Once Meltdown was trapped and unable to hurt him, he demonstrated he'd learned to transform and joined his fellow Dinobots in threatening the acid-thrower. When his friend Grimlock had a large spike in his toe, he went on a rampage, which he tried to prevent, but to no avail. Prowl managed to reluctantly use [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]]´s [[Electromagnetic pulse|EMP]] Blaster (which he was borrowing) before anything was damaged. It was revealed that the Dinobots worked for her due to her feminine ways. Grimlock fought and beat both Swoop and Snarl to prove that he loved Blackarachnia most. Blackarachnia then used her mimic ability to steal Grimlock's [[Fire-breath|fire-breathing]] power and proceeded to incinerate Swoop and Snarl. Despite this, they still worked for her later, as they helped both Optimus and Grimlock by defeating [[Fusion creature|Meltdown's mutants]] once again. Swoop later found the female spider, who asked him to deliver the fugitive [[Wasp]] for her. Later still, a huge row between him and Grimlock over a TV program saw Swoop booted out of the Dinobots. On his way to join the Autobots, he buzzed past a [[United States Military|USAF]] plane and so got a bollocking from Prime when he landed, causing him to leave in a huff. However, soon the Autobots needed aerial assistance to stop a rogue stealth bomber, and Bumblebee convinced Swoop to help by <strike>reminding him that he owed them for the Rage virus thing</strike> appealing to his <strike>sense of team spirit</strike> ego. He successfully stopped the bomber, saving Detroit and proving to the Autobots that he was awesome.

Scrapper decided to make the Dinobot his pet and gave him his name (he was tempted to name him "Slag", but Snarl took it as an insult). Grimlock and Swoop did not take this very well and branded Snarl as a traitor. [[Sari Sumdac]] later found the two and convinced them to help save her Autobot allies from [[Soundwave (Animated)|Soundwave]] and also found some unexpected help from [[Wreck-Gar (Animated)|Wreck-Gar]]. These "[[substitute Autobot]]s" soon found Soundwave and the other Autobots, the latter of whom had been reprogrammed. The battle did not go so well for them, but thanks to some strategic thinking from Sari, they were able to defeat Soundwave and return the Autobots back to normal. Unlike promotional stock photos, his club and dinosaur forehead are unpainted, though in the latter case this is actually more accurate to the animation model. The promotional photos also showed his front horn assembled upside down, but it's turned the right way around on the final toy. While there are pegs intended to keep his waist together, they do not click, and so the legs are quite loose. The toy features orange [[light-piping]] engineered into the head, but the gimmick is disabled by the eyes being painted blue.

'''Grimlock''' is a ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' in charge of a small, three-mech group of dinosaur transformers known as the [[Dinobot (Animated)|Dinobots]]. Born from a fusion of Earth and Cybertronian technology, with some [[AllSpark]] intervention thrown in, he's a force to be reckoned with. A little short on brains (at first he didn't actually realise he was a Transformer) and a lot short on temper, Grimlock's answer to a problem is usually the simplest: squash it, slash it, bite it, burn it, or eat it.

Physically, Grimlock is one of the most powerful Transformers, with enough brute strength to give even the likes of Megatron pause for thought. In his beast mode, his powerful jaws and flame breath give him excellent short- and long-range combat abilities, while his flaming sword is an effective weapon in robot mode. Factor in his temper, and facing Grimlock can be a terrifying experience.

After their defeat, they were imprisoned in an energy cage and were scheduled for meltdown. Believing they had life and were not just some mindless machines, [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]] freed the Dinobots with the help of Bulkhead and secretly relocated them to an island.

nature stupid, Grimlock expected the two birds to fight like Dinobots, but they escaped! Tail twitching and stomach opening, Grimlock [[Transformation|transformed]], shocking Snarl and Swoop. He drew a [[Sword|huge, blazing sword]] and decided he liked the results. {{storylink|Blast from the Past}}

He was later forced by the villain [[Meltdown (Animated)|Meltdown]] to attack Sari's would-be rescuers, Prowl and Bulkhead. Once Meltdown was trapped and unable to hurt him, he demonstrated he'd learned to transform and joined his fellow Dinobots in threatening the acid-thrower. However, before Meltdown could be hurt, Grimlock's attention was diverted to [[Colossus Rhodes]] and two of Meltdown's mutants, and he and the other Dinobots beat up on them instead. {{storylink|Survival of the Fittest}}

