'''Unicron''' is the eternal arch-enemy of his twin brother [[Primus]]. Also known as the [[Lord of Chaos]], the Chaos Bringer, and the Planet Eater, he is dedicated to consuming the [[multiverse]]. His massive form is powered by the consumption of planets, moons, stars, and even the very fabric of existence. Unicron will not be sated until his ultimate goal is attained: to bring an end to the annoying creation boasting independence around him, and find peace by becoming the living center of a [[Void|swirling, infinite torrent of nothingness]] at the end of all things.

The only thing that he fears is Primus's essence, contained inside the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]]. To a being of chaos and uncreation, this font of life is a poison.

Frequently, Unicron will make deals with [[Herald of Unicron|lesser beings]], promising them vast new powers in exchange for their servitude. These minions are [[Thunderwing (G1)|sometimes]] stripped entirely of their free will, but [[Sideways (Armada)|others]] follow him willingly. Service to Unicron, however, is a double-edged sword, for it causes insanity and loss of self. And in the end, Unicron's plans ultimately call for their consumption as well.

==In the beginning==

Before the dawn of time, Order and Chaos existed within an extra-dimensional entity known as [[The One]]. To explore the fledgling universe, he created the astral being known as Unicron, and then subdivided him, creating his twin, Primus. Both brothers were [[Multiversal singularity|multiversal singularities]], unique in all realities, but whereas Unicron could only exist in one universe at a time, moving between them at will, Primus existed simultaneously in all realities at once. It is suggested, in fact, that the two brothers embody the basic concepts of reality—good and evil, order and chaos—and that their continued existence is necessary for the stability of the multiverse.

As Unicron and Primus went about their appointed task, venturing through the cosmos, it became apparent to Primus that Unicron was a corrupt being, and he took it upon himself to stop the threat posed to all of existence by his sibling. In combat, Primus was no match for Unicron. In cunning, however, he proved himself to be his brother's superior when he shifted their battle to the astral plane, and then back to the physical world once more, only to have both their essences manifest within metallic planetoids, leaving them both trapped. It was with this act of sacrifice that Primus hoped to contain Unicron's evil forever. Unfortunately for him, over time, Unicron learned to psionically shape his prison into a giant metallic planet, and Primus followed suit, becoming the mechanical world of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. When Unicron then learned to transform his planetary form even further, into a gigantic robot form, Primus adapted the idea to suit his own ends, creating a group of [[Thirteen|thirteen robots]] that possessed the ability to change shape, like Unicron.

The war between Unicron and Primus came to its seeming end during a climactic battle in which one of the Thirteen, who would forever afterwards be known as [[The Fallen]], betrayed Primus and became an acolyte of Unicron. The battle ended when the Fallen and Unicron were sucked into a black hole and disappeared from reality. With Unicron gone for now, Primus entered an eons-long slumber, his self-imposed sleep preventing Unicron from detecting him through the mental link the brothers shared.

===Evolution of the Primus/Unicron myth===
The Primus/Unicron backstory has evolved and been rewritten a good number of times since it first originated in the [[Marvel Comics]] series. The version recounted above is the current iteration, which has slowly solidified across a wide swath of media (beginning around the time of ''[[Transformers: Armada (franchise)|Armada]]''). Before the Primus/Unicron mythos reached its present form it went through several distinct versions in the Marvel Generation 1 comics and elsewhere.

====Unicron's story====
The first time the Primus/Unicron backstory appeared was in the UK comic continuity, from Unicron himself, in the story "[[The Legacy of Unicron!]]", when he recounted it to [[Death's Head (G1)|Death's Head]]. Per Unicron's telling of events, he was a primal force of evil at the dawn of the universe, who led a legion of [[Dark God]]s against his mortal foe, Primus, Lord of the [[Light God]]s. Events proceeded to play out basically as described above, though the role of the Light and Dark Gods would diminish with each subsequent retelling of the story, until the current version, in which Primus and Unicron are alone, and have a unique origin.

====The Keeper's story====
The second time the story was told was in the United States book by the [[Keeper (Transformer)|Keeper]], an ancient mechanoid who guarded Primus's head at the center of Cybertron. This telling is effectively the same as the previous UK story, but mentions that their battle was towards the end of the era of gods, that Primus and Unicron were the last of their respective pantheons, and Primus had to defeat Unicron before he could take his place with the other gods in the "[[Omniversal Matrix]]".

====Primus's story====
The third time the story was told was also in the United States Marvel series, this time by Primus, when he gathered all his children together to prepare for Unicron's coming. It was with this telling that we learned that Unicron predated the [[universe (universe)|current universe]], and had destroyed the [[old realms|previous universe]] which existed before the current one. He had slept peacefully, alone in the [[void]] of un-creation that remained, until fragments of the old universe that he had overlooked reacted, causing the Big Bang and birthing the current universe. The "sentient core" of this new universe recognized the threat that Unicron posed, and so created Primus to counter his evil and be guardian of the new creation.

====Fleer and DK====
The first modern retelling of the origins of Primus and Unicron did not come from Generation 1-oriented media, but from a set of ''[[Transformers: Armada (franchise)|Armada]]'' trading cards released by Fleer. It was the backstory printed on Unicron's card which introduced the concept of the two being brothers created to explore the new universe by an extra-dimensional entity, here named the "[[Transformer afterlife|Allspark]]".''

This was subsequently expanded on and combined with aspects of the various Marvel Comics stories in ''[[Transformers: The Ultimate Guide]]'', published by Dorling Kindersley and written by [[Simon Furman]], who had written all three prior tellings in the first place. Here, the entity Fleer had called the "Allspark" was redubbed "[[The One]]", and the modern iteration of the myth detailed above was firmly established, and went on to form the backbone of subsequent fiction such as ''[[Transformers: Universe (2003 franchise)|Universe]]'' and [[Fun Publications]]' ''[[Transformers: Cybertron (franchise)|Cybertron]]'' comics.

==Fun Publications==
Since time immemorial, the [[Thirteen]], children of [[Primus]], fought Unicron. In the [[Primax]] universal cluster, Unicron had many incarnations, all often attacking [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] at some point and being destroyed by the [[Transformer]]s that lived there. He also would repeatedly serve as a Faustian devil; making deals with lesser lifeforms in return for servitude. Among his most famous of those was [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], who would often be reformatted into the powerful [[Decepticon]] known as [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]].

===Ask Vector Prime===
The Unicron of [[Viron 704.08 Gamma]] began life as a tyrant and a conqueror on [[Planet X (Cybertron)|Planet X]]. Originally possessing a destroyer tank configuration, Unicron united his planet, and eventually he utilized a mystical [[Cyber Key]] to merge his consciousness with it. Unicron proceeded to begin to consume this reality before [[Omega Prime]] and [[Fortress Maximus (RID)|Fortress Maximus]] stopped him.

Dimensional observer [[Vector Prime]] wasn't sure if it was merely [[Trans-Dimensional Harmonic Resonance|trans-dimensional harmonic resonance]] which had caused Unicron's actions or if something greater was behind it all. {{storylink|Ask Vector Prime#Facebook|Ask Vector Prime, 2015/07/28}}

==Unicron Trilogy continuity family==
In the [[Aurex]] universal cluster, Unicron often played a notable role in Cybertronian history. The Transformers were unaware of Unicron's gradual approach during the climax of their civil war. [[Megatron (Armada)|Galvatron]] was defeated and imprisoned, and just when he had escaped, the Planet-Eater suddenly appeared over their planet. Only time would tell if the Transformers could possibly defeat him! {{storylink|Armada Volume 4}}

The nearly-dead body of [[Primax 703.09 Gamma|a ravaged universe]]'s [[Optimus Prime (G1)#Dreamwave Armada comic|Optimus Prime]] was sent ahead by Unicron to his [[Aurex 402.24 Gamma|next target universe]], as a "calling card". Additionally, Unicron sent a group of heralds—incarnations of [[Bludgeon (G1)#Dreamwave Armada continuity|Bludgeon]], [[Dirge (G1)#Dreamwave Armada continuity|Dirge]], [[Galvatron (G1)#Dreamwave Armada contoinuity|Galvatron]], [[Scourge (G1)#Dreamwave Armada continuity|Scourge]], and [[Thunderwing (G1)#Dreamwave Armada continuity|Thunderwing]]—to this second universe to find the [[Mini-Con Matrix]] and kill that universe's Optimus Prime and Megatron. The heralds did not realize that their target Optimus Prime had been accidentally transported to the initial, dying Cybertron. {{storylink|Worlds Collide, Part 1 of 4}}

