==Fiction==
Story-wise, not much is known about the original concept. It likely would have picked up on [[technorganic]] [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] following the events of ''Beast Machines''. It's also likely another [[Mainframe Entertainment]] CGI animated series would have supported the line, though no evidence of this has ever surfaced.

==Toys==

The characters transformed into Cybertronic vehicles that in many cases had animal-like features/deco. Cheetor was a Cybertronic race-car with a cheetah-like paint job, for instance, and Prime (confusingly invoking [[Optimus Primal (BW)|Optimus Primal]]) was a truck whose front end looked like an ape's face. Designs were done by [[Draxhall Jump]] and had somewhat less traditional robot modes (Cheetor had large hoop "wheels" for shoulders and feet, for instance) and didn't always resemble older versions of the character very closely. The overall aesthetic was somewhere in-between ''Beast Machines''' odder moments and the highly complex designs from the [[live-action film series]]. Many of these designs were first shown at [[BotCon 2002]] (apparently without Hasbro's permission, as they were pulled from the booth halfway through the show) and subsequently made available online.

Online retailer [[BigBadToyStore]] posted a preliminary retailer list of early 2001 ''Transformers'' product in December 2000.<ref>http://web.archive.org/web/20001206140100/http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/news.asp</ref> In addition to revealing several unproduced and delayed ''Beast Machines'' toys, the listing indicated the intent of releasing ''Transtech'' in the summer of 2001 launching with 4 deluxes (Shockwave, Starscream, Cheetor and Silverbolt) along side 2 mega class figures and 2 Ultra class figures (the requisite Optimus and Megatron). A second wave consisting of a deluxe Rattrap and another unnamed deluxe was due shortly after this initial wave.

Design sketches for a [[Megatron (disambiguation)|Megatron]] and a [[Scavenger (disambiguation)|Scavenger]] of uncertain identity also exist.

The toyline got to the early [[Prototype|hardcopy prototype]] stage, and some prototypes, including Cheetor, Starscream, and Prime, have surfaced. None of them apparently reached a stage of production where real, usable molds were created, and so future release is extremely unlikely.

When Draxhall Jump made their design sketches for Transtech available, they also included a number of designs from other lines (such as GI Joe), but put them all under the "Transtech" header for their web page, causing a bit of confusion. This artwork included a work-up sketch of [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] as a souped-up blue boom-box, which is often mistaken to be a member of the Transtech line.

==Cancellation==
The reasons for ''Transtech''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s cancellation remain unknown for certain, though over the years, a number of possible reasons have been speculated, among them: negative fan reaction to ''Beast Machines'', conflict with Mainframe, economic difficulties due to poor performance by other Hasbro toylines at the time (notably the significant under-performance of the first ''[[Star Wars (franchise)|Star Wars]]'' prequel), differences with Takara, or simply a desire to go in a new direction. The most likely explanation is not a singular culprit, but a number of corresponding culprits, perhaps culminating in the closing of Hasbro's Cincinnati offices and departures of staff, followed by the subsequent relocation to Hasbro's central offices in Rhode Island.

The cancellation of ''Transtech'' led to the Japanese ''Car Robots'' cartoon and toyline [[Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2001 franchise)|being imported]] as a stopgap measure while Hasbro and Takara began to work together to jointly create and launch the ''[[Transformers: Armada (franchise)|Armada]]'' line.

In robot mode, his primary weapon is a spinning blade-gun/double mace-thing/lawn edge trimmer, though the television series liberally reinterpreted this weapon as a sort of Gatling gun (the aforementioned "Chaingun of Doom"). All four parts store away inside his beast mode: the main body/spinner stores in his stomach (though this compresses the spring inside so it's not a good idea to leave it in there for long-term storage), the sawblade pegs onto his spine under the beast-mode plating, and each chain-flail pegs into holes inside his rhino-mode rhino-mold flank-plates. Included are Rhinox's twin "Gatling Guns of Doom", which can be stored in his rhino mode and have a spinning [[gimmick]] when you press down on the little lever/button whatevers on the sides. Although the discs of the gatling guns are silver in the stock photography, the final product leaves them in an unpainted brownish color, similar to the color of the levers.

