:Hot Spot is an Autobot Protectobot from the Generation 1 continuity family. He is also known as Hot Zone.

Hot Spot leads by example. Whether it's a raging battle or a raging fire, he's right in the thick of things—and that's where he's happiest. While many Autobots get into trouble by not thinking in combat, Hot Spot is a natural warrior who excels at fighting on instinct alone. His fellow Protectobots find his endless energy inspiring (though a bit exhausting), letting Hot Spot command even the most philosophically different of robots like Blades and First Aid as a tight and effective unit. He's a tough fighter to boot—strong, well-armed and well-armored.

Hot Spot can combine with his fellow Protectobots to form Defensor or God Guardian.
Afterwards, he was with the Protectobots when they saved some window-washers from a burning skyscraper, helping Groove extinguish the flames with liquid nitrogen. Later still, Hot Spot and the other Protectobots were ordered to help defend Autobot Headquarters from a Decepticon attack. By 2006, the Protectobots had risen to become a major presence in the Autobot army. When Unicron and Starscream enlisted Trypticon to move the Planet-Eater's head to Cybertron to make it his new body, though, Hot Spot and his team were ready with energon explosives to blast Unicron back out into space. Ghost in the Machine (episode)
One day, the Autobots were asked to help the Dutch authorities deal with French rebels. After dispersing the human aggressors, Hot Spot was concerned about how they could protect the human civilians from the Decepticons and cover First Aid, who was helping the downed Blades. Later, as it turned out the battle was only a diversion to allow Swindle to steal Metroplex's transformation cog, Hot Spot, Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus tried to reassure First Aid of his value to the Autobots when the pacifist medic failed to stop Swindle. Unfortunately, just as First Aid left, the Autobots were called upon to deal with a rampaging Trypticon. Hot Spot ordered the remaining Protectobots to combine into Defensor even without First Aid to save a train full of civilians. After successfully saving them, Hot Spot tracked down First Aid to a junk yard and convinced the latter of his value to the Autobots. The Ultimate Weapon
Later in 2006, the Protectobots arrived at the aftermath of the battle between the Technobots and Terrorcons at Mark Morgan's laboratory. They transported the injured Jessica Morgan to county general hospital and watched over her as the doctors restored her ability to walk with an exo-skeletal structure, enraging the robo-phobic senior Morgan. When Hot Spot tried to explain that they only wanted to help, Morgan shot back that they were only turning her into one of them. When the Stunticons went on a rampage, attacking a human baseball stadium, the Autobots' human friend Kenji radioed for help. Hot Spot and the other combiner warriors answered his summons. After Hot Spot extinguished the blaze caused by the Decepticon attack, he joined his fellow warriors in forming Defensor and Superion. The sides evened up with the arrival of Bruticus, however, and a critical blow to Defensor's chest damaged Hot Spot, forcing the Protectobots to disengage. Through sheer cunning, the other Protectobots managed to drive off the Decepticons, and Hot Spot survived long enough to receive the proper repairs. {{storylink|Fight! Later, the Decepticons tried to drive a rift between the humans and Autobots by using their ground-bound members to pose as crazed Autobot attackers. Hot Spot and Inferno arrived on the scene and used their water sprays to wash off the fake Autobot symbols, revealing the Decepticons underneath. Not beaten yet, Onslaught and Motormaster unleashed a combiner whirlwind attack, but Hot Spot and Inferno whipped their ladders around, sending the Decepticon sub-commanders flying straight into a double kick by Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. {{storylink|Fight! They were harshly rebuffed at Trypticon's gate, however, by the Combaticons and Stunticons. Superion was torn to shreds, and Hot Spot converted to repair bay mode in order to bring the fallen Aerialbots back on line. His teammates held the line, fending off Bruticus and Menasor while Hot Spot hurried to finish his work, and Blades snuck inside Trypticon to retrieve Dalton. In 2011, Galvatron attacked Cybertron looking to take control of Vector Sigma. Their mission was to stop the Decepticons from interfering with Hot Rod and the Headmasters, who were searching for the hidden location of the Matrix of Leadership. On a security sweep, the Protectobots ran across their old foes, the Combaticons, and went into battle. The two teams quickly assumed their combined forms as Bruticus and Defensor, as the fighting escalated. Birth of the Fantastic Double Prime

