'''Prime''' is a rank of highest distinction in many ''[[Transformers brand|Transformers]]'' continuities. Typically, it is used as the identification for the leader of the [[Autobot]]s, something that is bestowed only on those that carry the [[Matrix of Leadership]] within them. It is [[Retcon|retroactively]] derived from [[Primus]], the creator of the Transformers.

With the retcon that Primus is one singular entity that exists (and '''must''' exist) threaded through ([[Transformers Animated (franchise)|almost]]) all ''Transformer'' continuities, the term Prime is likewise given one singular origin. It was, first of all, the designation granted by Primus to many of the [[Thirteen|Thirteen original Transformers]] created, by his own hand, at the dawn of the physical universe to crew his planetary form.

In universes where the Transformers speak Japanese, the equivalent rank is '''[[Convoy (rank)|Convoy]]'''.

==Fiction==
===Generation 1 continuity family===
====Marvel ''The Transformers'' comics====
"Prime" did not initially seem to hold any significance as a title or rank.
*Optimus Prime's Marvel Comics ''[[The Transformers Universe (Marvel)|Transformers Universe]]'' profile describes his "Optimus" module as his humanoid robot component and his "Prime" module as his small cart-shaped component that is also known as [[Roller (G1)|Roller]].
*The Decepticons did not know who held the Creation Matrix until [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] calculated with 99.7% certainty that it was Optimus Prime.{{storylink|The New Order}}
*In a flashback to events early in the war, "Optimus Prime" was simply a [[Lieutenant Commander]]. {{storylink|The Flames of Boltax!}}

Nevertheless, "Prime" eventually developed into a title of sorts. A direct lineage of Creation Matrix bearers was established, each of whom took on a derivation of the name of their god Primus. They were [[Prima]], [[Prime Nova]], [[Sentinel Prime (G1)|Sentinel Prime]], [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]], and [[Hot Rod (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Rodimus Prime]]. However, following the lead of the animated movie, [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] briefly bore the Matrix without taking the title of "Prime" in the UK's future continuity.<ref>In [[Target: 2006]] part 7, the time-traveling [[Hot Rod (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Hot Rod]] called the 1986 version of Ultra Magnus "Ultra Magnus" even though he mistook him for the future Ultra Magnus who was the current bearer of the Matrix.</ref>

====''The Transformers'' cartoon====
{{Idw-tfa}}
The evidence for "Prime" being a rank here is weaker than elsewhere, but the case can still be made. Though many Matrix-Bearers are seen, and all are by definition Autobot Leaders, only four are ever named; 2 Primes, 2 not: [[Alpha Trion]], Optimus Prime, [[Ultra Magnus (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Ultra Magnus]], and Rodimus Prime. Without knowing any other names it is hard to make a concrete case here for "Prime" being a title given only to Matrix-Bearers.

It is of note though that if it were, then "Prime" in this continuity would be a military/political title (since it is the "Matrix of Leadership"), rather than the religious title of the Marvel Comics.

''"Prime" is a title/rank similar in use to Marvel Comics. There is a nearly complete lineage of Matrix of Leadership bearers taking the rank. They are: [[Primon]], [[Prima]], [[Prime Nova]], [[Guardian Prime]], [[Zeta Prime (G1)#The Transformers cartoon|Zeta Prime]], [[Sentinel Prime (G1)#Generation 1 cartoon|Sentinel Prime]], [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]], [[Ultra Magnus (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Ultra Magnus]], and [[Hot Rod (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Rodimus Prime]].'' {{storylink|Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac II|The AllSpark Almanac II}}

{{note|Not all Convoys are Primes (and vice-versa). If you can lead [[Antroid]]s to a picnic, you're a Convoy in Japan.}}

====''Beast Wars'' cartoon====
Though there was no evidence of a Prime ruling [[Maximal]] society, they frequently used the term in their society with phrases such as "Who died and made you Prime?" and the sarcastic utterance of "That's just ''Prime''". {{storylink|Beast Wars: Transformers (cartoon)|Beast Wars}}

====Dreamwave ''Generation One'' continuity====
This continuity also establishes Prime as designating the leader of the Autobots, but there is some muddled information. The Prime carried within him the Matrix of Leadership, but it appears that the Matrix doesn't contain the wisdom of past leaders, as that was held on a [[Golden Disk (council)|separate datatrak]]. Also, the Prime did not appoint his successor. A new Prime was chosen by the [[Council of Ancients]], supposedly through divine authority.

It's unknown what powers the Prime shared with the Council of Ancients, but the Primes themselves had several powers. In addition to being commander-in-chief of the Autobot Army, the Prime also had the authority to order a planet wide evacuation. Autobots gave oaths of loyalty to the Prime, and were expected to risk their lives for the Prime's safety (whether the Prime wanted them to or not). {{storylink|The War Within issue 1|The War Within #1}}

There are five known Primes in [[Dreamwave Generation One continuity]], listed in ''More than Meets the Eye'' #8. These are [[Primon|Alpha Prime]], Guardian Prime, Sentinel Prime, Optimus Prime and Rodimus Prime. The list does not specify chronology, and Rodimus Prime never appeared in any actual Dreamwave issues.

====2005 IDW continuity====
[[File:Heavy-TheThirteen.jpg|thumb|left|300px]]

Following the [[God War]] and the subsequent departure of the mythological [[Knights of Cybertron]], the next generation of Cybertronians reverted to a state of barbarism, carving up the planet into a series of smaller kingdoms and villages. From these scattered regions arose the lineage of the Primes—powerful, charismatic Cybertronians that climbed the ranks to become respected leaders. {{storylink|Origin Myths}} {{storylink|The Crucible}} It was into this state of affairs that the Decepticon scientist [[Shockwave (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Shockwave]] arrived, hurled backwards in time from the distant future. Recognizing the political state of Cybertron from his studies into the planet's ancient history, Shockwave sought to guide history along the preordained course that he ''knew'' it must take, all as part of a much grander scheme to ensure the perpetual dominion of the Cybertronian race by building up, and subsequently burning down, every Cybertronian creed and faction. To this end, Shockwave first slew and then impersonated [[Onyx Prime]], adopting his identity and recruiting [[The Fallen|Megatronus]] to unify the planet through conquest, {{storylink|The Falling, Interlude: The First Who Was Named|The First Who Was Named}} slaying those Primes, such as [[Septimus Prime]], who history did not record and thus could not survive into the present day. {{storylink|Origin Myths}}

When Megatronus marched on the [[Crystal City]], "Onyx Prime," pretending to be one of Megatronus's victims, rallied the defenders of Crystal City to fight back, and eventually was able to ratify a truce between Megatronus's [[Darklands|Darklander]]s and the forces of the Crystal City—laying the foundations for the second unification of the planet under the benevolent guidance of the [[Thirteen]]. {{storylink|Origin Myths}} {{storylink|The Falling, Interlude: The First Who Was Named|The First Who Was Named}} Before long, however, the Primes became spoiled and debauched, believing themselves to be innately superior to other Cybertronians. {{storylink|Origin Myths}} Soon, they came to believe that only a Prime could kill another Prime, a sentiment that spread to their followers. {{storylink|The Crucible}}

Encouraged by "Onyx Prime," the Thirteen began their first attempts at interplanetary colonization by invading the world of [[Antilla]]; the conflict ended in a stalemate after an [[Antillan]] scientist created a [[Talisman (G1)|doomsday weapon]] that destroyed all life on the planet, warping it into a [[Unicron/Generation 1|harbringer of death]]. In the wake of this disaster, Onyx manipulated events so that Megatronus and [[Liege Maximo]] would spark the [[First Cybertronian Civil War]], which saw the death of [[Solus Prime]] and the imprisonment of Liege Maximo. {{storylink|Heavy}} The war raged between the tribes for a period and ultimately saw the reign of the Thirteen collapse after [[Galvatron (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Galvatron]] disproved the myth of a Prime's immortality by slaughtering [[Nexus Prime]]. The truth revealed, all the remaining Primes save [[Alpha Trion]] fled Cybertron afterwards. {{storylink|The Crucible}} With Alpha's blessing, [[Nova Prime|Nova Major]] and Galvatron ended the war, and Nova then took on the title, intending to unite Cybertron under a single Prime. {{storylink|The Crucible}}

Supposedly, at least some members of the Thirteen left Cybertron aboard the [[Titan (group)|Titans]], gigantic living ships that carried [[Spark]]-producing [[hot spot (phenomenon)|hot spot]]s. {{storylink|A 'Bot and Her City}} According to legend, thirteen Titans left Cybertron and colonized distant worlds with Transformer life in an attempt to produce a utopic [[Pax Cybertronia]]. {{storylink|Conquerors Part 1: Aphelion|Aphelion}} Left to their own devices and cut off from the string of injustices committed by Nova and his successors, the isolated colonies developed religions that deified the Thirteen and their lineage as living gods. {{storylink|The Sum and Its Parts}} {{storylink|Primeless, Part 2}}

[[File:AllGoodThings-NovaPrimeAndFriends.jpg|thumb|right|250px]]