Optimus Prime found one lone survivor, [[Spinister (G1)#Dreamwave Armada comic|Spinister]], and begged him to tell him what was going on. Spinister told him that the "heart of darkness, the root of all evil" had ravaged their world. {{storylink|Worlds Collide, Part 2 of 4}} {{storylink|Worlds Collide, Part 3 of 4}} When Unicron loomed over them, Spinister surrendered himself to his fate. Spinister soon returned as an avatar for Unicron, who found this Optimus Prime's presence to be an "anomaly". Soon [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] managed to trace Optimus Prime to this dying universe and travel there to rescue him. Using the power of the Mini-Con Matrix, Prime and Jetfire were able to combine into Jet Optimus and fire a powerful shot into the heart of Unicron. Though they were too late to save this Cybertron, they could return home and prepare for Unicron's coming there. {{storylink|Worlds Collide, Part 4 of 4}}

Optimus Prime called for an alliance with the Decepticons and the Mini-Cons, hoping to unite their forces against the coming Dark god. After warping to Cybertron's surface, Unicron himself arrived, and announced that they would all soon be consumed. During the following battle, Unicron was curious about the Transformers [[Airazor (Armada)|Airazor]], [[Cheetor (Armada)|Cheetor]], [[Rhinox (Armada)|Rhinox]], and [[Terrorsaur (Armada)|Terrorsaur]], and abducted them for future purposes. Unicron was ultimately defeated by the Mini-Con Matrix, boosted from the additional power of two universes' Mini-Cons. This universe's [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]], having made a bid for Unicron's power, was standing on the surface of the planet-eater when he was destroyed, and his body was also lost, his spark trapped within Unicron's remains. {{storylink|The End}}

Ten years later, his broken body was still left floating in space after his defeat. Despite his damaged form, his [[Unicron's core|core]] presented huge potentials for power, and so [[Alpha Quintesson]] gathered together a group of Decepticon dissidents under the leadership of [[Scorponok (Energon)|Scorponok]] and transformed them into "[[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcons]]". He promised these Terrorcons this power in exchange for their services. {{storylink|This Evil Reborn}} Meanwhile, Megatron's consciousness was trapped within this core, and over time was able to use Unicron's systems to create for himself a new body, though he was unable to transfer his spark into it. {{storylink|What Lies Beneath, Part Three}}

Alpha Quintesson was secretly working for Unicron himself, and he sent the corrupted forms of Airazor, Cheetor, Rhinox, and Terrorsaur, his "[[Unicron's Four Horsemen|Four Horsemen]]", to Cybertron to distract the Autobots from Unicron's revival. {{storylink|This Evil Reborn}}

Optimus Prime, who received a telepathic message from the disembodied Megatron, turned to the [[Autobot High Council]] for permission to dedicate an army towards Unicron's return and his intent to consume alleged huge amounts of [[energon]] on Earth, but the Council dismissed these concerns as paranoia. While they did not grant Prime his army, they did permit him to travel to Earth alone. Before Prime could get out of the building, Unicron's Horsemen struck. Prime and the Council realized this was an act of war perpetrated by Unicron, and so Prime's original pleas were finally heard. {{storylink|What Lies Beneath}}

After they were defeated by Optimus Prime on Earth, Scorponok and his Terrorcons were forcibly brought back to Unicron's for disciplinary action by Alpha Quintesson. {{storylink|What Lies Beneath, Part Four}} Afterwards, Optimus Prime stepped through a portal back to Cybertron to assemble a team of reinforcements... but instead found himself brought to within Unicron, summoned by Megatron's consciousness. {{storylink|Omni-Potent}} Optimus Prime argued with Megatron, denying that he would ever help his thought-dead foe inhabit his new body. Megatron countered with images of a massive-scale Terrorcon attack on Earth. Alpha Quintesson had used Unicron's power to reconfigure [[Tidal Wave (Armada)|Tidal Wave]] into Mirage, and [[Moscow]], [[Toronto]], and [[Los Angeles]] were under heavy siege from his Terrorcon army. Still, Optimus Prime resisted helping Megatron, even with the promise of teaming up to destroy the remnants of Unicron, as he feared releasing Megatron in his new body would be unleashing an equal evil. {{storylink|Multiplicity}}

Finally, after images of carnage on Earth overwhelmed him, Optimus Prime caved to Megatron's demands, and Prime began traveling through Unicron under Megatron's direction. After falling in some goo, Prime located the sensor array that was keeping Megatron's consciousness from entering his new body. It worked, and Megatron was freed... though Optimus Prime was subsequently located by Unicron's internal defenses. {{storylink|Multiplicity, Pt. 2}} But through sheer force of will, Optimus broke through Unicron's immune system, and managed to allow Megatron access to his new body. {{storylink|Multiplicity, Pt. 3}} Optimus was last seen having defeated the remnants of Unicron's antibodies, with a bandolier and his hand-held cannon. He boasted to Unicron that he was coming for him. {{storylink|No Exit}}

Previously, Unicron had destroyed [[Quintessa]], and [[Alpha Quintesson]] was the sole survivor. With the [[Initiator]], Alpha attempted to escape Unicron, only for his ship to be pulled to the planet eater. {{storylink|Doomsday Redux!}} The energon used for Unicron's reactivation came not from Earth, but from [[Nervissa]], a fact Optimus Prime discovered after connecting to Unicron's consciousness. {{storylink|Armageddon Part 1}} Alpha Quintesson sought to destroy Unicron and had a [[seismic-shock warhead]] teleported to Unicron. {{storylink|Armageddon Part 2}} Within Unicron, Optimus gambled that he would need to make contact with Cybertron if he had any chance of escaping the malevolent planet. He ascended to Unicron's surface, only to come upon the warhead, right after it had been teleported in. {{storylink|Armageddon Part 3}} In the later chaos of an alternate-universe [[Quintesson]] invasion of Cybertron, Unicron awoke and began to strike out against the Transformers. HIs first target was Megatron, who had teleported back to within his body to confront Alpha Trion. {{storylink|Armageddon Part 4}} Realizing that their planet was open to Unicron's attack, the Quintessons attacked Unicron, to no avail. The Quintessons were destroyed, and the Transformers managed to delay Unicron enough for the warhead to explode, destroying the planet. The shockwaves from Unicron's destruction created a [[Unicron Singularity|black hole]] from the portal to the alternate-universe Quintessa. {{storylink|Armageddon Part 5}}

Unicron was evidently very active in this universe at various points in time, although the precise chronological order of his activities is unclear.

At some undetermined point in the past of this universe, Unicron was approached by the survivors of [[Planet X (Cybertron)|Planet X]], a world that had been destroyed in a war with the inhabitants of the Giant Planet, [[Gigantion]]. In return for the chance to gain revenge on Gigantion, the survivors swore loyalty to Unicron, and "Planet X" became something of a code-phrase that identified those in the service of the planet-eater.

Unicron's first attack on Cybertron was over a million years in the making, begun when he opted to disguise his dormant body as Cybertron's moon. From this secret vantage point, he implanted his own cells within the planet, where they germinated and grew into the small race of robots known as the [[Mini-Con]]s. Unicron hoped to use the Mini-Cons to increase the ferocity of the Autobot/Decepticon war, and feed off of the energies released in the conflict. The Cybertronians would then be subjugated through the Mini-Cons' influence. Though his plan succeeded in one timeline, the interference of three time-displaced children changed this. [[Rad White]], [[Carlos Lopez]], and [[Alexis Thi Dang]] planted the seed of sentience and free will within the Mini-Cons, who ultimately rebelled against their creator and fled Cybertron, crash-landing on the planet Earth. When the Mini-Cons were reawakened a million years later in 2010, they were detected by the Autobots and Decepticons, who followed their signal to Earth. {{storylink|First Encounter}} Unicron also picked up the signal, and dispatched his minion [[Sideways (Armada)|Sideways]] to carry on his work. {{storylink|Gale}} Rad, Alexis, and Carlos encountered a digital manifestation of Unicron when Sideways transported them to a digital world, in a bid to steal the [[Street Action Mini-Con Team]] from them. Unicron's avatar gave chase to the children as they fled back into the physical realm, but was unable to catch them in time. {{storylink|Chase (episode)|Chase}} Sideways then continued to escalate the conflict by manipulating control of the three Mini-Con weapons, the [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber]], the [[Skyboom (Armada)|Skyboom]] shield and the [[Requiem Blaster (Armada)|Requiem Blaster]], but eventually arranged for all three to be returned to Cybertron, where he stole them and used them to reawaken Unicron. {{storylink|Portent}} While still awakening, Unicron sent an energy bolt down at Starscream, who had fired a powerful blast at the Dark God to convince Galvatron of his threat. Shedding his moon disguise and transforming to robot mode, Unicron turned on Cybertron, only to be met with resistance in the form of the united armada of Autobots and Decepticons {{storylink|Alliance}}, and his own Mini-Cons, who had linked together and formed a [[Unicron of Light|giant duplicate]] of his body. {{storylink|Union}} Now at full power, however, it was child's play for Unicron to exert control over his creations, and bring the Mini-Cons under his thumb once more. Again, it was thanks to the Autobots' human allies—the same children who had been sent back in time and given the Mini-Cons free will in the first place—that the Mini-Cons struggled free of Unicron's control, including the three Mini-Con weapons, who broke free and left Unicron's body deactivated. {{storylink|Origin}} Believing the threat over, [[Megatron (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Galvatron]] then challenged Optimus Prime to their final battle, only for the hatred and ferocity of their fight to awaken Unicron once more. While traversing the [[Linkage (dimension)|Linkage]] dimension, [[Redline]] noticed an ominous presence watching him. {{storylink|Linkage Part 7}} Redline recognized it as "The Terrible One" and relayed that info to [[Servo (MD)|Servo]], who then relayed it to [[Rollbar (Armada)|Rollbar]]. Meanwhile, [[Sideways (Armada)|Sideways]], a minion of Unicron, gave the [[Speed Chaser Team]], also minions of Unicron, the [[Doomstone]], an artifact intended to permanently enslave the Mini-Cons to Unicron's will. {{storylink|Linkage Part 8}}

