'''''Transformers: Age of Extinction''''' is the fourth film in the [[live-action film series]]. It was released on [[June 27]], [[2014]].

Following the [[Transformers: Dark of the Moon (film)|Battle of Chicago]], humanity has come to fear both Autobots and Decepticons alike. With the aid of a Transformer mercenary named [[Lockdown (ROTF)|Lockdown]], a CIA [[Cemetery Wind|task-force]] operated by [[Harold Attinger]] begins hunting the remaining [[Transformer]]s on [[Earth]]. Hunted by enemies that were once his allies, [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]] sends his forces into hiding. Now, four years later, struggling inventor and single-father [[Cade Yeager]] discovers a damaged Transformer, placing both himself and his [[Tessa Yeager|daughter]] on a collision course with events that threaten the extinction of humankind itself.
[[File:The Creators AOE.jpg|thumb|right|300px|"Brace yourselves. Robotic hell is coming."]]
65 million years ago, on the planet [[Earth]], during the Cretaceous Period, a ''Psittacosaurus'' is out hunting for food. Finding a fish, the small dinosaur starts to feed, but stops as hundreds of alien ships enter Earth's atmosphere. These alien ships are commanded by "The Creators". The alien ships begin launching bombs called "Seeds" everywhere. When detonated, they turn most of the Earth's surface and much of its organic life into a metallic element. Barely escaping, the ''Psittacosaurus'' walks through the fields of metallic dinosaur corpses. The Age of the Dinosaurs is over.

[[File:AOE Ratchet dying.jpg|thumb|left|300px|"Knew I shouldn't have signed that Sacrificial Lion clause in the contract!"]]
Four years after the invasion of [[Chicago]], tensions between humans and Cybertronians have risen dramatically. The government of the United States has terminated all human-Autobot joint operations and deemed every Autobot a wanted fugitive. [[Harold Attinger]] heads a black-ops military unit known as [[Cemetery Wind]], which aims to hunt down and kill all Transformers, regardless of faction. On one such mission aboard an abandoned boat, the team pinpoint another Transformer in hiding, who turns out to be [[Ratchet (Movie)|Ratchet]]. Initially he tries to run, but when he is forced to transform, he tries to reason with the CIA operatives. [[James Savoy]], who leads the field operations and reports to the paranoid Attinger, dismisses Ratchet's pleas. Then, a cannon emerges from the swamp, firing off a few rounds, knocking Ratchet down, and destroying his leg. It's revealed to be [[Lockdown (ROTF)|Lockdown]], who demands to know Optimus Prime's whereabouts. Ratchet's defiance earns him a hook through the chest, killing him.

In Texas, struggling inventor [[Cade Yeager]] and his friend/employee [[Lucas Flannery]] meet at an old theater, looking for parts/salvage. He finds an old truck, and upon inspection, it seems to have artillery shells inside it. He buys the truck along with the other theater equipment and puts it in his garage. [[Tessa Yeager|Tessa]], Cade's daughter, observes this while video-chatting with her boyfriend and criticizes her dad for buying the heap of junk.
[[File:RustyoldtruckAOE.jpg|thumb|right|300px|"*Gasp* It's not mint in box!"]]
Later on, Cade discovers a giant hole on the radiator while taking the truck apart. After calling Lucas and Tessa, he connects jumper cables to its engine, only for it to promptly declare "Calling all Autobots...". Lucas and Tessa advocate calling the police, claiming that there is a huge reward for Transformers. Cade convinces them not to call the authorities while he fixes the truck. When Cade removes a live missile from the truck's "power core," Optimus Prime transforms and roars in a fit of rage while waving his shotgun. Lucas gets injured in the head by the swinging shotgun. Cade, Lucas, and Tessa enquire why Optimus is in such a ragged state, to which he replies that the Autobots are being hunted and he must help them. Seeing the damaged condition the Autobot leader is in, Cade decides to repair him. Cade sends Lucas to buy the parts that will enable him to fix Optimus.

Shortly after, however, a strike team led by Savoy and commanded by Attinger approaches the farm, having been tipped off to Prime's location by Lucas. Agents swarm the barn, but there is no trace of Prime inside. As Savoy presses a gun to Tessa's head and Cade swears that he doesn't know where Prime is, said Cybertronian explodes out of the floor of the barn-he was hiding in the basement under the barn. Optimus escapes, still being chased by Cemetery Wind. As Cade catches a mini-drone used by Cemetery Wind and the Yeager residence explodes, a white rally car zooms over the adjacent fields and picks up the Yeagers and Lucas. The driver is revealed to be [[Shane Dyson|Shane]], Tessa's boyfriend and rally car racer.

Lockdown arrives to chase Optimus. Prime, as well as the Yeagers, Shane, and Lucas, is chased into an abandoned factory. While Optimus fights Lockdown, Shane puts his driving skills to good use and dispatches most of Cemetery Wind. However, the stunt driving has broken the car's axle. They pile into Optimus and flee, but Lucas is caught in the radius of Lockdown's grenade and is turned into metal, frozen in midstride.

Arriving at a very dilapidated gas station, Optimus orders the humans out and drives off to ensure that they have not been followed. Cade and Shane converse. Tessa gets angry at Cade again for putting them all in danger.
[[File:Autobots unite monument valley AOE.jpg|thumb|left|300px]]
The next day Optimus and the humans set off towards Monument Valley but stop at a small ATM on the way. Cade tries to use the mini-drone to make a transaction out of his account. This fails, of course, and has the unfortunate side effect of alerting the feds to their location. A group of police cars descend on the scene but the entourage has already left. Prime scans a passing truck, sheds his layer of rust and takes on a new form with his old paint scheme. They arrive in Monument Valley where they meet other Autobot refugees in the form of [[Crosshairs (Movie)|Crosshairs]], [[Hound (Movie)|Hound]], [[Drift (ROTF)|Drift]], and [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]]. Crosshairs and Hound start threatening the humans for having their species betray them. Optimus convinces them that they have risked their lives to save his. Later, Optimus asks if the are any other Autobots that are still hiding. Cade reveals footage of Ratchet and Leadfoot's demise using the stolen aerial drone. Hound takes off his hat out of respect for his fallen friend while Prime declares that he will kill the one responsible for hunting down the Autobots.