Nova Prime presided over an era in which the populace believed the Cybertronian race's destiny was in the stars, and commissioned the first [[Ark (G1)|''Ark'' spacecraft]]. {{storylink|Spotlight: Optimus Prime}} The people of Cybertron believed the ''Ark'' was for exploration, but Nova's true goal was aggressive expansionism at the cost of other civilizations. Despite being a Matrix bearer (the exact circumstances of how he acquired the Matrix are unknown) {{storylink|Remain in Light 3 of 5: The Divided Self|The Divided Self}}, he was referred to by [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] as a "false Prime" most likely due to his behaviour betraying the ideals of Primus. {{storylink|Primus: All Good Things}} Nova was thought lost after he disappeared into the [[Benzuli Expanse]] while aboard the ''Ark''. {{storylink|Spotlight: Galvatron}}

Nova was succeeded by [[Nominus Prime]], who rose to become the leader of a corrupt Cybertron where the ruling elite oppressed the lower citizens whose roles in life were determined by the bodies they were built in. His rule ended when a group within the [[Senate]] conspired against him in order to take the power of the Matrix for themselves, {{storylink|Chaos Theory Part 2}} only to find that his Matrix was a fake. They quickly had Nominus killed, covered it up and publicly announced that their head of security [[Sentinel Prime (G1)|Sentinel]], part of the conspiracy, was showing signs of Matrix affinity. {{storylink|Shadowplay, Part 1: Post Hoc|Post Hoc}} Unbeknownst to the Senate, "Sentinel" was a false identity constructed by the tiny [[Titan Master]] [[Infinitus]], who had served [[Nexus Prime]] in ages past and sought to rebuild his master's brutal hegemony where the strong ruled the weak. {{storylink|White Heat}}

Thus Sentinel became Sentinel Prime, who during the [[Clampdown (event)|Clampdown]] served as the head of the Security Services, the chief law enforcement and military body on Cybertron. However, he stressed that he was ultimately subservient to the will of the Senate who enacted the laws he enforced. {{storylink|Megatron Origin issue 3|Megatron Origin #3}} His tenure was a short one, as he was defeated by [[Megatron (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Megatron]] during the first [[Decepticon]] uprising, {{storylink|Megatron Origin issue 4|Megatron Origin #4}} reduced to Infinitus once more, he secretly abandoned his old body and worked to rebuild a new form for himself. {{storylink|Last Light (issue)|Last Light}}

[[File:DanceAmongTheShadows-zetaprime.jpg|thumb|left|250px]]

[[Zeta Prime (G1)|Zeta Prime]] rose to power shortly after the deaths of Sentinel and the old Senate, and on the surface looked to be a change in pace from their corrupt regime. Together with his officer [[Optimus Prime (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Orion Pax]] he created the Autobots to stand against the Decepticon threat. {{storylink|Omega's Conundrum}} In truth he wasn't much better than his predecessors, reinstating the [[Institute]] {{storylink|Remembrance Day}} and growing increasingly ruthless in his methods of fighting the Decepticons, no matter what the New Senate had to say or what the common Cybertronian had to go through. {{storylink|Parasites}} He was destroyed by Megatron after Orion Pax turned against him. {{storylink|Overthrown}}

Shortly after Zeta's death, Orion Pax happened upon the real Matrix, which called out to him and transformed him into Optimus Prime, the first Prime in ages to be chosen by the Matrix. {{storylink|Transformation (issue)|Transformation}} After Cybertron was rendered uninhabitable, Optimus Prime was the apparent highest ranking Autobot, directing the galaxy-spanning conflict to deny the Decepticons conquest of additional planets. In this task, he occasionally sought the guidance of the ancient Autobot and weapon of last resort Omega Supreme. {{storylink|Spotlight: Optimus Prime}} While he was a fair and wise leader, the lineage of corrupt and militant Primes that preceded him had already tarnished the title of Prime in the eyes of [[NAIL|neutral Cybertronians]]. {{storylink|Dinobot Hunt (IDW)|Dinobot Hunt}} With the loss of the Matrix in battle with a creature called the [[D-Void]] and the realization that the neutrals saw him as a warmonger and not a leader, Optimus Prime abandoned his title and went back to being Orion Pax once the war was over. {{storylink|Transformers: The Death of Optimus Prime|The Death of Optimus Prime}} A battle with Nova Prime and encouragement from [[Hot Rod (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Rodimus]] eventually made him realize the actions of his lineage didn't define him, causing him to regain his confidence and begin calling himself Optimus Prime again. {{storylink|Finis Temporis: Dark Cybertron Chapter 9|Finis Temporis}}

Hot Rod called himself "Rodimus Prime" for a while, a name coined by [[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]] in an attempt to appeal to the Autobot's ego. {{storylink|Things Fall Apart, Part 3: "Seasons in Flight"|Seasons in Flight}} He used it until Swindle revealed he had been playing Rodimus while he finished [[Menasor (G1)|a pet project.]] {{storylink|Things Fall Apart, Part 5: "Earthworks"|Earthworks}} Later, Rodimus actually found and bonded with the Matrix {{storylink|Space Opera Part 1: The Stars My Destination|The Stars My Destination}}, but humbled by his previous humiliation, he swore off the Prime name, simply calling himself "Rodimus", and returned the Matrix to Optimus. {{storylink|Space Opera—Final Tableaux: Orphans of the Helix|Orphans of the Helix}}

He still called himself "Rodimus Prime" occasionally when he wanted to sound important, though. {{storylink|Little Victories}}

[[File:TheSumAndItsParts-OptimusMatrix.jpg|thumb|right|250px]]

When Cybertron finally recontacted its former colonies, Optimus Prime travelled to [[Caminus (planet)|Caminus]], where his status as a Matrix bearer prompted bowing when he met the [[Forgefire Parliament]]. {{storylink|The Sum and Its Parts}} The [[Council of Worlds]] soon took shape and Prime discovered, much to his displeasure, that almost all of the various colonies saw him in much the same way. {{storylink|Conquerors Part 1: Aphelion|Aphelion}} Unsure of his place in this rapidly changing postwar world, Prime began leaning on the faith of the colonists' belief in his infallibility as he used his newfound clout to make several controversial decisions, including the annexation of [[Earth]] into Cybertron's new government. {{storylink|All Hail Optimus Part 1: Once Upon a Time on Earth|Once Upon a Time on Earth}}

During this time, Optimus and his forces briefly contended with the reborn Sentinel Prime. Claiming to be the herald of [[Shockwave (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Onyx Prime]]'s return, he eventually travelled to [[Moonbase One|Luna 1]] to raise an undead army of Titans to wipe Cybertron clean. {{storylink|The Last Autobot}}

Optimus' terrestrial peacekeeping force was soon joined by a team of [[Colonist Soldiers|young recruits]] from different colony worlds, who were fanatically devoted to the Prime and began wearing [[mouthplate]]s in order to better emulate Optimus Prime. {{storylink|New Cybertron Part 1: To Walk Among the Chosen|To Walk Among the Chosen}}

However, it soon became clear that the ugly legacy of the Primes was not so easily buried; when "Onyx Prime" returned to Cybertron and was subsequently unmasked as a time-travelling Shockwave, the full scope of his machinations and [[Unicron/Generation 1|Unicron]]'s assault on the galaxy prompted Optimus to wonder if the title of Prime had ever truly meant ''anything''. {{storylink|A Sunrise Dark}} When the Autobots and their allies battled Unicron in Earth's orbit, Optimus finally relinquished the title of Prime for good. ====2019 IDW continuity====
The [[Thirteen]] Primes walked on Cybertron before their age came to a close. When they faded into legend, the [[Artifacts of the Primes]] followed, save the [[Matrix of Leadership]]. Continuing to seek out the prophesied [[Thirteenth Prime]], the Matrix bestowed the rank of Prime onto anyone who carried it, though these people were but stewards until it found the Thirteenth. {{storylink|War World: Prime|Prime}}
During the [[Great War (G1)|Great War]], [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] ascended to become "Rodimus Prime" but later shed the title to become simply "Rodimus". When he later introduced himself to [[Steeljaw (IDW)|Steeljaw]]'s pack, he attempted to use his status as a former Prime to help them remember him only to learn that the group, despite somewhat remembering Optimus Prime, had forgotten the title's significance. {{storylink|Last Bot Standing issue 2|Last Bot Standing #2}}

===Unicron Trilogy===
Prime is indeed a title given to leaders and Matrix-bearers here, as evidenced by both [[Vector Prime]] and [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]], but no other Primes are ever named. In ''[[Transformers: Cybertron (franchise)|Galaxy Force]]'', [[Override (Cybertron)|Override]] (Nitro Convoy), [[Scourge (Cybertron)|Scourge]] (Flame Convoy), [[Evac (Cybertron)|Evac]] (Live Convoy), and [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|Metroplex]] (Megalo Convoy) all hold the title of Convoy as leaders of their respective planets, but this scheme does not carry over into the western translation, and so the Prime appellation does not apply. Likewise, in ''Super Link'', the Japanese version of ''[[Transformers: Energon (franchise)|Energon]]'', [[Rodimus (Energon)|Rodimus]] is known as "Rodimus Convoy", hearkening back to the name of [[Hot Rod (G1)|his G1 predecessor]]. But again, this does not follow through in Hasbro's materials.