When Galvatron made another strike on Cybertron, this time to steal the super-metal Cybertonuron, Hot Spot and the Protectobots assembled before the space bridge on Earth to be transported into battle. Seeking out the Combaticons on the battlefield, the Protectobots soon formed Defensor and fought once more with Bruticus. Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 1 Defensor and Bruticus's battle continued as Defensor delivered a devastating smash to Bruticus's back. For at least part of the battle, the two teams disassembled again, as Hot Spot and Blades were seen firing upon the aerial Combaticons again. Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 2

Hot Spot and the Protectobots were dispatched to Peru with the Trainbots when a volcano erupted, leaving a mountainside village in dire peril. Their rescue mission was blocked by the Predacons. Hot Spot was ready to tear into the enemy, but Shouki insisted the Protectobots proceed on to the village to protect the innocent lives. Hot Spot relented, but the Protectobots nevertheless failed to reach the village. They were intercepted by the Decepticons' second wave, the Headmasters. Although they formed Defensor, the Protectobots were taken out of action by Mindwipe's paralysis ray, which was strong enough to leave them completely immobilized. The Dormant Volcano Mysteriously Erupts
Hot Spot and the Protectobots were part of a strike team that flew to the moon to disrupt Scorponok's gathering of Decepticons. They immediately formed Defensor upon entering the battle. Return of the Immortal Emperor When the planet Sandra sent out a distress call asking for energy, the Autobots of Earth responded. After the death of Ultra Magnus, the Autobots were desperately trying to pick up the slack during Sixshot's campaign of destruction around the globe. Following a lengthy period of inactivity, the Decepticons renewed their attacks on Earth. In Canberra, Australia, the Protectobots confronted Bruticus at one of Scorponok's new Death Towers. As Defensor, the Protectobots were beaten severely by Bruticus. The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 1) As part of Defensor, Hot Spot participated in the Autobots final battle with Scorponok's Decepticons at the North Pole. Hot Spot accompanied Optimus Prime and his fellow Protectobots to Energy Futures Industries, where they squared off against Megatron and the Combaticons to prevent them from stealing the hydrothermocline, a potentially limitless supply of energy. To prevent property damage and potential civilian casualties, the Autobots agreed to be uploaded into a virtual fantasy world in EFI's computer systems by Ethan Zachary, a human programmer on site. Similarly, the Decepticons agreed so that the hydrothermocline would remain intact. The game scenario was arranged so that the "death" of either Optimus or Megatron would end the game. Once inside "Multi-World", Hot Spot convinced Optimus Prime to remain behind while the Protectobots eliminated the potential threats. Hot Spot himself did battle with his opposite number, Onslaught, in the region known as the Slimepit. Despite the hindrance the bog caused, Hot Spot still held true to Autobot ideals and threw himself in harm's way to protect the virtual inhabitants of Multi-World. In turn, they carried him to safety away from Onslaught, giving him the advantage he needed to defeat the Combaticon. Upon learning that Ratbat had persuaded the Constructicons to join his Ultracons, Hot Spot led his team to the Tagan Heights to counter the threat of Devastator by using Defensor. Escalation Unfortunately the plan backfired and the battle between the two titans only increased the damage. Proving that five minds are better than one, the team divided and defeated Devastator with an overload of electricity. Devastation

Hot Spot was obsessed with overcoming the problem with their combined form. The team's analysis was interrupted by an attack by the Chaos Trinity, as Hot Spot was one of the Four Angles of Dissolution The Fallen needed to awaken Primus and draw Unicron to Cybertron. After the previous failure against Devastator, Hot Spot was unwilling to risk using Defensor again, and his team was defeated by the enhanced powers of Bludgeon and his allies, Mindwipe and Bugly. Confrontation (issue) Hot Spot was taken to a subterranean chamber, where energy from his and three others' Sparks served to unlock the seal of Primus. Grimlock, another of the Four, eventually freed himself and rescued Hot Spot in what might have been an embarrassing role reversal... if he'd been awake for it. Conflagration