To escape Megatron's fury, Alpha Q jettisoned Unicron's head and escaped in it, {{storylink|Megatron Resurrected}} while Megatron took over Unicron's body, and continued to gather Energon in order to rebuild Unicron to use as his ultimate weapon. {{storylink|Megatron Raid}} Both parts of Unicron's inert form were used by Megatron and Alpha Q as their bases from then on. ==In the beginning==

Before the dawn of time, Order and Chaos existed within an extra-dimensional entity known as [[The One]]. To explore the fledgling universe, he created the astral being known as Unicron, and then subdivided him, creating his twin, Primus. Both brothers were [[Multiversal singularity|multiversal singularities]], unique in all realities, but whereas Unicron could only exist in one universe at a time, moving between them at will, Primus existed simultaneously in all realities at once. It is suggested, in fact, that the two brothers embody the basic concepts of reality—good and evil, order and chaos—and that their continued existence is necessary for the stability of the multiverse.

As Unicron and Primus went about their appointed task, venturing through the cosmos, it became apparent to Primus that Unicron was a corrupt being, and he took it upon himself to stop the threat posed to all of existence by his sibling. In combat, Primus was no match for Unicron. In cunning, however, he proved himself to be his brother's superior when he shifted their battle to the astral plane, and then back to the physical world once more, only to have both their essences manifest within metallic planetoids, leaving them both trapped. It was with this act of sacrifice that Primus hoped to contain Unicron's evil forever. Unfortunately for him, over time, Unicron learned to psionically shape his prison into a giant metallic planet, and Primus followed suit, becoming the mechanical world of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. When Unicron then learned to transform his planetary form even further, into a gigantic robot form, Primus adapted the idea to suit his own ends, creating a group of [[Thirteen|thirteen robots]] that possessed the ability to change shape, like Unicron.

The war between Unicron and Primus came to its seeming end during a climactic battle in which one of the Thirteen, who would forever afterwards be known as [[The Fallen]], betrayed Primus and became an acolyte of Unicron. The battle ended when the Fallen and Unicron were sucked into a black hole and disappeared from reality. With Unicron gone for now, Primus entered an eons-long slumber, his self-imposed sleep preventing Unicron from detecting him through the mental link the brothers shared.

===Evolution of the Primus/Unicron myth===
The Primus/Unicron backstory has evolved and been rewritten a good number of times since it first originated in the [[Marvel Comics]] series. The version recounted above is the current iteration, which has slowly solidified across a wide swath of media (beginning around the time of ''[[Transformers: Armada (franchise)|Armada]]''). Before the Primus/Unicron mythos reached its present form it went through several distinct versions in the Marvel Generation 1 comics and elsewhere.

====Unicron's story====
The first time the Primus/Unicron backstory appeared was in the UK comic continuity, from Unicron himself, in the story "[[The Legacy of Unicron!]]", when he recounted it to [[Death's Head (G1)|Death's Head]]. Per Unicron's telling of events, he was a primal force of evil at the dawn of the universe, who led a legion of [[Dark God]]s against his mortal foe, Primus, Lord of the [[Light God]]s. Events proceeded to play out basically as described above, though the role of the Light and Dark Gods would diminish with each subsequent retelling of the story, until the current version, in which Primus and Unicron are alone, and have a unique origin.

====The Keeper's story====
The second time the story was told was in the United States book by the [[Keeper (Transformer)|Keeper]], an ancient mechanoid who guarded Primus's head at the center of Cybertron. This telling is effectively the same as the previous UK story, but mentions that their battle was towards the end of the era of gods, that Primus and Unicron were the last of their respective pantheons, and Primus had to defeat Unicron before he could take his place with the other gods in the "[[Omniversal Matrix]]".

====Primus's story====
The third time the story was told was also in the United States Marvel series, this time by Primus, when he gathered all his children together to prepare for Unicron's coming. It was with this telling that we learned that Unicron predated the [[universe (universe)|current universe]], and had destroyed the [[old realms|previous universe]] which existed before the current one. He had slept peacefully, alone in the [[void]] of un-creation that remained, until fragments of the old universe that he had overlooked reacted, causing the Big Bang and birthing the current universe. The "sentient core" of this new universe recognized the threat that Unicron posed, and so created Primus to counter his evil and be guardian of the new creation.

====Fleer and DK====
The first modern retelling of the origins of Primus and Unicron did not come from Generation 1-oriented media, but from a set of ''[[Transformers: Armada (franchise)|Armada]]'' trading cards released by Fleer. It was the backstory printed on Unicron's card which introduced the concept of the two being brothers created to explore the new universe by an extra-dimensional entity, here named the "[[Transformer afterlife|Allspark]]".''

This was subsequently expanded on and combined with aspects of the various Marvel Comics stories in ''[[Transformers: The Ultimate Guide]]'', published by Dorling Kindersley and written by [[Simon Furman]], who had written all three prior tellings in the first place. Here, the entity Fleer had called the "Allspark" was redubbed "[[The One]]", and the modern iteration of the myth detailed above was firmly established, and went on to form the backbone of subsequent fiction such as ''[[Transformers: Universe (2003 franchise)|Universe]]'' and [[Fun Publications]]' ''[[Transformers: Cybertron (franchise)|Cybertron]]'' comics.

==Fun Publications==
Since time immemorial, the [[Thirteen]], children of [[Primus]], fought Unicron. Originally possessing a destroyer tank configuration, Unicron united his planet, and eventually he utilized a mystical [[Cyber Key]] to merge his consciousness with it. Unicron proceeded to begin to consume this reality before [[Omega Prime]] and [[Fortress Maximus (RID)|Fortress Maximus]] stopped him.

The Transformers were unaware of Unicron's gradual approach during the climax of their civil war. [[Megatron (Armada)|Galvatron]] was defeated and imprisoned, and just when he had escaped, the Planet-Eater suddenly appeared over their planet. The nearly-dead body of [[Primax 703.09 Gamma|a ravaged universe]]'s [[Optimus Prime (G1)#Dreamwave Armada comic|Optimus Prime]] was sent ahead by Unicron to his [[Aurex 402.24 Gamma|next target universe]], as a "calling card". Additionally, Unicron sent a group of heralds—incarnations of [[Bludgeon (G1)#Dreamwave Armada continuity|Bludgeon]], [[Dirge (G1)#Dreamwave Armada continuity|Dirge]], [[Galvatron (G1)#Dreamwave Armada contoinuity|Galvatron]], [[Scourge (G1)#Dreamwave Armada continuity|Scourge]], and [[Thunderwing (G1)#Dreamwave Armada continuity|Thunderwing]]—to this second universe to find the [[Mini-Con Matrix]] and kill that universe's Optimus Prime and Megatron. The heralds did not realize that their target Optimus Prime had been accidentally transported to the initial, dying Cybertron. {{storylink|Worlds Collide, Part 1 of 4}}

Optimus Prime found one lone survivor, [[Spinister (G1)#Dreamwave Armada comic|Spinister]], and begged him to tell him what was going on. Spinister told him that the "heart of darkness, the root of all evil" had ravaged their world. {{storylink|Worlds Collide, Part 2 of 4}} {{storylink|Worlds Collide, Part 3 of 4}} When Unicron loomed over them, Spinister surrendered himself to his fate. Spinister soon returned as an avatar for Unicron, who found this Optimus Prime's presence to be an "anomaly". Soon [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] managed to trace Optimus Prime to this dying universe and travel there to rescue him. Using the power of the Mini-Con Matrix, Prime and Jetfire were able to combine into Jet Optimus and fire a powerful shot into the heart of Unicron. Though they were too late to save this Cybertron, they could return home and prepare for Unicron's coming there. {{storylink|Worlds Collide, Part 4 of 4}}