Interestingly, Vector Prime is not known as Vector Convoy in Japan, but Vector Prime, while Optimus maintains the traditional Convoy title as Galaxy Convoy.
[[Vector Prime]] was granted guardianship of space-time. The Prime who would become [[The Fallen]] was charged to oversee the force of entropy. [[Nexus Prime|Another of these Primes]] was made the guardian of [[Rarified Energon]]. Logos Prime and Prima's specific functions are still unknown.
Following the War of the [[Thirteen|Original Thirteen Primes]], the [[Covenant of Primus]] decreed there would only be one Prime ruling Cybertron at a time. It was technically [[Primus]]'s right to appoint the Prime and bestow them the Matrix, but gradually his children became ignorant of his presence. It almost seems [[Sentinel Zeta Prime|Sentinel Prime]] was the only Prime between the Age of the Primes and [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus]], as he fought off the [[Quintesson]]s, established the [[Golden Age]] and tried to combat its decline by establishing the [[Functionism|caste system]], to [[Alpha Trion]]'s displeasure. Sentinel was unworthy of the Matrix, and the [[Core]] said it was only after his death that Optimus could receive it for being a Prime was not a status Trion or the High Council could grant. The civil war began and continues as [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] and [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] both sought to be a Prime and bear the Matrix. {{storylink|Transformers: Exodus|Exodus}}

==Fiction==
===Generation 1 continuity family===
====Marvel ''The Transformers'' comics====
*The Decepticons did not know who held the Creation Matrix until [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] calculated with 99.7% certainty that it was Optimus Prime.{{storylink|The New Order}}
*In a flashback to events early in the war, "Optimus Prime" was simply a [[Lieutenant Commander]]. {{storylink|The Flames of Boltax!}}

====''The Transformers'' cartoon====
{{Idw-tfa}}

''"Prime" is a title/rank similar in use to Marvel Comics. There is a nearly complete lineage of Matrix of Leadership bearers taking the rank. They are: [[Primon]], [[Prima]], [[Prime Nova]], [[Guardian Prime]], [[Zeta Prime (G1)#The Transformers cartoon|Zeta Prime]], [[Sentinel Prime (G1)#Generation 1 cartoon|Sentinel Prime]], [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]], [[Ultra Magnus (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Ultra Magnus]], and [[Hot Rod (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Rodimus Prime]].'' {{storylink|Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac II|The AllSpark Almanac II}}

{{note|Not all Convoys are Primes (and vice-versa). If you can lead [[Antroid]]s to a picnic, you're a Convoy in Japan.}}

====''Beast Wars'' cartoon====
Though there was no evidence of a Prime ruling [[Maximal]] society, they frequently used the term in their society with phrases such as "Who died and made you Prime?" and the sarcastic utterance of "That's just ''Prime''". {{storylink|Beast Wars: Transformers (cartoon)|Beast Wars}}

====Dreamwave ''Generation One'' continuity====

It's unknown what powers the Prime shared with the Council of Ancients, but the Primes themselves had several powers. In addition to being commander-in-chief of the Autobot Army, the Prime also had the authority to order a planet wide evacuation. Autobots gave oaths of loyalty to the Prime, and were expected to risk their lives for the Prime's safety (whether the Prime wanted them to or not). {{storylink|The War Within issue 1|The War Within #1}}

====2005 IDW continuity====
[[File:Heavy-TheThirteen.jpg|thumb|left|300px]]

Following the [[God War]] and the subsequent departure of the mythological [[Knights of Cybertron]], the next generation of Cybertronians reverted to a state of barbarism, carving up the planet into a series of smaller kingdoms and villages. From these scattered regions arose the lineage of the Primes—powerful, charismatic Cybertronians that climbed the ranks to become respected leaders. {{storylink|Origin Myths}} {{storylink|The Crucible}} It was into this state of affairs that the Decepticon scientist [[Shockwave (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Shockwave]] arrived, hurled backwards in time from the distant future. Recognizing the political state of Cybertron from his studies into the planet's ancient history, Shockwave sought to guide history along the preordained course that he ''knew'' it must take, all as part of a much grander scheme to ensure the perpetual dominion of the Cybertronian race by building up, and subsequently burning down, every Cybertronian creed and faction. To this end, Shockwave first slew and then impersonated [[Onyx Prime]], adopting his identity and recruiting [[The Fallen|Megatronus]] to unify the planet through conquest, {{storylink|The Falling, Interlude: The First Who Was Named|The First Who Was Named}} slaying those Primes, such as [[Septimus Prime]], who history did not record and thus could not survive into the present day. {{storylink|Origin Myths}}

When Megatronus marched on the [[Crystal City]], "Onyx Prime," pretending to be one of Megatronus's victims, rallied the defenders of Crystal City to fight back, and eventually was able to ratify a truce between Megatronus's [[Darklands|Darklander]]s and the forces of the Crystal City—laying the foundations for the second unification of the planet under the benevolent guidance of the [[Thirteen]]. {{storylink|Origin Myths}} {{storylink|The Falling, Interlude: The First Who Was Named|The First Who Was Named}} Before long, however, the Primes became spoiled and debauched, believing themselves to be innately superior to other Cybertronians. {{storylink|Origin Myths}} Soon, they came to believe that only a Prime could kill another Prime, a sentiment that spread to their followers. {{storylink|The Crucible}}

Encouraged by "Onyx Prime," the Thirteen began their first attempts at interplanetary colonization by invading the world of [[Antilla]]; the conflict ended in a stalemate after an [[Antillan]] scientist created a [[Talisman (G1)|doomsday weapon]] that destroyed all life on the planet, warping it into a [[Unicron/Generation 1|harbringer of death]]. In the wake of this disaster, Onyx manipulated events so that Megatronus and [[Liege Maximo]] would spark the [[First Cybertronian Civil War]], which saw the death of [[Solus Prime]] and the imprisonment of Liege Maximo. {{storylink|Heavy}} The war raged between the tribes for a period and ultimately saw the reign of the Thirteen collapse after [[Galvatron (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Galvatron]] disproved the myth of a Prime's immortality by slaughtering [[Nexus Prime]]. The truth revealed, all the remaining Primes save [[Alpha Trion]] fled Cybertron afterwards. {{storylink|The Crucible}} With Alpha's blessing, [[Nova Prime|Nova Major]] and Galvatron ended the war, and Nova then took on the title, intending to unite Cybertron under a single Prime. {{storylink|The Crucible}}

Supposedly, at least some members of the Thirteen left Cybertron aboard the [[Titan (group)|Titans]], gigantic living ships that carried [[Spark]]-producing [[hot spot (phenomenon)|hot spot]]s. {{storylink|A 'Bot and Her City}} According to legend, thirteen Titans left Cybertron and colonized distant worlds with Transformer life in an attempt to produce a utopic [[Pax Cybertronia]]. {{storylink|Conquerors Part 1: Aphelion|Aphelion}} Left to their own devices and cut off from the string of injustices committed by Nova and his successors, the isolated colonies developed religions that deified the Thirteen and their lineage as living gods. {{storylink|The Sum and Its Parts}} {{storylink|Primeless, Part 2}}

[[File:AllGoodThings-NovaPrimeAndFriends.jpg|thumb|right|250px]]

Nova Prime presided over an era in which the populace believed the Cybertronian race's destiny was in the stars, and commissioned the first [[Ark (G1)|''Ark'' spacecraft]]. {{storylink|Spotlight: Optimus Prime}} The people of Cybertron believed the ''Ark'' was for exploration, but Nova's true goal was aggressive expansionism at the cost of other civilizations. Despite being a Matrix bearer (the exact circumstances of how he acquired the Matrix are unknown) {{storylink|Remain in Light 3 of 5: The Divided Self|The Divided Self}}, he was referred to by [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] as a "false Prime" most likely due to his behaviour betraying the ideals of Primus. {{storylink|Primus: All Good Things}} Nova was thought lost after he disappeared into the [[Benzuli Expanse]] while aboard the ''Ark''. {{storylink|Spotlight: Galvatron}}

Nova was succeeded by [[Nominus Prime]], who rose to become the leader of a corrupt Cybertron where the ruling elite oppressed the lower citizens whose roles in life were determined by the bodies they were built in. His rule ended when a group within the [[Senate]] conspired against him in order to take the power of the Matrix for themselves, {{storylink|Chaos Theory Part 2}} only to find that his Matrix was a fake. They quickly had Nominus killed, covered it up and publicly announced that their head of security [[Sentinel Prime (G1)|Sentinel]], part of the conspiracy, was showing signs of Matrix affinity. {{storylink|Shadowplay, Part 1: Post Hoc|Post Hoc}} Unbeknownst to the Senate, "Sentinel" was a false identity constructed by the tiny [[Titan Master]] [[Infinitus]], who had served [[Nexus Prime]] in ages past and sought to rebuild his master's brutal hegemony where the strong ruled the weak. {{storylink|White Heat}}

Thus Sentinel became Sentinel Prime, who during the [[Clampdown (event)|Clampdown]] served as the head of the Security Services, the chief law enforcement and military body on Cybertron. However, he stressed that he was ultimately subservient to the will of the Senate who enacted the laws he enforced. {{storylink|Megatron Origin issue 3|Megatron Origin #3}} His tenure was a short one, as he was defeated by [[Megatron (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Megatron]] during the first [[Decepticon]] uprising, {{storylink|Megatron Origin issue 4|Megatron Origin #4}} reduced to Infinitus once more, he secretly abandoned his old body and worked to rebuild a new form for himself. {{storylink|Last Light (issue)|Last Light}}
[[File:DanceAmongTheShadows-zetaprime.jpg|thumb|left|250px]]

