After [[Megatron (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Megatron]] began rebuilding his power base on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Hyperdrive and the Sports Car Patrol were some of his first recruits. Using the trans-dimensional patrol, Hyperdrive participated in the infiltration of the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]], joining his fellow Micromasters in tricking [[Ratchet (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Ratchet]] into believing that they were Autobots on their way back to Cybertron. Hyperdrive, being a loud-mouthed and obnoxious thug, somehow managed to keep quiet long enough for them to fool the Autobot medic and take him prisoner at [[Megatron's base]] on Cybertron. {{storylink|Back from the Dead}} Hyperdrive and the Micromasters jeered at Ratchet's manly robot tears when he realized how he'd been tricked. When Megatron made clear that Ratchet would come to no harm, as he had greater use for him, Hyperdrive openly voiced disappointment. Hyperdrive continued to be a punk, goading Detour into starting trouble with Megatron's other recruits, [[Darkwing (G1)|Darkwing]] and [[Dreadwind (G1)|Dreadwind]]. Megatron diffused the petty squabble between his troops, declaring their moment of triumph imminent. With [[Starscream (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Starscream]] fully repaired and upgraded into a mindless weapon of mass destruction, Megatron invited the Sports Car Patrol to join him in watching the Ark's destruction after they had disassembled Ratchet's lab. But Ratchet had been hatching a plot of his own, and caused a terminal in the lab to overload, catching Hyperdrive and the other Micromasters in its explosion. The Autobot then reactivated his buddies ([[Jazz (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Jazz]], [[Grimlock (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Grimlock]], and [[Bumblebee (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Bumblebee]]), and sicced them on Megatron and his minions. {{storylink|All the Familiar Faces!}} The Race Car Patrol swarmed Jazz, the battle going in their favor until Ratchet informed his teammate of his new capabilities as a Pretender. Once the Autobot managed to get the hang of remote-controlling his shell, Hyperdrive's group began losing ground. Megatron was still more than capable of dealing with the Autobots however, and pitched all three of the new Pretenders outside, ordering his minions after them while he chased down Ratchet through his base's corridors. The Sports Car Patrol's running battle with the Autobots luckily took them out of range of the massive explosion which leveled the entire complex when Ratchet teleported several bombs within it. He could first be seen hanging out in a secret nightclub in [[Little Iacon]] with the rest of the Micromasters and subsequently witnessing a race between [[Big Daddy (G1)|Big Daddy]] and [[Roadhandler (G1)|Roadhandler]]. {{storylink|The Gray Race}} After the end of the race, the whole group of Micromasters was attacked by the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]], who were in search of the [[Hot Rod Patrol]]. Hyperdrive served under [[Slipstream (G1)|Slipstream]] during an attack on a remote Titan Net subsidiary hub. Flamewar kept trying to christen them "[[Team Stream]]", but Hyperdrive kept telling her that was SO stupid. They infiltrated the hub and Hyperdrive killed [[Headrush]], one of the security agents on-site. The Rise used it to launch a data-bomb, shutting down the Titans in defensive orbit around Cybertron. {{storylink|The Change In Your Nature Part Four}} Once they abandoned the hub, the remaining Titan, [[Vigilem]], launched an attack on the Winged Moon at the direction of the Rise. Hyperdrive and Team Stream were deployed to the Winged Moon to secure its remaining energon for the Decepticons. {{storylink|Wheeljack: Orbital Decay}} A group of engineers still on the station fortified the place to prevent the Decepticons from entering.