Optimus Prime called for an alliance with the Decepticons and the Mini-Cons, hoping to unite their forces against the coming Dark god. After warping to Cybertron's surface, Unicron himself arrived, and announced that they would all soon be consumed. During the following battle, Unicron was curious about the Transformers [[Airazor (Armada)|Airazor]], [[Cheetor (Armada)|Cheetor]], [[Rhinox (Armada)|Rhinox]], and [[Terrorsaur (Armada)|Terrorsaur]], and abducted them for future purposes. Unicron was ultimately defeated by the Mini-Con Matrix, boosted from the additional power of two universes' Mini-Cons. This universe's [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]], having made a bid for Unicron's power, was standing on the surface of the planet-eater when he was destroyed, and his body was also lost, his spark trapped within Unicron's remains. {{storylink|The End}}

Ten years later, his broken body was still left floating in space after his defeat. Despite his damaged form, his [[Unicron's core|core]] presented huge potentials for power, and so [[Alpha Quintesson]] gathered together a group of Decepticon dissidents under the leadership of [[Scorponok (Energon)|Scorponok]] and transformed them into "[[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcons]]". He promised these Terrorcons this power in exchange for their services. {{storylink|This Evil Reborn}} Meanwhile, Megatron's consciousness was trapped within this core, and over time was able to use Unicron's systems to create for himself a new body, though he was unable to transfer his spark into it. {{storylink|What Lies Beneath, Part Three}}

Alpha Quintesson was secretly working for Unicron himself, and he sent the corrupted forms of Airazor, Cheetor, Rhinox, and Terrorsaur, his "[[Unicron's Four Horsemen|Four Horsemen]]", to Cybertron to distract the Autobots from Unicron's revival. {{storylink|This Evil Reborn}}

Optimus Prime, who received a telepathic message from the disembodied Megatron, turned to the [[Autobot High Council]] for permission to dedicate an army towards Unicron's return and his intent to consume alleged huge amounts of [[energon]] on Earth, but the Council dismissed these concerns as paranoia. While they did not grant Prime his army, they did permit him to travel to Earth alone. Before Prime could get out of the building, Unicron's Horsemen struck. After they were defeated by Optimus Prime on Earth, Scorponok and his Terrorcons were forcibly brought back to Unicron's for disciplinary action by Alpha Quintesson. {{storylink|What Lies Beneath, Part Four}} Afterwards, Optimus Prime stepped through a portal back to Cybertron to assemble a team of reinforcements... but instead found himself brought to within Unicron, summoned by Megatron's consciousness. {{storylink|Omni-Potent}} Optimus Prime argued with Megatron, denying that he would ever help his thought-dead foe inhabit his new body. Megatron countered with images of a massive-scale Terrorcon attack on Earth. Alpha Quintesson had used Unicron's power to reconfigure [[Tidal Wave (Armada)|Tidal Wave]] into Mirage, and [[Moscow]], [[Toronto]], and [[Los Angeles]] were under heavy siege from his Terrorcon army. Still, Optimus Prime resisted helping Megatron, even with the promise of teaming up to destroy the remnants of Unicron, as he feared releasing Megatron in his new body would be unleashing an equal evil. {{storylink|Multiplicity}}

Finally, after images of carnage on Earth overwhelmed him, Optimus Prime caved to Megatron's demands, and Prime began traveling through Unicron under Megatron's direction. After falling in some goo, Prime located the sensor array that was keeping Megatron's consciousness from entering his new body. It worked, and Megatron was freed... though Optimus Prime was subsequently located by Unicron's internal defenses. {{storylink|Multiplicity, Pt. 2}} But through sheer force of will, Optimus broke through Unicron's immune system, and managed to allow Megatron access to his new body. {{storylink|Multiplicity, Pt. 3}} Optimus was last seen having defeated the remnants of Unicron's antibodies, with a bandolier and his hand-held cannon. Previously, Unicron had destroyed [[Quintessa]], and [[Alpha Quintesson]] was the sole survivor. With the [[Initiator]], Alpha attempted to escape Unicron, only for his ship to be pulled to the planet eater. {{storylink|Doomsday Redux!}} The energon used for Unicron's reactivation came not from Earth, but from [[Nervissa]], a fact Optimus Prime discovered after connecting to Unicron's consciousness. {{storylink|Armageddon Part 1}} Alpha Quintesson sought to destroy Unicron and had a [[seismic-shock warhead]] teleported to Unicron. {{storylink|Armageddon Part 2}} Within Unicron, Optimus gambled that he would need to make contact with Cybertron if he had any chance of escaping the malevolent planet. He ascended to Unicron's surface, only to come upon the warhead, right after it had been teleported in. {{storylink|Armageddon Part 3}} In the later chaos of an alternate-universe [[Quintesson]] invasion of Cybertron, Unicron awoke and began to strike out against the Transformers. HIs first target was Megatron, who had teleported back to within his body to confront Alpha Trion. {{storylink|Armageddon Part 4}} Realizing that their planet was open to Unicron's attack, the Quintessons attacked Unicron, to no avail. The Quintessons were destroyed, and the Transformers managed to delay Unicron enough for the warhead to explode, destroying the planet. Unicron was evidently very active in this universe at various points in time, although the precise chronological order of his activities is unclear.

At some undetermined point in the past of this universe, Unicron was approached by the survivors of [[Planet X (Cybertron)|Planet X]], a world that had been destroyed in a war with the inhabitants of the Giant Planet, [[Gigantion]]. In return for the chance to gain revenge on Gigantion, the survivors swore loyalty to Unicron, and "Planet X" became something of a code-phrase that identified those in the service of the planet-eater.

Unicron's first attack on Cybertron was over a million years in the making, begun when he opted to disguise his dormant body as Cybertron's moon. From this secret vantage point, he implanted his own cells within the planet, where they germinated and grew into the small race of robots known as the [[Mini-Con]]s. Unicron hoped to use the Mini-Cons to increase the ferocity of the Autobot/Decepticon war, and feed off of the energies released in the conflict. The Cybertronians would then be subjugated through the Mini-Cons' influence. Though his plan succeeded in one timeline, the interference of three time-displaced children changed this. [[Rad White]], [[Carlos Lopez]], and [[Alexis Thi Dang]] planted the seed of sentience and free will within the Mini-Cons, who ultimately rebelled against their creator and fled Cybertron, crash-landing on the planet Earth. Having also seen The Terrible One while in the Linkage, [[Falcia]] chose to stay with Redline and work with him on the [[Master Key]]. Meanwhile, [[Sideways (Armada)|Sideways]], a minion of Unicron, gave the [[Speed Chaser Team]], also minions of Unicron, the [[Doomstone]], an artifact intended to permanently enslave the Mini-Cons to Unicron's will. {{storylink|Linkage Part 8}}

Unbeknownst to Alpha Q, Megatron's corpse and spark remained within Unicron, and he slowly siphoned off some of the gathered Energon, allowing him to be reborn in his own new body. To escape Megatron's fury, Alpha Q jettisoned Unicron's head and escaped in it, {{storylink|Megatron Resurrected}} while Megatron took over Unicron's body, and continued to gather Energon in order to rebuild Unicron to use as his ultimate weapon. {{storylink|Megatron Raid}} Both parts of Unicron's inert form were used by Megatron and Alpha Q as their bases from then on. Though Unicron briefly lashed out towards those housed within him when he became starved with energon, he otherwise remained incapable of attacking them. {{storylink|Survival Instincts}}

With quiet, subconscious nudging, Unicron led Megatron to a massive reservoir of "[[Super Energon]]" beneath Cybertron's surface, {{storylink|Ambition}} which transformed him into Galvatron upon his first exposure. {{storylink|Wishes}} Galvatron used his newfound power to take command of Cybertron, exiling the Autobots off-world by unleashing a toxic energon gas into the atmosphere. At some point in time, a virtual copy of Unicron appeared in an Autobot "virtual training program" as a special opponent for Hot Shot and Rodimus to battle after defeating all other contenders. After the Autobots defeated the Decepticons on [[Earth]] and had secured the majority of the Mini-Cons there, Unicron made his appearance above Cybertron, intent on destroying the planet. Optimus Prime's team of Autobots and the Mini-Cons returned home via a warp gate to see the Chaos Bringer unleash a wave of destruction upon the great cities of their planet. ==Gameplay==

The game is a simple 2D platformer with the player making their way through 10 levels while under constant attack from various enemies. Killing enemies earns the player points, occasionally various power-ups such as extra defense or temporary flight, and at every 20,000 points the player is awarded with an extra life. Many of the levels are simple horizontal fields, while two are vertical and one is a frustrating labyrinth where escape depends on a very specific route through the level or else it will loop back in upon itself. At the end of each level is a boss which in almost all cases simply floats up and down on the right side of the screen while randomly firing projectiles at the player.

Ultra Magnus fights with a very short-range gun and can transform. While transforming lets him fire upwards and makes him harder to hit, it makes his forward shots arc downwards and takes away his ability to jump. Unless he's using the "B" power-up, Magnus will die from a single hit of any kind, whereas the majority of enemies require multiple hits to be destroyed.