[[Zeta Prime (G1)|Zeta Prime]] rose to power shortly after the deaths of Sentinel and the old Senate, and on the surface looked to be a change in pace from their corrupt regime. Together with his officer [[Optimus Prime (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Orion Pax]] he created the Autobots to stand against the Decepticon threat. {{storylink|Omega's Conundrum}} In truth he wasn't much better than his predecessors, reinstating the [[Institute]] {{storylink|Remembrance Day}} and growing increasingly ruthless in his methods of fighting the Decepticons, no matter what the New Senate had to say or what the common Cybertronian had to go through. {{storylink|Parasites}} He was destroyed by Megatron after Orion Pax turned against him. {{storylink|Overthrown}}

Shortly after Zeta's death, Orion Pax happened upon the real Matrix, which called out to him and transformed him into Optimus Prime, the first Prime in ages to be chosen by the Matrix. {{storylink|Transformation (issue)|Transformation}} After Cybertron was rendered uninhabitable, Optimus Prime was the apparent highest ranking Autobot, directing the galaxy-spanning conflict to deny the Decepticons conquest of additional planets. In this task, he occasionally sought the guidance of the ancient Autobot and weapon of last resort Omega Supreme. {{storylink|Spotlight: Optimus Prime}} While he was a fair and wise leader, the lineage of corrupt and militant Primes that preceded him had already tarnished the title of Prime in the eyes of [[NAIL|neutral Cybertronians]]. {{storylink|Dinobot Hunt (IDW)|Dinobot Hunt}} With the loss of the Matrix in battle with a creature called the [[D-Void]] and the realization that the neutrals saw him as a warmonger and not a leader, Optimus Prime abandoned his title and went back to being Orion Pax once the war was over. {{storylink|Transformers: The Death of Optimus Prime|The Death of Optimus Prime}} A battle with Nova Prime and encouragement from [[Hot Rod (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Rodimus]] eventually made him realize the actions of his lineage didn't define him, causing him to regain his confidence and begin calling himself Optimus Prime again. {{storylink|Finis Temporis: Dark Cybertron Chapter 9|Finis Temporis}}
When Cybertron finally recontacted its former colonies, Optimus Prime travelled to [[Caminus (planet)|Caminus]], where his status as a Matrix bearer prompted bowing when he met the [[Forgefire Parliament]]. {{storylink|The Sum and Its Parts}} The [[Council of Worlds]] soon took shape and Prime discovered, much to his displeasure, that almost all of the various colonies saw him in much the same way. {{storylink|Conquerors Part 1: Aphelion|Aphelion}} Unsure of his place in this rapidly changing postwar world, Prime began leaning on the faith of the colonists' belief in his infallibility as he used his newfound clout to make several controversial decisions, including the annexation of [[Earth]] into Cybertron's new government. {{storylink|All Hail Optimus Part 1: Once Upon a Time on Earth|Once Upon a Time on Earth}}
===Unicron Trilogy===
Like everyone else on Golden Age Cybertron, the two were born assigned male. {{storylink|An Axe to Break the Ice}} She was one of the many 'bots to abandon the planet due to the [[Great War (G1)|Great War]] and swore never to return. {{storylink|Dissolution Part 1: Some Other Cybertron|Some Other Cybertron}} While travelling the stars, the two met several alien races with both male and female genders and came to realize they were more comfortable as "she". {{storylink|An Axe to Break the Ice}}

During their travels Lug and Anode met many dangers together, but they got separated when Anode went on to train in her profession at a [[Lighthouse|Camien medical facility]]. Some time later, Anode left Caminus and came back to Lug. Anode told her that she missed her too much, and that's why she quit. Lug would come to feel tremendous guilt for the event, thinking that she had ruined Anode's career.
{{storylink|Dissolution Part 4: Bad Moon Rising|Bad Moon Rising}}

[[File:LL1 Lug.jpg|thumb|left|400px]]
Five hundred years ago, Lug and Anode travelled to [[Moonbase Two|Luna 2]] at the request of their mysterious client, the "[[Adaptus|Grand Architect]]". They found themselves being attacked by a [[Decepticon]] [[Cybernought]]; although Anode successfully deployed a forcefield, Lug was still convinced they were going to die. The time-travelling [[Mortilus|Necrobot]] arrived, attempting to rescue them both from what would have been their presumed deaths (as was his habit).

After recovering from the time jump in a stasis capsule, Anode awoke on the [[Necroworld]], and suggested to Lug that they'd been rescued. They were informed of recent events they had missed by [[Ultra Magnus (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Ultra Magnus]]. After this, the two were met by [[Swerve (G1)|Swerve]], who asked them some nonsensical questions under the guise of "background checks". After Anode was alarmed by hearing [[Velocity (G1)|Velocity]]'s name uttered by Swerve, the duo attempted to leave by way of the [[Teleport chamber|teleporter]], but were stopped by [[Hot Rod (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Rodimus]] and [[Drift (G1)|Drift]].

When Rodimus and a small group of Transformers decided to use the teleporter to head back to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] to pick up another ship, Anode stayed behind with the other time-displaced Cybertronians. {{storylink|Dissolution Part 1: Some Other Cybertron|Some Other Cybertron}} After repairing diplomatic relations following Anode's insulting of Ultra Magnus, Lug sat by the Memorial to the Disappeared and played some music to relax before Anode tracked her down. The two discussed their plans for the future and whether or not they owed the Autobots anything, before [[Fangry (G1)|Fangry]] interrupted the discussion by being violently thrown into the memorial by [[Tailgate (G1)|Tailgate]]. When Anode tried to calm the minibot, he backhanded her, sending her flying, and to be impaled on a piece of debris. Panicking, Lug called for help and [[Kaput]] soon arrived. Lug was by Anode's bedside when she awoke and watched as Velocity tried (and failed) to perform a citizen's arrest on Anode before the medic demanded to discuss the [[Lighthouse]]. {{storylink|Dissolution Part 2: Anomie|Anomie}}

Anode explained she was a [[blacksmith]] and the snowflake was a piece of [[Living metal|sentio metallico]] but that she hadn't stolen any as the records said. She'd falsified them to have a pretext to leave the planet. Realizing that she'd been left in the dark about this, Lug rushed out of the room, {{storylink|Dissolution Part 3: A World Misplaced|A World Misplaced}} and fled back to the memorial. Anode followed her back and Lug confessed her feelings of betrayal as she'd always believed ''she'' was the reason that Anode had abandoned her apprenticeship. Anode revealed the role she'd played in the death of a [[protoform]] and faked a theft as an excuse to flee despite her co-workers being understanding and sympathetic. Lug believed that Anode needed to feel hated for what she'd done. Anode offered an apology but when she looked up, Lug was gone...{{storylink|Dissolution Part 4: Bad Moon Rising|Bad Moon Rising}}

...because Lug hadn't ever ''been'' with her on Necroworld. She was just a hallucination that Anode had developed as a result of timesickness; a look at the security camera footage showed Anode exiting her [[stasis pod]] alone and talking to thin air. A despondent Anode checked the names on the Memorial to the Disappeared and mournfully concluded that Lug had not survived the explosion the Necrobot had saved her from. {{storylink|Dissolution Part 5: Modes of Production|Modes of Production}}

[[File:This Machine Kills Fascists - Lug Mark 2.jpg|thumb|right|200px|''She lives, she dies, she lives again!'']]
A disheartened Anode was taken by Kaput, [[Nautica (G1)|Nautica]], and Velocity to where Lug's memorial flowers grew on Necroworld, and Kaput, having made a hobby of studying Censere's archives, explained that after saving Anode he had returned to find Lug barely still alive, allowing him to perform the [[Rites of Transition]] on her. Anode's explosive fury at the violation of her friend's lack of religiousness was cut off by Kaput's continuing: when the Necrobot found someone ''before'' they died, he would transfer the last flicker of their actual Spark into one of his flowers...a flower Kaput now offered to Anode. It only took a moment for Anode to realize the possibilities this and the sentio metallico, returned to her by Nautica, opened, and she bolted for the Necrobot's fortress.

Reaching a laboratory, she recruited Kaput into helping her transfer the Spark-flicker into the "snowflake" to create a protoform, noting that in principle it was no different than an assisted birth. The process seemed to go smoothly, until the new protoform's temperature began to precipitously drop, reminding Anode of her past failings at her calling—failings she determined not to repeat, as she desperately worked to save/revive her friend...successfully, as later she showed off her "new backpack" jubilantly to the returning [[Roller (IDW)|Roller]]. {{storylink|Dissolution Part 6: This Machine Kills Fascists|This Machine Kills Fascists}} After regrowing, Anode confessed the truth to Lug about the Lighthouse. After the two made up and shared an embrace on the field, Lug went to make friends, leading her to play with Roller. She was later part of the group that left Necroworld aboard the deceased [[Skip|Skip]]. {{storylink|After Megatron (A Dissolution Epilogue)|After Megatron}}

[[File:AnAxeToBreakTheIce-survivalpresent.jpg|left|thumb|300px]]

When the Rod Squad took a stop at [[Troja Major]]'s [[Howling Town]], Lug and Anode joined Velocity and Nautica in traversing the town. Nautica found them irritating, complaining how Lug's and Anode's detours slowed them down. Lug was complicit in Anode stealing [[mood pipe]]s from a [[Rust Giant]]. After fleeing for their lives, she received the stolen item as a survival gift from her conjunx, and was successfully enamored. Lug commented on how much the market had changed in the past five centuries which Velocity explained was due to a spiritual ley line the market was built on, leading Troja Major to a rebranding as the bereavement capital of the galaxy. After Nautica shooed away a [[Catharsian]] merchant praying on Lug, she followed Anode on the trail of some [[Living metal|sentio metallico]].