Inspection of the drone leads them to a company named [[Kinetic Solutions Incorporated|KSI]], located in Chicago. It is run by [[Joshua Joyce]], who is working with [[Su Yueming]] and Attinger to create artificial Transformers to eventually be used in the military. Using the remains of Megatron, Sentinel Prime, and the countless Decepticons from the Chicago battle, they have synthesized a matter called '[[Transformium]]', which, when given commands through a computer, can 'transform' into various shapes or objects. Although a drone called [[Stinger (AOE)|Stinger]] (designed after Bumblebee) is active, Joshua's major project is a bigger, stronger drone called [[Galvatron (AOE)|Galvatron]]. However, his attempts have not been successful—the drone keeps resembling ''[[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]]'' instead of the more friendlier image of Optimus Prime. Bumblebee builds Cade and Shane faux-ID badges which the duo use to infiltrate KSI. Cade goes further in and projects imagery of Ratchet's severed head being melted down for Transformium and the captured [[Brains]], currently missing a leg. This sends Prime into a rage, prompting him to declare that he's "gonna tear them apart". Meanwhile, Shane tries to restrain Bumblebee from demolishing a Stinger prototype after a promotional video repeatedly calls him inferior to the man-made drone. He has only partial success, but both human and Autobot manage to avoid detection.

However, Cade is caught when his ID badge is found to have been scanned twice (by him and its original owner). He is taken to the upper floors and confronted by Attinger, who claims that what he has witnessed is for world peace. He also asks him about the whereabouts of Optimus Prime. Cade maintains his silence.

Furious over how the humans have mutilated their comrades, Optimus orders an attack on KSI. Bumblebee, carried upstairs by Drift in copter mode, rescues Cade. The others trash the lab, free Brains, and confront Joshua, only for him to openly declare that what is being done is being done to prevent more Transformer-caused damage and that the humans "don't need" the Autobots. Disheartened, Prime orders a retreat.

As the Autobots exit the factory and leave, Attinger catches up with Joshua and claims that the Autobots have declared war on the humans by smashing into the facility. He coerces Joyce to use the two functional drones to take down the Autobots. Galvatron and Stinger activate and pursue their quarry across a highway. The Autobots evade Galvatron's and Stinger's missiles but are deterred when the drones transform and attack. Bumblebee fires upon Galvatron but is surprised to see him simply disintegrate and reintegrate again. Galvatron attacks Prime, who tries to stab the robot in the 'spark chamber' but finds nothing. The artificial robot still functions, and when Prime is surprised about its lack of a spark, it snarls back "That is why I have no FEAR!"

As Tessa scrambles for cover in a nearby vehicle, Prime is suddenly shot from the back and falls—Lockdown has arrived, along with his ship! The bounty hunter orders a net dropped over Optimus, hoisting both the Autobot leader and the vehicle Tessa sought refuge in. Cade desperately clings to the net, but his strength gives out and he falls to the fields below. As the spaceship departs, Cade and Shane vow to get Tessa back.

Lockdown throws Prime in a cage and orders his lackeys to dispose of Tessa. Prime takes note of several other aliens in similar cages. He also discovers the original purpose of the mercenary ship: it was supposed to be used by a group of legendary Knights (presumably including Prime himself) but now acts as Lockdown's flying prison. As the vessel flies over Chicago, Attinger is informed of Prime's capture and arranges for Savoy to meet Lockdown aboard the ship. He also discourages several government agencies from opening fire, claiming that he has an "asset" on the ship.

Cade, Shane, and the other Autobots clamber on the ship as it flies low over a bridge. Cade and Shane find Tessa, who has seen Attinger and Savoy receive "the Seed" from Lockdown. However, Tessa completely ignores her father the moment they reconcile and proceeds to cling to Shane, calling him her savior. Cade, thoroughly ridiculed and at a loss for words, can only roll his eyes. The inventor and Shane also find a strange armory, from which Cade takes a sword that opens up to form a gun (referred to as "alien gun").

Crosshairs deploys the ship's mooring cables as a method of distraction, causing them to attach to the Willis Tower and preventing the ship from going into warp. This allows the humans to climb down to the tower with Bumblebee's help. Crosshairs appears again, this time in a gunship, and instructs the humans to come aboard. Lockdown's own ships soon give chase.

Lockdown has detached the mooring cables and prepare to warp once again. However, Prime reveals that the section they are in is actually a separate ship. With Hound controlling the ship, they separate from the main ship just as it warps away.

Back at KSI, it is decided that all equipment is to be moved to the Beijing facility to continue operations. Joshua is also none too pleased about the previous field test of Galvatron-not only was it lost on several fronts, but the drone also ''spoke'', which was something it was ''not'' programmed to do!

The Autobots regroup at a train yard and Optimus claims that he felt the presence of Megatron during his fight with Galvatron. Brains seconds this, as he was forced to decipher the functionality in Megatron's brain, which helped the humans build Galvatron's body (and explains why Joshua could not get Galvatron to resemble Optimus). The tiny bot further mentions how Galvatron used his knowledge to build Stinger and the other drones, with plans to make them into his personal army.

As Tessa elaborates about the Seed she saw, Optimus explains how the Creators used Seeds to wipe out entire species and harvest metal produced—Transformium.

Drift intercepts a communications message which says Joyce will be going to the Beijing facility. Hearing this, Cade makes a call to Joyce and relays the newfound data about Galvatron. Knowing that Joyce is also an inventor with a heart, he pleads with Joyce to shut down Galvatron before things escalate. Although Joyce puts up an unconvinced face, he calls for increased security around Galvatron right after the call.

As police cars surround the train yard the Autobots board the shuttle again and take to the air. Optimus says that though the Autobots will travel to Hong Kong and get the Seed back, they are done protecting humanity after that. Cade disagrees but Prime is non-responsive.

In deep space, Lockdown finally discovers the absence of the smaller ship. He grumbles about Optimus Prime taking his trophy case and how the Prime will feel his wrath while he reverses course.

Joyce meets with Attinger and Savoy and receives the Seed. Joyce intends to detonate it in a region of the Mongolian Desert, which will generate enough Transformium to last a century. Attinger is eager to expedite production but grows incensed when Joshua disagrees and says that they should go slower, quite obviously moved by Cade's call.