:Rhinox's instructions neglect to mention a few things—the slot below the robot head that plugs into a tab on the inside of the rhino head that holds the two pieces together in beast mode, the fact that the sliding elbow pieces can click into place in both modes, and the holes on the back of the shoulders that can be used to store the weapons in robot mode.

:Early runs of Rhinox were known to have extremely loose knee joints, to the point the figure was unable to stand up unless posed in a way that offsets his very top-heavy design. Later samples seemed to have resolved the knee issue, but the figure's feet have uneven soles which can still lead to balance problems. Rhinox does feature a waist swivel, but it's intended for transformation, meaning the waist must be mistransformed via extending to use it. Lastly, Rhinox's hands feature extended index fingers in a trigger position, which ironically obstruct the guns themselves and prevent them from being inserted completely into the 5 mm pegholes.

The lime and gold on Rhinox have been toned down brightness-wise and the horns are made of soft plastic. Unlike previous toys, this Rhinox utilizes a faux lower rhino jaw for his robot torso. In a departure from the rest of ''Kingdom'', Rhinox's robot mode takes its inspiration not from the cartoon's CGI model, but directly from his ''[[Transformers: Forged to Fight|Forged to Fight]]'' phone game model, which itself was a liberal adaptation of the ''Thrilling 30'' toy. A chunk of Hydrus Four containing a large crystal of Nucleon broke off from the planet and was sent hurtling through space towards Cybertron. When [[Gutcruncher (G1)|Gutcruncher]], a [[Decepticon Warlord]], got wind of the unknown power contained in the asteroid, he began preparations to try and seize it. The [[Elite Guard|Cybertron Elite Guard]] also heard about the asteroid and Gutcruncher's mission, and [[Powerflash]]'s [[Stealth Team (G1)|Stealth Team]] was assigned to try and stop them. During the course of affairs, three Autobots and three Decepticons were exposed to the crystal's power. Despite gaining extraordinary power, they also lost the ability to transform. The crystal itself was destroyed soon after by [[Tap-Out (Universe)|Tap-Out]]. Nucleon is an energy source that [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]] believes could save Earth from destruction, calming the techno-organic struggle that's tearing the world apart. ==Synopsis==
Billions of years ago, a number of advanced planetary civilizations joined in alliances to create cultural connections. However, the mingling of so many different beings inevitably erupted in war that spread across the galaxy. To stop the enveloping war, the greatest minds of the planets came together and created an observational space station called "[[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]" that included a [[Vector Sigma|large processor]]. The intention of the machine was to maintain peace, which it accomplished once sent out into space.

The space station was built just too perfectly and it developed a will of its own. Using electromagnetic forces to draw in passing spacecraft and satellites, Cybertron added mass to its own, growing and growing. The computer at its core began to malfunction, losing any regulation or outside access. The alliance attempted to contain the mad station, but their attempts only met with failure. Cybertron simply kept expanding and draining resources from the galaxy till it was barren.

Hundreds of millions of years later, Cybertron began to evolve into something resembling a planet. Mountains were formed. Oceans of [[oil]] made. Soon, [[Atechnogenesis|mechanical life itself developed]]. Those life forms themselves evolved into the [[Transformer]]s. Their own great science and discovery in turn led to war between two factions over the resources of Cybertron. Of the two factions, the [[Decepticon]]s promoted conquest, while the [[Autobot]]s sought the peaceful gathering of energy. The war raged when the Autobots built [[Ark (G1)|a ship]] and took off in it, with the Decepticons following in [[Nemesis (G1)|their own ship]]. The crews of both ships crashed onto a planet known as [[Earth]].