Shortly after this, the Autobots learned that the [[Decepticon|Decepticons]] were mobilizing, and Bulkhead spilled the beans on the Dinobots' location. Seriously pissed, [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Prime]] had them take him to [[Dinobot Island (Animated)|Dinobot Island]], where he tried to convince the Dinobots to help them fight the Decepticons. Grimlock was...uninterested, to say the least. He told Prime that Dinobots didn't need robots to fight, but that they would destroy robots. When Prime pointed out that the Dinobots ''were'' robots, this seemed to compel them to fight each other. When Optimus brought [[Ultra Magnus (Animated)|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|Sentinel]] to see [[Teletran-1|his damaged ship]], which had crashed into Dinobot Island as a result of [[Megatron Rising - Part 2|a recent Decepticon attack]], the Dinobots showed up. Optimus advised the [[Cybertron Elite Guard|Elite Guardsbots]] that as long as the Dinobots weren't provoked, they wouldn't attack. Sentinel thought they were just primitive scrap heaps and acted like it. Grimlock responded by transforming, taking out his sword and knocking the jerk flying. Later, reports reached the Autobots of rampages on Dinobot Island, and Optimus sent Prowl and Bulkhead, the only two Autobots the Dinobots accepted, to investigate. Prowl's disbelief at the idea that the territorial but relatively peaceful Dinobots would be going on rampages was quickly dispelled when a furious Grimlock burst from the bushes and charged. He easily thrashed the two Autobots, and in his rage would have roasted a nest full of baby birds if Prowl hadn't used [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]]'s loaned [[EMP]] generator to drop the massive beast. But a blast that would have knocked out an Autobot for a while merely dropped Grimlock for a moment, and a few seconds later, he began to wake up. Upon examination, it was revealed that Grimlock had a large piece of metal embedded in his foot, and the pain had driven him mad. Prowl used the EMP generator to loosen the shard while Bulkhead yanked it out, and an exhausted Grimlock collapsed and allowed the Autobots to fix him up. {{storylink|A Fistful of Energon}}

After Blackarachnia discovered Meltdown's genetic research, she had the Dinobots take Meltdown from prison. When the Autobots arrived to investigate, Prowl and [[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]] were poisoned with venom, and Grimlock accompanied Optimus Prime to the mainland to help him find the [[Genetic modifier|genetic thingy]] that Meltdown needed.

When the two Autobots returned to the island, Meltdown turned the tables on them, planning to remove Blackarachnia's technological half and leave him with an organic Transformer. To delay Grimlock and Prime, Meltdown sicced [[Fusion creature|his experiments]] on them. Grimlock nearly burned down half the forest while fighting "bad bat", but the other Dinobots arrived and helped them defeat the monsters while Prime put out the fire. After Prime defeated Meltdown, Blackarachnia urged him to hold her, causing Grimlock to attack Prime in jealousy. However, it was a trick to allow Blackarachnia time to escape, as Prime had predicted. Sentinel tells the Jet twins to create a diversion to get the Dinobots away from the enterance so he can sneak into Blackarachnia's lab. After expressing his misgivings about stealing oil, Bulkhead took the two Constructobots to the old auto factory to meet the other Autobots. Mixmaster and Scrapper proved too rough around the edges even for [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet's]] tastes, and their cavorting woke up [[Sari Sumdac|Sari]]. Mixmaster didn't think much of their stickshift-in-the-mud leader, [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]], who asked Bulkhead why he was bringing "strangers" to their base (thus proving to be none too observant in the search for AllSpark fragments himself). After a game of flattened-oil-barrel Frisbee severed Sari's pigtails, Mix found himself and Scrapper kicked out the factory by Prime.