Meanwhile, Galvatron activates ''on his own'' and starts to infect the legion of over fifty KSI Transformers, including Stinger, [[Junkheap (AOE)|Junkheap]], a collection of differently colored [[Trax (AOE)|Traxes]], and some [[Two-headed Shockwave]]s. When the alarm rings regarding Galvatron's escape, Joyce has Attinger and Savoy evacuated from the building and gets in a car with Yueming, an associate named Darcy, and the Seed.

As the trio drive away, they realize the need for a place to hide the Seed. Yueming instructs them to head to Hong Kong, where she can enlist the help of the local armed forces. As the sun rises, Darcy drives off to create a diversion while Joshua and Yueming try to get the Seed out of the city. Joyce learns from his team of scientists (who are playing with some Transformium, using it to create a Rainbow Dash doll and a machine gun successively) that the Seed has the range of a thermo-nuclear device!

As Joyce seeks refuge on a rooftop (and grabs a nearby soybean drink), the Autobot-piloted ship arrives and attempts to pick him and the Seed up. However, Galvatron and his drones have arrived, and a Trax shoots down the airborne vessel with its rockets, causing Bumblebee, Hound, and the Yeagers to spill out of the cargo hold and the others (Prime, Crosshairs, Drift, and the captured Knights) to careen away into a mountainside. Savoy finds the Yeagers and Joyce on the rooftop and open fires on them as they take cover in the elevator. Cade distracts Savoy, who apparently now has a vendetta with the inventor, and distracts the agent long enough for his family to escape. The two jump acorss rooftops, eventually crashing into a house and get in a fist fight. Savoy pulls out a knife, ready to attack Cade, who counters with a football (apparently used to remember a dead kid) and a tackle that results in Savoy falling out a window and dying on impact. Attinger watches as this happens and receives a message from Lockdown on an advance communications device, asking where his bounty is. Attinger gives his location, giving Lockdown the green light to do what he must to retrieve Prime.

Hound and Bumblebee attempt to escort the humans and the Seed out of the city, but are cut short when Joshua points out that the KSI-built Transformers were specifically built to hunt and destroy any Autobots or Decepticons left on Earth. This prompts Prime to return into the ship and activate the armory as well as release the other captives within the ship. As Hound and Bumblebee hold the line and protect the humans, Optimus tries to convince the [[Dinobot (AOE)|Legendary Warriors]] to fight alongside them. Their [[Grimlock (AOE) |apparent leader]] declines at first, fighting the Prime in both his massive robot mode and his Tyrannosaurus mode. Optimus quickly defeats him, saying that he and other warriors will protect his family or die, then mounts the metal dinosaur. After a heroic speech, Crosshairs comments that one would want to die for Optimus, saying he shows great leadership...or brainwashing. Drift replies that this is just how Optimus Prime gains respect. The Autobots mount their Dinobots and charge over the mountains into Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Hound is running out of ammunition and growing desperate, even going so far as to throw his own helmet at synthetic enemies to knock them out. Just as he runs out, Optimus and his fellow Autobots storm into the city, slamming, crushing, stomping, and chomping on all nearby enemies. Galvatron, nowhere near any of this, yells that Prime and his allies are ruining everything. With this battle over, Prime turns his attention to Joyce. He says that Joyce will be responsible for the extinction of humanity. The T-Rex roars at the already frightened Joyce before Optimus gives the order to defend the humans and escort them away from the city.

On the way, a homing beacon within the Seed activates, allowing Lockdown to track it and the Autobots down. He activates a massive magnet, wreaking havoc on Hong Kong. Everything metal from kitchenware to massive ships are picked up by the magnet; not even the Autobots or the Warriors are safe. After narrowly avoiding the magnet, the Yeagers are separated from the Autobots, who are being sucked into Lockdown's ship by the same magnet. Optimus shoots at the magnet, destroying it. The ship retreats to a nearby factory, with Optimus hot on its trail. Cade tells his daughter to stay with Shane and the Autobots, as he wishes to fight alongside Optimus against Lockdown. As Optimus faces Lockdown, however, Attinger corners Yeager with a pistol, accusing him of choosing aliens over his country, but he is quickly shot and killed by Optimus. Cade replies to the corpse that he would make the same choice any time.

Lockdown gains the upper hand, stabbing Optimus through the chest with his own sword and pinning him to a concrete pillar. He makes a brief speech eerily similar to Attinger's before Cade starts shooting at him. Meanwhile, Tessa convinces Bumblebee to turn around and fight Lockdown, allowing Shane to use a tow truck to unpin Prime. Just as Lockdown is about to perform a killing blow on Cade, Optimus jumps up and slices the bounty hunter in half! Activating one of Lockdown's grenades, Prime tells the humans to hold on and blasts off while the grenade detonates and demolishes Galvatron's forces. Meanwhile, Galvatron watches Prime blast off and warns him to beware, for he is reborn...

Reflecting on the danger he will bring to the Earth if he stays (due to the bounty on his head), Prime blasts off into space with the Seed to confront the creators, but not before ordering the Autobots to protect the Yeager family.

==Errors==
===Continuity errors===
*[[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] is seen on the cards Attinger pulls out early in the film, listed as deceased and having been last seen in Chicago. However, Ironhide was killed by Sentinel Prime in Washington, D.C., midway through ''Dark of the Moon''.
*Scenes from the Decepticons' invasion of Chicago in ''Dark of the Moon'' are shown as archival footage presented by Attinger. While it is conceivable some lucky people with cameras recorded the initial attack and managed to survive and publish their footage, it's highly unlikely people would've been able to get close-up video footage of the [[NEST]] team taking down [[Barricade (Movie)|Barricade]] and the other Decepticons. In an outside-world context, these scenes are simply used as stock footage to help serve as exposition for the audience.

