In battle, he is able to use a self-produced toxin that causes agitation and confusion, increasing his aggressiveness ten-fold. Usage of the toxin is governed by whether Grizzly-1 uses his [[mutant head]]. Even his faithful bat partner, [[Nightshriek]], stays out of his way in this state!

However this was just a front to the true plan, to challenge the Maximals for control of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Magmatron needed an army, and prehistoric Earth was littered with the stasis pods that had been abandoned by the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]''. Magmatron had Razorbeast awaken these [[Protoform|protoforms]] as [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]], however, Razorbeast inserted a virus into the protoform-awakening software which allowed some of them to retain their Maximal allegiance. {{storylink|The Gathering issue 1|The Gathering #1}}

Fleeing from Magmatron, Razorbeast hooked up with the few Maximals he could immediately find: [[B'Boom]], [[Snarl (BW)|Snarl]], [[Optimus Minor]], [[Bonecrusher (BW)|Bonecrusher]], [[Ramulus]], and [[Wolfang (Maximal)|Wolfang]]. The Maximals were forced to wrestle Razorbeast to the ground and restrain him to get him under control as the Predacons handled Rartorata. Lio Convoy managed to break through the Angolmois-madness and bring Razorbeast back to his senses temporarily, but when [[Drancron]] and [[Elephorca]] arrived on the scene, Razorbeast broke free and turned his rage on the two [[Blendtrons]]. {{storylink|The Ascending issue 3|The Ascending #3}}

He managed to defeat Elephorca largely by himself, and the others managed to beat Drancron and Rartorata. With no new enemies to focus his rage on, Razorbeast began to lose control again. : K-9 transforms into a German Shepherd and features a missile launcher concealed in his tail. The missiles store in his robot abdomen. His beast-mode back also forms a riot shield.

: This toy is an extensive (if not complete) [[Retool|retooling]] of [[Wolfang (Maximal)|Wolfang]]. Almost all of his parts have been given new molding, often becoming larger, making him somewhat more massive than his predecessor. The only part of his body not changed is his robot head sculpt. K-9 was then used as the basis for a second retooling into the Beast Wars II toy [[BB|Max B]].

:Despite the cosmetic changes, K-9 essentially works exactly the same as Wolfang, with very little change to play value. He even retains the "mutant mask" gimmick (the mask was retooled, even if his head wasn't), even though by the time of his release, that feature had been dropped from new-mold toys. The only mechanical change is that his back shield's handle was simplified to make it easier to transform.

In reality, the breed was created by man selectively breeding dogs in [[Germany]] and the German Sheperd only appeared in [[1899]]. (Though his beast mode's depiction in the comic is a fairly poor representation of a Shepherd, so make of that what you will.)