There are also a few secrets in the game, such as special red jet enemies that appear in certain stages. If Ultra Magnus manages to kill these, [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] appears and lets him skip a few levels. Another secret is the seven hidden letters that spell out "RODIMUS" which are obtained by killing certain enemies. If the player collects all seven letters by the end of the game, they are given the option of playing through the game again, this time as [[Hot Rod|Rodimus Prime]]. Rodimus Prime has a new vehicle mode sprite but his in-play robot mode is simply a recolored Ultra Magnus and the gameplay remains exactly the same as during the Magnus run.

This game is also notorious for being extremely difficult to the point of frustration thanks to dodgy hit mechanics and sluggish control in addition to the small size of the projectiles requiring very accurate aiming, the copious amount of enemies, and the lack of color making the player unable to discern important objects from each other like an enemy shot from a mountain in the background.

Blacker than the inside of a drive shaft—that's how Jazz described the north side of Cybertron. The slang-talking operations specialist was on a recon mission to ascertain Cybertron's bleak energy reserves, and his reports were what prompted the Autobot mission to search for new sources of energy outside of their home world. Jazz served as pilot for the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] until severe asteroid turbulence knocked him from his seat. The Decepticons took advantage of the confusion and attacked, and both vessels and parties crash-landed on [[Earth]].

Four million years later, in 1984, the Autobots and Decepticons awoke reformatted to fit in on the planet. Jazz traded in his sleek Cybertronian form for an even sleeker IMSA GT Porsche 935 Turbo mode. As a lieutenant to [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]], Jazz was charged with assembling a task force to counter a Decepticon raid on an oil rig, calling the Autobots out and assembling them for battle. Jazz accompanied the first mission to the offshore oil rig, {{storylink|More than Meets the Eye, Part 1}} where his wrist-mounted grappling hook and winch came in handy saving Optimus Prime. He used the same line to stop Prime from riding the rapids at [[Sherman Dam]] {{storylink|More than Meets the Eye, Part 2}} and to pull [[Bluestreak (G1)|Bluestreak]] and [[Ironhide (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Ironhide]] from an unscheduled lake swim.

Jazz was one of the first Autobots to discover that a Decepticon "attack" on a fake rocket base set up by the Autobots was, in fact, a decoy attack by animated dummies. With the Decepticons poised to return to Cybertron with a ship full of energon cubes, Jazz made the call for volunteers to go on the dangerous mission to stop them, and joined in the battle himself. {{storylink|More than Meets the Eye, Part 3}}

Taking Spike for a ride through the city and cranking up the tunes, Jazz was the first to notice a blackout originating at a solar power plant, caused by a Decepticon incursion. Jazz joined up with Optimus Prime's strike team as they searched for the Decepticons' new [[space bridge]], battling them in a cave and somehow knocking aside a null ray blast with a stalactite. The discovery of [[Dinosaur (dinosaur)|dinosaur]] bones prompted Jazz to opine they must have been mighty ugly. When the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] were built and promptly ran amok, Jazz attempted to stop them and was later part of the "firing squad" who sealed them in a cave. During a battle at the [[Great Falls]], Jazz and the majority of the Autobot forces were captured, and only an attack by the reactivated Dinobots saved them all from termination. {{storylink|S.O.S. Jazz got to try out some "crazy new waterskis" during an attempt to defend a solar plant on the coast of [[India]], though it all turned out to be a diversion so the Decepticons could kidnap [[Sparkplug Witwicky]]. In turn, he and the other Autobots took part in a diversionary attack on Decepticon headquarters, so another team could sneak in and retrieve Sparkplug. Sparkplug was part of a Decepticon plan to enslave humans using [[hypno-chip]]s, and when the Autobots attempted to stop the Decepticons' latest scheme, they found themselves being attacked by hypnotised humans. Jazz and Trailbreaker at least got to mock the [[Seeker (body-type)|Seekers]] when the environmental conditions caused their weapons to backfire on them. They retreated back to Autobot Headquarters, Jazz using his magnet beams to start locked on Ironhide's tail. {{storylink|The Ultimate Doom, Part 2}} During later efforts to stop the Decepticons taking advantage of the wild conditions, Jazz surfed in to attack Megatron's [[sea funnel]]. Unfortunately, the Autobots crashed along with the wave, and the Decepticons escaped with the energon they'd collected. Though the Autobots were occupied for a time rebuilding Earth, they were soon able to pick up the Decepticons' trail. After being led into a quick sand trap, Jazz was able to play Laserbeak, revealing that the Decepticons were heading for [[Doctor Arkeville]]'s laboratory. As one of the faster Autobots, Jazz excelled in the charity race the Autobots organised and even provided some driving music. He was one of the first Autobots across the finish line, though they soon discovered that they were unable to transform, due to the effects of Megatron's [[Transfixatron]], which had been surreptitiously used on them during the race. Forced to a ghost town where Megatron had constructed a crushing machine, the Autobots attempted to protect Ironhide, but Jazz was simply tossed aside so that the Constructicons could get to their victim. Help soon arrived in the form of an [[anti-transfixation grenade]], and the Autobots were finally able to fight back. {{storylink|The Autobot Run}}

Jazz set out with [[Bumblebee (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Bumblebee]] one day to test out his sound system, newly souped up by Spike and Sparkplug. The deafening music was enough to disrupt a nearby cliff, prompting Jazz and his human pals to beat a hasty retreat. Returning to Autobot Headquarters, Jazz immediately came under attack by Bluestreak. Subduing his manic comrade, he and Bumblebee soon discovered that they were the only Autobots not transmutated to an evil state by a [[personality destabilizer device|personality destabilizer]] planted in the Autobots' [[recharging chamber]]. Jazz helped test out an "[[attitude exchanger]]" built by Sparkplug to restore the Autobots to their normal state, first distracting Bluestreak, and later applying exchangers to Hound and Ratchet. The theft of some experimental [[electro-cell]]s resulted in Jazz being part of an unsuccessful mission to recover them from the Decepticons. {{storylink|Traitor}} When Wheeljack demonstrated his [[Wheeljack Instant Immobilizer|Immobilizer]] by freezing a river solid, Jazz wasn't quite convinced...until he tried leaping onto the solidified water and found it harder than rock. Maybe he preferred football with the Dinobots. {{storylink|Atlantis, Arise!}} He revealed that he'd been reading up on ninjas while the Autobots guarded [[Nightbird (G1)|Nightbird]]. After the robot was stolen by the Decepticons, he promised [[Doctor Fujiyama the Famous Scientist|Doctor Fujiyama]] they'd get her back unharmed. Instead, the Autobots ended up pursuing Nightbird after she stole the [[World Energy Chip]]. He was impressed by a huge deposit of [[korlonium crystal]]s, thinking that they put his light and sound show to shame. After a battle with the Decepticons, the Autobots returned to base, only to discover that somehow they'd picked up an [[Optimus Prime clone|extra Optimus Prime]]. After a series of inconclusive tests to determine which Prime was the real deal, the Autobots returned to the crevasse, where one of the two Primes destroyed [[Starscream clone (G1)|Starscream]], finally convincing the Autobots he was the genuine article. It wasn't until he chose to pass up rescuing Spike that Jazz realised that he was the fake, and the Autobots blasted the faux Optimus into the crevasse. {{storylink|A Prime Problem}}

Jazz was part of Sunstreaker's team when they stumbled on a Decepticon installation along a river and were attacked by [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]]. After some unsuccessful attempts to engage the combiner in combat, Jazz used his sound and light show to distract the giant long enough for [[Mirage (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Mirage]] and Sunstreaker to take him down [[AT-AT|Imperial walker]] style, and the Autobots escaped. They later mounted a commando operation, attaching [[dominator disk]]s to the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicon]]s to bring Devastator under their thrall. Back at base, Jazz was repaired by [[Hook (G1)|Hook]], but during the later attack on the Decepticon position, Megatron was able to override the dominator disks. Ultimately, the Autobots succeeded in destroying Megatron's drill and saving the Earth, so it wasn't a total loss. {{storylink|The Core}}

Jazz took part in attempting to defend the [[Nova Power Plant]] against the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]], and he was impressed by [[Inferno (G1)|Inferno]]'s sharpshooting. He rescued some pilots who were trapped in a crashed helicopter and helped pull [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] out from under a destroyed tower, helping Wheeljack to climb into Prime's trailer for the trip back to base. He later took part in the attempt to defend the [[Iron Mountain]] military base, and he was the only Autobot with the sense to take cover when [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]] exploded. {{storylink|The Insecticon Syndrome}}