The couple found [[Infinite|a newborn mech]] (with a coffin alternate mode) before they were ambushed by the [[Black Block Consortia]]. When Anode refused to step aside however, Lug tackled her to safety which allowed the Consortia a clean shot at the newborn, killing him. As Anode grieved, their old friend Wipe-Out made himself known and spirited the two away to a bar where the three of them could compare notes. After the femmes explained their new genders, Wipe-Out explained the seeming hunt for [[blacksmith]]s and who the Black Block Consortia was. When the trio concluded the Grand Architect was on their tail again, they tried to cheese it only for his troops to teleport into the bar. {{storylink|An Axe to Break the Ice}} After Anode had thoroughly embarrassed herself thinking [[Flame (Marvel)|Flame]] was the Grand Architect, she turned to jet mode and flew Lug and Wipe-Out to safety. Returning to the funeral compound where they'd found the mysterious mech, Lug stood off to the side while Wipe-Out realized the mech had been able to turn into virtually anything before they got a call from Velocity. When the trio arrived, Nautica's super-sized alternate mode burst out of the building before the group made a brisk getaway. {{storylink|Chasing the Infinite}}

Back aboard Skip, Lug helped Anode engage in a prank war with Swerve by repainting herself and pretending to be Swerve’s biggest fan, saying she would start “Swervecon,” and she witnessed Swerve’s retaliation when Velocity called Anode in for a medical exam to inform her she had a “second head” in her rear armature. Anode, furious at the false scare, thus upped the ante. Lug chatted with [[Rung (G1)|Rung]] while the two held a datapad, but she had to help pull a magnetized Anode off Ultra Magnus’s front as the hijinks conflict continued, so Lug had to pull her off with all her might. This act threw herself to the ground and her beloved into a grief-stricken [[Cyclonus (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Cyclonus]], who attempted to cut her down where she knelt. Anode managed to somersault out of the way, so the blade cut across [[Rewind (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Rewind's]] chest instead. The ship erupting in chaos, Lug also had a moment of pause when [[Ten]] unexpectedly spoke.
{{storylink|Sardines}}

On Ten's instructions, the crew modified the ship so they could jump through "compressed space" and get to a [[Mederi]] center so they could save the ailing [[Ratchet (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Ratchet]]. However, as Skip was contracting in on them as his body returned to regular size, Anode and the others were forced to abandon ship and were subsequently exposed to compressed space, seemingly killing them and bringing them to the [[Transformer afterlife|Afterspark]]. {{storylink|The Everlasting Voices (1): Metastasis|Metastasis}} Not entirely concerned or convinced that they were dead, Anode and Lug went straight to stealing soft [[ununtrium]] from a temple, which earned them a scolding from Nautica. The couple then went for the giant [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]] floating in the Afterspark's sky to see what they could pillage from it. {{storylink|The Everlasting Voices (2): The God War|The God War}} What they didn't realize however was that the "Afterspark" was in fact the original Mederi center, designed by the [[Omega Guardian]]s to euthanize its patients by generating illusions that made them happy and ready to "ascend". As Anode and Lug gathered under the Matrix so they could "ascend", Rodimus and his group destroyed Mederi's power source, shattering the illusion. Before the team could figure out where to go from there, they were approached by an army of [[Sparkeater (creature)|Sparkeaters]] created from the crews of the ''[[Lost Light]]''. {{storylink|The Everlasting Voices (3): You Are Here|You Are Here}}

After Rodimus recognized the Sparkeaters as ''Lost Light'' crew, Anode questioned whether they were actually a threat. Discussion ensued as to what to do until [[Brainstorm (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Brainstorm]] was attacked by Sparkeater-[[Perceptor (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Perceptor]]. When [[Grimlock (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Grimlock]] was dropped from high altitude into the attackers to cut them down, Lug exclaimed to Anode that "this isn't normal!" After the group's subsequent retreat from the Sparkeaters and team-up with allies aboard Wipe-Out's Q-class ship, Anode and her Conjunx joined the armed boarding team, using said vessel to land on the ''Lost Light'', and followed Rodimus off the ship into the ''Lost Light's'' shuttle bay. Almost immediately all the doors began shutting around them, cutting off Rodimus and Cyclonus from the others. Then the ship's oil reservoir poured on top of them, the ship's oil reservoir filled entirely with scraplets, causing Anode to have a panic attack. Lug tried reassuring her as those same Scraplets, merged into one, showed themselves. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 1): A Dance Before Dying|A Dance Before Dying}}

Anode feared that the scraplets were going to eat the team, but Ultra Magnus tried to reassure them by pointing out scraplets didn't actually have a digestive system. After Grimlock's attempt to slay the creatures didn't succeed, Anode, Lug, and Drift were grabbed by the scraplets, before they turned their attention on Whirl. As the scraplets turned out to be the adoptees of Whirl, they all survived and reunited with Rodimus and Cyclonus, just in time for space to tear itself a new one. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 2): Lūstrāre|Lūstrāre}} The rift sucked in the ''Lost Light'', depositing it in what according to Lug's reading of the navicomp was the Benzene Cluster, now filled with duplicate Cybertrons. With the engines drained, the crew disembarked, and Anode used her metallurgical skills to analyse the planet, finding it "tasted" new. Almost immediately, several Black Block Consortia ships showed up, and the troops held everyone at gunpoint, ready to shoot them dead before some quick talking on Nautica's part got them transported to a cell instead. Their host insisted on Rodimus taking a small delegation, but Rodimus counter-insisted on taking everyone, Lug included. Lug pointed out Mederi followed them through the rift, and remarked after Rodimus comment that the rift was resealing itself that perhaps it may not have been a rift, and instead way of bringing Mederi to where they were now. From their cell, the team witnessed the end result of the Grand Architect's plan, which was to use five copies of Cybertron as a "God Gun" to drill through into another universe in order to fight an other-dimensional intruder. As everyone watched, a fleet of ships poured through from the Functionist universe, led by Megatron. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 3): Farsickness|Farsickness}}

As it quickly transpired, Megatron was not the enemy the Grand Architect had been preparing for. Rather, it was Functionist Cybertron, engineered into a representation of Primus himself, an alt-mode that Riptide had pondered since when Cybertron had ever had, which Lug uncertainly suggested was "since now?" Megatron explained over the phone [[Time phone|phone]] to Rodimus that this Primus-like form had been an end goal of the Functionists, a homeworld, avatar, and galactic deathbringer for their genocide against non-Cybertronian life. As the alternate Cybertron destroyed the God Gun, Rodimus and Megatron bickered, until the Grand Architect revealed himself. Megatron had his ship shoot out the Worldsweeper's windows, sucking several of Team Rodimus, Lug among them, out into space, where Megatron had them pulled in. As Megatron expositied on what he'd been up to, the Magnificence chimed in with its proposal, that they destroy the Functionist Primus, prompting Anode to point out how selective it was being with its interjections. However, Megatron revealed a complication: They ''couldn't'' destroy the alternate Cybertron, since it was still populated. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 4): The Return of the King|The Return of the King}}

As everyone rejoined onboard the ''Lost Light'', the Magnificence spoke up again, revealing there was a way to defeat the Functionists; have Rung create three Matrixes and unleash them inside the fake Primus' brain, cog and spark chamber. Cyclonus, not willing to sacrifice Tailgate to this plan, vetoed it, so an alternative plan was suggested, of using more Matrixes to overload Vector Sigma, purging the Council entirely. Anode who suggested using Cybertron's Hot Spots as the attack sites, and Lug asked if it was even possible for Rung to make that many. However, the Magnificence objected to this plan, revealing itself to be the voice of the Omega Guardians, wishing to use the false Primus's destruction to return to the corporeal universe and devour it. Then Nickel crushed the Magnificence, shutting them up, and leaving the ''Lost Light'' crew to save the universe themselves. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 5): The Unremembering|The Unremembering}}

[[File:ASparkAmongEmbers-smoochy.jpg|left|350px|thumb|Die mad about it.]] Part one of that involved finding a way to get the fake Primus to turn back into a planet so they could access the Hot Spots, a problem fortunately solved by the timely arrival of Luna-1 hitting it in the back of the head. With one of the twelve Matrixes provided by Rung in his last act, Anode and Lug (and Wipe-Out) went to Sansaw Sanserre, where the Functionist Council's goons were waiting for them. Facing them down, the two exchanged a kiss and a mutual declaration of love. However, a new problem presented itself, as the Matrixes refused to open. Rodimus gave the teams a pep talk as they were besieged from all sides, which proved enough to get Lug to open her Matrix as Anode watched. With that, the Council were annihilated and the universe saved. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 6): A Spark Among Embers|A Spark Among Embers}}

In the aftermath, Anode and Lug joined the ''Lost Light'' crew on their "victory lap", before the ship was to be decommissioned. On the way, Brainstorm, Nautica and Perceptor conducted an experiment to duplicate the ship in another universe, where they would be free to explore forever. In [[Swerve's|"Swerve's"]], the two sat at the bar and talked with Bluestreak, before Anode suggested what to do next: Settle down on Luna 1 and raise some kids, to which Lug clinked her glass with Anode's. As everyone departed, Lug called out to everyone to keep in touch, before she and Anode made their own way.

