'''Linkin Park''' is a Grammy Award-winning band from [[California]], USA. The lead single from their album ''Minutes to Midnight'', "[[What I've Done]]", was sampled in a theatrical trailer for the [[Transformers (film)|2007 ''Transformers'' film]]. It was also played in the film—first on the car radio during the scene in which [[Sam Witwicky|Sam]] drops off [[Mikaela Banes|Mikaela]] at her house, then over the final scene and credits—and was included on the film's [[Transformers: The Album|album]]. Linkin Park's single for ''[[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (film)|Revenge of the Fallen]]'', "[[New Divide]]" was released exclusively on iTunes on [[May 18]], [[2009]], and then later in ''Revenge of the Fallen''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s [[Revenge of the Fallen: The Album|album]].

In addition to "New Divide" being showcased in the soundtrack for ''Revenge of the Fallen'', Linkin Park also worked with [[Steve Jablonsky]] in [[Revenge of the Fallen: The Score|scoring the film]]. The guitar riff of "New Divide" is sampled in "NEST", one of the tracks from the score.

Linkin Park's single "[[Iridescent]]" from the album ''A Thousand Suns'' was featured in ''[[Transformers: Dark of the Moon (film)|Dark of the Moon]]'' and on ''[[Dark of the Moon: The Album]]''. Each used a shorter "remix" version of the song. Their song "[[Burning in the Skies]]" (also from ''A Thousand Suns'') was also featured on the [[Russia]]n edition of ''Dark of the Moon: The Album''.

Their single "[[Until It's Gone]]" from the album ''The Hunting Party'', was featured in the ''[[Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark (console)|Rise of the Dark Spark]]'' launch trailer.
'''A Decepticon escape pod lands on Earth and the Autobot Smokescreen emerges, while Starscream uses the Apex Armor to go on a quest for Red Energon.'''

==Synopsis==
[[Image:NewRecruit-exercise.jpg|left|thumb|300px|Jane Fonda would be doing a facepalm at this.]]

[[Raf Esquivel|Raf]] and [[Jack Darby|Jack]] cruise the [[Internet]] for pictures of [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]] to replace with tap-dancing monkey pictures, while [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]] forces [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] to exercise so his legs don't atrophy. Jack notices a picture which Raf identifies as a Cybertronian escape pod. [[Arcee (WFC)|Arcee]] suggests bringing in [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]] as Bulkhead still isn't combat-ready, which [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] promptly shoots down due to [[Hurt|recent events]]. [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus]] orders Ratchet to come along with them instead, as there might be an injured [[Autobot]] in the pod. They [[GroundBridge]] into the crash site to find it's a [[Decepticon]] pod, and they're immediately under attack from their foe. The [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicons]], augmented by [[Insecticon (WFC)|Insecticons]], turn out to be a challenge, but then a new figure appears running through the trees. The newcomer's fire accidentally hits the [[energon]] leaking from the pod, and the Autobots take cover as it explodes, taking out the Decepticons. The over-enthusiastic newcomer happens to be [[Smokescreen (Prime)|Smokescreen]], an Autobot rookie who becomes in awe when he meets ''the'' Optimus Prime. The Autobots are initially suspicious, remembering [[Con Job|the last time a new Autobot turned up]], but Smokescreen's tales of [[Alpha Trion (WFC)|Alpha Trion]] and guarding the Hall of Records convinces Prime that he is legitimate.

Back at base, Miko's excited to meet the new Autobot. Smokescreen relates the story of the last days of Iacon and how he was captured by Decepticons during the siege, before escaping from a Decepticon transport ship in an escape pod. Smokescreen thinks with him there they'll have the war ended in no time, and Bulkhead drags himself in to show the newcomer how the war is going. Miko volunteers Jack to show Smokescreen around.

[[Image:NewRecruit-Starscreammonkey.jpg|right|thumb|300px|So many gifs of animals, so little time.]]

In the ''[[Harbinger]]'', [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] searches the Internet for interesting stuff and happens on an image of [[Red Energon]] at a construction site.

Jack shows Smokescreen around where the Cybertronian relics and [[Airachnid (Prime)|Airachnid]] are stored. Bulkhead is upset that the others have brought in a replacement for him, but as they point out, Smokescreen is a newbie and needs a lot of training. Raf finds the same Red Energon photo that Starscream did. Smokescreen's keen to go out on the mission, but the others point out his need for training and an [[alternate mode]].

