Paragon and Cyclonus were lovers during the [[War of the Threefold Spark]]. A romantic, Paragon always dreamed of visiting the world of [[Neutronia]] with Cyclonus after everything was done, so he was greatly perturbed when Provoke informed him [[Turmoil]] had melted two-thirds of the planet.

Later on during the war, Paragon was captured by Turmoil, and taken off planet when he fled Cybertron. He was still a captive when the war ended, and Nominus Prime declared an amnesty for all the surviving servants of the Threefold Spark. When Cyclonus finally got his chance to confront the Great General, she surprised him by quietly accepting his vendetta. Forty cycles later, Provoke was found alive underneath the Memorial Crater. However, something about her behavior was amiss, as she coldly brushed off Cyclonus's attempts to socialize. Finally reaching breaking point, Cyclonus confronted "Provoke", and learned she had been usurped by Exarchon. In order to prevent himself being usurped as well, Cyclonus ripped the spark core out of his friend's body. While the others welcomed the hallucination of Provoke back into the fold, Paragon asked Cyclonus if he was okay. After Megatron was convinced, Cyclonus accompanied a team of Decepticons to the [[Sonic Canyons]] to take care of Exarchon. Once in flight on the ''Ark'', he told "Paragon" that he would pay a visit to the remains of Neutronia as the real Paragon had wanted for them. These days, the only remnant of Gridlock is a hallucination of Cyclonus's. Unlike the others, Gridlock's not a chatty ghost, generally keeping quiet and hanging around in the back.

Early in the war, the squad was deployed to the [[Tagan Heights]]; after Highfire was killed in action, the team fought [[Turmoil]] and a swarm of [[Skywarp drone]]s on the [[Hydrax Plateau]], which ended with Turmoil taking Paragon captive, before fleeing the planet. Some time later, the Memorial Crater was badly damaged when the Ascenticons blew up the secret base they'd been keeping beneath it. Just before a battle at [[Tagan Heights]], it was Provoke who informed Paragon his plans of post-war retirement with Cyclonus to [[Neutronia]] were no good, since she'd heard [[Turmoil]] had melted half the planet. Later on in the war, after a fight at the [[Hydrax Plateau]], Paragon had been captured and dragged off-world by the fleeing Turmoil. Provoke assured Cyclonus they'd get him back, but the mood was broken by an assailant shooting Gridlock through the head.

She and Cyclonus were separated during the fighting, and when she found her friend again he was in a state of shock. Provoke reassured him that for [[Exarchon]], the fight was already lost. However, her reassurance was short lived when she was shot through the chest, killing her instantly. The traumatised Cyclonus began seeing a hallucination of Provoke, along with the rest of his friends, bearing the injuries that killed her. In the aftermath of the Titan [[Cargohold]] crashing into the Memorial Crater, the body of Provoke was found in the rubble by the Decepticons [[Roadtrap (POTP)|Roadtrap]] and [[Gutcruncher (G1)|Gutcruncher]]. {{storylink|War World: Titans|Titans}} Assuming his friend was alive again meant that Cyclonus stopped seeing her ghost inside his mind, replacing her with Paragon, a move Gridlock's hallucination found preferable. Grudge and Gridlock advocation a full-on attack, since Cyclonus didn't care much about his own death. A short time later, the memorial crater was badly damaged by the Ascenticons destroying a base they'd secretely maintained underneath it. As Cyclonus took in the damage, Highfire noted he was angry. Discussion turned to Cyclonus's own mental health, and Highfire suggested bringing in Paragon, citing Froid's argument that the pain would dissolve Cyclonus's anger and guilt, a stance Provoke's ghost disagreed with. The discussion was interrupted by Hot Spot getting Cyc's attention, and revealing Sixshot was the presumed culprit. {{storylink|The Change In Your Nature Part Five}} Looking to find Chromia so he could find Sixshot, Cyclonus went to Iacon. However, Prowl rebuffed him, telling Cyclonus to go away. A friend of Cyclonus, Grudge was killed during the [[War of the Threefold Spark]].{{storylink|The Cracks Beneath Your Feet Part One}} During peacetime, Cyclonus developed a coping mechanism by conversing with the hallucinatory "ghosts" of Grudge, [[Highfire]], [[Gridlock]], and [[Provoke]] while taking solitary vigil at [[Memorial Crater]]. {{storylink|The Cracks Beneath Your Feet Part Four}} During Cyclonus' encounter with [[Flamewar (G1)|Flamewar]], Grudge's ghost manifested itself and remarked on Flamewar's choice of weaponry.{{storylink|The Cracks Beneath Your Feet Part Two}}