Despite Lug's promise, however, neither she or Anode attended Ratchet's funeral in the far future, after he died of age-related burnout.

Meanwhile, in another corner of the multiverse, the experiment produced a duplicate ''Lost Light'', with its own version of Anode and Lug, ready to set off into the unknown. {{storylink|How To Say Goodbye And Mean It: Part 2}}

[[File:ShiningArmor1-EnergonSynthesizer.jpg|thumb|right|300px]]

After [[Rom]] had rescued a [[protoform]] from the [[Gray Area]] and brought it back to [[Elonia]], the Solstar doctors built the '''energon synthesizer''' to keep it alive and allow its growth into [[Stardrive]].

Take a wild guess what it synthesizes.

==Fiction==
===2005 IDW continuity===
Energon synthesizers were built in the war but proved inefficient in fully fuelling up their users, forcing the Decepticons to go the mundane route of conquering backwater worlds for power. {{storylink|Shining Armor issue 2|Shining Armor #2}} {{storylink|Shining Armor issue 3|Shining Armor #3}}

To build Stardrive's synthesizer, Rom returned to the crash site within the Gray Area and retrieved a sample of [[energon]]. The scientists of the [[Solstar Order]] soon constructed a machine to synthesize it which allowed Stardrive to take shape and grow. As the Solstar Order was ignorant of energon's name, the machine was simply dubbed a fuel synthesizer. While recharging at ''[[Orchid Crossing]]'', Stardrive commented that it was the only thing that made her life feel okay. {{storylink|Shining Armor issue 1|Shining Armor #1}}

When [[Vekktral]] allied himself with the [[Decepticon]]s, promising to turn over Stardrive, [[Starscream (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Starscream]] deduced that the Solstar Order must have either had an energon synthesizer to keep her alive or a large natural energon source. {{storylink|Shining Armor issue 2|Shining Armor #2}} When the Seeker found it, he mocked Stardrive for not knowing how valuable it was before [[Ultra Magnus (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Bumblebee]] arrived to stop his plans. {{storylink|Shining Armor issue 1|Shining Armor #1}}

After a [[Dire Wraith]] had merged with [[Sky Blast (G1)|Sky Blast]] and the resulting abomination went on a rampage, Starscream decided the Dire Wraiths could serve as cannon fodder as he and [[Doomwings (G1)|Doomwings]] retrieved the energon synthesizer. The Wraith/Cybertronian hybrid however tore Doomwings apart so Starscream tried again with [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] only for Ultra Magnus to send ''Orchid Crossing'' tumbling into [[Xetaxxis]]. Starscream then gave the evacuation order and decided the Decepticons would simply pick retrieve the synthesizer from the wreckage. {{storylink|Shining Armor issue 2|Shining Armor #2}}

Upon Bumblebee questioning why the Decepticons would remain on Xetaxxis, Stardrive revealed the existence of the synthesizer to the [[Autobot]]s and forcing them into an awkward alliance with the [[Space Knight]]s to prevent the Decepticons from getting it. After failing to save Xetaxxians from Starscream, Stardrive bargained with the Seeker that she would give him the synthesizer in exchange for him and his forces leaving Xetaxxis. {{storylink|Shining Armor issue 3|Shining Armor #3}} Starscream tried to get Stardrive to join the Decepticons as a bonus but was chased away by Rom and Livia. The latter put forth the idea of detonating the synthesizer (an explosion of 2.27 x 10<sup>41</sup> megajoules) to sterilize half the planet prompting Stardrive to snap at her hypocrisy before she decided to outright abandon the order of the [[Space Knight]]s, strapping the synthesizer to the back of her jet mode and flying off. She didn't get very far before Livia shot her out of the sky. The synthesizer fell to the ground while the Camien opted to fight Livia. {{storylink|Shining Armor issue 4|Shining Armor #4}}

After being betrayed by Vekktral, Starscream decided to let his enemies destroy themselves and made a run for the synthesizer. Upon retrieving it however, Stardrive brutally attacked him, prompting him to retreat but not before he detonated the synthesizer as cover. The resulting explosion sterilized 48% of Xetaxxis. Reporting on the events to their respective leaders, both Bumblebee and Starscream kept secret the existence of the synthesizer. {{storylink|Shining Armor issue 5|Shining Armor #5}}
In 2017, when discussing the [[Talisman (G1)|Talisman]] rendering much of Cybertron's energon unsuitable for Cybertronian consumption, Starscream <s>knew the Solstar Order was good at synthesizing energon</s> had a feeling the Solstar Order could help with the energon crisis. {{storylink|The Dead Come Home, Part 1 (of 2)|The Dead Come Home, Part 1}}
Starscream's intelligence operatives had been keeping an eye on [[Alpha Trion (SG)|Alpha Trion]] and his "cult" for a long time. Starscream believed he was a simple crackpot and nothing more, an assertion Prowl disputed. Starscream was consulted by [[Optimus Prime (TransTech)|Optimus Prime]] when [[Ratbat (TransTech)|Senator Ratbat]] came to them, requesting that an outworlder-of-interest, [[Breakaway (Classics)|Breakaway]], be examined more thoroughly, though it meant Breakaway would not survive. Though the outworlder's two companions had fallen in with Alpha Trion, Starscream was certain this would amount to nothing. {{storylink|Transcendent: Part 4}}

He was wrong. Not only did he have to step in personally when Alpha Trion's group raided the [[Transwarp Complex]], {{storylink|Transcendent: Part 6}} but he also learned the the elder's group might have had something to do with the murder of [[RoboCo]] CEO [[Bulletbike (TransTech)|Bulletbike]]. After meeting with Commander [[Cheetor (TransTech)|Cheetor]] and his subordinate, [[Stungun (TransTech)|Stungun]], it became clear that [[Topspin (Classics)|someone]] was somehow able to swap [[Spark|sparks]] effortlessly between TransTechs and "lowtechs"—a frightening scenario, indeed. Starscream was left with only one way to deal with this conspiracy: He confronted [[Bulletbike (G2)|their only suspect]], a "lowtech" who had smuggled himself into Bulletbike's body somehow. Starscream was not happy. {{storylink|I, Lowtech}}
Starscream was one of the many TransTechs knocked offline due to a surge in the Global Net. His unconscious form was found by [[Cheetor (TransTech)|Cheetor]] and [[Stungun (TransTech)|Stungun]]. Later, when the cause of the surge, a [[Waruder]] invasion, had been dealt with, Starscream and the rest of the TransTechs became functional once more. Later still, Starscream made an announcement alongside Megatron, informing the general populace that all probes in the [[Tyran]] Cluster had gone dark to Axiom Nexus's instruments. After the [[Shroud]] had fully fallen, Megatron and Shockwave departed for the [[New Quintessa|Ejoornus System]] to investigate the possibility of piercing the Shroud. Starscream ''oh so reluctantly'' took control of all security issues on Cybertron in their absence, civilian and military, and named himself Directorate General. [[Blackarachnia (TransTech)|Blackarachia]] was appointed Vice Directorate of Cybertronian Intelligence to cover his old job, over Prowl; suspiciously, a Blackarachnia now riven with angry bigotry against offworlders. Neither the Autobots nor Megatron were happy about Starscream's power grab. {{storylink|Rook - Axiom Nexus News: Investigative Journalist|Rook - Axiom Nexus News, 2/12/2016}}
When Rook continued to pass comment on Starscream on news broadcasts {{storylink|Rook - Axiom Nexus News: Investigative Journalist|Rook - Axiom Nexus News, 3/3/2016}}, he was abruptly taken away to [[Serenity Spa]], the Ministry of Information's thoughtcrime "correction" facility. '''As Grimlock runs amok on Earth, Ultra Magnus gathers allies to topple Straxus’s Decepticon war machine.'''

==Synopsis==
''With [[Megatron (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Megatron]] and [[Shockwave (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Shockwave]]'' both ''out of the picture, things didn't get any easier for the [[Autobot]]s on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. In fact, as [[Punch (G1)|Counterpunch]] explains, things only got worse...''

When he first appointed him to the role, Shockwave had assumed that [[Straxus (G1)|Straxus]] would be mere placeholder, content to keep Shockwave's seat warm until he returned... but Shockwave underestimated his lieutenant's own ambitions, for Straxus wasted no time in carving out an empire of his own. Straxus and his fellow Decepticon leaders [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]], and [[Scorponok (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Scorponok]] each control a portion of Cybertron—but their alliance is an uneasy one. After one such unproductive meeting, Straxus confers with Counterpunch at his private [[smelting pool]] as they watch the latest round of executions. Straxus asks Counterpunch if he thinks Megatron will ever return, and [[Transformers '84 issue 0|Counterpunch opines that it isn't likely]]. Galvanized by this response, Straxus orders the reactivation of [[Project Dreadnought]], ready to turn his sights on the galaxy.