During Shockwave's reign over Cybertron, he was sent to stop Menasor's rampage. Despite merging with his fellow Protectobots into Defensor, he was defeated even with the aid of the Omnibots. Passive Aggression
:Hot Spot transforms into a blue Mitsubishi Fuso Great fire engine. As a Scramble City-style combiner torso, he has a third mode as a "repair bay", somewhat remeniscent of Powermaster Optimus Prime's combat deck. In this form, he is equipped with waldo arms to "repair" other vehicles. Hot Spot can connect with Metroplex's city mode in this form as well. Another alternate mode allows him to function as an armored car carrier, by extending his legs in vehicle mode and attaching his guns and Defensor's chest plates; he has deck space to carry a single small vehicle in this form.

:Hot Spot's chest plate was initially made of painted die-cast metal. However, later runs replaced this with colored plastic and some paint application changes on his headlights. A plastic-chest yellow-eyed version (as opposed to the red eyes on the other releases) has been reported but not confirmed. Subsequent releases of him in the "Classics" line omitted the rub sign gimmick.
Notes
*Like Devastator's ever disappearing-and-reappearing visor, Hot Spot would occasionally switch between having a mouthplate or having a mouth drawn on his faceplate in his appearances on the original Transformers cartoon. The two most prominent instances of him having a mouth occur in "Ghost in the Machine" and "The Ultimate Weapon"—episodes that seem to have been animated by two different animation companies, suggesting that Hot Spot's mouth may have come from an alternate character model. Or, at least, a recurring artist mistake.
*Hot Spot was given an homage in the Armada line; Firebot (a crash-response truck) was redecoed in light blue with red-and-white warning stripes.
*Hot Spot's vehicle mode is rendered quite differently in both the animated and comic book from his toy. Whereas the Mitsubishi Fuso has four front wheels and two in the rear, the opposite is in effect in the other media.
*Despite having his own robot mode stock photography on the box of his Generations release, the instructions use the stock photograph of Inferno with Hot Spot's newly sculpted head photoshopped (and over-sized) over the top.
Hot Spot

Hot Spot, as part of Defensor, totally blew up Bruticus. They were repulsed, violently, by Unicron's internal defenses.
This had negative consequences. What a jerkface. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1
Superion was torn to shreds, and Hot Spot converted to repair bay mode in order to bring the fallen Aerialbots back on line. Their mission was to stop the Decepticons from interfering with Hot Rod and the Headmasters, who were searching for the hidden location of the Matrix of Leadership. On a security sweep, the Protectobots ran across their old foes, the Combaticons, and went into battle.
After the death of Ultra Magnus, the Autobots were desperately trying to pick up the slack during Sixshot's campaign of destruction around the globe. They caught up with the deserters at a used car lot run by Big Steve, but a four-way skirmish developed between Blaster, the Protectobots, the Combaticons, and the human-led robot hunters, RAAT. After the signing of the Crisis Intervention Accord, many of the special teams went into hiding or broke up to continue fighting on different factions. Hot Spot maintained the Protectobots, one of the late model specials teams, in secret. The group watched the battles rage around them, continuing to help when possible, intervening to uphold CIA where necessary, and trying to overcome the shortcomings of the combination process.

Nobody else did. Police Action: Part 1 He went on to aid in the search for the Decepticon forces hiding on Earth, but their lack of success and the fact that nobody really saw him as a leader got Bumblebee down. :Hot Spot transforms into a blue Mitsubishi Fuso Great fire engine.

Hot Spot was ready to tear into the enemy, but Shouki insisted the Protectobots proceed on to the village to protect the innocent lives. Hot Spot accompanied Optimus Prime and his fellow Protectobots to Energy Futures Industries, where they squared off against Megatron and the Combaticons to prevent them from stealing the hydrothermocline, a potentially limitless supply of energy.

:This mold was also used to make Fire Chief.
:Titanium Series Hot Zone (now lacking the "Autobot" prefix) is a redeco of the 6-inch 2001 Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime, an idea which thematically calls back to the unreleased OTFCC Universe Defensor, but otherwise doesn't resemble its deco. (Hot Zone is the super robot decoed like Hot Spot, while OTFCC Defensor's super robot was decoed like Defensor.) Like other Titanium Series toys, Hot Zone is partially constructed of die-cast metal. His vehicle mode has a ladder which rotates at its base, and two nozzles flip out of the end of the ladder.

