I got the "32kb" warning when fixing a typo on Hot Rod's page. The actual stated size is 45kb. I suggest it's time to split up the article? The toys section is long, but I don't know that it's long enough to be enough. ==Alternate futures==

This seemed as good a place as any to ask: is there a better way of dealing with the "Movie Future" stories for Marvel Comics? Currently, any reference to those stories tends to be squeezed in after Generation 1 continuity, but that really offsets the flow of the article, especially for Hot Rod. At one point, his G1 article shifts into italics for an excessive period of time, then the G2 section basically picks up saying, "Ignoring all that, where we last left Hot Rod on Klo 11 paragraphs ago..." What about moving "Movie Future" stories into their own heading, and putting it linearly in the timeline, so just before the Classics heading, if any? Is there a good name for a separate heading? "Movie Future" seems 4th wall-y, and I'm not sure if Earth-120185 covers the alternate alternate timelines from AoE and RoD.

Also, as a sidenote, is the Marvel Comics adaptation of the TFTM considered the canon version of the Unicron events in the UK Movie Future, or does the UK Movie Future just involve something "like" the movie? --[[User:Xaaron|Xaaron]] 19:29, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Hot Rod's interference gave Megatron the opening, but Hot Rod was legitimately trying to help. Galvatron stole the Matrix. Hot Rod recovered it. The Matrix then CHOSE him as the new leader, a development which was foreshadowed earlier in the movie. Finally, he didn't attempt to kill himself he initiated a vision quest. So I'm somewhat at a loss as how to deal with some of the UK materials. Clearly some parts of "Aspects of Evil" aren't future timelines... in fact, some of them are very strictly alternate events that contradict the main continuity, such as the alternate Decepticon Civil War 2. But these stories are intimately interwoven with stuff that would belong in the "Marvel UK future" stuff. :Yeah, I went through the same issue when I was filling out those sections. From what I could tell, the earliest events connected to the UK Future were AoE Megatron and Scorponok, set in 1990 and 1991 respectively. Those were flashbacks remembered by 2356 Rodimus, who is the same Rodimus who returned from the ''Time Wars'', according to AoE Galvatron, making them contiguous with all prior TFUK Future stories. Since those events don't coincide with what happened in the Marvel US/UK Present in 1990-91, the "Marvel UK Future Timeline" must be an alternate future that split off from the comic's present sometime prior to 1990 (I'd say Time Wars in 1989 is a pretty good spot to point to for the split).
:So I'd say all the AoE stuff IS in continuity with the "Marvel UK Future Timeline"; they're the earliest shown events in the timeline after it became incompatible with the main comic's present. That's not really true you know, Ultra Magnus was commander between the two Primes (at least in those continuities I'm familiar with). Just as Bill Clinton did not "immediately succeed" Ronald Reagan as US president, so Rodimus did not immediately succeed Optimus as Autobot commander. Unfortunately I'm not sure how to rephrase it to keep the idea on the page without being factually incorrect. I'm pretty sure that Rodimus assigned leadership to someone else after season 4 didn't he? wasn't it Cereboros? I'm pretty sure transformers continued under headmasters and some other Japanese titles for some time where other transformers (I think star sabre?) were appointed leader of the autobots. Energon cubes have proven able to transform a vast array of resources into energon, including electricity, magma, oil and steam. Energon Cubes were available with Takara's "TF Collection" reissue of the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]], and the set's [[redeco]], the Collector's Edition [[Insecticon (G1)|Insectron Clone Army]] ([[Shothole]], [[Salvo]] and [[Zaptrap]]) box set released in Japan in 2004.

There were also "energon cube" accessories available with the fast-food kids meal premiums in European McDonald's restaurants. These cubes were little more than a cheap, battery powered gimmick (the battery couldn't be replaced; the triangle-headed screws used by McDonald's are notoriously impossible to remove) that would make sound or light the toy up. The cubes were interchangeable, but not all of them were "compatible", so to speak—Unicron's light-up feature didn't work on the more opaque plastic of the other toys.

==Merchandise==
Released along side the Movie Preview protoform figures, Energon now takes on the delicious form of candy! Held inside clear, plastic containers, the "energon" inside is more or less flavorless balls of condensed sugar with articial colors. The cubes are held together by stickers, depicting scenes from Generation 1. The larger cube, made of 8 smaller ones, can be open and folded, in one direction, until it returns to its original position.

Out of the eight cubes, only two have candy in them. Most of the art on the cube is taken from Dreamwave art by [[Pat Lee|Superstar Funana]], with the exception of two parts that feature art by [[Don Figueroa]].
