''[[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] is a world of wonders. As the [[Thirteen]] begat the [[Firstforged]], so too did the Firstforged and their descendants tame a savage world and build a civilization steeped in glory and mythology. But, as [[Termagax]] lays out in her blistering speech before the Cybertronian [[Senate]], the [[Nominus Edict]] has forced the people of Cybertron and their wonders into stagnation and complacency—but lawmakers cannot deny history, and when change comes, for good or ill, they will be the ones responsible for what happens next.''

In the present day, [[Blades (G1)|Blades]], [[Windblade (G1)|Windblade]], and [[Springer (G1)|Springer]] lead the brunt of the [[Insecticon clone|Insecticlones]] on a merry chase, giving [[Firestar (G1)|Novastar]] and the rest of her insertion team the opening they need to breach the dead [[Titan (group)|Titan]] that the Insecticons have turned into their primary hive. Outside [[Darkmount (Cybertron)|Darkmount]], meanwhile, [[Hound (G1)|Hound]], [[Tap-Out (Universe)|Tap-Out]] and [[Road Rage (G1)|Road Rage]] try to capture one of the creatures alive, so that Prime's science team—Termagax, [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]], [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]], and [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]]—can reverse-engineer a [[data-bomb]] to breach the Insecticon neural network and bring down the swarm from within. However, Termagax reminds the Autobots that her plan is entirely contingent on whether or not Novastar can install the receiver inside the hive: for her, whether or not Novastar ''survives'' the adventure is a secondary concern.

''Many kilocycles ago, in [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]]'s [[Archives]], [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Orion Pax]] speaks with [[Codexa]] about his recent tour of the Cybertronian commonwealth and his plans for the future. Orion muses that, for all that the Cybertronian race has done, the people of Cybertron still know very little about the wider universe, and Cybertron's inability to temper its infamously heavy-handed approach could lead to further conflict. Codexa, dissatisfied with Cybertron's changing political landscape, is already finalizing her preparations to go [[immersant]]... but when the time comes, it will not be Orion who takes over her position. Orion's already eyeing a new career in politics, alongside his friend [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]; no matter where his [[spark]] takes him, however, Codexa tells him that she's proud to have known such a good 'bot.''

In the present day, Optimus Prime, [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], and the [[Senate Guard|Prime Guard]] struggle to hold off the ravenous tide of [[rust worm]]s, which attack not just from the front, but from ''below'', and nearly snag an Autobot before Prime intervenes. Not far away, [[Chromia (G1)|Chromia]] and her team accuse [[Red Wing]] of breaking their ceasefire, but the arrogant [[Seeker (body-type)|Seeker]] insists that the Decepticons are merely conducting an operation against the rust worms and orders them to turn back. When [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]] orders the group to fall back, Chromia muses that they might not make it out of this one alive; Prime grimly agrees, but hopes against hope that they might still have enough time to pull off a miracle...

In Darkmount, Tap-Out grapples with one of the Kickback-type clones, who's carried him aloft to eat him—fortunately, Road Rage intervenes, shoots the monster out of the sky, and gives Tap-Out the opportunity to put his wrestling skills to work as he piledrives another clone into the ground, knocking it unconscious just long enough for Hound to fire a netgun and capture the Insecticon. Their victory is short-lived, however: already, ''another'' swarm darkens the horizon...

Inside the Titan, [[Cromar]] and the other members of Novastar's insertion team discuss their mission: the neural network that ties all the clones together is inexorably linked to their progenitor [[Bombshell (G1)|Bombshell]], and taking him out is the only way they can hack the network. While Smokescreen and Cromar sweep ahead, Novastar and Javelin note that the tunnels seem empty, and wonder if the clones have spread themselves too thin... only to stumble across the latest batch as they swarm up toward the surface! Cromar combines with Javelin to help her hold off the clones, a sacrifice that gives Smokescreen and Novastar the opportunity to head deeper into the Titan and finish their mission.

