[[File:RiseOfCobraRobotPanther.jpg|thumb|250px|Workin' on Transformers before he was actually on ''Transformers''!]]
*As a kid living in Ohio, John got to tour the {{w|American Greetings}} AmToy design studio for an elementary school career-path project. After seeing how {{w|Madballs}} were made, he decided he wanted to be a toy designer. (Quick, somebody press him for a [[Retrax#Toys|Retrax]] update!)
*John graduated with a degree in Industrial Design from Ohio State University, and worked in the automotive industry designing car interiors before joining Hasbro in 1999.
*Prior to ''Transformers'', John worked on ''[[Star Wars (franchise)|Star Wars]]'' (including ''Episode 1,'' ''Episode 2,'' and 300th [[Boba Fett]]), ''Shrek 2'', ''Rave Master'', and all ''Pokémon'' toys from 2000 to 2005 (and was a co-signee on a patent for toy/game convergence used on ''Pokémon THINKChip Plus'' figures).
*He is probably best known to Hasbro fans as the lead designer on all ''[[G.I. Joe (franchise)|G.I. Joe]]'' figures and vehicles from 2006 to 2013: ''Sigma 6'', ''25th Anniversary'', ''Rise of Cobra'' movie toys, ''Pursuit of Cobra'' (including original designs Shadow Tracker, Jungle-Viper, Zombie-Viper, and Data-Viper), ''30th Anniversary'', and ''Retaliation'' movie figures. Some of the ''50th Anniversary'' figures were also based on his "concept vault" work.
*At JoeCon 2011, Warden and [[Rik Alvarez]] participated in a "Treasures from the Hasbro Archives" panel, which revealed that a robot panther modeled on [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]] was intended for release with an unproduced ''Rise of Cobra'' "[[Baroness|Arctic Baroness]]" figure. While Warden consistently denied that it was going to actually '''be''' Ravage, the use of Ravage design cues was intentional. Neither the Baroness or the robot panther were tooled, with the panther in the photo being the only one in existence.
*His favorite Transformers are [[Roadbuster (G1)|Roadbuster]], [[Whirl (G1)|Whirl]], [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]], and [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]]. Three outa four ain't so bad!
[[Leo Spitz]] and [[Sharsky]] attempted to attend Comic-Con 2008, but were hampered by the fact that Sharsky had booked the hotel room for the week after Comic-Con. Luckily they met [[Fassbinder]], who got them a room by less-than-legal means, and the new trio of friends attended the convention.
: Available as an exclusive giveaway at Hasbro's booth for the San Diego Comic-Con 2005, Skywarp is a redeco of ''[[Legends Class (2005)|Legends of Cybertron]]'' [[Starscream (Armada)#LOC|Starscream]] in a traditional black/purple/silver Skywarp color scheme. He has a flip-out energon blade in his right arm, but as the original toy was a small-scale representation of Supreme Starscream, he features a flip-out null ray cannon in his left arm instead of another blade. It also included a [[Cyber Key]], which activated no features on the toy itself, but included the code "sc5t". The key is black with a red Autobot symbol. This is the only Legends toy to have one. It was explained by Hasbro employees that the key and figure were separate promotional items simply bagged together, and the Skywarp was indeed a Decepticon. This toy was listed as a Universe toy on the Hasbro web site.

: This mold was also used the make ''Cybertron'' [[Ramjet (Universe)#Cybertron|Ramjet]] and [[Sunstorm (Universe)#Cybertron|Sunstorm]], ''[[Transformers: Universe (2008 toyline)|Universe]]'' [[Ramjet (G1)#Classic Series|Ramjet]] and [[Thrust (G1)#Classic Series|Thrust]], ''[[Transformers: War for Cybertron (games)|War for Cybertron]]'' [[Starscream (WFC)#War for Cybertron|Starscream]], and [[Transformers: Dark of the Moon (toyline)|''Dark of the Moon'']] [[Starscream (Movie)/toys#BeeStarscream|Cybertronian Starscream]].
: He was initially sold [[exclusive]]ly at San Diego Comic-Con 2006 and for a limited time at Hasbro Toy Shop, selling out roughly an hour after its 2pm sales debut. : ''[[Transformers: Alternators|Alternators]]'' Rodimus Prime is an exclusive figure, released at the San Diego Comic-Con and [[Hasbro Toy Shop]] in July 2007. It is a repaint of Kiss Players Hot Rodimus, which itself is a retool of Alternators [[Mirage (G1)|Mirage]]. The figure uses the same head mold introduced in the Kiss Players figure, retaining the original's visor gimmick. The deco has been altered by changing the side striping from white to yellow, while the stripes over the hood, roof and trunk have been eliminated altogether, replaced by a Hot Rod-style flame graphic on the hood and front guards. Most of the Kiss Player deco remains in robot mode, including the yellow hands and flame graphics on the forearms; however, the license plates (located at the knees in robot mode) have been changed to read "TOO HOT".