Of course, Punch ''can't'' allow this to happen, and the moment the double-agent returns to [[Autobase]] he immediately informs [[Ultra Magnus (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Ultra Magnus]] of this new development. To take out the planetary engines once and for all, they'll need time, resources, and a heavy-hitting team, all assets that Magnus can't scrounge up. As if to undercut his point, Magnus receives a desperate transmission from [[Fortress Maximus (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Fortress Maximus]] as Scorponok's forces overrun his current position. Faced with the enormity of the burden of leadership, and the unenviable task of whipping the faltering Autobot resistance back into shape, Magnus briefly despairs until [[Impactor (G1)|Impactor]] and [[Roadbuster (G1)|Roadbuster]] arrive. Impactor points out that, although Ultra Magnus isn't [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]], that's not a ''bad'' thing: if the war's changing, then perhaps Optimus appointed him ''because'' the Autobots needed an fresh new leader capable of adapting tactics. And, having overheard Magnus's conversation with Punch, Impactor is interested by Ultra Magnus's talk of a "wrecking crew..."

Far away, on prehistoric [[Earth]], [[Grimlock (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Grimlock]]'s still juiced up on raw [[energon]] as he rampages through the jungle, unaware that Punch is remotely monitoring his progress using one of Shockwave's spare [[auto-assembly drone]]s. Grimlock storms back towards the ''[[Ark (G1)|Ark]]''; unfortunately, however, the crash has also damaged the ''Ark''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s [[Aunty|AUNTIE]] computer and left her unable to distinguish Autobot from Decepticon. As such, AUNTIE identifies the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobot]] leader as a threat to her "cargo" and retaliates by hastily constructing new bodies for five of the Autobot minds encoded into the ship's [[mind bank]], downloading copies of their engrams, but not their [[spark]]s, into these forms to create an ad-hoc platoon of emotionless warriors. Meanwhile, [[Dirge (G1)|Dirge]], [[Ramjet (G1)|Ramjet]], and [[Thrust (G1)|Thrust]] recover from their [[scraplet]]-induced paralysis aboard the ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]''; correctly deducing that Shockwave's double-crossed them, the three set out to find and take revenge on the scientist, wherever he might be on the primitive planet below them. Thus, they're the first Cybertronians to stumble across the crashed ''Ark'' and run afoul of AUNTIE's team: [[Tracks (G1)|Tracks]], [[Grapple (G1)|Grapple]], [[Smokescreen (G1)|Smokescreen]], [[Hoist (G1)|Hoist]], and [[Skids (G1)|Skids]]. The three fliers are immediately unsettled by the cold, ruthless attacks of these facsimile "Autobots", and not even Dirge's infamous psychological attacks have any effect on the mindless drones. And, as the battle rages, neither side sees Grimlock barge his way through the crossfire until it's too late. In response, AUNTIE brings a trio of [[Guardian (Marvel)|Guardian]] droids online and sics them on the Dinobot.

Back on Cybertron, Autobots across the planet struggle on against overwhelming odds—Autobots like the brave warrior [[Star Saber (Victory)|Star Saber]]. Alone against an entire Decepticon force, Star Saber refuses to give his nemesis [[Deathsaurus (Victory)|Deathsaurus]] the satisfaction of surrender, and instead summons his [[V-Star|flying battle platform]] to make a dynamic escape! Once airborne, Star Saber's innermost robot form receives a transmission from Ultra Magnus: the new Autobot leader needs him at Autobase, as part of his new team to stop Straxus. Meanwhile, at Autobase, Impactor introduces his new special operations unit to Punch—a team he's dubbed the "[[Wrecker]]s"!

Back on Earth, Grimlock tears his way through one Guardian robot after the next, but the exertion quickly drains his power high; as Grimlock gradually comes to, he remembers that he needs to find and rescue the other four Dinobots, casualties of their recent battle against Shockwave. It's unfortunate for him, then, that AUNTIE doesn't intend for him to leave anytime soon... because, in desperation, she's reactivated ''Megatron''!
==Notes==
===Continuity notes===
* Marvel's US and UK comics featured [[Straxus (G1)|Straxus]], [[Scorponok (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Scorponok]], and [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]] as Decepticon leaders; here, we see them ruling Cybertron together in Megatron's absence, each controlling a portion of Decepticon-occupied [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Much like Furman's ''[[The Transformers: Regeneration One|Regeneration One]]'' series, ''Transformers '84'' plays pretty loose with Marvel's UK comics, but for completion's sake we'd point out that this entire sequence of events ''is'' at odds with the UK story "[[Cybertron: The Middle Years!]]", where Straxus climbed the ranks by himself and succeeded [[Trannis]] to become Decepticon leader.
* The [[Pretender]]s [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]], [[Octopunch (G1)|Octopunch]], and [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]] all make appearances. In a clever bit of continuity, however, they're all shown in their inner robot forms, since Scorponok won't invent Pretender technology until [[Pretender to the Throne!|US #40]], four million years from now.
* Straxus and Counterpunch make a few nods to last year's [[Transformers '84 issue 0|issue #0]]: in his meeting with Scorponok and Thunderwing, Straxus mentions a "token search effort" to find Megatron, referring to the reconnaissance team that will eventually land on Earth in the year [[1017]], the same one that "Counterpunch" will eventually infiltrate and bring down from within. When Straxus asks Counterpunch's opinion if Megatron will ever return, Counterpunch is skeptical; in #0, he learned from [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]] that Prime deliberately sacrificed himself and his troops in a suicide gambit to lure Megatron offworld in the hopes of ending the war. As Counterpunch's narration points out, however, Optimus ''didn't'' foresee Megatron's absence creating a power vacuum that would enable the rise of Straxus.
* As Straxus watches the latest round of Autobot executions, a legion of [[harvester unit]]s, which first appeared in [[The Smelting Pool!|Marvel US #17]], are shown dumping their unfortunate victims into [[Darkmount (Cybertron)|Darkmount]]'s [[smelting pool]]. They're drawn a bit differently from their appearance in that issue, however; they sport steam shovel-style buckets instead of mechanical arms.
* [[Fortress Maximus (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Fortress Maximus]] first appeared in the [[Ring of Hate!|first issue]] of the ''[[The Transformers: Headmasters|Headmasters]]'' miniseries as an Autobot commander disillusioned with the war for Cybertron. Here, Maximus is shown fighting alongside the future [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmaster]]s and [[Targetmaster (technology)|Targetmaster]]s he commanded in ''Headmasters'' #1, and his weariness is already setting in as he openly questions his role in the war to Ultra Magnus.
* Maximus and his men battle against the many Decepticon 'masters-to-be who will eventually pursue them to the planet [[Nebulos]]. Although their location is not stated in this issue, it's a reasonable guess that they're fighting in the [[Manganese Mountains]], their stated theater of engagement in the ''Headmasters'' miniseries.
* Impactor refers to Ultra Magnus as "Cybertron's greatest warrior", the title [[Xaaron]] gave him in the ''[[Target: 2006]]'' storyline in the UK comics.
* Punch's narration notes that the crash damaged AUNTIE and left her unable to determine friend from foe; although she never really appeared in the US comics after her brief role in [[The Transformers (issue)|issue #1]], this "psychosis" ''did'' play a major role in the UK story "[[Raiders of the Last Ark]]", in which she appeared using the glowing yellow face she sports in this issue. The [[Guardian (Marvel)|Guardian]] droids she deploys against Grimlock debuted in that story, and later jumped across the pond to play a role in [[Yesterday's Heroes!|Marvel US #60]] when [[Simon Furman]] took over from [[Bob Budiansky]]. Grimlock going up against the droids also evokes the two-part storyline in UK issues [[The Wrath of Guardian!|#31]] and [[The Wrath of Grimlock!|#32]].
* To stop Grimlock, Auntie downloads the engrams of five Autobots into new bodies from the ship's [[mind bank]]: [[Tracks (G1)|Tracks]], [[Grapple (G1)|Grapple]], [[Smokescreen (G1)|Smokescreen]], [[Hoist (G1)|Hoist]], and [[Skids (G1)|Skids]]... but the narration specifically notes that these makeshift bodies lack [[spark]]s—they're just copies of the genuine article. As [[Simon Furman]]'s author commentary notes, when [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]] brings them online in [[Rock and Roll-Out!|Marvel US #14]], he'll transfer their frozen sparks back into their bodies and truly bring them back to life (but see our "continuity discrepancies" section from our article on [[Secrets & Lies issue 2|last issue]] for more on that.)
* Make way for the [[Wrecker]]s! Everyone's favorite special ops unit first debuted in the UK continuity and later received an origin story in "Middle Years", though the details between this story and that one don't really match up. There, they were the team [[Xaaron|Emirate Xaaron]] had assembled to assassinate Trannis, while in this story they appear to have been handpicked by [[Impactor (G1)|Impactor]] instead. Either way, the group consists of their classic lineup from the Marvel UK continuity: Impactor, [[Roadbuster (G1)|Roadbuster]], [[Whirl (G1)|Whirl]], [[Twin Twist]], [[Topspin (G1)|Topspin]], and [[Rack'n'Ruin (G1)|Rack'n'Ruin]].
* The reactivated Megatron leaks crackling energy from his eyes—he's tapping [[antimatter]] from a black hole. This ability first appeared in his original, unabridged [[Tech Spec]]s, but has only ever seen very sparing use through fiction; he used this power once in [[Raiders of the Last Ark|Marvel UK #20]], and again in [[Resurrection!|#104]]. Younger readers might remember [[Megatron (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|IDW's Megatron]] pulling off a similar feat in [[The Dying of the Light Part 6: Do Not Go Gentle|issue #55]] of ''[[The Transformers: More than Meets the Eye|More than Meets the Eye]]'' to kill the [[Decepticon Justice Division]].