Starscream arrives at the construction site, only to find it deserted and the Red Energon gone.

Smokescreen and Jack scope out vehicles driving near [[Jasper]], and the Autobot is disappointed in the available vehicle forms. Meanwhile, Prime, Arcee and Bumblebee arrive at the dock where the Red Energon's been moved, and discover Starscream is already there. The Decepticon activates the [[Apex Armor (Prime)|Apex Armor]] and Optimus sends Arcee and Bumblebee to get the energon while he takes on Starscream. He reports back to base what's happening, and Smokescreen wants to go help, but is overruled by Ratchet.

Having dealt with Optimus, Starscream climbs up the crane after Arcee and Bumblebee. At base, Bulkhead urges Ratchet to let him go help, but Ratchet ignores him until they realize Smokescreen is missing. Ratchet finds him in the storeroom looking at the [[phase shifter]]. Meanwhile, Starscream reaches Arcee, only for Optimus to punch him right off the crane. Starscream tries to grab some of the Red Energon on the way down, breaking off a chunk. As Optimus starts hauling up the basket with the energon in it, Starscream grabs the bottom of the crane and tips it. He's interrupted by the arrival of Smokescreen through the GroundBridge. Using the phase shifter, the new Autobot kicks Starscream right out of the Apex Armor. While Smokescreen stands triumphant, Starscream fires off a missile at the crane, the ensuing explosion destroying the Red Energon meteor. Though the Autobots atop it survive, Starscream gets away with a chunk of Red Energon he broke off.

After they return to base, Smokescreen returns the phase shifter and the Apex Armor, after which Optimus officially welcomes him to [[Team Prime]]. Bulkhead looks on sadly, and though Miko tries to give him some encouraging words, he turns and limps back down the corridor.
==Notes==
===Continuity notes===
* Bumblebee has gained more pictures of himself on conspiracy websites since "[[One Shall Fall]]".
* The Autobots remember when [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]] first arrived [[Con Job|and how that turned out]].
* Ratchet is still upset at Wheeljack for pulling that "revenge stunt" with Miko in "[[Hurt]]".
* Bulkhead is still recovering from the injuries he suffered in "[[Toxicity]]". By now, he can walk unaided (albeit at a slow limp), and a conversation with Ratchet implies that he can transform and drive around to some extent.
* The [[spark extractor]] ("[[Operation Bumblebee, Part 1]]"), [[immobilizer]] ("[[Partners]]"), [[phase shifter]] ("[[Tunnel Vision]]"), and Airachnid ("[[Armada (episode)|Armada]]") are part of Jack's tour.
* Starscream still has the Apex Armor he obtained in "[[Triangulation]]". Well, ''had''.

===Transformers references===
* Smokescreen references [[Constructicon (WFC)|Constructicons]], [[Halogen (WFC)|Halogen]], [[Alpha Trion (WFC)|Alpha Trion]], the [[Elite Guard]], and the [[Autobot High Council|High Council]].
* As in ''[[Transformers: Exodus]]'', Alpha Trion is the master archivist of Iacon's Hall of Records.
* Smokescreen bears the Autobot Elite Guard symbol from ''[[Transformers Animated (franchise)|Transformers Animated]]'', and upon scanning an Earth mode, [[Smokescreen (G1)|continues the tradition]] [[Smokescreen (Cybertron)|of Smokescreens wearing]] [[Smokescreen (Movie)|the number "38"]].
* In a likely coincidence (but with a chance of being intentional given the "[[Binder of Revelation]]"), the "Fast" [[Arms Micron#Energon Crystals|Energon Crystals]] of the [[TakaraTomy]] [[Transformers: Prime (toyline)|''Prime'' toyline]] are bright salmon.
* The Decepticon warship Smokescreen was held captive aboard is similar in shape to [[Jhiaxus (G2)|Jhiaxus]]' ship, ''[[Twilight (G2)|Twilight]]''.
* Smokescreen states that the Elite Guard was like a [[Autoboot Camp|boot camp]] for him.
* The recovery of an empty [[Decepticon]] escape pod, complete with a red, dirt-covered [[insignia]], could be a callback to the [[The Transformers (cartoon)|Generation 1]] episode "[[A Plague of Insecticons]]", which had a similar scene, and the appearance of [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]].