:Rodimus Prime's weapons are the dual pistols/tonfa seen with both Mirage and Hot Rodimus, however his Kiss Player counterpart's fishing rod/eliminator and dumpling steamer weapons were not included in the Alternators release. They left [[Shaoshao Li|the girl]] out too.

: Nemesis Prime is a redeco of ''[[Transformers: Classics|Classics]]'' Optimus Prime, transforming into a modern cab-over style truck of made up model, dominated by a large aero fairing on his roof. Premiering as San Diego Comic-Con 2008 [[exclusive]], it later saw wider release via [[Hasbro Toy Shop]] as part of the Classics Series of the 2008 ''[[Transformers: Universe (2008 franchise)|Universe]]'' toyline. He was not designed to pull a trailer, and subsequently does not come with one. The figure largely follows the same paint application map as the original figure, with some minor omissions as well as new paint applications. As well, it features metallic purple and silver [[tampograph]]s of the Decepticon symbol on its forearm and shoulder, as well as red paint blocking the [[light-piping]] feature in the figure's head.

:In robot mode, his aero fairing transforms into a large "Disruptor Cannon", and his smokestacks transform into a smaller "Stellar Converter Cannon". Additionally, both can combine together to form a back-mounted shoulder weapon.
: Matrix of Leadership Optimus Prime is an [[exclusive]] to San Diego Comic-Con 2011. The toy comes in a packaging shaped like the [[Matrix of Leadership/toys|Matrix of Leadership]], which the owner can wear around his neck, preferably at the convention itself, so passers-by can exclaim "WHERE THE HELL DID YOU GET THAT?" and then try to get one themselves.
: The toy itself is an early release of the Deluxe Class Optimus Prime toy from the later "Entertainment Pack" set. :On [[July 22]], [[2013]], Harmony Gold, owner of the rights to the Robotech franchise and U.S. claimant to the ''Macross'' rights, [http://www.courthousenews.com/2013/07/23/Transformers.pdf filed a copyright infringement suit against Hasbro]. In the filing, Harmony Gold argued that the release somehow infringed upon the intellectual property of the Veritech, but noted that "damages are difficult to ascertain". They demanded that Hasbro recall all Jetfires that had been sold, that all Jetfires (including the recalled ones) be either destroyed or handed over to Harmony Gold, and that Hasbro turn over all profits relating to the sales; this was to happen in addition to payment for all actual damages to Harmony Gold (despite Harmony Gold itself not knowing how much the actual damages were) and all punitive assessments assigned against Hasbro.

Although confirmation of a settlement, much less details, have not been revealed, the fact that the case was dismissed ''with prejudice'' means that Harmony Gold cannot sue over the Jetfire issue again. By early October, the set was made available on [[Hasbro Toy Shop]], though the set sold out quickly.
He has pointedly and repeatedly refused to ''explain'' the joke, so its meaning remains a mystery. However, an explanation of sorts was offered at [[BotCon 2008]]: The marking evidently originates from an incident at the San Diego Comic Con involving an unfortunate mix of Hasbro employees, alcohol, and a construction crane. Whatever happened, apparently the [[wikipedia:Petco Park|Petco Park]] stadium was nearly not built because of it. Yowza. (How the 74 relates to this, exactly, remains uncertain.)

Blaster is technically a slight [[redeco]], having metal-flake beige legs instead of metallic-swirl silver.

:This set was also made available at the Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong Fair 2010, and was later released on the [[Hasbro Toy Shop]] and then also sold at FanExpo Canada 2010.
Prowl was originally meant to be released in the fourth wave of Mighty Muggs Transformers, but the Transformers section of the toyline was canceled before the wave was released. **''Accessories:'' Gun, magnet, dignity-removing wearable Matrix packaging

The Matrix itself comes packaged in a box that is designed to look like Optimus Prime's chest, and opens accordingly. The chest window doors are sealed with a round magnet.

: The toy itself is an early release of the Deluxe Class Optimus Prime toy from the later "Entertainment Pack" set. There are some deco differences between this release and the later retail release; this version has gray windows instead of blue and is missing some of the silver deco on the helmet and roof/feet, as well as the yellow paint on his lights. His midriff is also darker.
He comes with two Dark Energon accessories; a long shard of the stuff, and a shorter, more rubbery one ending in an "energy splash" that can grasp around the edges of his chest to represent, well, him being stabbed with Dark Energon to bring him back to "life."