Dejected, Mixmaster and Scrapper happened upon [[Blitzwing (Animated)|Blitzwing]] and [[Lugnut (Animated)|Lugnut]] stealing construction supplies...very ineffectively. Once again, they intervened just before someone could get hurt, saving Blitzwing from getting creamed by the load he was carrying. Mixmaster then heard approaching police sirens, which Blitzwing told them was a quitting time signal, meaning they could go home. Mix and Scrapper indicated they didn't have a home, so their two new buddies offered to let the Constructobots come home with them, saying Mix and Scrapper would be welcome to stay as long as they hauled the heavy trailers of supplies. As Mixmaster obligingly pushed the supply containers uphill and out of earshot, he didn't hear Blitzwing ease Lugnut's concerns about [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]]'s disapproval by assuring that he'd take take the two new bots offline once the heavy lifting was done. After the load was hauled, Mixmaster was all set for a reward, unaware Lugnut was about to use [[Punch of Kill Everything|his signature punch]] upon him and Scrapper, when Megatron intervened. Mixmaster followed Megatron into the Decepticons' inner sanctum, where he saw the [[space bridge]] schematics. He and Scrapper immediately knew exactly what supplies would be needed to complete the bridge, as well as where they could be obtained.

The next day, Mixmaster and Scrapper "acquired" (stole) a load of construction materials and were fleeing pursuit by [[Sumdac Systems]] police robots when they ran into Bulkhead again. Stopping the chase, Bulkhead asked them what they were doing, and the Constructobots, being trusting souls, ''told'' him. Mixmaster couldn't figure out why Bulky was so upset they were working for the Decepticons until he said Megatron was trying to put one over on them. Mix and Scrapper weren't about to stand still for ''that'', and they sped off to settle the score. Their initial complaints didn't go over well, as the Decepticon leader proved far less gentle and jovial, slamming them up against the mountainside near the mine. When Mixmaster said ''why'' they were angry, though, Megatron turned on the sweet talk again, spinning a tale of Autobot oppression. This proved a bit high-concept for Mixmaster, but then Megatron offered to explain it over a few barrels of oil. This was far more Mix and Scrapper's speed, and soon they were guzzling away while Megatron once again pitched the space bridge project.

Showing up at the auto factory, Mixmaster revealed that they were now working for Megatron. Much like real construction workers, they went to the highest bidder, and Megatron had better oil. Showing there were no hard feelings, they said they weren't about to hurt the Autobots, just come pick up the AllSpark fragments and be on their way. Optimus Prime objected, but Mixmaster called him a dipstick and knocked over the 98-ton-weakling. A fight broke out, and Mixmaster went so far as to ransom [[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]] for the fragments. However, once Bulkhead handed over the fragments, Mixmaster had no trouble accepting Bulky's offer to have "one for the road." Of course, he didn't know Bulkhead had secretly slipped him and Scrapper some tainted oil, contaminated by the expired fixative that Bulkhead had saved. As Mixmaster and Scrapper ran off, the bad oil reacted explosively, knocking them out so the Autobots could reclaim the fragments. The blast also scrambled their memories, so when Mixmaster came to, he didn't know who the big, angry guy was or why he was ranting about someone named Megatron and flinging his wrecking ball at them. Confused and frightened, Mixmaster decided to vamoose. {{storylink|Rise of the Constructicons}}

Continuing to function, Mix and Scrapper continued to wander around guzzling fuel, gaining the attention of the Autobots, Decepticons and police; all the while, Mix kept trying to remember where they'd found the "really good oil" last time. Finding a trail of Bumblebee's leaking lubricant, Mix followed it back to Autobot base and quickly burned the door down in order to find any oil in there. He soon came across [[Sari Sumdac|a small fleshy thing]] but when he asked it if it knew where there was any oil, it unleashed a sonic attack to overload their audio sensors.

While Scrapper was scared and wanted to leave, fearing this creature was what had caused their memory loss, Mix was determined to find oil and told his friend to "grow a backhoe". However, their search continuously drew them into conflict with the strange creature; Mix became angry enough to threaten it with violence, ignore all of Scrapper's warnings and then be drawn into a really blatant trap. A severe beating by the factory assembly line finally convinced him that Scrapper was right, no oil was worth this, and the two fled the base.