===Real-world references===
* "Clown cars" are a real and horrifying phenomenon, where a large number of clowns cram themselves into a tiny vehicle then pile out for the "amusement" of an audience, and like Insecticons, must be purged, preferably by fire.

===Errors===
* The Insecticons seem to die ''very'' easily in this episode. Arcee and Bumblebee take out one in a few seconds when last time it took them an [[Tunnel Vision|entire episode]]. Things will not get any better for them in future episodes.
* Shortly after Bumblebee first exits the GroundBridge portal, a part sticks out that disappears when he transforms
* Arm weapons silently transform twice in this episode; Optimus' when he's running from the exploding pod, and Bumblebee's when he's about to climb the crane.
* The Apex Armor doesn't allow room for Starscream's wings—as Smokescreen kicks him out of the armor, his wings just suddenly appear into his back.
* Even Optimus Prime can't pronounce the name of his former profession, referring to Alpha Trion as an [[Orion Pax, Part 1|"ar-KIVE-ist]]."
* When Smokescreen looks into the Phase Shifter vault during Jack's tour, for a brief moment one can see his doorwings bear the checkered 38 design, in spite of him not having scanned such a paint-job yet.
* As Optimus' report didn't mention the Apex Armor, how did Smokescreen know to take the phase shifter to defeat it?
* So... Smokescreen can use the Phase Shifter to shift into the Apex Armor, somehow maintain enough density to ''kick Starscream'' while he's still shifted partway through the armor's front, and then somehow ''transfer'' the Shifter's properties to Starscream so that ''he'' flies out of the armor's back despite not being in contact with the Shifter? What the heck?

===Trivia===
* Starscream finds Earth humor funny, [[Darkness Rising, Part 3|even though he previously said he didn't]]. Guess Ratchet [[One Shall Fall|isn't the only one]].
* As usual, the vehicle mode Smokescreen chooses completely [[Masters & Students|matches]] [[Crisscross|his]] [[Loose Cannons|body]]. However, this ''is'' the first time a Transformer changes his paint job after getting a new vehicle mode; Smokescreen's Elite Guard logos are exchanged for his number "38" and checker racer decal.
* Smokescreen is also the first character to refer to a [[alternate mode|vehicle mode]] as a "v. mode" in Transformers fiction.
* A new kind of Energon has been introduced alongside the regular, [[Dark Energon|Dark]], [[Synthetic Energon|Synthetic]], and [[Tox-En|Toxic]] forms. Time will tell if using Red Energon has any negative effects...
* Smokescreen refers to Starscream as having "[http://www.theshoedictionary.com/stiletto-heels.html stiletto]" heels, despite Starscream's feet more closely resembling [http://www.theshoedictionary.com/french-heels.html french/spool] heels. Clearly, Smokescreen knows very little about the finer details of women's footwear.
{{disambig3|Insecticon}}
:''The Insecticons are [[Transformer]]s from the [[Aligned continuity family]].''
[[File:FOCInsecticon.jpg|thumb|right|upright=1.4|[[Michael Bay]]'s ''A Bug's Life''.]]

Denizens of the under levels of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], the '''Insecticons''' live in destructive swarms. Ravenous and aggressive, Insecticons can digest 95% of known matter, reshaping their findings into enormous subterranean hives. Existing as a near hive mind, they represent a deadly and invaluable resource for those willing to find a way to tame them.

Insecticons have the unique ability to clone themselves, but each successive clone is inferior to its progenitor, leading to increasingly bestial creatures. Some types are capable of assuming bipedal [[robot mode]]s, and a further few seem to be fully intelligent individuals.

Since most of their number are basically animals, Insecticons respond best to displays of power, and their swarms are normally dominated by the smartest and strongest among them. Nevertheless, a sufficiently firm hand or assertion of command from a non-Insecticon may gain control as well, as with the groups controlled by [[Airachnid (Prime)|Airachnid]] and [[Lockdown (Adventure)|Lockdown]].

