:''Dogfight is an [[Autobot]] [[Triggerbot]] from the [[Generation 1 continuity family]].''

[[Image:Dogfight-boxart.jpg|right|277px|thumb|Lock S-foils in attack position!]]
'''Dogfight''' is tough, unflinching, and extremely aggressive. He is a skilled air warrior, and with grim humor will refer to a hard-fought aerial combat as a "dance of doom". Despite [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]'s teaching of [[mechano-meditation]], Dogfight remains violent-tempered and easily provoked. He is extremely protective of his personal airspace and will readily attack any who approach him with unclear intentions.

Dogfight's short temper is not all there is to him, however, nor is he a purely ruthless fighter like [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]]. He does value life; he does value friendship. He knows from sad experience that the merest indecision on a warrior's part may bring defeat in battle, perhaps permanently. Worse, it may mean deactivation or damage to friends, or to non-combatant bystanders. At the same time, he knows that rashness may bring the same result. So, while his quick temper does control him at times, at others he uses it to motivate him, and in the midst of rushing madly upon an enemy he will do his level best to preserve a fragment of his wits, and to fight with lethal skill as well as fury. He is a dangerous opponent.

Besides his temper, his greatest weakness is his great flying skill. Like [[Powerglide (G1)|Powerglide]], he is an aerial acrobat who can often outmaneuver a larger foe or one with heavier weapons or stronger armor; even one who is faster in level flight. Such airborne acrobatics earned him his name, but can also earn him a mid-air stall, and a potentially fatal fall. So far, he has managed to recover from these.
===Marvel Comics continuity===
====Generation 1====
[[Image:Optimusprimeg1preearthmarvel2.jpg|left|thumb|300px|A Grumman X-29 before humans even evolved!]]
When [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]] was still a junior commanding officer, he led Dogfight and the other [[Triggerbot]]s on a quest to acquire the knowledge and power of the [[Underbase]]. During this quest, Dogfight became the latest in a long series of flying characters inexplicably undone by a hole in the ground. {{storylink|The Flames of Boltax!}}

Some millions of years later, Dogfight was being held prisoner by the Decepticons along with the rest of the Triggerbots and Sparkabots. {{storylink|Ca$h and Car-nage!}} {{storylink|Race with the Devil}} Eventually getting free, he became involved with the Matrix Quest with his fellow Triggerbots. On the planet [[Cheyne]], Dogfight intervened when a group of armed riders were seen chasing down a helpless child. The Triggerbots easily outgunned the riders and drove them off. [[Hud]], the boy's father, invited the Autobots to come into his home and freshen up before heading out. Despite the urgency of their mission, Dogfight and the others agreed. As the night wore on, the Triggerbots learned from Hud about how he and his family had been chased off their last homeworld by a political upheaval, and came to Cheyne to settle and build a simple farming life. The riders represented a land development interest who wanted to buy out their farm, and weren't willing to take "No" for an answer. Despite having a vague recollection of somewhere they needed to be, the Triggerbots allowed themselves to be convinced to stay the night and, the next morning, to help work the fields.

[[Image:KingsofWildFrontier-Dogfight.jpg|right|thumb|150px|Guy Smiley had to find work where he could.]]

When Hud needed to go into town for supplies, Dogfight quickly volunteered to go along with him as protection. While there, he was confronted by a hostile group of robots, demanding to know about something called "the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]]". Dogfight at first ignored their confusing words, and began firing upon them to protect his friend. Still, these new robots seemed strangely familiar, like something nagging at the back of his central processor. Lost in his own confusion, Dogfight was tossed aside by the robots once they realized he knew nothing of their prize. With Hud having run away in the scuffle, Dogfight was found by the riders who had confronted him earlier. As his mind began to clear, they explained that Hud's family weren't all that they pretended to be. Dogfight realized that Hud had been manipulating his mind and molding his behavior to suit the family's needs. They had pierced his outer gruff nature by toying with his deep inner desire for a peaceful life and an end to the fighting.