:Subsequently, an order was filed on September 23rd, 2013, to [http://generalsjoes.com/2013/10/10/hasbro-and-harmony-gold-reportedly-settle-lawsuit-over-sdcc-exclusive-jetfire/ dismiss the case with prejudice], implying that Harmony Gold and Hasbro have reached a settlement.

: He was initially sold [[exclusive]]ly at San Diego Comic-Con 2006 and for a limited time at Hasbro Toy Shop, selling out roughly an hour after its 2pm sales debut. Prior to that, he was released in large quantities at regular retail in various Asian countries, becoming a [[shelfwarmer]] there, ironically.

The set also comes with a redecoed [[VAMP]] representing [[Hound (G1)|Hound]], a new [[Snake-Eyes]] figure bearing an Autobot symbol, a [[Baroness]] figure with [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]] on a leash, a [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] boombox with cassette pieces representing [[Steeljaw (G1)|Steeljaw]], [[Ramhorn (G1)|Ramhorn]], and [[Eject (G1)|Eject]], and a "samurai robot warrior" based on [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]].
:The box set was announced via a ''USA Today'' [http://www.usatoday.com/picture-gallery/life/2013/06/05/hasbro-2013-comic-con-exclusives/2392295/ article] on June 5, 2013, along with Hasbro's other Comic-Con exclusives.

[[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]], [[Ravage (G1)/toys|Ravage]] and [[Buzzsaw (G1)|Buzzsaw]], which are impractical to turn into Kreons, are included among the plethora of random accessories, which includes stuff like a Rubik's Cube, a syringe and a mullet for Sunstreaker. Whew!
* The "'''S.D. 74'''" on the [[Hasbro]] version of the ''[[Transformers: Armada (franchise)|Armada]]'' [[Smokescreen (Armada)|Hoist]] mold is an in-joke, according to [[Aaron Archer]].
'''Shogo Hasui''' (蓮井 章悟 ''Hasui Shōgo'') is a designer at [[TakaraTomy]], joining the company in 1999. Since ''[[Transformers: Armada (franchise)|Armada]]'', he has called "dibs" to design every [[Starscream (disambiguation)|Starscream]] toy,<ref>TakaraTomy designer interview in ''Transformers Generations 2009 Volume 1''</ref> and is thus referred to as "Mr. Starscream" within Takara's ''Transformers'' design team.

Like several Takara designers that have been interviewed, he bemoans [[Hasbro]]'s restrictive [[size class]] plastic weight limits, which can cause headaches during design.
Hasui was among the Transformer toy designers present at the [[Transformers Celebration 2014]], where they handed out autographs. He impressed the beast-mode-loving [[Rattrap (BW)|Rattrap]] by telling him he once designed a three-headed beast toy called [[Bruticus (RID)|Bruticus]]. {{storylink|Legends Bonus Vol.}} At some point, Hasui was riding the train with [[Hisashi Yuki]] when the two were taken aback by Rattrap's new robot body. {{storylink|Legends Comic: Bonus Edition Vol. 1|Bonus Edition Vol. 1}}
==Notes==
*During pre-production of ''[[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (film)|Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen]]'', Hasui created a combiner concept model (made from various Japanese robot and superhero toys) and storyboard-style concepts for a movie-styled "Devastator" combiner (involving a MH-53 Pave Low helicopter, such as [[Blackout (Movie)|Blackout]] and [[Grindor (ROTF)|Grindor]]) for Hasbro to pass onto the movie production staff.<ref name="Generations 3">TakaraTomy designer interview in ''Transformers Generations 2009 Volume 3''</ref>
*Hasui was the original TakaraTomy designer assigned to ''Revenge of the Fallen'' Combiner class [[Devastator (ROTF)|Constructicon Devastator]] (and had completed some preliminary sketches for it), but due to scheduling conflicts, that project was handed over to fellow TakaraTomy designer [[Takio Ejima]].<ref name="Generations 3"/>
*Due to the enormous workload the TakaraTomy designers were under, Hasui was by default the one assigned to present a proof-of-concept prototype for ''Revenge of the Fallen''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s [[Human Alliance]] subset of ''[[Transformers: Alternators|Alternators]]''-styled larger vehicles partnered with [[human]] drivers. He rapidly created the proof-of-concept model using a Voyager class [[Ratchet (Movie)/toys|Ratchet]] toy with a new shoulder (that turned into a seat for the human passenger in either mode), a new left forearm (which turned into a motorcycle) and a new gigantic weapons array.<ref name="Generations 3"/>