===Technical/animation errors===
*When Lucas leaves to get parts from the hardware store, he is wearing a green jacket. He returns jacket-less and in a red flannel shirt.
*Scrambling Cemetery Wind seems to scramble the timeline. From the deployment of Cemetery Wind to Lucas's death, the time of day is in limbo. For example, Optimus escapes from the Yeager property at sunset, joining the pursuit that takes place in early afternoon.
*When Shane's car gets sideswiped in the cornfield, the back left window is shattered. A couple scenes later, the window is just rolled down.
*After Bumblebee scans his new alternate mode, the camera pans over the car and Tessa and Shane are not inside.
*When Joshua is in the lab showing Darcy Transformium, in two different shots, a white, uncolored prop of Ratchet's head can be seen being worked on in the next room.
*Some security guards in KSI are completely oblivious to Crosshairs's shooting and shouting until a few seconds before the scene changes.
*When he loses his grip on the net holding Optimus and the car containing Tessa, Cade is shown falling toward the street, but he lands on the grass by the road.
*When the Autobots are on a bridge, before boarding Lockdown's ship, Crosshairs is clearly shown to be speaking but no dialogue is heard.
*While the human characters are climbing across the anchor cables to the high-rise building some of the Steeljaws begins to climb out after them. Cade tells his daughter not to look back and see them, but when we cut back to her, with a clear view of the cables behind her, the Steeljaws are not visible for this moment.
*When Bumblebee jumps off Lockdown's ship to save the humans, he is followed by a Steeljaw. In the following shot, the Steeljaw is gone.
*While explaining Megatron's plans to the Autobots, Brains rings a bell on a train. In the next shot, the bell is not moving.
*During the motorcycle chase, the CIA cars change. At first, Joshua and Su are trailed by a Cadillac and an Audi; in the middle of the chase, the Cadillac is replaced by another Audi. By the end of the chase, the Cadillac is back.
*Grimlock melts some KSI Transformers on a covered bridge with his fire breath, though the bridge itself remains intact until he crashes through it.
*When Lockdown shoots at Cade during his battle with Optimus, Cade and Attinger take cover despite Attinger's very recent death.

===[[Dinobot Island, Part 1|Paleontology weeps]]===
*The cyberformed remains of a ''Tyrannosaurus'' and a ''Spinosaurus'' appear frozen together in the arctic at the beginning of the film. This is rather odd considering the two are found in different continents (North America and Africa respectively) and separated by around 35 million years of evolution.
*The dinosaurs include a ''Psittaccosaurus'' (100-120 million years old), a generic hadrosaur that might be either an ''Edmontosaurus'' or a ''Shantungosaurus'' (65-70 million years old), and a brachiosaurid (100-157 million years old) during what is implied to be the K-Pg extinction event (64.5-65 million years old).
*The ''Psittaccosaurus'', a well known herbivorous animal, is seen actively hunting and killing live prey.
*The Dinobots show various exaggerations and ornamentations which go beyond the usual suspension of disbelief involved in... [[Dinobot (disambiguation)|giant metal dinosaurs]]. Grimlock sports curved, backwards pointing horns and enormous fangs. Slug has huge tail spikes and a set of nasty chin horns. Scorn probably gets off the easiest, being ''mostly'' correct, bar his extra fins. Strafe is the biggest offender, with a double pair of elongate tails and twin heads.

==Transformers references==
<!-- THINGS THAT ARE MERELY SIMILAR TO OTHER THINGS ARE NOT REFERENCES. REFERENCES ARE INTENTIONAL. -->
* As usual, many of the new characters have roots in older portions of the mythos:
** [[Drift (ROTF)|Drift]] is based on [[Drift (G1)|a Generation 1 character]] introduced in IDW's 2008 ''[[The Transformers: All Hail Megatron|All Hail Megatron]]'' series.
** Lockdown is derived from [[Lockdown_(Animated)|a character in the 2008 ''Animated'' cartoon]] who had already jumped over to the G1 comics and, in toy form, to the Movie universe.
** [[Hound (disambiguation)|Hound]] and [[Crosshairs (disambiguation)|Crosshairs]] both share names with previous characters; their personalities are new and unique, though Hound seems based on [[Bulkhead (Prime)|''Prime'' Bulkhead]] in physique, coloration and personality.
** Galvatron being a new form for Megatron has been a thing for [[Galvatron (disambiguation)|basically forever]].
** The Dinobots are the latest iteration of [[Dinobot (G1)|the powerhouse subfaction]] that first appeared in the early days of Generation 1. Their leader Grimlock is a direct analog of [[Grimlock (G1)|his Generation 1 counterpart]]; Strafe and Slug are based on Generation 1 [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]] and [[Slag (G1)|Slag]], respectively.
* In the film's opening act, Optimus has adopted a flatnosed truck alternate mode akin to that of his [[Optimus Prime (G1)|G1 counterpart]].
* This is not the first time that Ratchet and Lockdown have faced off. ''Animated'' [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]] and [[Lockdown (Animated)|Lockdown]] had [[The Thrill of the Hunt|a long-running feud]]. Within the movie universe, the two characters have been described as rivals on toy packaging bios, and faced off in ''[[Cyber Missions 3]]''.
* The concept of the Transformers being built by another race first appeared in the third season of [[The Transformers (cartoon)|the original ''Transformers'' cartoon]].
* Meanwhile, the concept of humans hunting down all Transformers on Earth following a massive and disastrous battle hearkens back to plotlines from IDW's [[The Transformers (IDW)|2009-2011 ongoing series]].
* The (rather obvious) theme of humans (particularly Evil Government Agencies) using captured Transformers as a source of technology has appeared numerous times in the mythos, going all the way back to the [[Rapid Anti-robot Assault Team|RAAT]] agency in the original Marvel Comics. [[Transformers Animated (cartoon)|The ''Animated'' cartoon]] in particular featured the severed head of [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]] being studied and reverse-engineered, while in IDW's ongoing G1 stories, [[Sunstreaker (G1)|a Transformer's severed head]] was used to help design man-made Transformers (in [[The Transformers: Maximum Dinobots|a Dinobot-focused series at that]].) More broad uses of the concept include the Dreamwave ''[[War and Peace]]'' mini-series, Devils Due's ''[[G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers: The Art of War|Art of War]]'' mini-series (''again'' featuring the severed head of [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]), the [[The Transformers (IDW)|IDW ongoing series]], [[All or Nothing!|Cobra's actions in the G2 comics]], and [[MECH]] from the [[Transformers: Prime (cartoon)|''Prime'' cartoon]].
* The ringtone on Joshua's assistant's cell phone is a remixed version of the original G1 Transformers [[theme song]].
* In the scene where Optimus scans a passing truck, the classic [[Transformation#The noise|transformation noise]] plays when the Autobot symbol emerges from his grill.