Outside, Darkmount, Termagax and the other members of Optimus Prime's science team watch as the swarm darkens the sky. Having invested all their time and resources into repairing the comatose [[Lodestar (Titan)|Lodestar]] and the final ''[[Ark (G1)|Ark]]''-class starship, the besieged city has nothing left to stave off this latest assault; realizing what must be done, Termagax opens a secure channel to [[House (building)|House]] and orders it into action. The sight of House striding away from the city walls baits the clone swarm into breaking off their pursuit of Hound and the other Autobots; bit by bit, the clones whittle away at House's structural integrity until the walking fortress reaches a safe distance. As the Insecticons swarm over the building, Termagax briefly thanks House for its service... then, triggers the "Endpoint" protocol that overloads House's reactor and obliterates the entire swarm, and House with it, with a single blast.

Inside the Titan, Bombshell orders the other two Insecticons to keep eating their fallen soldiers and generate the energon they need to power the [[cloning]] machines and recuperate their mounting losses. Tired and delirious from gorging themselves for cycles on end, Kickback grumbles that they're running out of stamina; when their leader slaps them into action, Kickback turns on Bombshell, and the scuffle leaves both of them distracted just long enough for Novastar to leap from a nearby access vent and slap the receiver directly into Bombshell's head. As Smokescreen, Javelin, and Cromar join the brawl, the three keep the monsters at bay just long enough for Termagax—still mourning the loss of her House—to patch her orders through the receiver and into the Insecticon net.

As Optimus and the other Autobots do what they can against the worms, another Insecticlone swarm darkens the sky... but ''these'' clones ignore the Autobots entirely and attack the worms instead! By turning the two threats against each other, Termagax has, for the moment, solved their problem, but this reprieve won't last forever. As the Autobots wade through the liquid rust back towards Darkmount, a flash of light heralds the arrival of [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]], toting an [[imploder]] and a message from Megatron as the Decepticon army rolls towards them: stay where they are, or they all die...

As if an [[Ion blaster|almost]] [[Barrage cannon|unbeatable]] [[Dual Energon Swords|arsenal]] was not enough, [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]] also has his '''energon hooks''', if he wants to make things more [[Decapitation|daring]] in ways that swords can't.

The energon hooks are extended from his forearms in the same manner as the swords.

The icing on the cake was giving him Optimus Prime's face.

His first known attack was on the remnants of an Autobot force led by [[Spin-Out (G1)|Spin-Out]], where Toxitron was 'taken prisoner' and then wiped out the soldiers. His second was attacking a factory making the ''[[Ark (G1)|Ark]]'' engines, where he used the transponder from Spin-Out's rotting head to sneak in and went on to throw down with [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]]. In each place he was used, he would especially loathe any Autobot whose armor was "too shiny". {{storylink|The Toxic Transformer}} At some point during all this, Shockwave or one of his subordinates used Toxitron to "grow" a Matrix shell, which later became part of [[Thunder Mayhem]]. {{storylink|Foundation and Wreckage Part 1: Deadly Aim|Deadly Aim}}

The mad scientists got complacent and when the primary stasis implant melted, they assumed Toxitron was too conditioned to have realized it. Instead, the mutant was just waiting until a resupply ship arrived at the lab and then he broke free, butchered his tormentors in a very nasty way, and almost reached the ship to escape before the secondary implant kicked in. After that, the lab was abandoned. Toxitron stood immobile and alone until, after [[Thunder Mayhem]] had destroyed Cybertron, the [[Wreckers]] came to recruit him for a revenge mission. He'd been tortured into being a monster and now [[Impactor (G1)|Impactor]], who openly said he didn't care what Toxie had done as long as he helped fight, was offering him a chance to belong but only to a group of monsters. Toxitron found that bloody funny and agreed to join. {{storylink|The Toxic Transformer}} Unbeknownst to them, Toxitron was also swayed by the idea of being part of a team, though he wasn't about to let them know that.

