, Arcee inquires as to Wheeljack's foul mood. Wheeljack tries to brush off her questions, but Arcee persists, claiming that she knows Wheeljack only pretends to prefer working solo.

Fowler and June emerge from the museum with the Predacon talon in tow, joking about the experience and comparing past relationships. Their bonding is interrupted by the arrival of Knock Out, who renders them unconscious with a beam of light. They awake in the [[Decepticon]]'s trunk moments before he speeds off into the desert, leaving June's cell phone crushed on the ground. Knock Out attempts to request a GroundBridge, but is unable to make contact with the base.

On the ''Nemesis'', Starscream rants about the Predacon disabling their communications network while a couple of Vehicons attempt to repair it. Starscream enters an override code into a nearby computer console to reboot the system, but this only produces a shower of sparks.

Jack is worrying about how long his mother is taking when he receives a call from [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]]. She says that [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] is worried about Wheeljack, and Jack explains that he's on a mission with Arcee. Miko is annoyed that Wheeljack would replace Bulkhead so quickly, but also admits that she expected the two lone wolves to hook up.

June and Fowler bicker within Knock Out's trunk until the Decepticon tells them to stifle themselves. He continues to attempt communication with the ''Nemesis'', and June and Fowler begin devising an escape plan.

While digging in the cave walls, Wheeljack reveals to Arcee that Bulkhead, not [[Ultra Magnus (WFC)|Ultra Magnus]], is the source of his current frustration. He feels his onetime partner has gone soft. Arcee tells him that people change and he has to either adapt or rust. She knows [[Tailgate (Prime)|from]] [[Cliffjumper (WFC)|experience]] the pain of losing a partner.

Fowler emerges from Knock Out's trunk and into his vehicle interior, forcing the startled Decepticon to stop at a railroad yard by twisting his steering wheel and slamming on the break. June races from the car with the Predacon talon and Fowler flees in the opposite direction. Knock Out transforms and quickly finds Fowler hiding amongst the freight cars. He grabs Fowler and threatens to kill him if June doesn't reveal herself and the talon.

Jack tries calling his mother and Fowler, but both of their phones go straight to voicemail. Raf innocently suggests they went to a movie.

As he lugs a Predacon spine out of the cave, Wheeljack admits that he was wrong to abandon Bulkhead like they did. Arcee receives a distress call from Jack, who is now in the museum parking lot holding his mother's crushed phone and watching a set of tire tracks lead into the desert.

At the train yard, Knock Out notices a a railcar pull away, revealing a defiant June. She tells Knock Out that she hid the fossil in one of the cars, and will only tell him which after he's let Fowler go. Knock Out realizes the fossil is most likely on the departing train car, grabs June, and heads after it.

On the ''Nemesis'', a furious Megatron discovers that communications have been down for hours. No sooner does [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]] get the network back online than Knock Out calls again, reporting that he has the Predacon bone in his sights and Wheeljack and Arcee on his tail.

A squad of [[Insecticon (Prime)|Insecticons]] are GroundBridged to Knock Out's location and open fire on the pursuing Autobots. Wheeljack and Arcee fight back but continue to move forward. Knock Out reaches the freight car where the bone is hidden and launches himself into the air, transforming to robot mode as he does and letting June and Fowler drop. Below, Wheeljack transforms into robot mode, catches them, and transforms back into vehicle mode with the humans inside. Knock Out snatches the fossil and makes it through the Decepticon GroundBridge before Arcee can catch him.

At the Autobot base, Jack is relieved to see his mother, but less excited that she's taken to calling Fowler "Bill". Miko teases that Jack has also lost his Autobot partner to Wheeljack. But Wheeljack and Bulkhead quickly make up, much to Miko and Jack's delight.

Back at the ''Nemesis'', Megatron congratulates Knock Out and chastises Starscream. While Starscream again blames the Predacon's bestial stupidity, the so-called beast is busy entering Starscream's access code into the computer console from earlier, calling up the ship's information on Predacons.

[[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]] reveals the [[Predacon (Prime)|Predacon]] he's cloned in his laboratory. [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] is impressed, and as the scientist gives the Predacon a whiff of [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]]'s energon, announces that the hunt has begun.

[[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]], Wheeljack and [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]] scope out an energon mine, planning to blow it up to hopefully draw the attention of nearby Autobots, while in the ''[[Harbinger]]'', [[Raf Esquivel|Raf]], [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] and [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]] work on getting the ship systems up and running. On a deserted road, [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]] introduces [[Jack Darby|Jack]] to [[Ultra Magnus (WFC)|Ultra Magnus]], who has followed the Omega beam to Earth. Jack is discouraged by the fact that Ultra Magnus's sensors have only picked up five out of seven Autobots, but Arcee reminds him that the sensors wouldn't pick up shielded Autobots.

[[Smokescreen (Prime)|Smokescreen]] heads into [[Darkmount (Earth)|Darkmount]] to find the [[Forge of Solus Prime]] and figures it may have been stored within the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]''. Using the [[phase shifter]], he moves through the ship and eventually stumbles onto the vault where both [[Airachnid (Prime)|Airachnid]] and the Forge are being stored.