==Real-life references==
*Among the objects KSI makes from Transformium in the film is a Rainbow Dash doll from [[My Little Pony|another popular Hasbro brand]].
==Reception==
The movie has been received with varied ratings. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a rating of 17%, though 58% of the audience liked it. Damn tomatoes. However, IMDb gave it 6.4. Entirely, as the only professional reviews, the movie received up and down ratings, leaving more reviews to come.
{{voiceactor|[[Frank Welker]] (English)|}}
{{spoiler|Transformers: Age of Extinction (film)|July 28}}
Though believed dead, Megatron actually survived the battle of [[Chicago]] though he remained a non-functioning and immobile head. Megatron's head was collected by Joshua Joyce's KSI, and used to produce man-made Transformers. Learning of KSI and Cemetary Wind's alliance with [[Lockdown (ROTF)|Lockdown]] in order to obtain a Seed, Megatron silently bided his time until KSI finished creating a new body for him to inhabit, with which he plotted to rebel against KSI and take the Seed for himself to simultaneously wipe out millions of humans, and to announce his return. Only [[Brains]], who was forced into hard labor by KSI, knew Megatron lived, but was unwilling to share this information with his captors. The new body unit was dubbed "Galvatron", but thanks to its source coding being developed from Megatron, its body was twisted and very reminiscent of it's source. This came to the chagrin of Joyce, who wanted the robot to have the friendlier appearance of [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]].

After the Autobots left KSI after an attempted raid, [[Harold Attinger]] ordered Galvatron deployed with [[Stinger (AOE)|Stinger]] to destroy Optimus. Upon activation, Galvatron pretended to obey KSI's remote control, but showed several signs of free will during the operation, including firing weapons unbidden. Galvatron separated Optimus from [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] and the Autobots, attacking many civilians in his way. Galvatron soon came to fight Optimus in robot mode, and held his own against the Autobot leader. When Optimus declared Galvatron had no soul, he retorted that it left him without any fear in exchange. It was this verbal exchange that alerted Optimus to Galvatron's true nature, but before the fight could be resolved, Lockdown arrived and easily dispatched his prey. Galvatron was retrieved from the field by a furious Joyce, declaring Galvatron's signs of autonomy as critical flaws.

Brains revealed Galvatron's scheme to [[Cade Yeager]], who called Joyce and alerted him of the danger Galvatron posed should he obtain the Seed. Having ended his deal with Lockdown, Attinger handed over the Seed he'd received in exchange for Optimus. Though efforts were made to tighten security, Galvatron activated on his own, and breathed life into the other KSI Transformers, allowing them to rebel against their creators. However, Joyce was able to flee the facility from both Galvatron and the CIA with the Seed, attempting to rendezvous with the Autobots and Yeagers in Hong Kong. Galvatron ordered his new Decepticons to pursue Joyce, and his troops were able to shoot down the Autobot ship just as Joyce was about to hand over the Seed, causing the ship to crash in the nearby Wulong Valley, leaving only [[Hound (Movie)|Hound]] and Bumblebee to protect the humans and the Seed. However, just as the two were about to be overwhelmed, the other Autobots returned with the [[Dinobot (AOE)|Dinobot]]s in tow, quickly turning the tide of battle and slaying most of the Decepticons. Galvatron was only saved by the timely reappearance of [[Lockdown (ROTF)|Lockdown]], whose attack on Prime left the mercenary ship unhelmed and ripe for Galvatron's taking. With his plans temporarily stymied, Galvatron swore retribution against Prime and wandered the city. {{storylink|Transformers: Age of Extinction (film)}}
:Galvatron transforms into a 2012 Freightliner Argosy - and not surprisingly, he is a ''complete'' shell-former, with his truck mode folding up solely along his back and calves. As with Evasion Optimus Prime, he has a different paint scheme than seen on his packaging, with less paint applications on his body and weapon. His truck mode is also a darkish grey, rather than the black seen in the movie footage. His cannon can either be held like a gun, or fitted on his hand in a way that appears as if it is coming out of his arm.

:Galvatron's package is the only packaging in the Age of Extinction toyline thus far that neglects to mention what his alternate mode is called. The only mention of Freightliner being involved with his alternate mode is mentioned in the tiny copyright information section of the box.
*Concept art for Galvatron in [[Transformers: Dark of the Moon|''Dark of the Moon'']] was created by [[Massive Black]] artist [[Bruno 'Nox' Gore]]. Whether he was intended to be an upgraded Megatron or a separate character entirely is unknown. [http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/flipbook/mb_2/index.php].
*Interestingly (perhaps to avoid movie spoilers), the toy-bio for Galvatron on the Voyager packaging does not mention ''anything'' about Galvatron, but rather how the Autobots face new adversaries after the Battle of Chicago.
* ''Age of Extinction'' sees Frank Welker make his debut as the live-action incarnation of Megatron, returning to the role he originated in 1984 and was passed over for the first three films. Amusingly, Welker voiced both Megatron and Galvatron in the original series, so he is reprising two roles at once! Though as Brains puts it in the film, different name, same guy underneath.
'''''Transformers: Age of Extinction''''' is the fourth film in the [[live-action film series]]. It was released on [[June 27]], [[2014]].

The film is set four years after the climactic battle of ''[[Transformers: Dark of the Moon (film)|Dark of the Moon]]''. The humans have turned against the Autobots, and the CIA has set up a taskforce operated by [[Harold Attinger]] with the intent of tracking down the remaining [[Transformer]]s on [[Earth]]. [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]] sends his forces into hiding around the country, unaware that the taskforce has extra-terrestrial help.

==Synopsis==
65 million years ago, on the planet Earth, a Psittacosaurus is out hunting for food. Finding a fish, the small dinosaur starts to feed, but stops as hundreds of alien ships enter Earth's atmosphere, with mysterious aliens laying down bombs all over the surface. Detonating them, they turn most of the Earth's surface and much of its organic life into a metallic element. Barely escaping, the Psittacosaurus walks through the fields of metallic dinosaur corpses. This is the end of the reign of the dinosaurs.