He is armed with a non-removable arm cannon with a spring-loaded "water blast" projectile. As with Grappel, the bars on top of his shoulders have been enlarged so that they work with 3mm clips. The vehicle panels on Hot Spot's forearms can rotate 180° in order to get them more out of the way. This is a feature not documented in the instructions or shown in the image to the right, but it is shown in the package stock photography.
Rack'n'Ruin are two Transformers who were surgically combined in a desperate attempt to save their lives. Previously, they turned into "Cybertronian mini-jets", but the operation rendered this impossible. Members of the elite group of Autobot shock troops known as the Wreckers, Rack'n'Ruin employ an unusual style of melee combat. Ruin is the ugly one.
Generation 1
These characters
Rack'n'Ruin trained diligently with the other Wreckers in preparation for Operation: Volcano. While others doubted the mission after it was clear Ultra Magnus would likely not be able to participate, Rack'n'Ruin remained silent. But after some soul-searching, the other Wreckers decided to not give up on the mission, and Rack'n'Ruin were present when they resumed their training. Target: 2006

Following the aborted Operation: Volcano, the Wreckers leader Impactor was killed and rookie Springer took his place. Some time later, Rack'n'Ruin stood with the Wreckers in the new Autobase in Kalis when a nuclear reactor exploded and hordes of zombie Transformers began pouring out of Cybertron's lower levels. Rack'n'Ruin were captured and imprisoned with the other Wreckers and Emirate Xaaron in Flame's underground base. Legion of the Lost! The Wreckers all managed to escape their cell, and after Rack'n'Ruin helped their fellow Wreckers fight through armies of Flame's zombie hordes, their undead former leader, Impactor, sacrificed himself to save all of Cybertron. Rack'n'Ruin joined the others in remembering Impactor's two heroic deaths. Meltdown!

Soon the time-traveling Galvatron who wandered Earth had attracted the attention of the Wreckers. After Rack'n'Ruin and the others memorized the stats of their foe, they warped themselves down to Earth to face him... and right into the middle of a heavily populated Earth city. Though Springer worried that this had totally compromised their mission, as they didn't want to inflict any casualties on the innocent humans, the Wreckers nonetheless threw themselves at Galvatron. Rack'n'Ruin in particular were able to surprise their target, who underestimated the odd-looking pair, by putting an impressive wound dead-center in Galvatron's chest. Eventually, to stave off further collateral damage, the Wreckers called off their attack. Wrecking Havoc

However, this only delayed the inevitable. Galvatron's presence in the present day had started to unravel the space-time continuum. Rack'n'Ruin and the rest of the Wreckers reluctantly teamed up with the Decepticons' counterpart organization, the Mayhem Attack Squad, to counter Galvatron.

Quickly, Galvatron began depleting the Wreckers' ranks. When Sandstorm fell, Rack'n'Ruin implored Roadbuster to not fixate on revenge and stick to their job. They retreated into the Mayhem Attack Squad's transport long enough to retrieve an untested Pathblaster cannon. Although the cannon removed a sizable chunk from Galvatron's head, Rack'n'Ruin were unable to warn Roadbuster that the cannon was unstable, and their friend was engulfed in the subsequent explosion.

The increasingly warped Galvatron began tearing through the Wreckers with a renewed vigor. Rack'n'Ruin were "one" of the first to fall, destroyed by Galvatron's arm cannon. Time Wars

Regeneration One
noterg1
Rack 'n' Ruin were members of the Wreckers. In 2012, twenty-one years after the apparent end of the Great War and reoccupation of Cybertron, they joined Kup and the rest of the team in going AWOL to investigate the "loose ends" of the conflict on other planets such as Earth and Nebulos.