Feeling violated, and having regained enough composure to confront his "hosts", Dogfight returned to the farm and forced Hud to reveal his true, hideous form. It seems the family were [[Vrobian]]s, psychic vampires growing fat by feeding off of the tasty Matrix-energy found in the Autobots' sparks. Dogfight was forced to defend himself against Hud, and the alien was killed in a blaster explosion. [[Backstreet (G1)|Backstreet]] and [[Override (G1)|Override]] similarly had to...deal with the rest of the family, for their own survival. The Triggerbots were left feeling empty inside, and no closer to finding the Matrix than they had been when they started. {{storylink|Kings of the Wild Frontier.}}

In 2013, (Transformers: Regeneration One #94) Dogfight tried to defend Cybertron against Bludgeon's Warworld.
{{TransformersComicMagazin}}
Dogfight was present when the Decepticons unleashed a robotic hell-beast known as 'King Con' on New York; however Optimus Prime rented a helicopter to fly a banner announcing huge raw oil deposit finds in the Rocky Mountains. After a short hesitation, the Decepticons retreated to pursue these findings. {{storylink|Transformers Comic-Magazin issue 7|Transformers — Transforming Robots in Action: New York — A City Sinking in Terror}}

===Dreamwave comics continuity===
In the [[Age of Internment]], Dogfight was one of the few Autobots left free on Cybertron. He served under [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] and [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]]'s command as they simultaneously tried to track down the missing Optimus Prime and find a way to eliminate [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]'s cloned [[Air Warrior|Aerospace Extermination Squadron]]. {{storylink|The Age of Wrath Pt.2}}
[[Image:Stormbringer2 Dogfight Optimus.jpg|left|180px|thumb|My mouth keeps hanging open, Prime!]]
Dogfight was called upon to crew Optimus Prime's mission to Cybertron on board the ''[[Ark-27]]'', and he was just so gosh-darn grateful for the opportunity. {{storylink|Stormbringer issue 2|Stormbringer #2}} It was like a dream come true for him. He later assisted Prime in the battle against [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]] by reprogramming [[Centurion droid]]s to blow the [[frag]] out the crazed Pretender. Surprisingly, he did not tragically die in the mission that followed.

His next dream is for Optimus to actually remember his name.

Dream the impossible dream, Dogfight. Dream the impossible dream. {{storylink|Stormbringer issue 4|Stormbringer #4}}

Unfortunately, when they next met, Optimus Prime was too busy talking to [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] as the crew of the ''Ark-27'' were hauling him out of a comet. {{storylink|Spotlight: Optimus Prime}} He was present on the [[Autobot Orbital Command Hub]] when [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] announced his return to the airwaves, and was one of the trusted Autobots [[Silverbolt (G1)|Silverbolt]] choose to help him apprehend the mind-controlled [[Beachcomber (G1)|Beachcomber]], who was programmed by [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] to kill Blaster. {{storylink|Spotlight: Blaster}} After the [[Surge (event)|Surge]], Dogfight was in a skirmish with the [[Decepticon Justice Division]]. He received minor wounds on his shoulders and rushed to [[Delphi]] to get his team medical assistance. As soon as he stormed into the medical ward, [[First Aid (G1)|First Aid]] took special interest in Dogfight's two Autobot symbols. {{storylink|Bullets}}

Dogfight later joined the crew of the ''[[Lost Light]]'', as one of the survivors rescued from a recent plague on Delphi. He was among those shot down by [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] when he went on a rampage and began firing on Autobots with color schemes similar to [[Overlord (Masterforce)|Overlord]]'s, but survived and received medical attention. {{storylink|Interiors}}
Some warriors, even the most seasoned veterans, have been known to collapse under pressure. '''Doubleheader''', however, has developed a unique solution to that particular dilemma: divvy up the duties with a second noggin. His right head sees, smells and overall analyzes his surroundings, while his left head listens, speaks and makes all the decisions. By dividing his workload between two separate heads, Doubleheader always remains cool and collected in the tightest situations.
Doubleheader was stationed on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], working out of [[Autobase]] under [[Xaaron|Emirate Xaaron's]] command. He oversaw the repairs to the trans-dimensional portal which had been damaged when the [[Mayhem Attack Squad]] ambushed [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee's]] Pretenders at their headquarters. {{storylink|The Primal Scream|Primal Scream}}

''Later, Doubleheader was working with [[Pincher]] and [[Longtooth]] in a raid on a Decepticon prison camp. They were recalled back to Autobase, where Xaaron explained their latest mission—a search for the long-lost [[Matrix of Leadership|Creation Matrix]].'' {{storylink|Whose Lifeforce Is It Anyway?}}