Four years have passed since the final battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons left Chicago in ruins and claimed the lives of over a thousand civilians. The U.S. government has severed its ties with the Autobots and branded them as fugitives. An elite CIA unit called "Cemetery Wind" is formed by Harold Attinger with the intent of hunting down and exterminating the surviving Autobots with the aid of Lockdown, a Transformer bounty hunter. Meanwhile, using data obtained from destroyed Transformers, and finding the remains of dinosaurs from the terraforming millions of years ago, thanks to geologist Darcy Tyril, business tycoon Joshua Joyce and his technology firm Kinetic Solutions Incorporated (KSI) have discovered "Transformium", the unstable metal that forms the flesh of Transformers. Joshua's prized creation is Galvatron, a Transformer created from the data inside Megatron's severed head.

In rural Texas, struggling robotics inventor Cade Yeager and his friend Lucas Flannery purchase an old semi-truck in hopes of stripping it down and selling the parts to get Cade's daughter Tessa into college. Cade discovers that the truck is an injured Optimus Prime, and it is not long before Lockdown and Cemetary Wind operatives led by James Savoy storm into the Yeagers' farm and threaten them. Optimus comes out of hiding to fend off against the operatives while Cade, Tessa, and Lucas are rescued by Tessa's boyfriend Shane Dyson, an Irish rally racer. They lose the operatives in a lengthy chase in Paris, Texas, but Lucas is killed by Lockdown's grenade during their escape. Using a drone he took during the raid, Cade discovers that the operatives and KSI are working together. Optimus rallies the remaining Autobots – Bumblebee, Hound, Drift, and Crosshairs – and travel with their new human allies to infiltrate KSI's headquarters in Chicago. There, Cade, Shane, and Bumblebee discover the firm's reverse engineering of Transformer technology. Upon discovering that Ratchet has been slain and his head is being melted down, Optimus and the Autobots storm into the headquarters to destroy the laboratory, but Joshua convinces them that their actions are futile.

As the Autobots leave the premises, Joshua launches KSI's prototype Transformers Galvatron and Stinger. Optimus and Galvatron engage in a gruelling battle where Optimus realizes that Galvatron is Megatron in a new body. Suddenly, Optimus is blasted from behind by Lockdown, and in the midst of the chaos, he and Tessa are captured and taken into Lockdown's ship. Aboard the ship, Lockdown explains to Optimus that the Transformers were created by a mysterious alien race known as the "Creators", which hired him to capture the Autobot leader. As a reward for Optimus's capture, Attinger's operatives are given the "Seed", a powerful relic that cyber-forms any wide area of land. Cade, Shane and the Autobots storm into the ship to rescue Optimus and Tessa; while Bumblebee, Crosshairs, and the humans escape and crash into downtown Chicago, the other Autobots detach the rear section of the ship before it leaves into space. Joshua and his business partners Su Yueming and Darcy Tyril retreat to Beijing, where Attinger hands Joshua the Seed in exchange for a stake in KSI control. The Autobots and their human allies follow them to prevent them from detonating the Seed.

At KSI's Beijing factory, Galvatron suddenly activates by himself and infects all 50 of the firm's prototype Transformer soldiers to do his bidding. Realizing the folly of his creations, Joshua betrays Attinger before he, Su, and Darcy take the Seed to Hong Kong. There, the Autobots struggle to protect Joshua and the Seed from Galvatron and his minions, which shoot down the Autobots' ship. Cade kills Savoy during a fight in an apartment building. Outnumbered and outmatched, Optimus Prime releases a group of legendary knights and leads them back to the city to destroy Galvatron's army. Lockdown returns to Earth and uses a magnetic weapon to pull vehicles under his ship and drop them on the Autobots. Optimus destroys the weapon and engages in battle with Lockdown before killing Attinger to save Cade. Lockdown grabs Optimus's sword and impales him, but the combined efforts of Bumblebee, Cade, Tessa, and Shane distract the bounty hunter before Optimus stabs him in the chest and slices his head in half. Galvatron retreats, vowing to battle Optimus another day. With Lockdown destroyed and Cemetery Wind dissolved, Optimus sets the Dinobots free before flying into space with the Seed, sending a message to the Creators.
==Errors==
*While the human characters are climbing across the anchor cables to the high-rise building some of the Steeljaws begins to climb out after them. Cade tells his daughter not to look back and see them, but when we cut back to her, with a clear view of the cables behind her, the Steeljaws are not visible for this moment.

===Explicable discrepancies===
*When he first begins repairing Optimus, Cade mentions that a shell just missed his power core. Optimus tells Cade that Transformers call it a "spark" and that it contains their life-force and memories. Yet Galvatron, who has no spark, is alive and possessed by the consciousness and memories of Megatron (as explained by Brains). This is because the human-made Transformers are a new kind of life-form that have been genetically designed to work differently than real Transformers. It is similar to the real life debate about whether a human clone would be born with a soul.

*After escaping from Savoy's team, Optimus tells Cade that he needs to get to his other Autobots, that they can fully repair him. Yet scanning a new vehicle mode seems to do the trick and there's no further mention of needing repairs. It is, however, possible that he hadn't considered the possibility of scanning another vehicle until a suitable one was in sight.

*Speaking of repairs, after being hit by Lockdown's missiles, Optimus is incapacitated, unable to get up or move, and Lockdown is able to easily drag Optimus to his ship. Yet, when Optimus is rescued, he's just fine and able to move just as well as before. However, the Transformers were mentioned as having "self-regenerating molecular armor" in the movies. It is possible that he had enough time to regenerate the necessary parts to move properly.

*When the Autobots meet up in Utah, Hound remarks that the "whole gang" is back together....yet this is the first time we've seen or had any mention of Drift, Crosshairs or Hound in the films. There's also no mention of where they came from, as there was with the new Autobots in the preceding two movies. It is likely that they all knew each other from the days of Cybertron.

*Lockdown mentions that Optimus and the Dinobots were once Knights of some sort. This contradicts with Optimus' previous status as Prime and his status as leader of Cybertron with Megatron before the war. Unless he was hidden among the Knights by the original Primes before he was made part of the Autobots.