The earliest known named Insecticons include:

* [[Hardshell]]
* [[Kickback (FOC)|Kickback]]
* [[Sharpshot]]

Among the other named members of the species are:

* [[Barrage (Prime)|Barrage]]
* [[Bombshock (Prime)|Bombshock]]
* [[Buzzclaw (RID)|Buzzclaw]]
* [[Infernox]]
* [[Needler (RID)|Needler]]
* [[Ransack (RID Insecticon)|Ransack]]
* [[Razorhorn]]
* [[Scorpinok (RID)|Scorpinok]]
* [[Skrapnel (RID)|Skrapnel]]
* [[Springbolt]]
* [[Waspinator (RID)|Waspinator]]

In addition, there are countless types of Insecticon drone, each adapted to a specific role. Some of these are:

* [[Bombshell (Adventure)|Bombshells]]
* [[Insecticon Bruiser|Bruisers]]
* [[Shrapnel (Adventure)|Shrapnels]]
* [[Insecticon Spitter|Spitters]]
* [[Insecticon Swarmer|Swarmers]]
==Fiction==
===Aligned novels===
[[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]] experimented on three specimens, optimizing them for battle in the gladiatorial arenas of [[Kaon (polity)|Kaon]] by turning them into [[combiner]]s—something that disgusted the gladiator [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatronus]]. They were primitive to the point of barely possessing a sentient consciousness, but surprisingly capable fighters. The way they moved together gave away their nature as combiners even when separate. Even with one of their number dead, the remaining two could combine into a hovering attack mode.

The trio competed in the [[gladiatorial combat|gladiatorial]] [[Tournament of Champions]] when they encountered Megatronus. He allowed them to [[trans-scan|scan]] a vehicle form before attacking. One emerged from a scrapheap as an all-terrain vehicle with magnetic studded tracks and sought a vantage point on the combat pit's wall, while another sprayed acid on Megatronus's shoulder. Megatronus caught the third Insecticon's multiple, vibrobladed hands and tore an arm off, flinging it into the audience and causing havoc.

Taking fire from the other two, Megatronus made the wounded Insecticon fire his own ion cannon into its neck, killing it in an attempt to ensure there would be no combination. He then slammed the acid-spitter to the floor, but it wriggled away and managed to combine with the ATV, wiring itself into girders while blasting and spitting acid at the gladiator. Megatronus transformed and blasted them, before pinning them down in [[robot mode]] and smashing them to pieces with two [[energon mace|maces]]. Megatronus roared "I still function!", as the crowd began chanting a shortened version of his name: Megatron. {{storylink|Transformers: Exodus|Exodus}}

In the period after the ''[[Ark (WFC)|Ark]]'' and ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'' had left [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Shockwave commanded Insecticon soldiers, which [[Alpha Trion (WFC)|Alpha Trion]] feared would be sent to capture the [[Hall of Records]]. {{storylink|Transformers: Exiles|Exiles}}

Sure enough, Alpha Trion's neutrality was finally ignored when Shockwave had him arrested. The Insecticons served as guards for Shockwave as he attempted to hack [[Vector Sigma]] using Alpha Trion's circuitry. When the [[Wrecker]]s arrived to stop Shockwave, the Insecticons confronted the Autobots long enough for Shockwave to escape. {{storylink|Transformers: Retribution|Retribution}}

===IDW Aligned comics===
Shockwave discovered the Insecticons in the depths of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] and was able to turn them into Decepticons, believing the warrior race to be the key to winning the war. By altering their already mutated forms, he was able to make the Insecticons loyal to him, and ready to aid the Decepticon empire in broadening its reach beyond Cybertron. {{storylink|Fragmentation (FOC)|Fragmentation}} Shockwave had a number of the creatures capture a spying [[Swoop (WFC)|Swoop]] in order to lure the rest of the [[Lightning Strike Coalition]] to his base. {{storylink|Secrets (FOC)|Secrets}} When the Autobot team arrived, they too were overwhelmed by a swarm of Insecticons, {{storylink|Siege Mentality}} {{storylink|Rage of the Dinobots issue 4|Rage of the Dinobots #4}} and though [[Grimlock (WFC)|Grimlock]] was able to fight them off, he was defeated by Shockwave and his team was captured. The swarm carted the Lightning Strike Coalition off to Shockwave's laboratory so the prisoners could be experimented upon. {{storylink|Last Stand}}