Jazz took part in [[Autobot Day]], a celebration which quickly turned sour when incriminating footage of the Autobots was broadcast. A [[cybertonium]] deficiency later caused the Autobots to start malfunctioning—starting with Jazz having trouble transforming. Then his sound and light show went on the fritz, and he was blasted by [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]]. He helped free [[Titan (species)|the locals]] from subjugation by Decepticons pretending to be gods and appeared particularly horrified at the Decepticons' use of religious enslavement. After intercepting the Stunticons during another of Megatron's plans, a group of Autobots disguised themselves as the Decepticon team in order to find out what was going on. They were even able to take the ruse as far as merging into [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]], though when the deception was eventually uncovered, they found themselves battling the real thing. By 2005, those dang Decepti-jerks had overtaken all of Cybertron, forcing the Autobots to operate on [[Moonbase One]], [[Moonbase Two]] and [[Autobot City (G1)|Autobot City]] on Earth. Though most of the Autobots' senior command staff were killed as a result of the Decepticons' [[Battle of Autobot City|attack on the city]], Jazz remained on Moonbase One, where he and Cliffjumper survived. Bad news was, the ginormous [[Unicron]] arrived and unceremoniously began devouring the entire moon, base and all. Jazz and Cliffjumper's attempt to escape in a shuttle failed, and they were sucked into the monster's maw. Winding up on a deadly conveyor belt in Unicron's depths, Jazz, Cliffjumper, Spike, and Bumblebee were all spared when Spike's son [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] saved them from being dropped in an acid pit. Jazz and the Autobots returned to their headquarters, but soon had to depart for battle once again when the Stunticons came a-knocking. Despite his best efforts, Jazz couldn't get Wheeljack and Ratchet to shush during Optimus Prime's speech. Three days later, when the Decepticons staged an attempt to take the ''Trigger'' for themselves, Jazz joined a team of Autobots in rescuing the ''Trigger''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s human crew and fending the villains off. {{storylink|First Contact (Star Gate)|First Contact}}

Several months later, once the ''Trigger'' had been repaired, the Decepticons predictably made another play for it, and Jazz was once again present to fight them off. Jazz was stationed on Earth at the time, but was lucky enough to avoid contamination. Many of his fellow Autobots were not so lucky, but were saved and made battle-ready again by an alliance with the [[Earth Defense Command]] that led to the foundation of the [[Binaltech Project]] and the construction of brand new powerful bodies for the fallen warriors. {{storylink|Story of Binaltech, Chapter 1}}

To counteract the Autobots' new strength, the Decepticons, with the aid of [[Doctor Arkeville]] and the human cabal known as the [[Concurrence]], infiltrated the Binaltech Project and began co-opting Binaltech bodies for their own soldiers. {{storylink|Arise! Evil Binaltechs}} When their actions were uncovered, a wave of mistrust and suspicion threatened to tear the Autobot-E.D.C. alliance apart. In order to corral the situation and weed out any traitors in the system, "[[Operation: Carwash (operation)|Operation: Carwash]]" was put together, headed up by [[Flint (G.I. Joe)|D.R. Faireborn]] and Jazz. Given the dangerous situations the upcoming undercover work was going to place him in, Jazz agreed to upgrade himself into a Binaltech body equipped with the [[Genetronic Translink System]], which would allow him to control multiple bodies at once. One of these bodies was a red version of himself, outfitted with a learning A.I. system based on Jazz's personality, which Jazz decided to nickname "[[Zoom-Zoom]]". {{storylink|Operation: Carwash}} Together, the team discovered that there were no true traitors: the moles in the system were unfortunate victims of Arkeville's mind-controlling [[hypno-chip]] technology. {{storylink|Expose All of Evil's Designs!}}

He expressed hope that with the Decepticons perished in the explosion, they'd be able to return to Cybertron, but his optimism was quashed a few moments later when their foe emerged, functional and with more energy to fuel their [[Victory (G1)|new star cruiser]]. While guarding Ravage, Mirage gave Hound the idea to spring a trap on the Decepticons using a holographic rocket base. Unfortunately the Decepticons saw through the plan and raided the real rocket base, attaining the rest of the energy they needed. During the final Autobot operation to try and prevent the launch of the Decepticon cruiser, Mirage used his cloaking ability to sneak aboard. While the Decepticons were squabbling, he uncloaked and opened fire, blasting away at the ship's controls. After [[Chip Chase]] was kidnapped by the Decepticons who were after the antimatter formula the boy had memorised, Hound and Mirage utilised their respective powers to sneak into the antimatter laboratory. After tangling with an [[Alligaticon]], they found Prime... in pieces. The spotlight shone on Mirage again when [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]] suspected him of disloyalty. The discovery of a Decepticon installation in a sector Mirage had recently scouted caused Cliffjumper to leap the incorrect conclusion that Mirage had concealed the information and was a traitor to the Autobots. During a battle with the Decepticons at the site, Mirage was injured, but managed to rip a Decepticon [[Insignia|seal]] off [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]]. Mirage risked the trust of his comrades by sneaking away to perform a plan of his own, framing the Decepticons for stealing [[Energon cube]]s from the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]]. Spotted carrying the cubes by Cliffjumper, Mirage's guilt seemed all but confirmed, and before he could reveal his innocence, he was captured and brainwashed by one of [[Bombshell (G1)|Bombshell]]'s mind-controlling [[cerebro-shell]]s. Mirage took part in a charity race organised by the Autobots. While they raced and performed stunts, the Autobots were affected by Megatron's latest invention, the [[Transfixatron]], which locked them in their [[alternate mode|vehicle mode]]s. They were herded by the Decepticons to a ghost town, where the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicon]]s had created a machine to destroy them. Mirage came with the other Autobots when they were hired by [[Doctor Fujiyama the Famous Scientist]] to protect [[Nightbird (G1)|his latest invention]] when it was being unveiled. When Decepticons attacked, Mirage became invisible and attacked Soundwave. Megatron offered to make Mirage disappear for good, but Optimus Prime saw to it that it wouldn't come true. After the Decepticons made off with Nightbird, Mirage and Ratchet insisted that [[Brawn (G1)|Brawn]] stay behind at Autobot base for repairs. As Brawn and [[Ironhide (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Ironhide]] were being repaired, Optimus detected an intruder. Mirage went to investigate, only to be beaten up by a Decepticon-reprogrammed Nightbird. Mirage pursued her with the other Autobots. When they caught up with her, Mirage became invisible in order to return Optimus Prime's laser rifle undetected, giving him the advantage. {{storylink|Enter the Nightbird}}

When Mirage and the other Autobots found they mysteriously had two Optimus Primes, the duo were subjected to a series of inconclusive tests. Before any further testing could be done, they had to roll out to a crevasse filled with [[korlonium crystal]]s to investigate strange readings. During the battle with the Decepticons that followed, the real Prime's identity was soon revealed. {{storylink|A Prime Problem}} Mirage was part of [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]]'s team when they stumbled on the Decepticons' drilling operation. As [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] blasted him off a cliff, Mirage became invisible so the Decepticons would "never find [his] pieces". Of course, he survived and he and Sunstreaker used his grappling hook to take down Devastator. Back at Headquarters, a plan was hatched to plant [[dominator disk]]s on the Constructicons. Mirage took part, planting two of the disks at once, and Devastator was soon under Autobot control. Later, as the Dinobots were being repaired after another battle, Mirage reminisced about how great Cybertron was. When [[cybertonium]] depletion started affecting all of the Transformers, Mirage's invisibility power went on the fritz — instead of making him invisible, it merely altered his color scheme slightly. Unfortunately he didn't find this out until after he tried to sneak up on [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]] and was promptly blasted into a wall. {{storylink|Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 1}} The Autobots' condition worsened, until they were unable to move. More homesick for his homeworld than any of his fellows, Mirage volunteered for the dangerous mission to infiltrate the planet and activate the switch. To this end, he transferred his spark into a new [[Binaltech]] body that had been designed to replicate the function of his [[power chip rectifier]], but which had instead resulted in greatly ''magnified'' powers. The new body's Electro Disruptor kept it ''permanently'' invisible, which allowed Mirage to make his way to Cybertron, past the Decepticons, and down into the planet's depths to the switch. After throwing the switch, though, Mirage was surprised to find that he was still mobile. Scattered groups of Autobot survivors quickly organized; Mirage and Electro were called to a rendezvous with a squad led by [[Obsidian (BM)|Obsidian]] outside of [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], where Mirage used his enhanced powers to keep a substantial number of reinforcements hidden from view. When Megaplex and his men were lured out by the seemingly small group of rebels, Mirage dropped the invisibility field, revealing to the clones that they were surrounded. A fierce battle erupted, but the tide began to turn against the Autobots when it turned out that their team-mate [[Sandstorm (MW)|Sandstorm]] was actually an undercover agent, who blasted Obsidian. {{storylink|Termination}} Still the heroes fought on, with Mirage and Override attempt to take on the Sandstorm clone, only to be soundly thrashed. Blacker than the inside of a drive shaft—that's how Jazz described the north side of Cybertron. The slang-talking operations specialist was on a recon mission to ascertain Cybertron's bleak energy reserves, and his reports were what prompted the Autobot mission to search for new sources of energy outside of their home world. Jazz served as pilot for the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] until severe asteroid turbulence knocked him from his seat. The Decepticons took advantage of the confusion and attacked, and both vessels and parties crash-landed on [[Earth]].