==Transformers references==
* We're treated to a concept of the Transformers being built by another race, here referred to as the Creators.
* The ringtone on Joshua's assistant's cell phone is a remixed version of the original G1 Transformers theme.
* Galvatron being a new form for Megatron has been a thing for basically forever.

== Ratchet toys HAS fingers articulation! (sort of) ==

It is almost inexistent, but I have the robot in my hands and his right toe finger is wide open right now. To make it possible you have to make room by deploying the axe yet letting the hand in position. Do that yourself and you'll see. When the axe is ranged (in other word, when the right arm is in "normal arm" mode),it is still possible to open the hand but only by 1 millimeter. It is also possible to open the left hand of 1 millimeter. I know it's a ridiculously restricted articulation, but it's still there.
(and I have say nothing about the ankles)
::Yeah, thumb (sorry for using the wrong word). But as the designers of the toy have purposely put a thumb articulation, even if it is almost inexistent, it should be mentioned.--[[User:GUIGUI|GUIGUI]] 15:04, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
==Success==
Does Ratchet ever actually successfully service -anyone- medically? It seems to me all he ever managed to accomplish was a TEMPORARY fix of Bumblebee's voice.. none of the other wounds or near-deaths could he do the slightest thing about. {{unsigned|173.11.36.165}}
==Toy Photos==
I have quite a few of the Ratchet toys that currently use stock photos and was planning on taking some photos next week for the wiki, but I noticed that several of the jokes in the captions rely on the stock photos. (Specifically the legends Ratchet and legends Rescue Ratchet vs. Brawl.) Would it be better to leave those alone? Also, I have both color variants of legends Ratchet. I checked the back of the package photos [http://www.shmax.com/package_details/6079/autobot_ratchet|here], but it calls it out as a "Mech Alive" gimmick, not "Automorphing" like the 2007 packaging did. However, the [http://www.shmax.com/package_details/6732/night_ops_ratchet|HFTD Night Ops Ratchet] box calls out "Automorphing Forearm ''claw''" on the back of the box.--[[User:Kookaburra|Kookaburra]] 10:53, 5 September 2010 (EDT)
Does anyone mind if I remove/change the caption on the picture of Ratchet analyzing Mountain Dew? It seems to be mocking Americans ("all Americans," as the caption says) based on an inflammatory stereotype (i.e. that "all Americans" are obese). ::Plus we Americans are fatties. -[[User:LV|LV]] 12:14, 22 June 2013 (EDT)
:::I think what I'd infer from "Why can't Ratchet tell all Americans about the dangers of smoking?" is that the author either believes that all Americans smoke or that Americans are more likely to smoke. Both are nonsensical claims, and they seem to come from an anti-American place; at the very least, I would be left saying, "Why only Americans? Why not anyone else? Maybe it's because the author thinks Americans are dumb." That being said, this isn't a big issue or anything, and you make a good point about the Kiss Players captions. It's cool. We can leave it as is. No problem. [[User:Thirtysilver|Thirtysilver]] 15:49, 22 June 2013 (EDT)

The character Meltdown will appear in Transformers Universe, so don't erase my edit, please. I didn't know wether to put hum under Prime or Universe, though. == Disambigs for New Game Characters? ==
Wasn't sure what disambig to use for the new characters Meltdown and Duststorm since we have a Universe fanchise already. I went with "Game". Anyone have a better idea, that's cool too. Thoughts? --[[User:ZacWilliam1|ZacWilliam1]] ([[User talk:ZacWilliam1|talk]]) 14:00, 27 February 2014 (EST)
:I changed it to (Universe 2014), ala [[Stockade (Universe 2003)|(Universe 2003)]] and [[Treadshot (Universe 2008)|(Universe 2008)]]. "Game" doesn't make sense - it's not called "Game" (e.g. [[Transformers: The Game]]) and it's ''far'' from the only Transformers game. - [[User:SanityOrMadness|SanityOrMadness]] ([[User talk:SanityOrMadness|talk]]) 14:25, 27 February 2014 (EST)
::I know we have a thing for introducing new Aligned "franchises" whenever titles don't match up, but this game (so far) is so completely and utterly Prime that this comes off as stupid. [[User:Mimi|Mimi]] ([[User talk:Mimi|talk]]) 14:38, 27 February 2014 (EST)
:::Oh, a serious rationalisation of (disambig)s would be nice. But that's a change that the admins won't even hear of. - [[User:SanityOrMadness|SanityOrMadness]] ([[User talk:SanityOrMadness|talk]]) 14:57, 27 February 2014 (EST)

::They can just be at (Universe), since the previous ''Universe''s didn't have a Meltdown or Duststorm. For instance, we have [[Ramjet (Universe)]] rather than [[Ramjet (Universe 2003)]]. [[User:Jalaguy|Jalaguy]] ([[User talk:Jalaguy|talk]]) 14:40, 27 February 2014 (EST)
:::That's making another cross-[[continuity family]] disambig though. (Prime) would be better than that (and hell, I suppose Exodus/Exiles/Retribution don't get their own (disambig)s despite not having WFC/FOC/Prime on the covers...). - [[User:SanityOrMadness|SanityOrMadness]] ([[User talk:SanityOrMadness|talk]]) 15:07, 27 February 2014 (EST)
::::It's ''already'' a cross-continuity tag. Though I would agree that this game is probably deserving of (Prime) tags. I mean, if I recall correctly, Exiles characters get (Prime) because we were told the book was going to "Prime" in its title at one point. If ''that'' flies, then this game's almost-but-not-quite Prime show designs ought to qualify it. [[User:Jalaguy|Jalaguy]] ([[User talk:Jalaguy|talk]]) 15:16, 27 February 2014 (EST)
:::::Indeed. Many ''Transformers'' video games don't have titles matching up with their franchises (the ''Armada'' game, ''Mystery of Convoy'', ''Cybertron Adventures'', etc.), but we still realize their appropriate franchises by things other than the title. (Which this article already does, if I may note.) [[User:Mimi|Mimi]] ([[User talk:Mimi|talk]]) 08:38, 28 February 2014 (EST)
== New Characters ==
*[[BotCon 2012]] attendees were able to reserve their in-game name at the convention.
* The game has gone through a couple of genre shifts. Initially slated to be released as an MMORPG with multiple classes and conventional character creation, but the [[Transformers: Fall of Cybertron|difficulty of customizing robots]] was cited as part of the reasoning in changing it to the quickly expanding MOBA genre. Right. <ref>
So Toy Fair is on, and Hasbro is showing off lots of stuff.
:But just because we know the toy names doesn't mean we know the film names. For DOTM Mirage and Wheeljack toys were actually called Dino and Que in the film proper. its no longer unofficial info, now that its been officialy confirmed. dont you think we should edit the cast and chaacters section {{unsigned|Eagc7}}
:Yes, I think that's official enough! --[[User:Abates|abates]] ([[User talk:Abates|talk]]) 19:34, 28 November 2013 (EST)
== Lockdown confirmed? ==
according to UK Toy Fair 2014, the Lambo is officialy lockdown, http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/first-look-at-transformers-4-age-of-extinction-track-set-aventador-character-name-revealed-179111/ {{unsigned|Eagc7}}
:Do we use toyline stuff as references? I mean, it's not unheard of for a character's name in the toyline to be different to their name in the movie. --[[User:Abates|abates]] ([[User talk:Abates|talk]]) 15:24, 21 January 2014 (EST)
::Of course it's not unheard. But it doesn't happen very often. Scalpel, Mirage and Wheeljack were only character who had different names in films. The name change doesn't happen to ALL characters. But now that I think about, keeping names out from here actually keeps majority of the spoilers unrevealed. --[[User:CAJH|CAJH]] ([[User talk:CAJH|talk]]) 12:21, 3 February 2014 (EET)
== Lots of names confirmed by Toy Fair... ==