Unfortunately, on the team's very first stop, their ship was blown out of the sky by Megatron over a devastated Earth. Loose Ends, Part 1 They managed to get away in the escape pods but the crash landing damaged Broadside's neural circuits and Rack 'n' Ruin were forced to look after him while Leadfoot, Roadbuster and Sandstorm ran interference against Megatron's army of zombie "Ex-Bots" and Kup, Springer and Whirl made a break for the Goldstone Deep Space Network. Encountering a group of humans, Rack 'n' Ruin attempted to make contact but were warned off by Topspin and the sudden appearance of Circuit Smasher Loose Ends, Part 2 who promptly fried them. Thankfully the damage was not permanent and after some smooth talking by Topspin the Wreckers accompanied the humans back to Argus Base where they devised a plan to attack Megatron's base of operations: the Ark. Loose Ends, Part 3

Alongside Circuit Smasher, Roadbuster, Leadfoot, Broadside and the battlesuited humans Gordon Kent, Rob, Paula and Nel, Rack 'n' Ruin fought their way through autoguns and mines to reach the crashed spaceship whereupon it disgorged a great many Guardian units. Loose Ends, Part 4 Although the fighting was hard, they managed to buy Circuit Smasher enough time to deactivate Auntie, at which point the Guardians just "bit the dust". Loose Ends, Part 5

After returning to Cybertron, Natural Selection, Part 5 Rack'n'Ruin, along with the other Wreckers, acted as a security force for Hot Rod, who had been left in charge by Optimus Prime. When a group of Neo-Decepticons led by Fang tried to blockade the bridge Auto-artery RG1, Rack'n'Ruin stood by as Kup and Roadbuster argued over how to handle the rioters. A fight soon broke out when two unnamed Cybertronians attacked Fang. Destiny, Part 2 Some time later, Rack'n'Ruin accompanied the other Wreckers on a raid of the Neo-Decepticons' home base of Fort Scyk. However, the Decepticons' leader, Soundwave had anticipated the raid, and had evacuated the base after wiring it to blow up. Despite being caught in the explosion, all of the Wreckers survived. Destiny, Part 3

When Bludgeon launched an attack on Cybertron, the Wreckers were dispatched to destroy his base of operations, The Warlord. However, they failed to go unnoticed, and were attacked by Bludgeon. Although Rack'n'Ruin and the rest of the Wreckers fought bravely, trying to buy Kup time to destroy the ship, Bludgeon's mastery of Metallikato allowed him to wipe the floor with them. After Hot Rod, now transformed into Rodimus Prime, defeated Bludgeon, the Wreckers and Rack'n'Ruin proceeded to evacuate the exploding ship. Destiny, Part Five
When Jhiaxus took the majority of the Autobots' forces prisoner, the Wreckers were the only ones left to stand against the Cybertronians Rack'n'Ruin participated in the Wreckers' attack on Jhiaxus Hub Network, fighting of thousands of Cybertronians while also severing the ties between the planets in the Hub, fundamentally disabling it. After the rest of the Autobots escaped, Autobot and Wrecker alike evacuated the Hub as it exploded. The War to End All Wars, Part 4 Rack'n'Ruin returned to Cybertron to find it abandoned, save for a number of horrifying creatures. Rack'n'Ruin, along with the other Autobots, fought their way to Cybertron's only remaining Space Bridge. As Rodimus Prime departed to destroy the Dark Matrix entity controlling the creatures, Rack'n'Ruin accompanied then Wreckers to Earth to once again silicate the humans' help. After recruiting the humans, then Wreckers proceed to Nebulos, where they stopped a possessed Fortress Maximus from killing Ultra Magnus. After Rodimus Prime sealed off their universe from the multiverse, and from Primus himself to defeat the Matrix entity, all surviving Cybertronians were rendered mortal, including Rack'n'Ruin, who eventually died of old age. The War to End All Wars, Part 5
After the transition from Sentinel Prime to Zeta Prime, Rack and Ruin were Decepticons responsible for the explosion at the G'th Semane spaceport, a relatively minor act with no fatalities. Unfortunately, they got caught. Orion Pax was tasked with the escort of Rack and Ruin in a prisoner exchange for Chief Medical Officer Ratchet who had been captured by the Decepticons. During an attack by Slicers in the Rust Spot, the twins avoided a chance to escape. Instead, they told Orion Pax how they were grunts that were nothing special, they weren't even that close to each other, repulsed at the thought of being combined to one another. They went on to explain that they do not have alternate modes due to their transformation cogs being overworked because of a process called instantaneous conversion.