Four million years later, in 1984, the Autobots and Decepticons awoke reformatted to fit in on the planet. Jazz traded in his sleek Cybertronian form for an even sleeker Porsche 935 Turbo mode. As a lieutenant to [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]], Jazz was charged with assembling a task force to counter a Decepticon raid on an oil rig, calling the Autobots out and assembling them for battle. Jazz accompanied the first mission to the offshore oil rig, {{storylink|More than Meets the Eye, Part 1}} where his wrist-mounted grappling hook and winch came in handy saving Optimus Prime. Jazz was one of the first Autobots to discover that a Decepticon "attack" on a fake rocket base set up by the Autobots was, in fact, a decoy attack by animated dummies. With the Decepticons poised to return to Cybertron with a ship full of energon cubes, Jazz made the call for volunteers to go on the dangerous mission to stop them, and joined in the battle himself. {{storylink|More than Meets the Eye, Part 3}}

Taking Spike for a ride through the city and cranking up the tunes, Jazz was the first to notice a blackout originating at a solar power plant, caused by a Decepticon incursion. Jazz joined up with Optimus Prime's strike team as they searched for the Decepticons' new [[space bridge]], battling them in a cave and somehow knocking aside a null ray blast with a stalactite. The discovery of [[Dinosaur (dinosaur)|dinosaur]] bones prompted Jazz to opine they must have been mighty ugly. When the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] were built and promptly ran amok, Jazz attempted to stop them and was later part of the "firing squad" who sealed them in a cave. During a battle at the [[Great Falls]], Jazz and the majority of the Autobot forces were captured, and only an attack by the reactivated Dinobots saved them all from termination. {{storylink|S.O.S. Jazz got to try out some "crazy new waterskis" during an attempt to defend a solar plant on the coast of [[India]], though it all turned out to be a diversion so the Decepticons could kidnap [[Sparkplug Witwicky]]. In turn, he and the other Autobots took part in a diversionary attack on Decepticon headquarters, so another team could sneak in and retrieve Sparkplug. Sparkplug was part of a Decepticon plan to enslave humans using [[hypno-chip]]s, and when the Autobots attempted to stop the Decepticons' latest scheme, they found themselves being attacked by hypnotised humans. Jazz and Trailbreaker at least got to mock the [[Seeker (body-type)|Seekers]] when the environmental conditions caused their weapons to backfire on them. They retreated back to Autobot Headquarters, Jazz using his magnet beams to start locked on Ironhide's tail. {{storylink|The Ultimate Doom, Part 2}} During later efforts to stop the Decepticons taking advantage of the wild conditions, Jazz surfed in to attack Megatron's [[sea funnel]]. Unfortunately, the Autobots crashed along with the wave, and the Decepticons escaped with the energon they'd collected. Though the Autobots were occupied for a time rebuilding Earth, they were soon able to pick up the Decepticons' trail. After being led into a quick sand trap, Jazz was able to play Laserbeak, revealing that the Decepticons were heading for [[Doctor Arkeville]]'s laboratory. Following Spike's realisation that he was on the wrong side, Jazz was present when his mind was transferred back into his human body. {{storylink|Autobot Spike}} Following another battle, during which the Autobots were struck down by "energised boulders" and [[Gears (G1)|Gears]] was captured by the Decepticons, the Autobots travelled to Africa to mount a rescue. As one of the faster Autobots, Jazz excelled in the charity race the Autobots organised and even provided some driving music. He was one of the first Autobots across the finish line, though they soon discovered that they were unable to transform, due to the effects of Megatron's [[Transfixatron]], which had been surreptitiously used on them during the race. Forced to a ghost town where Megatron had constructed a crushing machine, the Autobots attempted to protect Ironhide, but Jazz was simply tossed aside so that the Constructicons could get to their victim. Help soon arrived in the form of an [[anti-transfixation grenade]], and the Autobots were finally able to fight back. {{storylink|The Autobot Run}}

Jazz set out with [[Bumblebee (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Bumblebee]] one day to test out his sound system, newly souped up by Spike and Sparkplug. The deafening music was enough to disrupt a nearby cliff, prompting Jazz and his human pals to beat a hasty retreat. Returning to Autobot Headquarters, Jazz immediately came under attack by Bluestreak. Subduing his manic comrade, he and Bumblebee soon discovered that they were the only Autobots not transmutated to an evil state by a [[personality destabilizer device|personality destabilizer]] planted in the Autobots' [[recharging chamber]]. Jazz helped test out an "[[attitude exchanger]]" built by Sparkplug to restore the Autobots to their normal state, first distracting Bluestreak, and later applying exchangers to Hound and Ratchet. The theft of some experimental [[electro-cell]]s resulted in Jazz being part of an unsuccessful mission to recover them from the Decepticons. {{storylink|Traitor}} When Wheeljack demonstrated his [[Wheeljack Instant Immobilizer|Immobilizer]] by freezing a river solid, Jazz wasn't quite convinced...until he tried leaping onto the solidified water and found it harder than rock. Later, with the device in Decepticon hands, Jazz provided a crucial distraction with his [[sound and light show]] while [[Carly]] and Brawn sabotaged the device. {{storylink|The Immobilizer}}

Jazz was present when Optimus called for volunteers to investigate mysterious energy readings at the bottom of the Atlantic, but didn't volunteer. Maybe he preferred football with the Dinobots. {{storylink|Atlantis, Arise!}} He revealed that he'd been reading up on ninjas while the Autobots guarded [[Nightbird (G1)|Nightbird]]. After the robot was stolen by the Decepticons, he promised [[Doctor Fujiyama the Famous Scientist|Doctor Fujiyama]] they'd get her back unharmed. Instead, the Autobots ended up pursuing Nightbird after she stole the [[World Energy Chip]]. Jazz's attempt to disable her with his sound and light show failed when she busted his speakers with throwing stars. {{storylink|Enter the Nightbird}}

He was impressed by a huge deposit of [[korlonium crystal]]s, thinking that they put his light and sound show to shame. After a battle with the Decepticons, the Autobots returned to base, only to discover that somehow they'd picked up an [[Optimus Prime clone|extra Optimus Prime]]. After a series of inconclusive tests to determine which Prime was the real deal, the Autobots returned to the crevasse, where one of the two Primes destroyed [[Starscream clone (G1)|Starscream]], finally convincing the Autobots he was the genuine article. It wasn't until he chose to pass up rescuing Spike that Jazz realised that he was the fake, and the Autobots blasted the faux Optimus into the crevasse. {{storylink|A Prime Problem}}

Jazz was part of Sunstreaker's team when they stumbled on a Decepticon installation along a river and were attacked by [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]]. After some unsuccessful attempts to engage the combiner in combat, Jazz used his sound and light show to distract the giant long enough for [[Mirage (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Mirage]] and Sunstreaker to take him down [[AT-AT|Imperial walker]] style, and the Autobots escaped. They later mounted a commando operation, attaching [[dominator disk]]s to the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicon]]s to bring Devastator under their thrall. Back at base, Jazz was repaired by [[Hook (G1)|Hook]], but during the later attack on the Decepticon position, Megatron was able to override the dominator disks. Ultimately, the Autobots succeeded in destroying Megatron's drill and saving the Earth, so it wasn't a total loss. {{storylink|The Core}}

Jazz took part in attempting to defend the [[Nova Power Plant]] against the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]], and he was impressed by [[Inferno (G1)|Inferno]]'s sharpshooting. He rescued some pilots who were trapped in a crashed helicopter and helped pull [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] out from under a destroyed tower, helping Wheeljack to climb into Prime's trailer for the trip back to base. He later took part in the attempt to defend the [[Iron Mountain]] military base, and he was the only Autobot with the sense to take cover when [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]] exploded. {{storylink|The Insecticon Syndrome}}

During another rampage on the part of the Dinobots at Autobot headquarters, Jazz had to get out of the way of Inferno and [[Red Alert (G1)|Red Alert]] as they rushed to extinguish a fire. {{storylink|Dinobot Island, Part 1}} After strange time warps began opening, he, Inferno, Red Alert and Prowl interceded in a conflict between some cowboys and bikers. Jazz took part in [[Autobot Day]], a celebration which quickly turned sour when incriminating footage of the Autobots was broadcast. After a remarkably swift trial, the Autobots were all ordered to leave the planet, and they departed in a spaceship provided by [[Shawn Berger]]. {{storylink|Megatron's Master Plan, Part 1}} While the footage was revealed on Earth as a frame-up job by the Decepticons, the Autobots found themselves on a collision course with the [[Sun]]. While engaging the Decepticons in battle to prevent them from stealing the plans to the [[Ultra Plane]], Jazz was able to use his sound and light show on the enemy, and he was impressed by Hound's use holographic trickery to persuade the Decepticons to retreat. A [[cybertonium]] deficiency later caused the Autobots to start malfunctioning—starting with Jazz having trouble transforming. Then his sound and light show went on the fritz, and he was blasted by [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]]. Jazz tagged along with Perceptor and Omega Supreme on a mission to rescue Cosmos from where he had crashed on [[Saturn]]'s moon of [[Titan (moon)|Titan]]. He helped free [[Titan (species)|the locals]] from subjugation by Decepticons pretending to be gods and appeared particularly horrified at the Decepticons' use of religious enslavement. He did his best to explain to the natives that he and his fellow visitors weren't gods, "just fancy machines". {{storylink|The God Gambit}}