After the team recruited two new members, [[Alpha Bravo]] and [[Offroad (CW)|Offroad]], Toxitron was recruited by Fractyl as a guinea-pig, hoping his resemblance to Optimus Prime would assist the scientist in an experimental mix of greenergon and a sample of Toxitron's fluids. Toxitron's animated ranting about Thunder Mayhem, and the cruelties of life, caused an accident in the lab.

Later on, after being knocked out with some assistance from Offroad, Toxitron had a special orb installed in him that would allow him to combine with others, along with an other ''special'' device of Impactor's. Afterward, the Wrecker took the motley crew on a daytrip to a Mechcannibal hive. Toxitron, for his part, was overjoyed to see such hideous creatures... at least until they took an interest in the "spicy" mechanoid, proving immune to his deteriorating touch. Before he could be devoured, the team formed the mighty Wreckage for the first time. However, the mesh of psyches proved uncontrollable, and the creation was soon split apart.

After recovering, Toxitron stumbled upon Alpha Bravo, the Autobot having fatally wounded Offroad in an attempt to prevent Wreckage ever forming again. Angered at this, though also impressed by the consequences of the Autobot's actions, Toxitron promptly ran Alpha Bravo through with his sword. In the aftermath, Impactor indicated he'd devised a means of dealing with their combined form if the situation went too far. Outraged at being lied to ''again'', Toxitron went on a rampage through the ship. {{storylink|Foundation and Wreckage Part 1: Deadly Aim|Deadly Aim}}

The Wreckers followed a signal back to Cybertron, where they met the Autobot gunner known as [[Bluestreak (G1)|Bluestreak]]. The chatterbox impressed Toxitron, both with his kill record and his penchant not to brag about it, especially after Thunder Mayhem. Bluestreak had met alien terraformers known as the [[Teklaan]]s who offered to restore Cybertron, but betrayed him and placed him in captivity along with the Wreckers. They learned the rejuvenation effect was something of a slow invasion, designed to destroy the planet again within a generation, allowing the Teklaans to claim it according to their programming.

When the Wreckers broke out, Toxitron, Fractyl, and Counterpunch made their way to the planetary rejuvenation emitter in the Teklaan ship. They came up with an idea to absorb and contain the rejuvenation radiation within the crystalline lattice of Toxitron's Greenergon matrix, but it seemed like the energy would be more than Toxitron could handle. Impactor and Bluestreak arrived, having modified themselves for Combination, and it was decided Wreckage might be able to absorb more power than Toxitron alone. The Wreckers combiner was reformed and successfully stopped the terraforming process and destroyed the Teklaan ship. Wreckage also pointedly located and removed Impactor's failsafe device from within the portion of him that was Toxitron. {{storylink|Lively Pursuit}}

Toxitron and the Wreckers received a signal tracking Thunder Mayhem to the planet [[Earth]]. The pod crashed in the ocean of Pequod, and was swallowed along with its dead passenger by a dying Klud, possibly the last of its breed. The [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]] energy permeating the dead scientist infused the Klud with new life.

The revitalized Klud became a terror around the city of [[Gottlieb]], destroying several boats and attracting unwanted attention that threatened the city's vacation tourism trade. The local [[harbor master]] was pressured into silence, as a bounty posted by city officials for the creature attracted all manner of thrill- and profit-seekers... as well as three Autobots searching for the lost Creation Matrix.

Investigating the wreckage of two boats, the Autobots encountered the Klud itself—which promptly bit off [[Longtooth]]'s leg below the knee. The encounter left the Autobot in a state of madness, driven to revenge. Longtooth stole [[The Orca|the bigger of the two boats]] and hunted the creature for six days, finally running it down. Oddly enough, the Klud was saved by a Decepticon attack, as [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]] sought clues to the Matrix's whereabouts. Despite the battle, Longtooth yet again managed to draw a bead on the worn-down Klud, until [[Pincher (G1)|Pincher]] managed to talk him down by reminding him of his Autobot code of honor.

Longtooth stayed his hand, and the Klud, though wounded, swam away alive.