Rack and Ruin begged Orion Pax not to hand them over to Megatron because they would be killed for their failure. Orion Pax motioned them to get back into the trailer, at which point Thundercracker arrived and took them to see Bludgeon. While the Autobots fought Bludgeon and his Decepticons, Rack and Ruin escaped the trailer and helped escort the Autobots to safety. Omega's Conundrum

Their ties with the Decepticons severed, Rack and Ruin joined the Autobots. While Rack was still his own dude, he joined up with the Wreckers, and was present when their 11th iteration battled Black Shadow and suffered three casualties. Rules of Disengagement Some time after joining the Wreckers, Rack 'n' Ruin confessed to Impactor about their "tragic" prognosis, indicating some lingering medical problem. Bullets

Rack 'n' Ruin were part of the Wreckers when they had their final battle on Pova against their longtime rivals, the Decepticon attack squad known as Squadron X. According to official paperwork, Rack 'n' Ruin were pinned in the trenches along with the other flightless Wreckers, but a desperate gambit by leader Impactor and his second-in-command Springer turned the tide. However, after Squadron X was rounded up and put in inhibitor harnesses, they somehow escaped. Impactor ordered Squadron X put down for good, and after one last legendary battle, Rack 'n' Ruin stood with the Wreckers above the bodies of their late enemies. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 4

The reality of the conflict was much uglier than the story that was released to the public. After Impactor turned the tide by shooting through an unwilling Springer, Squadron X was rounded up and put in inhibitor harnesses. However, once Prowl learned the Wreckers were on Pova, he ordered Squadron X's release, as a neutrality agreement forbade the Autobots from bringing their war onto Povian soil. Rack 'n' Ruin turned a blind eye when the obsessed Impactor executed Squadron X. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 5

Though Rack 'n' Ruin and the other Wreckers felt Impactor had done the right thing, they didn't want to be thrown into Garrus-9 alongside him. To make sure Springer wouldn't think of them as accomplices and testify against them, they all agreed to lie to him that they were against the murders and asked him to be their new leader.

By this point, Rack 'n' Ruin's health was, apparently, deteriorating. Zero Point

Rack 'n' Ruin died some time afterward, presumably before the resurrection of Thunderwing. The impact this has on Wrecker fatality stats depends on whether RnR count as one or two Transformers. Dead Men's Boots

The Wreckers fanboy/historian Ironfist insisted their name should always be treated as a plural noun. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 4

Games
Transformers Legends
Early in the war, Rack'n'Ruin were Decepticons. After being captured by the Autobots, they were escorted through the rust spot towards a prisoner exchange. Despite encountering Slicers en-route, the group met up with Bludgeon on the agreed upon location for the exchange. Orion's Gambit

Rack'n'Ruin were members of the fearless Wreckers squad which liberated Garrus-9 from the grip of Dreadwind and the Air Strike Patrol, though they destroyed most of the facility in the process. The Wreckers

Notes
*In their first appearance during "Target: 2006", they are referred to as "Rack and Ruin" but subsequent appearances pep this up to Rack'n'Ruin. Their name was parsed in Last Stand of the Wreckers #4 and Regeneration One as "Rack 'n' Ruin". Oy!
*Their "origin" and their original alt-modes were given in "Transformers: The Facts", a booklet that came with UK issue #200.
*According to the Transformers: Mosaic story "Dead Men's Boots", Rack 'n' Ruin were killed at some point during IDW continuity. This was made canon when the Mosaic was included in the Last Stand of the Wreckers TPB without the typical Mosaic disclaimer.
*Until "Rules of Disengagement", neither Rack nor Ruin had appeared without the other. This solo appearance for Rack (identified in the script) was the first time either had been individually referred to by name. For the record, Rack is the one with the anvil.
*Rack'n'Ruin is, as of yet, the only Wrecker to appear in more than one G1 continuity and end up dead in all of them.