Luckily [[Blitzwing (Animated)|a nice German guy]] turned up with some barrels of that really good oil, and the Constructicons followed him home. Good thing that small fleshy thing drove them off, or they'd never have met this guy and gone off with him! {{storylink|Sari, No One's Home}}

Under the watchful eye of Megatron, Mixmaster and his buddy Scrapper helped the Decepticons finish their space bridge and were rewarded with being [[Branding|branded]] as Decepticons themselves. Later, Mixmaster encountered Bulkhead, but due to the memory wipe from the spiked oil he and Scrapper drank, neither of them recognized him. Mixmaster proved his worth as a Decepticon warrior after using his quick-drying cement to anchor Prowl and Optimus Prime to the ground when the Autobots invaded the Decepticon base. The feeling of victory was short-lived, as [[Starscream (Animated)|some loud-mouth]] and [[Starscream clone (Animated)|a bunch of oddly colored jets]] broke into the base from above. {{storylink|A Bridge Too Close, Part I}}

Mix would've happily stayed out of this fight, except one of those good-for-nothing 'bots spilt his oil! His blasts of quick-drying cement were a major asset in the battle, helping paralyze foes like [[Thundercracker (Animated)|some big-headed jerk]]. He later cheered on Megatron's victory (despite having no idea what this "Cybertron" thing was anyway) only to watch it all fall apart when the Space Bridge malfunctioned. Mix was last seen heroically trying to save the oil from a cave-in. {{storylink|A Bridge Too Close, Part II}}

Having somehow gotten out of the rubble, Mixmaster and Scrapper took refuge in an old car manufacturing plant, where they drooled over in-repair cars. Soon, they were found by Bulkhead, who offered them a job, and after some initial hesistance, they accepted the job. They soon figured out that Bulkhead wasn't lying about the job being big, and it would "run him some serious overtime." Just after they started working, Scrapper found something heavy on the floor that he was picking up rubble from, and it took Mixmaster's help to get it up. What they pulled up was a forklift. But not just any forklift, but a Constructicon forklift, [[Dirt Boss (Animated) |Dirt Boss]]. Dirt Boss easily obtains servants in both Mixmaster & Scrapper after he toys with Scrapper in the classic tease of "Stop hitting yourself". The Constructicon trio decide to take over the city by stealing all of the city's oil, much to MIxmaster's, along with Scrapper's, happiness. Mixmaster, along with Scrapper, then proceed to help Dirt Boss attack an oil tankor (driven by Sparkplug Witwicky), in which they throw him out, and drag the tankor away. This little conflict attracts the atteniton of not only the Detroit Powell Press (Man, Powell's got connections!), but also the Detroit Police Department, as do their continued attacks on ships and gas stations.

After a while, Mixmaster, along with Scrapper, begins to enjoy all the oil they've stolen, but Dirt Boss doesn't like that they're drinking it, and tells them it's not for drinking. Mix is later forced to help Dirt Boss destroy the Detroit Fossil Fuel Refinery, by lighting the oil on fire. Bulkhead refuses to allow this to happen, and tries (but fails) to stop them with his wrecking-ball arm, which ends up getting stuck in Mixmaster's chemical arm. Mixmaster is then forced to drag Bulkhead everywhere he goes, but Bulkhead wasn't entirely useless, as he could be the one to torch the refinery, at the cost of his life. Only problem is...Mixmaster is still attached to him, so he would be destroyed as well. Both Scrapper and Dirt Boss say it's for a worthy cause, which greatly angers Mixmaster. Once the Autobots arrive on the scene, Bulkhead (Having been taken control of by Dirt Boss) is forced to attack the Autobots, using Mixmaster's body as a weapon (Much to Mixmaster's annoyance). Eventually, Bulkhead is freed from Dirt Boss's control, and he manages to separate himself from Mixmaster. Though, Mixmaster is then faced with yet another problem. When Bulkhead managed to get him off, Mix went flying back, and landed right on top of Scrapper, who got his arm stuck in his chemical-dispensing thing in his chest (Man Mix, it is just not your day!) Dirt Boss then proceeded to take them to the top of an oil tank (which is about to explode), and they are transwarped away with it, and are with it when it explodes in the middle of Lake Erie.

After the blast, Scrapper made it to Dinobot Island and lived there for a few weeks, unsure of what fate had befallen Mixmaster and Dirt Boss. {{storylink|Human Error, Part II}} ''After the Autobots captured the Decepticons and returned to Cybertron, however, it was revealed that the other two Constructicons had also survived, though where they had been wasn't explained. When the Autobots attacked the Decepticon [[Space Bridge]], Mixmaster foolishly attempted to hold [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]] off all on his own. Regarding Mixmaster as little more than an annoyance, Prime kicked him square in the oil gut, sending the Constructicon tumbling over at [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]]'s feet. {{storylink|The Cool Episode 7}}