So Toy Fair is on, and Hasbro is showing off lots of stuff.
Shouldn't the now-confirmed names be added to the cast list? Like Lockdown, Slug, Scorn, Strafe, Crosshairs, Drift, etc.? --[[User:Diamondmatter|Diamondmatter]] ([[User talk:Diamondmatter|talk]]) 09:00, 16 February 2014 (EST)
:But just because we know the toy names doesn't mean we know the film names. For DOTM Mirage and Wheeljack toys were actually called Dino and Que in the film proper. Until we know for certain which names will be carried across into the film those don't belong here but in the AoE merchandise section. [[User:Mister Jazzz|Mister Jazz]] ([[User talk:Mister Jazzz|talk]]) 11:05, 16 February 2014 (EST)
::IMHO we should at least add the characters who are in the trailer. If their names are different in the movie, we can change them here when we get confirmation. Their articles will end up at the [[Mirage (Movie)|toy]] [[Wheeljack (Movie)|name]] anyway. --[[User:Abates|abates]] ([[User talk:Abates|talk]]) 14:37, 16 February 2014 (EST)

Two things that I think we need:

* A category for character toy pages
* A small header template for the same, essentially identifying the page as subsidiary to the main character page. This would also be useful if we do things like split Optimus Prime's cartoon and comic appearances off onto their own page. -- [[User:Repowers|Repowers]] 11:54, 22 May 2009 (EDT)
Given that <nowiki>[[name (disambig) toys]]</nowiki> looks awkward, why not move to <nowiki>[[name (disambig)/toys]]</nowiki> and turn on the subpages functionality? That would clearly establish this (and other cases, like the looming split of [[Optimus Prime (G1)]]'s fiction section) as subordinate, and look less awkward. - [[User:SanityOrMadness|SanityOrMadness]] 11:58, 22 May 2009 (EDT)
::Just checked - the subpage functionality (Which can be seen at the top of [[User:SanityOrMadness/test]] - it's just a little note pointing back to the root page) is definitely ''not'' turned on in the main namespace. Even if everyone else is fine with it, we'll need Suzi Brits or someone with equivalent access to turn it on.
::''[and, uh, could a passing sysop please delete <nowiki>[[Optimus Prime (G1)/test]]</nowiki>, which I used to check that?]'' - [[User:SanityOrMadness|SanityOrMadness]] 20:10, 22 May 2009 (EDT)
:::Yeah, you have to add <tt>$wgNamespacesWithSubpages['0'] = true;</tt> to the LocalSettings file, as the Main namespace has subpages turned off by default. --[[User:Jeysie|Jeysie]] 20:48, 22 May 2009 (EDT)
::::::::Wait a day or two though - if we get any sort of visits-spike from the Animated finale, the site will probably go down, and there will probably be a few redirects, etc to fix from the moves. :::::::I would have no problem delinking the "Jazz has..." bit. ::::::::I still think it looks a bit silly written underneath itself on three lines like that whether it's linked or not. And as long as the factions are on the character page, and there's a clear link back to it (wherever it may be in regards to the layout), then I don't think they really need to be on the toys' page as well. - [[User:Magnus Maximus|Magnus Maximus]] 18:34, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
:::::::::FWIW, the subpages auto-link can be CSS-styled quite easily, if it's the look that's the problem. --[[User:Jeysie|Jeysie]] 20:08, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
::::::::::It's not the look, so much as the placing. I just think it looks a bit silly to have the article's subject stacked three-high like that right at the top of the page. We might as well put another line underneath them saying "This page is about Jazz, by the way, in case you didn't catch that." - [[User:Magnus Maximus|Magnus Maximus]] 02:21, 2 June 2009 (EDT)
:::::::::::But the article it's pointing back to is "Jazz (G1)". And I like the placing, and it's consistent across this and other wikis in this way. - [[User:SanityOrMadness|SanityOrMadness]] 20:10, 2 June 2009 (EDT)
:Side effect found. Articles that already had a slash in them now have an automatic unintended point back on them. Example: [[Transformers/G.I. Joe: Divided Front]]. I don't know if it is a problem, it could be ignored. But is there a template like <nowiki>{{lowercase}}</nowiki> that can disable it? - [[User:Starfield|Starfield]] 22:12, 3 June 2009 (EDT)
::I think this may need to be tweaked at the global CSS level - the wiki software prevents a <style> being hard-coded or transcluded into the page. - [[User:SanityOrMadness|SanityOrMadness]] 13:48, 6 June 2009 (EDT)
http://www.nissan-insight.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/2012-Nissan-370Z.jpg
whereas the Solstice has a dipped rear end that looks completely different from SO Jazz'
: The dipped rear-end, I would imagine, is taken from a Porsche, not any Nissan Z.