Many Insecticons were left on Cybertron as it was largely abandoned during the war, remaining a constant threat to the few surviving Autobots. When an unseen assailant began murdering people in [[Last Spark]], [[Snarl (FOC)|Snarl]] and [[Sludge (FOC)|Sludge]] suspected the Insecticons had turned to cannibalism and investigated Kickback's lair, where they found corpses of [[Forged]], another faction created by Shockwave. {{storylink|Beast Hunters issue 1|Beast Hunters #1}} While fighting the two, Kickback denied their accusation, claiming the Insecticons had killed the Forged for trying to eat ''them''. Though the Insecticons were proven innocent of this particular crime, Sludge still killed Kickback just in case. {{storylink|Beast Hunters issue 2|Beast Hunters #2}}
[[File:Prime-insecticon.jpg|thumb|left|upright=1.4|Who thinks they can squash me like a bug?]]
An Insecticon was left in stasis on Cybertron, acting as a Decepticon sentry. It was awakened by [[Jack Darby|Jack]] and [[Arcee (WFC)|Arcee]]'s arrival in [[Kaon (polity)|Kaon]], and began pursuing them. {{storylink|Orion Pax, Part 2}} As they used the [[Key to Vector Sigma]] to reveal a hidden passage under the city's arena, the Insecticon attacked. Arcee attempted to distract it so that Jack could escape into the newly revealed entrance, but she was soundly beaten when it slammed her into the arena wall. The Insecticon then tracked Jack to [[Vector Sigma]], but was horrified to see the supercomputer covered in [[scraplet]]s. Jack hurled one of the scraplets at the Insecticon so that they would stop feeding on Vector Sigma, and the rest of the swarm followed it in attacking the larger beast-bot. The Insecticon was savaged, falling off the bridge into a chasm as it was eaten alive. {{storylink|Orion Pax, Part 3}}

[[File:Crossfire Megatron and Insecticon close together.jpg|thumb|right|upright=1.4|Megatron put Eradicating Aerosol in his deck for just such an occasion.]]
When [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] was seeking Energon scraps in an old mine, he noticed an Insecticon doing the same, and was surprised that one was on [[Earth]]. Starscream demanded that the Insecticon hand over the Energon it had found, though it instead turned on him and attacked, before [[Airachnid (Prime)|Airachnid]] called it off. Airachnid had managed to control it, due to their being related. Though Starscream suggested that they all team up to end [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]], Airachnid instead ordered the Insecticon to attack him, however he escaped. Sometime later, the Insecticon attacked Megatron as part of Airachnid's trap, refusing to obey him instead. The Insecticon had the upper hand on the Decepticon leader, particularly when Airachnid removed his fusion cannon from the equation, however Megatron eventually triumphed as he beheaded the Insecticon. However, as the escaped Airachnid discovered, it was only a scout for an entire hive of Insecticons in stasis underground. {{storylink|Crossfire}}

[[File:Armada-armadasurroundMegatron.jpg|left|thumb|upright=1.67|We're going to need a bigger ship.]]
Airachnid awoke the Insecticons after detecting a signal from the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'', and sent most of them to terminate Megatron, while others attempted to protect her from the Autobots who arrived to see what was happening. While [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]] eliminated the Insecticons attacking them, Arcee chased down Airachnid and put her in stasis. At that point her control of the Insecticons ceased, and those attacking the ''Nemesis'' stopped and proclaimed their loyalty to Megatron. Then, the ''Nemesis'' crashed for [[Bulkhead (Prime)|some reason]]. {{storylink|Armada (episode)|Armada}}

Now added to the Decepticon ranks, the Insecticons were free to move about the ship. After Megatron used [[Dark Energon]] to bring the ship back online but as a consequence the ship started making its own decisions, Megatron then sent all of the ship's crew, including the Insecticons, to stop the ''Nemesis''. They failed and were stasis locked by the ''Nemesis'''s stasis cannon sweep of the ship. They started recovering after Jack disabled the ship's Dark Energon influence. {{storylink|Flying Mind}}

A single Insecticon went with [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] to watch over the medic as they searched for one of the [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]] relics in the [[New York City|Manhattan]] subway. When Arcee and [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]] turned up, it easily brought them down. But soon they started fighting back, and the Insecticon pursued Arcee down the tunnel, and eventually the two began clashing. The Insecticon had the upper hand until she managed to get it to come into contact with the electrified third rail on the subway track, frying it. {{storylink|Tunnel Vision}}

[[File:HardshellTeaser.jpg|right|thumb|upright=1.4|"These scars? They make [[Grimlock (Animated)|Me Hardshell]] [[David Kaye|badass]]."]]