During an initiative by the Autobots to clean up [[New York City]], Jazz was part of a team who came to [[Tracks (G1)|Tracks]]'s aid when he stumbled on a Decepticon plot, and he took part in a later assault on a Decepticon base in the [[Pine Barrens]]. {{storylink|Make Tracks}} Unfortunately for Jazz, he was [[Kremzeek]]'s first victim, having his circuits thoroughly scrambled by the tiny energy critter. {{storylink|Kremzeek!}} His bad luck would continue; During a search for Tracks and Bumblebee, Jazz was snared by [[Chumley|Lord Chumley]]'s diabolical car wash trap. Jazz and [[Cliffjumper (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Cliffjumper]] attended the dedication of an [[Optimus Prime memorial]]. No sooner had Jazz unveiled the statue than they were attacked by [[Starscream (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Starscream]] and the Combaticons, who took them prisoner and took their [[energy absorber]]s. The pair were left chained up at a power plant until the arrival of Megatron's forces provided a distraction so that the Autobots could rescue them. {{storylink|Starscream's Brigade}}

After intercepting the Stunticons during another of Megatron's plans, a group of Autobots disguised themselves as the Decepticon team in order to find out what was going on. Jazz disguised himself as [[Dead End (G1)|Dead End]] and seemed quite cool with the whole thing, unlike [[Windcharger (G1)|Windcharger]] and [[Sideswipe (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Sideswipe]]. They were even able to take the ruse as far as merging into [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]], though when the deception was eventually uncovered, they found themselves battling the real thing. By 2005, those dang Decepti-jerks had overtaken all of Cybertron, forcing the Autobots to operate on [[Moonbase One]], [[Moonbase Two]] and [[Autobot City (G1)|Autobot City]] on Earth. Though most of the Autobots' senior command staff were killed as a result of the Decepticons' [[Battle of Autobot City|attack on the city]], Jazz remained on Moonbase One, where he and Cliffjumper survived. Bad news was, the ginormous [[Unicron]] arrived and unceremoniously began devouring the entire moon, base and all. Jazz and Cliffjumper's attempt to escape in a shuttle failed, and they were sucked into the monster's maw. Winding up on a deadly conveyor belt in Unicron's depths, Jazz, Cliffjumper, Spike, and Bumblebee were all spared when Spike's son [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] saved them from being dropped in an acid pit. When the Decepticons discovered Scramble City's construction site and sent the Constructicons in to destroy it, Jazz was among the Autobots who rolled out to stop them. The battle was going well until the Constructicons formed Devastator, who nearly crushed Jazz and Optimus Prime with a boulder, and then sent them flying with a laser blast. As [[Warpath (G1)|Warpath]] tended to the fallen Jazz, the Aerialbots appeared on the scene to force Devastator back. Jazz and the Autobots returned to their headquarters, but soon had to depart for battle once again when the Stunticons came a-knocking. Continued interaction between the Autobots and humanity led to a formal alliance being forged between the heroic robots and the government of the United States in the 1990s. Jazz was one of a delegation of Autobots who attended a press conference to announce the creation of the interstellar teleportation system known as the ''[[Trigger]]'' to the world. Despite his best efforts, Jazz couldn't get Wheeljack and Ratchet to shush during Optimus Prime's speech. Three days later, when the Decepticons staged an attempt to take the ''Trigger'' for themselves, Jazz joined a team of Autobots in rescuing the ''Trigger''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s human crew and fending the villains off. {{storylink|First Contact (Star Gate)|First Contact}}

Several months later, once the ''Trigger'' had been repaired, the Decepticons predictably made another play for it, and Jazz was once again present to fight them off. This battle went strangely: Starscream fused himself with the ''Trigger'' and began attacking all the Autobots and Decepticons, requiring Prime and Megatron to unite their power to stop him. In 2004, when Megatron was making his big push to take over Cybertron and the Earth was comparatively unguarded, the Autobots were struck by a Decepticon sneak attack and infected by a plague of [[Cosmic Rust (disease)|Cosmic Rust]]. Jazz was stationed on Earth at the time, but was lucky enough to avoid contamination. Many of his fellow Autobots were not so lucky, but were saved and made battle-ready again by an alliance with the [[Earth Defense Command]] that led to the foundation of the [[Binaltech Project]] and the construction of brand new powerful bodies for the fallen warriors. {{storylink|Story of Binaltech, Chapter 1}}

To counteract the Autobots' new strength, the Decepticons, with the aid of [[Doctor Arkeville]] and the human cabal known as the [[Concurrence]], infiltrated the Binaltech Project and began co-opting Binaltech bodies for their own soldiers. {{storylink|Arise! Evil Binaltechs}} When their actions were uncovered, a wave of mistrust and suspicion threatened to tear the Autobot-E.D.C. alliance apart. In order to corral the situation and weed out any traitors in the system, "[[Operation: Carwash (operation)|Operation: Carwash]]" was put together, headed up by [[Flint (G.I. Joe)|D.R. Faireborn]] and Jazz. Given the dangerous situations the upcoming undercover work was going to place him in, Jazz agreed to upgrade himself into a Binaltech body equipped with the [[Genetronic Translink System]], which would allow him to control multiple bodies at once. One of these bodies was a red version of himself, outfitted with a learning A.I. system based on Jazz's personality, which Jazz decided to nickname "[[Zoom-Zoom]]". {{storylink|Operation: Carwash}} Together, the team discovered that there were no true traitors: the moles in the system were unfortunate victims of Arkeville's mind-controlling [[hypno-chip]] technology. {{storylink|Expose All of Evil's Designs!}}

As the Binaltech conflict continued, the actions of the time-tossed Decepticon [[Ravage (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Ravage]] resulted in history being altered when he transported Megatron and the Decepticons outside of time so the Autobots would have to face to the looming threat of [[Unicron]] alone. {{storylink|Changing Lanes}} Thanks to a mysterious being from beyond time and space known as the [[Optimus Primal/Beast Wars cartoon continuity|Protector]], the timeline was corrected, and the alterate "BT World" timeline to which the Binaltech warriors belong was preserved as parallel timeline. Following the defeat of Unicron, however, Jazz was the one to report on the return of Megatron's forces from beyond time, still in fighting trim and poised to wipe out the Autobots, who had been weakened by their battle with the planet-eater. {{storylink|Binal Time}}

As the Autobots picked up the pieces, they encountered a surprising visitor from another dimension: the [[Bluestreak (G1)|Bluestreak]] who hailed from the original, unaltered timeline. The [[spark]] of the BT World's [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]] had previously been lost in a [[Transwarp|subspace]] accident, and Bluestreak revealed that it had materialized in his dimension, but that a signal emanating from the BT World was destabilizing it. {{storylink|Unfinished Business, Part 1}} Analyzing Bluestreak's [[energy wave tracker]], Jazz pinpointed the source of the signal and lead an Autobot raiding part straight to it. The signal was coming from an artificial [[electrum]] giant created by Doctor Arkeville, which was drawing power from Prowl's spark. Activating his powerful new "Argent Armor", Jazz was able to convert his own armored hide into synthetic electrum, which proved powerful enough to go up against the giant's metal skin. When the Decepticons began a full-scale assault on Cybertron in order to get their hands on [[Vector Sigma]], he followed his leader to the planet to help reinforce their defenses, and was seen shooting down [[Blast Off (G1)|Blast Off]]. {{storylink|Four Warriors Come out of the Sky}} When the Autobot [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] arrived to tip the battle in the Autobots' favor, Jazz was able to return to Earth, where he helped co-ordinate the effort to locate the missing [[Matrix of Leadership]]. {{storylink|The Mystery of Planet Master}} Jazz was then among the Autobot units who ran interference for [[Hot Rod/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Hot Rod]], helping to keep the Decepticons off his back as he began his Matrix quest. {{storylink|Birth of the Fantastic Double Prime}}

Following the successful recovery of the Matrix, Jazz stayed on Earth, working under [[Ultra Magnus (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Ultra Magnus]] at [[Autobot City (G1)|Autobot City]]. Together, Jazz and Magnus took Metroplex into battle against Trypticon when the giant Decepticon city appeared to be attacking an oil field, but neither Autobot realized they were walking into a trap.