===Continuity discrepancies===
* In his author commentary, Furman notes that no one ever explained [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] showing up as "regular" Decepticons in the ''Headmasters'' miniseries. Now, this ''is'' true in the US series, where they just showed up along with Scorponok and all the other new Decepticons in that series... but the UK-exclusive "[[The Legacy of Unicron!]]", written by Furman himself, ''did'' offer an explanation—the pair got involved in a [[time portal]] accident that sent them back to the Great War.

===Transformers references===
* [[Star Saber (Victory)|Star Saber]] and his foe [[Deathsaurus (Victory)|Deathsaurus]] didn't appear in the [[Marvel Comics continuity]]—they hail from the Japanese-exclusive ''[[Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers: Victory (cartoon)|Transformers: Victory]]'' anime. Naturally, his introduction takes the opportunity to squeeze in a few ''Victory'' references.
** Star Saber remotely pilots the [[V-Star]] battle platform, then uses it to make a quick getaway; in the cartoon, he could combine with this to form a larger "[[Super Mode|super mode]]".
** As he remotely controls the V-Star, Star Saber gets the opportunity to sling one of his cartoon catchphrases used during his power-up sequence: "Battle Up!"
** Finally, as he flies away from the battlefield, Star Saber ejects his innermost robot from his robot mode and pilots his jet form from within. If you haven't watched the ''Victory'' cartoon, you'd be forgiven for thinking him some kind of Headmaster—he's actually a ''[[Brainmaster]]'', an entirely different group of tiny gimmick robots!
* During his battle, Star Saber shoots a pair of Decepticons colored to resemble [[Darkwing (G1)|Darkwing]] and [[Dreadwind (G1)|Dreadwind]].
* With Fortress Maximus's forces in retreat, Ultra Magnus orders them to fall back to the [[Point Omega|Omega Point]], here presumably simply a pre-designated position.

===Real-world references===
* Straxus describes his alliance with Scorponok and Thunderwing as an "{{w|axis of evil}}", in reference to then-President {{w|George W. Bush}}'s controversial 2002 State of the Union address.
* Dirge desires to see the Coneheads "rainin' fear an' loathin' on (Shockwave's) sorry aft!", likely referencing the {{w|Hunter S. Thompson}} novel {{w|Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas}}.

===Errors===
* On page one, [[Hun-Gurrr (G1)|Hun-Gurrr]] is miscolored to resemble [[Stranglehold]].
* On panel one of page five, Counterpunch refers to Straxus as Shockwave's "erstwhile replacement", but [https://www.lexico.com/definition/erstwhile|"erstwhile" means "former"], and "former replacement" makes no sense in this context. Perhaps he meant to say "ersatz"? Although that's [https://grammargeddon.com/2016/12/20/when-the-right-word-is-still-the-wrong-word| not much better].
* On page twenty, Punch says that AUNTIE had gone to "Defcon-Ninety". Since Defcon One is the highest threat level, he either has a very low opinion of Megatron, or (more probably) it's another mistake.

===Other trivia===
* [[Springer (G1)|Springer]] appears pretty prominently in two of this comic's three covers, but nowhere in the actual comic itself. In UK continuity, Springer ''was'' a pretty crucial member of the Wreckers... so could this be a dropped plot point? Foreshadowing for the finale? You decide!
* Originally solicited for May 13th, this issue was pushed back to September as a result of [[IDW Publishing]] temporarily suspending operations.

[[File:ArchforceArt.jpg|upright=1.4|thumb|MEGATRON MAY OR MAY NOT RULE!]]

'''Archforce''' is a powerful and dangerous "Warrior Leader" willing to destroy everything in his path to fulfill his mission: defeating the [[Autobot]]s. Enemy camps fall before the speed and strength of his tank mode and he knows no weakness.<ref>Archforce's on-package [[bio]] [http://tftechspecs.com/pics1/11210.jpg (scan at TFTechSpecs.com)]</ref> Perhaps except for his own mental instability.

In some universes Archforce is a fiercely loyal [[Decepticon]] who volunteered for [[Project Re-Birth]] in order that... ''oh who are we kidding?'' He didn't ''volunteer''. [[Straxus (G1)|Straxus]] strapped him to a table kicking and screaming while techs vivisected and rebuilt his body in the image of [[Megatron (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Megatron]]—all part of a too-elaborate-by-half scheme of Straxus's to regain control of the Decepticon army.

==Fiction==
===Marvel ''The Transformers'' comics===
{{Note|The original comic version of Archforce was not named, and was made into Archforce by [[retcon]] in a [[2015]] "[[Ask Vector Prime]]" entry.}}
A hapless Decepticon trooper was forced to become part of [[Project Re-Birth]] by [[Straxus (G1)|Straxus]] which rebuilt his body in the image of Megatron. {{storylink|Two Megatrons!}}

Later on Cybertron, "Megatron" was tormented by strange memories of medical torture and disassembly amid flashbacks to Straxus's attempts to possess his body. {{storylink|Mind Games}}

Soon, ''another'' Megatron related his discovery of the hidden lab in Straxus's base where the trooper was surgically reconstructed into a replica of Megatron's own body which was then possessed by Straxus... who had in turn been overwhelmed by a copy of Megatron's own memories and believed himself to be the original to form a sort of Double-Decker Taco of mind-control and body horror.

Realizing the truth, the clone Megatron—who was barely clinging to sanity—chose to take his own life "rather than let Straxus win". {{storylink|Two Megatrons!}}
===Ask Vector Prime===
Though in some realities Archforce would commit suicide, in others such as [[Primax 895.0 Gamma]] he'd become his ''own'' Decepticon and a threat to both [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] alike! {{storylink|Ask Vector Prime#Facebook|Ask Vector Prime, 2015/08/10}}
==Notes==
*Like his wavemate [[Sureshot (G2)|Sureshot]], Archforce is a curiosity. Presumably [[Hasbro]]'s European offices didn't want as many [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys|Optimus Prime]] and [[Megatron (G1)/toys|Megatron]] toys on the shelves as the North American branch did, so they renamed the Hero toys of the two characters and altered any decals that bore their original names. Their bios were also reworded, but the new, briefer descriptions could easily apply to Optimus and Megatron anyway. They lack [[Tech Spec]] ratings, so it's unknown if they were intended to inherit the "10" rank as well.
*Archforce had absolutely no fiction appearances until "Ask Vector Prime" retconned him into being one and the same as Marvel's "hapless trooper" in 2015.
**Technically, everything described on [[Marvel Comics continuity]] [[Megatron (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Megatron]]'s page from "[[Ancient Relics!]]" through "[[The Fall and Rise of the Decepticon Empire.]]" actually happened to Archforce. Yes, that does seem to imply that Marvel UK's [[Galvatron (G1)#Marvel Comics continuity|Galvatron]] was created from Archforce instead of Megatron.
**Several troopers sharing the same general design as Archforce's original pre-Megatron body, all displaying slight differences, appear at [[Decepticon fuel store|transference station two]] in "[[Resurrection!]]" around the time Straxus was implementing [[Project Re-Birth]]. It is ''highly unlikely'' that Archforce was among them; Straxus's plans were already well underway by that point. These troopers have the same yellow-red-and-white color scheme used by [[Darkmount (Cybertron)|Darkmount]] technicians.
Skip was amongst the Deceptions that escaped from [[Garrus-9]] in the company of [[Shockwave (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Shockwave]]. Like the rest of Shockwave's companions, he was on [[The List]], and had been intended to be handed over to the [[Decepticon Justice Division]] in exchange for the former Senator being allowed to go free, a deal [[Tarn (DJD)|Tarn]] rejected. {{storylink|The Ties That Bind}} Following the end of the Great War, he was under Deathsaurus' command when Deathsaurus allied with Tarn and the DJD to kill [[Megatron (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Megatron]] on [[Necroworld]]. {{storylink|The Permanent Revolution}} He was one of many Decepticons who were killed during the battle. {{storylink|The Dying of the Light Part 5: Rage, Rage|Rage, Rage}}

Later [[Hot Rod (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Rodimus]] presented Skip's corpse as a means of getting the stranded ''[[Lost Light]]'' crew off of Necroworld, as Skip's [[alternate mode]] was a spaceship, and recent events in the [[Functionist Universe]] had demonstrated that the use of [[Size changing|forced mass displacement]] would allow him to be made large enough to ferry most of the crew. When Rodimus asked for guesses as to what Skip turned into [[Swerve (G1)|Swerve]] suggested that he turned into a ("purple, because Decepticon") wormhole, because suggesting he turned into a [[W:Skip (container)|skip]] would be beneath even ''Swerve's'' sense of humor.
After being enlarged and manually transformed into his ship-form, the Autobots departed Necroworld aboard Skip. {{storylink|After Megatron (A Dissolution Epilogue)|After Megatron}} Even mass-displaced, they found his alt mode's confines quite cramped, all the more so when the mass displacement started wearing ''off''. {{storylink|Sardines}}