Megatron entered the chamber occupied by the Insecticons and asked for the fiercest among them to retrieve the fourth Iacon relic. [[Hardshell]] led three other Insecticons to the Earth's equator, and Hardshell's first fight with Bulkhead resulted in defeat. As they continued their mission, one of the Insecticons fell prey to a grenade and some [[Tox-En]]. Hardshell and the others were mislead by a false trail left by Bulkhead, but eventually caught up with the Wrecker at the top of a nearby volcano. He managed to acquit himself well against the trio, finishing off one Insecticon and throwing Hardshell and the Tox-En into the volcano. Hardshell survived his swim and shot Bulkhead in the back as the Autobot was retreating through the [[GroundBridge]]. {{storylink|Toxicity}}

Megatron was unhappy with the results of the mission and the Insecticons faced hostility from Knock Out and the Vehicons, eventually resulting in a brawl aboard the ''Nemesis''. Hardshell was dispatched to deal with [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]] and almost bested his foe, until [[Miko Nakadai]] killed him using the ''[[Jackhammer (Prime)|Jackhammer]]''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> weapons systems. The rest of the Insecticons pursued the ship, only stopping when Wheeljack threw a bag of grenades at them. The survivors dragged Hardshell's corpse back to the Decepticon warship to report his failure. {{storylink|Hurt}}

Some Vehicons and Insecticons were sent to investigate a crashed Decepticon escape pod. Those that weren't killed by the Autobots perished when the pod exploded. {{storylink|New Recruit}} A few Insecticons were used as muscle when the Decepticons were digging up another Iacon relic, and lifted heavy rocks in their insect modes. They subsequently fought the Autobots and chased Jack around. {{storylink|Legacy (episode)|Legacy}} [[Smokescreen (Prime)|Smokescreen]] phased through an Insecticon while escaping the ''Nemesis'', much to its surprise. {{storylink|Inside Job}} The Insecticons took part in the attack on the Autobot base, though they dropped like flies during the battle. {{storylink|Darkest Hour (episode)|Darkest Hour}}

After the destruction of the Autobots’ base, several Insecticons helped shift through the rubble to unearth whatever Autobot corpses Megatron hoped to find there. They were unsuccessful. Later, they helped look for the Iacon artifacts left behind on Cybertron during the battle for the Omega Lock. {{storylink|Darkmount, NV}}

A number of Insecticons arrived at an energon mine reported to be under attack, but encountered only confused [[Decepticon Miner|miners]]. {{storylink|Rebellion (Prime)|Rebellion}} A half-dozen Insecticons, including [[Bombshock (Prime)|Bombshock]], were sent to a cavern to find [[Predacon (Prime)|Predacon]] remains. Though they successfully find a Predacon skull, Optimus Prime arrived and slaughtered most of them, with only Bombshock escaping with one of the Predacon's horns. {{storylink|Project Predacon}} Four Insecticons were dispatched to help Knock Out against Arcee and Wheeljack. They died. {{storylink|Plus One (Prime)|Plus One}}

As a plague began to spread through the ship, the Insecticons joined in eradicating the sufferers, at least until Airachnid was brought back online. She soon retook mental control of them and instructed them to destroy all of the Decepticons, however she and the Insecticons were transported to one of Cybertron's moons by [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]]. There, the plague took hold of Airachnid, and she began feeding on the Insecticons. {{storylink|Thirst}}
===''Rise of the Dark Spark''===
Insecticons were shown to had infested the deep underlevels of Cybertron where they were said to be a primitive society where the vast majority followed the strong leaders. Thus, when these stronger Insecticons were present, they deferred to their orders otherwise they would attack any foe that entered their lairs. Megatron dispatched Shockwave, Soundwave and Starscream to the vaults that were rumored to hold the mythical relic known as the [[Dark Spark]]. This saw them for the first time encountering the Insecticons where Shockwave managed to best their leaders namely Hardshell, Kickback and Sharpshot. As a result, the trio joined the ranks of the Decepticons and brought their fellow Insecticons into the fold. However, Shockwave commented that the dominance based Insecticons would only be allies so long as they followed their leaders and if said leaders were not present then they could just as likely turn on the Decepticons. When the Autobots Ironhide and Sideswipe recovered the Dark Spark, they attempted to flee with it where they fought off swarms of Insecticons in the process. {{storylink|Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark (console)|Rise of the Dark Spark (console)}}
[[File:FOC Grimlock vs Insecticons.jpg|thumb|left|upright=1.4|Me Grimlock say I squash you like bug.]]