Wheeljack and Bulkhead finish planting explosives in the mine, but as they prepare to detonate, they spot the incoming Predacon. After dodging its initial blast of flame, they try to counterattack, and Wheeljack is knocked flying by the thing's tail. Bulkhead belts the creature shortly before it attacks him with a blast of flame, sending him flying. They quickly realise it's after Wheeljack, who lures it over a grenade. The beast is unscathed by the explosion, so Wheeljack instead leads it into the energon mine before speeding out and setting off the explosions. The dust barely has time to settle before the creature digs its way out. As the Wreckers prepare to fight, Ultra Magnus's ship streaks into view, striking the Predacon with its cannons and picking the trio up. Though a joyous reunion ensues, the ship's still being pursued. His ship's engine is damaged in the chase, and the creature manages to catch up and cling to the hull. Bringing the ship into a narrow canyon, Magnus scraps the Predacon off using a rocky outcropping.

[[William Fowler|Fowler]] gets another call he thinks is from Megatron, but this time it's Ratchet, who has hacked into the Decepticon frequencies. Ratchet doesn't have any news of Jack for [[June Darby|June]], but before he can tell them much else, Bumblebee interrupts the call. Running outside, they find Ultra Magnus's ship landing, and more reunions take place.

The Predacon returns empty-handed to Darkmount, and Starscream reflects that it's a pity the creature can't tell them what went wrong. It responds by quietly growling.

Ratchet reports that the ''Harbinger'' [[GroundBridge]] is fully operational. The group of Autobots is soon joined by Fowler and Jack's mom. They wonder where Smokescreen's gotten to, as all the Autobot traces Magnus could detect are now accounted for. Regardless, they prepare to fight back against Megatron without either of the missing Autobots—Ultra Magnus assumes command and takes the other Autobots to equip themselves with weapons.

Smokescreen drags the Forge back to the cavern where Optimus is sheltered, but Optimus insists the Forge's power is limited and must be conserved to repair the Omega Lock. Smokescreen points out that if Optimus dies, there won't be a [[Prime (rank)|Prime]] to work the Forge, but Optimus says it's time for a new leader, and believes Smokescreen is it.

* In "[[Regeneration (Prime)|Regeneration]]", Optimus claimed that recreating the Omega Keys was beyond his skill. Unless repairing an existing object doesn't require such skill, it seems even less likely that he or any Autobot given Prime status would be capable of repairing the far more complex device they were intended to operate. For that matter, it seems likely the keys themselves were destroyed in the blast.

Atop the Decepticon warship, [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] asks [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] what he seeks in return for the [[Omega Key]]s, his answer being that he merely wishes to once more be a [[Decepticon]] under Megatron's command. Megatron points out that [[Dreadwing (Prime)|Dreadwing]] is now his second-in-command, and Starscream insists he will keep to his place. Skeptical, Megatron has [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] extracted from the wall so that he can connect Megatron and Starscream with a [[cortical psychic patch]].

By rummaging through Starscream's memories, Megatron intends to find what really drives him. Once inside, he reminds Starscream that there are no secrets, even as they watch Starscream's base consciousness obnoxiously celebrating becoming leader of the Decepticons, much to the present Starscream's embarrassment and Megatron's amusement.

He begins by reviewing the events surrounding the [[space bridge]] explosion. Megatron watches various instances of Starscream's attempts at assassination: the time he made a bunch of clones to infiltrate the ''Nemesis''; and when he tried to make a deal with Airachnid. Starscream lamely claims he was half-crazed with energon deficiency at the time, and insists he always had Megatron's best interests at heart, like removing the [[Dark Energon]] from his body so his mind did not become corrupted by it. Naturally, Megatron doesn't buy it. Upon replaying Starscream's musings when Megatron was trapped underground, he suggests that Starscream refrain from thinking out loud in the future. He also drops the hint that if Starscream fails to be convincing, the patch session will end in Starscream's termination.

Starscream claims the occasional trouncing is enough to bring him back into line, and tries to play up his own generosity, bringing up the gift of [[Cliffjumper (WFC)|Cliffjumper]]'s corpse for Dark Energon experimentation, and his use of his wits in dealing with the Autobots. Megatron points out his wits are usually insufficient to compensate for his arrogance: when he faced [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]] while charged up on Dark Energon; or when he tried to use the [[Energon Harvester]] on [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]]. The revelation that [[MECH]] took Starscream's [[transformation cog|T-Cog]] greatly amuses Megatron, though Starscream is hoping that that might be restored to him in exchange for the Omega Keys — after all, he usually transforms with such style. He points out that at the time he deserted the Deception cause, he was not being made to feel particularly welcome there, despite apparently learning his place. Megatron does not believe Starscream's change of heart at the time would have lasted, and replays a discussion between Starscream and Knock Out while Megatron was lying in a coma in the sick bay. In the real world, Knock Out starts to realize that Starscream's memories are going to be equally incriminating to himself. Panicking, he comes up with a plan to disconnect the patch, trapping Megatron in Starscream's mind.

As Knock Out goes to unplug Megatron, Dreadwing stops him and he is forced to make up an excuse. Megatron's psychic interrogation of Starscream continues, and while Starscream claims that not even Dreadwing may have been a "perfect" replacement as his second-in-command, Megatron agrees, but points out at least Dreadwing and his departed brother [[Skyquake (Prime)|Skyquake]] were loyal and honorable. Starscream's memories of Skyquake's death and revival through Dark Energon are replayed, and he recalls how Skyquake was left in an undead state in some dimensional nether-realm. This revelation comes as a shock to Dreadwing, who is still watching in the lab. Megatron announces that Starscream will be allowed to rejoin the Decepticon forces proper, as they ''must'' be working as one unit if Cybertron is to be properly restored, a fact also addressed to the watching Knock Out. Shaken, Knock Out turns away from the monitor to discover that Dreadwing is no longer in the room. The second-in-command is instead on the outer hull of the ''Nemesis'', and aims a scream of rage at the sky.