Doubleheader accompanied Pincher and Longtooth on the [[Matrix Quest]], which took them to a harbor on [[Gottlieb]]. Hearing about the supposedly miraculous resurrection of the last of a race of whale-like creatures known as the [[Klud]], Doubleheader (and Doubleheader) believed it could be a sign of the Matrix's life-giving properties at work. During the search, however, the Klud crippled Longtooth, which drove him into a killing-frenzy to find the beast and exact his evenge on it. Pincher and Doubleheader chased after their deranged comrade, but were intercepted by a new group of Mayhems, who were trying to get to the Matrix before them. Doubleheader held off the Decepticon flyers—[[Needlenose]] and [[Spinister (G1)|Spinister]]—while Pincher attempted to reason with Longtooth. After determining the Matrix itself was long gone, the Mayhems pulled out, and Longtooth ultimately left the Klud alive. {{storylink|Deadly Obsession}}
'''It's a knock-down, drag-out slugfest for the ages as Ultra Magnus and Galvatron square off in the midst of Bludgeon's attack on Cybertron!'''

==Synopsis==

[[Galvatron II|Galvatron]] descends through the skies over [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] like a comet, streaking straight toward [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]]. A momentary sense of ''déjà vu'' causes Magnus to hesitate, and Galvatron rockets into him, toppling both of them off a bridge, through a building and into the traffic below. Galvatron boasts of having slain Magnus before, causing Magnus to suspect he is insane—but regardless of his foe's mental stability, his strength is self-evident, and Magnus's reputation as "Cybertron's greatest warrior" is set to take a beating at the future Decepticon's hands!

Deep beneath Cybertron's surface, in [[Primus]]'s chamber, the Tranformers' creator-god communicates with [[Hot Rod (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Hot Rod]] through [[Grimlock (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Grimlock]]'s body, explaining that he [[multiversal singularity|exists across all space and time]], and thus did not perish during the battle with [[Unicron]] as his children believed. Primus informs Hot Rod that he is "Prime", and that in order to fulfil that destiny, he must come to understand a "disease" eating away at reality. Primus casts Hot Rod through a portal to the mysterious realm of [[Zero Space]], before departing Grimlock's body, leaving the onlooking [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] with no memory of what has happened.

As Ultra Magnus and Galvatron grapple, the Autobot commander hurls his foe off him by firing one of his shoulder-rockets into him at point-blank range, hurling him off the overpass they are fighting on. [[Blades (G1)|Blades]] then appears, having been sent to find Magnus when he failed to respond to the call to arms against the Decepticons' ''[[Warworld]]'', which floats overhead. The ''Warworld'' disgorges a swarm of [[Blitz Engine]]s, which begin tearing through the Autobots that attempt to stop them, but when Magnus transforms to roll out so that he can join the fight, Galvatron bursts from the rubble and lands atop the vehicle-mode Autobot.

At the Autobots' command center in the [[Presidium]], [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]], [[Kup (G1)|Kup]] and [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] try to co-ordinate a counterattack against the Blitz Engines. Kup insists that he and the [[Wrecker]]s be allowed to take the field, but Prowl refuses, insisting that the commando squad needs to be applied strategically, only he does not yet know ''where''. Perceptor, at least, has an idea: his scans have revealed that the Blitz Engines are not self-sustaining, and are, in fact, being powered by [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]] energy from a remote source. This source has to be aboard the ''Warworld'', and that is where the Wreckers will strike.

Ultra Magnus barrels down the highway with Galvatron atop him, angrily declaring that he has no time for the Decepticon with the greater threat of the ''Warworld'' and its forces hanging over them. Galvatron insists that he will destroy the other Decepticons once he is done with Magnus, but Magnus is above caring—he blasts the road bridge ahead, and slams on his breaks, screeching to a halt at the bridge's broken edge, momentum hurling Galvatron's forward. But as he falls, Galvatron manages to grab Magnus's bumper, and drags him over the edge with him.

Up above, aboard the ''Warworld'', [[Krok (G1)|Krok]] advocates the use of the vessel's own weapons, and although [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]] is opposed to devastating the world he wishes to rule, he agrees that a single, symbolic strike is a good idea, selecting the fallen Magnus and Galvatron as his target. The resultant blast is miles in diameter, wiping out whole city blocks... but the Autobots have some "big guns" of their own to roll out in retaliation, as Prowl activates [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] to take on the Blitz Engines! However, Bludgeon has anticipated Omega's involvement, and [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] is on hand to order [[Monstructor (G1)|Monstructor]] into the fray to take on the giant Autobot. Soundwave is about to withdraw before the titanic conflict kicks off, but finds his way barred by [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]]!