When Cybertron's core shut down to purge itself of the [[Dark Energon]] corruption, the Insecticons and other creatures of the depths were left deprived of sustenance. With nowhere else to go, the swarms began migrating to the surface, where they came into contact with the Autobots and Decepticons. Shockwave continued his experiments using Insecticons as test subjects, creating new breeds such as [[Insecticon Bruiser|Bruisers]], combining Autobot source code with Insecticon physiology, and [[Insecticon Spitter|Spitters]], which were based on alien insects viewed through the space bridge. The Insecticons served under Shockwave during the last days of the war on Cybertron, particularly after the loss of Megatron and the half-baked rise of Starscream. The majority of Insecticons were easily controlled and guided by Shockwave. The trio of Kickback, Sharpshot and Hardshell were intelligent enough to think for themselves and potentially guide the Insecticon swarms in a new direction, so Shockwave deliberately courted their favor.

[[File:FOC-Jazzvsinsecticons.jpg|thumb|right|upright=1.67|When did video games become so violent and scary?!]]

When Grimlock and the rest of his squadron crash-landed in the Sea of Rust, they encountered a large Insecticon nest. Though they fought, they were overrun and abducted by Shockwave for experiments. Though Grimlock, Swoop, Slug, and Snarl survived, Sludge was not so fortunate and was left behind in stasis lock. Not long afterwards, [[Jazz (WFC)|Jazz]] entered the same hive and discovered Sludge's body, and also encountered Insecticons as he attempted to escape.

After the [[Dinobot (FOC)|Dinobot]] experiments, Shockwave employed the Insecticons to test [[Grimlock (WFC)|Grimlock]] and his new skills. Hardshell used a massive battle mech to push Grimlock to his limits, Kickback taunted Grimlock in a game of turbofox-and-cybermouse through several conflicts, and Sharpshot tortured [[Snarl (FOC)|Snarl]] with his electrical equipment while taunting Grimlock into responding. Unfortunately for the Insecticons, Shockwave's work was a success and the Dinobots tore through their defenses, killing Sharpshot, Kickback, and countless numbers of lesser Insecticons in the process. {{storylink|Transformers: Fall of Cybertron|Fall of Cybertron}}
After Arcee fell from orbit and crashed outside Jasper, Nevada, Airachnid sent a swarm of Insecticons to terminate her. Arcee managed to kill the entire swarm before facing Airachnid herself.

Later, while fighting onto the ''Nemesis'', Airachnid sent a few more Insecticons after Arcee. They were also dispatched with ease. However, the distraction they caused allowed Airachnid to escape.
A number of Insecticons were imprisoned on the Autobot ship ''[[Alchemor (RID)|Alchemor]]'', and they and their stasis pods scattered across the countryside when the ship wrecked on [[Earth]]. When [[Steeljaw (RID)|Steeljaw]] freed Barrage and his [[Mini-Con]] partner Needler, they were able to turn their stasis pod into a duplication machine. Steeljaw and Barrage quickly used the machine to transform a group of Insecticon criminals into a multitudinous army. The Decepticons attempted to use this army to assemble a [[space bridge]] with which to return to Cybertron, but [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]] and his team of Autobots were able to defeat the Insecticons and return them, including Barrage, to stasis. {{storylink|Transformers: Robots in Disguise (mobile game)|''Robots in Disguise'' mobile game}}
But where most of these releases are nigh-identical to the originals, the re-released Micro-Changer blind-bags use the almost-entirely-retooled 2015 Kreon, with slightly-differently-hued plastics than the originals. (It is possible for some of the add-on pieces to be in the older hues.) Insecticon's torso [[tampograph]] has also been reworked to be slightly more detailed, and the formerly-bare legs now have extra detail tampographing on them.
==Notes==
*In the Japanese dub, the Insecticons are quite the Chatty Cathies. Voiced by [[Kensō Katō]], their numerous comedic asides recall his performances as ''[[Beast Wars: Transformers (cartoon)|Beast Wars]]'' [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspeeter]] and ''[[Transformers Animated (cartoon)|Animated]]'' [[Wasp]]inator.
*In the ''Robots in Disguise'' cartoon, the sound an Insecticon makes is changed. Rather than a high pitched squeal like in ''Prime'', it is now a more low pitched roar.