Fire sweeps the Cybertronian landscape, the ''Warworld''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s blast having set it ablaze. For long moments, the inferno rages unabated... until at last, a victor emerges from the conflagration...

...and it is Ultra Magnus, who has decided it's time to start living up to his own hype!
==Quotes==
"Blades! About time! Did nobody notice me fighting for my life here?"<br>
"Uh....no."

:-'''Ultra Magnus''' and '''Blades'''

"Just like Bludgeon said..."<br>
"Indeed, Wingthing. Every move the Autobots have made, he has anticipated...and countered. '''Monstructor''', terminate Omega Supreme- with extreme prejudice!"<br>
"Hold up, Soundwave- this is one party you ''ain't'' leavin'..least not 'til the fat lady sings!"

:- '''Wingthing''' and '''Soundwave''', the latter of whom is caught monologuing by '''Blaster'''.
==Notes==
===Continuity notes===
*In Simon Furman's original Marvel UK stories, Galvatron and Ultra Magnus had a running rivalry that never got the chance to be fully resolved. In a spiritual sense, this story serves as that resolution, even though a) the Marvel UK stories aren't part of ''Regeneration One'' continuity (as made clear by Magnus's comments in this issue that he's never met Galvatron), and b) even if they were, this is a different Galvatron from another timeline and not the one who fought Magnus. However! See "Transformers references", below.
*[[Zero Space]] has been lurking on the fringes of the ''Regeneration One'' storyline since the very beginning, with [[Counterpoint|issue #80.5]].
*Little-seen [[Action Master]] character [[Krok (G1)|Krok]] puts in another brief appearance serving as confidant and adviser to Bludgeon, as he did in the last few issues of the original Marvel series.
*Prowl swears by [[Straxus (G1)|Straxus]] and his [[smelting pool]]s, artifacts of Marvel continuity from back in issues [[The Smelting Pool!|#17]] and [[The Bridge to Nowhere!|#18]].
*Omega Supreme's got his reputation back as a world-shakingly powerful tool of destruction, as he was back in his debut in [[Command Performances!|issue #19]]; this rep took a [[Buzzsaw (G1)|bit of a beating]] as the original series rolled on.

===Transformers references===

*This issue is full of subverted homages to Galvatron and Magnus's classic blow-out brawl from the eighth chapter of ''[[Target: 2006]]''. As in the original story, Galvatron clings to the roof of Magnus's vehicle mode, and Magnus screeches to a halt to throw him off a broken overpass... except where Galvatron was sent flying in the original story, here, he seizes Magnus's bumper on the way down and drags him with him. Then, at the issue's climax, both combatants are consumed in a fireball, but where ''Target: 2006'' saw Galvatron emerge triumphant, here, Magnus is the victor, appearing through the flames in a direct full-page, three-panel homage to the same page of the ''Target: 2006''.
*The idea that Primus [[multiversal singularity|exists simultaneously across all of time and space]] has been knocking around for a while, and is here used as an explanation for his continued existence after his apparent death in [[On the Edge of Extinction!|issue #75]]—which was something most fans had [[fanon|taken as read]] for a while, too.
*Galvatron threatens to "crush the life from [Magnus] with [his] cold bare hands!", an extended paraphrasing of Megatron/Galvatron's famous line from ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'': "I will crush you with my bare hands!"
*Ultra Magnus swears by the "Great God Ginrai", the story repurposing the ''[[Transformers: Super-God Masterforce (franchise)|Super-God Masterforce]]'' character's name as that of some kind of deity (since we assume he's not swearing by a [[Ginrai|teenage human truck driver]]).
*Omega Supreme going up against Monstructor seems to be a reference to the characters' history together over the in the mainstream [[IDW Generation 1 continuity|IDW continuity]], as established in Furman's own ''[[Spotlight: Optimus Prime]]'' (and later in more detail in [[Primus: All Good Things|the 2012 ''Robots in Disguise'' annual]]).

===Real world-references===

*When Windbreaker is killed by a Blitz Engine, his death is accompanied by the sound effect "PARP". That's... a-heh... that's a bit of British onomatopoeia for farting. 'cause, well... y'know. ''Windbreaker''. <small>(giggle)</small>

===Errors===

*Despite being shown making it to safety under Primus's visage in the last issue, along with the other Dinobots and Hot Rod, Snarl is nowhere to be seen in this issue. (Another [[The Transformers: The Movie|TFTM]] homage, maybe?)
